Press the "Recovery Button" NOT THE POWER BUTTON (A small round button with curve arrow sign which is located on the left side of the Power Button just next to the dust removal opening on the left side of the laptop)3. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone I am having a bit of trouble with this G580 lenovo laptop, which can't boot.Problem: HDD and CD/DVD is visible in info tap in bios, however they are not visible in the boot tap, only EFI network IP4 and IP6 are visible. I tried switching the HDD at first just to make sure if it would do anything, but did not work, so i switched back. But i have never seen this kind of issue before, so i actually have no idea what to do. The bios version installed is V9.01 i hope if anyone have an idea that might help solve this issue. --Mootix--

A:Lenovo G580 - Boot menu can not find CD/DVD, HDD, or USB's

Okay it seems i have resolved my own issue, i will report how and what i did so anyone with the same issue can try this. Okay so apparently the Bios were setup to only reqister boot devices that had something to do with Windows 8, meaning that the harddrive which was completely empty of any data, had nothing to do with Windows 8 and therefor can't be booted with the current Bios settings. 1. Go to the Security tap and disable "Secure boot" only temp.2. Go to the Boot tap and change "Boot mode" from UEFI to Legacy Support.3. In the Boot tap change "Boot prio" to "Legacy First".4. Reboot and press F2 and check the boot tap for the HDD under "Boot device prio"Done I think that since the HDD don't have Win8 installed it will not show as a boot device unless it is on Legacy Support.Becuz UEFI on the G580 only supports HDD with a installed Win8 OS. I should now be able to reinstall Win 8 - 8.1 to the HDD.

I have a Lenovo G580 20157. Preinstalled with windows 8. I installed Ubuntu 16.10 and removed windows completely. When I resized the Ubuntu partition to take over Windows partition everything went smooth until I plugged it in. Now I'm stuck in a boot loop. I have tried every fix, except the bios recovery for Phoenix can't find the bios.wph file. Should mention hard drive was completely erased. Can't do anything now, not even bios menu. Please any suggestion I'll try.

My rule of thumb with BIOS updates is "if it is not broke, do not try to fix it" because there is always an inherent risk that a BIOS update can fail, and if so, leave  the system bricked (dead) requirnig a new motherboard, and there does not appear to be anything in the latest updates readme.txt other than specific fixes for Windows 8.1... So I would hold off. Summary of changes

Hello Everyone, Its a much discussed yet embarassing problem. I have a G580 with intel i3 processor. The machine is quite old (5 years i think) and has been subject to various OS upgrades, changes, flashes, dual boots systems like ubuntu & windows. Recently to upgrade the machine i bought an i7 processor (yes it is compatible, i checked the hardware manuals). Once installed  the display wont come on, i figured i needed a BIOS update. Thats where the terrible stuff started. I tried using the BIOS update tool downloaded from the official lenovo website with windows 10. As soon as i launched it, the command prompt like window opened and my computer froze. That happned a few times. Figuring, it might resolve itself I left it alone for 3 hours but it was still frozen. Also figuring that the tool is for windows 7 i ran it on compatibility mode. Still the same result. I read on some forum a guy had the same issue and it was resolved by reverting to windows 7. So i bought a new copy of windows 7 (yes i really want that i7 processor). Installed it and tried to run the tool. Still, it froze the minute the window opened (another 3 hour gesticulation time was given to he machine to unfreeze itself but in vain). So i tried to access the bios to see if there was a supervisor password preventing me from entering. Thats when i discovered that i could nnot access the bios at all. Ive attached some screenshots in the end to explain. Startup... Read more

Hello, The Problem:Recently I installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS  to my HDD in UEFI mode. Soon I found out that I could not access the BIOS using F2, but F12 allowed selection of boot device. Reinstalling Windows, I found out that the boot menu still had the Ubuntu entry and I still could not access the BIOS. I searched on the web for a solution and before I could manage to find a proper one, I managed to delete both the ubuntu and windows boot manager boot entries, still locked out of bios. This time I could not boot into any OS, could not access bios using f2 nor access boot menu using f12.  The Solution:There was one last hope, during boot I noticed that PXE (Boot via ethernet option was still showing).Note: This solution requires you to update the BIOS. This is a very risky procedure, so proceed with caution. This will also probably void your warranty. If you can access boot menu (F12) and want to regain access to the BIOS (F2), boot into Windows 7. Install a bios update for your laptop (specifically for your laptop) available at The Lenovo Support Site. The oldest BIOS (probably for Windows 7) is preffered. If you donot have access to windows 7, perform step 2 and boot into the created ISO by creating a bootable CD or pendrive. Then goto step 11.If you can't access F12 and F2, cannot boot into OS, but can boot via Ethernet (there should be a message about trying Atheros Ethernet PXE Boot during startup), start from step 1. I came across a solution on the internet, that works without having to update the BIOS if Ubuntu can be accessed. To fix it, boot into Ubuntu (should be installed on the system), start Terminal and type in the following commands:sudo grub-install
sudo efibootmgr -b 0 -BReboot and F2 should work. BIOS should be accessible through F12>Tab>Setup also. Ubuntu will boot no more but can probably be fixed.

Hi

I got a new Lenovo G580 laptop which did not come with any pre-installed OS. I installed Ubuntu in UEFI mode (I had not disabled UEFI/Secure Boot). Later I installed Windows 7. During installation it asked me to format the entire format as it did not recognize the GPT partition. Accordingly without thinking twice I erased the entire HDD and installed Windows 7. Now I am unable to enter into BIOS

Things I have tried:
Tried with F2, F1 and Delete keys while booting
Tried removing the battery and booting while pressing the above keys individually
Tried removing the battery and adapter, held the power button for 1 minute
Tried removing the battery and held the power button for 1 minute while the adapter was plugged in
Tried pressing F12 and going to the APP MENU but I can only see "Diagnostic Splash" Nothing else and in that diagnostic splash screen I see that the System BIOS is "shadowed"
How can i gain access to BIOS so I can disable UEFI and install Win 7 and Ubuntu side by side

hi adarsh_savant,

I think you may have concern in this thread,
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/G580-Bios-update-problem/m-p/1199186/highlight...

