Preferred Solution: windows 7 sleep mode freeze....

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have the same problem with my newly installed copy of Win7 Pro. Disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse gets things working again for me and avoids a reboot, but I haven't found a permanent fix and would very much like one.

I have posted on "Anyone else kind of disappointed?" about this problem, and was suggested to start a Thread on this topic.

Here are the posts.

I am still having bug and freeze problems on all of the computers that I have been testing on since the first release in November.

I am currently testing both x64 and x86 versions on 4 of my PC's and still having minor bug issues, and the major freeze problem.

I do not Just use my PC's for e-mails, browsing the web and gaming. I primarily use them for Engineering Design Work and they need lots of resources to operate efficiently. My primary Base unit is the one I do most of my work on and the Most efficient Operating system on it is Windows XP x64 (sp2) and customized. (Not the Basic install of services and registry sets).

The freeze issue is random and it happens when my PC's go into sleep mode. Some times the will wake up normally, but way to often they will not wake at all, I have to force re-boot. And no error logs related to sleep mode issues, only the E-ID 41 (forced re-boot). This has happened on all the releases from 7000 to 7127, and now 7600, the releases from 7137 to 7229 never had this problem. And this has happened on all my test PC's including Laptops and Desktops.

I have tried many changes in settings for Power Settings (Advanced), Network Adapter Settings, Monitor settings.

Ideally I want my Network Adapter to stay Active on my main box so I can access files from my other co... Read more

A:Sleep Mode Still Freeze up, Win 7 RTM

actually yes i have had this problem and for some reason it has become less and less apparent on other test builds...
i have also have had a problem with the USB that at any moment it may freeze on me (it felt like playing russian roulette where i would lose my work if it froze..)

i have not tweaked in the sense that you have and you can say i have a default installation of Win7....
hearing such a report makes me think it might still be hardware related (the only builds that i did not have this happen was on the pre 7000 builds....(6801 was jthe only build where i did not have this problem....)

i also have no solution for this and have done everything that i could think of, the only culprit i can think of would be hardware the hardware drivers (it seems interesting that you say USB and the Network (this is laptop and i use a wireless card) have had issues ... i began to hypothesize that it may be the usb causing the freezing, because in certain builds i was able to get access to computer without it freezing but had hard CPU usage by the System , DPC's and Interrupts (bordering on 100%, with USB device attached, and with devices unattached during sleep)...

since i found out my PC's HDD became corrupted (have had way to many corrupt sectors) and been brought a spare HDD, i will experiment on disabling driver and other miscellaneous software and see if i can come it make a sense of this weird bug...

I'm using an Acer Aspire 3370 laptop, If it's important to solve the problem.

I get this error whenever I come out of sleep mode but not from a fresh reboot. Only every time I restore from sleep mode.

The computer will freeze at my password screen for 30 second after I have typed my password.

I am not sure what caused this at all.

I check my Event Viewer Errors and get these consistently.

Event 7000, Service Control Manager Event Provider
The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Event 7011, Service Control Manager Event Provider
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the stisvc service.

I have tried fixing this by turning off and on a few different services and slightly editing the registry without any luck.

A:Freeze from Sleep mode for 30 seconds

Read other 4 answers

I purchased a new Vista computer back in April from Dell and it's worked fine up until a couple days ago.

The last few times I've tried to use my computer after bringing it out of Sleep mode it freezes up and nothing responds. After trying to use ctrl+alt+delete and few other things I get this error:

"Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog"

The only way I can get things working again is to do a hard reboot. It then runs fine until I put it back into sleep mode and try using it once it's brought out of sleep mode again.

I googled the error and found lots of info on people having this error, but no concrete solutions.

The only thing I can recall that changed or was installed lately was a Microsoft update. No hardware, power or software changes were made.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or has anyone else encounted this problem?

Thank you.

(First of all, I don't have any BSOD codes and rarely get blue screens, but I couldn't find another appropriate category and I feel my issues are similar to BSOD. Please move if necessary)

I have a fairly Frankenstein-ish computer on my hands, consisting of old parts due to my financial situation. You can view the specs on my profile, but I run Windows 7 64-bit SP1, and the issues started when I quite recently installed a new motherboard I got from a friend, including the processor and RAM. I also installed a used graphics card:

ASUSTek Computer INC. M4A87TD EVO
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 512 MB

The computer ran fine at first, but then started to have some kind of hardware issues, which have had little consistency over the five or so months I've ran this system. I'll describe them below.

