Will I have problems RE-ACTIVATING Windows 7

Q: Will I have problems RE-ACTIVATING Windows 7

I have already installed and activated windows 7.... If I format my hard drive to fix some virus problems I think I may have... am I going to have a problem RE-ACTIVATING windows 7 when I reinstall?

Preferred Solution: Will I have problems RE-ACTIVATING Windows 7

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Will I have problems RE-ACTIVATING Windows 7

No, you shouldnt have any problems as long as it is a straight install... you may want to consider doing a system backup/image to a spare drive in case this happens again though...

Hello! I am so glad that a forum like this exists!
I purchased a gaming computer on Craigslist about 6 years ago. (right at the launch of Starcraft 2 lol). I finally upgraded it this past winter. Pretty much every internal component other than the PSU was replaced. I deactivated my old copy of windows 7 ultimate that was on it, and when I went to reactivate it on the new SSD with the new components it came up as an OEM license. (apparently these cant be reused on a different machine?) Not a problem. So I put of purchasing a copy because Windows 7 Ultimate was crazy expensive, and I didn't want to mess with re installing it.
I recently purchased a copy of Windows 7 ultimate from a reputable online seller, it did however ship from China. Which makes me nervous. I used the code on the screen on my control panel > system and security > system > Windows activation, and it said that this code is not genuine. I want to make sure that I am doing everything that I can on my end, and not missing something before going back on the seller.

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Acer Desktop PC, well recently was in Feb/March of this year.

After experiencing some issues with my browser(s) and other issues I tried to refresh the system. All worked fine until I rebooted the system.
After I input my log on password in it a screen comes on saying that windows cannot be activated at this time. Please try later or input the product key. Also I cannot download any updates, I presume because of the activation.

The Pc was purchased New and had windows 8.1 installed with no installation disks or product keys in sight. After much searching I managed to get the product key, manually input it and Nada, Nothing! It would not accept it.

I have done much searching but nothing seems to help! Any pointers please.

Welcome to EF,

You can try my new script to check licence status. It's gives similar output to the old MGA Diag tool for Win 7.

I currently own a Vista premium 64bit laptop.....I'm trying to install Empire total war, which requires Directx 10. In order to install that I need to activate .Net 3.0. I attempted to do this by going to Control Panel....Turn On/Off Windows Features....checked all of the boxed under .Net 3.0.....then it configues but then displays the message "an error has occurred. not all of the features were successfully changed"

I have no idea what to do....I attempted to see if I could uninstall .Net 3.0 but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Any help would be much appreciated(sorry if this is in the wrong topic area)

Thank you

A:Problems Activating/Changing .Net 3.0

Vista already has the .Net framework built into it, as well as DX10.

What leads you to conclude that you need to somehow "activate .Net 3.0"? What is the actual problem you're encountering and what error messages are you seeing, if any?

I am here to share my horrific experience with you guys regarding this cheat company called Kaspersky.

Earlier, this year, I bought a one year license for KIS 2015 from downloadcrew store. They have a good reputation. I have bought so many software from them in the past without any issues.

The code I bought was for the US/CAN region only. I activated it easily using CyberGhost (USA server). Later, I reactivated it many times through the same procedure, whenever I did a clean install of Windows, without any issues.

After migrating to Windows 10, I waited for a bit installing KIS 2016 because of the ongoing issues it had. Two days ago, I finally decided to give it a go on Windows 10. When I installed it, and tried activating, it gave me the error that "the activation code is not suitable for this application."

