Burn Audio CD Wrong and Having Probs. What am I doing wrong? "What is the right Way?"

Q: Burn Audio CD Wrong and Having Probs. What am I doing wrong? "What is the right Way?"

Situation 1
-------------
Hello. I had “music store card” [gift card] that I received as a birthday gift lying around so I figured let me it out. Anyway, I purchased 3 songs from iTunes.com. Attempted to burn them. It didn’t work I got some sort of write error on the CD.

While in main screen I clicked Edit > Preferences > Advance > Burning: Discovered that the settings were set to burn an Audio CD. However, I was using a Data CD. Is this why it didn’t work? Last I read up it should have worked. The disk was a CD-R Memorex Cool Color CD-R. This shouldn’t have proven to be a problem right?

This disk can’t be played in Xbox (original not Xbox 360).

Situation 2
-------------
In another situation I tried burning a copy of and an mp3-to-Audio-CD.

When copying the Audio-CD I was using Nero Burn Ultra Edition 6.6.1.4. Got the error message saying along the lines of “write fail, unable to finish end session.” Same thing happened when I was trying to make an mp3-to-Audio-CD, except I was using Microsoft Windows Media Player Version 10.0.

This disk can’t be played in Xbox (original not Xbox 360).

So what am I doing wrong? Here are my objectives:

1) Want to burn audio CDs that will play in cars, stereo systems, DVD players, Xbox, and Xbox360 – when I get it . If I keep purchasing music from iTunes.com, this may prove difficult?

2) What media should I use for what type of burns? Brand recommendations are appreciated, but type of disk would be to the point.

3) How to best configured each application for the aforementioned: iTunes.com, Windows Media Player 10, Nero Burn 6 Ultra Edition 6.6.1.4 (subject to future download updates).

4) Are there music download sites that will allow me to download music and convert it to MP3? ITunes.com copyright protects its songs. What about Microsoft or Napster?

4) "Anything else that may come up along the thread."

Here is a link I've found on itunes. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61102

I posted this in the Multimedia folder, but I don't know if it really belongs there or not, so please delete the other one for me. I don't seem to be able to myself.

Here is the full error when I try to record:

"Another application is recording audio. Stop recording with this other application and then try to record with Sound Recorder again." I have turned off all of the start up programs, restarted my computer, and even uninstalled TotalRecorder, which I thought was causing the problem.

I have tried to use Audio Audicity to record as well, but I get an error message there also, so something is really screwing everything up for me.

I've been trying all night to figure this out on my own, but I just cant solve the problem. Please help me figure this one out, thanks!

Hi All,

I'm having some issues with WinDBG and a crash dump analysis for a Windows Phone 10, so I hope someone could answer this question here.

Background information:
Recently I bought a brand new Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM phone which keeps restarting over and over on a very random basis. After reading several threads it turns out that many people are suffering from the same issue and generic remediation steps are not working
at all. This includes using Windows Device Recovery Tool, turning off certain features such as WiFi & Bluetooth, SD card usage, etc.
After troubleshooting this issue for a while I decided to get on with Field Medic application which clearly indicated a 000000F9 crash. Unfortunately this didn't tell anything too specific so I captured a minidump from the phone and went straight to WinDBG
for further analysis.

Now my issue is that although I can load the crashdump into WinDBG, I'm unable to get the appropriate symbol files as WinDBG is constantly complaining about not finding the required files. I've changed the required sympaths as necessary so I've been trying
to use the official MS online repositories but WinDBG just doesn't want to cooperate and get the files. Unfortunately I couldn't find an offline symbols repository for Windows Phone 10 and therefore I'm stuck with the analysis. The symbols would be required
in order to nail down the root cause making the 0000009F crashes. So far I can only see that this is possibly a driver re... Read more

I'm using Outlook 2003 and have multiple email accounts. I just switched the default email account. However, when I send someone an email it says it is from the old default email address. I've looked at the properties of my new default account and no where in there does it mention this older email account. Outlook clearly is showing that the email is going out on my new default email account but the reply to email or the from portion is from another email account. Any suggestions?

