Thinkpad X1 Extreme BSOD

Q: Thinkpad X1 Extreme BSOD

Getting all the possible BSOD errors on my NEW (replaced) X1 Extreme. That's disgusting considering I've paid around 3000 for the top configuration. I had this as a replacement because the previous one had screen issues, WiFi card non working etc I'm totally sending this in for refund this time and I'm probably going for a different brand this time!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

See subject.  Ever since the BIOS upgrade, the dock no longer crashes.  Two days running now with no problems; prior to the upgrade it would crash routinely when connecting via USB-C.  I had to employ the unsavoury workaround of connecting the laptop to a charger and connecting it to the dock via the USB-A port using the USB-A to USB-C adaptor supplied.  Now I'm connecting via USB-C cable only. In fact, I'd given up on using the dock at all and had it just sitting there.  I decided to give it another go after reading that BIOS v1.19 fixed instances of BSODs occuring when connected to an external monitor (which I did experience now and again when connecting to an external monitor via HDMI i.e. not via dock).    Dock Type : 40AFX1E Type : 20MF

Hello, I've been using Thinkpad X1 Extreme for the past 1.5 months. And now speakers(or only right one I believe) started having an issue with crackled/noise sound on high frequencies. It's almost unusable to listen something with speakers because of how painfull it to the ears.  Is there anything possible to do with it to fix it? Or replace internal speaker. Recording with sound:https://www.dropbox.com/s/tjqzczipq45xyh1/video_2019-07-29_15-03-27.mp4?dl=0

This laptop just came in yesterday. Initially even after installing all the updates, the computer was running rather sluggish and slow compared to my previous 2 year old Asus Laptop, in terms of scrolling through webpages, pdf and responsiveness. Now I've reinstalled Windows 10, some of the sluggishness is gone but on Google Drive and Chrome I still find that it is slower compared to my previous laptop.  Do I have a defective unit? Does anyone else have the same problem?

On my new Thinkpad X1 Extreme, I can't activate Bitlocker "automatic mode" as it should be with Windows 10 Pro 1809.I have a fully operational TPM 2.0: But as shown in system information, it's due to "Un-allowed DMA capable bus/devices(s) detected": With Vantage, I made a full update of the system, so I belive BIOS and everything is up to date. Is there a way to correct what Windows thinks is a DMA threat ? Somethink else to update ? Thank you.

Hello, I am bought ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2. I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. As written here: https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201906-27150 "The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme 2nd Gen laptop with the components described below has been awarded the status of certified pre-install for Ubuntu". Everything works for me, but the laptop has too little battery life (compared to Windows). The site indicates that the system is available in some regions with a special image of Ubuntu pre-installed by the manufacturer. Can I get the special image of Ubuntu somewhere? Or ?an I somehow increase the battery life in Ubuntu?

My new X1 Extreme hangs every few days. It locks up HARD, so that the only way to restart is to hold the power button down until it turns off.I've updated all the drivers, but one:The U630 Intel video driver will not install. It complains that it can't install on this operating system (Windows 10). Has anyone else had this problem & found a solution? (more concerned about the lock-ups than the Intel driver) I also updated the BIOS recently, but that didn't help.

Hi I bought a X1 Extreme last week and it's driving me nuts already. The notebook simply does not charge. When I plug-in the power adapter, Windows says that the power supply is plugged-in. But the battery status doesn't change, in both ways (it's not charging but also not discharging). It just stays at the current charging status for hours. I also have Lenovo dockingstation "ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock 170W" and it's the same problem. After a research on the internet, I found the following article which actually helps, but only for a single charge. But as soon as I unplug the power supply again, I have to reboot again, turn of the battery in the BIOS and reconnect the power supply again. https://stebalien.com/blog/fix-for-lenovo-x1-carbon-not-charging/ The drivers are all up to date (installed via Lenovo System Update application). Does anybody suffer from this issue aswell? Thanks for your help!

