I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

ablackoka,

The symptoms seem to match . The support tip you reference is being updated in the next 24-48 hours.
You might try this alternate / new solution....

SYMPTOM:

In ThinkPad 11e Chromebook and ThinkPad Yoga 11e Chromebook, the battery may experience poor longevity or not be able to power the system with the battery alone.

SOLUTION:

To update the battery firmware:

Logon to the Chromebook and update the Chromebook to the latest version of Chrome OS. (https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/177889?hl=en)
Press Ctrl-Alt-T to enter the crosh terminal page.
Plug in the A/C power adapter and keep it plugged while performing the following step.
In the crosh terminal page, type battery_firmware update and press Enter to update the firmware. It may take up to 10 minutes. Do not remove A/C power until the update has completed.

I just recently bought this yoga 720 and saw online that the battery life is supposed to be around 8 to 10 hours. However, I am only getting around 4 hours of battery life. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or what might be causing it. Recently I've only been watching youtube videos so I'm not running any super intensive programs. I have 8th gen i7, 16gb ram, 1 tb ssd, and the uhd 620 graphics card.

A:Yoga 720: short battery life

YouTube videos can be more intensive than you think. And there may be other things running in the background (virus scanners, Windows Updates, cloud storage synchronization) that are shortening your battery life. Battery life claims on just about anything battery-powered are usually best-case scenarios. I can get 6-8 hours out of my 920. But to do that, I do little more than word processing in airplane mode with the screen brightness as dim as I can handle it. Virus scanners are disabled, no external devices attached. If I connect it to my television and stream Amazon movies with the wireless keyboard and mouse attached for control, then 4-5 hours is about all I get, too.

Check Task Manager to see what else is runing. Tweak your virus scanner and any other background programs you have. Turn off anything you can. That'll stretch it.

Hi Centurio_Macro,

Greetings.

Similar to this discussion, Cloud storage do takes toll on the battery as it constantly perform synchonization and updates.

This would be the same reason others prefer to disable it or at least apply battery saver mode or notification alert like here to be aware of the activity and the battery consumption.

I hope this helps answer your query.

I bought a Yoga 920 about 6 weeks ago and have been loving it, largely because of the touch screen and pen features. However, I've had to replace the batteries in my Active Pen 2 twice already--they are not getting anywhere near the advertised 2000 hours of battery life, I would say they are dying after more like 50-100 hours of active use (I generally only use the pen to read and comment on documents for work).  Are there any settings to improve battery life? Should I not be storing it near the laptop? Is my pen defective? What can I do about this?

My Yoga 2 11 bought had been getting good battery life (5-6 hours) but now (in an instant) it's draining very fast (1-2 hours MAX on a full charge) and it's unusually hot underneath. It's always been used on a clean, hard surface. Help???

A:Yoga 2 11 Running hot with short battery life

Hi David_EMG  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It would help if you can generate a battery report ( ac charger unplugged).
How is the battery health if you hover the cursor on the battery icon below?

Battery is a consumable part and depletes its resources in time and heat is one of the factors that can affect battery life. Try running hardware diagnostics along side with this and this test for comparison.

Check the battery status LED indicator (page29) if it goes to the changes from amber blinking to solid white on full charge .  Calibration either using the energy manager via battery gauge reset can also help. Manually you can allow the battery to completely drain and wait for 1-2 hours and then charge it full.

Update us how things go.

Hi,
I've got problematic Dell Inspiron 1564. Suspected bad video.
When turned on, screen is blank and beep codes are "long-short-short-pause-short-short".
I can't find info about this beep code. I've found that long-short-short is bad video but what about next two short beeps?
Hard drive activity looks normal after that and I guess system works fine except graphics.External video output doesn't work.

I've had my Chromebook for a little over two years without incident. Recently, the battery refused to charge - stuck at 1%. Scanning the forums, I found an answer - poking a small hole on the bottom cover which, purported to be the equivalent of removing and re-inserting the battery. It did, in fact, get me by the 1% problem. My battery does re-charge to 100% now. However, it drains abnormally fast. Leaving it in "sleep" mode for a day results in a pretty much completely drained. This is new behaviour.Does anyone know the life expectancy of this model's battery? Before going through the hassle and expense of a new battery, I want to be sure there isn't some other explanation. Thanks.

