Making a hardware for Windows7 compatible with Windows10 (Wifi card)

Q: Making a hardware for Windows7 compatible with Windows10 (Wifi card)

Hello everyone,

I just bought the Wireless N PCI Adapter (TL-WN851ND) from TP-LINK for my Windows 10 PC. It says that it's compatible for Windows 7/Vista/XP but it doesn't say Windows 10 on there. I thought that since it works on Windows 7, it will probably work on Windows 10 aswell, but since I inserted the card and have it running my computer freezes randomly and gives me a blue screen sometime later. The blue screen also says MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION. Sometimes when I turn the PC on it will freeze and go to the blue screen while loading Windows 10.

Is there any possible way to make this adapter compatible for Windows 10 without it freezing all the time which leads to me having to reboot the computer over and over again?

Preferred Solution: Making a hardware for Windows7 compatible with Windows10 (Wifi card)

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Making a hardware for Windows7 compatible with Windows10 (Wifi card)

When I tried to install the driver that came with the hardware it said that it doesn't work on this operating system (Windows 10).
I installed a different random driver that I found in the internet, but it still freezes every now and then.

can the flex 2 14 inch wifi card be user upgraded to 802.11AC compatible wifi card, and if so could you tell me the compatible part?  is it dual band? Thanks in advance, that is the thing holding me from making a purchase before the April 1st deadline of current sale.

A:can Flex 2 14 wifi card be upgraded to AC compatible card?

Three years late.  The answer is "Yes!" The Lenovo Flex 2 14/15 can be upgraded with a compatible wireless-AC card. The card detailed below can be installed successfully in the Flex 2-14 and it's pretty much a plug-n-play device under Windows 10. Drivers are installed automagically so that the 2GHz and 5GHz wireless and Bluetooth can be accessed. I have two Lenovo Flex 2 laptops each running this exact wireless card. Make sure the wireless card you install matches the details listed below. Or else you'll get an "incompatible wireless module detected" error message when you try to boot the laptop. Name: Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC 3160Model: 3160NGWFCC ID: PD93160NGUTA: H45043-003FRU: 04X6076EC: 770009 A genuine "Lenovo branded" Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC 3160 wireless card can be purchased from: http://us.eetgroup.com/i/04X6076-Lenovo-Wireless-Module I've attached a picture of the correct wireless card.

I bought a new tower computer preinstalled with Windows10 to replace one with Windows 7 that is unfixable. I have two other laptops, one vista, one windows xp. I don't want to incur any problems with incompatibility issues. What do I have to do with old computer re windows 7 to then install that windows 7 on the new computer? Can this even be done? If it can, how do I set up a new partition? These are a few of the questions I have.

A:Downgrading from Windows10 to Windows7

Having a little trouble understanding exactly what you want to do. Do you want to install Windows 7 on the new computer and use the Product Key that is/was on the defunct computer? If so ...

You can do that if the Windows 7 is Retail. Most times it turns out to be OEM--either preinstalled on a PC from somebody like Acer, Dell, HP, etc., or else OEM System Builder's preinstalled on a custom build. OEM versions cannot be transferred to another computer.

Of course, before proceeding you want to check to make sure that Windows 7 drivers are provided for your new PC.

Okay let me explain my issue hopefully clearer. My desktop computer used Windows 7. I had Microsoft Office 2007 on it and used Excel for my personal finances. I backed up my entire computer on an external hard drive(WD My Passport). My finances also backed up on a flash drive. My computer crashed. My new desktop uses Windows 10. I have tried to open the flash drive and it comes up stating it cannot read Word 2007. Any suggestions?

A:Data transfer from Windows7 to Windows10

Hi MELG8, and welcome to TSG.

Are your finance files saved to the flash drive as individual MS-Word and MS-Excel documents?

Are you having problems opening the flash drive to view the list of files saved on it or opening the files that are saved on it?

Did you install MS-Office 2007 or newer on your new computer?

So I bought my laptop, a Pavilion 17-f113dx a little over 3 years ago.  I am swapping the drive for an ssd drive and I thought while I go to all the trouble of disassembling the laptop that I would change out the wifi card with a dual wifi/bluetooth card to improve wireless performance. I understand that there may be a whitelist in the bios of compatabile cards for a laptop this old.  Where would I be able to find that list?  Or is there a solution short of installing a hacked bios?