I opened a ticket with technical support. I stated my problem and waited for their reply. First, they gave me an irrelevant reply with irrelevant links. Then, when I pressed them, they told me that the activation code was for KIS 2012 and could only be used up to KIS 2015 and nothing beyond that. After that, they took a u-turn and told me that the code was actually for South Africa. That was a huge lie which got me pissed off big time. I argued with them over the issue, but they said that the company downloadcrew was at fault, and they (Kaspersky) could not change the code or help me furthermore with this issue. The only thing I could do was to contact them ... Read more

Hello Everyone,

I have an Acer laptop with Windows 7 installed on it. As it's been 5-6 years since i got the laptop, it has gotten really slow, so i decided to do a mass uninstalling wave and it really got faster! But the isue is I don't know why, after that, my ethernet connection says Active and the cable is plugged in as always but I have no access to Internet, and worse, the Wifi is disactivated, and when I try to activate it the screen turns blue and the laptop restarts.

I prefer a slow laptop to a internetless laptop haha,

Thanks for your help

Hi People

I recently installed a new motherboard and I had to perform a repair install of Windows XP. Now I have to re-activate Windows. I am reminded of this every time I Reboot. However when I click Activate Windows my pc stops at the desktop wallpaper before the icons and taskbar show up. And it stays there and stays there forever until I reboot again.

If I click NO to 'do I want to activate Windows' and click the Windows Star at the bottom right of my taskbar I am directed to a webpage that tells me my copy of windows is not genuine.

I got my copy of Windows directly from Microsoft. I know for a fact it is genuine. So how can I fix this?

When I perform the operation below I don't have an 'activate windows' button on my copy of windows xp. Its not in accessories or anywhere.

Click Start.
Point to All Programs.
Click Activate Windows.

I have a legit copy of windows 7 am I have just attempting to re-install on a computer of mine. I do NOT have it installed anywhere else, I am NOT trying to install the same copy of windows in tandem with another computer. I have also re-installed in the past with zero issues across different hardware setups.

So, I type in my product key and it doesn't appear to work. It never tells me the key is invalid, it just won't accept it current. It prompts me with the typical options to contact MS to buy a new one, etc. I am kind of at a loss now. I have uninstalled from one computer and installed problem free to another in the past without an issue. I don't know why now this is a problem now.

I was given this Sony Viao (VGN- FW373J) laptop. It originally had Vista on it, then windows 7 Ultimate was installed (not sure if upgraded or clean install). I wanted to install 10 on it so I did but I did the clean install....going off information stating that I could do a clean install and using the windows 7 Ultimate key would work and activate it. It doesn't....I get the error message that: "this device doesn't have a valid digital entitlement or product key. Error code: 0x803F7001"

It didn't come with any of the rescue discs and when trying to make them....message said that they had already been made. Which was really weird. So what do I do now?

Just curious, though, did you install Windows 10 Pro?

I just solved a huge issue with windows 7 installation Freezing before it finished...

Now I am having a issue Activating it Windows 7 Home Premium on this HP G61

Due to the fact that the tag on the bottom of the laptop is worn and unreadable in parts, before I re-installed windows, I used a Product Key Grabber to grab what I thought was my windows key...
(This turned out to be a key registered to an ASUS laptop)

So now I have a fresh installation that needs activation and a half-unreadable product key.

I've read that you can call Microsoft support to activate over the phone, so I called them...
they told me I would have to call HP to get it, since Windows was preloaded on the machine when it was purchased...
So I called HP, after like 15 of trying to understand the lady who was asking random questions, she tells me that I have to purchase an extended warranty for them to read the product key to me, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS.

So my question is, what the hell do I do with this now?
Any advice would be appreciated.

A:Activating Windows 7

Not too sure, but it's either buy an extended warranty or buy Windows 7 and use that product key.

But, don't quote me, just guessing here.

Read other 5 answers

Two problems really.

1. Maybe I've never noticed it before but all of a sudden I keep seeing the popup for windows 8 activating again. Just seems strange that it would be trying to activate again even though it shows activated on 6/23/2013.

2. This problem is a little different. Different computer but activation problems again. My laptop for some reason last week kept asking me to reactivate over and over again. It would say successful and then I would go look and it was needing activation when I checked. It did this 4 or 5 times and it currently says activated. This one says activated 2/19/2013

These are both Windows 8 Enterprise from my MSDN.

