I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

What is on the "Lenovo D: drive"?

Please attach a screen shot of the Disk Management window, as that sometimes helps us understand your issue. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Hi,

I just acquired (for free) a used Lenovo 3000 v100 (T2300, 1.66GHz) running XP Pro SP3. No disks included. I upgraded the memory, repaired the keyboard.Everything runs fine, and I went through both existing user accounts deleting any documents/pictures/music, also uninstalled programs I know I won't use.

Here's the main issue. The hard drive is nominally 100GB. When I click on my computer, it shows that, while the hard drive has 88GB usable, the free space is only 24.9GB. How do I find out what's taking up all the space, and get it back? I haven't yet changed/deleted the user accounts, in case that's the only way to get to the "hidden" files (which, of course, don't show up after telling it to "show hidden files and folders").

I could, of course, discover the Windows Key Code, format,  and reinstall XP (would need to find appropriate drivers, though), but it has some other programs (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, et al) that I would lose and wouldn't be able to replace.

Also, I'd like to be able to remove the games that came with it, which don't show up in "Add or Remove Programs".

More details available if you need them.

Any ideas tor dealing with these issues?

Thanks,
DL

For seeing space/file relationships, try the following:  WinDirStat - http://download.cnet.com/WinDirStat/3000-2248_4-10614593.html .

What is sold as a 100GB hard drive...really only has 88GB of useable space.  See Hard Drive Size Differential - http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=615 .

How do I put the hard drive space used and free space on the Partition C: ? Partition D:\ and Partition E:\ has it but for some reason drive C:\ is missing it doesn't say how much space is used and how much space is free. The GBs are missing

A:How to bring back the amount of free space and used space on a hard drive

I'm a little confused about your question

You can't see how much drive space you have left when viewing your C drive via My Computer, or similar?

If you right-click on My Computer and select Manage, when the new window pops up click on Disk Management from the left hand side. What does that tell you about C drive? Assuming your C drive is actually a hard drive (and not a CD drive or something, though I have never heard of this happening and don't even know if it's possible to have C as your CD drive), you should see details at the top of the screen such as how much space you have left, by percentage of total capacity, as well as GB

I think you need to allocate the free space as a linux swap partition and format it as such.

Setting up a new box, Vista sadly to say. Installed MS Office XP Pro and get the following error when closing MS Word ONLY. Excel saves without any errors.

The disk is full. Free some space on this drive, or save the document on another disk. Try one of the following:
*Close any unneeded documents, programs, and windows.
*Save the document on another disk.

I've moved the file location and same error. I cleaned up the drive including removing all restore point except the last one.

Now this thing has a 250 gig drive but it is also used for security in a mini mart with 8 cameras. There are about 145 Gigs of video from the security cameras on this box. At this time I am just setting it up, no cameras are connected, and the security program hasn't been set up yet. I just moved the files from the old drive to this one. BTW the old drive crashed.

I've tried the detect and repair in MS Word and no help. I have uninstalled MS Office and reinstalled and no help and even went into Properties and set the user up on quota with no limits and still no help.

So now I am at a loss and have no idea what to try next. Really don't want to delete the security files because it took 6 hours to transfer them to this computer and unless all else fails this isn't a option I want to use.

Now on the old box, which had XP Pro this, was not a problem so on Vista it should not be either but then Vista is a MS Software so this is understandable. Actually, the old box had a 15... Read more

A:G470 - Bluetooth not working after installing Windows 10 on G470

Hi ashu2000 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Checking on the Lenovo supported systems list for Windows 10 Upgrade ,  "not listed, it hasn?t been tested for Windows 10 upgrade and is not supported. " for the G570 .

Same reasons why on the support site , drivers for windows 10 is not available.

There are claims that it works ok but some have reported devices and apps not working after the upgrade.
You may check related threads here .

Would there be any yellow or black down arrow marks on the device manager .
If that is the case , then you may want to try checking the hardware ID to download specific driver directly from the manufacturer if the Windows 8.1 version driver would not help.
Example for Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 Driver or use windows updates to install appropriate drivers

On device manager , you may also use built in drivers in Windows 10  doing upgrade drivers and, browse on this pc , let me pick option, and choose recommended ones on the list .