I got a new 2 TB drive for my PC. I never had any trouble installing Windows before. I wanted to make the drive the primary drive.

I keep on getting an error message that Windows's can't be installed on this drive because it is the wrong "NFTS" format? I had never heard of that before. I tried to format it via the installation and it wouldn't let me do that either.

The drive is properly connected. I reinstalled the old hard drive, and kept the new one in there as well. It is recognized and works fine as a "slave" or secondary drive. It is formatted as an NFTS.

Any idea what could be going wrong?

This has happened several times over the past 3-4 months:

Surfing away on Firefox. Go to take a break and set computer on Sleep (Sleep is default when idle). When I get back, FF is not responding and clicking the taskbar icons brings on a whole array of responses such as:
1. Thumbnail of icon will flash above the icon, but won't open
2. Selecting an icon may open the intended program, but it is usually unresponsive.
3. The only way to get out of this mess is to manually shut down (on re-boot, all is functioning well)

A:Taskbar icons "flash," but don't open, among other things going wrong

I used to use Firefox several versions back. But the same issues you've described affected my computer. My "fix" was to uninstall Firefox and reinstall a fresh copy. The problems would disappear for a few weeks and then come back for no apparent reason that I could find. I got tired of dealing with the hassle and just stopped using Firefox.

The "United States-International" keyboard layout option is supposed to let you type accents by pressing the right-alt key at the same time as ' " ~ ` or ^ followed by the letter you want to accent. For some reason on my computer the right-alt key does not work for this purpose, but left-alt and left-shift do. Unfortunately this is conflicting with all sorts of things so I really need to figure out how to get it to work with the right-alt key as it is supposed to. Hi I use Vista64 SP1 on my HP HDX Dragon laptop

Recently I had a problem with Nvidia drivers and I used CCleaner to remove some leftovers from the registry - Maybe that is that is cause of the following problem:

In "Programs and Features" several programs in the list report a wrong size (for example 63GB instead than 1GB) and a wrong installatio date (one is supposed to have been installed in 2042) -

I also have some icon problem, some icons are mismatched in that list (but that may not be related because it happened in the past and I fixed it by using a small program called rebuildIcons.exe.

What can Ii do to fix all that?

Windows 7 auto update in the middle of the night messed everything up. My desktop is empty, my documents and other folders are also empty.

However, if I navigate through MyComputer, I can still see the files where they should be. Windows is presenting me with a new and empty directory instead.

EXAMPLE:

REAL DIRECTORY (where my files exist): Computer/C:/Users/PC/Downloads

START MENU DIRECTORY (empty when you click downloads): Computer/C:/Windows/System32/config/systemprofile/Downloads.
So, the start menu navigation used to take me to the correct folder and is now taking me to some Sys32/config nonsense folder.

How do I get the desktop and start menu to access the correct folders like it used to before the update. My data and files are not deleted...it just seems that way because they aren't showing the right folders.

Thanks.

A:Windows 7 using "wrong" desktop and folder paths after update.

Sounds like your user profile has lost it's connection with where it's data is stored.

Enable the hidden Administrator account from WinRE/Win 7 install DVD/flash drive.

User Account Password - Change from WinRE

Follow through part of Step 9. Logon on to the "Administrator" account

The key is a registry hack that redirects Windows back to the ProfileImagePath of the original profile.

Quote:
Click on Start then Run. type regedit and press Enter or click OK.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Once there, you will see the SID's listed for all of the profiles on the machine. Within the Key for each SID there is an entry called "ProfileImagePath" that will look like
%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\UserName...
Scroll through the SID's until you find the one with the screwy name, like
%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\youruserid.2
This is just an example, could be something else weird.
Just edit the Key to remove the ".2", and it will point the user back to their old profile...
Got this from TechRepublic.com but it's no longer there.

Undo the magnify.exe change made earlier and disable the hidden Administrator account if you want. I leave mine available in case I ever need it.

