I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I installed Windows 8 on Christmas Day and I skipped the email account setup parts. I never used any APPS yet, in fact I removed everything app-related from my start screen including notifications, etc.

I have used the Classic Shell so far, but today I thought I'd set up the Live email account login.

While I was setting up the app account I kept getting emails from the live account manager to confirm what I was doing and I confirmed each one.

The last thing it asked to 'Trust this PC'. I did so and my machine name appeared on my Microsoft account profile page under "Trusted PC".

But when I restarted I could no longer log in with my local account or the new Live email account.

I logged in as Administrator and saw that my local account name was changed from my username to <[email protected]>, my live account ID. It would not allow Administrator to change the account name or my password.

I tried to log in with the email and Live password, but it said I could not log in with his PC and that I need to resolve the issue with the live account on-line.

I had a password reset disk (USB drive) and I used it. It started up the reset wizard and I put back my old password. It finished with no error but I still could not log in.

Finally, I logged in as Administrator and restored my Acronis system image from yesterday. Then everything was back to normal.

I have no idea what happened, I was very careful doing each of these steps.

A:Setting up Live email account 'destroyed' my local account

What exact steps did you take when creating the live account?

Was this a new account? or did you use the switch to a Microsoft account?

I could not tell you what happened.

I have several Local and Live accounts on my system for testing, and I do not have Live Essentials installed
All of my accounts work perfectly. And across PC's, as I have a desktop also setup with a couple of different and same accounts.

It is possible that Chrome caused an issue. and it is possible you need Live Essentials to use chrome properly. I don't know as I forbid Chrome being installed on any of my PC's.

Hello all.

I did try to look up previous threads on this, but I'm not sure if I probably need to post my own. But I think my live email account was hacked. It sent a message to a friend of mine with a string of numbers and attachment from me as the sender. A week prior, I had gotten a spam email from his wife... on a different account (but the one that was connected to my live account as the backup email... for some reason, I have noticed that the two emails connect?) Well, maybe that wasn't the reason for it.

But I went from a different computer and changed the password as well as the backup email. I have fun SuperAntiSpyware (getting two insights, gravity tracking cookies)... Malicious Software Removal Tool (getting nothing)... a quickscan with my Symantec.... getting nothing.

So I'm not sure what to do. I am concerned, is this something that can infect my other accounts?

I am trying to set up a Microsoft account to access Cortana, but MS keep on rejecting my password because of unacceptable characters. The password I want to use (I will change it) is Wacfr0[Live0] - it has at least 2 upper case characters, at least 2 lower case characters, at least 2 numerals, and at least 2 special characters, is more than 8 characters long, and is less than 16 characters long. According to Microsoft, the square brackets are permissible special characters. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with the password? Banging head on wall time.

You don't need to close your account. Just create another strong password. It doesn't even need to be something you could easily remember. Write it down or use LastPass or something so that you don't have to spend all day typing it in / remembering it.

I'm trying to close an outlook.live.com email account that keeps crashing Thunderbird.

But the instructions I found on the web don't match what I see on the outlook.live.com web site.

I've tried to upload screenshots to photobucket, but I can't get the upload to work, so I've attached the screenshots to this message.

First, look at the attachment titled "Close Outlook Account Web Image" which is a screenshot from the instructions I found on the web. The instructions read: "click on the gear icon in the upper-right...choose ?More mail settings'"

Then look at the attachment titled "Close Outlook Account What I See." As you can see, "More mail settings" doesn't appear on that drop-down menu.

I'd be grateful if someone reading this could point me to a set of instructions that match what I'm seeing at the outlook.live.com web site.

I'm having some troubles figuring out how the new Windows 8 user account works.
I currently have two MS accounts on my pc - lets say account1 and account2. I've set a password that I regularly use so I didn't forget it. I couldn't sign in on either account.

I initially created a new Microsoft Account with my internet providers' emailbox ([email protected]). After signing off and back on, it seemed I couldn't sign in anymore. So I went to account/reset/password and reset my password. That didn't work. Then I went to change the password for account2 which is a @hotmail.be account. To my surpise, I couldn't login to account2, but I could login to account1 with the password i changed for account2 :s

I'm happy I've managed to log in, but the problem is that Windows 8 asks me to sign in to my MS Account with my most recent password before I can download apps from the store, view email/messaging, etc. Not any of the passwords I've used are accepted, the message keeps coming back and I can't do anything with W8 UI.

