Cursor Left Clicks Randomly

Q: Cursor Left Clicks Randomly

I'm not sure why, but recently, my cursor seems to left click randomly. This isn't that huge of a problem, but it is some what of an annoyance when it comes to writing and playing games. If my cursor is somewhere else in the screen, it will automatically click there, and because of this I may begin typing there, or I may begin to bring up a bunch of random windows due to the fact that the remaining letters of the message are being typed without a blinking cursor, thus they turn into hot key commands. I've also lost large amounts of writing because the cursor would click outside the box I would be writing in, and then things may occur, like I accidently highlight it all, hit the next letter, and good bye to my message. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I know someone else with this issue as well, we both use laptops. I've tried replacing the mouse, but it still occurs. My Laptop (A Dell XPS) has the center ball, the touch pad, and a left/right click pad both above and below the touch pad. I'm not sure if this is related to hardware or if it is viral, but I'm praying it's not hardware. Any help would be greatly appreciated...I'm running out of options.
Also note that when I unplug the mouse and only use the the ball/touch pad, it continues to occur, which leads me to believe that it is not the external mouse.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

To eliminate hardware problems,
Try an online virus scan:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com
or
http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml

This will help elimate a nonhardware issue.

I've had a problem thats been persistent throughout the past week. Sometimes while I'm browsing a website and I try to move my mouse cursor, it will sometimes click on a link that it passes over, even if I didn't click on it. This tends to get annoying especially if the site has ads on it. At first I thought it may have been my laptop's "tap to click" feature but I knew that I had it disabled months ago, so I checked to see if it was still disabled, and it is. This problem also occured when I was in the process of removing a previous infection but persisted even afterward, and no spyware or virus detections pop up. I'm thinking it may have something to do with some registry values that were changed to solve an issue I was having with automatic key strokes, since sometimes if I press two keys at once and let them go it will act as if I'm holding the key I first pressed, which gets annoying and irritating while trying to play certain games. I'm using an Acer Aspire 5517 with Windows 7 installed in case it's a software or hardware issue with either one that I'm not aware of.

EDIT: On one instance I do recall leaving the cursor over a link by accident and, upon moving my hand away from the keypad, it would load the link about a second later, which led me to believe that some kind of malware may be involved.

A:Mouse cursor randomly clicks links while moving?

Try going to the manufacturer's website and downloading the latest drivers for your trackpad.

If that does nothing, try disabling the trackpad and plugging in a USB mouse. If the behavior stops, you know the problem is with the trackpad.

Using Firefox 3, on windows vista 64bit. I turned on the PC today, started tooling around online and then out of nowhere the page backs up on its own, then goes forward to the original page, without refreshing because my text entry on forums stays put. Also, it will randomly right click wherever the mouse currently is. It did it once, then not again for 10 minutes, then it did it twice in 2 seconds.

Im downloading and installing HJT atm, and updating my mouse drivers. But if anyone knows what this is, im all ears.

Im about to restart to see if it goes away with new drivers... I am really hoping its not my mouse, as it is a G5, and i love the thing... dont wanna buy a new one though, at 50-60 dollars lol...

Anyways, may as well see if my PC has aids while we are at it. Most of the stuff on here looks on the level to me, but i always like to get a second opinion.

Hi folks,

Well I cant stand it anymore. I was fixing a friends computer, it was very slow mostly because the system specs were too low. One problem with is was that the left-clicks werent always working no matter what mouse I used. I upgraded the motherboard and processor and RAM so that the computer would run faster, and it did, blazes through everything. But that damn mouse problem persists. I have to left click a file or folder so many damned times to open it but right clicks work just fine. Antivirus/Rootkit/Antispy scans turned up absolutely zilch. Tried uninstalling the USB Hubs in device manager and letting the OS reinstall them, no luck. I need help.

Also, the finger pad, same thing.
But, once in a window or anything other than the desktop, the mouse and finger pad work fine.
Clicks even work on the bottom tool bar.
This is on a WIN7 machine.

Last night, before this issue, kept getting "do you want this program to run" messages. The program listed was Microsoft Windows, certificate Microsoft, and location was hard drive on this computer. Kept saying "no", but it would pop up again after about a minute. I was on limited user account so I finally said yes as an administrator. Once I said yes, it stopped.

Thanks for your time

Whenever I use my touchpad and left click, it sometimes right clicks. To temporarily remedy this, I would just right click to make it stop. I already resetted my laptop to its factory settings because of it. Before I factory resetted it, it would constantly happen all the time and also the scrolling would not work and it would select stuff on the desktop screen by itself. However, it is still happening. I did all the lenovo driver updates that Thinkvantage System update tells me to do. It is happening less frequently after I resetted it to factory settings but it is still annoying. This problem somehow occurs much less frequently if I use an external mouse.

