I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

The symptoms seem to match . The support tip you reference is being updated in the next 24-48 hours.
You might try this alternate / new solution....

SYMPTOM:

In ThinkPad 11e Chromebook and ThinkPad Yoga 11e Chromebook, the battery may experience poor longevity or not be able to power the system with the battery alone.

SOLUTION:

To update the battery firmware:

Logon to the Chromebook and update the Chromebook to the latest version of Chrome OS. (https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/177889?hl=en)
Press Ctrl-Alt-T to enter the crosh terminal page.
Plug in the A/C power adapter and keep it plugged while performing the following step.
In the crosh terminal page, type battery_firmware update and press Enter to update the firmware. It may take up to 10 minutes. Do not remove A/C power until the update has completed.

I just recently bought this yoga 720 and saw online that the battery life is supposed to be around 8 to 10 hours. However, I am only getting around 4 hours of battery life. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or what might be causing it. Recently I've only been watching youtube videos so I'm not running any super intensive programs. I have 8th gen i7, 16gb ram, 1 tb ssd, and the uhd 620 graphics card.

A:Yoga 720: short battery life

YouTube videos can be more intensive than you think. And there may be other things running in the background (virus scanners, Windows Updates, cloud storage synchronization) that are shortening your battery life. Battery life claims on just about anything battery-powered are usually best-case scenarios. I can get 6-8 hours out of my 920. But to do that, I do little more than word processing in airplane mode with the screen brightness as dim as I can handle it. Virus scanners are disabled, no external devices attached. If I connect it to my television and stream Amazon movies with the wireless keyboard and mouse attached for control, then 4-5 hours is about all I get, too.

Check Task Manager to see what else is runing. Tweak your virus scanner and any other background programs you have. Turn off anything you can. That'll stretch it.

My Yoga 2 11 bought had been getting good battery life (5-6 hours) but now (in an instant) it's draining very fast (1-2 hours MAX on a full charge) and it's unusually hot underneath. It's always been used on a clean, hard surface. Help???

A:Yoga 2 11 Running hot with short battery life

Hi David_EMG  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It would help if you can generate a battery report ( ac charger unplugged).
How is the battery health if you hover the cursor on the battery icon below?

Battery is a consumable part and depletes its resources in time and heat is one of the factors that can affect battery life. Try running hardware diagnostics along side with this and this test for comparison.

Check the battery status LED indicator (page29) if it goes to the changes from amber blinking to solid white on full charge .  Calibration either using the energy manager via battery gauge reset can also help. Manually you can allow the battery to completely drain and wait for 1-2 hours and then charge it full.

Update us how things go.

Regards

Hi,
I've got problematic Dell Inspiron 1564. Suspected bad video.
When turned on, screen is blank and beep codes are "long-short-short-pause-short-short".
I can't find info about this beep code. I've found that long-short-short is bad video but what about next two short beeps?
Hard drive activity looks normal after that and I guess system works fine except graphics.External video output doesn't work.

A photo colleague dumped his Chromebook on my lap (gratis) with some [email protected]#$ comments ... I will not comment as to why, and I thought this could replace my clunky W540 for pre made portfolio/slide or video presentations. OK, here is the deal.  The Cloud storage is nice, but I'm off on the road with no WiFi, at a client's house. Last time I tested the Chrome Cloud, the presentation 'stuttered' and the flow was disconcerting, and was a discredit to my abilities. I have mutliple prsentations, and 16gb is not enough, particularly when visiting distinct client with different or multiple  portfolio requirements. Is there any way to change the 16gb standard card to a 64gb (There are now 200gb micro SD cards!): Sandisk 200GB SD - The future. I hate to fiddle with the built in SD port, not counting the potential loss of these tiny cards.  I would like it to be an  internal or at least sealed and protected from accidental 'pop-outs'. As the eMMC is actually built on the SD card protocol, can I open and replace the meager 16gb with a more modern larger storage for of WiFi use. Any hack or hints before I pass this unit off, would be appreciated.  Incredible 'oyster' closure system.  Even the Chrome Pixel has a lid finger catch groove.

I do have and use the "SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive":  Did not try it in Chromebook yet, as the Google Store does not seem to have the Chrome extension.  It does play well on my Adroids (Cell and Tablet). Sandisk Wireless Media drive. That may be a way to go if I can get it to work as just a raw drive using some workaround software controls.  I guess another workaround and something else to carry & lose.

