Preferred Solution: the pixels on the whole laptop look old school!! How to change?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have Verizon DSL and have 2 computers online through a router. I use Windows 98 SE. I had to totally clean one of the computers hard drives and start over. My problem is that I can't download the DSL software because it requires my monitor resolution to be 850 pixels or more. I go into the monitor settings and the computer will not let me slide the bar over. I tried searching for a better driver and I went online and downloaded the driver for my monitor and the computer will not recognize it. My question is... how do I get the cleaned computer to let me change the pixel resolution from 650 pixels to 850 pixels? Oh yea, I hooked up a different monitor and the same thing is happening with it so I believe the problem is with the Windows 98 SE program. Please help, I need both computers online.

A:I can't Change my Monitor Pixels

You need to install the correct driver for the video card then you will be able to change the resolution and color depth.

If you have a brand name system or you known what video card you have then you can go to manufacturer's website and download the latest driver. If you happen to have the CD you can also use that to install the original driver.

If you do not know what video card you have then you can downlaod Everest and use it to identify the card: http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en&pageid=3

In Everest go to Devices, then Physical Devices, and find the video/display/graphics adaptor/card/device in the device list.

I'm looking for an affordable or free editing software for digital photos. Some of the ones I've downloaded have no tab for me to change the pixels so the picture can be smaller.

Any suggestions????

You mean you want to crop or resize the photo---If thats all you want to do then try Picasa 2---it will allow you to crop to any size you want. If you want something more sophisticated you can go with the Gimp---

Hi guys. Please excuse my utter lack of knowledge. My ex-husband used to diagnose my computer issues; this is my first time flying solo.

My desktop has developed twinkling pixels that occupy solid spaces based on image background. They move with windows if I drag them across the screen. Most of the pixels are green and they vary from background to background as to how fast they twinkle. Some are slow like stars, and some are fast like tv static. On white backgrounds, there are also yellow or pinkish pixels. Screenshots are included for both types of background.

I've read many things: I need a new video card, new cable, new monitor, new power supply.... I have no idea which of these it is. I play WoW casually, but want to have this issue fixed by the time the new expansion is released next month. I would hugely appreciate your help! Please let me know if I can provide more information, though you may have to coach me though how to provide it

I've read here that Windows does not remember folder view settings for removable media once the media has been removed. I see that it does remember to make the file name column 80 pixels wide. Much of the time this is not enough to see the complete file names. I'm guessing this is set somewhere in the registry but have no idea where to find it. I'm reloading an external hard drive from backup dvd's and knowing how to do this could save me just a little bit of time. Thanks for any help, bob.

1. Constantly Changing Folder Views

A source of frustration for most any Vista user is the ever-changing view type for various folders in Windows Explorer. For example you may set your \Users\[username]\Downloads directory to display in Details view, however if you copy a picture, song or video into the directory, the next time you view its contents they may be displaying in Large Icons view. Even if you go back and change the view type, it may reset itself once again the next time you place a different file type in that directory.
It's a genuine issue, and one which doesn't have any logical explanation - fortunately it can be permanently resolved.

Solution
Open the Registry Editor - see the Windows Registry chapter of the TGTC if you don't know how to access, edit or navigate the Registry. Go to the following keys:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
Right-click on the Bags key in the left pane and select Delete, then do the same thing for BagMRU. This will remove most existing customizations for things like window sizes, positions and views. While still in the same place in the Registry Editor, you will need to manually recreate one of these keys with a new setting. Right-click on the fol... Read more

Yeah, I have the same issue on my girlfriends G62. We never dropped it, never exposed it to bad conditions, etc. I contacted support and after 40 minutes they said it was something we did to it and want to charge us to fix it. I told them to blow me. I'm gonna take pictures of it and get them to their support becuase the non-american person I went through troubleshooting with apparently did not understand me when I explained this to him. I'll let you know if this gets me anywhere. They're pretty dumb at support though.

