[UPDATE] Battery Firmware Update Disconnected Battery on Z400 Touch, Now Won't Charge

Q: [UPDATE] Battery Firmware Update Disconnected Battery on Z400 Touch, Now Won't Charge

Hello, Lenovo Community, I recently tried updating my battery's firmware. It was going smoothly for about one minute until my charger disconnected and my laptop's battery died and will not charge. My charger has a long history of automatically disconnecting (two blinking lights, one white and one orange) so I cannot power my laptop through the charger itself. I really don't want to get the port checked, so I am looking to see if there are any other ideas from the community. Here is what's happening:-My charger disconnects everytime I try to boot now (used to disconnect before loading Windows 10)-My battery is disconnected from the system (electronically, not physically probably)-I really cannot power on the system. Thank you, Lenovo Community! [UPDATE] I'm (99%) going to replace the DC power jack! Any ideas about how to get the battery connected again?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello Lenovo Community!I own an Ideappad Z400 Touch and I had issues with trying to charge it. Obviously I turned to the forums here and I found a possible solution here. When I tried to perform a battery firmware update, it went smoothly and then suddenly turned off and had a fast flashing orange light. Obviously I knew my battery and/or charger let me down in the middle of the process. I'm kind of scared because I don't know what to do nor have the money to afford a new laptop. What most likely happened to the battery is that it got "electronically disconnected" and technically only relies on the AC adapter which now I have found out is pretty screwed up and stops charging once Windows actually boots up. Is there any way to fix this? Please help! Thank you and have a wonderful evening!

I am dual booting Windows 10 and Linux (Ubuntu 17.10). I was on Windows 10 when I was updating my battery firmware using the Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Tool. It prompted me to update my battery and I confirmed and clicked next. Immediately, my screen turned black. I waited 10 minutes and then did a force shutdown on the computer by holding the power button. Now my battery won't charge. It is an official 55+ Lenovo battery and last week Ubuntu's acpi said that the battery was at 67% capacity and could run on battery for an hour and a half at full charge. Now all of a sudden, after the failed firmware update, my battery will not charge: whether the laptop is on in Windows 10, on in Ubuntu, or while the computer is turned off and plugged. When I do connect the AC cord the battery indicator blinks with a steady green, to a stready orange, to a rapid orange, and then off within a span of ~10 seconds. I have tried deleting the battery drivers on Windows and restarting and it does not work. I have also tried to update the battery firmware again using the Lenovo Update Firmware Tool but it repeatedly gives me the same error "The tool was unable to update the battery firmware due to an internal error." I have also updated to the latest BIOS to no avail.

Hi CuriousFox ,

Greetings.

To isolate fastest is to have another battery to use or charging the original battery on a known working compatible laptop.
The power checkout guide of the hardware machine manual provides steps to check battery charging integrity (example form Z510 manual page 21) .

You can also try plugging the laptop but not turning it on for 1-2 hours checking if there would be changes with the battery indicator LED.

Would it be the same using similar energy manager and operating system that came originally with the machine?
How is the battery health and battery report?

Update us how it goes.

Regards

I have two Lenovo Y40-70 computers that I purchased within a couple weeks of each other.  They came with Windows 8.1 but I upgraded to Windows 10. A few months ago, I noticed that my computer battery meter was reading 100% for an hour.  I continued to work unplugged until the battery died while still reading 100%.  I recharged and the battery again read 100% for more than a couple hours, then died.  So the battery lifetime is as good as always, but the reading is not right.  When I reboot, it still reads 100%. Strangely, the second system, whcih I had not used for a while, was OK, but a few days later, it started doing the same thing (though it was reading 87%, the charge when the computer last worked right.  I suscpect that this happened after a critical update, which the second system went through later. Recently, I downloaded from the Lenovo website the newer power management software on both computers, and it did not help. Then I noticed the Battery recall so downloaded the "Lenovo Battery Utility 2015" to see if my system was afffected by the problem.  When I run the utility, I get the mssage "No Battery Detect."  So it would appear that there may be an issue with the software detecting the batter. Since I can't know the state of the battery (it appears to not want to recharge until it's empty, I gues because it thinks it's 100% charged), I cannot count on this computer when it's not plugged in. Now I ... Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

Hi there,
I think that my netbook (Toshiba NB550D-111, Win7 Starter) may have powered off during Windows Update as now it will not get past the green loading bar with "Microsoft Corporation" underneath. It gives an option to start Windows normally or to load repair files but both end up stuck on the green loading bar. Safe mode (all options) gets as far as classpnp.sys then freezes.