Can somebody please explain why this is happening?

A:Windows 8 Live-ID / Microsoft account hassle

I've solved the problem.

I deleted account1 including the MS account linked to it.
I recreated account1 including the MS account and logged in.
Finally I deleted account2.

Is there any way to troubleshoot a MS Account? When I attempt to sign in to live.com locations involved with Insider access, I am greeted with "Something Went Wrong" at the sign in, and I can't proceed. Some MS account sites, like the actual home page for my MS Account will let me sign in, but even there, it looks as though some "sensitive" information like account balance and purchases "couldn't be accessed".
Frustrated with this behavior, I created a new user (admin) and proceeded to open a MSA account for this phantom. No problem! I can get into sites that are denied to the "real me". The trouble is that I can't interact with the apps and programs that are accessible under my real login. Can I remove my original "real" login, rebuild it, and still maintain access to the array of programs that has taken much time to build up? What other strategies might work?

During the night my windows desktop with Win8.1 pre-release was update to Win8.1 release.
Of course it deleted my Favorites in IE & updated to IE11.
It also deleted all my contacts in Mail.

However when I logged into my other desktop using my MS account, it updated IE Favorites & Mail contacts to 0.

I had this info on my portable & put this info on a thumb drive.
SURPRISE there is no way to import or export this info into IE11 or Mail.

Is there something I missed on this procedure?

I was under the impression that I had control of my computer & not MS!

A:Using microsoft Email account to log-in

Hello Tully,

Your IE Favorites are stored in your C:\Users\(user-name)\Favorites folder. You could just copy and paste the backup of your Favorites into this folder to restore them.
Internet Explorer - Import and Export Favorites - Windows 7 Help Forums
The Mail and People apps work together, so if you added an Outlook.com or Exchange account, your contacts are automatically added to the People app. For all other accounts, you need to add the same email accounts to the People app to get your contacts, just like you did in the Mail app.

Mail App - Add an Account in Windows 8.1

People App Accounts - Add or Remove in Windows 8
Hope this helps,

I recently set up an account with my school's email system. When I try to log in, it lets me log in to the general area, and then when i try to access my inbox, i'm directed to sign into windows live. I hate windows live, I want it to die in a fire, I don't have an account with windows live, and so I can't access my school email. I have uninstalled everything windows live-related, and have double checked that I didn't tell my school email account to open in a pop server (since you need to be able to access the email account to set it up, i'm sure I haven't done that). I changed my defaults in firefox to open emails with gmail, but it still goes to windows live. Any ideas?

A:email account defaults to windows live sign in

Contacting your school IT section to access your mail would be the go, as they can only give you access if you are allowed to have access remotely, then they will set it up for you, IF you have permissions to do so.

If you are talking about a computer at the school that is assigned to you, then you still need to contact them, to sort this.

I agree with you about Windows Live Mail though but that is just my personal opinion.

I held out and downloaded Windows 10 on the last day it was going to be free. I?ve been having some email issues ever since. Some have been solved; one has been a toothache.

Although Microsoft wants to wean people off of Windows Live Mail in favor of the built in mail interface in Windows 10, I want to keep using WLM.

I need two email accounts set up on WLM. One I have set, a IMAP account (a Time Warner Roadrunner account) which is working properly and the other an outlook.com email account which isn?t. (All the settings on the two accounts are IDENTICAL with the exception of the server names)

The OUTLOOK account is also set a IMAP and the setting are correct as I can send and receive emails?both properly going through the proper server and being able to be read in my hand held device and on the outlook.com web site.

The problem is I can?t get folders to populate in WLM on that account, so I can?t see (read) incoming mail from there, nor do I have a SENT folder to verify that my emai ?went.?

The step which I can not get to happen in to ?DOWNLOAD FOLDERS?, i.e. the ?Inbox?, ?Drafts?, ?Sent Items?, ?Junk E-mail?, and ?Deleted Items? folders.