I purchased an X1 Extreme (4K) a few months ago. I have run into a few issues and was hoping I could get some advice. For reference, I have observed these issues across multiple different Windows versions, GeForce driver versions, and Lenovo BiOS versions. I am happy to answer any follow-up questions in the comments. 1.When I have hybrid graphics enabled, I have observed significant stutter when scrolling in applications such as Google Chrome, Spotify, and more, especially when opening PDFs in Chrome. Turning off hybrid graphics resolves fixes this, but I was wondering if there was another option I had other than compromising my battery life by disabling hybrid graphics.2.When I keep the TrackPoint enabled, it occasionally begins moving the cursor on its own and keeps going for a few seconds, with no apparent way to regain control until it stops. While I can fix this by just turning off the TrackPoint, I enjoy using it and would like to know if there is a different solution to this issue. Thank you in advance!

Hello, last week on Friday I closed my laptop and went home, after opening the lid to start working, my laptop didn't boot up. So I force shutdown it (holding the power button for like 20 seconds), after pressing the power-on button, the laptop didn't boot up, instead it started going in a loop, the keyboard backlit started turning on and the fans started, but after 2-3 seconds it powered off automatically, and again powered on automatically with the same behaviour (keyboard backlit and the fans started turning on), this went on and on, until I pressed the button on the back of the laptop, now, when I turned on the laptop, it started w/o any problems. On Saturday when I wanted to wake up my laptop again, it didn't, this time I did the same as above, so forced shut it down, and pressed the power on button, but this time, it didn't turn on, even when I pressed the button on the back of the laptop, and the laptop still has the same behaviour as above. I opened the laptop and changed the RAM slots: nothing  has changedI opened and changed the hard drives, and even took one of them: nothing has changed The laptop doesn't even show the Lenovo sign when I power on the laptop. And I can't even access BIOS. And interestingly my guarantee ended one day before this happened (on Thursday!) Any help would be great. Thanks a lot

Hello,I recently purchased a brand new X1 Extreme, switching (like I suppose many people) from an older MacBook Pro. I am delighted with the machine, and in particular I found that the following key combinations are implemented in the same manner as the MacBook:Fn + left = HomeFn + right = EndHowever, some Fn key combinations are not implemented, and they do nothing. In particular:Fn + up = Page UpFn + down = Page DownFn + backspace = DeleteSince the combinations are implemented by the keyboard controller firmware they cannot be added in software, much to the frustration of former Apple users. So, my request is: would it please be possible to pass this request to the person who maintains the keyboard controller firmware on the X1 Extreme? Adding the missing combinations would maintain total compatibility with the current setup, and would increase the appeal of the X1 Extreme for all the MacBook refugees. Thank you for your attention.

Hi All, I just plaed an online order for ThinkPad X1 Extreme and i have been closely following threads here for the past week to help me decide for the X1E.  I dont know if my question would make sense or not but there is no way to know what kind of FLASH is the SSD used in X1E before placing the order. I checked mine and it was a TLC SSD. I have read online and I came to know that MLC is far more reliable and has 2x better write speeds than a TLC SSD. Who decides what our machine gets when we place an order? No one from the sales team disclosed this before order placing. How do i ask them to change it to a MLC if i want to? Do i have to cancel and place a new order?  Thanks,

