Yoga 720 fingerprint reader no longer working (Windows 10 Spring 2018 update)

Q: Yoga 720 fingerprint reader no longer working (Windows 10 Spring 2018 update)

Yay, another major windows update... another round of driver problems! Fun! After yesterday's big Windows update (Windows 10 version 1803, aka the Spring 2018 feature update) the Synaptics fingerprint reader doesn't work. Uninstalling and re-intalling the driver didn't fix anything. Device manager says:This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful. Has anyone found a work around? Thank you. setup:YOGA 720-15IKB Signature EditionWindows 10 1803 (OS Build 17134.1)newest fingerprint reader drivers straight from the website

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

After upgrading Windows 10 to the April 2018 Update (Windows version 1803), Windows Hello is no longer available on my Lenovo X1 Carbon 5th Generation ultrabook, and drivers for the Synaptics WBD (SGX enabled) biometric fingerprint reader show as failing to load in Device Manager.  This is despite registry settings, group policies, and a PIN being set up to enable biometric scanning (the fingerprint scanner worked previously). Is anyone able to assist to enable the Windows Hello fingerprint scanner under Windows 10 version 1803? Thank you.

Greetings fellow Thinkpadders. I received my X1C6 about two weeks ago, and all is well except the fingerprint reader. I am patched up to date according to both Windows Update and Vantage, and that has included two BIOS updates since I first unboxed it. The fingerprint reader does not come back after a sleep or hibernate. That is, if I Restart, I can log in with my fingerprint -- the white LED is on and so forth. But if I suspend and resume, no white LED, and fingerprint doesn't work at Windows Logon -- I have to use my PIN or password. Vantage's hardware scan shows nothing wrong. Any hints or advice appreciated. Serial# PF0YSFED, Product# 20KH002KUS, BIOS N23ET37W 1.12, Windows 10.0.16299 (Build 16299)

Hi all, I recently purchased a ThinkPad E550 (20DF0040US) and the Fingerprint reader (Synaptics) was working when I first set up the machine but now, after a week's worth of ownership, it is no longer recognized. I searched the forums here and found that an older driver worked to solve the problem for others but it did not solve the issue for me. I tried to reinstall the most up to date driver and that didn't solve the issue either. I am running Windows 7 Pro which came installed on the machine. Some users indicated that Windows updates are the culprit but I cannot confirm this. All my Windows updates are current and there are no updates pending from Lenovo. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Windows update caused this problem on 22-12-2008 and I noticed this error last week.

Problem with Video Driver :
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Video Driver - 7.15.11.5682
This is the video driver version for my HP tablet(HP Website). But windows update installed the latest version(7.15.11.7770) from NVIDIA. From that time onwards, my touch screen stopped working.
I contacted HP care and they advised me to follow these steps.
1) Uninstall the latest driver and install the 7.15.11.5682 driver by giving the video driver (devicemanager ->display adapter -> Nvidia 6150 -> uninstall)
2) Bios Flash (they provided the software)
3) Calibrate
I am done with the first two steps but still my touch screen is not recognizing the pen. So I couldn't calibrate.
When I contacted the HP care again, they are telling it may be because of hardware failure. My notebook is working perfectly except this touchscreen problem.

Again they asked me to do the driver installation in safe mode.
(Add/Remove Programs -> Remove only display adapter)
Driver installed successfully but in device manager it is showing the latest version.
I tried two times, but couldn't help. I can't install the older driver. pls help.

Hi
Have seen several posts but no solutions. After a windows 10 update a couple of months ago, the fingerprint scanner stopped working. It recognises me but then says "your credentials could not be confirmed".
Microsoft have sent endless messages blaming the driver, the scanner etc etc. Finally they say it is an issue with the update, but they have not solution at this time. Good old Microsoft and their helpful updates, which you cannot avoid.
Anyone have the same problem and how did you fix it??
Thanks

Hello Lenovo team, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 370 (20JH0023US) less than a year old, since we set it up out of the box, we have been unable to get the fingerprint reader to function. In Device Manager, it shows the device cannot start (Code 10). We have uninstalled, reinstalled with the latest drivers, performed a BIOS update. When we try to clear the Fingerprint data in the BIOS, it sits as "Resetting Fingerprint Data" and gets no further. We have also replaced the Fingerprint reader itself (under warranty) on the keyboard bezel and it is still not working. Can anyone assist in helping us get this working? Is it possible it's a bad factory image of Windows and maybe we should do a reset? Thanks in advance!

Hello. . .
I use the fingerprint reader to login to my Latitude E5550 every time.  However, I was unable to do so after the latest Windows 10 update (version 1607).

It did still show in the Windows Device Manager (i.e., no "Unknown Device" listed)
I went into the DDP Console to try to register a new fingerprint (for troubleshooting), but it wasn't reading the swipes
I attempted to update to the latest firmware/drivers, but that only caused unknown devices to show up in the Device Manager (ControlVault Firmware v3.3.15.0 and ControlVault Drivers v3.3.14.68)
Switched back to the older driver (v3.0.48.26) and all devices were once again recognized

Any suggestions for how to get around this?  It's not the end of the world, but I *really* like using the fingerprint reader (I paid extra for) to login.  If I can provide additional helpful information, please let me know.
Thanks!

