Thinkpad T530 not starting in regular mode

Q: Thinkpad T530 not starting in regular mode

Hi, my T530 has recently starting giving me trouble rebooting in regular mode. Whereas I can reboot in safe mode, I do not even reach the initial login screen when I attempt to start-up regularly. All I get is a black screen with a visible cursor. Any ideas where this is coming from and what problems I have?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Most likely a bad driver since in Safe Mode windows uses generic drivers.   My guess would be the video driver, so while in Safe Mode, use device manager to uninstall the existing video driver and start clean. Right click on Start and select Device Manager or Start >> Run and type: devmgmt.msc  and press EnterClick on Display Adapters to openRight Click on the Intel HD Graphics and select Uninstall,  making sure to check the box to "Delete the driver software for this device".RebootIf it was the video driver, then Windows should boot normally using a generic driver, and then download and install a new driver via Windows Update. Since it just started, running a disk check (chkdsk) would be a good idea too.Right Click on Start and select Command Prompt (Admin) and press EnterIn the Command Prompt (Admin) window, type:   chkdsk C: /f   and press EnterPress Y to accept scheduling scan for next bootReboot and it will run at startupGood Luck,

You are getting this message?
Outlook failed to start correctly last time. Starting Outlook in safe mode will help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully start the program. Some functionality may be disabled in this mode.

Do you want to start Outlook in safe mode?

If so, what happens when you say No?

Also, what version of Outlook?

I have a problem with my ThinkPad T530 model 2429NL6, on which Win 10 is running.I purchased a data SIM card and inserted it into the SIM card slot, but I can't connect to the data network.I can't understand if the modem is missing, if the modem is present but the driver is missing, or if it's a problem installing the network in Win 10.How can I move around?(I ask for a simple language in the answer, as I am an inexperienced user)Thanks

Greetings - I have a Lenovo T530 Laptop - Windows 10 installed. Each time I attempt to shut down the laptop, the laptop automatically restarts itself. I replaced that power jack because the power button also wasn't working either. I had this same problem regardless of whether Windows 7 or 10 was on it. I have 10 and loaded most Lenovo Drivers, including any with management, chipset. Also, the power options are reset to default - that didn't make any difference either. According to the diagnostics tests, there are no hardware issues. It is only happening on this particular T530 - not have been able to replicate the same problem on others. Any ideas?? Thank you in advance!

Hello all, I have a real difficulty choosing between these two W520 and T530.  Both are used and prices close.  The main differences are listed as below: (1) CPUW520  i7-2720QMT530  i5-3320M(2) Graphics and displayW520  Nvidia graphics card (Quadro 2000) with FHDT530 Intel 4000 with 1600x900 (3) PriceW520 is $60 more than T530. I am planning to use the laptop mostly for word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint presentation in classroom, HD video watching, no video editing.  Any advice or helpful information will be appreciated.

A:Which one to choose - ThinkPad W520 or T530?

For those tasks you wouldn't need a Core i7 or discrete graphics, save yourself some money and go for the T530.The only disadvantage would be 1600x900 instead of 1920x1080, but it would be hard to see the difference.

