Error Message When Loading Student Text E-book

Q: Error Message When Loading Student Text E-book

I'm running XP & trying to use a student e-book my son just brought home from school - Grade 12 Physics (groan!). Also have Adobe 7 reader in use.

When I try to open CD, the following error message comes up: 16 bit windows subsystem. c:\windows\system 32\autoexec.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS DOS & MS WIndows applications. Choose close to terminate the application.

The info on the CD indicates it requires a minimum of Windows 95 & Adobe 4 reader. I'm using XP & Adobe 7. Some info will open but not all the text is available.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have been having issues with my Office products.

I previously had loaded Home & Student successfully some time ago, and was using a trial version of Publisher from the 'net, but the other day these items all came up with error 1317 and 2330 and wouldn't let me use them properly. The fixes I found online didn't seem to work as there's nothing in my folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared.

I tried uninstalling Home & Student, which said it hadn't worked, but then it was gone. I tried uninstalling the trial of Publisher, which wouldn't work either, and it wasn't gone, so I followed some long and complicated steps from Microsoft to uninstall and it seemed to work.

Then I ran a full sysytem scan (Registry Mechanic) which fixed all but two errors (it said) in Add/Remove programs. Everything else seesm to be running fine, as far as I can see, and no other scans report problems anywhere (Norton & Spybot).

This morning I tried to reinstall Home & Student (at this point I don't care about Publisher as it looked to be where the problem lay). But no go, it still comes up with the same errors, and there's still nothing in the above folder.

The full message I get is this:

Error 1317: Setup cannot create the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VBA. Verify that the path exists in your system and that you have sufficient permissions to update it. Error 2330: Setup cannot get attributes for C:\Program Files\Common ... Read more

So for some reason my Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 quit working on my Windows Vista laptop. So i go into the Control Panel to uninstall it, but it just kept saying that "Uninstallation could not be successfully completed." So I just stuck the disc in the cd tray, to try to just reinstall it, but once I allow it to run, it goes for about 5 seconds, then a message pops up saying "Setup has stopped working." and then it closes.

please help me fix this problem. i need this software for college. and I can't seem to get anything to work.

A few days ago, my Outlook Express started sending me error messages that read, "Address Book failed to load. Outlook Express is incorrectly configured, please re-install."

So I did some research, and came across three possibilities as to how to fix this problem.

#1. From Microsoft Support (who couldn't possibly have made this any more difficult and confusing, talking about a security update that has to be uninstalled which I never installed in the first place but must be an automatic update, yes?? Yikes, scary stuff for a barely computer literate old gal!), and,
#2. Fred Langa's letter, from InformationWeek, about rebuilding/refreshing/reinstalling XP, and
#3. From the Help and Support resource on Windows XP Home Edition in the Start menu.

And here's where it gets confusing for me.

#1. Microsoft Support talks about uninstalling software updates, something about "patches" which sounds dangerous to me because who knows what else can be uninstalled along with those patches ... plus, I can't find the wab file in the C drive where they say it's supposed to be located ...

#2. The Help and Support resource in my Start menu, which is a completely different set of instructions altogether than #1 and #3 and seems quite straightforward, not mentioning anything about uninstalling software updates, but simply offering instructions on the procedure to rename and replace the wab32.dll file.

So which is the right way to do this? It seems th... Read more

Every time I start up my computer and select Windows 7 in the grub menu, it crashes to a blue screen with error text. The screen looks like this:

I have run Startup Repair many times and every time it doesn't work. I have also tried running System restore when Startup repair fails, but it gets stuck extracting a DLL.

I have Ubuntu Studio on a Live USB, Is there anything I can do to fix it from it?

I also have another computer with a bootable hard drive we could take out and boot into then try restore the backup from there.

Hello there!

