Preferred Solution: problem with windows home basic , plz help

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: problem with windows home basic , plz help

Well, some features of Windows 7 are disabled in the Home Basic edition, but to change themes (if you can) you right click on the desktop and from the menu that appears you select Personalize. From there select the theme you want.

I have this problem with my Gateway T5056 desktop which had originally windows XP media center edition 2005 in it. I planned to upgrade it to vista home basic. So I checked with windows vista upgrade advisor and everything was good to go.
Every thing went well, all devices are working fine. But the only problem I am facing here is during startup. After passing BIOS screen its reaching at regular Microsoft Vista green bar moving and its not going anywhere after that. Sometimes it works okay but most of the time I have to forced shutdown it and select Last good known configuration and sometimes it worked from there.
Just want to mention here i reformatted this hard drive and its brand new vista installation. i tried resetting BIOS to default but did't help either.
Have anybody else got this problem too after upgrading to vista? Please suggest ? If you have any other question please feel free to ask ..

I tried to turn off the Firewall and the NOD32 antivirus, but ... nothing changed ....

Hi
Please advice on the performance comparison between
- Windows 7 Home Basic versus
- Windows 7 Home Premium
assuming if both uses the same 8GB RAM.

Just a hearsay...that Windows 7 Home Basic is lagging behind Windows 7 Home Premium in terms of performance assuming if both uses the same 8GB RAM. Please confirm whether this is true or not.

By the way, how to activate the Windows Aero in Windows 7 Basic???

A:Performance comparison btw. Windows 7 Home Basic versus Home Premium

Hello cheesum and welcome to Seven Forums.

Last question first. This tutorial may help enable Aero. Please note that there is no way to enable transparency on Windows Home Basic.

Aero - Enable in Unsupported Editions of Windows 7

As far as performance, I have not been able to find any specific "speed" tests to say one way or the other.

Difference Between Windows 7 Home Basic and Home Premium | Difference Between | Windows 7 Home Basic vs Home Premium

But if Basic and Home Premium are run on two identical machines (not just identical RAM, but also identical hard drive/hard drive speed, identical CPU, identical programs and apps installed, etc) I would give a very slight performance advantage to Basic simply because it doesn't have the same amount of features that Home Premium has. Fewer features to load usually equals faster performance. But I think any performance advantage would be so slight it wouldn't make any appreciable difference.

I did find some comments comparing Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional.

performance difference 7 home premium vs. 7 professional? - Microsoft Community

Of course, others may completely disagree with my thoughts and that's cool. Healthy discussion and debate is welcomed.

I have recently purchased a new Acer Aspire 5535 laptop. It has Windows Vista Home Premium (WVHP) installed.

The computer came with a number of programs that I am not interested in having on my system. In addition, I was not provided a restore disc. I do own a copy of Windows Vista Home Basic (WVHB).

I would like to keep WVHP as I appear to be eligible for an upgrade to Windows 7 . . . but I would like to reinstall to get rid of all these worthless programs. Can I use a WVHB disc with my new WVHP product key?

Could I install WVHB with the WVHB product key, then use the WVHP key supplied by Acer to upgrade?

Thanks for your time in answering my question. I hope it isn't unclear.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Hi Folks hope you maybe able to help .

I am using an E system EI 3103 laptop which came loaded with Vista Home Basic with no discs . I set a password up and that has worked fine up to now. Now when the password page is displayed and we enter the password that we have always been using the response is "User Profile Service service failed the logon" and the next line it says "User profile cannot be loaded" . The system wont allow me to get into any area except the only other option I have is on start up it says we can use F2 or F10 but that doesnt seem to help . I have used the "restore default values on start up" but the result is the same.

I hope the above is understandable.

Does anyone have any ideas ?

I'm running a Acer Desktop PC with Windows vista home basic (Build 6000) I have 1GB Ram(Yes i know that's tiny). Recently my computer has been running very slowly. I found the problem was 100% CPU Usage.

I was looking through the task manager and found that the physical memory had 800MB of Cache, an i have no idea how to or if it is possible to clear the cache.
When running some programs the cache lowers a little to have enough memory to run the program, but is still a vary large cache.

Can anyone help?

~Thanks Cameron.

A:[Vista Home Basic] Huge Cache Problem

The cache is the amount od hard drive space that is being used in order to swap things from the main memory in order to keep up.
It will fluctuate as needed in order to prevent a system crash.

Do you have several things set to start when Windows starts and extra tool bars in Internet Explorer?

All of these will consume memory and cache space as needed in order to run.
Windows tries to keep many things in memory or cache for faster access.
If possible turn some of these things off until needed and I think you will find that these numbers will go down and computer response will improve.