Ok, so here's a long story. Purchased a Thinkpad T530 5 years ago. Configured it with two drives that came from Lenovo (one in main HDD bay, another one in Ultrabay - one was IIRC Hitachi and the other one Toshiba, can't remember which was installed in which bay). OS was Windows 8 Home (installed on HDD in main bay) which I sported for a only few weeks since I was confronted with Ultrabay HDD constantly (every 5-10 minutes) parking its head (clicking noise). Being unable to successfully resolve the issue I decided to ditch Windows 8 and install Windows XP 32-bit (also on the main bay HDD). Problem? Gone. In the meantime, I decided to sport a dual-boot system and installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)  on the Ultrabay HDD (in the meantime I replaced the Ultrabay HDD that came from Lenovo with a WD 7500BPKT drive). Problem? None whatsoever, probably because the HDD was constantly in use since it had a OS (which became my main OS) installed on it. Fast forward to a few days ago. Bought a Crucial MX300 2TB 2.5'' SSD and installed it into the main HDD bay. Purchased a SAMSUNG 850 EVO mSATA SSD and installed it into the mPCIE slot. Left the WD 7500BPKT HDD in Ultrabay. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) onto Samsung mSATA SSD and? Problem with Ultrabay HDD constantly (not as frequently as other people using AHCI+Windows+Intel Rapid Storage drivers were reporting though - once every 5-10 minutes in my case vs once every minute or so as reported by other users) parkin... I've been trying to find a solution for two full dsays now.My problem:Yesterday morning my t530 windows 10 (upgrade from 8.1) did not open normally. Slow booting and once in Windows, no more audio or wifi or access to startup menu. I did have two upgrades this week, one from Windows 10 and another for the new Bitdefender 2017 upgrade which I accepted. I don't know for sure if there is a link but I suspect there is. I have intented doing a refresh, reset from the diagnostic page and form the prompt page a scan and scannow but to no avail. I downloaded on a bootable USB flash drive rufus windows 10. I have disables secure boot and enabled legacy. When I do an F12 I see the nane of my USB HDD in the list, but when i press enter it just goes back to the top the Boot Menu screen to Windows Boot manager. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't use rufus.  I suggest making the USB stick in UEFI mode from a computer running with a UEFI boot using the MS media creation tool:

Hi Folks, I got my thinkpad T530 last week. I tested the skype after opening the box and it works. Then I took off the original 320G HDD and put my 830 SSD on it, reinstalled the win8 and blah blah blah.Just last night when I tried to chat with my parents on skype i found out the the camera is dead. I tried by doing so:1) according to others threads I uninstall most of the unnecessary drivers;2) reinstall the camera driver;3) deleted the ricoh media driver;4) updated the BIOS;5) tired to locate someone mentioned, the "privacy" problem. But the video/camera option is not even showing up by Fn+F6;6) downloaded and installed the thirdparty AMCAM and it says no camera device can be found.  Please let me know if there is anything else i can do. Thank you ,

Good day The T530 will not accept a replacement non-genuine Lenovo battery, I am aware of this. However, I have acquired a 2nd-hand extended battery that IS a genuine Lenovo battery, and when my T530 boots up, it still complains that the battery is not authorised and will not charge. Sure enough, it does not charge. Does anyone know why this would be? The battery is a 8.4 Ah, 94Wh. FRU 42T4969 ASM 42T4802, registered Lenovo product. Many thanks, Ian

Hey,I've recently installed windows 7 on my t530 because in win10 I couldn't use fingerprint reader cz there's no suitable driver available. So back on windows 7 I installed all the latest drivers from lenovo support site. Fingerprint Reader works perfectly! Now I got like 180 Updates installed. After reboot my fingerprint reader didn't work anymore. I can open the fingerprint tool but the green led is not glowing anymore.in device manager everything is ok. latest driver installed, detected as biometric device.  also it's listed in system settings.I checked my BIOS settings and clicked on "reset fingerprint data" and also disabled the device and enabled it back.nothing seems to work.. is there any solution? Maybe windows blocked the driver or something i don't know. I've deinstalled the fingerprint software AND the driver in device manager. reboot, and installed all again. nothing.. how can this be?

I had been having a problem with my laptop that makes the screen reddish for almost a year. I tried everything - creating, setting, deleting Windows color profiles, updating drivers, disabling drivers... I got a bit desperate and started disabling services and processes until I disabled the following process:...and my screen was suddenly OK. Notice how the screenshot is also reddish. This again is due to that little **bleep**. I don't know what it does but it even manages to crap all over screenshots, not just the display. After I found that this caused the trouble, I deleted all of it at this location:C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\ImController\PluginHost Now everything works fine and I can see white on my screen for the first time in a year.

