Preferred Solution: All music pdf word and excel files have prefix 'locked'

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer! I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.
We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.
To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:
*************************************************** In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/491080 <<< CLICK THIS LINK
If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.
***************************************************If you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.A new DDS log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post. Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system. If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you. Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available. Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.
Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.
We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again: Download DDS by sUBs from the following link if you no longer have it available and save it to your destop.DDS.com Download LinkDouble click on the DDS icon, allow it to run. A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running. Notepad will open with the results. Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results. Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop. Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
Information on A/V control can be found HERE.As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

Virus attack? (windows 7)on home desktop and attached portable hard drives. All my video and music files on all drives have been renamed with prefix "locked" and a random extension to all my files so the type is now a different set of random 4 letters for each file. They are therefore unreadable and un uploadable by utorrent

any ideas on how to be
a)make sure my computer is secure (my son ran a clean up - new files are now unaffected it seems)
b)get my files readable?

Will I have to manually change each precious file (if so -how?) my family home movies of the years are all affected! I had them backed up but the mobile hard drive with the backups is affected too.

Recently, I'm having slow file loading while opening ms word files and excel files directly from windows explorer. It takes a minute to load, however it opens immediately if I open .doc files or .xls files directly from their application software. It also take a minute for MS Word and Excel software to shut down.

I have run my antivirus (Symantec) and MBAM but they all show no virus was found. I'm not sure what should I do next, please advice.

The only way I can get any MS office programs to open is to right click and choose the "open with" option. I check the box to Use as default, but they still won't open the next time.
I tried run > winword /r to reset word, but that didn't help either.
All the icons are the same, a little blue chemistry beaker.
In properties, the type of files say they are, "FFV files (docx), FFV files (xlsx), etc".
How do I get these files to open the normal double click way?

A:Excel and Word files will not open in Excel and Word

Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Start > Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair)?

Aside from that if the file types are "FFV files (docx), FFV files (xlsx), etc", that suggests you've installed some other software that has taken over the file associations. In that case, you might consider uninstalling that software; otherwise you'll need to reset the file associations, by right-clicking each Office file-type (docx, xlsx, etc.) and using Open With>Choose default program to re-associate them with the correct Office application.

I have recently installed Windows 8 on a Dell Inspiron 1525, after my hard drive crashed and burned. I re-installed Excel 2007. I have twice since had the program crash, and have the file that was opened "disappear". Actually I found it, but it has "~$" added to the name and it is totally inaccessible: It turned to a faded image, cannot be copied, opened, etc. How can this file be recovered? The Win. 8 is so recent that I haven't backed up this file!

A:Recovering Bad Excel File with ~$ prefix

First try to make a backup copy of this file. Open Excel and make sure Options/Save Auto recovery is on. Then you need to simulate a crash by opening a blank workbook and kill it with task manager. When you reopen excel you should get the 'document recovery pane'(I can't think of how else to open the document recover pane). You may be able to navigate or find the temp file(or what ever its) and recover.

Not using 2007 so I'm guessing here. I give this a 10% chance of success.

When I FTP an updated web page to the host, it can take as long as 24 hours before the new version appears on my computer; I continue to see the old version.

Here's the caveat: if I remove the WWW. from the URL address, then I see the new version; if I put WWW. in, then I see the old version.

I talked to the web hosting company, and they suggested that the problem is with my ISP not refreshing something (I don't remember what it was).

I asked a friend of mine to access the web page using his ISP, which is different from mine, and he is able to see the new page, even with the WWW. prefix.

I've cleared my cache many times, to no avail.

When I contacted my ISP and reported the problem, they said that they would look into it.

Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

Also, as a general piece of information, what is the difference between using WWW. and not using WWW.?

Why would using or not using the WWW. prefix make a difference?

On another forum, I received the following response, and it makes sense:
"Sounds like you are surfing your providers cache. What happens is, they cache the pages, and "refresh" them every once in a while, which, in your case, appears to be 24 hours."

Thanks, Richard

A:FTP'd Files Not Appearing for 24 Hours When Using WWW. Prefix

a couple of things you can do - your ISP's cache refresh isn't one of them

try using cntrl+F5 to force your browser to refresh

(i'm assuming IE)
from the main menu:
internet options
uncheck the proxy, autoconfig etc so you're accessing the 'external' server and not the proxy cache

internet options
temporary internet files, settings (middle of the general window)
check for new versions: every visit

proxies can be good things when they're run well, a 24 hour refresh is ludicrous

Some days ago, I found this convenient trick under Vista:

To rename:

good stuff 01.jpg
good stuff 02.jpg
good stuff 03.jpg

you can open DOS window & go to the directory with those source files & type in:

rename good_stuff_*.jpg "good stuff *.jpg"

This is very useful for me.

However, I don't know how to do it under normal Windows GUI mode.

[email protected]

A:batch rename files with same prefix

There is no really easy way of doing this under normal GUI in explorer.exe. If all you ever want to do is remove the underscores(_) and replace them with spaces( ), then you could write a program or batch script, and add it to right click. All you would need when writing a program is IO and string manipulation, or in a batch script, automated IO and string manipulation.