I have a Chromebook that won't charge and the battery is dead.  When I plug its power adapter in, the charging light does not come on and I've had it plugged in for 3 days and the Chromebooks battery is still dead.  I tried using another power adapter from another Chromebook of the same model.  The charge light did not come on and it did  not charge the battery.  When I plugged the power adapter from the Chrombook with the dead battery into the other Chromebook, the charging light came on and it appeared to charge that Chromebook, so I'm pretty sure the problem is with the battery.  I had this same issue with this Chromebook last fall and I believe I had to replace the battery.  What would be causing this Chromebook to be going through batteries like this?

I've had my Chromebook for a little over two years without incident. Recently, the battery refused to charge - stuck at 1%. Scanning the forums, I found an answer - poking a small hole on the bottom cover which, purported to be the equivalent of removing and re-inserting the battery. It did, in fact, get me by the 1% problem. My battery does re-charge to 100% now. However, it drains abnormally fast. Leaving it in "sleep" mode for a day results in a pretty much completely drained. This is new behaviour.Does anyone know the life expectancy of this model's battery? Before going through the hassle and expense of a new battery, I want to be sure there isn't some other explanation. Thanks.

I am a Tech 3 at a school district. We have deployed over 11k Dell Chromebook 11's. We have an insanely high amount of Battery/Charging issues. We have been doing TechDirect replacement SR's. When these brand new batteries arrive, we are still getting battery errors, in the forms of: Not Charging; CB not recognizing a battery is installed; Indicator lights flashing Amber (which means there is a battery error).
Dell TechDirect does NOT want to send us new motherboards, which other forums have pinpointed as the culprits in almost ALL these cases. What can we do, and/or are we on the wrong path when suggesting new motherboards for battery errors from brand new warranty replacements.

Hi Pushdits,
Thanks for posting.
Since this board is predominately Consumer related, your issue falls into the category of a Commercial customer, and as such your school district has an account rep assigned to it.  First suggestion would be to get with your Technical Account Manager, and if that's not working, contact their manager.  If all that fails, please get back to me privately and include your customer number, and I'll see what can be done.  Thanks.

Last week, I purchased a refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad 11e Yoga Chromebook.  When I received it, it was sealed in the original packaging with a sticker indicating that it had been refurbished at a Lenovo facility.  When I turned it on, I got stuck at the Enterprise Enrollment screen.  It seems that it was registered to the domain of the original owner and would not let anyone login without credentials for that domain.  The trackpad was also non-responsive, but I figured once I logged in, I could toggle the trackpad settings and get it working. There was a link to contact Google for help with this, so I followed those instructions.  Google said that they could not help me, and that I'd need to contact the original owner to have them de-register the device.  Since I had no connection to the original owner, I contacted the seller who apologized and told me that, since the device had a full warranty, Lenovo should be able to fix the issue. So, I contacted Lenovo for help on Sunday.  The Tech Support Agent that I spoke to first tried to tell me to return the device and get something that ran Windows since Chrome OS and Android are inferior(!).  Anyway, once I assured him that I did indeed want a Chromebook and knew all about Chrome OS, he told me that I could send it in for repair, and that all they'd need to do was wipe the system and re-install the OS with a consumer image instead of the enterprise image that was on the m... Just got this laptop yesterday.  My old laptop had a removable battery, so I would keep it plugged in and take the battery out to conserve its lifespan.  The battery cannot be removed from this ideapad and I was not able to locate the settings for the battery (still getting used to Chrome OS).  Just want a suggestion on when to charge and when to unplug to prolong the lifespan of the battery as long as possible.  I use it at home so the duration it lasts is not an issue. Should I only charge it when the battery gets low and unplug at 100%? How can I change the settings? Not that knowledgeable on the subject, so thanks in advance for any help.

The best thing to do is to keep in in the charger and once a month let it discharge till 20%. It's much better to discharge a little bit and charge it again when it hits like 60 to 80%. This is the best way to preserve the battery life.

Good day.

A number of folks have commented that they would like a longer reach with the cabling.
What I've personally done is to get a short, inexpensive extension cord that I plug the power block into, and then plug that cord into the wall receptacle. This arrangement mimics, in some ways, the design used on other Lenovo laptops.

Hope this helps a bit.