Hope this helps.

Regards

I encountered the BSOD with the problem about atikmpag.sys It seems like I made a wrong choice about deleting it, (solution from internet searching)  and now the Display Adapters doesn't work anymore as you can see in the pictures  after deleting the atikmpag.sys during safe mode, It somehow resolved the problem about the BSOD and my laptop are finally starting properly now the problem is about the resolution, it's not the same anymore, it's too low and somehow the screen is blurry, as you can see at the Graphics section, the maximum resolution I can only choose is 1024 x 768, which is supposed to be 1366 x 768 (HD) if i'm not mistaken,   I need your help on how to fix this I hope i can turn it back to normal., I don't have a CD installer (if it is supposed to have one) to re-install it, and about downloading from other sites I'm a little bit concerned about that so I haven't tried it yet.. and it seems like Lenovo has its own installer... Pls help ASAP

A:Lenovo G470 atikmpag.sys problem

hi jm9327,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

The G470 with a dual GPU (Intel+AMD), uses a muxless driver (this is a custom driver that switches the discrete AMD Graphics to the Intel Graphics to save power). If you have installed a different driver, this may cause system instability (including BSOD).

If you're running on Windows 7, try the following::

1. Follow this guide on how to disable automatic driver installation.
2. Install these drivers in order (reboot if necessary)
(1st)  - Intel Onboard Graphics Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit)
   (2nd)  - AMD Video Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)

When finished, check if the yellow exclamation marks are gone under Device Manager > Display Adapters and observe the screen resolution adjustment and BSOD occurrence.

Let me know how it goes.

(I am only writing this because my parents refuse to listen to me and they want "Lenovo" to help me with this problem.)So I own a Lenovo G470 (Ideapad) that I bought in 2011. About 7 months ago, the laptop's hinges started to become lose and then since 4-5 months, bits and pieces of the laptop case keep falling apart/breaking around the hinges. It was a bit bothersome but nothing too serious. However, last week the laptop's screen became tilted (??) like one hinge/side is up and the other is down. It's almost diagonal. And the wire connecting to the laptop screen is exposed (i dont know how) maybe because the hinge's piece broke so the wire is exposed and it's almost on the verge of breaking too. (Ill be attaching the pics of the laptop below.)My warranty expired ages ago. But I dont mind paying for the repair. Is there a way if I contact a real Lenovo store nearby and ask them to "repair" my broken laptop. My parents would rather spend 80-140 dollars repairing this than buy me a new 700/800 dollar laptop.Honestly, if some of you wanna tell me that this laptop is beyond repair, believe me I know! My parents refuse to listen to me -_- So this is just to prove them Im right. FRONT:- https://imgur.com/4viSonH- https://imgur.com/D1pX3I0LEFT SIDE:- https://imgur.com/IKEdGI4- https://imgur.com/L6HmMPw- https://imgur.com/7qk0CMm- https://imgur.com/j5usW0nRIGHT SIDE:- https://imgur.com/wjONWoE- https://imgur.com/peerlHE- https://imgur.com/JU81ZrI- https://imgur.com/gvsWs5S- https... If you think you have a flat tire do you keep on going until the tire disintegrates and you destroy the rim? That's what you did to your own laptop. You should've taken action as soon as you noticed something is happening with the hinge. There's not much you can do right now to fix it. Only thing I'd advise is to find a broken one online with the body intact (at least when it comes to the bottom part and hinges). e.g. with a smashed screen and make a transplant. Have it done by a professional if you can't do it on your own.

