Preferred Solution: deleted partition

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I essentially decided to use my hard-drive for two different forms of Windows XP 32 and 64-bit. This was some time ago, and it ended up with the 64-bit partition (C:\) as my system partition. The 32-bit partition (E:\) was considered a logical drive, and I used it almost entirely, due to the fact that my CD Key for 64-bit will no longer work, for whatever reason.

Eventually, I decided that I needed the space from the old, unused 64-bit partition, and since both partitions had Windows installed on them, I thought it'd be no problem to just delete 64-bit and merge the remaining space with my 32-bit partition.

Unfortunately, before I got that far, I found out that my 32-bit partition no longer will boot. After reading up on it, I found out about the system partition and all that stuff that I messed up by deleting the 64-bit partition.

I've tried to use the recovery console via boot CD, but when using BootCFG, the /SCAN function doesn't recognize the 32-bit partition. I've verified that the files are still there (installed another partition with windows and checked via explorer), but even with an edited boot.ini, the Windows XP Home Edition 32-bit partition won't boot beyond the blue screen, windows logo after "Welcome".

Is there anyway to salvage and fix the partition? I'd rather avoid losing all the driver installations and registry keys I have on the other partition, and would much rather just make that drive the system partition... Read more

I accidently deleted :

- Drive C partition
- System partition (100mb)
- MBR partition

when i was trying to install fresh windows 7.

now i only have :

- Disk 0 Unallocated Space
- Disk 0 Partition 1: Data (Drive D)

when i try to make new partition in Unallocated Space, it says

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."

Please, can anyone help me to fix this?
And i need my Drive D untouchable. (not to be deleted)

Try to define a primary active partition in the allocated space. Use the bootable CD of Partition Wizard - it is the last box on the website. Burn that .iso to CD and boot with the CD. Here are How To tutorials.

Hello, I've been wanted to reformat my computer for a while now. So today I deleted my OS's partition, but then I came up with an error saying "windows cannot be installed to this disk GPT." I backed up everything on another partition. But now I can't even access it because I have no OS. I can delete the hard drive clean and install a new windows through there, but that would mean losing all of my data. Is there any way I can boot my computer to recover those files? This is on an ASUS n56, laptop.

Thank you for reading!

A:Deleted my OS partition, but have info on another partition..

What is the exact error message? " windows cannot be installed to this disk GPT." doesn't quite describe the exact problem you are having. Kindly post the full error message, we need the specifics.

What version of Windows do you intend to install? Seven | 8 | 8.1 (32-bit | 64-bit).

How did you delete the OS partition (Windows media or other utility?).

Did you perform any other partition operations other than just deleting the partition? For example, converting from GPT to MBR disk or vice versa, creating new partitions, etc?

Before Win7 I had Win XP SP3.
I did clean installation (deleted Program Files partition and C:\) partition, but somehow, my "Programming" partition got deleted as well.
It was 10 GB, and had some VERY important data on it.
When I go to Storage Manager, it's shown as part of C: partition, as you can see on image.

Now, when I try to right click it, this is how menu looks:

And, when I try to change it's drive letters and paths, it pops this error:

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, build 7100 (RC).

Anyone knows how can I solve this problem?

Few notes:
1. I have 2 Hard Drives - 600 and 240 GB.
2. Unallocated space is for my new XP installation.
3. Partition E:\ is for movies, G:\ is for installations and .exe files, D:\ is "Program Files" partition.

Hi Blazeme welcome to the forums,

Have you tried setting the partition as active? You will need to set 'Mark partition as active' in order to allocate it a drive letter.

I put 7100 on a second partition on my p.c. so I could test it out since I have had to revert to 7000 paritition on this machine on all builds after 7022 due to internet loss bug. However I have solved the problem and am now ready to move the second partition over onto the first one, which I have done before with Win7 since it has a hidden partition with its boot manager and so it doesn't rely on C: drive to boot.

Normally I would use Disk Management to delete the first partiition, then use Partition Magic Pro 9 to move the second partition over onto the first one's free space. It has worked several times so far, but the problem is that I am not sure I want to have as a long-term main partition one which is labeled "F." Is this going to be a problem somewhere down the line? I cannot find a way to change the drive letter on a primary system partition like this to letter "C" which is now available. Any suggestions or do I just need to clean install?

A:Moving 2nd partition onto deleted 1st partition?