Hello,I will write first what my goal is. I would like to have USB 3.0 port on the ExpressCard card (I can buy a new one recommended), but it should be able to supply power, feven only for a small pendrive, a smartphone, although my first goal was to connect at least one external USB drive.I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T530 laptop.I really need extra USB ports in it.So I bought one ExpressCard/34 card first, which adds 2 USB3.0 ports and has the option of additional power supply. This is a Manhattan card.Link:https://manhattanproducts.eu/manhattan-en-superspeed-usb-expresscard34-150583.htmlI installed the NEC uPD720200 driver which was on attached CD.Initially, I was hoping to even connect 2 external USB drives. The disk normally works on other USB ports. With a pendrive only 1GB, it was the same. The smastphone also only plugs in so that it only powers it, but it does not shot its disk or it shows it, but it is unavailable to enter it.So I bought another ExpresCard card with 2 USB3.0, this time from 4World company. It also has the possibility of power supply (cable included).Link:https://ikupiec.pl/Product/Index?Id=6748&path=trueI uninstalled that NEC driver uPD720200 from Manhattan and I tried to install the NEC driver uPD720202 from the 4World motherboard, but I couldn't because there was a message... I have this problem with my laptop - sometimes I cannot login - after choosing the user the screen freezes or after logging in it works only for a few minutes in regular mode (I can do things over those minutes like open firefox, but I cannot open folders, sometimes I can open the task manager or even some programs) but then it freezes and I have to shutdown the computer manually by pushing the power button. When I tried pushing crtl+alt+del I got a message "The logon process was unable to display security and logon options when ctrl+alt+delete was pressed. If the operatin system does not respond, press esc or restart the computer by using the power switch". I don't know if this helps, but I try to add as much as I can. Sorry it it's not relevant - my knowledge about computers and IT is minimal.
The computer runs fine in safe mode.
So I tried system restore to a week before when the computer was still fine and it didn't work. So I reinstalled a graphics driver (Intel HD Graphics Driver) as I found on the internet that similar problems got fixed by reinstalled videocard drivers. And it worked, everything started to run smoothly again in the regular mode. As normally I allowed windows updates and after restarting my computer, the problems came back.
I assumed that the problem was the updates so I uninstalled most of them (KB2930275; KB2923961; KB2925418; KB2929755; KB2929733 and KB2918077) but the problem was still there and I was unable to unin... Read more

Hi all!

Today I started up my computer (an XP machine running SP3) and after it went through the BIOS, it showed the Windows startup screen (the Windows logo with the blue progress bar), but when that was done, it went to a black screen and won't do anything else.

I restarted and tried a few different things; Start Windows Normally, and Last Known Good Configuration both got me the same black screen.

CheckDisk ran, and it made it to the end, but froze when it said "please wait while your computer reboots" ... after waiting more than 10 minutes, i hit reset and tried to reboot it myself. It did the same Bios-Windows-blackscreen thing as before.

I also tried booting into Safe Mode, which DID work, and when I got in there I tried to do a System Restore (two, actually... for two previous dates) but both did nothing to resolve the problem. I tried simply copying my "important" files to my external HD (which it sees), but it won't copy in Safe Mode

When loading in Safe Mode, the driver list pauses and says "press esc to cancel loading of SPTD.sys" but I've tried it both ways and it doesn't make a difference that I can see.

I tried using my XP CD to boot from, which takes me into the Recovery Console, and I chose to hit "R" to repair, but when it asks me what drive I want to login to (which is C:) I don't really know what to do from there. I haven't booted from a CD before, so I assumed it would run a "Repair Wizard&... Read more