In the bottom right corner it says it's charging but stays at 1% and if you remove the power chord after leaving it for hours the Chromebook won't turn on.  There is zero helpful info about HP Chromebooks anywhere on the website. The only thread I could find with help directed people to a battery checking page. Everything on that page is specific to Windows machines and can't do anything. I really feel lost here as I've never had a piece of technology with zero support and no way to get help. Can someone please help me figure out how to warranty this thing? I have a Chromebook that won't charge and the battery is dead.  When I plug its power adapter in, the charging light does not come on and I've had it plugged in for 3 days and the Chromebooks battery is still dead.  I tried using another power adapter from another Chromebook of the same model.  The charge light did not come on and it did  not charge the battery.  When I plugged the power adapter from the Chrombook with the dead battery into the other Chromebook, the charging light came on and it appeared to charge that Chromebook, so I'm pretty sure the problem is with the battery.  I had this same issue with this Chromebook last fall and I believe I had to replace the battery.  What would be causing this Chromebook to be going through batteries like this?

A:Chromebook Battery Won't Charge

if you are using the chromebook with the ac plugged in without removing it .. thats cause the battery damage .. you need to charge the battery at 10%  and you can take the ac off when the battery charges 95%   thats the safest way to charge the battery

I have a Chromebook 11 just two years old. The battery has stopped working. It won't charge. Have done powerwash restoration; have unseated the battery and then reconnected. Wondering how many other people have had such a problem and if any have a fix. Or is it just, sigh, another Dell computer that doesn't survive past 2 years?

A photo colleague dumped his Chromebook on my lap (gratis) with some [email protected]#$ comments ... I will not comment as to why, and I thought this could replace my clunky W540 for pre made portfolio/slide or video presentations. OK, here is the deal.  The Cloud storage is nice, but I'm off on the road with no WiFi, at a client's house. Last time I tested the Chrome Cloud, the presentation 'stuttered' and the flow was disconcerting, and was a discredit to my abilities. I have mutliple prsentations, and 16gb is not enough, particularly when visiting distinct client with different or multiple  portfolio requirements. Is there any way to change the 16gb standard card to a 64gb (There are now 200gb micro SD cards!): Sandisk 200GB SD - The future. I hate to fiddle with the built in SD port, not counting the potential loss of these tiny cards.  I would like it to be an  internal or at least sealed and protected from accidental 'pop-outs'. As the eMMC is actually built on the SD card protocol, can I open and replace the meager 16gb with a more modern larger storage for of WiFi use. Any hack or hints before I pass this unit off, would be appreciated.  Incredible 'oyster' closure system.  Even the Chrome Pixel has a lid finger catch groove.

I am a Tech 3 at a school district. We have deployed over 11k Dell Chromebook 11's. We have an insanely high amount of Battery/Charging issues. We have been doing TechDirect replacement SR's. When these brand new batteries arrive, we are still getting battery errors, in the forms of: Not Charging; CB not recognizing a battery is installed; Indicator lights flashing Amber (which means there is a battery error).
Dell TechDirect does NOT want to send us new motherboards, which other forums have pinpointed as the culprits in almost ALL these cases. What can we do, and/or are we on the wrong path when suggesting new motherboards for battery errors from brand new warranty replacements.

A:Dell Chromebook 11 Battery Issues

Hi Pushdits,
Thanks for posting.
Since this board is predominately Consumer related, your issue falls into the category of a Commercial customer, and as such your school district has an account rep assigned to it.  First suggestion would be to get with your Technical Account Manager, and if that's not working, contact their manager.  If all that fails, please get back to me privately and include your customer number, and I'll see what can be done.  Thanks.