Hello all, I was opening an attachment with a .tif file and it asked me what program I wanted to open it with and a box was checked to "always use this program by default". Now everything is opening in Kodak's software but I want to open.tifs in something else. How can I "Un-default" Kodak Easy Share and choose a different program? Thanks in advance.

A:How do you "Un-default" if you accidentally chose to defaut to the wrong program?

There is a couple of ways you can do this.

You can right click on the file and then choose Open With and Choose Program. Now you should be in the Open With window. Select what program you want .tif files to open up with and then place a check mark by Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

The second way is similar but is for when you want to associate a certain file type with a program, and you don't have any actual files to right click on.
Start > My Documents > Tools > Folder Options > Files types tab. Pic a file type under Registered file types and then click the Change... button.

Hi,
I am a professional photographer & am trying to optimize Adobe Lightroom for processing RAW files as fast as possible. Presently, I am trying to decrease the pause I have each time a new photo loads into the develop module (this is my biggest editing bottleneck).

Here's my system specs:
OS Win-7 64-bit
RAM 32G
CPU i7-3930K
Windows is installed on C:\ (SSD)
Windows paging is managed by the system, and usually appears on C:\ (SSD)
the Lightroom catalogue is on D:\ (SSD RAID-0)
the Lightroom Cache is also on D:\ (SSD RAID-0)
the RAW files that Lightroom accesses are on E:\ (SSD RAID-0)

My confusion is over the way Resource Monitor displays the "disk activity" at the crucial points (when Lightroom loads a new RAW photo). The "storage" window lists drives C, D, & E as as most active during this time (according to the Active Time(%)), which seems right...

However, "disk activity" lists the system and lightroom as reading files from "H:5\file_path_etc" at the highest rate. I am concerned that this means Lightroom and system are using cached files on the H:\ drive, and my H:\ drive is a slow 7200rpm HDD... Or maybe I'm not reading the "H:5\file_path_etc" tag right. (drive H:\ doesn't have these files on it anyway, unless they are there in a cached form (?)).

I also see a similar thing for "disk activity" on "H:0\file_path_etc" for the following files:
1) the Lightroom catalogue, which should be on D... Read more

A:Lightroom "disk activity" on the wrong drive - can someone explain?

UPDATE:

OK, so I think I've solved this one. H:0\ is simply Windows 7's way of referring to the D:\ drive in a RAID-0 array on my computer, and H:5\ is Windows 7's way of referring to the E:\ drive in a RAID-0 array on my computer.

Bummer. I was hoping for a speed increase in the way Lightroom behaves. I'll need to look elsewhere, it seems :-(

Hey everyone.

So you all know the fishy download sites that do their best to make you click the wrong "Download" icon, and instead download something else. It usually comes with the same file name of the thing you originally wanted, but with an .exe format.
If this happens, I usually stop the download before it even finishes, but a few minutes the .exe was so small it finished before I had the chance - and even though I didn't click it, suddenly I get a Windows 7 "ESET GUI has stopped working" message.

I restarted the GUI and everything seemed back to normal, but the anomaly is obviously connected to the file. I'm worried it had done some damage within that window of opportunity.

How do I make sure?

Windows 7 64
Core i7 860 @ 2.8GHz
16GB RAM
Gigabyte P55M-UD2
NOD32 5.2.9.1, up to date.
Thanks.

[Note: I apologize in advance for the second-hand information... I will be seeing this in person in the morning, but thought I might go armed with some insight from you all. TIA!]

A daughter of a friend just bought Win7 Pro x64 from her university bookstore, and when she put the DVD into her laptop drive, she is greeted with a "wrong version" or "incorrect version" error message. She tells me she is running Vista (I am assuming x86) and that she has ~4GB of memory. Has anybody ever heard of something similar happening?

She told me that she has almost all of her info on an EHD, so I told her to backup whatever else she wanted to keep off of the HDD and when I visit tomorrow we will attempt to do the install, most likely a custom install for a fresh start (laptop ~2 years old).