I've have an X1 Extreme, for less than a month, and consistently had BSOD issues when or just shutdowns that seem to be revolving around the video drivers. I then upgraded my video drivers and now my secondary montior will not work. This is just awful. Wish Lenovo would actually make sure these laptops actually work before shipping them out. Hi! I was wondering if I could get some help with a RAM upgrade question for my new thinkpad. I'm currently running on just a 8gb single channel config that shipped with the laptop (2666mhz cl19). If I add a Corsair Vengeance 2666mhz CL18 would the speeds still match up and work well (without crashing or going down to a lower speed)? Just to see what would happen I added the stick from my old acer laptop into the thinkpad, which was also running 8gb x 1 . Now my the thinkpad registers 16gb of ram in dual-channel, but at 2133mhz. The original stick in the thinkpad is at 2666 cl19 as before and the one from my old laptop is running at 2133 cl15, if I'm reading the cpu-z stats right. Should I ditch the old stick in favor of a new corsair? Do both sticks have to be exactly identical to work well with each other? How big of a performance boost is there between running dual-channel ram at 2133mhz vs 2666mhz? Enough of a boost to warrant the extra $40? I'm pretty new to this and I'd like to be able to save money wherever possible. Any hope would be appreciated. I'm gonna attach a few screenshots from cpu-z in hopes that it would help you all help me out. Thanks!

I couldn't find any other topic about this so here we go:At first, my laptop fans went full speed every few minutes or so for like 5 seconds every time, that got fixed by a bios update. Now it is silent, always, and that's the problem right now, even if it is almost too hot to touch the fans won't speed up so it doesn't cool enough. I looked everywhere for a manual way to turn the fan speed higher (like MSI has on their laptops) but I couldn't find a way.My question: Can I fix this somehow, is there a setting I missed, is there anything at all I can do about this?

Just bought a ThinkPad X1 Extreme UHD and had some questions because I plan on doing a few things upon receiving it. Got the smallest drive because I'm swapping it out with a pair of Samsung EVO 970s I have to dual boot. Doing a clean install from my Windows 10 USB installer and I have Pro license through my Microsoft account, so not concerned about losing the recovery partition and license. I pretty much never use the manufacturers recovery partition because it typically comes with bloat and redundant utilities; just takes up space. Windows comes with enough bloat on a clean install--don't need more. That being said, my concern is with the UHD touchscreen and its ability to recognize a ThinkPad Pen Pro: will I need to manually install an additional driver or program to make sure everything works properly? (Seems fairly straightfoward if I do: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-...) After that, I intend to under-volt the CPU in the BIOS. That is where I have typically done it just because I've heard enough from others using software like Throttlestop and XTU that the settings aren't being applied at start-up, they are randomly being unapplied, and that it adds overhead to start-up of the OS and background processes. Never tried so can't speak from experience. In the past I have had to use utilities like AfuWin (to back-up and restore BIOS) and AMIBCP (to unlock hidden... Read more

I've been running into numerous issues regarding the Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen 2. I've only had for about a month. These issues came in about 10 days after purchasing. I didn't have time to return or call support due to school finals. Specs:Processor: i7-9750HRAM: 16 GBStorage 512 GBDisplay: FHD 1920 x 1080 300 nitsGraphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Issues:- my battery life is very bad. It runs out of battery in about 2-3 hours of normal to medium use. I do not game, I'm just a student browsing the web. - the computer randomly shuts down and turns back on. - I take this laptop to school. It's fully charged when I leave at 6:30 in the morning. When I need to use it at about 11:30 AM, my computer is at around 10% and is very hot to the touch. It is so hot that one can receive a burn if held for too long. I don't think this is normal. A laptop should only lose a few percent over a couple of hours and shouldn't overheat if it isn't even running. - the computer claims that my wifi card isn't plugged in correctly. I did not want to tamper with the wires so I did a simple restart. The wifi seemed to work again, but after a few days I run into the same problem. Please help me out here.

I just received X1 Extreme.Everything works fine and as expected, but there is one thing that keeps bugging me.It's a weird little electric noise X1E makes. Here is the electric noise.I am not sure what causes this noise but I think this happens when the fan starts running.I don't think the laptop should make this kind of noise since there is no HDD, CD, or other parts that makes noise other than fan.And fan should not make those electric noise. Also, I noticed that there is little rattling sound (only noticable when I put my ears very close to bottom of laptop). The elctric sound happens when heavy-loading and the rattling sound is unnoticeable. But I am worried if there is some malfunctioning hardware in my laptop. Does anyone have similar issue? Is this normal?
