IE11 Unable to Drag and Drop websites to my Favorites bar, unable to rearrange existing shortcuts.

Q: IE11 Unable to Drag and Drop websites to my Favorites bar, unable to rearrange existing shortcuts.

Hi all,
under Win10 x64 & IE11 fully patched & updated, since some time I am unable to drag&drop websites to the "Favorites" bar in IE like before. I am now also unable to rearrange existing shortcuts at the bar by drag&drop.
What I already checked:

did reset all IE setting incl. personal settings - no effectStarted IE without addons - no effectTried with another user profile, no effectremoved almost all items from autostart (using MSConfig), no effectchecked folder permissions on my "Favorites" folder, they are fine
But:

Booting Win10 in safe mode, drag&drop works, rearrange worksAdding a website using a button "Add to a favorites bar" worksafter opening "favorites" on the left side of IE and navigating to "Favorites Bar" folder, I was ABLE to rearrange shortcuts there, and the changes were instantly reflected on my "Favorites" bar.
Any suggestions?
I have found this thread with exactly same sympthoms, but unfortunately the "solution" provided there (and somehow marked as answer (???!!!)) is not a solution.

Preferred Solution: IE11 Unable to Drag and Drop websites to my Favorites bar, unable to rearrange existing shortcuts.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Under IE 11 and Win 8.1, Office 365 E3, I have turned off "Lock Toolbars" but am still unable to drag items to the bar successfully. Works fine on my other computers, so I know my technique is OK. Also, cannot rearrange items with drag and drop
-- have to use Organize Favorites command. This is slowing me down!
Thank you.

Not sure if this is just a problem with Win x64 but unable to drag drop to either a ZIP or RAR file under explorer. Can drag and drop normal files to other folders/drives but when trying with a ZIP or RAR all I get is the line thru' the 0 - so a no go.

Have a laptop with Win7 x86 and that works fine with drag drop ZIP and RAR files. When doing that you get a square with a + in the middle.

Obviously something wrong here but I don't really want to go through reinstalling Win 7 and resetting all the programs again.

Any help appreciated. Tried doing a search on the forum and there are a few problems with drag and drop but none of them apply to adding files to a ZIP or RAR file

A:Unable to drag drop to ZIP and RAR

You are trying to drag a file that is not zip'd or rar'd, onto a .rar or .zip file that contains other files? Meaning you want to add that file into the already created zip or rar? I didn't even know this was possible. Don't you have to re-zip everything if you want to include more that what was already compressed?

Hey Guys & Gals,

I upgraded to Win XP SP3 a couple of days ago & it went smoothly enough, however for one reason or another I cannot drag & drop files into other folders. I can drag files, but they won't copy or move into the folder. Copy/Cut & paste still works fine, but it's annoying.

I checked and drag & drop is enabled in the advanced customized start menu. I even disabled it, re-enabled it, and restarted it without success.

Any help would be appreciated.

What is the exact situation I don't really udnerstand what you mean by dragging the file. You mean that the program won't lauch by making a shortcut or are you trying to cut a .exe and bring it to you're desktop then launch it? Missing files?

I really messed up my computer. I think I deleted a necessary Service.

I searched high & low at Microsoft Support & all over the internet, but everthing I do to try to fix the problem only brings me to another error message or another function that does not work properly.

I don't think I have a virus or any other malicious software because I scanned my computer a day or 2 before this happened & it was clean.

My taskbar/start menu has disappeared, system restore won't work, I am unable to make any chages to my system services, safe mode is working just as bad as regular startup, many programs do not work properly including internet explorer and more. I am almost surprised I am able to post this.

I have pretty much given up on trying to restore my necessary service(s) or restore my computer to my last restore point. I decided to burn some files/folders to my disk drive and then re-format my computer. But I have run into another problem.

I am unale to cut, copy, paste, drag, drop, move or send files/folders to another location on my computer, including my CD-R drive. I am able to select cut, copy, sent to, etc, but nothing happens after I do.

Please, can anyone help?