Any ideas?

A:Windows 8 seems to be activating over and over

For each computer....

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt window (in Start, type 'Command' - a Command Prompt icon will appear, right-click on it, and select Run as Administrator)
At the Prompt, type

Licensingdiag.exe -report %userprofile%\desktop\report.txt -log %userprofile%\desktop\repfiles.cab

(note the spaces!)
two files will be put on your desktop -
open the 'report.txt' file in Notepad, and copy/paste the results to your response - you can ignore the repfiles.cab file for the moment, as it's only backup data

So my friend was using my computer (which did not have a 'genuine' windows, this is another problem) and he downloaded and installed some kind of software on my computer which was supposed to activate my windows. But a couple days later, when i turn on my computer it boots up normally up to the part where it is supposed to connect to the wifi. There is a spinning wheel above the wifi symbol, the security essentials is turned off and nothing i click on does anything. I tried to restored to a previous restore and nothing doing. I tried to removed the hackware in safemode, but the removed button becomes faded and nothing happens. I tried the repair system and again nothing. This sounds like the end of my hard drive. What do I do?

A:Activating windows

I do not know what your friend did but you do not need to download software to activate Windows. Those who do are typically attempting to use some type of crack or keygen program to circumvent Windows activation which is not only illegal but a security risk. I recommend that software be removed and you contact Microsoft if you are receiving messages about not having genuine windows.Microsoft maintains multiple Product Activation Centers worldwide to provide assistant and telephone support for activation issues. I have problem , I have 2 copies of Windows XP and recently have tried to update my Windows ME computer to XP I basically was having trouble with ME and wanted to have all three PCs on the same network using the same OS.

After wasting so many hours trying to get into Dos in Windows ME, I finally figured out how to format it and now I have installed Windows Xp. Everything went pretty smooth until I get to the Activation Screen.

I know have 30 days but I want to have this thing working now once and for all. I have tried to activate it over the phone but the automated system rejects the product key. I tried activating over the net and they tell me the same thing.

The product Key came with the disc. I am in the process of calling Microsoft but I was wondering if anyone knew what could be the problem here?

A:Activating Windows Xp

Do I understand that you have 2 copies of XP, but they are installed on 3 PC's?

Can't do that, every PC must have it's own licenced copy. It cannot be installed on more than one PC (or it fails activation).

However that may not be what you actually mean, it's hard to interpret exactly.

But if its a new, unused copy of XP that is failing activation then a phone call is needed.

Here's my situation:

Today I reinstalled windows because it was giving me problems, reinstalled some programs, recovered backed up documents etc. However, I still need to activate windows, but I can't. The product ID shown in my "System" panel is "invalid for activation," and when I try to change it, I cant do that either. I cant change it because (and I forgot to mention, I made this computer so its an OEM version of Vista) the product ID on the sticker that is supposed to go on your case is no longer valid because when I got a new motherboard, I had to call to activate windows. So I guess the question is, who do I call to get a new product ID, and what information do I need to tell them?

Yes you will need to purchase a license. Normally, licenses are not transferable to a new motherboard - unless the new motherboard is virtually identical (same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS version, etc.) to the one on which the WinXP installation was originally performed.

I am having a tad bit of a problem with computer, after a bit of hardware upgrades, I noticed that my Windows is no longer activated. And because I got the free upgrade from windows 7 to 10 with the whole update thingy, everything was dandy until now. I am not able to activate it, even though it says on my profile that I have Windows 10 pro on their website, but on my own settings, it says it unactive. I have a Sony Vaio SVE15113ENB laptop. It had windows 7 before but last month I purchased Windows 8.1 upgrade key. But instead of upgrading I downloaded the iso and then did a clean install. I don?t know if the problem is only with sony vaio?s that if you dont follow the proper procedure not all driver install properly. The same has happened with me. The sound driver is installed but does very feeble sound. As the vaio has this xLoud volume booster, it hasnt installed properly. So my question is whether I could use the windows 8.1 key I purchased to install windows 8.