After spending an inordinate amount of time searching the internet about my problem, and then contacting Lenovo (who told me it was hardware and I needed to return all of the laptops I bought), I managed to magically find the solution to my problem.  Since it wasn't documented elsewhere on the internet, I thought I'd create a post for it here. The problem I was having was that my Lenovo G470 laptop did not display Press F2 to Enter Setup during the boot process, and because of this, no amount of hammering the F2 button would allow access to the BIOS.  I attempted all of the standard fixes, pulled the battery, held power down for 30 seconds, removed the HDD -- nothing would cause this to appear.  Since it was happening on all 3 of the G470s we just purchased, I didn't believe it was hardware.  I reached out to Lenovo Premium Support, and after about 3 minutes of discussion, "Paul" informed me that all three machines were defective and would have to be sent back in for repair, and it would take 4-6 weeks for repair and diagnosis.   As I had been noodling around with the machines for a few days, ONE of the three ended up showing the bios options during the boot process.  At that point, I had been hitting just about every single key on the keyboard during the boot process, so I couldn't identify what it was that I did that caused the options to appear.  A little more troubleshooting and I figured it out: Lenovo G470 machines equip... Hi everyone,
I installed Ubuntu on my computer a few months ago and created another partition for it on my 1TB hard drive.

I didn't really care for Ubuntu so I decided to delete the partition it was on.
That might have been a mistake.

Well, now there's 87.68GB of free space on my hard disk that I can't use and I don't know how to add it back to my c: partition.

There was another post about this a couple years ago, but I don't understand the instructions and am not actually sure if it worked. Can someone explain how to do this, please?

I'm not completely computer illiterate, but I'm not familiar with partitioning disks. It was just the one time with Ubuntu.

The unallocated area is actually an empty extended partition. You need to delete that first.

My NTFS non-system partition is now almost well defragmented. However this applies only to small and medium sized files.

There are still approx 40 big files (> 1 GB) which cannot be defragmented because there is no free single (!) space slot where they fit in.

So I need a way to shift all occupied clusters to get free contigous space on my hard disk.
Currently about 150 GB is be free on my partition but divided into thousand of individual chunks.

I tried now half a dozend of defragmenters.
Sad but true: NO (!) one was able to perform this easy operation.

Can someone recommend me a real defragmenter which is able to perform such a "shift" operation?

Thank you
Peter

A:How to shift all free space on hard disk to get contigous free space?

I'm not sure exactly what you have and exactly what you are trying to do.

I personally use Windows 7 built in defrag and have found nothing better.

Windows 7 will put things like Windows 7 wants and needs things put.
The Windows 7 defrag or 3rd party defrag programs doesn't care where you want things put or what order you want them.

As far as I know you will have no control over such things.
You are obviously using a 3rd party defrag tool because you are watching the little colored squares and noticing what looks like free spaces between things. Why things are defragged in the fashion they are I really don't know.
What I do know is Windows 7 defrag put things in the order that Windows 7 wants them and that is what counts.

Hi! I used to be able to burn CDs without any problem...for some reason it doesn't work anymore and I've tried quite a few things after troubleshooting by searching for solutions on-line. When I insert my CD which already has a few files on it, the details shows that there is no free space but yet only 3.43MB of data on it (it should go up to 700MB). I'm therefore unable to burn more data and I've tried the same with a blank CD, it says the same (no free space even though there is nothing on the CD yet). I have already tried uninstalling the driver and it didn't fix the problem. When I right-click Properties for the drive and go to Recording tab, the 'enable CD recording on this device' is checked as it should be. Can someone point me in the right direction? THANK YOU

It's my first post here and apologies if this has been answered recently; I did a search but didn't find anything. I have a Dell Dimension 8250/Pentium 4 running Windows XP with Service Pack 2. My hard drive is 120 GB and I have it partitioned with my c: being 8 GB, using NTFS format.

The problem is that I only have a few hundred meg of free space on c: even though I do not install any programs nor save any data to it. I have done all the usual things; emptied the recycle bin, deleted temp files, even moved my ServicePack files to another partition. I purchased Partition Magic in the hopes of making c: larger but I get a warning saying that c: may be unbootable if I do so.

SO... I have a few questions:
1) If I increase the size of c: beyond 8 GB, will my drive really become unbootable if using NTFS and Windows XP or is this only a problem with NT?
2) How can I free up more space on c:? Both hubby and I have separate log-in profiles so under c:\documents and settings we both have all sorts of files with application data for various programs that are installed on other partitions. Do these need to stay on c: and if not, how do I move them?
3) Some programs, for example my HP printer driver, do not allow me to choose which drive on which to install, so they end up on c. Is there any way to force these to install onto other partitions?
4) Can I move my Fonts folder to another partition and how do I access it there?