Hi. I have an ASUS g74sx laptop which I bought about 23 days ago. Yesterday I noticed that a whole row of pixels (exactly 1920 pixels) were not working properly. They slowly change color to be close to the color of what's around them, for example if there was a picture of a fire on the screen after about 30 seconds the part of the line that is close to the fire would turn some kind of orange but not exactly the color of the fire. Sometimes it doesn't even change color at all and just stays black on white. I bought the computer in Canada but I am in Russia right now and I can't phone asus because the 1 800 number doesn't work in Russia and the russian hotline isn't working right now for some reason. So I left them a message in the online technical service thing and I am waiting for a reply. However this morning another row of pixels started doing the same thing and a few hours later another one. So now I have three rows of pixels not working propely and I am pretty sure there are going to be more. What I want to ask is can i fix this problem or do I have to send the laptop for repairs? And if I do who can I contact in Russia? Please help me! Thank you!

Hello, i need some help here!
In my laptop display, words are becoming unreadable and the screen is showing pixels everywhere, sometimes these pixels are aligned some times not, i would say they appear randomly, they come and go as i show or hide windows and so on. And suddenly the screen freezes and i can´t make it to work again, or even sometimes it just turns all black.
It should not be a false contact, because these pixels don´t appear more as i move phisically the screen, could it be a bad video card?

Hope someone can help me.

So recently I've started noticing quite a few dead pixels appearing on the left side of my laptop LCD. Though they seem to be the grey kind, not red, and are only really noticable on a white background. Trying to find the cause, and am curious if there is anyway to get rid of or prevent them from speading across the screen. I've had the laptop for about 3 year so far, and use it for gaming quite a bit. I usually need to clean it often because of dust, but never really touch it with bare hands. I have an Acer Aspire V laptop with Windows 8 (64 bit operating system).

When I move my laptop....or even accidentally bump it - it restarts my laptop. I usually use the internet in the incognito window (in Google Chrome or Internet Explorer) - so I loose every page that I had open and have to begin all over again. Everything in regular mode I can access again by clicking on the 'restore session'...but this is obviously an inconvenience.

Also, sometimes my laptop screen will randomly freeze and a checkerboard pattern will appear on the monitor (over top of whatever was on the screen)....along with an annoying buzzing sound some of the time. This forces me to press and hold the power button until the laptop shuts off....and then I have to manually press the power button to turn the laptop back on, and the same process begins, just like when my laptop randomly restarts.

This all happens regardless if I am plugged in or using the battery.

I only use this laptop for surfing the internet and emailing - so I am unsure if the problem would occur when I am not connected to the internet.

I have McAfee Internet Security Suite installed on my laptop. This program stops me from accessing any 'suspicious' websites.....and the restart and/or freeze up doesn't happen when I just open a new website....I will be right in the middle of scrolling the screen or watching a Youtube video.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm clueless when it comes to compu... Read more

A:laptop restarts when moved and checkerboard pixels

I suspect a faulty connection between the cabling to the screen and the system board
That may or indeed may not be the case, but lets start there
Connect an external monitor and test with that by moving or accidentally bumping - although I am unsure as to what this accidental bump is
See if it still occurs
If it does not we can presume that it is the cabling

If you do not have an external monitor the you will have to beg borrow or whatever from friend relative neighbour etc

I have a Toshiba x205 sli1 laptop. If you need, all the specs can be found here: http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/satellite/X205/X205-SLI1, only difference is that i am running Windows 7. Anyway back to the problem. About a few weeks ago i just opened the lid to see that there were red pixels all over the screen, some of the red pixels are flickering. I noticed that the darker of the image being displayed the more red pixels i get, dark blacks are completely replaced with the bright red pixels, and not black but darker places in a image are usually a lighter flickering red. Adjusting color settings in Nvidia control panel, the red pixels will move about the screen depending on where the deepest black is now on the image. I have reinstalled Toshiba's Display Drivers which changed nothing, i even went as far as to clear my whole system and reinstall Windows 7. Still nothing

This has to be a Graphics Card problem right? Because the pixels move about when i change the settings?

I don't want to waste money on replacing the screen if the real problem is the Graphics Card.
First time posting here sorry if i did anything wrong. Please don't hurt me..

Just started College and i desperately need my laptop! How can i fix this?

I'm having a problem with either my video card or drivers.

My monitor shows random pixels all over the screen these are mostly magenta (255,0,255), saturated green (0,255,0), red and black.

The text appears broken up because the color of the pixels make them look incomplete.
If a window is floating, and i grab it and move it over the desktop, pixels stay connected and leave a tray.
Sometimes refreshin the screen removes the pizels...but they appear after some seconds.
Even the cursor has them..and the generic icon for "unknown" archives is missing.
Oh, also, in any graphics editor, the white color (255,255,255) sometimes looks yellow...if i select the area, it turns white again.