When I got my Spectre about 6 mo ago I go 8-10 hrs on a charge when doing word processing and e-mail.  However that recently dropped to less than 4 hrs.  After spending several hours with HP Support, we could find nothing obviously wrong with the machine.  A look at the Task Manager CPU useage revealed nothing extraordinary and the HP Battery check indicated the battery was "ok".  In preparing to send the machine back to HP, I decided to first try to reimage it, i.e. wipe the disk and reload the operating system.  HP makes this easy to do.  Once the new image was installed I methodically  loaded each of my major applications one-by-one and retested the battery life after each install.  I now get 8-10 hrs of battery life. During this process I did not update any of the drivers.  This suggests that one of the recent driver upgrades is the culprit to my battery problem so I'm now much more cautious in accepting these.  I always do a restore point before proceeding and test the battery life afterwards. Testing the battery life can be done in several ways.  The key is consistency.  The method I use is to edit the power settings so that the screen stays on and the machine remains awake.  I then just let it sit for a while.  I typically see a loss of 10% of battery power per hour.  Prior to the reimage I saw 25-30% reduction per hour.

We purchaced a dozen X1 carbon 3444-CU laptops a while back and were seeing short battery life and they seem to be getting hotter then what I would concider "normal". I'm looking to find out what the "normal" is. Our users have an RPD session constantly open along with between 1-5 chrome tabs. What is the battery life range on a X1 carbon 3444-CU?What is the max heat that the X1 carbon 3444-CU is going to give off?

A:Short Battery Life, but a lot of heat.

Hi cdeveringham, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

According to the PSREF (PDF), when new that machine delivered "up to 8.2 hr" of life. It won't get anywhere near that for two reasons: 1. The machine is at least 5 years old and the battery will be close to the end of its life ,and normal aging results in degraded runtime (unless you replaced it). 2. The claimed runtime, particulalry at that time, assumed a favorable setup rarely used in real life. I would assume about half for a new battery, less if your setup is more power-hungry.

As for them getting hotter than "normal" it's possible that what today's Windows and applications are working the machine harder than they were 5 years ago. Lenovo doesn't publish "max heat given off".

Hope this helps!

I have a Gateway NV53A36U laptop computer that has short circuited. I inserted the battery while the system was running on adapter power, but as I put it in sparks flew from the battery contacts. I took the battery out, flipped the computer back over, and the screen was black and the battery status LED was pink. Taking the laptop apart I found that the blue and orange LEDs were both on at the same time, and the laptop no longer powers on. Both LEDs for the battery light up when I connect power, and the power LED flashes briefly a few times when I press the power button.

The battery contacts' solder connections appear burnt, but no other connections are visibly affected (except maybe the nearby resistor?) and all the laptop's components beside the motherboard are tested okay in other computers. (CPU, power adapter, power jack, CPU, memory, disk, LCD assembly are okay.) The short seems isolated to the battery or power circuit, but I'm not sure how to proceed. I have the schematic which can be found by searching the motherboard's Compal model number.

I've bought a replacement motherboard but it has a weaker GPU, so I'd like to try repairing the old one. I do not have enough experience to trust myself to swap the GPU and memory chips, so fixing the short circuit is preferable. Ideas?

I am a Yoga 700-14ISK user for 2 years. And I had encounter serveral issues with this laptop before (and the service center helped me to fix them) However, now there is an issue I just have now - my battery is draining fast like 1% lost per 2-3 min for light usage (browsing on Chrome or doing my schoolwork either on Microsoft Office or Google Drive) I suspected it was due to my battery wear level. However, as I monitored it, I realised it keep fluctuating (from 19.64% to 42.02%) until I re-calibrate which gives me 38.51% and then 38.71% after a charge to 60%. Is it possible the battery wear level can cause the quick drain in battery?  Is this battery wear level normal? I would also like to point out that I had the battery changed over a year ago and I normally used my laptop for schoolwork and gaming (occasionally now after realising the issue.) I am also going to have an internship (at least 6 months) from July so I am very worried that my laptop can't last long especially its battery. Hence, should I go to a Lenovo service center and request for a battery replacement? Please give me any possible reasons on why the laptop battery starts to drain fast and its battery wear level sharp increase, and also possible solutions for these issues. I would like to know more about it in order to sustain my laptop at least for a year.

Earlier today, I had shut the lid on my Chromebook (putting it into standby mode) and had put it away. At this point it had full power. About half an hour later, I had opened it up again, but it had shut off, and I coudn't get it to turn on again until I plugged it in to auxilary power. When it revived, it still had full battery, but had forgotten the details of the network until I had signed in. This is similar to another issue, wherein the system will occasionally stop opening and running user-installed applications and block any access to local storage (such as viewing and downloading files), citing lack of permission (which does not apply otherwise), until restarting and logging in again. My device is fully up-to-date on the stable update stream. Why am I having these issues? Are there any ways to fix this permanently (aside from purchasing a different device)?