Since I have read in several places here on the forums that the key included with the disc is good for both x64 and x86 versions of Win7, if it turns out that she has <4GB of RAM, is it possible to install the x86 from the disc? If so, is it easy to locate? If not, is there someplace we can dl it from? She tells me that she uses it mostly for Office (reports, presentations, etc) and used to run games on it (not sure what type), so I don't know if she would "need" x64 unless she has 4GB+ of RAM, right?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. If there are any specific questions I should be asking of her or things to look for when I am in front of the lapt... Read more

A:Win7 x64 install error: stating "wrong version" on Vista laptop... ?

as far as i understood you entered the Key that came with Windows 7 DVD, if so then she should go back to the store, cuz the key is wrong and ask for at least trying to install it infront of her. and for running windows 7 smoothly you need at least 2GB ram, Core 2 Duo processor with 2GH frequency and 3 MB L2 Cach, in this case it will run smoothly.
Now a starting fix will be: Check if the processor is compatible with x64, also when is the message appearing after doing what?
cuz i don't know what to say until i know where the message starts appearing

I've been doing a lot of tidying up of my file types and associations, and one of the things that I have done is to ensure that all my most used file types have meaningful and accurate "friendly names". So, instead Explorer referring to .wv files as "WV File" it now says "WavPack Audio File". I've done this for numerous file types and it has all worked well and is correctly displayed in Explorer.

However, I also use Windows Libraries, and for some reason it is still using generic file descriptions, or older ones that I chose myself and subsequently updated.

I have done the usual things of clearing the icon cache and all other cache and temp storage. I've also completely rebuilt the index of the Library in question. I have even removed all folders from that library and deleted the top level library itself (then, after a reboot, recreated it by selecting 'Restore Default Libraries'), but as soon as I add my folder to the Library, the same old file names show up again.

I have done a thorough search of my Registry and some of the terms being displayed by the Library are nowhere to be found in the Registry (because I have updated every possible instance of the file type name) so it must be cached somewhere, unless its buried in some indecipherable format in the Registry that doesn't show up in search results.

If I click an incorrectly named 'file types' group in the Library, and then choose 'Open Folder Location' to look at the same files direct... Read more

A:Windows Explorer "Libraries" displaying wrong File Type names

This could have something to do with your user files. Are you the Administrator of this computer & do you only have one user account?.

Click on Computer & then click on your main OS drive which is normally C:\, then click Users, which should show your user name as one of the folders. Click on that & select your Documents files & see if the new names are listed there, if so you can create a New Library by clicking on Include in Library, from the menu at the top, & selecting Create New Library.

If all the Documents are correct as mentioned above you could copy all the Documents into the New library & then after checking everything is correct you can delete the old library.

If you have more that one user account, it's possible that all the changes are being made on one account & you are then trying to access them on another account, so you keep getting the old arrangement.

Hi,

Here's a strange one, but lots of strange things happen with Vista. I'm running Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP2.

I clicked on the My Computer icon. I should get a list of drives (and Users and Marlene) down the left pane that I can expand to list folders and subfolders in the left pane. When I select the subfolder I want, its files and folders are shown in the right pane. I can do things like display files from one drive in the right pane, and drag/copy things from it to a different drive in the left pane. This is how it always works -- all the way back to XP (and 98?) op sys days.

Instead of that normal display, the left pane showed "Preferred Links" with a list of things like Documents, Pictures, etc. No drives were listed. Clicking on one of these "links" listed its folders in the right pane. I messed around with "Views" and "Organize" and now I have the left pane listing my drives, but no folders or subfolders. When I click on a drive, it's folders are shown in the right pane.

How do I get my normal view back?

Somehow the file holding my documents was moved. I know where it is, but it doesn't show up in the proper place under Libraries when I look at it with Windows Explorer.

Problem: My backup program looks in C:\users\Mark S. Bacon to find files to back up. My photos and music are there and current, but the "my documents" file was missing. I copied it from the library, but now I have a duplication in the library and in C:\users and the C;|users version does not change when I modify a file in the "my documents" in the library. (What I copied was not just a link, but the entire set of documents. I had hoped I was just copying a link to the files.)