A:VB script: Rename all files in a folder to a specified prefix

You're not supposed to enter those in the script, but instead set as parameters to the file when you execute it. Example:

use " around the path if it contains spaces, example "c:\some folder"

Open Notepad. Type

Replace the bracket text with whatever goes there, then take out the brackets. Press Enter after each one you need to do. Save it as "mp3rename.bat", remove the quotes. Then doubleclick on it. Yes, that is the only way. Here's help with the syntax.

I have been using Windows 7 for about six months now, and have recently experienced a rather strange event when trying to access my Word and/or Excel documents. When I have opened either of these programs, and clicked on the small yellow file icon at the top to look at the available files, I get the normal list of those files, and can choose which one to open. However, occasionally after clicking the yellow "open" icon, the page is completely blank, that is to say none of my saved files are showing. After a time (usually about five or six minutes), the page loads and I see all these files so that I can then open the required one. If I go to Task Manager, nothing is showing as running, so I am at a loss why this should be. If anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful for their advice. Many thanks.

My problem is that when I link an Excel file with Word, I get a graph with grid lines behind it. How can I get rid of these grid lines? I'm not referring to the grid lines within the graph itself, but the grid lines behind the graph. It looks like a nice graph siting on an Excel spreadsheet with the cells behind it. I've fiddled around with it and gotten the cells to "shrink around it", but you can still see the cells around the edges of the graph.

I'd send the file, but this system wouldn't take a .xls file. If someone wants to look at my problem graph, I'd be happy to email the file.

Hi Everyone,

I'm using MS Office 2003 on a PC, and tried to send Word, Excel & .pdf files to a Mac user. She has Office for Mac 2011 installed on her computer.

She cannot open any of the files. I think she may not have Adobe Reader installed, which explains why the .pdf will not open. So far as the .doc and .xls files ... I'm stumped. Other than recommending that she download Open Office, does anyone have any ideas?

A:Opening MS Excel, MS Word & .pdf files on a Mac

A few suggestions:

Visit this page to see if she can update her Office software.
Also, try the Office Open XML File Format Converter from Apple.
If that fails, and you don't want to use Open Office, you could save Word docs as RTF Rich Text files, and Excel files as CSV, comma seperated value files.

A:All my files are opened as excel instead of word

Well you can Print in the interim. Instead of pushing a file to an application via its File Association, you can always open the Application and then open the document and print it.

So if you try to open a PDF, DOC, DOCx, and others they are all associated to MS Excel ?

Did you Right-Click on a PDF file and choose "Open With" ---> Choose Default Program
And set it back to Adobe Reader ( or whatever PDF viewer you use ) ?

Did you Right-Click on a DOC and DOCx files and choose "Open With" ---> Choose Default Program
And set it back to Microsoft Word ?

Did you go to Control Panel and use the Default Programs applet and then choose "Set your Default Program" and then choose the Program like Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word and have it "Set this program as default" ?

Well, it appears our desktop has contracted something...Microsoft Office 2010 will not open any files as it states they are all corrupt. First, I've done a lot of searching on the internet and notice others are experiencing the same problem. Some of them are stating they get a screen asking for a ransom, apparently the Cryptolocker virus. We are not getting this message.
I've tried repairing files though a lot of different avenues found on the internet, but none have worked.
I thought possibly the files were being corrupted while attempting to open them, so I copied a few files that I hadn't tried opening to my laptop running the same version of Office, but they appeared corrupted on it as well. I tried running through the repair procedures on this machine and it didn't work either.
Two things: one, do I have some kind of virus on this desktop, and two, has anyone found a way to repair the corrupted files?

Some files - not all, don't open when double clicked. Word (or excell) starts up, the hourglass sits there for a few seconds and then rotates once, then the tail of the mouse cursor turns multiple colors for a short time, then nothing. Word stays open but the file never opens. Shut down word and double click on the same file again and it opens right up. Again, not all files. Happens consistently with the same files (i.e., open it twice to actually see it, edit it, close it, have to open it twice again to get it to come up).

Then the folder freezes and i must use task manager to close the folder. Keep in mind that i DONT receive any error messages when double clicking the the file.
i can however, go into start >programs >microsoft office > (word or excel) and open the program there, then open the document. but i shouldnt have to do this.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop. A couple of days ago I tried to open an excel file that I regularly use and when I opened it, all cells were blank except A1. In it was "FileError_22001. I start to investigate and every excel file is the same. Furthermore, all of my word & picture files have the same problem. All my excel files are 18 KB, all my word files are 20 KB. They are all time stamped with the exact same time.

I have McAfee that is provided by my employer but I discovered that it had not been updated in some time for some unknown reason. I called our IT folks yesterday morning and they tried to get me fixed but were unable to and had to pass the ticket up to the next level. They were unable to get the virus stuff working again either.

Whatever I got infected with turned off my McAfee firewall, then started corrupting all of my excel, word and picture files. It did not corrupt any files in my recycle bin. I tired to do a system restore to the day before the problems started but it didn't help. Turns out whatever got loaded probably happened the day before all the bad stuff started happening. So, I unrestored the restore that I did the first time and did a system restore to December 1st instead. It did not help and created more problems for me. I keep getting these pop ups, one after another.