Aditionally, there's a loss of video performance during videoplayback, after a while it just stops....the fan makes a lous sounds for a while, and after several seconds, only the audio continues.

Running on:
Laptop, Toshiba satellite.
Videocard nvidia G-force FX Go5200.
512MB Ram.
60GB HDD.
P-Centrino 1.50 GHhz
Running XP-pro SP2.

Any ideas or suggestions?

About two years ago I purchased a Precision M4800 laptop and up until a week ago its LCD monitor has been fine.  However, since then a small cluster of darkened pixels has appeared at the center of the screen.  They are however, neither dead nor stuck pixels, as they change color depending on the background, appearing grey against white, dark blue against blue etc.  Just to be certain i ran monitor test, sure enough the discoloration remained with each solid color background, appearing as a darkened pixelated smudge.  To be clear this is not a scratch or stain, as when i look at the cluster close up i can clearly see tiny darkened squares.  Also the discoloration is not uniform, some pixels are much darker than others, but all change color depending on the background.  Does anyone have idea what this is?

I have already taken it to a computer shop but they were no help at all.  How can I fix this?

A:Alienware Laptop has vertical flickering pixels across the screen

Hi PEEWEEDAPLUMBER,
What is the exact system model? Is the distorted screen persistent or random. Does the system overheat? When do you encounter the screen distortion?
Connect an external monitor and check if it works fine.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS and check if the distortion is seen there as well.
If the system is under warranty, write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details. If there is no warranty, then we can help with a paid service call if required.
Keep us updated.

Hello,

My computer in school (desktop) has a Windows Experience Index of 3.3 but it seems to perform better than my 4.4 WEI laptop. Maybe WEI is not a reliable measure of how fast the computer is but just to give you an idea. I don't know the exact specs of my school pc but i think it has almost the same specs as my laptop in terms of ram and clock speed. Here are my laptop specs:

Available OS Memory: 1878MB RAM
Page File: 3348MB used, 1230MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 11

Anyway, my laptop freezes a lot of times, especially when I haven't turned it off for a long time. This just doesn't happen with my school pc even if it's on 24/7. I was the one who installed windows 7 on both computers so they have almost the same programs installed (except maybe Connectify app in my laptop).

Now i'm wondering if I can still make my laptop perform faster or should I just buy a new one? My CPU usage meter indicates 87% of my ram is used. this is usually the case when i'm working. Do you think this will get faster if I upgrade the ram? i ... Read more

A:My 3.3 WEI computer in school is better than my 4.4 WEI laptop. why?

Do you think this will get faster if I upgrade the ram?Hello and Welcome -Most updated Windows7 computers will run about 4G RAM, rather than your current installed 2G RAM, so it would not hurt to upgrade this -If These TravelMate P243 Specs are the same / similar to yours, it includes Memory "Base RAM size 4 GB" -Part of Acer's business lineup, the TravelMate P243 features an Intel Ivy Bridge processor, 8GB of RAM, an HD webcam, and a 14-inch 1366 x 768 display. Availability date: Aug. 14, 2012 Also This Review says "Basic RAM is 4G" - So I would look at 4Gig as a standard setup.my laptop freezes a lot of times, especially when I haven't turned it off for a long time. << I would turn the computer off at least at the end of the day and save your work Personally only, I turn my laptop off every day (night) as it may be 2 or 3 days between using it, and I like to start fresh each time - Your choice there -Desktops and laptops are a bit different with shutdown times etc, but I still believe in turning them off when totally finished, and it only takes about 1 or 2 minutes to restart them for each session - Try this for a while, and clean out unwanted programs on a regular basis also -Regards -

I'm thinking of getting a Laptop for school, but since Ive only ever brought/built desktops before, I'm not really sure what laptop would be best, only what I want from it and can afford...

-I can spend around £500.
-Needs to be powerful enough to run Visual Studio 2008 without any problems (VS08 is probs the most demanding app I'll use at school)
-At least Dx9 with pixel shader 3. Dx10 would be nice if possible
-If possible without spending too much I wouldn't mind being able to play games at decent settings (eg HL2:Episode 2) without lag

Ive had a look around but couldn't realy find anything useful to tell me if a laptop is capable of what I want or not...this looks like it may be more than capable, but I'm not really sure if thats the case, nor if it's actauly a good deal for £499...