No problems will occur. You can change the drive letters by accessing Disk Management, right clicking on the "F" partition, and pressing "Change Drive Letter and Paths". If there is no "C" drive present or "C" has not already been assigned, then it should work.

I'm just going to lay the story out from the beginning and build up to my current status of the problem.

I had a working desktop pc with a single hard drive (200GB) that had 2 partitions. I had my main partition that had literally everything on it. And a 2nd partition labeled "hp_recovery."(@ 10gb) In the past I had formatted and reinstalled no problem and for some reason every time I did a new install that recovery would carry over and I know what it's there for but I got tired of losing 10 gigs for nothing since I have my own install cd. So one day I just got impulsive and decided I was going to just delete that recovery partition and merge the empty space into my main partition and just have 1 big one. Well I deleted it using partition magic or a similar program and got rid of it pretty easy, BUT thinking it would just be so smooth after restart my system would not boot and just hanged at a blank black screen after power on. So I tried to fix the MBR and try to get a boot out of my main partition but had no luck. Not wanting to create a new partition out of the 10gig and install xp just to recover my files and burn to cds I decided to try to recover the lost partition and undo all changes I made and just deal with the extra partition on my pc until I could find a better solution.

I looked up software on my other pc and tried many different data recovery programs such as, Partition Table Doctor, Parted Magic, EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Pro. These are ... Read more

Hey guys,

So this is my problem:

I have a 500GB Maxtor Hard disk, and I went to install windows xp, but during the installation i saw that it was split into different partitions. I have no idea why but i deleted one of them. Now i think the entire hard disk is screwed up. When i connected it to my laptop using a SATA docking station, under disk management it gives me my C drive which is disk 0 and it gives me the Maxtor hard disk which is disk 1. But disk 1 is split into 100mb, 60Gb and 405.66 GB with the 405.66 being unallocated. What should i do to make it 1 500GB harddisk.

Pls Helpp!!!

A:Please help with deleted partition

Assuming the disk does not contain an operating system, or any personal data you need, just remove the partitions, so the whole disk is unallocated, then create a simple partition the entire size of the disk e.g. 465GB in size.

If you didn't create the "Recovery Disks" before you deleted the "Recovery Partition" then you may have done away with the only way to recover your PC if ever you have any issues that require you to do a "Factory Recovery"; if it was the "D: Recovery" partition it's probably not big enough to install an OS on, how big is it?

Hello. I have an Acer laptop that had Windows 8 on it. We took the free upgrade to get to Windows 10 and tried it for a few months. Now I decided to try to install Windows 7 on it. I put the disc in the drive and booted. I deleted all partitions except for the data partition that has our movies and music on it. It tells me that Windows can't be installed on this because it is a GPT type. It appears that while the installer is running, when you delete partitions it happens immediately. I thought that it would allow me to cancel because I didn't commit the changes, but I was wrong. I can't format the entire drive because we have important documents on there. What can I do to reinstall Windows 10? We prefer 7, but I have a feeling I need to reinstall 10 first, and then back up the data to an external drive, and then wipe the whole drive to install 7.

Hi, I bought a msi GT627 about a year ago and when it got here, I noticed it had 3 partitions. 1 with windows vista on it. 1 with the OS installed (C and 1 was just a data drive (D

My C: drive only had 50 gb total on it. Yeah it finally filled up. My D: had 250 gb of space on it. I decided I just wanted 2 drives. One with the windows disk on it and the other with the OS which is (C I deleted the entire D: drive and then I extended my c: drive to total around 295 gb.

I reinstalled windows Vista onto the new C: drive and now every time when windows boots up to the desktop. I get a small DOS window ( C:windows/system32/cmd.exe) and then approximately 30 seconds later, windows shuts down. I cannot figure out what to do here. I thought maybe I shouldnt have deleted the D: drive but in my mind it was just a storage drive. I tried to make a new D: just smaller but it didnt fix the problem. If I go into safe mode, it runs fine but I obviously cannot update things because of safe mode limitations. Any help at all would be much appreciated..

Hello tazloccsta and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm guessing you used HP Disk Sanitizer. As you probably know, this is a utility that can securely erase all data from a hard drive.

HP ProtectTools - keep data, networks and communications protected from threats

Ordinarily I'd suggest you try to return your computer to a previous condition by using a restore point from a date/time prior to using Disk Sanitizer. But I'm not at all confident this would work. It would be way too easy for an unauthorized person to gain access to your computer and "undelete" the data you thought had been securely deleted. But you can give it a try.