Just got this laptop yesterday.  My old laptop had a removable battery, so I would keep it plugged in and take the battery out to conserve its lifespan.  The battery cannot be removed from this ideapad and I was not able to locate the settings for the battery (still getting used to Chrome OS).  Just want a suggestion on when to charge and when to unplug to prolong the lifespan of the battery as long as possible.  I use it at home so the duration it lasts is not an issue. Should I only charge it when the battery gets low and unplug at 100%? How can I change the settings? Not that knowledgeable on the subject, so thanks in advance for any help.

A:IdeaPad N20P Chromebook Battery Care

The best thing to do is to keep in in the charger and once a month let it discharge till 20%. It's much better to discharge a little bit and charge it again when it hits like 60 to 80%. This is the best way to preserve the battery life.

Hi,  I recently updated my BIOS to the latest version using the System Update tool from Lenovo. For a while everything seemed to be working alright, as the BIOS was dowloaded and the computer rebooted. After rebooting the first time i was presented with the BIOS utility, and noticed that the update was progressing.  After 20 or so seconds the computer rebooted again. This is where my problems began. The computer immediately started beeping this short-short-short-long melody from the speakers. I thought this was normal, so I left the computer on for quite a while.  However, the beeping never stopped. Now the beeping resumed the instant i plug the power back in. I have yet been able to actually getting any sort of information on-screen telling me what's wrong.  I've tried following the "Recovering from a POST/BIOS update failure" on page 267 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual, but no luck with that so far. No matter where I place the jumper, the beeping code is the same short-short-short-long melody (yeah, it sounds like a disney tune or something). Any bright ideas? The machine type is a M92p 2992-B3G I'd hate to have to send it in for repairs, and Lenovo's Norwegian support line doesn't open until Monday, and there seems to be no way to call their 800-number in the states from here  Oh, and would this be covered by my warranty if repairs / motherboard replacement is the only way out? UPDATE #1: I found... I usually just hard reboot as a workaround. I've seen review articles mention freezing as well, which were chalked up to running linux apps, which I did not run when this started, but are running now: https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/02/22/lenovo-yoga-chromebook-c630-4k-review/ I'm running Version 73.0.3683.88 (Official Build) (64-bit), and this has occurred across multiple verison of Chrome OS. It first occured the first time I started using the laptop and signed into my account. I restored from a USB flash drive which appeared to resolve the issues for multiple days whereupon it started happening again. Has anyone else seen this? What's the support option here since I've already wiped the chromebook? Must it be a hardware problem?

I just got a new Yoga 11e Chromebook and can't get the two-finger right-click touchpad function to work. The Settings for the touchpad don't seem to apply. Any ideas?  I went to the Lenovo support site to see about updated drivers, but none were shown.

When I got my Spectre about 6 mo ago I go 8-10 hrs on a charge when doing word processing and e-mail.  However that recently dropped to less than 4 hrs.  After spending several hours with HP Support, we could find nothing obviously wrong with the machine.  A look at the Task Manager CPU useage revealed nothing extraordinary and the HP Battery check indicated the battery was "ok".  In preparing to send the machine back to HP, I decided to first try to reimage it, i.e. wipe the disk and reload the operating system.  HP makes this easy to do.  Once the new image was installed I methodically  loaded each of my major applications one-by-one and retested the battery life after each install.  I now get 8-10 hrs of battery life. During this process I did not update any of the drivers.  This suggests that one of the recent driver upgrades is the culprit to my battery problem so I'm now much more cautious in accepting these.  I always do a restore point before proceeding and test the battery life afterwards. Testing the battery life can be done in several ways.  The key is consistency.  The method I use is to edit the power settings so that the screen stays on and the machine remains awake.  I then just let it sit for a while.  I typically see a loss of 10% of battery power per hour.  Prior to the reimage I saw 25-30% reduction per hour.

Hi all, After my laptop battery died, the screen shutdown and I heard a short pop sound. I was able to start the laptop again and it was charging fine and have encounted no problems so far. However, the short pop sound is very concerning. Just in case something happened, is there a way to check if there is a hardware problem?  Thank you.