Hello. There is not much we can do to help you here on the Laptop Audio discussion board. I suggest that you go to Dell_Robert P's profile page and send him a message. (Click on the link which should take you to his page. Then send him a message if you see "send a private message" link on the right side of the page. If not, then click the Add as Friend link and include your message.)
Robert P is the chief forum moderator, and will probably try to help you, although there may be a limit on what a moderator can do. You should include more concrete details about what happened than you put in your post here. It explains what happened but is a bit sketchy. Also include your laptop's service tag number, so he can look it up.

This shot shows a problem that's just started to corrupt the desktop screen display on my laptop.

This event has happened twice over the past couple of days. I have no idea what causes the problem except that on each time where it corrupted the desktop screen, I had just closed an open internet page to return to my desktop.

I'm not sure if it's a technical issue with the laptop screen, or perhaps something failing in my display or graphics card.

A:Laptop screen problem - corrupted graphics/display/pixels??

That is strange. Have you tried a different Wallpaper to see if they are on it also? Is it only on the Desktop or on other pages too?

I'm going to buy a laptop for school use in college, but I'm not sure how to choose the right laptop, I know that the minimum amount of RAM should be at least 2GB and I also heard that i3, i5, i7's are good to use too. My friend also told me that Lenovo is a very good and trusted brand for laptops but what else should I look for? What other brands/manufactures for laptop are trustworthy? main question is what to look for so that it isn't going to be 'OUT' in a few years. Thanks a lot!

So lets say I know that security is a joke in a way. I have a basic firewall. I have a router (with built in firewall) I have anti virus.

But... it slows my computer down so .... if I want to keep my computer safe when downloading files, browsing websites, this is a laptop so it will be going places at some point.

What do you rec. website or downloads for basic security? Is

Microsoft security essentials, windows firewall, and malware enough? In cunjunction with a router at home with a firewall?

I read about sand boxing and I do have avast (but I disabled it for speed issues) so what about running commando and so forth. I mean... it seems silly to install a ton of programs if it makes it so I can't even use the internet. Also is crome a safe browser or should I be using Firefox?

My fear is simply a virus that messes up my computer, someone getting into my email account and sending virus's out.. that kind stuff...

:P hehe just curious if there is a good website to read up on this stuff for.

If what I got will keep me safe from bios passwords and highjacking software im cool. I don't got anything worth stealing I don't order online or anything... so any info be great. (computer will be used for school soon though) don't want people messing with it for sure.... but at the same time important It doesn't get bogged down

A:so what if im parnoid? Keep my laptop safe at school

Heres my answer..

If you are not really sure if the a website is infected or not go here http://www.virustotal.com/ Using this website, you can check and verify if the website that you are trying to visit has a malware, rootkit, trojans, adware and spywares.

For some reason you need to delete your prefetch and temp files so that it will not cosume your computers memory (Performance problems.)

Click start, type on the start search or run "%temp%" without the quotation mark
Select all then hit delete. Noticed that some you can't delete all of them. Its fine. Just press skip.

Click start, type on the start search run. then on run type "prefetch" without the quotation mark
Select all then hit delete.

Hey guys.

I want to get a laptop to use for school projects (like slideshows and videos), gaming (H2V, CS:S) and surfing the web (do people still say that?) and I'd like to hear from someone who knows more about it than me about how mush it would cost.

Here's an extensive list of what I'd like it to have:
- Windows Vista Home Premium (there's $300 already)
- At least a 3Ghz CPU
- Mid- to high-end graphics card (GeForce 8600 maybe)
- A good sound card (nothing fancy)
- At least a 120-160GB hard drive, reasonably fast (say 7200 RPM, is that fast?)
- At least 4GB of RAM
- A relatively small screen size (18-21") so I don't have to be carrying around a huge bag
- Decent networking capabilities (good enough to download stuff, play games online and use my school's wireless)

I hope I didn't miss anything. I don't know much about laptops so any advice or insight is helpful.

On Apple's website there's a thing where you can play with upgrades and a few other settings to customize your computer, and it tells you how much it would cost. But Macs are lousy for gaming so I tried to find a thing like that for PC laptops but had no luck.