System Restore

One of the Forum experts has prepared a couple of troubleshooting guides that may help.

Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot

Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

Or you might want to skip directly to a repair install. It will try to fix your currently installed Windows 7 and preserve your user accounts, data, programs, system drivers, etc. It would probably take less than an hour and if it works, you'd just have to reinstall Windows Updates.

Repair Install

You could also use this opportunity to do a clean reinstall and eliminate the HP bloatware and useless factory installed utilities that just slow down a machine.

Try using data recovery software. You will likely need to use "scan" mode, which will read all of the sectors of the HDD (and will take awhile). I've had decent luck with EaseUS.

Yesterday I decided to use the free version of Killdisk to wipe my laptop as I read it helps speed up the machine rather than formating as a format doesn't delete everything.

Problem is, | have now deleted my recovery partition and can't seem to find any info on getting it back.

Also my Windows 7 Serial key has rubbed off the sticker on the back of my laptop so I can't just download Windows 7 and install using that.

I have now installed Windows XP on the laptop, don't know if that is needed info or not.

Hi there.

"Nullo Problemo".

Just boot up your repair disk and go into "Repair System" when you get the start up options.

You'll need either your install disk or a recovery disk. (Both can be booted from a USB).
You'll also need to set your current partition as "Active". Use Gparted or partition wizard from a bootable recovery medium to set this.

(You'll need another bootable drive (CD / DVD / USB etc.) to boot to set this but GPARTED etc. can create bootable media for this sort of stuff).

A partition can not delete it's self only by user error or Partition table problem. A non partition disk space would not have "Free Space" it would be Unallocated Space. Please take a snap shot of Disk Manager and post the screen shot here.

So, I got my new Acer yesterday with Swedish Win8 OEM installed. Not accustomed to Win8 yet I decided to install Win7 instead and booted my Win7 USB (changed to Legacy from UEFI in order to do so). However, little did I know that things have gotten much more complicated! Apperently you can't install Win7 over Win8 with a lot of hassle.

Here's the thing that happened to me:
Not really aware of what I was doing i accidentaly formatted two partitions! Partition 5 containing (what I guess) the drivers and partition 4 containing the system files. After realizing that I can't even install Win7 i exited but now my Windows won't boot!

This is how the partitions look:

It tries to troubleshoot but to no avail. All i get is the option to shut down or go to advanced options where I've tried Refresh and Recover which doesn't work. So I tried downloading an Windows 8 MSDN iso:

File Name: en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.isoLanguages: EnglishSHA1: 1CE53AD5F60419CF04A715CF3233F247E48BEEC4SI knew that it would be a long shot since I'm using Swedish Win 8 but decided to try. This time when I choose to Reset with the bootable win8 Iso I get: "Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing."Is there anything at all that I can do to reinstall the drivers and OS?I promise not to mess with Windows 8 installations anymore after this >_>

I can't refresh or reinstall using Windows or Samsung functions, which I is my own fault as I deleted the recovery partition by mistakenly thinking it was not important.

I have contacted Samsung, they say it's my fault so they won't help. I contacted Microsoft and they said the same. Nobody will provide installation disks. I think these are my options..

1) Use my flatmates Windows 8 laptop to make disks. Its a different brand laptop though, is this a problem? Also, should I use DVDs or CDs? I have my serial number and product code and I don't mind downloading drivers from Samsung.

2)Buy the Windows 8 Pro upgrade for ?50 because I'm a student. But I'm unsure if this will be a full install with all the files I need because it is only an upgrade?

I would like to sort this out sooner rather than later. I need my laptop for coursework. Any advice greatly appreciated.

A:I deleted my recovery partition.... I know now that's bad!

It isn't a bad idea at all....but that's assuming you have made recovery discs. Anytime I buy a laptop, I wipe the drive completely and install the OS myself, but I keep a copy of my restore discs, just in case. Having your only recovery method on the hard drive (which is prone to fail) is never a good idea.

That all being said, do you have any friends who might have a plain vanilla Windows 8 disc? The recovery discs from another laptop, assuming they even boot, typically won't let you repair a system...only reinstall.

A:deleted system partition...

Hello swap2511 and welcome to Seven Forums.

Did you also delete the hidden recovery partition installed at the factory by Sony? If it's still on the hard drive you can restore your computer to factory specs. This recovery guide should be fairly close for your model Vaio computer.

https://www.docs.sony.com/Release/VG...overyguide.pdf

You might also be able to recover the deleted partitions with a free utility called MiniTool Partition Wizard.