I have been working with Vista Ultimate x64 edition for almost six months now. After a recent update from Microsoft my computer would not boot. I was able to run the system restore from the Vista install CD and select a restore point from a few weeks ago and got the computer back up and running. My problem now is that I find that when I try to copy and paste nothing happens. Also I find that right clicking on a file or folder and selecting delete also does nothing. I have tried dragging the folder onto the recycle bin with the same results. Nothing. I first thought that it was a permission problem, but checking that shows that I am the owner. I think it maybe registry problem. What is weird is that I have rocketdock installed and I am able to drag and drop the file onto the recycle bin on rocket dock and opening the recycle bin shows the newly deleted file. That is why I believe it is not a permission problem. Anyone have any ideas what would be wrong?
Thanks, Shawn

I don't know if this is related or not, but I have two problems that quite possibly started at the same time.

Firstly, I cannot drag files or copy them. If I try to drag they just don't move, if I try to copy nothing happens. There is no error message or anything like that.

When I start up my computer I get a message saying something went wrong and the computer will automatically shut down again. I can't remember the exact message and can't reboot just now to check the specifics, but hopefully the info I have given means something to someone as it is.

Can anyone help with either issue? I've tried searching Google but have had no luck fixing either yet.

To my knowledge I haven't installed anything recently, besides some automatic updates (I don't think any for Windows recently), Hamachi and Risk II. I formed a virtual LAN with someone using Hamachi so it's perhaps possible I got a virus from them, but they say they don't have these problems themself.

I wrote a simple batch file that takes two filenames as parameters and renames one of the files (.srt) so it matches the other (.mkv). The two filenames are selected in a windows explorer window and dragged and dropped onto the filename of the .bat file on the desktop. It works well, unless one of the filenames contains a space character. In that case, in the opened cmd-window the error message "The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect" is displayed. The batch file itself does not even start. So, to illustrate: Movie1.mkv with Subtitles2.srt correctly results in the latter being renamed to Movie1.srt. But Movie1.mkv with Subtitles space 2.srt does not work, nor does Movie space 1.mkv with Subtitles2.srt. Does anyone have any idea why?

In Vista Ultimate, with Internet Explorer 7, when I drag and drop an URL from the address bar (e.g. the place where you type in URLs to navigate to), to the desktop or any folder, it results in a pure white icon (with the shortcut arrow).

If you double click the icon it gives you a message saying "The target "" of this Internet Shortcut is not valid. Go to the Internet Shortcut property sheet and make sure the target is correct." (Which obviously its not).

If you right click on the icon, and choose properties, then you will see under the "Details" tab a blank URL for the property.

Another symptom of the problem I am having is that if I save a web page as a htm, html, or mht file it then says it can not save the web page because one of the files is missing.

Obviously something is broken. I tried using the Vista DVD to upgrade my current installation hoping that action would find somehow to fix it - but it did not. I have a feeling either some .dll is not registered - or that something in the registry is wrong. I searched through many pages on the net suggesting that I regsvr32 urlmon.dll, ieframe.dll (doesn't register), mshtml.dll, oleaut32.dll, and some others and I did such and it did not fix this problem. I checked the registry for the .url link and obviously that is correct.

The problem is not the action that happens when you double click the icon - as if you type in a URL property into the details of an existing Internet Shortcut... Read more

A:help: URL prop missing on drag & drop with Internet Shortcuts & Cant save web pages

I fixed this. I must give some credit to the MS engineer that worked with me last night. He thought it might be because I changed location of the directory for the desktop using the properties function of Vista on the Desktop folder (e.g. change location after right clicking). While that was not the problem. it caused me to check if the security permissions were adequate. I played around with "Enable Protected Mode" within IE7. When turned off and restarted the browser, the problem disappeared. So I researched I compared to the security permissions of a system with users' directories that worked the permissions on the directories of those that did not work. They were identical. However, I then decided just to add the current user's permissions to the main folder "mbenson" and propogate (re-inherit) all the permissions for all subfolders. Upon doing this the problem disappeared. I am not sure what folder or file had the permissions set wrong under user or if something else will now be affected by changing these permissions this way - but at least the problem is gone. I post this here for any other souls.

Before Windows 7/Vista, in Explorer Detail view, only the filenames highlighted, now the entire rows get highlighted.

This means each time I try to do a "drag & select" to select multiple files, I just end up dragging the first file instead. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, it seems to be at random.

What's the way to tell Windows 7 I want to do a drag & select and not a drag & drop?