Thanks!

A:How much can I expect to pay for a laptop for school and games?

Dude, how much are you planning on spending? Those are some pretty heavy specs for a lappy. I really don't think you need quite that specs for basic gaming (though definitely get someone else's opinion, I only know from what I've looked at and such). but try Dell, they've got some pretty good deals. however, if you really do want even higher specs, you might wanna try something like Alienware.
Again, I'm no expert, but for a lappy those are some pretty high end specs.

Oh yeah, lol. BTW, if I understood you right...you're talking 4-5 grand.

A:Kid needs a computer for school... should I go with a laptop or desktop?

Given a choice, I vote desktop

1) You usually need pay more for laptops
2) Laptops will also need to endure more wear and tear as they're mobile and will be probably be dropped or slip out of hand some time and ya need worry more about damages
3) And importantly, i think it's easier to keep an eye on what kid's are doing on a computer when it's a desktop!

Haven't posted in a while. Well college is coming around and i NEED a laptop, I'll use it for notes, papers, projects, and homework, but that's not what I'm worried about

I'm very OCD about what I buy. I have around 1200-1500 to spend, and i want the best bang for my buck. I want a gaming laptop, that's at least somewhat solid, what am I looking at with that price range?

A:buying laptop for school/gaming help?

You're going to need more money for a good gaming laptop.

Ok I did a little searching and I found a list of mobile video devices.

Nvidia GeForce Go7600
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600
ATI Mobility Radeon X1700
Nvidia GeForce 8400M-GT
Nvidia GeForce Go7700
Nvidia GeForce Go7600GT
Nvidia GeForce 8600M-GS
Nvidia GeForce 8600M-GT
Nvidia GeForce Go7800
ATI Mobility Radeon X1800
Nvidia GeForce 8700M-GT
Nvidia GeForce Go7900GS
ATI Mobility Radeon X1900
Nvidia GeForce Go7800GTX
ATI Mobility Radeon X1800XT
Nvidia GeForce Go7900GTX
Nvidia GeForce Go7950GTX

Look for a laptop that you can afford with at least one of the above, 2GB of memory for Windows Vista and the mobility processor of your choice. The farther you go down the list the faster and more expensive the video will be. All the recognized brand names I saw where $2000.00 and up.

I am trying to install Windows 7 on my laptop because it was nearly crashed so I decided to reinstall it. When I press "Install now" and finish editing my HDD settings so Windows is going to install it finish the "Copying Windows files" step and it just stucks at 0% at "Expanding Windows files"

I have tried with Windows XP aswell and it does not work. I have taken out the HDD and deleted everything on it from my other computer but it seems to still not work so I guess it is the BIOS settings.

I have full access to the BIOS but I have no idea what to do...

Any ideas?

Hi, so I'm in the process of purchasing a laptop for University and was hoping someone could help me out with a couple questions I have.

1) How does the AMD Turion? 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56 (1.8GHz/1MB), perform against the Mobile AMD Sempron? Processor 3500+? Would both perform well for a school laptop?

2) How much better is the ATI RADEON® Xpress1270 HyperMemory? than the ATI RADEON® Xpress1150 with 256MB HyperMemory? Would both be good enough for basic office and internet use?

3) Is the AMD Turion? 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56 (1.8GHz/1MB) with the ATI RADEON® Xpress1270 HyperMemory? worth about 150$ more than the Mobile AMD Sempron? Processor 3500+ and ATI RADEON® Xpress1150 with 256MB HyperMemory? Should I not bother with the upgrade for 150$?

Thanks in advance for helping me out. Most of this stuff goes right over my head!

Rina

A:HELP! Having Trouble Deciding on a Laptop for School

1. A sempron is a much older (single core chip). The turion is far better.

2. Any laptop is capable of graphics for basic office and internet use. Even cheap ones.

3. yes. Ensure you maximize the RAM on any laptop you buy. It would also be wise to buy a faster rpm hard drive.

4. Please post in the correct forum next time. (mobile computing)

My laptop has XP Home, and when the computer guy when to put in the networks domain, he said there was no place to put in the domain only a work"group" which wouldn't work.

How do I go about getting it to work? He said there is a network card so it should be able to work, but he's not sure how to do it.

Is it even possible with the Home edition or do I need the Professional edition?
If it's possible what do we do?