1) The most recent and most consistent problem is that the computer won't wake up from sleep mode, which started occuring after I let Windows install all the updates I thought would concern me (including SP1). When trying to wake the computer up, the screen remains black and nothing does anything (keyboard, mouse, power/reset button), and I have to physically switch off the power on the back of the PSU. When trying to restart, problem 2) below will occur. I tried to install the update Hibernation does not work or memory dump file is not created after you install Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 to... Read more

A:Freeze when in sleep mode, occasionally won't start, etc

Had the 'new' parts been used by your friend? If not there should be a warranty to you but if they had been used there may be a warranty to your friend. It's my experience that adding in used parts changes the 'playing field' and diagnosing where the problems are becomes more difficult. I've seen a number of computers that didn't play well with Sleep and Hibernate, sometimes only took an adjustment in Power Options to help, other times nothing helped but turning Sleep and Hibernate off.

I like how user name 'Frustrated' was already taken. I rec'd my computer less than 2 weeks ago and have spent many hours trying to resolve the sleep issue and having to restart it by pressing on the power button for 5 seconds. I've looked through the forums and it looks like plenty of people have had this issue, especially with the T61. If I close the lid or put the thing into sleep mode by using the start menu, 70 percent of the time the thing will not wake up.I've udated the BIOS, uninstalled the fingerprint reader, completely removed the Lenovo Power Controls....nothing works and it appears as if Lenovo is willing to do nothing about it. Can I return this thing since it's been less than a month?I've never liked Apple, but I think I'm ready to jump ship.

A:W540 Sleep Mode causes computer to freeze since day one!!

I do not work for Lenovo. I don't know the return policy, but I'm sure it was included in your purchase documents. Does everything else with the machine work as intended? The W540 was released relatively recently, so there will surely be a few early kinks to work out.  Still, I would guess that not waking from sleep mode sometimes might be classified as a non-critical bug.  (I'm not saying it doesn't matter, just that a BSOD would be more critical, for example). I never use sleep, so it's a little hard to understand swapping to Apple of all things, as the result of a wonky sleep function.  I hope that statement reads as intended--a simple observation, not a judgment call. One option: put in a solid state drive, and skip Sleep mode.  Your computer may boot completely faster than most recover from sleep.  Just a thought.

Hi there,

I'm currently having a BSOD/Freezing issue with on of my computers.
Whenever I'm leaving S3 sleep mode there's a chance the PC either:

-Gives a BSOD with a error concerning csrss.exe
-Freezes completely (including the mouse pointer) and needs to be shut down
-Shuts down by itself

These issues do not happen every single time I leave sleep mode, but they start to appear more often with every passing week.

I already tried the following:

-Updated all drivers where possible
-Flashed the BIOS to the newest version
-Removed the extra 500GB hard disk drive

All to no avail: the issues still appeared.

My system specs are:

-ASUS P8P67D Rev 3.1 Mainboard (BIOS version 2302)
-Intel Core i5 2500 3,30Ghz
-4096MB DDR3-1333 RAM
-Asus ENGT440
-60GB Corsair SSD Drive SATA (Windows installed on this drive)
-Western Digital Caviar Green 500gb
-Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
-2x Sony NEC DVD RW Drives

The Windows installation is the original OS that came with the computer. It's not been reinstalled yet and the computer is about 3 months old.

I attached a zip file which contains all the crash dumps and perflog generated.

A:BSOD or freeze after leaving sleep mode

These are all over the map but two things are active at the time of these crashes. First Bitlocker and second and more importantly Symantec.

I will bet it is the Symantec and were it me I would remove and replace it with MSE at least to test.

Symantec is a frequent cause of BSOD's. I would remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST

Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows
BTW your PowerIso driver needs updating.

Hi all,

I apologize in advance for the novel. I'm not sure when this issue started, but I'm wondering if it's connected to another issue I'm having. The latest issue has done this two or three times now...

Basically, I leave my computer on 24/7, but it doesn't go to sleep or hibernate, it RUNS in Windows 24/7 as I often have programs I need to let run overnight, etc. Some mornings, I will come back to my computer, hit a key on the keyboard or mouse, or move the mouse and the monitor won't come out of sleep mode. The computer SEEMS to be running as I see the HDD indicator light flickering. The only way to solve it in these cases is to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, which seems to bring everything back. I get the screen that lists "lock screen, switch user" etc., and then I can just hit cancel and go from there. THAT has happened maybe 10-12 times now over the last few months.