Hope to hear from the experts here.

Thank you

A:Activating Windows 8

If you want to downgrade to Windows 8.0. then no, the 8.1 key will not work.

Unless there is compelling evidence that the 8.0 drivers work better, perhaps it would be better try re-installing various driver versions, if not the the OS itself.

I got my Samsung Series 9 repaired and, as a result of some component changes, Windows 8 is no longer activated. Can I use a copy of Windows 8 Pro (which is intended to allow Windows 7, Vista and XP users to upgrade to Windows 8) to activate Windows 8? In other words, will the product key of an upgrade package allow me activate Windows 8, despite it not being an upgrade (my computer came with Windows 8 pre-installed).

A:Activating Windows 8

In this case your first point of contact should be Samsung Support, if you contact them and explain the situation they should organise activation of the pre-installed OS. Microsoft may be an option though pre-installed OS is officially the responsibility of the OEM.

It may be possible to "upgrade" using a retail copy of pro, but then of course you would lose the use of the pre-installed copy that you have already paid for

XP checks for "points" on bootup and it looks at the hardware and CPU, and everything until it adds up 7 points. Then it boots. Anything less is a re-activate. You said you updated firmware for your ROMS. That may in effect make XP think the drives had changed. Normally, one drive at a time, nothing happens, but when you make 2 or more hardware changes, the XP wants to know why. Activation over the phone is easy. Just tell the person what you have done and they will give you an ungodly long number to enter. Like 42 digits. Nothing to it. Took me less than 3 minutes to do.

I am having a weird problem . Today i was installing windows 7 professional . I have the MSDN academic licensce key .After installing OS i connected to Internet to activate it online . When i tried to enter my key . I got an error -- unacceptable character
--Please check your product key  and try again . when i tried a number of times i still got the same error . The weird thing is I found that the key made of all characters except " a,e,i,l,n,o,u,s,z " is accepted but the error is only for these characters
. Even if the first chracter i enter is happens to be one of these I get the same error ..Cant understand why it is happening ...? It is my first installation with this key which i got from my college. Any help Please...
Thanks in advance

Like you noticed youself, the characters you specified are indeed not used in license keys. If those characters are present in your license key, you should consult with the source you got them from.

Hey guys, I have installed Windows 8 Pro on my Laptop and I want to activate it by phone or probably by SMS. How can I do it? I want step by step tutorial...

A:Activating Windows 8 by phone or sms.

Hello MrRitwik,

By default, Windows 8 requires you to enter your product key number during installation to activate it. If you have a Windows 8 installed on your computer, then it should already be activated. What happened for why your copy isn't activated?

You could use the tutorial below to enter you product key number to activate Windows 8 online.
Product Key Number - Change in Windows 8

You can use the same method in the tutorial below for Windows 7 to activate Windows 8 by phone.

Hope this helps,

I have a T480s with the optional Windows Hello cameras and the fingerprint sensor. Sometime last night, I opened my laptop and discovered that Windows wasn't turning on the IR cameras. The error given was "Something went wrong. Please sign in with your PIN." Since then, I've been unable to use Windows Hello facial recognition. Other information:Windows Hello still appears in the settings, but only the options for fingerprints. The facial recognition settings do not appear in the Windows Hello settings. Both cameras (IR and normal) appear in Device Manager and Windows says both are working fine.My TPM chip is working fine. The fingerprint sensor still worksTroubleshooting I have tried:Re-installing the IR camera in device manager, both with and without removing the drivers.Installing the camera drivers directly from Lenovo's websiteInstalling the most recent BIOS (LENOVO N22ET52W (1.29 ), 1/16/2019).Recently installed updates:KB4487029The most recent update to Intel SGX: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-T-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-...Sorry for the lengthy post, but I want to make it clear that I've exhausted all of the options I can think of to try. As I still have warranty, I did contact customer support; the first agent told me to go away and run Vantage, and the second one started an RMA process for me. I'd prefer to fix this myself because I don't want to be without my laptop for upwards of a week, so I'm open to suggestio... I cant currently activate my retail copy of windows 7 on my pc. I think it is because I have another harddrive I use to use as a laptop HD which I currently use in my desktop, that has the key activated on it. Would I have to deactivate my windows 7 key on my other hard drive in order to be able to activate it on my main hard drive

A:activating/deactivating windows.