My computer is not sleeping properely, when I go to bed at night i put the computer to sleep. When I wake up it is already awake. Nobody else lives with me so that is ruled out. When I first got the computer from dell a few years ago, I noticed a error with the sleep feature it would turn on and off many times, this was before I had hooked it up to the internet. Anyhow that issue seems to have went away when I called dell and they came out to fix it. the coumputer was sleeping fine, so I do not understand what I may of did to it. I do have VOIP phone but I have checked that asap after the computer was in sleep mode and I still have dialtone. I thought it might be virus scanner but it was shut off last night and the same issue. I just went and figured out how to fix the hibernation feature since it was deleted and will see if that feature works instead, but if you have any comments please add. My computer is up to date with all the updates minus IE9 beta.

I have had this HP G62 laptop for almost four years. It has always had Windows 7 Home Basic on it. I had to format my hard drive a few weeks ago due to viruses corrupting my graphics (OpenGL), so I did this and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Basic.

Before I formatted my hard drive, I used a program to obtain my Product Key for Microsoft Office and I also made a note of the Windows Product Key which was different to the one on the Certificate Of Authenticity on the bottom of the laptop. I downloaded an ISO of Windows 7 (which apparently is legal) and put it onto a flash drive and used it to reinstall Windows. I don't remember entering the Product Key when installing, so cannot confirm this.

I received a message saying that the Windows is not genuine and I must activate it. I tried to do that using the Product Key on the COA and it says that the product key will not work with this edition of Windows. The sticker on the bottom of my laptop says it is for Windows 7 Home Premium, but my laptop came to me with Home Basic.

I also tried the Product Key that I obtained from the program before formatting and this key gives me a message saying "The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license." (Error Code 0xC004F063)

Please could you assist me, here is the MGADiag report.

From the looks of it you did a repair/reinstall using a Retail disk.

If the Key on your machine is for Windows 7 Home Premium - then that is what the machine is licensed for (and why anyone would wish to downgrade it to Home Basic is rather beyond me) - and you need to upgrade to the Home Premium install to get the Key to work. From what I can see of the Spec for the machine, the default is Home Premium.

From where did you purchase this?

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome! Before formatting the C drive, did you have a Windows OEM version - Windows preinstalled by HP with your computer. When you bought the computer initially, did it have Win 7 preinstalled OR you installed WIndows later ? If you have a product key, you can try to download WIndows 7 installational ISO image from Microsoft >> https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows7 Then, burn the image to a DVD and use to install Win 7.Post successful WIn 7 installation, you can download and use HP Supprot Assistant to get the latest updates from HP such as drivers updates.  Let me know if this works for you.

The problem which I faced is the same as the one given below:

partitioning problem

I bought a new HP laptop which came with 4 partitions all of which are Primary partitions. The c: drive came with a massive 445GB. But I do not want to use the same partition for all my needs so i was thinking of creating another two partitions. So i shrunk c: from the Disk Management leaving 320GB Unallocated space for usage. But when I tried to create a partition from I got the "changing to Dynamic disk" warning. Basically it's similar to the problem faced by the other person in the link posted above.

So I followed the post #8n by "Bare Foot Kid" and it went fine, the restarting and all till I tried creating a new volume. See the screenshots below:

BTW, I have no idea how it happened but Q: suddenly popped out of nowhere after the "max partitions error".

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my Vista Home Basic laptop communicating with my XP desktop. I have read several threads but I am still at a loss (forgive my lack of technical savvy)

My setup is as follows
1 XP desktop with printer
1 Vista Home Basic Laptop
1 Vista Home premium laptop
1 XP laptop

The issue however is just between the Vista Home Basic laptop and the XP machines(the Vista premium laptop works fine). The Home Basic machine cant 'see' the XP.

I have read that this Vista Home Basic to XP problem is not uncommon however I am still unable to resolve it and would greatly appreciate any help!

Is this a problem with the Norton firewall settings? Should I install LLTD on the XP machines? Anything else which may be causing it?

Many thanks in advance for any advice!

A:Vista Home Basic to XP networking problem - help greatly appreciated

Hi Ged2160

These are just a few thoughts to get the ball rolling ...

What happens if you disable Norton Firewall? If problem goes away, investigate Norton. If it doesn't, probably not relevant.

Install LLTD? Worthwhile for its own sake, but not relevant to your problem. I have a network of XP, NT4 and 98SE machines that works fine; they don't show up on Vista's network map in the proper place, that's all.

More thoughts ...

Is the Vista Basic machine in the same workgroup?

BTW, what service packs are on the XP machines? You need SP2 to be able to install LLTD, but it's included in SP3. However, even if you have LLTD installed, some network adaptors can't use it

It's that man again ...

Don't think it's just Home Basic that has problems networking, from my researches when trying to troubleshoot my own initial problems it seems to be pretty universal across versions.

I'm running Home Premium, so possibly not best placed to help you with this, but I don't believe there's any significant difference between the two as far as the basic networking setup is conncerned.

