I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Windows retrieved an update recently to update the firmware on the edge 2 laptops. Mine has been doing this same exact thing, however, each time at restart my battery has been below "the threshold" of 25 or 30% battery, I forget which. Next time you get a full charge, restart the computer instead of shutting it down, and hopefully should do the trick.

Used an older version of spotmau and it changed the following files NTOskrnl.exe, Hal.dll, ntfs.dll, mtdr.dll, ntdetect. Now I cannot boot into windows to use my restore settings. I would like to restore my windows xp back to an earlier state to correct this but I cannot boot into comand prompt. F8. It doesn't work. I have the Toshiba Recovery and Applications/Drivers, Satellite A100/A105 Series disks but this will wipe my hard drive clean. Is there a boot disk I can use to fix this problem? I no longer have the disks to Windows XP. Can I use another Windows xp that is on another computer, will that work to get it to boot.
Can I install a different version of Windows and will the problem still exist??

You can use an XP install disk to recover a previous restore point. You may have to borrow one.

I do OS image deployments for customers on multiple platforms and multiple languages on multiple OS's. I'm now begining my deployment for Windows 7 and have hit a major stumbling block. The above error happens at the end of my installation when running 'bcdboot.exe d:\windows'As far as the install goes it is a self generating HDD install system. 1. Four partitions are created #1 is the 200mb System, #2 is the OS partition, #3 is the WinPE boot partition for the image build set as active, #4 is the imaging files location.2. Upon boot of the image install the system sets partition letters for installing using diskpart.exe.3. An interview using an HTA file starts up asking Name, Language, Timezone, and location.4. Using an WMI call to the baseboard I get the SYSID so that the right driver set can be applied.5. Once the user selects Ok in the HTA interview screen the imaging is all automated. 6. The very last thing that I do before rebooting is call bcdboot s:\Windows (because is the actual driver letter at the time of the windows install, I've also tired using 'D' but it doesn't work either) then I remove the extra partitions and set the #1 partition as active then reboot. This system works fine under my windows XP install and the only real difference is the 200MB system partition. I've tried varying the sequence but it doesn't seem to matter. Any ideas? Thanks for the help,Randall Dale

A:BFSVC:BcdOpenSystemStore failed with unexpected error code, Status = [c0000098]

I do bcdboot after the image is applied. Me thinks your bcdboot is failing because wrong partition is active at the time of bcdboot. My workflow is:1. Wipe the disk2. Create 200 MB partition. Assign letter. Active. Format3. Create partition ocupying the rest of the disk (or smaller). Assign letter. Format4. ImageX. Source is network share. Destination is partition 2 (D:)5. bcdboot d:\windows6. Reboot. It works for me.

Hi there, for a few days now I've had the Windows 7 Update shield next to my Shut Down button no matter how many times it is "installed". Looking in the Update History, I found the title of this post and pasted it. It has failed multiple attempts
to install. I  have tried the Windows update troubleshooter and that didn't work so I then tried to open CMD and type the command Ren
%systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak (as instructed by https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10164/fix-windows-update-errors) but then was  hit with "Access Denied" in the CMD.

I think it is also having an effect on my internet as it has been terribly slow when trying to use my PC for online gaming.

My specs:

Nvidia Asus Geforce 970 OC
Intel i7 860 2.8 ghz

I would be grateful for any help. Thank you.

Hello, I purchased a Lenovo Yoga towards the end of 2014. It?s traveled a lot with me and I love it. Currently I?ve run in to some issues which occurred earlier in its life where the hard drive had come loose not allowing it to boot up. I could probably fix it but my daughter also broke the screen. Due to this I wanted to see if I could do a warranty repair. I know I purchased an extended warranty but I can?t find the serial number on my laptop (I believe it started to come off and my daughter just ripped the rest of it off). I have a reference number for the initial repair in 2015. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Reference Number 8004430641. Thank You,Daniel J. McDwyer

I'm not trying to be a pest but I'm not sure how else to check on the status of a request that I have logged. I submitted a request about a week ago (7 days tomorrow morning) under the title "Google Search Result Redirects". As suggested, I bumped the thread after 72 hours.

After that, they tell you not to bump the thread again because they only look at threads with 0 or 1 reply. I'm guessing that many of the volunteers are on vacation and it also seems to be very busy right now. I'm not trying to jump in front of others who are also waiting for help. I just don't know how to find out if my thread has been "lost" or if it is just taking this long to deal with all of the requests. This waiting period seems to be longer than what they normally experience.

Any suggestions?

I truly appreciate any help you can provide. I have not submitted this problem to any other sites and will continue to wait patiently as needed.

I do have Geek Squad and have the sinking feeling this machine will be sent to ASUS for a disk swap, wish they could just extract and replace at Best Buy, should I even bother with Geek Squad....money well spent right?

Or - should I get a purportedly better manufacturer's HD, maybe even SSD (found a IDE 32 gb for $100) - that could be used as my my OS drive.