Okey!  Few rounds around the Internet got me absolutely nowhere. Lenovo said that it was a known problem and the only way to fix it is to do a factory reset.... BULLS** is my response to that. Anything software related can be fixed without nuking your system. So i refused to give up and with a bit of trial and error i found a way. You have to tie your Microsoft account to a pin AGAIN! Even if you already had one. I guess the account is tied to your hardware somehow. Here are simple steps to fix it:  1. Make shure to Activate and Resett fingerprint reader in the BIOS Reboot and enter the BIOS (f1 during boot) Go to Security > fingerprint Make sure Predesktop Authentication is [Enabled]And to to "Reset Fingerprint Data" and press [Enter] to reset Save and exit   2. Make shure drivers are up to date and working Run Lenovo Vantage (windows store) to make sure your running the latest drivers for everything including the fingerprint reader. You can also download the drivers directly form Lenovos product support page, but Vantage actually works (so Kudos to Lenovo for that one). After that check you device manager if the driver is running currently. Like this: (Start menu > type "device manager")Like this... Good evening, my fingerprint reader/simplepass stopped working after my computer received an update this past tuesday. Let me give you a timeline of event. I tried to reinstall simplepass- it would not let me do it because I was told to remove aunthentec driver. I wasn't able to remove authentec driver in the begining, so I used the instructions in another post and did it via the registry. I tried to reinstall simplepass, it would not allow me to do it, saying I already had a software that perform the same function. tried system restore, failed about 6 times. deleted all programs and restarted to download simplepass and it worked, however, It is not the one that uses fingerprint data. I tried to reinstall my old simplepass, and it work This is the error I get after I finally was able to reinstall simplepass "The truesuite engine failed to initialize properly. Restarting the application, restarting the computer, or reinstalling the application may fix this problem. The application must now exit" so, how can I find the truesuite engine? thanks

I've now tried installing the Windows 10 Pro Creator's Update twice, and both times my fingerprint reader stopped working for Windows Hello. I just get "Your credentials could not be verified". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver (and I'm on the latest), removing and re-registering my fingerprint, and I've also tried the trick I saw suggested elsewhere of switching to a local account, then back to a Microsoft account. That works temporarily but as soon as I switch back to my MS account, it breaks again. I've rooted around the BIOS but everything seems fine. I have the same fingerprint set on startup and that still works fine; Windows just doesn't recognize it, either when it's passed on from the BIOS or when I try to do it again manually. Has anyone had this problem and managed to fix it *without* reverting permanently to a local account? I don't see why that should be necessary and it definitely isn't supposed to be. I have reverted back to the Anniversary Update both times because of this issue.

When I click on it to see more information it appears this message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. I do not have the option to roll back the driver so I can't make it work again. I checked and it is the last driver available so far but it doesn't work. By the way I have the same exclamation mark and the same message of error in the driver "system interface foundation driver", code 31..., is there any link with it?I've already re installed windows twice through the option "reset this pc" from the configuration menu, one without deleting my files and the other removing all, but I still had the same issue with the fingerprint reader since the beginning of the new start, it didn't work. Okay, random weird problem that defies logic. I was busy doing stuff using Google Chrome (logged in on Facebook, trying to browse Newegg, etc.) and I tried logging in to my Newegg account using HP SimplePass, which uses the fingerprint reader technology to log you in to a bunch of different sites. However, this time around, Chrome crashed because HP SimplePass crashed.

I figured it would be best to reboot my system to clear out whatever was going on. However, upon rebooting, I get the "Device driver install yada yada" message that pops up, then it says driver installation failed. Going into device manager reveals that there is an unknown USB device attached (meaning, the fingerprint reader).

I've tried several times to install the driver for the fingerprint reader from HP (which originally had worked just fine). Now, it will not install. No amount of removing the driver and reinstalling it seems to be working, and I'm at my wits end. However, HP SimplePass installs just fine, but since it can't detect the fingerprint reader, it works by remembering typed passwords.

I'd rather NOT have to reinstall Windows if I can help it, but if anyone here has any suggestions that I could try to get this thing to work, that would be great. Thank you!

However, I'm using a P51 at work and the fingerprint sensor actually works fine >95% of the time, so I was wondering if this is an issue specific to my X1 Yoga and if I should return it. Does anyone else share the same problem?

Is it possible to use the X1-Yoga fingerprint reader (that works for system logins through Windows Hello) to authenticate on websites?  If it will not work natively, is there some other program that will do this? The following link seems to indicate that it IS supported...but not on Windows 10. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht037692 Thanks.

So, I've gone through this cycle several (too many) times over the month of owning this laptop. I'll save several fingerprint profiles (the first 2 fingers on each hand). But whenever I try to log in and happen to "misfire" with my finger and get the alternative login prompt, I find that I can no longer use that particular finger any longer in futire attempts, as if it's chosen to "forget" that profile. But I can use any of the other fingers I've saved just fine. Problem only seems to be corrected by resaving the "forgotten" finger as a new profile again. I honestly may be assuming incorrectly that this is initiated by a "misfire" (and by that I mean not landing my finger precisely on the sensor, picking up too fast, whatever). It might be that the attempt didn't cause the profile to be lost, but that it was lost for some other reason and the attempt was just the first failed attempt. All I know is that it happens.
