Windows 7 Networking Issue to a Server 2012 Server with File Share

Q: Windows 7 Networking Issue to a Server 2012 Server with File Share

The following Structure is a representation;
PC1 - IP 10.0.0.10 - FQDN PC1.DOM.LOCAL
PC2 - IP 10.0.0.20 - FQDN PC2.DOM.LOCAL
SRV1 - IP 10.0.0.5 - FQDN SRV1.DOM.LOCAL - File Share 'FLDR1' / USR1<ReadOnly>

SRV1 has a folder, FLDR1, being shared for read only access to user USR1.

PC1 and PC2 logged on as Domain User USR1.
PC1 is able to connect to SRV1 to see and look in FLDR1.
PC2 is unable to connect to SRV1 to see and look in FLDR1.
Now there are multiple means of connecting to SRV1 to see the share FLDR1.

The following connections were done in combination with the following methods;
Method 1 - via logged on Domain User CMD Prompt with 'NET VIEW'.
Method 2 - via logged on Domain Administrator CMD Prompt with 'NET VIEW'.
Method 3 - via logged on Domain User Explorer Window.
Method 4 - via logged on Domain Administrator Explorer Window.

Connection 1 - via Server Name.
Connection 2 - via Server IP Address.
Connection 3 - via Server Fully Qualified Domain Name.

Now that the stage is set, going to the fun part...

Testing from both PC1 and PC2...
-------------------------------------------
PC1 : Method 1 - Connection 1 - Success
PC1 : Method 1 - Connection 2 - Success
PC1 : Method 1 - Connection 3 - Success
PC1 : Method 2 - Connection 1 - Success
PC1 : Method 2 - Connection 2 - Success
PC1 : Method 2 - Connection 3 - Success
PC1 : Method 3 - Connection 1 - Success
PC1 : Method 3 - Connection 2 - Success
PC1 : Method 3 - Connection 3 - Success
PC1 : Method 4 - Connection 1 - Success
PC1 : Method 4 - Connection 2 - Success
PC1 : Method 4 - Connection 3 - Success
-------------------------------------------
PC2 : Method 1 - Connection 1 - Fail
PC2 : Method 1 - Connection 2 - Success
PC2 : Method 1 - Connection 3 - Fail
PC2 : Method 2 - Connection 1 - Success
PC2 : Method 2 - Connection 2 - Success
PC2 : Method 2 - Connection 3 - Success
PC2 : Method 3 - Connection 1 - Fail
PC2 : Method 3 - Connection 2 - Success
PC2 : Method 3 - Connection 3 - Fail
PC2 : Method 4 - Connection 1 - Success
PC2 : Method 4 - Connection 2 - Success
PC2 : Method 4 - Connection 3 - Success
-------------------------------------------

PC1 and PC2 being logged in as USR1, PC1 is able to connect to the SRV1 share FLDR1.
PC2 is unable to connect to SRV1 except by IP Address, as shown in the tests above, but as for data connection, for some reason it is very slow even though it is on a 1Gb line. All failures are given in response to Access Denied Error 5.

This issue persists after I reboot PC2 and after I remove USR1 user profile. I have also tried changing the IP address of the PC and still no resolution.
Also, no local PC accounts such as .\Administrator or .\Guest can be used to view our shares as we have removed 'Everyone' from the permissions and have selected 'Domain Users' group in place of it. If you are not in our domain, you will not have access
to our shares, even if you are on our network.

This issue also just started this past week. I have looked for a resolution to this issue and am unable to find one that works. In reality we have 38 PCs on our floor that use a single user to get to this single folder to run an application and only one
of them is giving this issue. I'm almost getting ready to rebuild the issue PC from scratch with the image of the other machines. Also, the imaging isn't the issue either since I've used the same image and software package for the past two years
on this group of machines and this particular machine was in the second batch out of six deployed.

Any other suggestions are welcome.

I've got a strange problem dealing with a 2012 R2 share.  We have a lab with 30 Windows 7 Enterprise workstations.  They all have the same desktop via a GPO applied folder redirection to a share on the above mentioned 2012 R2 server.  All
but 4 of them can connect and pull the desktop with the appropriate shortcuts, network folders, etc.