The LATEST issue (the one that's happened two or three times), is the same as above, except that when I come back, no keypresses or mouse movements of any sort will bring the computer 'back' and I have to hard reset with the button on the case.

Anybody had a similar issue or know how to solve it? I've read that it's an issue with the more recent ATi drivers, except that in the few months I've gone through like 2 official versions and 5 beta versions of those. I just got the latest official drivers two days ago (13.12) and the 'needing-to-Ctrl-Alt-Del-to-bring-the-monitor-out-of-sleep' thing is back on oc... Read more

Hello, I currently have a Lenovo Thinkpad T420, Windows 7 x64-bit.
I've recently run into this problem where, after starting my laptop up from sleep mode, some programs will freeze/hang when I attempt to use them. For example, when I log back into my computer from sleep mode and open Google Chrome, I cannot load anything, as if I have no internet connection, although I am connected to a network. I would then proceed to close Chrome, and try opening a new window for Chrome. But, Chrome will not appear anymore. I would then open task manager and see that there is still a Chrome process running, and I cannot kill that process. I have also noticed that the program, Steam (gaming platform), also is not responding, and cannot kill that process either from task manager. I would then try to shut down the computer, but the computer ends up hanging at the Shutting Down screen. This forces me to manually shut down the computer using the power switch. Other times, windows explorer will become non-responsive, and I must manually shut down the computer at that point. I have tried scanning with Malware Bytes and no viruses/malware is found. I have also tried using CCleaner to try and clean up my system. I have ran Chkdisk for hard drive errors, as well as the system file checker. This problem occurred about a month ago, and I do not recall anything unusual that I did during that time. The problem occurs maybe once every five times coming out of sleep mode. I also notice that this pro... Read more

Hi there smart handsome support guys. I have 2 regular windows xp personal computers that are in deep ****. The newer one is stuck in a log-on/log-off loop in all modes, including safe mode, when i boot it. Cannot access desktop at all. An apprentice computer guy had a check and he said nothing can be done to save my personal data - reformat comp to reuse. I don't have Windows installation/repair CD. Should I try knoppix cd or UBCD4win. I tried f-secure scan n repair cd from the net but that didn't work.

Now onto my other older comp - this one has given me the most headaches over the last decade, it has been attack by virus, spywares, malwares too often to count, yet it lives still but it may be at its last legs. I'm fed up with it but I want to try to save it before I decide to give up on it for good. The problem with it maybe that it's old (lot's of dust/dirt debris inside which I did my best to clean without any speacial tools) and it's time for it to retire. But I'm not prepared to retire it yet until I can find a way to save my internet explorer, opera n firefox browsing history, bookmarks n session onto a separate hard drive n use them on another comp, that's all i need. I would be done with these browsing, websites histories if the comp would stop crashing erratically all the time (i'm hoping no crash before i finish this post for help). I just had the fan replaced, and now when I use F4 to put the laptop in sleep mode and then close the lid, it remains in sleep mode when I open the lid.  Same thing occurs when I close the lid (no F4) for sleep mode and then open the lid.  However, when I select Sleep on the Windows 7 Start Menu and close the lid, the laptop does resume when I open the lid. NOTES:- Before replacing the fan, I used F4 for sleep and resume, because when I close the lid I would sometimes find the fan running the next morning- BIOS is up-to-date- Keyboard and mouse are set to wake PC- Power Options Settings:   - Allow hybrid sleep set to OFF and Hibernate set to NEVER (As they always have been)   - USB Settings > Disabled USB selective suspend settings  (These were enabled) While this isn't a huge problem, I would like to have things working as before, preferably without having to go back to the Lenovo certified shop. Thank you in advance for your help. Jeff

I've had this problem intermittently on my laptop for the past 2 years however it has been occuring more often recently.

Basically sometimes when I click the sleep button on Windows 7, the screen fades to black as usual. However the fan keeps running (sounds like when it's on full load) and the power button light stays on endlessly. I always have to force shut it down and restart it.

What can be the issue?

A:Laptop freezes between entering sleep mode to being in sleep mode

Hi joseph10444.

Such a situation may occur when some driver (mostly the PnP device drivers depending on the ACPI configuration) fail to response within a stipulated time period during the power state change.

Let us see some data. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
Those files will give us a closer look to the issue.

