Remote Server Not Accessible - Remote Procedure Call Failed

Q: Remote Server Not Accessible - Remote Procedure Call Failed

Wondering if someone can help me out with this. I have my Windows 7 Enterprise 64 SP1 box on a domain. Our corporate office setup a 2008 R2 SP1 print server and created a few queues on it. When I try to go to start and then type in the
\\servername I get
\\servername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The remote procedure call failed. When I try to access the same server
from an XP SP3 machine it opens up fine using my same credentials. I have also tried this from another user's machine who has 7 Enterprise x64, whose machine was built differently than mine and I can get to it fine from that system too. Any ideas what
I am missing here? We run McAfee here and I've tried stopping all the services, and played around with a bunch of other things too, so far to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Remote Server Not Accessible - Remote Procedure Call Failed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Remote Server Not Accessible - Remote Procedure Call Failed

I can't think of any off hand that would restrict just one resource - that's not to say there aren't though. Here's what you can do to check the Services:
Note that you must be logged in as a Domain Admin or have Local Admin privileges on the machines.
Start up two instances of services.msc.
On one of them connect to one of the Windows 7 machines that is working properly. The other leave connected locally.
Now go down the list and make sure the services on your machine match the services on the working machine. If they don't, change them so that they do. Pay particular attention to the Server and Workstation services. Also the Remote Procedure
Call and RPC Endpoint Mapper services.

When MS pushed an update during Aug. 2016 I started getting the error message "The Remote Procedure Call Failed" whenever I tried to open a jpeg. I resolved the issue by restoring to an earlier date. In Oct MS pushed their anniversary update creating the same issue: "The Remote Procedure Call Failed". This time the update prevented a system rollback to an earlier date. I have searched all over the internet looking for help but no luck. The only dubious solution is the standard MS sledgehammer approach of deleting just about everything then reinstall everything. I don't have the skill or the time. Does anyone have an answer to this ongoing "The Remote Procedure Call Failed" problem? There seems to be a large number of users with the same issue. Appreciate any help.

A couple weeks ago I was having some troubles with my Microsoft Word. I reloaded Office 2000 and it didn't help. So, at the suggestion of someone I downloaded Microsoft Service Pack #3 from the Microsoft Update web site. I think I had SP 1 & 2 already loaded. I can't remember. But it did an automatic scan of my computer and 1 & 2 didn't come up as needed . . . so I figured they must be on there.

Anyway, ever since I did this my scanner (cheapo "Vissioneer") won't work!!! When I try to use it a message comes up "Remote Procedure Call Failed". The scanner seemed to scan and preview but nothing would come up on my monitor after it would scan. I have put messages out on every board I could find on the Internet. (I just found this one today). Mostly I got two answers - uninstall Service Pack 3 or buy a new scanner.

I tried to uninstall Service Pack 3 but couldn't figure out how. It did not show up on my Uninstall Software/Programs list. So I bought a new scanner. I hooked it all up and POOF! "Remote Procedure Call Failed"!!!!! One person did tell me that this was an operating system error not a hardware error. But no one has yet to tell me what "remote procedure call" is!

The one other thing I have tried was to reinstall Windows 2000 over my present installation to see if it would automatically fix some internal problem. Well, it started to load - then stopped. It said it couldn't find some file (ca... Read more

I have had this laptop for just a week. Yesterday I started to encounter a problem whereby when I attempted to open a photograph through the Photo application I received a blank screen with a dialogue stating "The remote procedure call failed". Furthermore when I attempted to access many other applications .E.G. Calculator, Camera, Maps, People Skype, to name a few,  a screen would flash and that would be it. When I encountered this I contacted HP support and they logged into my laptop and the solution was to create a new id. That might have been satisfactory as a one-off but now it has happened to two other ids on the laptop.I have installed no other software on the laptop other than what came with it. To say I am fed up with this would be an understatement. As I said I have only had the laptop a week. Can anybody offer a solution for this problem before I send the laptop back to HP to restore and sort out. Perhaps you can understand my utter frustration. I would greatly appreciate any assistance and advice.

Downloaded Windows 10 Pro, it was fairly clean but now I get 'The remote procedure call failed' when I try to access 'Control Panel, File Explorer, Power Options & Search the web & windows' etc. I have tried a few fixes from the Web without luck so decided to do a reinstall, however when asked 'Choose what to keep' I don't have the option to 'keep personal files & Window settings' the reason given that I'm trying to use a different language to the one I am currently using. I've tried changing language to USA & tried UK English - same message.
Any ideas why this is or how to cure the remote procedure problem would be appreciated.

