Preferred Solution: Reset CMD to default settings?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Reset CMD to default settings?

Hello CriticalError,

Could you me more specific on what settings for cmd you want to restore to default?

If you mean the default associations for the .cmd file extension, then you can download and merge the CMD option in the tutorial below to do so.

I've reset Outlook Express to be the default email mail handler several times, but it occasionally reverts to another program after the computer's been shut down and restarted. What's the deal?

A:Default Settings Reset Themselves Sometimes On Restart

What program does it default to. There may be an option in that e-mail client that keeps setting it as the default. If you do not need it or use it then you could probably uninstall it and then set outlook express as the default again.

Let me know whats going on the more details we have, the better we can help.

Thanks Sam.

This morning when I opened my account in Windows XP Home Edition SP3 I found that all my sttings had reverted to default as if I had opened a new account. My account prior to yesterday was on the Start button set at small icons with shortcuts to my most used programs etc. My folders were reset from Windows Classic to Windows XP and all my other personal settings had returned to default. All my folders etc are there and nothing is deleted or such just that all my personal; account settings had reverted to default settings. I checked in Event Viewer and found the following four entries at the time I entered my account. Can anyone tell me what they mean and how to avoid this happening again.

A:My XP account has been reset to default settings somehow?.

This may help explain what WebFldrs XP is and how to install or remove it. I would think that these events are evidence of an update. Unsure why your settings changed but I have seen things like that happen after updates from microsoft,http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/uninstall/...ebFldrs-XP.htmlhttp://www.security-forums.com/viewtopic.php?p=96505http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-854-what-is-webfldrsAt any rate I wouldn't be overly concerned about WebFldrs XP as it seems to be a legitimate application in XP.

hi, I had Windows 10 on pm PC and I tried to reset it to default settings since it was slow, with the option of deleting every file since I had backup elswhere, from Options it didn't work so tried Shift and restart. it seemed to work but at 65% it said it had incounterd a problem and that it had to restart. So I did and it encounterd the very same problem at 65%. So I turend it off with the intent of trying again after it had restarted bu, when I turned it on it started an infinite loop of the HP logo. I tried all suggestions that I found on the HP Forum, disconnected battery+cable, tried resetting BIOS with f9 and saving with f10 but it does not seem to make andy difference. The only thing that I have found is that is sais that "your computer needs to be repaired" and gives me the error code 0xc0000225. I have looked into putting a cd to reset it but a) I don't have the cd b) the computer does NOT have a cd slot.

The computer is an HP tpn-I119 and it came with Windows 8 as default which I upgraded.

I use a program daily that requires certain ActiveX settings to be enabled in order to function. However throughout the day, my system disables these particular settings and I have to manually reinstate them. The ActiveX settings are:

ActiveX controls in Trusted security settings: (These all need to be enabled)
download signed ActiveX
download unsigned ActiveX
initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked safe as scripting

I'm using Windows 7, IE 10.

Is there anything I can do to lock down these settings so they stop getting reset randomly?

A:ActiveX Settings reset to default randomly throughout the day.

Upgrade to IE 11 and see if the issue solves itself in the upgrade process.

Hi,

Absent user-made recovery media the only way to get back to factory state is to order media from support.  Phone # below.

You can get pretty close if you can beg or borrow Microsoft Win 7 install media and follow that with ThinkVantage System Update.  TVSU will download and install the drivers and apps appropriate to your machine.  You won't have an on-disk recovery partition and may lack a few 3rd-party licensed apps (media players maybe).

Alright, so my computer is prone to frequent blue-screening. I do virus-checks and clear out adware and spyware and all, but it still happens. Mostly I just learn to deal with it. That's not the immediate problem, though. Recently my computer crashed and blue-screened whilst attempting to run Firefox and IE at the same time (Yes, I am dumb. Shoot me now.) When I'd finished grumbling and reset the machine, I found that my user account had been reset to default, and that windows was now trying to teach me how to use the start menu. OH GOD.

So, I searched frantically and (thank you all that is holy) found a backup copy of my user settings, and my question now is thus: How do I make these backup files my default settings? Or if this isn't possible, will manually copying everything over destroy anything important?

Ah, and this is on Windows 2000, by the by.

Thank you for your time~!

A:Settings reset to default after blue-screening.

First there is no reason why Firefox and IE cannot run together.

You need to address the blue screens by copying the STOP message regarding the parameters and the driver file if mentioned.

You may have an underlying hardware problem such as bad ram, a failing hard drive, excess heat. Or you may have some non-compliant and incompatible drivers associated with hardware.

The results are symptomatic of registry damage to your User Profile. In such cases Windows may load a default "temporary" profile:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318011

The advice here should apply to Windows 2000 as well as to XP.

