Double windows 7 option when booting.

Q: Double windows 7 option when booting.

Hello, I've been having a problem when booting my computer today. When it gets past POST and loads operating systems (Like if I were to dual boot linux and 7) it shows windows 7 twice. At first, it was because I was installing windows to my new SSD, and left the old install on my HDD, which I planned to format and use as data storage after everything was done. I tried to delete it from my HDD, but it wouldn't let me while in windows, so I used my DVD and formatted my HDD with that, and left my SSD as active partition with boot. Soon as I restarted the computer it said something like "Bootmgr missing press ctrl+alt+delete to restart" I did that, and used my disc again to repair it but now its back to having 2 different drives with both active on their list in disk management, and two windows 7 options at boot start.
(Disk 1 is my SSD and Disk 0 is my HDD)

What I want to know is, how can I delete system reserve from my HDD and put it on my SSD without having two windows 7 options (once again I formatted the HDD so it shouldn't even have windows on it.) and put the crash dump option on to the HDD. Also why both drives are showing up as active. Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Double windows 7 option when booting.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You didn`t unplug disk 0 during the new install did you ?

Why do you want to put the SR partition on C ? C looks fine.

How can i do this???Can anyone help??

A:Make windows 7 as first option while booting

How did you set up the dual boot? If you used EasyBCD or similar in Windows 7 then the same should be able to change the default. If you used grub (more normal) in Ubuntu see an article such as this How do I change the GRUB boot order?.

Yesterday I began the processing of migrating my C: drive contents to a newer larger SSD. i used Clonezilla to copy to the new hard drive. I thought everything had gone OK but it didn't (of course) . The new hard drive was recognized as the C: drive; the old hard drive was recognized, but only in Disc Manager and Windows would not boot unless i booted from the old SSD. Through a process of pretty much trial and error, I am now at the point where both drives are recognized. The new drive is C: and the old drive is now visible in Explorer as drive I. The old drive still has all it's original contents including Windows and needs to be reformatted (it's more than 90% full). The computer is booting from the C: drive as it should.

The only quirky thing which is happening now is that when I boot the computer, I'm given a choice of loading Windows Home Premium or Windows Home Premium (Recovered). If I do nothing the computer loads the former after 30 seconds...all is well.

Any idea why the "recovered" option is there, and how do i get rid of it?

A:given option of booting to Windows Home Premium OR Recovered version

Well its there bcause windows automatically repaired ur computer.. try which entry is working n remove the other one using easybcd software.. but make sure the menu entry ur choosing at boot is working fine

This is actually a question about Win 7, but I'm fairly sure it works the same way in Vista.

When you open my computer and double-click on something, (say a game CD) the default action is always to run an installer or setup or something. I want to change it so that instead, it opens the CD and let's me browse the files. I'm not talking about AutoPlay, I don't want that annoying popup every time I put something in. I just want it to Open instead of Run when I double click it, it's annoying to have to do a Right Click > Open each time. I know on my Vista machine it does this, but I can't remember if I did something to set it up like that or not, or what I did to set it up if I did. Anyone know how? Thanks

Well this is weird. Basically, I just bought an external drive and the option in right click menu that is bold at the top is install or run program and I have to select Open everytime I want to use it. Double clicking tells me "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing that action. Create an association in the set associations control panel.

Lol, help would be apreciated so the default action is Explore not Install because I just formatted it so there is no data like .exe

Hello,
I own a Samsun laptop. It had always worked fine, until it fell while shutting down and presumably damaged the hard drive. Nevertheless, I reinstalled Windows and it ran perfectly well for a couple of months. Then, all of a sudden, it wouldn't even boot. A few light went up and a faint noise could be heard from the fan, but that was it. After severan tries, it finally booted, but now the keyboard just didn't respond. From then on it's been the same: most times it won't boot, and when it does, keyboard won't work. Sometimes it'll freeze at startup or crash when trying to activate the screen keyboard. What can I do? Is it fixable? Expensive? My warranty's still on time, though, and I'll give it a try tomorrow, but on the meantime any help would be appreciated.

A:Laptop double issue: booting and keyboard

You probably damaged the HDD and possibily the mother board. If your comfortable opening the laptop you might want to check that the keyboard ribbon is still seated properly, note this will probably void your warranty, so if you plan on using the warranty don't open up the laptop.

Didn't know where to post this, but this question concerns a problem with the CD-ROM drive not being read in the boot menu.