You can't run the same installation Product Key on 2 computers. You can run the Retail version on a Replacement computer but would have to uninstall it from the first. And if Upgrading to a newer OS you have to keep the media and documentation for proof of having the previous version. My experience has been that you will have to contact Microsoft by phone to straighten it out, should have been a current phone number listed on the screen that came up when trying to activate.

I recently got a new PC via my insurance company that came with Windows 8 standard. I requested pro be included with it and they gave me an OEM Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. I have blanked the hard drive and installed it. During the install it does not ask for the product key. Once the install is complete I go to system info and it says Windows is already activated and shows a product key that ends in OEM. At the top it shows the name of the product as Windows 8. If I go to add features it tells me I need to buy pro. If I try to change or use the product key that came in the oem packaging for pro 64 bit it says that product key will not work and to try another.

I contacted Microsoft activation and all they said was to take it back to the retailer and they will help me.

A:Windows 8 Pro 64 bit OEM activating as standard

It does sound like they botched the install. Is it UEFI Bios with embedded key? There are tools to get the embedded key and then you could try it. If it doesn't work then it may never have been Pro to begin with.

Are you saying the computer came with 8 installed but then they gave you a Pro key? I'm a bit confused.

I was wondering if it's possible to activate an N-edition of Windows 7 (e.g Windows 7 Home Premium N) with a non-N (e.g Windows 7 Home Premium) product key?

Thanks in advance.

A:Activating Windows 7 N with a regular (non-N) key

Welcome to Seven Forums.

I don't think it's possible, the non-N key is generally for activation in the US while the N versions are for Europe. You can give it a try though, nothing lost.

So I had to get a new mobo / cpu due to my board finally failing on me. I used a windows 7 upgrade (30 bucks since I'm a student promo thing), but now after doing a clean install of 7 on a new HDD because I didn't want to format my old drive, I can't activate windows because I did a clean install versus upgrading it.

Is there a solution to getting it to activate?

Thanks for the help in advanced.

I'm trying to fix my Dad's laptop here and having some problems. His hard drive died on him, so I replaced it. The computer came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit on it. Thats also the only OS Sony's website has drivers for, that OS. It actually has Windows XP drivers as well. The sticker on the bottom is rubbed off almost completely, I can hardly read the code but I think I got it. Now most Windows 7 Product keys on new PC's are blue and white the label itself that is. This one looks like it's a Windows Vista or maybe XP? The laptop was bought a year ago, so I couldn't imagine it being XP. It also has a windows 7 sticker on it. Well I installed Windows 7 and the product key didnt work, I tried it changing all the letters I wasn't sure of, couldn't gt it. Installed Vista, but I cant find drivers for it at all. The thing that gets me, it does not look like a Windows 7 key label at all unless older ones came in blue green and red like Vista's and XP.

Any help/advice would be great.

I'd contact the seller of the notebook and ask them for the key.

when I click on something I want to see in favorites it will not take me to the site I want. what do I do

A:activating favorites in windows 10

Hi, welcome to tenforums.

I need to know a bit more as this is not a problem I've seen yet.
1. Can you browse normally? (e.g. search and open sites)
2. Which browser are you using?
3. Can you right click on your favourite, scroll down and click on 'Properties', expand it so all text is visible, and then post a screenshot and cut and paste the URL shown into your response?
4. Is this a new problem - i.e. could you use favourites successfully before, and now not? If so, what change do you think has been made?