In another thread in the Other Software Forum I talk about a problem I'm having trying to install an older version of MusicMatchJukeBox (v7.5).
(I had this version for a long time and want to try using it again).

After the installation by InstallShield, at the point the install is just about complete, I get an error message popup:

"The Remote Procedure Call Failed"

at this point the install freezes, requiring me to close the installation using the Task Manager.

Any ideas?

A:Remote Procedure Call Failed - error

It could be that the install program is trying to connect to the remote computer and there is nothing there for it to connect to seeing as this is an older version of the software the music match might have disabled their end. Have you tried downloading and installing a newer version?

hi there A few days ago, I lost access to Windows Explorer, with the message "26ee0668-a00a-44d7-9371-beb064c98683 remote procedure call failed and did not execute." I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on a Lenovo X200. It's has some network programs from work (eg Sophos) that periodically conflict with my ability to work at home, off the network, but when that happens the tech guys at work make some changes and nothing was wrong until a few days ago. I haven't downloaded any programs recently. The tech guy this morning thought it could be malware, so I tried to download malwarebytes...but it didn't and when I tried to access control panel, I get the same error message as above. Sometimes the network forces an update that conflicts, but they don't think that's it. I am an administrator on my computer, but the network won't let me do some things (like system restore or automatic updates). If it's a network conflict, they can help me, but if it's not, I'm on my own.

any ideas?

omg, I couldn't imagine this could be fixed with a reboot, but it was. Sorry. Please close this thread. If it happens again when I'm once again on the network, I'll know that is what is causing the problem. Thanks.

I have previously posted with a problem that was probably linked to this, wherein my 'windows explorer' keeps crashing. I sort of just lived with the problem rather than sorting it out in the end. This is now a step-up though!

Any help would be much appreciated, you guys are awesome for all of this!

The issue is mostly caused by incorrect or missing registry. Please ensure you have the following registry first.

After checking that, please download SetACL.exe from

I have a big problem that I haven't been able to fix and I need some help. I visited the windows update site as I do once a week and this time I recieved a message "The page you requested cannot be displayed". I checked the knowledge base and found there was no language listed in Internet tools. I set it to english language and was then able to scan for updates and lo and behold every critical update and SP1a popped up eventhough they are already installed. And of course they won't install...nothing will install, I can't even install any software from my cd rom. I now get a remote procedure call failed error 1068 everytime I try to install anything. The service will not start no matter what. I searched this forum and one user fixed this by doing a repair install. I tried this and the problem persists. I checked my Add/Remove programs list and all service packs and hotfixes have been removed. They were still there before the repair install. I went back to windows update and of course they still will not install. I've spent nine hours on this already. Any suggestions? I sure don't want to format and reinstall.

Check Windows for corruption. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdetails.txt file if errors occur.

I've been customising the default user profile in Audit Mode ready to sysprep a clean install of Win7 Pro x64 on a 250GB SSD (C: ) and a 1TB HDD (D: ) using Kari's guide. However, I've run into some apparently unrelated problems.

1. First of all, Macrium was hanging during installation. It did not move for about 20-30minutes, and in Task Manager it appeared that none of the Macrium related processes seemed to be doing anything. I ended the task. It appeared to install successfully, however, despite my having apparently end tasked it before completion. A few minutes after ending the task the box popped up to 'finish' installation, and I was able to open Macrium and everything looked like it was installed successfully. So I ignored this for now

2. I right clicked on desktop and went to 'personalise' and changed the background to one of the preset groups. I clicked on the leftmost of the four boxes at the bottom which said 'slide show' (I was curious what it was), and the window that it opened got stuck on 'loading'. I ended task and windows restarted explorer and checked for solutions of which it found none. After this, whenever I try to open control panel and get "::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683} The remote procedure call failed and did not execute", I click 'okay' and then the next box says "explorer.exe" instead of the long number string, and also has the same error message. These crashes were caused by memory corruption.
Run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Windows 7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"