Is the solution just to make my Cobian back up look in Libraries, not C:\users? Or is there a way to put things back they way they were? Would a system restore fix the jumbled folders in C:\users and the library? That would not be my first choice of solution as I would have to reinstall some software that I've loaded since the restore point. Or would I?

I know this sounds like a mess. It doesn't hinder my computer use, but it screws up backing up.

Thanks very much.

A:Yet another "Wrong version of dll file" on start up of Computer.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

For some time now my graphics card has been a bit dodgy. 1 out of 10 times it refused to start, and the monitor remained black. I point out the graphics card as the scape goat because the fan on the card was totally silent and not still - the card didn't seem to start.

This went on for some time. About one week ago (christmas eve) the pc just wouldn't boot, all fans would start (including the one on the graphics card) but the monitor remained black, like it didn't get a signal. Because of my earlier experience with my graphics card I once again blamed it for being the source of error. I let the PC be, and didn't start to fiddle with it (being crhistmas and all). I tried to start my computer the day after and as a gift from santa himself it worked and started on first try!

To avoid having further "bad surprises" I soon after decided to return the card to the shop where I bought it, not for being broken, but for fearing it would be sooner or later.

The support team at the shop were a bit sceptic as I explained my worries to them. They gave me a hint though that i maybe had a bit too low power in my sýstem (350W), and that this might be the reason why my pc acted the way it did, and that it maybe only made it look like it was the graphics card. But they agreed on taking it in on a test anyway.

Nothing wrong was found with the card according to them and I got it back yesterday and put it in again.
It didn't work.

Have you tried resetting your CMOS?

I'd say if you have a new power supply, and if you strip down to just the mobo and CPU/heatsink as you outline above you can rule just about everything out.

I'd recommend taking the motherboard out of the case actually, and then wiring the PSU to the motherboard (put it on a box beside the case or something), connect case's audio jacks so you can hear the error messages. It is possible that your motherboard is shorting on the case somewhere (and might cause the CPU test to fail).

If you still get the same message, my guess is your motherboard (not your CPU) will need replacing.

My PC left unused for over a month, when I turned it on today, the screen read after three short beep sounds:

CMOS Battery Low
CMOS Memory Size Wrong

While I shut it down and restarted again, it said:

CMOS Settings Wrong
CMOS Memory Size Wrong

The system restore could be set back to an earlier date, while safe mode was O.K. But I just wasn't able to go into the Windows welcome page. The last time I used my PC was perfect, and it didn't have any problem for several years.

I'd appreciate very much if anyone who can tell me what happened?

A:Why "CMOS Memory Size, Settings Wrong?"

My first guess is that your CMOS battery on your motherboard is dead and just needs replaced. Open up your computer case and locate the CMOS battery. It's a large watch battery, usually about the size of a quarter, and is silver. Once you find it, pry it out and take it to Radio Shack or somewhere similar to get the same battery. Pop the new one in and see if that fixes it.

Here's an example, the silver disk towards the top is what you're looking for.

Hello,

Currently I can log on to the PC and view libraries and move files in the PC named directory tree. There is only one user account, Admin with password.

Cannot do the following:

change the admin account via PC setting> Sign-in options. When I click, the "cursor" goes back to the "your account" line.
View C drive - Access denied
Restore to facotry setting - tried via PC setting and safe mode
launch MS office apps - Office popup - "something went wrong" Tried to repair in programs and feathures - msg: not enough disk space and there is plenty.
launch recovery setup from CD drive - msg: "You may not have the appropriate permissions", just spinning "hourglass" thing and it is a Dell system disc.

Any suggestions?

I have a client who has a Toshiba tablet PC (not sure of the model number) who wants to upgrade their hard drive to a larger hard drive.

When I upgraded my hard drive on my Toshiba, it gave me the Wrong Machine error message. I tried using the DMI update tool, but it gave me a choice between 2 model number series, both of which were not the series of my laptop. I tried updating each one, but neither update worked. So eventually I had to use a retail XP CD to install the OS.

So, the first question is do Toshiba laptops always give the "Wrong Machine" error message when you replace the hard drive with a larger one?

