Q: Lenovo Yoga 520 - hard drive upgrade & pen query

HiI am new to Lenovo and just last week bought a Yoga 520 (Type80X80) Ideapad running Windows 10.I'd be grateful for some answers from the community re - 1. The hard drive capacity says 120gb. I'd like to upgrade to 256 or 512 gb SSD. How do I know if it is a 2.5'' SSD or if any free slot is available.Do I need to open it up (will it void the warranty?) 2.Can I then partition the hard drive and dual boot android and windows 10? 3.Can I use a Wacom bamboo pen with it (comes under budget) Regards Simon Lenovo Yoga 520 (Type 80X8) Laptop Ideapad Machine Type Model - 80X800S4UKProcessor: 1x () Memory: 1x 4GB DDR4-2133 Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64(JP:Japanese) Hard Drive: 1x Wireless Network: 1x Ports: 1x 4-in-1 Media Card Reader (SD MMC SDHC SDXC) Camera: 1x Graphics: 1x Monitor: 14.0 FHD Included Warranty: 1 Year Depot

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just a little gripe, I have a Lenovo Yoga 700 and was very disappointed to learn that the 512gb hard drive in this unit cannot be upgraded. I tried several m.2 drives but it would not recognize any of them...I would like to go to 1gb and was looking to buy the 910 but if this is what I have in store for me..I will look somewhere else... is there any work around for this or has anyone had any luck finding a drive that will work. . It is an M.2 Drive.

Hi all, I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR with the 32gb internal hard drive. I thought it would suit my purpose well as I only want to use it to run software to check error codes on my car (not much hard drive capacity required). I'm really disappointed though as I thought it would be super-fast to boot and use with 32gb SSD that only runs the operating software; how wrong I was... Long story short I?m trying to improve the performance and would like to install a 64gb SSD; I have remove the back and found the connector (SATA_CONN1) but it has no cable connector. Does this mean the motherboard will not support a SATA drive or does it mean I need a connector soldered on (this looks very tricky as the pins are so close together). See attached photos of the inside of my notebook and the connector cable I intended to purchase. Any help would be greatly appreciated; if I don?t get this resolved the notebook will be going in the bin and I?ve wasted a reasonable amount of money. Final resort is to down grade from windows 10 to windows 7 and free up some disk space. I?d like to do this anyway but struggled for 6 hours already to undertake this task; I keep receiving an Error Code: 0x6 Thanks, Richard

Hi,

I've been having problems with my hard drive ever since i bought it and now its seems to have gotten really bad (noisy and staggering) and i wish to replace it. The only problem is it that I have no idea of what kind of hard drive i should buy and i have little knowledge about them. I don't know whether i need a scsi or IDE. Is there a way of finding it out from my computer? I don't have my manual any longer and because my pc is over 5 years old the packard website doesn't even support it.

My pc is a packard bell pulsar 23/h, has 4.3 gb harddrive and 32 memory.

Another query is that I think my computer can only support a hard drive of up to 8gb and I don't no where to buy them. can anyone suggest a Uk based site that stocks them?

hope anyone can help with this
thanks for your time!

Hi Everyone, I'm at my wits end and was hoping someone might be able to help me understand what exactly I need to do, purchase to bring my laptop back to life. Long story short, I have had this for just over 2 years, no more warranty and the hard drive I believe is going out/has gone out. It all started with a failed windows 10 upgrade, kept looping, finally I blew away I guess everything on it. Now when I am trying to re-instal windows 8.1 it tells me that it cannot because the hard disk may fail soon. I can get mostly through the windows setup but it always ends up failing. My question is, can someone help me identify what exactly needs to be replaced? I am fairly tech savy good at following directions and installing things by myself. (garbage disposals, haha). What I am not good at is trying to track down what hard drive to buy would be? I hate to bring it to best buy as its $200 just for a diagnosis and then whatever to fix it on top of that.  Can anyone offer insight and help me become enlightened? Thanks so much, L