There is a link to click to download those folders (?Windows Live Mail needs to download the folders before you can read the messages in this account. To download the folders, click DOWNLOAD link?)but it churns and churns and churns then finally times out with an error message that reads:

My mum has got a new computer, and it has Vista on it and therefore has Windows Live Mail. She is used to outlook express and I just check my emails from a website rather than a programme like this, so i am not accustom to them. Live Mail will not let her sign in to her account. It says the email or password is incorrect. Both are correct as they will work on the website. I have checked all the property setting and they are correct and even tried setting the incoming settings to private as suggested on the website. I have now noticed it will send emails if i go to start then hover over windows live mail, then select send new message. This will send a message from her email. Yet when Live Mail is opened up it and send and receive pressed it says password/email incorrect.
Any suggestions please.

Well here is the thing, I can log into the legion email, but I cannot log into the carefree email.

The first account logs in normaly it says something strange in the lower left like connecting to snt26.server etc... when I try to connect to the legion account and it works. The carefree account says in the address bar or tab connecting to snt126.server, but in the lower left it says connecting to snt109.server swt109.server, and for 3 days it has timed out. It will never connect.

The carefree one is my business email and the email I primarily use, and for some reason it's not letting me go in there at all, anyone have any ideas, and no I didn't block any sites and even if I did, there is no reason why one email would work and one won't. But I've hit try again about 30 times now, and it just ain't working.

My friend's cheapo six year old computer died yesterday. Her son had an extra computer he's not using at the moment and he is giving it to her. It's running Windows 10, and when he set it up, he used his email and did that Microsoft account option.

I am new here and just purchased a laptop with Windows 7 on it and Windows Live Mail already installed.
My previous laptop (still up and running, but mainly just to check emails now) had Outlook Express and was set up many years ago when it was new.
Do I need to completely close down or delete the Outlook Express before I open up a new account in Windows Live Mail with the same email address?
I've tried opening up and putting server details, username/password into Windows Live Mail - and it's accepted it.
However when I go to send/receive mail - it keeps asking me to log in and give my password, and that it's incorrect - when I know it is actually correct?

Am I doing something wrong here? Or how can I open up my emails on my new laptop via Windows Live Mail?

I have Microsoft Security Essentials running as my antivirus protection.

I am hopeful I am doing something very silly and someone might be able to help me with this, as I'm not very computer minded - simple instructions please if anyone has suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Since you're using Windows 7 for WLM and OE for XP they can't simultaneously be on the same PC. However both programs can be set up on their respective PCs at the same time; just keep in mind that if you download your mail on one PC you won't see it on the other afterwards unless you choose the option to "keep mail on server".

If OE is working, look carefully at every tab of Account Properties and set up WLM the same way. WLM is the replacement for OE for Windows 7 and will work if set up the same.

So, how do I make sure that, at the end of these procedures, the account name back to being what had been changed by me?

I bought a new laptop and it arrived yesterday. It runs Windows 8.1
I tried to log into my microsoft account, but it kept coming up with the error code 0xd0000072 and said it wasn;t able to switch from my local account to my microsoft account.
After googling it, I tried different options, such as flushing out the proxy even though I don't run on proxy, I disabled McAfee to make sure it wasn't the firewall, I signed into live and removed all trusted devices, I tried downloading the troubleshooter, which
told me my problem was that I didn't have a Microsoft account - super helpful.
Nothing seems to be working.
I then went on to trying to make a new microsoft account, but the error code still came up after all that hassle too.
I eventually called it a night and decided I could probably just get by without it, however, when I tried to download software to install my printer, it wouldn't let me because I cannot seem to log in to my Microsoft account.

If the account was closed then the messages are likely gone. Unless you have them stored in an email program on your computer such as Outlook, Live Mail, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, or something similar.

Hi I am David, this is my problem, I let someone setup my Laptop which has Windows 8.1 Installed on it, My Problem is I want to Identify if this guy enter an email address to create my local account, How can I Identify or change that in my laptop?
Or is it possible to create a local account in Windows 8.1 without adding an Microsoft Account on my Laptop, ?

I just discovered this scenario when my mother wants to have her own local account on my laptop, and I discovered that to be able to add another local account, it should have an email account

Please help guys, I am very new in Windows 8.1, I am just worried that someone is spying on me because he added an email address that I don't know, God Bless

I also attached a screenshot in my laptop, to help this problem to be solved, I hope someone can Identify if this local account already has an email address?