Barely even used this drive/pc - next stop, Home Build!

If you have to pay for new HDD - purchase it and install it yourself, then reinstall OS.

last summer I bought a HP CQ2300GR desktop with windows xp sp3 pre-activated.
My pc shows a biohd-8 hard disk error in its diagnostic tools (f9) since a couple of months now.
I checked in the net and it seems it may be a motherboard/hard disk problem and I am sceptic about having it fixed in HP while still in warranty (some more months remain) and risking to stuck with a broken pc after the warranty's end, if it breaks again. I consider alternatively to simply buy a more reliable pc.
In the mean time I performed some three times system recovery through dvd (I was lucky enough to prepare one immediately after opening my new system). After the third recovery my diagnostic tool stopped working and it leads to the windows screen offering to start with safe mode.
Accidentally I checked my system's info through start>[email protected] and about the Os it says "windows xp home, not activated, end within 30 days".
Microsoft says if one formats the hard disk must reactivate windows xp.
But in HP site in recovery instructions this is not mentioned anywhere, instead it is mentioned about windows 7 that it is not necessary.
I was lucky for a second time as my recoveries occurred in lapses of time smaller than 30 days between them.
I would be grateful if you could advise how to check my windows xp activation status and how to re-activate them if necessary.

Does anyone know how can i have the IE status bar check all the time? Thanks for the help.

A:Solved: Have IE Status bar check all the time

Try This:
To make the View Status bar always show in a new IE browser window,
1. Start Internet Explorer.

2. From the View menu, select Status Bar. A check should now appear next to this option.

3. From the View menu, select Toolbars and then Lock Toolbars. Again, a check mark should now appear next to your selection.

4. Close Internet Explorer by pressing your Ctrl key and clicking the Close box in the top right corner.

5. Right-click your Start button in the lower left of your desktop.

6. Select Explorer. A Start Menu dialog will appear.

7. From the View menu, select Status Bar. The status bar will appear at the bottom and you should see an item count and size for the folder you're viewing.

8. From the Tools menu, select Folder Options A Folder Options dialog will appear.

9. Click the View tab at the top.

10. Click the Apply to All Folders button.

11. Click Yes if prompted to set all the folder options to match the current folder.

12. Click OK and close Windows Explorer.

To verify the fix works, open a web page with many links in Internet Explorer such as Google or Yahoo! Your status bar should show. Next, find an interesting link, right-click, and select Open in New Window. You should also see the status bar in this second window. If not, verify your Status Bar and Lock Toolbar settings are still enabled in Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.

Dear all,

My system will not boot with the above error code displayed.

I need urgent help to recover if anyone can assist and indeed if it can be recovered.

History -

The PC was not shutting down for some time and was hanging on the shutting down screen before losing the output to the monitor but fans and lights still on.

Yesterday I cloned by SSD using Macrium Reflect and the outcome was successful - System booted and all was well. I did have to use diskpart.exe to expand the partition after the clone but it worked flawlessly.

This morning I booted and the error appeared to my shock and surprise.

I have updated the gigabyte BIOS from F4 to F10 - no change.

I have installed my windows disk and tried to boot from it to no avail.

Is there anything I can do to recover the system please ?

Many thanks in advance.

I was trying to uninstall a DVD drive from the Device Manager. When I rebooted I received the error message below.

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "repair your computer."

If you don't have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer
manufacturer for assistance.

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
I followed the repair instructions using the Windows 7 installation disc. In the end it reported that "Startup Repair could not detect a problem" and nothing was repaired.

I have run CHKDSK on all listed drives and no errors were found and it did not solve the problem. I have checked the boot order and it is correct.

I have tried all the Bootrec.exe fixes.

I have been searching for a solution for hours, including on this site, and cannot find how to fix this. Any help would be appreciated.

Today Windows Update unexpectedly downloaded 11 patches, mostly hotfixes. I'm still not sure why this happened as most of these patches were dated 2012/2013.
After installing them the laptop stayed on the "Preparing to configure your system..." screen for so long I thought it had frozen, but after an hour or so it rebooted and things seemed to be working normally.

On checking the Update History, it says "Updates were installed today at 21:11 (Failed), even though all of the patches are listed as "Successful" under Status. After checking again, something called Update for Windows is displaying as Failed, but I don't remember seeing this listed with the other 11 patches earlier.

Before rebooting I noticed the yellow Update icon was next to the Shut Down menu, and was still there after the reboot, but it dissappered a few minutes later while I was checking the Update History. I've run a check for updates and Windows seems to think I'm up to date - am I missing something important here?

A:Confusing Failed/Successful Status After Update

I don't think you are missing anything but I'm not a expert.

All I would do is reboot 3 or 4 times today and check for Windows Updates manually and see if you have any problems.

Your Windows Updates might be trying to work around/with McAfee.
McAfee is normally not friendly with Windows 7.