I would attach screen shots of the errors but I can't figure out how to do it.

I recently did a new install of Windows XP, having been using Windows 2000. I backuped and formatted the disk and the install went with out problem. I also installed SP3.

The main problems I'm experiencing are with Word files taking a very long time to load and being unable to access the internet/network for about 40 seconds when booting up.

I wonder if I'm infected or perhaps there is a network issue?

Here's a detailed description:

On startup items load as normal, then there is a long delay of about 30-40 seconds when nothing happens as if it's finished start up, however I can't access the internet or the network. Then the remaining startup programs suddently load (such as the Wacom graphics tablet driver) and I can now access the internet and network.

When I click a Word or Excel files from a shared drive it 14 seconds to load Word/Excel then another 3 seconds to load the file itself! However when I load Word locally it loads instantly and load a new document instantly. (Office 2003).

After the computer had been on for about 5/6 hours Word/Excel loads files from the network instantly. Really weird and annoying!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, John

Here are a couple of things to try (if you have not already done so):
1. Run scandisk/checkdisk

3. Check to see what applications launch on start up. If you re-installed a ton of applications (Office, for example) these may be launching their quick starts on boot; also review your Anti-Virus's settings.

This is a long shot, but you may have to associate the files with the program they were meant for. On eway to do this is to open my computer, not any office program. Find the file (files) you want, right click and choose "Open With" and pick the correct program in the list.

In the future your files should open with the right program without any additional efftort.

I have a laptop with Vista 64 and use Microsoft Office 2007. Within the last few months I noticed that attachments to email no matter what client I use cannot be opened. (Word and Excel) If I save a file and go to word or excel I can open the file normally. This only occurs when I double click on a file that is an attachment. I have attached a jpg file that shows the verbiage of the actual error. This one was through Lotus notes but it doesnt matter if I am using outlook or gmail it always generates something similiar. Hopefully someone has some ideas so I can rectify this situation. I have tried numerous solutions and have not had any luck in resolving this problem.

Was this email from a client or did you try to send it?

For past few weeks I have noticed that I cannot open any word/excel file when broadband internet is running. The moment I click the icon 'safely remove hardware' from the system tray to disconnect the modem, all the word/excel files start opening swiftly. I have windows xp SP3 & 768 MB RAM

I have an Excel sheet that contains text/data per row. This excel sheet may have as many as 300 rows of data. I would like to export the data in the excel file row to a word template, and save that to a specific file name which corresponds to column 2. I would like to be able to 'click' a button and have all 50 rows export their information using the word template and have these files saved under specific filenames in the line item data (ex: column 2). Do you have any suggestions on how I can do this?

I have Word and Excel 2013 installed and it works fine but will not open a file if I double click on it. I get the error message shown in the attachment. Can anyone suggest how I can correct this? I have checked the default programs list and (e.g.) Excel is identified for xls or xlsx files.
Up to today I had 2010 and 2013 both installed on this machine and used 2010 typically. I deleted 2010 thinking it might correct this but it did not.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all -- I have read a lot about similar complaints, but the solutions
are not working. I have a new DELL XPS, and installed my copy of office
onto it. Whenever i double click a document (Word/Excel)The program
launches, but the document doesnt load. I HAD Norton A/V on the system
when it was delieverd, but i uninstalled it as soon as I got it. After
reading, I thought maybe the offiveav.dll was still registered from the
old antivirus install, but i cannot find the file when searching in my system,
including hidden files/directories.
So now i have no A/V scan, had AVG, which was requesting a virus scan
of the doc before loading -- I removed it, and the virus scan message
disappeared, but the document still doesnt load.
I reinstalled office and also tried deleting the normal.dot file and
ran word to create a new one. All have not given me a solution. Also did a repair from the help menu in word without help.
BTW from within Word/Excel i can go to the open menu, and open any file
without difficulty, but I cannot tolerate this problem. Anyone else
with a sililar problem and possibly a solution.
Thanks in advance.

I've been trying to resolve this very slow opening problem, but no success.
Tried "detect and repair", this worked but after restart or shutdown the problem came right back.
Any suggestions for a fix, hopefully short of reinstalling MS Office, would be greatly appreciated.

After an automatic HP update, my Microsoft Word and Excel programs won't work and my files won't open.  What caused this and what can I do to fix the problem without losing my files?  I have files that are part of my work and I HAVE to have them ASAP.  Please help. Thanks in advance.

A:my microsoft word and excel programs won't work and files wo...

Hi: Try running the system restore utility and select a restore point to a time before the automatic HP update ran. If you are unfamiliar with how to use this program, please read the info at the link below. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore Then change you HP update program to notify you that there are updates and you choose when to install them rather than it being done automatically. That way you can run them and find out which one is blowing up your system and you can prevent that one from running the next time. Or you can just leave things as they are if they are working OK for you. Paul

Hi billibo

I don't know if this is relevant, but I had a problem a couple of days ago and found that my Windows Installer Service had somehow been disabled. Resetting this to manual fixed things for me. Something to check anyway. (Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services).

Good luck.