Hi, I'm having some problems fixing my bleeping computer (Windows 10 desktop computer, to be specific) and could use some assistance.
On Friday 15 December 2017, my computer ran fine when I woke up and used it for a few minutes in the morning. Before that date, I had very few problems with my computer running; the biggest issue was some freezing occurring while playing games demanding on processing power such as Civilization 5. However, I don't believe that is related to my current issue, as I last played it on Sunday 26 November 2017, and I had no issues with it on that day.
When I returned home later that day (15 December), I found my computer stuck on a blue screen. I'm not sure quite what happened, as my computer was not used during the day at all. I restarted several times, but I was not able to even make it to the user login screen before getting a blue screen. I've received error code 0xc0000142 for every blue screen.
Startup repair did nothing to resolve the situation. I am still able to run my computer in safe mode with networking and that's how I'm writing this post. For the past two weeks, I've been using safe mode to use my computer. I've looked online for solutions, but haven't gotten much. I've had some problems in safe mode with random freezes, but at least the computer runs most of the time, although with limited functionality.
My research led me to trying Windows + R and opening msconfig.exe and disabling all services that were not... Read more

A:BSOD - Computer runs in safe mode, not regular mode

If you work OK in Safe Mode - but not in normal mode, it's most likely a software problem.
Hardware problems are possible, but nowhere near as likely as a software problem.
First thing I'd suggest is trying a clean boot.  It's similar to Safe Mode - but works in normal mode by disabling stuff.
It's also similar to disabling the services - but you'll disable more when doing a clean boot.
If a clean boot fixes the problem - then the problem was caused by one (or more) of the things you disabled for the clean boot.
Then it's just a matter of re-enabling things one at a time until you find the problem.
Perform a Clean Boot:  http://www.thewindowsclub.com/what-is-clean-boot-state-in-windows
If that stops the problem, then re-enable things a few at a time until you figure out what's causing it.
Then uninstall the problem program (from Start...Settings...Apps...Apps & Features - if you don't find it there, check the right sidebar for Programs and Features and see if you can remove it from there).
Backup your stuff now.  There's no telling exactly what the problem is - so a backup is the best way to be prepared in case the system dies on you suddenly.
If this doesn't work, then post back and we'll ask for some reports to try and figure out what's going on.
Good luck!

This is a follow up to

SweetTech just helped me clear out some malware and referred me to this forum when I ran into some interesting issues with Safe Mode:

1. I could not log into safe mode as administrator, it stalled at "getting personal settings". I am able to log on with as my regular user though.

2. In Safe Mode my C drive has 2 Gigs more of free space than in regular mode (is that normal? I though what's on the drive is on the drive no matter what mode I use...)

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop running WinXP SP3.

Many thanks for your input and advice!

Just a general question:1. When doing a routine scan for viruses and malware, etc. (and just generally speaking), is it better to scan in safe mode or regular mode? 2. If you scan in safe mode, is there anything that wouldn't show up (that you could potentially miss) that *would* show up in regular mode? 3. Or is safe mode just better all around, and everything is covered (plus more) that you'd find with scanning in regular mode?(I'm referring to scanning with AVG A/V, AVG Anti-Spyware, SpyBot (old version), and Ad-Aware SE.)Thanks!

A:Better To Scan In Safe Mode Or Regular Mode For Virus/malware?

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode designed to start Windows with minimal drivers and running processes to diagnose problems with your computer. This means some of the programs that normally run when Windows starts will not run.The Windows operating system protects files when they are being accessed by an application or a program. Malware writers create programs that can insert itself and hide in these protected areas when the files are being used. Using "Safe Mode" reduces the number of modules requesting files to only the essentials to make your computer functional. This in turn reduces the number of hiding places for malware, making it easier to find and delete the offending files. Using your anti-virus and anti-malware tools, in "Safe Mode" also speeds up the scanning process. Read "Beginners Guides: Windows XP Safe Mode Explained" and "What is 'Safe Mode' used for and why?"