So the share permissions have no explicit denies.  In an effort to resolve this issue I've added both Everyone and Authenticated Users with Read permissions on top of the appropriate AD Group object that already had Read permissions and of
course SYSTEM and Domain Admins with Full Control.  The NTFS permissions have of course CREATOR OWNER, SYSTEM, and Domain Admins with Full Control.  The appropriate AD Group also has Read permissions.  No explicit NTFS denies either.

Using either the same account that belongs to the appropriate AD Group or my Domain Admin account (which doesn't have the redirected desktop) I can login to all workstations and all but the above mentioned four get the folder redirected desktop.
When I authenticate with my DA account and try to connect to the share on those four computers I get the same error the user gets:

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.

Dear Team,
I have two server DC1 (main domain controlller) and DC2(Additional Domain controller). My main domain controller was having some issue so i seized all roles to DC2 so it can work as domain controller. Now i fixed DC1 and trying to make it Additional domain
controller but unable to connect it. Even i have mentioned ip address of DC2 in preferred DNS. Please find the error below while joining DC1 to domain.

Note: This information is intended for a network administrator.  If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt.

The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "ce-nai.com":

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.ce-nai.com

Common causes of this error include the following:

- The DNS SRV records required to locate a AD DC for the domain are not registered in DNS. These records are registered with a DNS server automatically when a AD DC is added to a domain. They are updated by the AD DC at set intervals. This computer is configured
to use DNS servers with the following IP addresses:

Hello,
I created the following performance counter using logman.exe.

logman.exe create counter US_Triton_Perf_Log -b 9/23/2015 09:30:00 -e 9/30/2099 18:30:00 -r -s $server -si $frequence -cf $folder\$server.txt -f $logtype  -o C:\local\logs\Perfout_$Server --a -v mmddhhmm  -rf  $max_duration

When I do this across multiple servers specifically for Windows Servers 2008/2012, the counter is created to repeat and run everyday at 930PM and stops running everyday at 430PM. This works perfectly fine as intended. However, When I do this for a Windows
2003 server, my created counter is very different.
For example, in this case, I have set to the counters to start at 930AM and end at 1830PM, because I have set a maximum duration of 9 hours, the job terminates and begins on the next day, since I have the repeat option on. However, this does not apply to
our 2003 server; logman creates the job to run once a week in this case it would be on a Wednesday. In addiiton, I noticed that the job doesn't not even start at it's indented time. It actually does not start at all. I also notice that the jobs on all windows
2003 servers are created in a pending status, which then prevents me from removing the counter remotely.

I would like to know if windows 2003 is capable of working like my win 2008/2012 servers using logman, and if historically, the job has to be kicked off through scheduled task.

Both Jobs are using the same criteria, but a... Read more

Hello all,

Over the weekend it seems that one of my Windows 7 computers here where I work lost connectivity with our file server.

Workstation:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Pentium Dual Core
3GB RAM

Server:
Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64
Intel Core 2 Duo
8GB RAM

It never had issues connecting with the share before now. Now every time I try to connect it to the share, it tells me that the password for the account is invalid. As the account for the workstation had no encrypted or protected files on the server, I just went and reset the password to make sure it hadnt gotten changed some how. This however did not fix the issue. The computer is able to access the internet and see that the server indeed exists on the network, but for what ever reason is not able to access the share any longer.

Any ideas?

we have two win 7 laptops within our enviroment (one with the CEO and one with the CFO) and one of them is able to connect to the specific drive. the drive location is a mapped network drive and when he logs into the network he can see the 'map' ie "share on \\server2000" but all the folders have a grey 'x' over them and when he tries to open them he gets a error: "network drive location is not availible"

Hello, I'm new to the forum and have been struggling with what I hope is a simple networking issue for quite some time. I'm finally coming to the experts for some backup! I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to networking as well so please bare with me. Here is the issue:

We have a small network of computers running various OS, XP, Windows 2000, Windows 7 which all connect to a server running Windows Server 2000. All computers connect to the server flawlessly will full permissions to copy edit print save, etc. EXCEPT for the desktops running Windows 7.

The issue we experience with Windows 7 are two-fold when it comes down to it:

1. We can't open Office documents (we all run Office 2010) unless we open them with Open Office.

2. Can't copy any file from the server to our desktop (we can open pdfs and images and save them to our desktop however!)

I've poured through the forum and online for solutions and have tried quite a few things: taking ownership of the folders/files, making sure full permissions have been granted on the server for my specific adminsitrator user account, etc. all with the same result.