Hello, this is my second post on this website; and I hope I'm posting in the correct category.

Here's the problem I'm having and I hope someone can help.

I've just repaired Windows XP and its now booting up great!, however, the battery icon (in the bottom left) has a symbol, the icon showing is a "plug" as if my laptop is plugged in and it never shows how much battery life I have, weather my laptop is plugged in or not. I know my battery isn't failing or is damaged because I checked it with another hard drive that has windows XP (and with Dell Diagnostics) and the battery icon shows up normally (i.e. showing me how much battery life I have left).

I'm running Windows 7 RC x 64. Everything about the Epson Photo R1800 seems perfect, except it doesn't show the remaining ink levels when printing or when checking via Status Monitor. (Rather, on the latter, it just sits there saying "searching....") All the other, somewhat complex, features of the R1800 work fine, including selecting paper profiles, etc.

I'm pretty certain that everyting worked with 7 (7000) x64. I've reinstalled the Epson drivers, running it in Vista compatability mode, to no avail.

Since the printer has 8 separate ink cartridges, waiting for the "low ink" light on the printer (which won't tell me which cartridge) isn't a very appealing alternative. Any ideas?

bootrec /RebuildBcd

Exit the command prompt and restart the computer.
At this point, Windows 7 should boot up the same way before trying to install XP.
Continue to step 8 below and run EasyBCD from Windows 7 instead
It still will not boot xp.
Please help

Thank, JIMT

Did you try using EasyBCD to add XP from Win7 to dual boot? If so, on Edit OS menu delete the XP entry, then Add it again on Add OS tab. It may offer boot files, accept to autocomplete, Save, Restart.

If this fails, post back a screenshot of your Win7 full Disk Management drive map and listings, using SNipping Tool in Start Menu.

I have a Windows 7 home professional 64bit. Its a gateway NV55S17U. And when I start the system I get the following message.

Boot Manager:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".
3.Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

The error occurred after using reformatting my computer.] I did not have the recovery disc so I ordered one from Acer for the gateway. I inserted the recovery disc 1 of 3 and booted up my computer again. It did not recognize the disc and the dame boot message above appeared. I tried to change the boot order for the CD/DVD disc drive and make it the first device booted. That did not work either. All help is appreciated.

A:Windows failed to start! After Reformat Status: 0xc000000f

The disks Acer shipped reinstall all of the factory crapware which corrupts and interferes with better versions built into Win7. That's why tech enthusiasts won't run such an install but prefer to do the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything you need is in the blue link to get a perfect install, including the latest official installer with SP1.

To try to repair the existing installation work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start which also provides all the necessary boot disks to disinfect, repair or reinstall.

To try to force the Factory Recovery disks to boot and run you may need to boot the provided Win7 installation DVD or System Repair Disk to wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command first.

Hi guys I got a samsung np355v5c laptop for my son, I've got the same laptop also and was just setting it up for him when it restarted and came up with the following error. It is running windows 8.1 and didn't come with any disk. I was installing samsung recovery tool before it failed, and it came up with a box saying there was no recovery patition on the computer would i like to restart and try again. it was then that it came up with the following.

"The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors"
File: \boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000000f

So as neither laptop came with installation disks I have started to download installation media from
Creating installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help

To be honest Im not sure what my next step will be when it finishes downloading?

So looking for help and here seemed the logical place to start

A:Win 8.1 failed to start, file \boot\bcd, Status 0xc000000f

Open the Command Prompt when the Installation DVD Loads and type the following commands.chkdsk /r c:
chkdsk /r d:
chkdsk /r e:
chkdsk /r f:.etc until you get the message that the volume could not be opened for direct access. For any drives that do not give the message:
"Windows has checked the file system and found no problems"
run chkdsk again as above. In other words, if it says:
"Windows has made corrections to the file system"
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

I realize you may only have one disk show up in Windows explorer, but you may have more than one disk through recovery options. This is because the system creates a hidden boot partition (which will be C: in recovery), you may have a recovery partition for your PC that is hidden (which will be D: in recovery), and you will have your primary Windows partition (which may be E: in recovery). A custom PC will likely have at least C: and D: to scan.

But first try fixing the BCD because it's likely damaged: Repair Windows BCD

The last shutdown's success status was true. The last boot's success status was false.

I have this in event viewer after Automatic Repair in Windows 10 Pro on second boot.

The last boot's success status was false.

The last boot's success status is that boot just before current boot right? Or this is status of current boot?

What does mean ?

A:The last shutdown's success status was true. The last boot's success status was false

Moved to win10 support for further help.

My computer was recently infected with Vundo and Smitfraud. I've used Vundofix, Spybot, Superantispyware, AVG, Pandascan, and two other online virus scans to remove the infections. From reading earlier threads on the same problem, I gather that a HijackThis log will allow an expert eye to check that I've succeeded in fully removing the threats. I'd be very grateful if one of you had a look (I use a Swedish language edition of Windows XP):