Hi. I can't get the webcam to work. I got this laptop around mid June of this year. Tried to use the webcam for the first time today, Nothing. My device manager doesn't even list a camera. I tried to intall the driver (twice) to see if that would help, but as far as I can see, it's had exactly 0 effect. I downloaded the lenovo settings app, and it's not there, either. At least, I see no setting options for it. But this model of laptop supposedly has a webcam built in, and my model looks pretty much exactly like the others I see on google images, except for a circly light thing in the strip where the camera is supposed to be. I have no idea what the hardware/wiring should even look like so I can't help there. I've been at this for hours. At this point I would just buy a webcam off Amazon or something if I could be sure that the laptop would actually register it.

I started getting BSOD's right after login after boot up. I get a number of different ones and occasionally some repeat. When I come up in safe mode (with and without networking) I can function as long as I don't do too much. I've drive tested my system drive and I also did a memory test. I've also not made any changes recently. If I do too much it will BSOD though. When I start copying files off my system drive to my storage array, I BSOD if I'm doing more than a couple gigs.

I can't seem to get a consistent BSOD. I've listed most of the ones below, I haven't caugh them all.

Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.

If the crashes continue to occur after doing these, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode.... Read more

My computer is a HP Probook 4710s running windows xp professional w/ SP3
When I started it up it was very slow, did not make the chiming welcome sound and none of the icons or taskbar came up.
I hit ctrl+alt+del and explorer.exe was there but clearly not doing anything.  Only 21 total processes were running.  I rebooted in safemode and all of my icons appeared.  I tried a system restore but it did not work.  I can reboot in safemode with networking but the following error message appears.  "Runtime Error!  Program  c:\ProgramFiles\Hewlett-Packard\IAM\Bin\AsGHost.exe    This application has requested to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for further infomation."  I had contacted microsoft's tech support who thought the problem might be a corrupted user profile, so we attempted to create a new one and copy the files over to it, but the copy never worked and would fail part way through saying, "cannot access files" and then stop.  So those profiles were deleted and now I'm back to not being able to boot up with just the plain old default ADMIN user.  I don't want to shut down my computer since I'm worried if I do, it will stop booting up in safe mode too.  It's done that before, it cycles through all the files and then hangs up for about 3 minutes and automatically reboots.  Any suggestions?

# Version of IE (Internet Explorer) - Internet explorer 8
# Operating System - Windows XP service Pack 2
# What you have tried - Calling HP tech support and my ISP(Verizon FiOS) tech support.

# What the problem is - I CANT access websites like google or yahoo or anything with internet explorer even though my ISP is perfectly OK and everything is connected, and it says in network conncections i AM connected to the internet via highspeed LAN/Broadband. I noticed that when i turn my router on and off a message comes up and its says my IP has to be fixed or something. With the FiOS tech support they said i pinged everything fine and that i could go on google and yahoo via the command prompt but for some reason i couldn't in internet explorer. in my internet options i went to connections and i just ticked the auto detect under LAN settings and nothing else.

And also now It says the operation could not be completed due to low memory or harddrive space. I have plenty of both. SAL

I have a Lenovo Type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 docking station with a 90W AC adapter: P/N 75Y5732FRU P/N 75Y5733S/N M3-B9XDV Acccording to the Docks, Port Replicator, Ultrabase - Reference Guide (*) a T530 Quad Core is not supported with the Lenovo Type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 docking station while, according to (*) the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W is supported - though T530 is not mentioned on the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W - Overview and Service Parts page. When comparing the Overview and Service Parts page of both docks: ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 - 90W and ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W it seems the only difference is the AC adapter, number of video ports and an eSATA connector. 1) Is this correct? 2) If so, can a T530 Quad Core be used on a Type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 with a 170W (or 135W) AC adapter (instead of the 90W AC adapter)? 3) As the 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 is supported with a Thinkpad X220, is there any objection against docking using a 170W AC (or 135W) adapter?

We had a power outage recently and even though the backup kicked in, our MS Outlook 07 (running on XP Pro) will only open in Safe Mode with limited features. When I reboot, I get an error message saying Outlook wasn't closed properly. It will not load at all unless I click on the offer to operate in safe mode. How do I get the system to function normally in regular mode with full features again? I'd appreciate any how-to help anyone can provide. THANKS!