Hello,
I have a Lenovo laptop that has 3 drives - C, Q and S.

S is called: SERVICEV003 and shows 380 MB free of 1.46 GB.
Q is called: Lenovo and shows 3.76 MB free of 9.76 GB.
C is called: SW_Preload and shows 13.5 GB free of 137 GB.

I found a question in your forum that was dated in March 29, 2010 that is similar to the one I'm going to ask. My C drive was just showing in the red and I followed the steps in the March 2010 to delete temp files and whatnot. Now, I even did the HiJack this download and have a copy of the file that it created. I would like to know what I can delete from this file, gaining me more space on my C drive.

Hello
i have got 2 partitions one with 800GB (D) and one with 130GB (C) and here is also where the windows is installed, now i have only got 8GB of space left on C and as i looked whats taking all the space there because i got only one game mode installed there that take 9GB of space (In "Users" folder) and i found out that my windows folder weigh is almost 80GB that crazy.
someone have good options of how to clear some space?
I am also using Ccleaner and Disk Cleanup from the properties on the partition.
between the last time i formatted my computer was before 4-5 years so i think this is the only solution but i would like to hear other options before i will do that.
Thanks for helping

A:i have no more free space on my drive

Can I ask why you put Windows on the smaller partition? And why make the partition for Windows so small? I'm not being mean, I'm just simply inquiring. What do you put on the other partition? Can you just buy another 1TB HDD to throw in there(around $40), and just unpartition the first HDD and dedicate that one to Windows and the 2nd one to storage?

Hi, I have tried all the usual things to free up space on my harddrive and not much changes. I've deleted old files, removed programs, deleted temp files, disc clean up, everything and I still have no free space 2.31 GB... what can I do?? I need more space.

A:no free space on drive c

Hello corrina87,

After running the usual apps (disk cleanup, defragmentation) and uninstalling unused

programs you find that you still don't have enough HDD space it maybe time to consider

upgrading or adding another HDD either internally or by an external drive.

I have acer aspire 5100 laptop. And I was wondering if there is a way that the c drive can be ran with the d drive to have more hard disk space. If not then is there a program that will clean the c drive from all previous programs that have been uninstalled but still take up space that can`t be regained? I have dual prossesor with two hard disk. Windows Vista home premium.

A:C drive low on free space

Try using ccleaner (im my signiture) to try and clear up some space. You can combine the D drive but make sure its not a recovery partition. To combine them go to start and look in the search for "disk managment" but make sure you know what you are doing :D

also check the recycle bin make sure that you get rid off all that you dont need

I need to find out how to free up space on my C Drive. Right now I only have 2% free. I tried to run my disk defragmenter, but I got a warning that it needs 15% in order to run properly. My disk cleanup dosen't seem to work for me either. I'm thinking I should delete or move some stuff on my C Drive, but I'm not sure what the best way is for me to do this. I don't want to accidently delete something important, but I'm sure I have stuff on there that I'm not useing and don't need
I appear to be running 32-bit, Windows 2000 Professional, Service Pack 4v5.0.2195, if this is helpful to know.

I sure would appriciate some info to help me with this, please.

Hello,

I have an issue that likely has already been covered, yet the solutions I've found / tried have not given me the desired results.

About 4 months ago I had an issue with my C drive filling up. I ran through some solutions such as reducing the amount of space taken up by System Restore, by Recycle Bin. I've cleared out the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. Not too long ago I was at about 4 Gb of free space. Any software installs are done to the D or F drives but still I'm in the space issue scenario.

Statistics of my Computer:

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3, 32 bit
Processor: Intel Pentium III Xeon processor, x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 2013 Mb
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 3470 - Dell Optiplex, 512 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 66125 MB, Free - 0 MB; D: Total - 86451 MB, Free - 7903 MB; F: Total - 953867 MB, Free - 771767 MB;
Motherboard: Dell Inc., 0M858N
Antivirus: McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, Updated: No, On-Demand Scanner: Enabled

The C drive was at 7 Mb of free space, but when I deleted files the free space actually went down. My F drive is an external USB drive.