I've had this problem for about a month now, but here is my problem: Everyone once and a while my mouse moves into the bottoom left corner and starts to left and right click 100 times a sec on its own. Whenever I try to move the mouse, it spases around my screen, left and right clicking and closing anything I have open. Could this be a mouse problem? Or a virus? I've done the Trend Micro Housecall virus scan, and found nothing, same with spybot/adaware/scandisk. Any help? It happens when I'm at the desktop, and in games and I get accused of hacking because I start to violently spin around..

Any help?

Hi,I'm running Windows 10 with the latest updates. I have Synaptic Driver v19.0.12.112. When I'm using the touchpad, not all of the left clicks are registered consistently and every so often, it misses one. If i 'tap' the touchpad instead of 'clicking', then this works fine. I've tried different driver versions and even removed all Synaptic drivers, leaving just the basic windows driver (from 2006!). Using the basic Windows driver fixes the problem but then I lose all touch pad controls, such as two finger scroll. If changing the driver fixes the issue, it would therefore indicate to me that this is a driver issue but I've not yet found a Synaptics driver (or equivalent) which resolves this issue and maintains the rest of the touch pad controls. I've seen a few topics on this matter and some discuss plugging the laptop in versus running on battery but that doesn't make a different in my experience and is not a good enough compromise anyway. Please advise which driver will fix this issue?  HP - I've tried to go through your "contact us" support desk and it just takes me through a loop of questions but never actually submits the issue. Thanks,

Hi,

For about one week now, my laptop randomly moves the cursor on the screen and double clicks. So, applications run, windows open... A real mess.

This is not related to the mouse itself, it does the same with the mouse disconnected, with only the touchpad running. The strange point is that when an USB mouse is connected, I disable the touchpad.

The only changes I made in the days before it started is installing a windows 7 update and installing an evaluation version of Visual Studio 2010.

It seems that random mouse clicks is easy to find on Google... Anyone with similar concerns (and any solution...) ?

Should this be in the Hardware forum? If so, I'll move it.

Windows 7 ... just installed a new Logitech K759 Solar keyboard and am using an 'old' Logitech M705 mouse via one Unified receiver (obviously both are wireless).

Frequently, and unexpectedly, a full-screen window moves (and size is changed) when the mouse is left-clicked (also seems to occur when the cursor is moved with the mouse). When this happens, the window can't be closed by clicking on the 'red X' (in upper left corner) - the window will arbitrarily change back to full-screen but I cannot type or click on anything. Right clicking (on an 'empty' area) seems to 'freeze' the window in full-screen mode and I can continue typing.

There isn't any other wireless transmitter (wireless phone etc) nearby (plus have never had this problem before) so interference doesn't seem to be problem.

Have I inadvertently hit a key turning on a window 'feature' on?

A:window Moves (and Size Changes) Arbitrarily On Left Clicks

Finally ... think it's figured out.

Believe it was a defective Logitech mouse. Have been working with their support and they suggested the problem AND they have replaced the 'old' mouse (2.5 years old) with a new one at no cost. The problem looks to be the 'Application Switch button' misbehaving (i.e. engaging arbitrarily).

The 'new' mouse is working correctly.
Thus this problem is resolved.

Device is a HP Pavillion x2 - Detacable Tablet/Laptop Combo

OS: Windows 10

I'm getting random right clicks in the top corner of the screen. These don't occur too frequently to make using the device impossible, but often enough to be irritating.

The phantom clicks occur at random points, sometimes when nothing is being touched whatsoever, sometimes whilst typing and sometimes whilst browsing the web etc.

This almost always occurs whilst using Chrome Browser, and is always a right click - bringing up the options to close the window, minimise, task manager etc.

I've tried toggling various mouse settings, and turning off SnapGo. I've also recalibrated the touchscreen.

If anyone has a fix for this, many thanks

There have been a few occasions recently, twice today, where the cursor on my laptop suddenly and quickly closes my browser window, goes to the start menu, clicks it and starts opening a file. Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, are there any yellow flags? If so, right click them and Uninstall them. Unplug the Mouse from the USB port on the computer. If you still have the Wacoam Tablet plugged in, Under Human Interface Device, if the Wacom tablet is listed, right click it and Uninstall it. Now unplug the Wacom tablet. Now restart the computer. When the computer finishes booting, plug in the USB cable for the mouse into a different USB port. New Hardware will be found and the mouse should now work.
If you want, load the driver for the Wacom tablet from the install CD or download, and then, plug in the Wacom tablet.