Hey Guys,Im trying to get a laptop working for my brother. He has a Yoga 500-14IBD. The laptop works perfectly fine with the current hard drive running windows 10.He has been sent out a new hard drive which has been preloaded with windows 10 but adapted with specialised software (which shouldn't be too important for the issue).I installed the new hard drive into the Laptop and it won't boot past the Windows Boot Manager. The laptop does recognise the Hard drive and see's it is connected but wont boot into it. Where it gets weird is that I tried this hard drive in my other Lenovo T420 Laptop and it boots into the hard drive no problems. This rules out hard ware issues. Is there something which needs to be adjusted in the BIOS to allow the Yoga to boot up into this hard drive? I have tried switching from UEFI Mode or Legacy BIOS mode but this didnt make any real difference. There was an error showing in Legacy mode regarding PXE-E61 Media Test Failure Error but this occurred when the laptop worked in my T420 so it shouldnt be related.  I have tested another Windows 10 installation Hard drive on the Yoga (the one from my T420) and it worked. Just a note the hard drive that isnt working is not and SSD but the ones which are working are SSD'sAny advice would be appreciated

There's an HMM here:http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_yoga_2_13_hmm.pdfIt's a bit confusing as to which of the mSATA and M.2 are the WLAN and SSD slots.https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/171352/Upgrade+Hard+drive+on+Lenovo+IdeaPad+Yoga+2+13+%28not+pro...This seems to say the mSATA is for WLAN and the M.2 is for SSD.Maybe open up your system and see which one is empty?I think any size should work, as long as it's a standard connector.

I currently have a 1 TB WD solid state hybrid drive that is suffering from a SMART event and needs to be replaced. The actual mechanics of this do not look too hard. I was going to get 1 TB WD 3D NAND 2.5in SATA SSD to replace it as WD gave me a 25% off coupon so it's a decent deal for the drive.  https://www.wd.com/products/internal-ssd/wd-blue-3d-nand-sata-ssd.html#! I really don't have any important files on my computer that aren't already stored on my dropbox or on an external hard drive so I'm not worried about losing any files, but I'm worried about my ability to get my Windows 10 and Office working again. I have linked the digital key to my Microsoft account, so is that all i basically need to do? And how can i ensure Office works again? Lastly, should i wipe the existing hard drive before tossing it and could that cause any problems with my replacement? Also, any tips/advice are welcome.  Thanks!Brad

A:Lenovo Y700 hard drive upgrade questions

Hi bradpitch92,

Greetings.

I think you are good to go, the speed of the replacement storage is something that you would notice. Since your machine came with preloaded OEM Windows version, the product key would automatically reload as it is captured from the systemboard.

Linked keys on your Microsoft account is also a good practice for other users (specially with replacement systemboard). The product key would now be accessible with using the same account.

As a practice, have everything set and working first (including checking your MS office keysunder your account) before deciding on the old drive. Soon as everything is activated and all data restored, then you can decide to wipe the old drive out from confidential/ personal files/data (specially pictures).

If you need additional storage, then you can refer back to our previous post for the m.2 option.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Hi, New forum member here, I have been an user of Lenovo's G50-80 (Model Number 80E5020VIN) series laptop for the past year or so, on a Windows 10 (64 bit) OS. I would like to upgrade my laptop's existing RAM from 4GB to its maximum possible capacity (for the given model). I have already looked into partsLookup page of Lenovo and found out following RAMs to be compatible with my system. 11202325 - Hynix HMT351S6EFR8A-PB 4GB DDR3L 160011202433 - HY HMT451S6BFR8A 4GB 1600 DDR3L11202545 - SS M471B5173QH0-YK0 4GB DDR3L 160011202706- SK HMT451S6BFR8A-PB 4GB DDR3L 160011202790 - RMT3170EF68F9W 4GB DDR3L 16005M30G18425- M471B5173EB0-YK0 1600 4GB5M30G79998 - Micron CT51264BF160BJ-8F1E15M30G75129 - RMT3170MN68F9F-1600 4GBNow my query is, what is the maximum RAM capacity that my system can run on ? I am unable to find anywhere on Lenovo's site about this aspect. Can my system run on a 16 GB RAM setup? Are my system's board and processor (i3 5th gen) capable of having 16GB RAM on board? If so, Is it advisable to buy two sticks of 8GB RAM from one fo the above mentioned compatible RAMs (suggested by Lenovo partslookup site) for my system ? I welcome your suggestions/advise/guidance on this, if possible. Thanks in advance!