A:Outlook 07 Safe Mode vs Regular Mode

Reinstall. It has been too badly damaged. Your settings have been preserved as has your mail, in most cases... but it is still wise to use Outlook recovery software (see www.majorgeeks.com and others) before you perform the reinstall... your files in process at the time of the failure are likely lost.

A:why can i go on the internet in safe mode but not in regular mode?!?!?!?

You might be experiencing a sever infection or a system corruption ( the files that dont run in safe mode but real mode might have been corrupted such as drivers ) but these are all assumptions right now. Please get into safe mode with networking. Click on greyknights link below and follow the instructions for a malware clean-up. Get a hjt log and post it under hjt log help forum. My mother and I share a network, and both own Compaq Presarios from the dark ages . She is running XP and I'm running 98. I caught a virus (pretty sure it's Virtumonde) and I'm taking steps to deal with it. This is not about my problem... unless it's her problem, too.

She recently bought a laptop (which runs Vista) and is networked into the same system. For this laptop, she purchased ESET NOD32 Antivirus4. When she heard about my problem, she thought that it might be a good idea to install this same program to her PC before I reattached to the network to fix my problem. So we did that. Unfortunately, we didn't heed the extremely mild warning that there "may be conflicts" with the McAfee already on her system, and neglected to uninstall it.

As soon as I was finished with the uninstall, I attempted to enter the Add/Remove Programs menu to remove McAfee. It told me to wait while it populated the list, and ten minutes later, I gave up. The computer had frozen, so I did a hard shut down... and have not been able to do anything since!

We can restart it, sure, but it freezes somewhere between the time it launches McAfee and the time it launches Eset - any attempts to do anything either fail or cause the freeze. We of course tried booting in safe mode, but cannot get the options screen (we tried the tapping and holding methods for both F8 and F5).

Incidentally, her computer's symptoms do not resemble mine in the slightest.

So here are my que... Read more

I have problem with sierra wireless MC7710 LTE modem on my T530. This modem should be supported by Tx30 models according to https://support.lenovo.com/sk/en/solutions/ht100300?LinkTrack=Solr but obviously my laptop is not willing to boot with it. I have tried both modem modes QMI/DIP but with no success. Is there anything that Iam doing wrong?
USB IDs are 1199:68A2 for QMI mode (should be supported afaik) and 1199:68A3 for DIP mode (should not be supported afaik), but with no success.
BIOS is updated, altough I found out that there is newer version since last months, should make no difference.

Hello All-

Upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 yesterday and all is well except that "Regular Maintenance" in the Task Scheduler, set for 3:00 A.M. started at 5:30 A.M. Trigger is set for 3:00 A.M. every day, yet "Next Run Time" is 4:30 A.M. There do not appear to be any conflicting tasks, and the clocks are all OK.

Never had a problem with this in 8, and the schedule was great since Windows would do it's maintenance and defrag before my backups are scheduled, starting at 4:00 A.M.

Any suggestions?

A:Regular Maintenance not starting at scheduled trigger

OK- Think I've solved it. Under Regular Maintenance/Properties/Triggers/Edit/Advanced Settings. the box for "Delay task for up to (random delay)" was checked and set to 4 hours. I unchecked it, and now "Next Run Time" is the same as the trigger (scheduled time).

Plain ol' curiosity on my end...what's the oldest ThinkPad folks around here use on "regular" basis...
By "regular" I mean turn on at least a couple of times a week and use for an hour or two...
In my household that's the A31p in my signature which actually never gets turned off...
How about you?

My T22 still is in use as music player and recorder.
While i'm typing in these words, my T22 is capturing "Pink Floyd - The Wall" from my good old vinyl records bought in 1980.
Since i did it with the T22 a couple of years ago the first time, i was too lazy to try it with my Thinkpad 760XD or 770X today