How to perform lost partition recovery and deleted partition recovery under Windows? Partition Recovery Help.

Or you might consider doing a clean reinstall of the operating system and removing all factory bloatware. If you need an installation DVD step 1 explains how to get a free, legal copy. You would download and save the ISO file for your version of Windows 7 (perhaps to the desktop) and then burn the ISO file to a blank DVD.

During a re-install of Win 7 I deleted the 100mb system partition. The install didn't rebuild this partition. The computer runs fine but will not do a restart from either the shutdown menu or from a program restart window. Don't know if the two are related but I need to rebuild the system partition. Looking for some instructions.

Thanks for the help.

A:Deleted Win 7 100mb partition

There is tutorial on the forum about removing that 100mb partition and reloading the info that was there in the main partition. Not sure where it's at I will look. Found it not sure about this in general so get some others to chime in with help. HP/Compaq 6910p laptop running on Win XP Home. I'm a rookie and not very computer savvy, but I'll try and give a little history? I know I shouldn't have messed around with this.

I was infected with the Alureon virus according to MSE in boot something or another (I can't remember, and I know I should have wrote it down). But MSE couldn't remove it and I was tired of every time MSE notifying me of the virus right after restart. After reading online about Avast doing boot-time scans I decided uninstall MSE to try Avast, but no luck after several attempts. Then tried malwarebytes, but didn't even find anything. So, I read online in the link below and that's where I really screwed up. I deleted the 2mb partition like it said and then my computer wouldn't boot after restart.

Originally the laptop had Win Vista Business, but went to Win XP Pro, and then Win XP Home. I have the Win XP Upgrade disk I used to do the last install, but it's not working in stall or "R" mode. It says it can't find the hard drive and I also attached a picture. Then I tried my buddy's Dell "Re-installation DVD Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit and says I have 2 partitions. See attached for pictures. I'm not sure what to do at this point? Any help you guys can give me is greatly appreciated. I don... Read more

Your quick response would be greatly appreciated.

So heres the deal. I deleted the Ubuntu 10.04 partition in windows computer management/disk management. Then i shut down the computer, upon booting up i was greeted with an grub error and unable to boot into windows. I used super grub disk, now windows boots up fine now. I'm left with this now, three other partitions and a 218gb of free space. How can i allocate my free space (218gb) to my C: drive? I right click my C: drive but the extend volume is grayed out. Only the Shrink volume is selectable.

I accidentally deleted the D: drive containing my recovery partition. I can't restore to factory settings using the driver recovery dvd because the system no longer detects the cd/dvd drive from the slim expandable base.

How can I recover the deleted partition? Or make the cd/dvd drive respond?

If you have not created anything on the partition or overwritten the partition with any files then you could recover it using a recovery program.
for a free and easy program you can try PC Inspector

Hi!

I accidentaly deleted the existing partition on my seagate expansion 2 TB external HDD. I have used active partition which recognises all my folders and files, and saved the scan results. However I cannot seem to restore it as the drive apperas to have bad sectors.

Also ran spinrite level 2, but nothing has come back, to my surprise.

Any advice? I seem to be missing out on a step somewhere and would not liket to proceed doing anything without advice first.

Thanks in advance.

First I booted from the Windows XP cd because I wanted to format the C drive. I had forgotten I had my external hard drive still plugged in and I accidently deleted the partition for it and created a new one. I didn't FORMAT it, but then when I started up my computer, all the files were gone. So does that mean my files are premanently deleted or can I save the files somehow?

oh yeah, when I try to open the drive, it tells me to format.

Hi-

I accidentally started to install a new version of XP Home on an existing partition that had a good working XP home on it. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?

Thanks

On my laptop I have, in common with many others, a 11 Gb pertition, that could be used to restore the laptop to its original state. It is very unlikely that I would ever want to do so, as I have since installed Vista x64 from a retail copy.

Is it possible to delete this partition and extend C: into that space?

What would be the pitfalls , if any?

A:Manufacturer Partition, can it be deleted?

Hello bgowers,

The only bad effect this would have is that you no longer have the backup.

You can delete it from Disk Management.

I have a hard drive that I keep my software on. I deleted the partition on accident and would like to recover it without having to reformat. I really don't feel like installing all my software again. Would a system restore fix this problem?

No.

You may be able to recover the partition with:

Free:

Free DTIData NTFS Partition Repair Tool

Commercial:

Diskinternals Partition Recovery (Demo)