I'm currently running Vista on my Compaq laptop. Unfortunately (long story) my key for Avast Antivirus expired in January 09 and I was unable to input the key code until September 09, so I guess the virus found it's way onto my computer during that time.
I ran a scan after finaly inputting the key and Avast found several infected items. Some could be removed, but since that scan I've been getting the following message after starting-up the laptop:-

Error loading C:/Windows/TEMP/msxm192z.dll

Also, since the initial scan and appearance of this error message I've been having various problems -
* Laptop running slow
* Media player not running (won't open/run) - cannot play any music!
* Photo Gallery icon blank and won't open - cannot access my photos!

I've since uninstalled Avast and installed a free version of AVG. Neither seem to be able to get rid of this virus.

I also followed the advice given to another member of this forum. I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
This is the MBAM report from the scan (which picked up several infected items):-

Hey guys,
I've been told that it is possible to edit the text of Windows error messages but I've run into some difficulty in trying to do so. I am fairly good at using Resource Hacker and I figured that if I could just find the system file that stores the error messages that I would be able to proceed in editing their text.

So my questions are...
Is it possible to use Resource Hacker to edit Windows error messages?
If so, what is the system file I need to target?
And Finally, If this is not possible with Resource Hacker then how would I go about doing it?

Just to clarify my reason for doing this in case it might help you guys to solve my problem..
My wife drives me crazy every time an error message comes up while she's on the computer. I just want to give her a "message of warmth" each time one comes up and help her solve the problem she has encountered. I also just think it would be a pretty cool thing to learn in case I ever need to help someone in the future.

Thanks so much for the help, it's greatly appreciated.

A:Editing Windows error message text

Not sure which error messages your wife is getting.
But I believe most of these messages are in Explorer.exe (The main Windows File)

Your resource edit program should be able to view/edit (make a backup - only because it loads Windows !)

I am using Windows 98 and AOL 6.0. Everything was working fine until one day I tried to load AOL, but I got an error message that said something like "could not load a file. AOL will attempt to restore the file." I was able to connect and use AOL, but when I got online I had a few problems. First, all of my favorites were gone in the favorites folder. I can no longer add favorites to the folder. Also, I couldn't use my download manager. Finally, when I click on "filing cabinet" in the mailbox window, I get a WAOL error.

I have no idea which file AOL was trying to restore. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Hello spontaneous, Welcome to TSF!

This file is very strange indeed, which leads me to believe that you may have a spyware/malware infection on your computer.

Please read this article? "Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? - First Steps"; follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum.
(Simply, click on the coloured links to be re-directed.)

Please ensure that you create a new thread in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum; not back here in this one.

When carrying out The 5 Steps, if you cannot complete any of them for whatever reason, just continue on with the next one until they are all completed.
However,it is extremely important to make mention of the fact that you could not complete any of the steps in your post to The HJT Help Forum; where an Analyst will assist you with other workarounds.

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

Good Luck with it.

Hi There and to BC! I have read your post and I think it would be wise for you to post a HijackThis log for an expert to review. I bet you are wondering what HijackThis is. Well it's a program that is simply able to show others what's going on inside your computer, in terms of infection etc.. This file 0wso0fis.dll is malware, but the fact that you are getting a missing error could mean it is gone; however we made need to delete the startup entry I recommend you follow the HijackThis preparation guide which can be found here. It is important that you follow the guide closely. I recently purchased the WD6400AAKS SATA hard drive for my Compaq S5000NX system running Windows XP Pro, because Windows would give me messages saying "Error Loading OS" or "Operating System Not Found" when I booted up. I figured the hard drive was on its way out so buying a new one would fix my OS Error problem. Although that system supports IDE hard drives rather than SATA, I got a very good deal on the drive and couldn't pass it up. I found a SATA to IDE converter that attaches directly to the back of the drive and it works fine. Before I purchased this drive, I was running 3 hard drives total, a 40 Gig Western Digital as my main boot drive, a 160 Gig Western Digital and a 120 Gig Segate, both as slave drives, with a Sony DVD Burner. My problem starts here. When I boot up my system on just my 120 Gig Segate Drive with Windows on it, everything works fine. I can access the BIO's and it shows that the drive is present, etc. I then reboot my system and attach my newly purchased 640 Gig Western Digital drive as a slave to my 120 Gig Segate Drive running Windows, as well as my 160 Gig and my DVD-ROM. All have the correct master/slave settings. Everything works perfect when I boot up, I can access files, move them anywhere, etc. As soon as I restart the computer, or shut it down, it gives me an error saying "Error Loading OS" on my next boot. I hit ctr-alt-del to restart, and get the same message, over and over. If I unplug those 3 IDE dri... Read more

For a while I have been getting an error message on loading XP
In a box titled WLanCfgG I get a message: Load library Intersil.dll fail!
When I click OK XP it disapears and everything seems to work well.
This message started after I was trying two different USB network adaptors.