Hi Everyone
On my Windows XP SP2 and Windows 7 (so the latest version of Windows) computers, I am trying to run desktop software which freezes in the meantime of gathering datas from some server or some other online location. Since it freezes I have to close it inside the taskbar but after it is closed, I get the error which is mentoined in the Topic Title of this message. I already made sure about Firewall and its no problem in that because I don't even have it (just disabled windows one). I also made sure that I don't have a problem with memory (cpu / rams). While my research I saw that the problem might be in activex controls because i didn't know how to check if I have them. So I decided to just download activex and i downloaded it from:

I noticed (don't know if this is true or not) that many programs have their own activex controls. I coudln't find activex for the software which produces an error so I just downloaded some random activex controls: in this case the browser's one which im using - firefox but the software is NOT being runned through firefox.
Towards fixing the issue mentoined in the title, I think its the best to be focused on activex first because I have instinct activex is still the reason. I might not installed correct ones, they might not work or software requires other/additional ones. Is there any way to check this?
Perhaps any other way (instea... Read more

Hi everyone, today I checked processes in my 2 computers (windows 8.1) and I noticed this process " svchost.exe Service Host: Remote Procedure Call"
what is it?

A:What is remote procedure call?

Hi again puravida  In computer science, a remote procedure call (RPC) is an inter-process communication that allows a computer program to cause a subroutine or procedure to execute in another address space (commonly on another computer on a shared network) without the programmer explicitly coding the details for this remote interaction.[1] That is, the programmer writes essentially the same code whether the subroutine is local to the executing program, or remote. When the software in question uses object-oriented principles, RPC is called remote invocation or remote method invocation (RMI).Many different (often incompatible) technologies have been used to implement the concept.Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_procedure_callMicrosoft Remote Procedure Call (RPC) defines a powerful technology for creating distributed client/server programs. The RPC run-time stubs and libraries manage most of the processes relating to network protocols and communication. This enables you to focus on the details of the application rather than the details of the network.Source: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa378651%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

Help please - My kids pc is running very very slow. It seemed to be infected with a virus. We have AVG installed and it shows up that we have a number of different viruses but doesn't seem to be able to get rid of them. I have tried other products on 30 day trials PC Cillen, a2, and ad-aware some with greater succes than others BUT when I run ad-aware after a few minutes it comes up with the "Remote Procedure Call" - I have vague recollections about this happening during the BugBear virus - I have down loaded the fix from symantic but it says that there is nothing wrong AAArgh....

So If I dont run ad-aware the computer doesn't crash but just runs very slowly - everything takes an age to open or save. I am ready to nuke it and start again - any help that anybody can give would be gratefully appreciated.

I was on the phone with Kodak for about 2 hours since my wireless printer will not work but everyone else on the network can still access it.

Anyway he said the reason i cannot connect is because my RPC is greyed out and un able to be restarted. How can I change this service so that i can make try to get my self connected to my printer

A:Remote Procedure Call

Go to your Control Panel and open Administrative Tools
Double-click on Services and scroll down

The first RPC is set to Automatic
The second one is set to Manual

For Vista you right-click on the service and select Properties to make changes

I believe it's the same for XP
I don't remember and my XP box is down

A:remote procedure call (RPC)

This is ano old windows exploit worm.

If you have an firewall, install it.
Then go to Start> Programs> Update Windows and update the patches relating to the above error first.

Hope that helps. There are direct patch fixers but if you have a firewall (Norton etc) then you may as well use windows updates.

Hey all, I just wanted to know what this means. I get an error message saying: "System Shutdown. This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM. Time before shutdown: 00:01:00 Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call {RPC} service terminated unexpectedly." Is this the bug that has been going arround? I just thought it shut the computer down with no message. Thanks.

My computer was recently infected with something that opens a window for a RPC (remote procedure call) with a timer of 60 seconds. This will pop up usually after getting into windows, after 60 seconds my computer shutsdown. For the momment I use the command "shutdown -a" to abort this countdown. Created desktop shortcut for convenience.

Many functions on my computer do not work. I noticed the number of processes are signifcantly reduced, however sometimes I have upto 5-6 svchost.exe running. One or more of these processes constantly crashes giving me application errors. Generally shortly after the RPC will begin. I've run msconfig, most of the services have been stopped.

-Im unable to connect to the internet or any network. (Infact nothing is listed in network connections, trying to create a new one does nothing)
-Im unable to run my virus protection
-Unable to paste files, folders, etc
-Ocasional blue screen of death relating to 'File System'
-Most programs crash randomly
+many many more odd things

Any help would be appreciated. I have tried searching these forums and google, but I dont know what Im searching for.