Here the suggested solution from neokenchi that helped.

1. Boot into the BIOS by repeatedly tapping F2 on startup

2. In the BIOS, navigate to the Boot Tab and set UEFI to Disabled or Legacy then press F10 to save and exit. When
the computer reboots, check if you still get the errors and/or if you're able to boot into Windows.

3. If same problem, leave the changes that you made on Step 2 and attempt to re-install Windows via a Windows 8 recovery drive or OneKey Recovery button (note that this will wipe the computer to factory settings)

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

Hello my friends ! A time ago i bouhgt two Lenovo ideapad 100 14 IBY (FreeDos Version) and install Windows 10 on it with UEFI and GPT Partition Table. All works fine until i want to play around with Linux and install UBUNTU Mate in UEFI on one of them. The install was easy but the Performance on Ubuntu with Bay Trail and the don't working Bluetooth was a reason to switch back to Windows 10. After that the Problem beginns. The Bios don't let me save changes anymore (only time and date !). There was no UEFI ESP and GPT Support since i install UBUNTU and the Bios Menu looks like that:Bios Entries on a blank DiskBootingThe Disk is Blank there is no ubuntu on there (Don't know waht the EFI Entries are no Hardware is connected). And when I boot also go to Network Boot there.(No Matter a USB Stick is connected). So what i did: # I Dismantle it and disconnect Battery and Cell and wait half an hour. # Nothing changes !# I change the HDD. # Nothing changes !# Reflash the BIOS by edit the plattform.ini - CheckByBios=1 - Error Cannot mount EFI Partition. # Nothing changes !# Install Windows 10 - Make mbr2gpt.exe and bcdedit and bootrec. # Nothing changes ! I can install and run Windows 10 in MBR and BIOS Mode on it. But no USB Stick was displayed in Boot Menu. So now Iam on my Limit and the Question is there a way to put UEFI and GPT back on it or does the BIOS locked in this State. For me UEFI is MALEWARE so why can a simple UBUNTU damaged my BIOS and ... Hi. I've got Lenovo G580 (20150) and I'm trying to install the geforce graphics card present in the system. I don't know exactly what the gpu model is but it's something akin to Geforce 610M. I've got Windows 8.1 installed and the drivers from Lenovo support page for this laptop don't work (I tried drivers for Win 8.1/8/7). During installation the drivers installer says that it "couldn't find appropriate hardware". I also tried various drivers from sites like driveridentifier but none worked. My g580 ran out of battery while using it, and now it gets stuck on the lenovo logo. I tried a different hard drive which changed nothing, I've tested both hard drives on a different computer and they both work. However when I boot the laptop with no harddrive it will get past the logo go to a screen saying something about an unplugged cable then reset and get stuck on a blank screen.   If I plug in my windows recovery usb drive( and no harddrive) the the machine will boot normally and go to the windows installation screen. So any ideas on why a working harddrive would stop the system from booting? Also I've tried the whole taking out the battery unplugging it holding down the power key and then plugging it back in thing, did nothing.

Hi Guys,

I recently tried to install Linux Ubuntu but it didin't work well. So I deleted all the partitions and made a clean windows 7 install. Everything works just fine. Before the windows installation there was a weird bootloader starts at first. Here's the picture. After I installed windows I looked at my bios settings and in the boot menu I still had Ubuntu. I used recovery cd and did a console command which is "bootsect /nt60 all". But it is still there. How can I delete this without doing any formatting, reinstalling.

A:My Bios Boot Order Menu Has An Item Called "Ubuntu"

Hello ExpDisease,

are you sure the screenshot is from your BIOS? It looks to me like a bootloader left over from Ubuntu that's running before Windows 7's own bootloader.

You might try the bootsect /nt60 all /mbr command (with the added /mbr option) to actually rewrite the MBR as well, but I'm not sure that'll really do the job.

Just to get a better picture of things, could you also take a snapshot of your (maximized) Disk Management window and post it here?

Hello! I am a happy owner of Lenovo p50, but i got couple of questions. Firstly, Intel Xeon CPU E3-1505M v5 @ 2.80GHz should have a maximum clock speed of 3.7ghz, but thats not the case. The higher i see it goes is ~3.4ghz. I use Piriform Speccy. I tried some CPU stress tests etc, but the result is around 3.4ghz max clock. The Second question is why my bios menu is all greyed and i cannot change any setting. Yesterday i upgraded the BIOS to the latest N1EET60W (1.33 ) and today i tried to visit the BIOS to check some CPU related settings, but i found that almost every setting is locked and i cannot access it. It might be a security mechanism, but before i enter the menu i got promted to scan my fingerprint so i guess that should be it.

A:Lenovo G580 WIFIproblem.

Sounds like a bad or corrupt driver.   Have you tried removing the WiFi card from within Windows Device Manager, checking the box to "Delete driver software for this device", rebooting and then installing the latest driver from Lenovo?

Can you tell me the best drivers for my video cards?I am having issues with my fps. I already contacted the NVIDIA Specialists and nothing happened. They told me to ask you for the best drivers, for both of the video cards. I did nothing to my BIOS or something. Windows 7 64-bit.

Espero ayuda. Gracias. Mauropo