This link is Win2k specific regarding User Profiles:

I have a PC that's shared by three people, including myself. Well, the other account was (from what I can tell) reset back to default. Some files such as photos were missing from the desktop but everything else remains intact. Firefox and Chrome are both missing, the only pins on the taskbar were IE, Libraries and Windows Media. Everything runs slowly on that account, I can't run any of my AV programs and I couldn't download anything. I initially suspected a virus although my account is just fine, in fact I'm using it right now - everything is in place, no files, no data missing. Any ideas what may have occurred?

A:Win 7 account reset to default settings, files missing.

I'd like to add, the other user account is not password protected. It's also on a network with two other PCs, both of which require logins. I'm able to run scans on my account, I'm running both AVG and Malware Bytes. So far nothing has been detected.

There is no "reset" for WLM. Why not just go through the "options" and "safety options"? (It's good to become familiar with them.) What problem do you think will be fixed by a reset? You could try a "repair install" via "Programs and Features" but that may preserve the options you have already selected.

Hi guys,

Even the video player settings are reset to default.

Hi,
Yeah, you may think this seems like just a normal message from oc'ing too much, but a problem-I haven't overclocked anything! It booted to that point, then my hard drive went mad clicking and crashed. This was after it being turned on and off to see if my graphics card was booting because I had no video, but it turned out I had just been downright stupid and plugged it into the onboard graphics. Anyone know what could have happened? Thanks

P.S. would the power drawing thing (molex on my case fan) need to have a seperate connector or just draw power from another device? Thanks.

A:'Previous overclock settings failed, default settings enabled'

If this happens just once then I wouldn't worry about it too much but the PSU or HDD could have something to do with it.

You can connect a molex connector fan to its own power connector or you can put it on an optical drive's connector for example, but it's ok to do either as they don't use much power.

Today, again, I got several 'An App Default Was Reset' notifications again, after I went thru great length to stop MS from doing this, up and including a rather Draconian registry patch:

http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/wi...-associations/

Without turning this into a rant, I wish to express, in the strongest possible terms, that I find Microsoft's position in this totally UNACCEPTABLE. They do not decide which programs I use. Period.

This passive-aggressive behavior really needs to come to a halt. There are several threads to be found on the Internet; and everywhere you see MS employees playing dumb, pretending they have no idea what's going on. Cut it out! You wrote Windoze 10, so you know full-well what you've been doing.

I simply never want to see another 'An App Default Was Reset' notification ever again. Isn't there *any* way to stop this horribly invasive behavior?!

If Spybot gives you a warning about a potential Hijacker of your style sheets, it may be indicative of a larger problem. I'd advise you get HijackThis . This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Run the scan, save the log, but do not fix anything yet. Many files it finds are harmless, and required for your system to operate.

Post your log in a new thread in the HijackThis Log Help forum. This our dedicated spyware/virus forum. One of the expert analysts there will look over your log and assist you. Please include a brief description of the problem you are having and what you have done to fix it so far.

Can U delete the whole REGISTRY and still launch XP with I/O functioning ?

Please Help.

Would XP launch with NO REG files ?

A:Registry Default ? Reset ?

No, Every Windows file and program has at least one Registry entry if not dozens or hundreds. No Registry, then you have no Windows. Unless you made a backup of your registry, you cannot set it to default.
Can you explain what is your problem and we can offer some solutions?
Can you boot the computer? If so, go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow put the XP CD in and it will replace any missing System files.
You can also do a Repair Install to replace any corrupted Registry files.

Yet I need help here.

2 why the hell does that folder NOT HIDDEN? Are yours not hidden as well? Of course the option to hide all system file is checked on my pc. The only reason I messed with that folder is because I thought it was just a normal folder and not a system folder. Anyway to get it back to be invisible?

So I created a brand new user in Windows 8 using my MSA. And I set it to set up as a new PC so that it wouldn't carry over themes or any settings from the previous computer. But as soon as I signed in, it had all of my old settings, themes, and configurations from my old computer.

So how do I set it so that it goes back to all the default settings like a brand new user logging into Windows for the first time?

When I was setting up my microphone I set it up so that the mic comes on when the computer starts. I want to reset it so that it doesn't do that and put it in the Quick Launch toolbar / system tray instead where it would be more convenient a la windows XP style.

stop speech recognition at startup windows 8.1
(1) Right click on the speech recognition bar / pop-up and go to configuration
(2) Next click open speech recognition control panel
(3) On the left side you should see advanced speech options click it
(4) Uncheck the Run Speech Recognition at startup and click apply then OK

Still don't know how to get it into the Quick Launch toolbar

About two months ago I thought I would move the "Fax" folders to a directory on my data drive. Like others here I keep my data off the OS drive and backup the drive regularly. I do and don't use the Windows default libraries.