I only have 7 root folders on my C drive. The Windows folder of course takes up the bulk of the space at 53.5 Gb. The other big one is Program Files at 8.8Gb. Any thoughts on where the space goes? I don't even do anything and the space decreases.

Thanks.

I have the Alienware M14XR2 with an i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz and 12 GB of ram but my C drive is completely filled up. My C Drive has 40.8 gigs of memory total and less than 1 gig is available. I have a solid state drive installed that has more than enough memory for me but it seems like my OS and everything that I have is taking up all the room on my C Drive causing everything to slow down. I'm not tech illiterate but I am not great with computers. With that in mind, what would be the best way to free up space on my C Drive and is there a way to make things download to my D Drive instead of my C Drive. I get messages saying there isn't enough space on my C Drive to install programs which is insanely annoying. I have moved to my D Drive all my music and a few pictures but that didn't free up THAT much space. Help me please...I'm desperate.

I have only 5% free space on C Drive. I dumped Big Fish games totally, all but one game on Wild Games, Firefox, (I kept IE & Safari) Dumped a lot of stuff off the desk top, removed a lot of big sites from Bookmarks I've run C Cleaner reg clean, & Malware Bytes. I am including my Hijack results. I'm pretty sure I need to dump a bunch of stuff from registry, but I know nothing about what is safe to remove. Hi guys,

I recently acquired a legit copy of windows and i have SP2 installed. However, I end up only having 635 mb of space on C drive. I dunno if this is the forum. If not, mods please move?

I recently had to reinstall windows because of an infection. I reformatted the C drive during installation. Would that have anything to do with it?

Thanks guys!

I was having some issues while spending time with some friends via the internet (primarily while playing Left 4 Dead 2), and my computer kept on freezing and locking up. I think it might be due to too much space on my computer being taken up, thus making it to where my computer didn't have enough space to play Left 4 Dead 2. I think I'm attaching a picture of what the My Computer screen looks like.

Yes, I know this isn't a pressing matter, but I do occasionally want to have fun with my family, and this is one of the only ways, as naturally some of my family lives in a different state. Anyway, I need some help, seeing as how I'm not very computer-wise, and have no clue what's going on. Suggestions?

Hi all.
i have installed 7 SP1 32bit on my Dell Inspiron 1520

My installation drive C is totally 18.5 Mb and have 4.5 M.b free space.

Is that enough free space or should i increase the size of the drive ?

A:How much free space for drive c ?

My installation drive C is totally 18.5 Mb and have 4.5 M.b free space. Is that after installation Windows7 or ...........?When you have this after installation than is this in theory enough. But you must not forget, that when you work with Windows and other programs, that Windows and the other stored data on your drive and than is 4.5 mb not enough. My advice in this: Delete older programs what you don't use anymore or buy a new hd with more store space. When you had 20 mb free space than was this in practical enough, but now, I am sorry.

This is a somewhat unusual post for me, as I've posted several HJT logs here in the past when I've needed help and I've received excellent help, therefore, I thought that this might be the best place to ask this particular question.

My hard drive has lately been, quite frankly, nearly full...fluctuating between 800mb and 1.2 Gb free (on a 20 Gb drive. It just doesn't seem possible to me).

Tonight I've gone through and deleted/moved a lot of things I knew for sure that I could, thus getting the amount of free space close to 1.5 Gb. In my quest for more, I looked at my add/remove programs menu and found:

3 different copies of Microsoft .net Framework (2.0 Service pack 2, 3.0 Service pack2, and 3.5 sp1), The first two of which take up nearly 400MB.

Also, 3 different copies of MSXML 4.0 SP2, although the files sizes appear to be comparatively negligible.

Are those seemingly repeat programs absolutely necessary, or can I uninstall any of them to free up a bit more space?

Also, I could apparently free up another half-gig by deleting my backup files for Win98. I've considered it, but I fear that sure as I do, I'll have XP probs again and be in deep trouble.

A:Trying to free space on hard drive

if you are using XP why keep Windows 98 files ? also download crapcleaner and run the cleanup program to clean out wasteful temp files... also if you have an external harddrive move as many data files word, excel, Jpeg picture files to the external drive and delete them from your 20 Gig internal harddrive.