A:Windows 8.1 Microsoft Email Account Required

Hi David welcome to 8 Forums, You are using a local account otherwise it would show an Email address under your account name.

To add another local account, go to Other accounts and look on the bottom:

User Account - Add a New User in Windows 8
Is this what you mean?

I have a personal email address ([email protected], for example) which I would like to use for my Microsoft account. When I try to do this I get errors similar to:

"You can't use @stuff.me in your Microsoft account email address. Please try a different email address."

depending on which site I'm trying to do this on (xbox.com, microsoft.com, etc.). Normally I really wouldn't have a problem with Microsoft doing it's own thing, but if I'm supposed to use this account on my personal computer now (with Windows 8 just over the
horizon), why am I not allowed to use the email that I want to use?

The better question is, how do I get around this? I've noticed restrictions and questions are different depending on which Microsoft site you try to create your account on. Is there a way to make an account using my personal email? Or a way to make my personal
email the primary one after creating the account?

(Before anyone asks, I'm using a gmail account to post this.)

I just installed Windows 8 on my laptop to try it out. During the setup process I was asked to enter my Microsoft account details and as I do have files stored on Sky Drive I put in the same details. The problem is that the account I seem to have created refers to an old Hotmail address that I no longer use so all the contact links for example are very outdated. I see that it's not possible to change the email address on your Microsoft account.
Should I re-install W8 and set up a new Microsoft account, which means presumably no access to my Sky Drive files from that machine; or perhaps move all the files out (long process!). Or any better ideas?
I'm already not liking the way MS is trying to make me link into all its own stuff BTW, like Bing!

My husband wants to setup his email address that he uses for work on our personal computer through microsoft outlook. He uses outlook to view his email on work computer. His company is web based. They do not have a specific server that his email goes through.

Can anyone tell me how to set up his email account on outlook on our personal computer?

A:setup email account on microsoft outlook

Maybe your husbands company can give you a software that enables you to check the e-mail through Outlook.

Good Luck!

I have an email account that has been deleted at the server. I want to keep all the emails both in and out that have accumulated over the past year or so preferably where they are now without exporting elsewhere. At the moment everytime I open Windows Live mail it tries to connect to this email account and I need to cancel the "Confirm password" to bypass the connection. How can I cancel the connection attempt?

A:Retain emails on a cancelled email account on Windows Live Mail

Mitchell mate I have gone over to Thunderbird - it can be configured just like WLM (GUI) and as long as you are keeping your accounts - mine for example are hotmail and the local provider bigpond - TB will import all the mails I used to have in WLM.

I may not be understanding exactly what you want but seeing WLM is being made redundant and I am NOT a fan of Outlook I am now with TB I thought I would try it and it works really very well.

I've been using Windows 10 for weeks. Until today, it started up just fine by displaying my name and no email address. This is exactly how I want it to be.

Today when Win 10 would not recognize a printer, in order to download an "app" to help with this, I was required to provide a Microsoft email account, which I did (an old Hotmail account I rarely use). Now when I restart or wake up the computer, that old Hotmail account appears as "Administrator". However, I do NOT want that old Hotmail email address associated with this computer.

How can I remove it and get back to logging in with NO associated email address?

NOTE: I do not want to delete the old Hotmail account; just want to remove it from my Windows 10 "Account" menu (My name + Hotmail address + "Administrator").

In case it's required to associate Win 10 with an email address, I use Windows Live Essentials with a company email address. I tried adding it via the "Other Account" option, but Win 10 said it did not recognize the email address I entered, sigh.

I saw threads with a similar question but not quite the same.

Thanks for any help!

Upgraded from Windows 7 to Win 10 and was loving it (was). Saw there was a mail app and thought that would be pretty handy. Signed in and since then, I have to log in to my PC as my email address and password.

I don't want that.

How do I revert my existing user back to a non-Windows live user, with a normal, local account and password?

I am happy to not use the Mail app if that's what it takes, but my concern is that the profile I have now has all my icons and docs and stuff and I don't want to go through the hassle of copying over the profile.

There must be a way to undo this change, but I can't find it.