I've had to turn off the single finger/ single click feature in Touchpad Settings because it is nearly impossible to use 2-finger scrolling in browsers (Firefox and Chrome) without inadvertently activating a left click on a link. Of course I've set Touchpad sensitivity to the lowest setting but I can't  actually detect much if any difference between the highest and lowest sensitivity settings. Unwanted left clicks are just insanely too easy to make and none of the several official Lenovo Touchpad driver updates I've installed in the months since I bought this laptop have helped this issue. I know what a good Lenovo touchpad feels like - my Yoga 2 Pro touchpad was excellent. But that was before I believe most touchpad control settings became part of Windows 10 rather than left up to individual manufacturers? Now I'm back to the primitive method of pressing hard for a left click(s). It can actually be tiring to constantly to that and brings back unpleasant memories on using a 14 year old Dell laptop. Is this a recognized problem or is my X1 Yoga special?

Hey guys,

I recently had the moneypak FBI virus and cleaned my registry using Ccleaner and also cleared my Temp files manually (which actually got rid of the problem).

Since I cleared this, the top left hand corner of my screen (roughly 2 icon squared in size) does not allow any direct clicking or interaction. The area is not obstructed by any objects and I can still drag things out of that area as long as my cursor is on an area outside of said area.

This affects all programs I use, including my browsers, Steam and Explorer.

I realise I have probably deleted a registry file I shouldn't have but have had no luck finding any other people who have had the same problem, any help you guys can offer would be most appreciated! Cheers!

I see you have realtek onboard sound. Open the Sound Manager and in the information section try changing the "Display icon in notification area" setting a few times and see if it gets it working again.

If not, one other question do you use multiple monitors? Sometimes this can cause the volume icon to malfunction as it loses track of where it is!

I just recently received a Dell Inspiron 5150 w/ windows XP from a friend who upgraded. It seems to be in good condition but there is one issue that I notice.

Without doing anything the computer randomly right clicks. I don't know why it does this exactly. My friend said he thought it was a motherboard (hardware) issue rather than a software issue. I am just hoping that is not the case.

Remember this happens whether I am at the computer or not, so it is not me causing this right click.

If anyone has any thoughts that would be most helpful. I have done all the Windows updates up to Service Pack 2. OH and I don't have a mouse.

Thanks!,

My mouse has just started acting up on me.. It is about a year old, maybe less actually and its a Razer Diamondback 1600DPI. Today it has randomly started to double click things and it is driving me absolutely crazy.. Only the left mouse button does it, not the right click and its random, not every click is a double click but it does it 1/4 times. I have not changed any software or anything like that lately, this basically has just came out of nowhere. I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers for the mouse and have came up with nothing.. it still does it. Does anybody have any idea whats going on?

A:Mouse Randomly Double Clicks?

is your mouse USB or PS2?! are you able to switch ports to find out if the problem still occurs... maybe some kind of clash.

Or have you an older mouse to try to determine where its a software issue or a physical mouse issue.

Hi, first post

Just yesterday I reinstalled my Windows XP Home after formatting my hard drive. I did this because For some reason my computer was randomly restarting out of nowhere. I would get the BSOD with the error MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION. It got so bad that i could on stay on my computer for about 20 minutes before this would happen. It restarted one time and after the windows loading screen it just kept restarting. Over and over again. So my friend said to boot my windows disk and do the Repair option. After that I did the chkdsk /p and then i did the bootfix. Which wrote a new sector in my hard drive fixing it temporarily. It kept happening however. One time it restarted again and it loaded up but everything was gone. Documents, desktop, music, everything. The only thing that remained was my Program Files. Nothing was in my start menu, or all programs list. Computer files wouldnt load up quick at all. (example: my computer, My Documents, etc.) I called a tech guy and he said the best thing to do now was to completely restart. (Oh, and the System Restore function did not work. I tried several dates.) So I completely reset my computer. Last night I was on from about 11:30 to 2 am in the morning playing a web based game. Nothing happened. But now today I can stay on for a max of 30 minutes. And then it gives me the Blue Screen with the same error and restarts. I find this to be completely ridiculous.

What I was happening before all this happened:
I had installed a Ph... Read more

I have windows Vista Home Premium with a 32-bit operating system and an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU.

I often get random mouse click noises (but it doesn't actually select anything and the taskbar pops up at the same time. I have scanned my computer with McAfee Anti-virus plus, as well as Malwarebytes' anti-malware with no results of a virus of any sort. I also use Sandboxie basically all the time.