In my next backup of my data drive the backup stopped saying I did not have permission to copy Inbox. To be honest I didn't even relate the two events, me moving the Fax folders and the stoppage. I checked my data drive for a folder called INBOX and couldn't find one. It was no big deal to click on the "Continue" button however I did notice that it was also copying some of my data twice, kind of like including a junction point in the copy. I didn't have to time to resolve so I just kept clicking "Continue" to the permission box.

Today I decided to determine what was going on. Using search and some wildcards, low and behold the Inbox appeared and in the path it stated faxes. I finally put two and two together.

So I thought I would undue what I had done. I started the Fax program, click on Tools, click on Fax Settings, click on Advance tab, clicked on Move Folder. I thought I would put it back to c:\programdata\microsoft\windowsNT\MSfax. I did so and ran a test. It no longer stops at the Inbox but it does stop at "SentItems". Went back and checked, the move folder moves everything and there does not appear to be a way to set individual folder locations.

I want to get them all back to default and I'm not oppo... Read more

A:Want to reset all Windows Fax Folders to Default

Continued working on my issue. It appears all files were reset but as I had directed the files to my data drive they were deleted in the move back. I deleted the Faxes folders I had created in my data drive and the issue cleared.

I guess I could have explored how to provide myself with the necessary permissions. I am logged on as an administrator and when I check permissions my userid was listed.

Lets consider this closed.

I have an HP G60 Laptop, I have made the factory default reset discs, but when i boot the first one up it tells me that my hard drive has insufficient space to perform reset. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this without getting a new hard drive?

Thank You

A:Factory Default Reset Won't Work.

Are you sure the computer booted off the DVD drive? Did you tap (keep tapping) the Escape key and choose your DVD drive to boot?

You can tap the F11 key while booting and get into System Recovery, there should be the option to restore to factory install using the recovery partition, without using the discs you made.

What kinds of problems are you having?

Hi I managed to bungle the appearance settings on my pc.
In some places the buttons are big and fonts big and bold and others it's too small again.
It's driving me insane. I went to Display Settings/Advanced, but it is quite cryptic and dont understand what is what, in fact it just makes things worse when I fiddle there.
Is there any way of resetting everything to default?

and welcome to the Forum

If you have the Dell System restore ( not all Dells do ) you can use that and you will not need a install CD

If not, You can get a reinstallation guide specific to your Dell here

This is a great guide for reinstalling on a Dell: http://www.djdenham.com/Install%20Procedures.htm

You can request a replacement instalation cd here:

A:Home Page Became Reset To Default Value

hello & welcome to TSF ,

just for starters I would like you to do this

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

I have a 5 year old HP Pavilion DV6 laptop that I wish to restore to factory settings in order to give to my nephew.I have either lost or never made system recovery discs. The computer did not come with recovery discs. The computer came pre-installed with Vista. However I have since upgraded it to Win7 with the free upgrade that was offered to me at the time of purchase.  There is a recovery drive D:/ partition on the computer.  However, when I try to perform a system recovery, the HP restore utility can not find the D: recovery partition, nor do I get an option to select it.  How can I reset this computer to factory defaults? Even if it reverts back to Vista, that would be fine, and I could then use the Win7 upgrade disc to return it to 7.  I just need to reset everything back to defaults, and none of the normal recovery methods are working.  PLEASE ADVISE.

Again, providing us with the complete model name and product number (p/n) of the computer in question, will make it easier for us to assist you. As CherylG pointed out... if you are going to install the Windows 7 upgrade, do that first and you won't have to worry about the IE8 on Vista issue. You may have to bring Vista SP1 before upgrading to Windows 7. If you intend on keeping Vista on the computer, you may need to install SP1 or SP2 before IE8 will install. The service packs may not show in Windows Update until other updates have been installed. Even MSE requires that you are running a minimum of Vista SP1 before it will install. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Please click the White KUDOS "Thumbs Up" to show your appreciation

Have a HP notebook that was dropped. Screen destroyed, but otherwise system works fine. Got screen replaced. Now the system will boot to a BLACK SCREEN with a MOUSE CURSOR only. SAFE BOOT same. SAFE BOOT with COMMAND LINE same. Tried booting to VGA resolution - same results. So I can't get to a UI to do anything. Tried Vista recovery disk, but there doesn't seem to be a way to reset the video driver. Have confirmed by replacing the system disk that the screen is fine (installed Windows 7 RC without a hitch on another disk as boot device. Would really like to retain/recover the original boot drive, but I can't boot from it until I can get the video driver to get stupid enough to handle the replacement screen (which appears to be same resolution as the original judging from the Windows 7 test build). Anyone know of a way to reset to the DEFAULT (generic) video driver on a system when you can't get to the UI for it?