The only visible option in the boot menu is the Notebook Hard Drive and nothing else.

This problem prevents me from booting a Linux installation that is required for a class.

Could anyone provide a solution for me; or at the very least help me discover the problem?

Thanks in advance; any useful information is appreciated.

I have a windows XP computer, I wanted to try out vista so I made a new partition with a boot CD and then installed vista on that small partition but after a couple of days I booted again with the Boot CD and I deleted the small partition so now I only have XP on the computer,

But when I boot up the computer I still see the option of booting in 2 OS vista and earlier version of windows (XP) now if I click on vista, I am getting NO OS which is fine, but how can I take it down? I tried to Edit the BOOT.INI but I only see XP I don?t see any referents of vista, and I cannot use BCDEDIT.exe because I have XP so what should I do?

A:still see the option of booting in 2 OS???????

Hello deutschnaftula

Start>Run and type msconfig. On the boot.ini tab, click "Check all boot paths".

That should remove the dual boot option for you.

Hello all!
For months, my pc had no issue booting at the 230 option on my PSU. However, a few days ago I powered it down and it wouldn?t turn back on until I had switched it to 115. This wouldn?t be an issue, except now my USB microphone doesn?t work anymore because it draws too much power. Whenever I try to boot with 230 now, my pc goes on this endless cycle of trying to startup, and the fans speed up and slow down over and over and over again. It?s so annoying!

1. Change option
2. Change option, back to single click and back to double click
3. Reset defaults
4. Reset defaults in all tabs in Folder Options.

Any suggestions?

I've re-installed Windows using an OEM boot CD, and now I cannot get it to boot from the HDD. I have set the prioroty in the BIOS to HDD/CD/Floppy and Windows just gets stuck in a loop when trying to start ("loading personal settings" > "logging off" > "loading personal settings" etc.). It boots fine from the CD if I change the BIOS priority to CD/HDD/Floppy.

I cannot run the recovery program from the CD as it goes straight into the WinXP installation (I'd imagine due to being an OEM CD).

I had to re-install windows due to a virus attack, which I believe must have changed something in the boot registry. Any ideas please?

Are you referring to the Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI)? I have never heard of HCAI as an acrnoym in computer terms. If you want to change from a RAID (dynamic) to basic disk it will require formatting the drives.

See the following article for some information;

I just got a new monitor, and I've always wondered what it would be like to have 2 monitors at once, seeing as my 16" has nothing wrong with it (aside from a scuff mark in the LCD when I dropped it on a screwdriver)

Anyway, I got it setup, and it's amazing! I'd say it's increased my productivity by 20% and the entertainment factor is unmeasurable. Being able to have a youtube video on the left and have my IDE open on the right is fantastic.

Now, here comes the problems.

I have the monitor on the right (the 22") set as the primary monitor because I want games to open on fullscreen on it. But, I want my desktop icons and start bar to be on the left monitor.

Well, I can get that, but new icons created will show on the right monitor, and I have to minimize everything to get to them to move them to the left monitor. Also, every time I reboot, they appear on the right monitor.

Is there a fix for this? Or is this just a down sight of having the right monitor as the primary monitor?

A:Double Monitors = Double Desktop Headache!

I have my big monitor set as main (with icons), and the taskbar on the right (not main) monitor. Never had an issue with that.
I think all new icons will default to the main monitor, so you would have to move them.

Recently I purchased a laptop with windows 8 64 bit pre-installed in it. For my job purpose, I needed windows 7 32 bit. After searching the web and also using the information I got from this site, I disabled secure boot, deleted the recovery partition and converted GPT partitions to MBR. Then I shrink the Big partition in which windows 8 was installed to make room for the windows 7 partition. Then I created a new partition and installed windows 7 on it. After this whenever I switch on the computer, a message come up, saying that a required device cannot be found and windows is to be repaired. The only way in which I can start windows is to go to bios, select the boot options and then select boot from notebook hard drive.

Can anybody please tell me how this problem can be solved

how will perfomance differ ??

A:double pc specs,does perfomance double ?

There are many other contributing factors that can have an effect on performance, you would need to look at every single component of the system.

I am no expert, but I would imagine if you doubled the capability of every single part (CPU, GPU, RAM, motherboard, hard drives etc) then you would, I suspect, get twice the performance.