Since a couple of weeks ago whenever I put my computer to sleep it would sleep fine, but then when it resumed it would bluescreen. I had windows check for an update to the video driver as someone suggested, and it installed an older one! This just caused it to freeze when it resumed. I looked at the minidumps from the BSOD's and found ntoskrnl.exe to be the cause of a few of them. An extensive search said that it may be my keyboard. I slept it and then removed my keyboard and resumed, still broken. It also suggested running the repair tool on the windows 7 disk, however windows 7 came preinstalled on my computer, so i didn't have a disk. Finally, it told me to run a command line thing, which I cant remember exactly what it was, but it was something like dskchecker -energy or something. This didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know. after all of that, I have come here in hopes that someone would be able to help.

Hi everyone,
I am having a hard time to figure out what's wrong here.
Right after I enter password to the account and log in, it either freezes and sometimes opens up after almost 20+ minutes,
The same in safe mode: In safe mode it freeze at "Loaded: \windows\system32\Drivers\BthidBus.sys and waits there for another 15+ minutes and then shows the log in screen.

I tried out my patience as i have vital data to be recovered and even after i logged, it takes a lot of time to show the desktop.

The reason I wanted to do this is so I can either disable the password of my earlier account so i can copy paste the files from the C drive onto the new installation of win7, but so far i have been unsuccessful.

Is there a way i can simply copy paste the files from the old installation onto the new one. As when i do this the new installation asks for admin privileges and right after i click, it keeps on loading forever.

I have seen there CPU usage at 0%, everything else seems to be fine

I changed the appropriate setting in the registry. (msachi > start: 0) Then I changed the setting in my motherboard and Windows froze upon starting up, and my system rebooted.

The thing is, I changed it to AHCI before. It worked fine! I then switched back to IDE while trying to fix a problem with eSATA detection (turned out to be a faulty cord), Now I can't switch back! Sigh. I really would like my eSATA to be plug and play.

A:Why does Windows 7 freeze when I try to switch to AHCI mode?

Did you follow these steps? AHCI : Enable in Windows 7 / Vista

You may need to do a clean reinstall in AHCI mode following these steps to get it perfect: Reinstalling Windows 7

Then capture an image so you don't have to reinstall ever again.

A:Windows will not boot, go into safe mode an PC freeze up

Firstly it shouldn't be trying to run any recovery disk. You will have to see a computer specialist unless you are familiar with hardware inside your computer, if you are check all connections are plugged in ect. and that the heatsync is actually working

hi guys,

my pc used to be fine before and could go into sleep mode (s1-s3) without any issues. Recently though I've noticed that it stays awake in Windows 8. Don't get me wrong, even now, sometimes it works fine, but on other occasions nothing happens.

I've tried a lot of stuff:-

registry hack to disable ipv6
switch off any computers that are on the network
using powercfg checked what devices were enabled and cancelled them all

What else can I do?

Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. It goes into Sleep mode fine but anytime push a key to come back out of it.. it does nothing and has to be reset. Also it stops loading windows upon the first reset (the circles stop moving when says Loading Windows) then just stays on that screen which requires the reset button to be hit a second time.. finally moving past the loading circles to get to the desktop each time..

I downloaded the latest BIOS version which is a .cab file but trying to update it, says that the cab file cannot be read. Let me know if you need anymore information. Thanks for the help!

My Win7 PC has recently stopped powering off in sleep mode. I ran powercfg/energy in command prompt, which gave me a report with 6 errors which state:
"USB Suspend:USB Device not Entering Suspend"
, and one which says:
"Platform Power Management Capabilities:PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) Disabled
PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a known incompatibility with the hardware in this computer."

I have googled for answers as much as I can, but with my very low level IT experience, I've yet to fix the problem.

So far I've tried:
updating drivers for all USB devices in device manager (they were all apparently up to date)
checked powersave options

Can somebody suggest other things I should look into?
The main point is that to the best of my knowledge, I haven't installed anything new or changed any settings on my PC (I've been away for a month, but it was powering down fine the first few days on my return).
I'm wondering if some kind of software update could be the cause, but what I'm most worried about is if I've had some kind of a security breach during the course of trawling the internet (I'm using Bit Defender on auto pilot mode, nothing's been reported so far).

Hope someone can enlighten me. Thanks for your time.

A:Windows 7 not going to sleep mode

Additional info:
I just witnessed something else - the PC DOES power down after 30mins of idleness, but then immediately powers up again (I can hear the fan whirring even though the pc and monitor appear to be in sleep mode).