I also use a USB mouse.

If someone could give me some help or describe what's happening i'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

A:Laptop randomly clicks mouse

While I'm not suggesting malware is at fault, I can tell you that McAfee is widely acknowledged as next to worthless. I'd suggest replacing it with ANY other anti virus utility.

As for the clicking, please boot to safe mode and see if the same problem occurs there. Let us know.

This was a problem i had forever ago but i found what i needed to fix it at the time. After a small windows 10 update the problem came back and i have been unable to find the solution to fix it again. So the problem is every so often if i click something it will click 3 times. So if i opened a folder once it would open 3 times. Along with that if im scrolling with two fingers, sometimes the curser will move like i only used one finger. It was fine and not doing any of this before the update. Ive done many things to fix this but not has worked. I remember the solution to this was going some where to edit a file or something but i no longer remember what that file was or where it was.

From your question it is understood that, after installing windows 10 updates, your laptop touchpad is not working as normal and it works erratically. To help you troubleshoot the issue, please follow the instructions mentioned below:- Open touchpad control panel, click on Start button.- Type ?Mouse? in the search field, and then select the Mouse control panel program from the search results.- On the ?Device Settings? tab of the Mouse Properties panel, select the ?Synaptic TouchPad? device and click the ?Settings? button. - Now select ?Tapping? option from the mouse property panel to adjust single- and double-tapping.- Expand the Tapping category heading.- Select ?Tap Zones? option and the change the actions associated with it. Tap Zones allow you to configure each corner of the Touchpad to function as separate button, when a specific corner is tapped; the action associated with it is implemented.- Click OK.- Now select ?Pointing and Sensitivity? option from the mouse property panel to adjust ?Touch Sensitivity?- If the cursor moves erratically when you barely touch the surface of the TouchPad, move the slider toward the ?Heavy Touch? position, click Apply , and test the sensitivity again.Hope this will help you.

Basically, while I'm using my computer, when I right click on something (desktop, icons, etc.) windows explorer crashes and restarts. However, it's not like it happens all the time, but it's more like a ticking time bomb. One moment it will work, and the next, it just crashes on me.

I used ShellExView already and tried disabling certain items on the list, but since I'm not entirely sure if it's working because it can suddenly work but then a few minutes later it starts to restart again.

Any ideas?

Have a 7470 and it seems to randomly beep and occasionally hear a clicking sound on it.  Even while i'm running the hardware tests it randomly beeps.  is something wrong with this laptop?  or instance, the hard drive test is running from the boot diagnostics, and it is just randomly beeping during it, not the usual noises you get during a hardware test.  even when booted into Windows it randomly makes beeps.

How do I fix this annoying thing please?

A:Dell XPS 13 2016 - randomly double clicks to open pages

Hi NATHSH,
What is the exact system model? What is the current OS installed on the system? When did the issue start?
If the system was working fine earlier, then perform a system restore to restore the machine to an earlier point where it was working fine - http://bit.ly/1JEw2ov
What browser are you using? Kindly test the same with another browser?
If the issue is seen only while browsing, I suppose, the issue could be with pop-ups. Disable popups on the browser and check. Link for Chrome - http://bit.ly/2cLQ8Ev
Restart the system and check in safe mode with networking - http://bit.ly/1LHcO2c
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I've had this laptop (HP Envy Notebook 15-q473cl) 2 months and its clickpad/mouse has begun to randomly click. It doesn't matter what I'm doing (scrolling, sitting back and watching a video, etc), the computer will suddenly start to click a bunch of times. It will keep clicking until I put the computer to sleep (or restart it), which fixes it every time. However, the random clicking has become more frequent and worrisome. It was randomly click with or without my wireless mouse plugged in.I have gone into the settings and increased the Smart Sense setting 2 notches closer to 'max' which did not solve my problem. I really like this laptop, but the frequency of random clicking is getting too frustrating. Let me know what else I can do.

Anyone else run into this?

I'm running Vista x64.. After awhile, say a week.. or maybe just 1 day.. frequently when i have say 4 explorer windows opened and grouped in the task bar.. I can click on the group, but attempts to click on an individual explorer session fail.. its not just explorer's that have been minimized, pretty much anything that has more than 1 item (grouped) wont let you click on any of the items.

Only fix is a reboot.