A:Compatible wifi dual card for 17-f113dx

Hi: There is no whitelist, but there is almost a bigger problem... 1. The notebook requires extensive disassembly to get to the wireless card.  If you can overcome that, then #2 is the killer. 2.  On most of these newer HP notebooks with single band wlan cards, there is only one antenna connected to the card, and there isn't a second one present. A dual band card such as the Intel 7260 N or AC requires 2 antennas to work. It will take even more disassembly including the display panel area to run the 2nd antenna. Do not rely on the picture in the service manual which normally shows two antennas. You will need to physically inspect your notebook's situation before buying a replacement card. If it has two antennas, then you are good to go. I would recommend the Intel 7260 dual band N or AC card for your 3 year old notebook.

My fiancee and I currently have the Dell Inspiron 17R SE laptop with the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230, and it has worked for a few months now up until the Monday of last week. While on the internet, my fiancee was noticing her wifi speed slowed down to a crawl. She performed speed tests to find out that the speed was not as high as it used to be. She updated drivers for the computer, as well as removed any clutter that would cause the wifi slowdown.
When we tried many options, they did not give us the results that we were looking for. Finally, after some process of elimination, we concluded that our wifi card needed a replacement. I don't want to get any old card to use and then find out that it doesn't fit or is not compatible with Windows 10. I have been taking my time to research what could be compatible to improve my laptop computer, but I have been coming up short.

What I would like to know is what wifi cards are compatible with our Dell computer so that we can get this replaced as soon as possible without having to pay out the nose for unneeded computer repair?

Hi Guys,

I'm currently trying to work out a problem regarding my WiFi card on my L670-14M.

The old Wifi card died on us, so I decided to buy a Intel 7620 card to replace it. This installed fine, and is recognized by the device manager, and I can now find the wifi card in the adapter settings menu.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to go any further. The wireless logo in the corner appears, but with a red "X" through it.

I've tried:
Disabling and enabling the cardUsing the FN+F8 key combinationUpdating the BIOSRunning the troubleshooter (It tells me to switch on the WiFi capabilities via a switch on the computer or the FN keys. I have no switch and the FN key combination doesn't work.I've also attempted to clear the TCP/IP stack to no avail.

All I can guess now is that the card is either incompatible with this laptop, or maybe there's something in the registry that could be changed/removed to help? I've tried several different cards too (as this is a work laptop and we've bought the cards in bulk) and it's not due to a faulty card.

I was working on setting up an outdoor WiFi antenna a couple of days ago when my problems started. I was working in Win7, which I had not been using that often. My LAN connection was not working, and I realized the driver had not been installed. I downloaded it from Dell?s website and installed it. I received an error message about SNMP service not being installed. I turned the service from disabled to auto. I do not know if my LAN adapter is now working. That is my first problem. My second problem happened when even though my WiFi card had been working fine, I decided to see if its driver had been updated. It was not. I believe a Microsoft driver was installed. It was working just fine though (smile), so I had to mess with it. I downloaded the driver from Del??s website and installed it. That is when my problems started. The WiFi card has not worked since. First I realized I installed the wrong driver. I uninstalled it and installed the correct one. I even restored the system to before I messed with any drivers. No luck. My WiFi card still does not work. The iNtel utility states it fails the hardware test and passes the driver test. Windows 7 states it cannot find any wireless networks (if I switch to XP Pro everything works). I am at a loss and very frustrated. Can anyone help me please?

I'm trying to help a friend recover his Windows XP (Professional) Asus Aspire 3000 laptop, which is getting a BSOD Code 'ED' (Unmountable Boot Volume). Months earlier, he had someone else recover by reinstalling Windows XP. In the process, that person blew away the recovery partition which came with the PC when new. I am able to run Linux Mint from a live CD with no problems; everything functions. The person who reinstalled Windows changed 'boot.ini', so, from Linux, I renamed the backup of the old 'boot.ini' and tried that, but I received the same BSOD code.

I have 2 systems of my own, but both are Win7 (1 Starter, 1 Home Premium), and I created recovery DVDs for both. I am considering booting my Win7 Starter recovery DVD on the Asus and running 'chkdsk' and 'fixmbr', which leads to 3 questions:

1) Are 'chkdsk' and 'fixmbr' available on the Recovery system?
2) If I do run 'fixmbr' from the Win7(Starter) recovery DVD, will the MBR still be usable on the XP system?
3) Is the MBR displayable and, if so, which utility should I use to view it?