Thanks

Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3521 Laptop.
Firstly, I have detected a problem with the display, some pixels on the monitor were not loaded successfully. The number of those pixels has significantly increased over the time and, further, the laptop has begun to start at a second try, the first try involving a beep at power on, thus avoiding the initialization of the system.
At the moment, when trying to power on the laptop, it starts with a single beep which suggests me that it is a "Motherboard: BIOS ROM Failure" fault. However, I don't know how I could proceed in detecting the problem(s) and getting the laptop firstly to boot correctly and secondly to avoid the failure of loading the pixels. Furthermore, do you think that those problems are somehow related?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Roxana Stan

A:Dell Inspiron 3521 Laptop does not boot (1 beep) & Dead pixels

Unplug the system, remove the battery (or unplug it if it's internal) and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove the base cover and both memory modules and reinstall them.
If that clears the single beep issue, hold the D key through powerup, which will start an LCD built in self test.  If the screen then shows solid colors OK, it's fine.
If it does not - or the single-beep issue isn't cleared -- the first step is a big one: the mainboard needs to be replaced.  You're looking at about $300 or more with labor - and on a low-end system like this one, you may find it better to replace rather than repair a major fault such as a bad mainboard.

So basically got my school laptop yesterady, the internet worked fine at school but when I came home it wouldn't work. When I came to school again today it worked, when I came home again it wouldn't.

The internet connection showed that it was connected () but I don't got internet acess. Some restarts I have internet (pretty slow) just on the beginning, sometimes pages just loads forever or very long without connecting and sometimes it just loads a little bit and says network error.

I've been working with trying to fix it all day yesterday and like one hour today, and now I just want to get it done so I came here to make a thread. My network is fine with the computers/telephones in my house so it's not the router.

I've tried to use the windows network error checking tool, it just says that the strandard gateway isn't available (which is not getting automatically resolved) and it identifies a problem aswell that the connection between the router and internet has disconnected.

I have tried to...

* Restarted
* Changing battery network card settings to high priority
* Disconnecting, reconnecting
* Re-typing wifi password
* Deactivating ipv6
* Using a DNS
* Few CMD commands
* Changing an option called "dulex/rulex someting" or something that tells how much mb/s you should receive (or something like that) from router to automatically detect to 100mb/s, didn't make any difference either

A:New laptop, can't connect to wifi at home but can at school

This is quite simple - The School is using a proxy within Internet Explorer. You must have admin rights for this to work.

On Internet Explorer, - Tools - Internet Options - Connections - LAN Settings - Untick the bottom box (Proxy)

Close and re-open IE, everything should be working.

Make sure you make a note as you will need to re-tick the box when you're next at school.

I am looking at this as a laptop for a grade school student who wants to do homework, surfing, and play flash online games. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-n22-11-6-laptop-intel-celeron-4gb-memory-32gb-solid-state-drive-b... Being very pleasantly surprised by how much I like the laptop in my sig, I'm shopping just for Lenovo. This one I linked to seems rather cheap (in terms of price) to me. I realize a celeron is not the fastest chip around, but it has an SSD. Is this an incredibly good deal for what I'm getting? Or is that just the going rate---not like I have to snap it up now? Should I be leery of these smaller (its actually a tad lighter than the Macbook air) laptops, or the N22 series in general? EDIT: OK just realized its not an SSD---its flash memory. Never bought a laptop with that. Is this a red flag?

Good evening Tech Support Guy forums. Here is one for you. I am using a laptopt that is used at a school. The owner (member of staff) can connect to the schools wireless internet but not the one here at home. The computer is running XP Pro and I'm a Linux guy so I'm stumped.

Bascially the wireless card picks up the router, connects and tells me the signal strength is great and all is well. That is not the case. When trying to get anywhere on the net I get the old could not find server page. I have taken an ethernet cable out of the back of one of the other machines and plugged it into the laptop. I need to tell it to not use proxy at all and to automatically detect settings. That is fine but the owner needs the wireless. Like I said the card works fine at the school. Here it won't. I told it to not look for hte proxy and get the settings automatically. We have other machines that connect to the router wirelessly and the router itself assigns the laptop an IP.

Can anyone help me fix this and get it all sorted?

The card is D-Link Airplus DWL-G650+ and the router is a Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless G router.

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

Ironfist