I have recently been testing Windows in FIPS-compliance mode for compliance with a common security policy mandated by a state government agency.  This included my assigned laptop, which is running Windows 8.1 Update Enterprise x64.
As part of the test, I enabled the "System cryptography: Use FIPS 140 compliant cryptographic algorithms, including encryption, hashing and signing algorithms" both in local security policy on my machine and later via a test GPO.  Since that
test has completed, I have deleted the GPO and disabled the setting in local security policy.  I've also rebooted several times to verify the setting is truly disabled and also tried creating a GPO that forces that setting to disabled.
What I am seeing is, since performing these tests, I can no longer enable TLS 1.1 or 1.2 on IE11.  They were previously enabled.  The settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 are all grayed out.  SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, and TLS
1.0 are checked (and cannot be unchecked) and TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are unchecked (and cannot be checked).
Suspecting group policy, I put my user account and computer account in an OU that has group policy inheritance blocked and made a GPO that only forces SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 on for my user account and applied it to my test GPO.  The
particular setting is Policies | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Internet Explorer | Internet Control Panel | Advanced Page ... Read more

A:IE11: Unable to enable TLS 1.1 and 1.2

At this point, I would re-install the workstation since you have only one machine that is affected (or now two). When no GPO settings are applied but IE, despite re-set, greys out options I?d say FUBAR.
I did not observe this behaviour when I enabled and disabled the FIPS option. IE would still give me the SSL/TLS options to check and uncheck. That was IE 10 on Windows 8.
Alternatively, manually setting the cipher suites via GPO may also get you the TLS 1.2 desired behaviour.

Please note there are no problems using IE11or Google Chrome in connecting to any other site(s) or exploring the internet. I do not have any 3rd party antivirus or malware protection.
Have tried many different suggestion found in searching the web but no luck yet.

Any Ideas?

Hi,

i'm having problem problem with upgrading IE9 to IE11 on our 100 Windows 7 x64 Polish version virtual machines. All these machines were deployed from one image i believe. They have limited internet access.

All prerequisite updates from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2847882 are installed, but still installation fails:

In IE11_main.log you can find  ERROR:   Neutral package installation failed (exit code = 0x00000002 (2)).

Googled it, but hadn't found any working solution.

I also have tried installing IE11 via cmd:

As you can see, there is dism error 0x80070002. Googled it, nothing works.

Futhermore, i cannot even manually uninstall IE9 from updates, maybe this is the culprit?

Uninstalling IE9 via this cmd also doesn't work:

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart /quiet"

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Hi,
I'm feeling really dumb but I can't figure out how to view the details of an SSL certificate in IE11.

On previous version of IE you would simply click on the padlock that appears in the address bar and then select view certificate. On IE11 the padlock does not appear. The particular problem I'm having is that I'm trying to diagnose why Windows 8.1 with IE11
is rejecting a perfectly valid cert. All I get is a screen telling me that there is a problem with the certificate (it says that the cert is revoked) but no details and I can't figure out how to view the details.

Do you get the same problem with other browsers?

installed ie11 as an update but now I have issues with filling out user names and passwords on various web sites which include ebay search box,any help or direction.

A:ie11 unable to fill out boxes

Could be incompatibility with IE 11, could be an add-on that's installed, could be anti-virus/internet security. Have you tried a different browser? When trouble shooting browser issues it's a good idea to try a another browser to see if it works outside of the application that is having the issue.

I have been facing this problem for a long time.
In Win7, I leave IE11 (version 11.0.17) open and after some hours the page disappears and a message is shown:
"We were unable to return you to <site name>.
Internet Explorer has stopped trying to restore this website. It appears that the website continues to have a problem."

I already know this:
This problem occurs because of an issue with Java Version 6 Update 22 and Java Version 6 Update 23 that was exposed by recent changes in the Internet Explorer 9 rendering engine.

But the problem is I uninstalled Java a long time ago!

What can I do?
(I don't want to reset IE settings)
(I don't want to disable the addons one by one until I find the culprit)

Thanks

A:IE11: "We were unable to return you to <site name>"

Try installing the latest version of Java to fix the bug, then uninstall it if unneeded.

edit: but as the rendering engine on ie 11 and ie 9 are different this may be a completely unrelated issue