I am running a surface test on the Asus as I type this, using a bootable utilities CD (Super FDisk). In the end, if the hard drive isn't toast, it appears that we might have to reformat and reinstall Windows XP, but I personally don't have a copy of XP Pro (and the owner of the Asus lost his), so I was hoping for a simpler fix. Of course, my stab at a solution might not even be in the ballpark. Opinions appreciated.

A:Is Windows7 (Starter) MBR compatible with Windows XP MBR?

The XP and Vista/7 MBRs are incompatible with each other. However, using a Vista or 7 DVD to fix an XP system's MBR is no problem at all.

Once you boot from the DVD and get to the command prompt, type bootsect /nt52 [XP drive letter:] - for example, bootsect /nt52 E:.

Detailed usage instructions for the bootsect command are here: Bootsect Command-Line Options

A:Visiontek HD3650 AGP 1GB compatible with Windows7 SP!?

cmjone, welcome to the Seven Forums.

With an AMD AGP card you need to use the AGP hotfix driver,

AMD Catalyst

It would also help to know the full make and model of the motherboard. You will also need a working AGP driver (part of the chipset, not part of the video card driver) for the video card driver to install and work properly. Depending on which chipset is on the motherboard there are times where it takes using the last XP (or Vista if one is available) driver to gets things working, as the native one in Windows 7 doesn't always work out (it is more of a generic driver than chipset specific).

I don't think XP has any BCD commands. You will probably need to boot to the Install DVD or Repair CD and run from there. You can run some commands with the Win 7 Install DVD in the drive, but they are accessible in the boot folder on the DVD.

If you want to share you situation, let us know. A snipping tool picture of your Disk Management window attached will help.

Started having issues with hangups and slowness and decided to do a Windows10 Reset.  After the reset I no longer have WIFI or sound.  Have uninstalled and installed drivers numerous times to no avail.  Also had GeekSquad involved and they could not resolve the issue.  An external WIFI does work, but nothing I do helps the sound issue.  Purchased with windows 8 installed, had them install 8.1 immediately then went to Windows 10 free upgrade and then when the yearly update came out I lost my WIFI, but still had sound. Purchased external WIFI and that works OK. Note: I have had WIFI issues from day one. GeekSquad couldn't resolve it, so I played around and did many things found on the internet as possible solutions and finally it stabilized or MS pushed patch, don't know what really fixed it.   It wasn't until the yearly update came out that I lost my internal WIFI and had to buy the external.

I have a laptop INSPIRON E1705 with a WLAN card (p/n DW 1390) installed. I would like to replace it with a WiFi/Bluetooth combo card so I can have Bluetooth capability. What is the recommended card to buy that is compatible with Windows 10?

A:Replace WiFi PCIe card with WiFi/Bluetooth combo card.

Given that there will be no antenna inside the system for bluetooth, you're better off with one of these:

Hi all, i decided to build a computer and have settled on the following:

BIOSTAR NF520-A2 SE AM2 NVIDIA nForce 520D ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 1640B 2.7GHz 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 45W
Single-Core Processor - OEM
Kingston 512MB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop
Memory - OEM

This is my first time building a computer and I was wondering if these are all compatible, I already have hard drives, and a case from a previous computer and i think I've covered all my bases but it would be great if someone could double check so I don't look like a complete idiot when I by incompatible hardware, thanks.

A:Compatible Hardware

As the topic for this section includes the words "and is NOT a computer", ask the mods to shift the post to hardware. You will get better help there.

hi ph031,
If you're trying to connect to a wireless network but is getting the message "wireless capability is turned off", can you try and check the following:
1. Press the Windows key? +R, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter, On the Device Manager,  verify that the wireless card is detected and has no error.
   - Sample image
2. Ensure that the physical wireless switch is ON
   - Link to picture
3. Press FN+F5 and ensure that the Wireless Current Status is set to ON.
   - Link to picture
When done, check if you can now see and connect to your wireless hotspot.
Lenovo Energy Management must be installed for you to see the image in Step 3