Using a different laptop I made a Window Repair Disk and then copied the files over the a USB (netbook has no CD Drive) as per the online guides. When the USB is booted the repair files load, there is a blinking cursor then it's back into the green loading bar. Safe mode (all options) gets stuck on disk.sys with the USB inserted.

Found some threads with similar symptoms with most being caused by a dodgy HD connection (checked, nothing obviously disconnected) or the wrong SATA mode selected in the BIOS (seems to make no difference between ACHI or Compatible). I then tried a live Linux USB to replace the classpnp.sys file with another from a working (different specs) laptop, this led to the same results.

I have not waited longer than 15 min at the green loading bar and I don't have any installations disks. If anyone has experienced this before or can give any pointers they'd be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hello! I have an x250 notebook.Capacity of my internal battery flows down. Some time i opened lenovo power manager and checked battery. Internal battery is full charged with 12,18V, but external battery is full charged with 12.68V.It is very strange for me. As i know there is no li-ion battery with <4.2V full charge.I recalibrated the battery, no changes.Ok, It is possible that one li-ion battery has lower voltage then other two ones. I checked the voltage - 4.07. 4.07, 4.05 it is great result!Batteries are not charged fully, so capacity is lower then it should be. I found battery FW update for some lenovo notebooks, but i didn't find it for x250.Can you help me?

Seems like internal battery memory was corrupted due to flashing interruption.
I assumed the root cause is internal software error.

I've tried the same on Windows 7/8/XP with all LnvBFU revisions (from v1.2 till v1.15) without any success.

But LnvBFU.exe still recognizes the battery, it still able to start flashing.
And I still have hope to install battery software correctly.

Dear Lenovo experts:
1. Please provide steps to correct this error.
2. Please advise how can I get logs of LnvBFU to figure out what's wrong.
3. Please fix this issue in the next LnvBFU revision.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have a comparable problem over here. Got a brand new Lenovo Yoga 260 three weeks ago, worked completely fine until last wednesday. Processed some lenovo updates including Lenovo Solution Centre and Power Management and now my battery is dead. Everytime i turn on my Yoga 260 i get a battery error message after a few minutes that says the battery is not charging and it should be replaced due to a bad condition. When i open up Lenovo Settings and search for energymanagement it displays the same message telling me the battery is defect due to normal wear and it should be replaced. My problem is that the battery worked completely fine until the moment i installed some Lenovo software updates. I hope lenovo support can provide steps to correct this error instead of forcing me to return it and wait 2 -3 weeks. Thanks in advance.

Hello MadsWilliam, welcome to the Community,

Exactly which systems are you seeing this on please, the 20DA and which other types please? Could you also check the manufacture dates on a couple of examples in case they may be newer than the firmware updater and therefore not recognized by it and also, it would be helpful, if you could let us know the BIOS version from an example of each MT which is presenting you with the error please?

Get a messagebox saying "battery not detected" and it's not charging from mains. So laptop has now turned into a desktop... as needs plugging in continually... making it almost useless for purpose. This happened exactly after firmware update a few weeks ago. By coincidence the management software also kindly informed me that it could manage the battery better and stop it wearing out by only charging up to 90% - fair enough, but don't treat me like a muppet and disable it without any way to get it back. Tons of Windows 10 updates today (after not being able to use it for a few weeks) but still no battery. I tried F1 BIOS but nothing there to enable the battery (only to disable it). This is frankly a joke - timing shows it's due to the firmware update because the battery was fine and lasted a couple of hours right before. In 25 years of countless laptops, have never had this problem - batteries weaken gradually but don't suddenly lock up and require a paid replacement suddenly. How do we run down our original battery properly before polluting the planet? Phil