It's a weird thing to me. I can see the files on the server, the server can see my files. All other paths talk fine to each other it's only between the Windows 7 and the Windows Server 2000. Sorry for the long post, ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've run into an issue several times when trying to copy an entire share from one server to another. In this case, it happens to be from a Mac to a Windows server (just in case that's relative to the problem). The command I was using is:

robocopy \\MacDASD\Boards \\SRVRWIN78\Boards /S /FFT /XJ /R:1 /W:5 /V /TS /TEE /L

This runs fine, showing all the files and subfolders from the Mac's 'Boards' share that would have been copied. However, once the '/L' is removed to actually run the command I get 'ERROR 2 (0x00000002) Accessing Source Directory \\MacDASD\Boards. Running Robocopy for each of the subfolders under the 'Boards' share, however, works fine. It seems it just can't do the entire share at once. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Robocopying an entire share from server to server gets error 2

A quick search indicates error 2 could be:
- Some Extra files or directories were detected. Examine the output log.
- The system cannot find the file specified.

You could try to increase the retry parameter from /R:1 to a higher value.

I also found this but I don't know if it's correct or not, nor if error, exit codes and errorlevel are equal values:
Note also that bit 0x02 simply indicates that there are files at the destination that are not present at the source. This will happen if the /E switch is used and files have been deleted from the source since a previous copy was taken. It should not happen if the /MIR switch is used because that should delete files at the destination to mirror the source (but I haven't tested this).

I am running a weather program (AS2012) on a client for Flight Simulator X (FSX) on the server. The client connects to the server by Simconnect.
Both machines run W7 Home Premium x64 and I run them with full Administrator permissions.

The SimConnect.ini file is located in a folder on the server:  C:\Users\FSX_XPlane\My Documents\Flight Simulator X\
This is shared across the network with Full Control for Everyone. The owner is FSX_XPlane.

I can access and open the simconnect.ini file from the client.

When I run the weather program on the client it does not connect to FSX on the server.  The system log shows that the path to the simconnect.ini file is not set (attached - time 23:06:44:0096).
The other required simconnect file paths are correctly identified.

If anyone can suggest an explanation for this, and a fix, I'd be grateful.

Hello to all,

I've looked high and low for an answer to my question and I'm here now due to not finding answers via Google.

We're in a small office environment and we have a new Win 7 Pro computer acting as a file server. There is a Z drive mapped to all office computers with all general info for day to day business. I would like to set up a shared folder for accounting on the file server. There are 3 people who will need access to this folder and when mapping to it it must require a password and perhaps other credentials although that may not be necessary (not sure at this point). Naturally, any accounting info needs to stay out of sight of other employees except for management and accountants.

It is needed to set up other folders for sharing with other departments and access to them should be protected with a different password (or must it be the same password?).

Also, the procedure to get this working would be the same would it not if we want to share folders from any other computer on the network and map a network drive (shared folder) via another computer on the network?

I should mention that all computers on the network have user accounts and passwords.

Also, in Network and Sharing Center / Advanced Sharing Settings:

network discovery is on
file and printer sharing is on
public folder access is on
128 bit encryption is on
password protected sharing is on
use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers is on

A:Win 7 Pro File Server, want to share folders with different passwords

There is a tutorial for this that may be helpful.

You would need to have standard user accounts for the users who require access to files on the server. This method might only work when all the user accounts are located on the same machine.

I'm not so sure that password protected file sharing works as it should. In my experience it doesn't work very well.

You may have a better chance by following the tutorial for NTFS file sharing via the following link. It's fairly complicated at first but this method does work.

Hello,

I have a problem to access file server on Windows Server 2000 from a Windows 7 PC. For your information, due to some reasons, both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are in different domain.

I have tried all suggested solutions which are :
i. to unchecked both attributes in 'Network Security : Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC)' for both clients and server.
ii. to apply 'Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated' in 'Network Security : LAN Manager authentication level'
iii. to make sure the time setting for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are the same.

But still, i couldn't access the file server. In fact, each time I entered domain\username to authenticate, it will give out this message :

Since I am kinda new to this troubleshooting things, it would be great if someone can tell me why does this happening. Is it because of the different domain?

thanks in advance.