But, Vista is quite bizarre as far as displaying what's on the network is concerned. Tonight is typical; there are four network devices online, but if I open 'Network' from the Start Menu, only two (wired connection) are displayed - an NT4 PC and a NAS device (in both details, and folders, panes) - this (wired conection) PC doesn't appear! If I refresh the view, this PC appears (both panes). If I type (wireles... Read more

Over thanksgiving, i was called in to help my aunt's Thinkpad connect to the printer. She mentioned that she'd like windows 7 so i helped her get Windows Ultimate Steal using her .edu email address. It downloaded well, and we opened up the setup file. I was just leaving, so i told her to click upgrade when the prompt came. i received a call saying a dialog box popped up saying it could not upgrade from Vista Home basic, which she was apparantly running. Does anyone know of a solution or workaround to let her upgrade to Windows 7?

A:Windows Vista Home Basic

Which version of Win7 did she buy?

According to the upgrade matrix:

http://i.zdnet.com/blogs/windows_7_upgrade_chart.png

Vista Home Basic can be upgraded-in-place to Win7 Home Premium or Ultimate.

That only applies within the same addressing type: 32 bit can only be upgraded-in-place to 32 bit, 64 to 64.

An upgrade license can be used in other ways, but only with a custom (clean) install.

Hi,

I have recently bought LENOVO Z560 with pre-installed 32-bit Windows 7 Home Basic.

I want to know:
1) How can I upgrade to 64 bit Home Basic
2) How can I know/ get the PRODUCT KEY of my pre-installed 32 bit Home Basic
3) Do I need to pay extra amount if I upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit (as, I have heard that if I purchase, I will get 32 and 64 bit OS in a single pack only)
4) Will my existing set of drivers work fine with 64 bit Home Basic. If not, from where can I get the drivers

Thanks In Advance.

Regards,
Ajoy

Is it possible? I tried and it won't install.

A:Installing SAS in Windows 7 Home Basic

Welcome to Seven Forums ann16. It should install. Try downloading the installer again. Download to your desktop, and right click the installer and choose Run as administrator. If you are trying to install from a non administrator account, that would also be an issue. A Guy

Hi guys,

I am planning to build a Download rig using some old parts.

Config:

Processor: Intel Celeron 1.1Ghz Socket 370 SL5ZE
Motherboard: 810E unbranded mobo
Memory: 2x256MB SD RAM
Graphics Card: nVidia FX5200 128MB PCI
HDD: 40GB HDD or CF to IDE SSD & 500GB for Storage
OS: Windows 7 Home Basic x86

My queries are:

How much memory does Windows 7 Home Basic use & how much will I have free for other apps?

I have also tried Windows Thin PC on my Netbook.
When will ThinPC be released?

Thanks & regards,
Hariharan

A:Windows 7 Home Basic Questions

Windows 7 Home Basic uses about 300MB of RAM. There is currently no release date for Windows Thin PC.

A:Windows 7 Home Basic RECOVER

ArturSibgatulli Sorry, but HP does not provide downloads for their recovery media; instead, you have to order it from HP. In addition, HP no longer stocks recovery media for the older Win7 PCs. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/driversOnce there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update".  If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entty and click on Order Media for details.Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while! If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you can check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/  and http://www.restoredisks.com/ Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.-----------------------------------------------... There is a problem with a partitioning process. Firstly, I've installed Acronis Disk Director Suite and in manual mode I've started to create a new partition. My notebook had 3 partitions: main partition of ~300Gb with Windows installed, unknown "System" partition with "boot" flag of ~1.5Gb and recovery partition of ~8Gb. So I tried to create a new partition using the free space from the first one. After rebooting Acronis started to work, created a new partition and started to replace "HDDRECOVERY" partition. During this process, notebook had been shutdown (it was plugged into the socket) and after turning on, I noticed the next: after turning on and booting BIOS, the laptop is going to reboot again and again and again. Any ideas? P.S.: sorry for the very muddled description

Hi everyone.

I'm thinking of buying a cheap Windows 7 OS and that is Home Basic and I'm thinking that if I will regret buying only a Home Basic Windows 7?

For my use of my PC I'm just a moderate gamer and sometime edit pictures and videos. And I'm thinking that if I will miss something using only a HomeBasic.

It tells in the Product that it is and 32bit OEM. I heard that you can make it to 64bit.
If I will upgrade my 32bit to 64bit can I just download it in the internet or I will still need to buy it?

A:Windows 7 Home Basic is good enough?

Windows Home Premium is your first level of the Windows family. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/compare

Below Home Premuim is only preinstall in factory Home Starter and Home Basic. These version arent very common because its a strip version of Windows 7 Home Preemuim. I think that you cant buy Home Basic or Starter at retail shops they only sell the Home Premium
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions#Main_editions

I am suggesting Home Premium because its commonly for Home User or Professional is Business environment

32 bit is for 86 bit processors
64 bit is for 64 bit processors
OEM disc tie to your motherboard to that disc. Retail disc dont have that limitation

Depending on your hardware you can buy 32 or 64 bit version of Windows

I think if you buy retail has both versions 32,64 while OEM has to specified 32 or 64 versions