I bought new V310-15IKB Laptop and I've been using it for three days. Today I turned it on like always (the battery was fully charged the day before, so without the charger connected to it) and a windows update popped out. But at the same time at the screen there was some weird message (I made a photo) So I clicked Enter and it turned on. I saw that the battery is 97% and connected the charger, but it wasn't charging at all to my surprise (it's written 'connected, not charging'). I reset the laptop and problem is still the same. When I disconnect the charger the battery is running lower (from 97% to 95% and so on), when I connect it it's not charging. It's a huge problem for me, I need laptop to work, so I asked my friend to help, but he checked the saving energy thing in lenovo companion and it's turned off, we have no idea why this problem with battery exists. I need my laptop for work, if I can't get it fixed in a few days I have to go to the shop and return the laptop and buy something else instead. I really like it, don't want to do that, anyone can help me with my problem? And sorry but English is not my first language, I tried to translate everything the best I could.

A couple of weeks ago, Lenovo Vantage offered a bios update to version D3CN38WW. However, after I installed it, it seems that my battery cannot be charged any further than 15%. After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

I was updating my drivers for my new Lenovo Yoga 920 laptop and I tried to use this driver: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/no/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/YOGA-SERIES/YOGA-920-13IKB-GLASS/do... However, the update keeps failing and the Type C ports do not work now. I can't charge my laptop. Luckely I am at 75%, so I have about 3-4 hours to fix this before I'm forced to take it to service. I tried this solution: https://www.gfisk.com/lenovo-yoga-pd-firmware-update-failure-ccg4-two-port-usb-c-controller/but it doesn't work for me. I'm getting desperate I'm supposed to press the power button for 8 seconds and the powering should be back on, but for me the lap top goes off after 3 seconds of holding the power button. I keep pressing the button of course to see what happens. But, when I turn back on, the battery still won't charge. And the firmware update keeps failing. I tried everything according to instructions, but with no avail. Please help! My laptop is off now, so I will wait for solutions here before I turn it back on.

However, the previous version of firmware will stack charging at 95% and show that uncharged. I believe that it comes with Window 10 software to prolong the battery life. Is it normal that the battery shows 100% charge all the time? Could it be possible to set up the battery to stack at 95%? Regards,Dhatchai

How can I get a new battery for my 15-p157 notebook?Hi I bought my laptop in September 2017 from Currys, they have washed their hands of it as it is a battery fault. I'm sure the battery should last longer than 5/6months. Now it just says plugged in not charging/replace battery. I checked my battery against the recall list, it tells me I'm unaffected and to continue using it. However it does not function at all, the battery gets extremely hot (burnt my fingers twice) when plugged in to mains, however I have to use the mains to power my laptop as it switches off. I have so far had no reply from support which is irritating to say the least.I am aware batteries are a consumable, however this laptop is only plugged in when it needed to charge and then ran on battery, I have tried atx reset (disconnect all power, hold button for 45-60 seconds) no joy. This all happened over night, shut down my laptop the night before, next day nothing. I even bought a brand new charger for it. Looking in hp store you don't stock a battery for my laptop. How do I get this replaced? It's a v104 battery. I'd rather not have the whole laptop changed as it's perfect for me, just the battery that needs replacing. If anyone can please just point me in the right direction that would be fantastic.Kind regardsTraceySmitht29

Hi Guys,I have a Lenovo ideapad Z510 (built-in battery) using windows 10 and Lenovo vantage is installed. How can i perfom a gauge battery reset please? The problem i'm facing now is that the battery percentage isn't accurate, it stucks at a percentage for example 99% , so the system doesn't recognise that the battery drains and suddenly it dies !! without any alerts or keeping my work as well !!i tried the firmware update tool but it keep saying that no updates for attached battery. And i searched alot about how to perform a gauge reset but nothing available for this version of lenovo vantage. I also tried charging in BIOS mode for 10 mins and discharging for another 10 and repeating this process 3 times but nothing changed. So please any help!

Just received a new Dell battery for my laptop.  The battery icon starts out at 100% and time remaining at about 3. 5 hours left, then within 1 minute the time remaining levels off to about 2 hours left.  The battery showing time remaining is jumping up and down.  I am only using the computer for the internet.  No CD or DVD or gaming.  At best I get 1.5 hours out of a charge.  Is this normal?  Or did Dell send me a bad battery?

Sincerely,

Lou