A:Windows 7 unable to Access file server on Windows Server 2000

To connect to the server you would need to enter the credentials of the domain user on the server that would have access. For example if the domain was 'home' with a user 'Josh' then I would put:

home\Josh

As the username. If you want to get advanced you could try and form a trust with the other domain in active directory so that the other domain has permission to access the server

of the file uploaded is incorrect. For example if I upload a file modified 10:37:10 PM it becomes 5:37:00 PM on the FTP site. It is always 5 hours earlier, and truncates the seconds. This makes version control of files difficult. Is there some configuration
change that can fix this, or is this a Windows Server issue? The server time is configured for the Central time zone in The United States.

Hello 8forums,

Really great forum here and I'm glad to join. If I posted this in the wrong section I apologize.

Okay now here's my problem. I'm currently trying to setup Windows Server 2012 for my dad. The main thing it will be used for is storage of movies, photos and backing up Excel documents for work. This is a copy a friend burned him onto a disk and is currently NOT activated. He wanted to check it out before purchasing the license. I have installed it onto an old HP Pavilion a1640n and everything went fine with installation but, now that it is installed I cannot connect his Win8 computer to it. I have Googled this and found a method but, it doesn't work. I'm told to open a browser and enter in the address bar " HTTP://Server-name/connect " (Server-name replaced with then name of his server) and I should get a connector software download page. I do not get this software download page I just get a server not found page. I have tried entering other possibilities into the address bar, too (192.168.0.xxx/connect, adding .com etc.) nothing works. If I can get any help with this it would be appreciated.

I have tried:

Completely reinstalled Windows Server 2012
Reinstalled Ethernet drivers on the WS2012 box

Things they may be causing the problem:

As I said the Windows Server 2012 is not activated.
The WS2012 box is stuck on public network type and the W8 box is stuck on private network type.
The WS2012 box does not show up on my network on the W8 box but,... Read more

Hi
I have recently installed a server 2012 and configured remote access and users are able to access RDP from all clients. Recently Windows 7 machines are not able to access the remote desktop, its shows an error "This computer can't connect to the remote
computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator. " I have disabled the network level authentication from local policy but the issue still exists.
Windows 10 machines are able to connect the remote desktop.
Please help me to resolve the same.
Thanks.

What version of server 2012 do you have? Also what client operating systems do you have? Windows 7 Home premium, professional, ultimate?

This can affect what services you can offer to clients.

Hey guys,

This is the first time using the forum so I apologize if this has been put in the incorrect place. My brother recently installed Hyper V Server 2012 r2, which boots up everytime I start my laptop. I just want help in how to completely remove the software and help get back my Windows 8. Neither me or him know how to get back to windows 8.

Thanks in advance guys.

A:Help with Windows Hyper V Server 2012 R2

Well, you must have a bootable Windows 8 DVD or USB. Go to the BIOS settings, select to have the DVD or USB device as first device. Then it should say "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." if you have a DVD or it will show the OEM or Windows logo directly (USB). When you are prompted for the installation type, choose Custom. Make sure you have backed up your files. Delete every partition of Disk 0 and then choose the Unallocated Space to install.

I hope this helps you.

Hi: Try the windows 8 graphics driver from the notebook's support page. That would be the only suggestion I can offer.

Recently, Microsoft included the Windows Server 2012 R2 RTM on their Dreamspark basic site. Currently, I'm running the R1 version on a virtual machine using VMware Player. How can I upgrade the R1 to R2 while keeping all of my files and settings using VMware?

Do I just boot from the ISO (I haven't downloaded it yet) (CD/DVD settings inside R1 VM) and then it will detect and upgrade R1 or I have no choice but to create another VM and then manually replicate my files and settings from R1 VM? I really don't want to do the latter since it's very time consuming. I hope someone has thoughts on how to do this.

A:Windows Server 2012 R2 upgrade over R1?

Wow, I just redirected VMware to the R2 iso and just followed the simple steps and I'm now currently upgrading on VMware. I didn't know it was possible to do that. I'll mark this thread as solved if there are no issues with the in place upgrade. Hopefully, everything works fine.

Update: everything went smoothly and now enjoying Server 2012 R2. Sadly, no colorful backgrounds in R2 unlike 8.1. All of my "3D" Metro App games like Pinball FX2, Jetpack Joyride, etc. work perfectly after the in place upgrade .

My Windows 8 Desktop and Tablet are always getting optional updates for errors regarding Windows Server 2012 R2. I have no idea what that is, and if I should install them. I'm not running a server, so I'm guessing that I can just hide them. Am I right?