I have a VISTA Home Premium (x64) OS. After installing an Ashampoo Core Tuner program, I could see all the programs which start with Windows. Several of these appear to be starting 2 copies along with 2 system supports where required by a program. Only one program shows up in the programs list and only one shortcut icon appears on the desktop. I looked at the startup paths and find the only difference is that one copy (the one marked in the Core Tuner display with (32 bit) in front of the name) has /WOW6432Node/ in the string.

Should this be happening? If not, how do I stop it? And can it be avoided in future installations? It would appear that this doubling is an unnecessary load on the processors and an unnecessary added delay to boot up.

I'm attempting to attach a .jpg screenshot of the Core Tuner display.

Since taking the upgrade to version 14, I no longer have the option to pin the shortcut to the task bar of start menu but have to be content with the shortcut on the desktop. When right clicking on the shortcut, I no longer see the traditional option of where to pin the shortcut. I've gone back as far as Version 10.0 but the option is no longer there either.

Any ideas on what's happened or how to solve this mystery?

Like the title said I am not able to double click on anything at all. I have found a way to get past it and set it to me only clicking once and opening a program, but now it affects my games when I need to double click. I don't know what to do, if someone could help much would be appreciated!

P.S. and I also can't hear any game sounds on my laptop.

Try another mouse set up your programs (Shortcuts) back to double click to open them.

I had a similar issue found out it was the button inside my mouse.

Hello, i have a problem with having not one but two fully working windows on the same partition, and in :C\ disk there are 2 windows systems foldiers: WINXP and WINDOWS. So could someone tell me how to delete the older windows.

A:double installed windows xp

did you recently install the two windows version - if so start again only this time delete the partition, then recreate partition format and install windows - note you will lose all programs and data installed - also you should make a note of all hardware and drivers that may be needed using SIW or belarc.com

Whenever I open a office document, I get two windows opening. The first is
the actual document I need, the second is a blank page that's greyed out,
with no infomation on it. How can I stop this "ghost" window that opens??
This only seems to happen when I click the file shortcut , and not through the "open" option in word.

A:double windows in office!

Set the view to one page instead of two pages (since the 2nd page does not exist its greyed otu)

It happens at random times. When I lock my Windows 7 laptop by pressing Windows + L, turn off the display of my laptop, and leave it overnight, when I try to login by typing my password it continues to a black screen for around 2 seconds and be back at the password prompt. I then have to input my password again and it goes successfully to the desktop.

I tried searching over the net and this seems to be a common problem. Their solution was to turn off "require password during login" in the power options. I did that but the problem still persists so I assumed that that is not the solution.

What could be wrong here?

Thanks.

A:Windows Double Login

Set "turn off display after", "put the computer to sleep after" and "turn off hard disk after" (<--this one in advanced power options) to "Never". These options can be found in Power options in Control panel.

See if this helps.

Sidenote: Why not save power by putting the system to sleep or simply hibernating it?

I run a small computer club, teaching older people to use computers. I have a student who has an HP all-in-one, bought with W8.1 and then upgraded to W10. The system is clearly partially corrupted, and I would like to reinstall W10 - there is no complete system backup.

I used the create media method in a memory stick to upgrade some W7 laptops given to us (using 1511) - can I use that to reinstall W10 over the top of the existing W10 and have it activated? Looking at some of the threads here, I think activation should be OK, but I am a bit twitchy about the rest of it.

We are still on 1511 in the UK.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You should be on version 1607, being in the UK does not make a difference. I would suggest you download the latest ISO from the link I will post for you, and then you will have 2 choices, a clean install or a repair install. Repair install would be my 1st choice as it does not remove any personal files or 3rd party programs installed. I will also post a link that explains it for you.

Hey,

Ive got a problem because it appears that something is wrong with my windows configuration. When i check my processes it shows me that my programs are using about 600MB RAM which is about 15-16% of my total ram got 4GB but it shows taht im using 34% so double. What is the problem? Could you help me? Thanks.

A:Windows RAM problem double usage

That's normal, the information there isn't perfectly accurate and doesn't account for all of the memory that's being used. But those numbers are absolutely normal for a healthy 4GB system.

Task Manager counts differently, the rest of the memory is being reserved for several purposes. Hardware needs some, and the OS will fetch and reserve for performance.

That's keeping it real basic and simple. If you want a more expert explanation, you should be able to find tons of posts regarding this just by searching. It's been discussed here many many times, in great detail.