Cheers

When I am typing in an address bar, google search, anything, the cursor will randomly move to the left at times and I'll end up typing things completely wrong. I first thought there was something wrong with my keyboard, or that the left arrow was pressed down but it isn't. This also occurs while watching youtube videos. I will play a video and all of a sudden it will rewind automatically in increments until it gets back to the start. Even when I start it again or fast forward it will still randomly rewind, making videos impossible to watch. Not only that but it happens when I highlight an item on my desktop or open "all programs" in my start menu. The highlight will move to the left, making it impossible to select items sometimes unless I click really fast so it doesn't move before I hit the item.

This doesn't happen all the time, but it does on a daily basis and it randomly sneaks up on me. I'll be 4 minutes into a youtube video and it will do it and rewind. Some days it doesn't do it at all.

I scan my computer daily with bitdefender and spybot. I'm running a Lenovo laptop with 1.8 dual core and 4gb ram that isn't even a year old. Any suggestions?

A:Cursor, everything, moves to the left - help?

I cant think of anything else than a keyboard problem. If i were in such a situation i would turn on my on screen keyboard and spy the situation, because when you type the on screen keyboard buttons "type" too. So if the left arrow is sometimes "pressing itself" youll notice that.

I am having a problem that appears to be happening daily, sometimes twice in a day.

1) Typically I have the internet open to my email and I also have Mozilla open doing research.
2) All of a sudden my cursor starts moving to the left. Then the screen especially on the internet starts increasing and decreasing in size flashing back and forth.
3) I have found that if I remove cache from the mozilla selection clear private data and then reboot the problem goes away. I run avast and it doesn't appear to recognize what ever is causing it. I run spybot and found that the problem is in the cache, which using clear private data solves.
4) I am running out of ideas. The reboot is clearing this, but I don't know what is really behind this problem. I need help this is really draging down my work capability.
5) I operate in XP Professional, on a HP Pavillion DV8240US Notebook PC.

Somebody Please help.

Thanks

I saw there was a previous thread and there are other posts like this on the web. Most of them are just problems using certain programs. Mine is on the whole computer. For Example. If I click an Icon on my desk top it quickly goes to the far lewft screen as though i was holding down the left arrow key. While typing text in any program IE, Firefox, MS Word the cursor keeps moving left back through the previously typed text. This makes it very very hard to try an reinstall software and such. PLEASE HELP!

Hello, yesterday my Pro Windows 8 laptop had updated and now I am having trouble turning it back on. When I turn it on it gives me the option to press the ESC button which leads me to a Startup Menu that allows me to press F1, F2, F9, F10 and F11. After that, it goes to a black screen with a white blinking cursor in the top left corner.  I've tried taking the battery out and holding the power button and I've also put in a "Application and Driver Recovery DVD" not really sure what else to do.  Any answers? Thank you.

I really don't know if this is a virus or not, but It's driving me NUTS!!!! My cursor starts to drift to the top right and stays there. I have to use the mini joystick in the middle of the keyboard in conjunction with the touchpad to be able to click on anything. Then, the cursor goes right back to the top right. Then, all of the sudden, it drifts across everything and sits on the bottom left, same deal with movement. I have ran a scan with Norton Client Security, and Spy Sweeper and do not have anything there. I am currently running panda activescan to see if anything shows up with it. I am about to run hijack this to post my results. I am new to this post and I have a good knowledge of computers, but this is killing me!!!

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop, 1.6 ghz P4, 768 mb RAM, windows XP home with SP2.

Any ideas? Thank you all so much for your attention...

So, I've been having a continuous problem for a few days now. It started last Monday, after an accident had cracked my LCD screen. Whenever I would be typing anything, the cursor would keep scrolling left or upwards without me pressing anything. Similarly, whenever I would be scrolling down a page-- whether by using the arrow keys, PgDn or my cordless mouse's wheel, the screen would often reverse and scroll back up on me.The problem was infrequent, and I figured it had to be an issue with the mouse. When I got my laptop back from its screen repair yesterday, though, the problem not only persisted, but more than once the cursor froze completely. Both those times, a message popped up saying that my Intel graphics accelerator had stopped working. After the second such crash, my computer then crashed completely, and restarted in a CHKDSDK routine. It detailed deleting corrupted lsarsv.mov files, and I can post screenshots if people want more details.

after my computer rebooted, I looked up solutions online, and upon seeing a thread about a similar issue, used cmd.exe to initiate another disk check and a system scan. The scan aeemed to eliminate a lot of corrupted files (I'll hopefully be able to send you the log) and this mornings disk check found nothing. Unfortunately, the problem is persisting. I had to write this post on another computer due to my cursor constantly scrolling up on me.What is going on, do you think, and how can I fix it? Please help, this... Read more