My office computer runs Windows XP Professional SP3 (see below), and I'm connected to our new server running Server 2012 Essentials. For the last month or so, at 4:00 every afternoon my computer loses its connection to the server. I have two programs that access the server, and both give me error messages and freeze, and I need to restart to get back to normal. I don't pay much attention to my clock, so I'm typically on the phone with a customer trying to accomplish something when my system has a meltdown.

The same error messages come up each time:

The Security System detected an attempted downgrade attack for server cifs/DELLSERVER. The failure code from authentication protocol Kerberos was "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
(0xc000005e)".

The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server cifs/DELLSERVER. No authentication protocol was available.
According to the error logs, this happens in the evenings and early mornings too, although not every day. When it does happen during non-work hours, it looks like it's consistently an hour apart (1:10AM, 2:10AM; 4:10AM, etc. or 5:35PM, 6:35PM, 7:35PM). The error will show up 3 or 4 times in a row, then everything will work fine for several hours.

I do not have any idea where to start to fix this. To my knowledge, I'm the only one with this issue, so I'm pretty sure it's a problem specific to my machine

Hi there
Will the W2012 Server get the 8.1 type of update --anybody know. There seems to be a deafening silence on W2012 server which IMO is strange as it is STREETS ahead of the really horrible W2008 server.

W2012 server has options though already to avoid the whole metro stuff but it would be nice to add some of the proposed customisation features to it.

I'm also not hearing anything about whether W8 ENTERPRISE will also be upgraded -- IMO this is MORE important even than the HOME versions if Ms wants businesses to adopt W8. Boot to the standard desktop is really a MUST for businesses - by also pinning standard programs to the quick launch task bar and / or the desktop a lot of problems of User training can be avoided.

Cheers
jimbo

A:Windows 2012 server to get update or not - anybody

I am wondering this myself. Also, how will future support work for users who do not upgrade to 8.1? Nothing in 8.1 looks to have much of an effect on someone who uses a SMR and the desktop exclusively. Should I bother upgrading and risk having some type of issue with my work PC?
I recently rolled out a 6 PC trial with Windows 8 and Start8 (Start8 with GPO), and am really concerned 8.1 could break something with GPO or Start 8. Ugg, MS.

I can guess the answer, no, but you never know. Is it possible to upgrade Windows 10 Pro 64-bit to Windows Server 2012 R2? What happens if you run the setup from Windows 10 Pro? You will be given the choice to upgrade, or be prompted to restart and do a clean installation? As far as I know, Windows Server 2012 R2 is the server counterpart of Windows 10. They even share most of the drivers. Assuming you have a computer running Windows 10 Pro and want to convert that to a small server, running say Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation Edition. Is that possible, or you have to format and clean install? Hopefully the drivers will be the same as in Windows 10.

Alternatively, is there any upgrade/addon to add server aspects in Windows 10 Pro (eg mail server, file server or HTTP server)? Is there an equivalent of Windows Home Server for Windows 10?

Thank you for your time.

A:Is it possible to upgrade Windows 10 to Server 2012 R2?

No. Windows Server 2012 R2 is the server version of Windows 8.1

The server version of Windows 10 has not yet been released, but it will be called Windows Server 2016.

And no, you cannot upgrade a desktop OS to a Server OS.

Good day

I recently started at a company where i assist in small IT related tasks.

Recently we have started to experience some trouble with our server, we will all still be working perfectly fine (via Remote Desktop) then all of a sudden we lose our connection to the server and when i go to see what the problem is, I see the blue screen
of death on the screen with the following message:
"Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you.
If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (TSFairShare.sys)"
If anyone can please assist me in what this means and how to resolve it i would appreciate it seeing as i don't have
a clue in connection to servers.

Hi I downloaded the .iso of windows server standard 2012. I was told to use the windows 7 usb dvd download tool but when I browse to the .iso of windows server standard 2012 and try to load it. It says that "the selected file is not a valid ISO file. Please select a valid ISO file and try again." I cant figure out why it is doing this but is this a common problem? are there alternatives tools that can put windows server 2012 standard onto a bootable USB drive because my server has no dvd drive, just a cd and USBs. Please HHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP!!!

Poweriso free ( unregistered ) version seems to work very well.

PowerISO - Create, Burn, Mount, Edit, Compress, Encrypt, Split, Extract ISO file, ISO/BIN converter, Virtual Drive

If you d/l from there , it just runs as the free version.