And the second question is, if so, how do you get around that if the DMI update does not work and you do not want to go out and spend money on a new OS CD?

A:What are some ways around Toshiba's "Wrong Machine" error?

It's looking for the original HD, Since you replaced it the Install CD is thinking your trying to reinstall the OS on a non-Toshiba unit.

Not sure of a work around...

Hey there! So I've seen many posts on this kind of topic but none that have had the exact same issue that I'm having or none with solutions that seem to work for me so I'm deciding to post it here.

I recently was forced to create a new user account on my Windows 10 PC since old one got corrupted. This new one is a local account/administrator. When going to the account settings I then go to the "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead" option which works totally fine. I am asked to input the email of my Microsoft account and password. So far so good. After I do that I then encounter a screen that says "Sign in to this device using your Microsoft account". It asks me for my current Windows password one more time and says the next time I sign into windows I'll be using my Microsoft account password.
So I then enter my windows password and here is where the lovely screw up happens that says "Oops, something went wrong. Whatever happened, it was probably our fault. Please try again."

I've tried countless times and attempted to skip this page by clicking next and nothing. I can't use my Microsoft account at all on this computer it seems anymore. Anyone have some useful tips? I can post images of the entire process if needed in case something wasn't clear.

A:Cannot Sign in with Microsoft Account - "Oops Something went wrong"

I'm having the same problem exactly! Any ideas anyone?

Hello,

I've been playing around with 3rd party themes and taskbar customizations, and after setting everything back to default (Normal Window Aero themes, taskbar etc) I'm experiencing slowness/lag in taskbar performance.

This is hard to explain but I'll try to clarify as much as I can:
When I click one application to another from taskbar, there is a 1 second delay for it to switch (Note that all of these applications are opened already). For example, while I'm on Windows explorer (i.e opened folder) when I click firefox, it doesn't switch immediately instead there is a 1 second delay for it to switch. Or when I'm on the desktop and click firefox, it doesn't show firefox immediately instead there is a delay of 1 second before the firefox shows
When I ALT-TAB, although it switches immediately, the highlight of the tab/icon on taskbar is experiencing delay. For example, while I'm on firefox (the firefox tab is highlighted on taskbar) when I ALT-TAB to a random folder/applications it switches immediately however, the highlight doesn't switch immediately instead there is a 1 second delay
When I hover my mouse to any applications on taskbar, it takes around 1 second of delay to show the small preview
Sometimes, clicking any applications on taskbar is not responsive. For example, if I repeatedly click "show desktop" really fast, it doesn't switch for every click instead, I need to click twice to switch it back and foruth

As a result, this happens to ANY applications,... Read more

I have on old slow CD-burner, it still works, but I wanted a faster one. So I got a new womper stomper fast one, I have both in the machine, intending to use the old burner more for a ROM now.

When I try burning an audio CD with the new burner, it burns successfully with no errors. But when you listen to the CD, the first 2 minutes of the first song are missing. The first track just starts playing in the middle of the first song. The tracks are still the same length, so then the second song starts halfway through the first track, etc. etc. Everything on the CD is shifted about 2 minutes, with 2 minutes of silence at the end of the CD.

I burned the playlist on my old slow burner, using the same software, and the CD works perfectly.

I am using Windows XP-Pro
Nero 5.5 (latest update)

Thinking perhaps it was something with that playlist, I tried a different playlist, and burned another coaster.

I tried burning at different speeds, burned more coasters.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the drive, burned another coaster.

I disabled Windows default burn settings, burned another coaster.

So I finally called Samsung (makers of the new drive) went through their tech support, and they decided it was a bad drive. So I sent that one back and they sent me a new one. The new one does the exact same thing.

So either they sent me another bad drive, or it's a software issue. I've already burned about 15 coasters trying different things, with no success. Any suggestions?

I bought Office 365 when I bought an HP All-In-One with Windows 8.1 last December. It worked fine until this week when I find if I try to open Excel or Word I get a message...

First I tried to repair via "Programs and Features" Both the "Quick" and "Online" options took me back to the above message.