I am wondering which type of ribbon cable I need to connect the drive. My old drive was an ATA-33 model. First Question.....

Did you buy an ATA-100 Controller?

The BX Chipset generally doesn't have onboard UATA controllers!

If you get the controller card, then the 80 pin cable is the way to go!

Hi All,

My dad has a laptop which says that is has a 640 gb hdd, he got a message to say that he hard drive is nearly full. When I looked his 'C' drive shows as being 80 gb and is nearly full, he also has a 'D' drive which shows as 80gb and is pretty empty.

What I don't understand is :

1) two lots of 80gb dont equal 640, so where is the rest of the hard drive??

2) Under the 'C' drive is has a 20gb file which is an ARC file, what is this, I have not heard of it before, is it the system operating stuff, or just rubbish and I can delete it (thought I had better ask first!)

Thanks,

Developed a hard ware error. "Kernal Stack Inpage Error" Blue screen from time to time

Done the following. Removed unnecessary progs. Run AV and Anti Spy

Done CHKDSK

Also ran Windows live Scanner.

When I reboot it warns me that there is an imminent Disk Failure and to backup.. i F1 and it is ok.

I am assuming that my hard drive (which was a 30g replacement) is on its way out. not saurprised as it wasn't brand new.

I assume I need to get a genuine brand new replacement. I thought I read somewhere that the max hard drive for this laptop was 60gb Is that correct.

Love the laptop and loathe to ditch it if I can get a replacement hard drive for a reasonable price.

any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi,I recently had some issues with my laptop, Hence on contacting the HP customer support regarding this I was told and instructed to conduct the recovery and resetting on my new laptop. After completion of the resetting I observed that there was only "C drive" in my laptop and the "D drive" which was present earlier had disappeared. So I once again contacted the HP support and I was told that the D drive will disappear after conducting the recovery process! So then they took control of my laptop and created a new drive which has 200GB free space available in it.Now my C drive has only "56GB" free space in it and the other drive that was created has "200GB" free space in it. The C drive has turned red showing its almost full. I haven't stored any files in my laptop nor installed any software except for an antivirus at the moment. What I want to know is whether it is normal and ok to have such conditions. Can someone clarify on the above matter please.Thank you.

Now I have a little problem my partners laptop is terribly slow and in part because it has a slow 5400rpm spinner.
So to get a bit more speed out of it I got a hybrid Seagate 500GB drive. Now the original drive already mentioned is an unusual 600GB drive.

Now I just want to clone the 600GB drive to the new one using Macrium but it comes up with the message not enough space even though the data would fit easily onto the 500GB drive.

I know this is the usual thing that happens but someone did mention to me that I can probably "trick" the machine into thinking the 600GB is actually smaller by altering the partition sizes however I cannot find what that post with the instructions.

Mind you he did say it might work and not will work.

So any clever people out there - ideas would be most welcome. As an afterthought I do have a new Seagate 750GB 7200rpm spinner as well but obviously if the hybrid is going to be faster I would rather use it.

I have a computer problem at my new job and I'm not sure what to do. Basically, I've got two computers and no server. I know they are connected through some kind of network because we have a 'shared folder' in which we can both view the same documents.

On my computer, I have an external hard drive for saving back up. I need to figure out how to make the second computer save to the same hard drive but can't figure out how to make it 'see' the hard drive. The computer that is not connected to the external hard drive has some kind of wireless USB adapter in the back to read the Wifi as well. I know it has to be possible to connect the second computer to the hard drive because this prick of a computer guy was going to come back to set it up and we told him not to.

Any suggestions would be gratefully noted. Thanks!

Have you enabled file sharing on that drive? Open My Computer, right click on the external drive, select Sharing and security, check the box that says Share this folder on the network. This should make it visible on the other computer so you can save files to it.

Any 3.5" drive at 2T or under should work fine.  Upgrading the CPU would mean buying used - these CPUs went out of production not long after your system was current - and that was a decade ago.