I am trying to get my PC to be woken from sleep by the keyboard. My keyboard and mouse are both USB devices so I have gone into my bios to enable USB devices to wake PC from sleep.

Now though my PC wont go into sleep mode all it does is breifly enter sleep mode then straight away comes back out of it, is there any thing that can be done to get around this problem.

From what I can gather there is no fix for this, but as there are some very knowledgeable people on this forum I thought I would ask.

I have an Envy x360, and Mingy's solution worked for me as well! Here are the steps to follow... - On the Desktop, right-click on This PC and select Properties- On the left, choose Device Manager- Click the arrow next to Display Adaptors to expand that category- Right-click on Intel(R) HD Graphics Family and select Update Driver Software...- Choose the option to Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software- Your computer should find and automatically install the updated driver- After the installation is complete, restart your computer I'm now able to successfully shut down, sleep, and resume from sleep! Hope this helps others with the same issue.

Hello there.

I upgraded from Windows 8 automatically without a fresh install. Before I upgraded, Windows 8 would go into sleep mode after 15 minutes of inactivity.

Since then, I have tried many things to get sleep mode to work.

This is my powercfg -energy report.

Hello just installed Windows 10 a few weeks ago and coming from Windows 7 I really love it had to get a book because it's so much to learn but I'm really enjoying it. The only problem I'm really having is that after installing a few applications windows
10 is now not going into the sleep mode. I read on Cnet about this problem that it might be an application that's running that's not allowing Windows to possibly go into the sleep mode. Hoping someone can help point me in the right direction to get this resolved.
Why is there no forum for Windows !0?? Hope I'm in the right place. Thanks!

I think I have tried everything but windows 10 will not go into sleep mode without manually doing it from the start/power button, has anybody struck this issue and have they resolved it? any help would be appreciated

A:Windows 10 sleep mode

You mean automatically or from the start menu? The sleep button in the start menu appears when you've installed all of the updates for Windows 10. If you want Windows 10 to sleep automatically after a certain amount of time, you will need to go into the Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Power Options>Change when the computer sleeps.

Hi, and thanks for reading

Sorry I can't really write much because its from my mobile device. After shutting down and installing a windows update unintentionally, whenever I try to boot back, it freezes at loading. I am unable to use my dvd drive as it won't boot discs (had to manually open it but still receives power). Safe mode does not appear either after pressing F5 and F8, and the only option I receive is to boot startup repair. That freezes in loading aswell. Please help!

I have an Asus P5N72-T premium motherboard.

A:windows loading freeze, can't safe mode, can't dvd boot

First thing you should do is back up your data.

One way you can do this is by using Ubuntu. This is completely free, and has the advantage that it can be run off a USB stick or a CD - saving you having to install it on your hard drive.

You can get it from here: http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

Step #2 on that page shows you how to create the USB/CD.

Then once you boot into it (choose the option where it just runs off the USB/CD) you can use it to copy your files from the Windows Partition to an external hard drive (Note: Do not copy anything to the Ubuntu Filesystem as it will not be saved on shut-down)

Then, try booting from the Windows DVD again to run start-up repair off it (make sure you have the DVD/CD drive set to the top of the boot priority list in the BIOS).

Windows 7 is freezing in sleep mode now... I don't think it's my drivers or anything because 2 updates earlier it worked fine. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is an RC problem, or if something is wrong with my computer. I hope not since this computer is only 2 week old... There is like nothing on it and everything downloaded has been from a disk so no viruses (well except kasperky anti-virus but I HOPE that would be clean lol).

Basically when I put it into sleep manually, I cannot get it out, and my power/reset buttons do not work, I actually need to turn off the electricity.

Oh, and it's not my screen considering I CAN turn my screen on but it goes right back into powersave mode (sleep mode). I DID force it out once, and it said no signal from the computer even though the computer is on. This leads me to believe it is the OS (or god forbid one of my parts).

WAAAAAIIIIIITTTTT I just realized something... I have on HD connected via sata cable, but I took the power away from it (I wanted to hear something). I mean is that the possible cause? I doubt it though since it's not registered as an HD due to having no power... And my sound card light is on, so I'm assuming that is still on when I put the computer in powersave mode... Maybe that's an issue?

A:Windows 7 freezes in sleep mode

Happens to me too... won't come out of sleep mode.