Next I clicked the link in the "Something went wrong" message.I followed the prompts, "Go to your account page" (a link), then "Install", then "Save file" This sent a file to my Downloads, Clicked the download and after a while I got a new message...

<Couldn't start Office installation. Go online for additional help>

This puts me back into the loop described above.

Any suggestions please? After the above I decided to restore to an earlier date to see if that would do it. Can't Win 8 do a traditional install? I could only find how to "Refresh" the computer and this involved completely reinstalling Windows and says I'd need the disk or memory stick. As I bought it from a store with Win 8 already installed I wasn't given a disk or memory stick, so that's out. People!

I've been directed here for help - I wonder if somebody would be so kind as to help me fix this a problem very frustrating problem....

2 months ago :

My laptop......
Following a MS Windows update, an uninstall of Norton anti-virus (subscription ran out), and subsequent install of AVG free, my IE explorer suddenly stopped working altogether displaying the above error without fail. ...

So I installed Firefox 2 which worked fine until a recent update to Firefox 3 (system instigated) resulted in a complete lack of web access via any broswer.

I am online as i can check email on Outlook and can receive software updates (but for some apps, not all), the weather report, Realmedia news etc.....it's just webpages i cannot access and some software updates like AVG.

I thought it was a firewall issue, so i disabled the firewall and that was not the problem.

I followed all instructions from MS including checking conflicts, both service and software, and i have upgraded to IE8 from IE7. I have re-installed firefox. I have run AVG scan, Super anti spyware scan, Malwarebytes, ccleaner, cwshredder, winsockfix, lspfix......the list goes on. I have uninstalled all anti-virus and disabled firewall and still doesn't work.

Unless i can work out the problem i will need to do a full system restore and that is not an option. It is very frustrating because I have always been able to solve problems like this, but with my reasonable knowledge and IT literacy I cannot fix... Read more

I have Windows XP SP2.
A couple of days ago I was changing the folder types (from Documents to Pictures) for numerous subfolders in the "My Pictures" folder.
Somehow this caused many of the other directories/folders (C:, Program Files, Windows, etc.) to start using the "Picture Tasks" panel ("View as a slide show", "Order prints online", "Print pictures") on the left side of the screen, instead of the default panel for that directory/folder.
Does someone know how to recover the default panels by a registry change? (I don't use System Restore)

I recently installed Windows 7. I have four partitions . Windows is installed on C:, and I also have D: , E: and G: as storage partitions . However, although C: is the boot partition it managed to mark G: as the system partition. This is causing a few problems with the Windows 7 backup feature as it automatically makes a backup of both C: and G: as System partition, and it's using up a lot of space on the backup partition.

C: Healthy (Boot, Page file, logical Drive)
D: Healthy (logical Drive)
E: Healthy (Primary Partition)
G: Healthy (system, Active, Primary Partition)

Help me

A:The wrong drive is marked as "system"

Unplug all the hard drives except the one you want windows on, re install windows.

or

Mark G inactive, mark C active, unplug all the drives except C, run startup repair until windows boots again. ( This still may not work )

I wouldn`t rely on windows backup, better to backup your files yourself, I would also create a disk image when you have windows fully updated and all your programs installed.

Folks,

I'm using a PIN number for logging in to my Win 10 system. All is well for the first few (typically, 5 or 6) logins, but then I get a message that "Something went wrong..." and thereafter I have to use my Microsoft account password to login. If I reboot my system, the PIN number works again FOR AWHILE. I've tried changing my PIN number, but that made no difference - after a few uses I get the above error message and have to use my Microsoft password again.

I've seen lots of folks having problems with using a PIN, but I have not seen any mention of an intermittent problem such as I'm seeing. My system is a "clean" build of Windows 10 Pro starting with an Acer Aspire ATC-710-UR51. The only other problem I've seen is that the Task Scheduler frequently (but not always!) seems to miss running a nightly backup program, not executing that procedure until I login in to the system in the morning. I don't know if these two problems are related or not...

Any comments/suggestions would be most welcome!

Wayne