After a Windows update some time later I began to get the following two messages:
In a box titled WZCSLDR2.exe-Entry point not found there is the message:
The procedure entry point apsInitialize could not be found in the dynamic link libraary wlanapi.dll
In a box titledd AirGCFG.exe-Entry point not found is the message:
The procedure entry point apsSearchInterface could not be located in the dynamic link library wlanapi.dll

After I click on the OK button for both of these messages, the messages disappear and XP runs fine.

The only problem I seem to have is that I cannot restore my computer to a previous restore point.

A:Error message loading XP

Both of those files appear to be associated with NIC drivers. Ensure you have a copy of your network card drivers available on your HDD or CD, then uninstall all references to the NIC drivers you installed or any listed in Add and Remove Programs. Then reboot, and reinstall only the drivers for the card you have installed.

Good day all,

This is my first post from a new UK user.

I am running Windows XP Pro and have been troubled by NAIL.EXE. I think I have successfully removed it to quarantine using EWIDO. Now on starting Windows I am presented with an error message "Windows cannot find 'C:WINDOWSNAIL.EXE'. Make sure you have typed the name correctly ...(etc)".

Now this is not nearly as problematic as the NAIL.EXE effect but it is an irritation. Can you advise what I need to do to stop the call to NAIL.EXE.

Your assistance will be appreciated.

A:Windows XP error message on loading

NAIL.EXE and AURORA.EXE are recent and nefarious spyware from Direct Revenue, Inc. Arm yourself with another anti-malware application like Adaware or Spybot Search and Destroy and feel better!

EDIT: whoops, it appears you're over the virus and just have a residual message regarding it.

First things first; see if it is in your 'Startup' folder. Start > Programs > Startup... look for the call to it there.

Failing that, see if it stands out from among the programs listed under Start > Run > msconfig (typed in the Run box, then click 'Ok'). Msconfig has a tab for services launched at startup... you should find the offender by the path it's calling if not by name.

EDIT2: In fact, you may want to repost your issue in the HJT (hijack this) log forum; they will know better than I (at least off the top of my head) how best to permenantly remove that annoying call to NAIL.EXE.

Can anyone tell me what this error message means?
started getting this error message;

RUNDLL Error loading

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

I am using Mozilla firefox as a browser, another family member uses Explorer for MSN instant messaging.

I am guessing it is related to running into serious problems with Virtumonde.

I have run Ad/aware and Spybot. They both keep removing it but it keeps showing up along with a lot of I suspect related spyware.

I've run McAfee Anti-Virus and it showed nothing. I ran Windows Defender and it showed nothing.

Ran Vundofix and it showed it removed it all but then when I re-ran it is was back there.

Also ran Virtumundobe gone in safe mode and it showed nothing but then there error message started appearing...I re-ran Spy-Bot and it is still showing Virtumunde on the system.

Any help would be much appreciated. I posted a hijack this log on the appropriate forum.

I recently have gotten this error loading message on booting--C:\Users\iamspiga\App Data\Local\avopidit.dll
The specified module couldn't be found.
FYI--I did download something from one of my survey groups--Galcela.msi pop-hannover.net.
I did delete it from the system when I saw that there was a non-removal Trojan involved.
Do I need to run MSconfig and remove what ever is left?
Appreciate your help.

I am doing a clean install of XP Pro on a Dell Dimension 8200 PC. The drive has been formatted and I am using the XP Pro setup disk. About halfway through setup I get an error message that says "setupreg.hiv cannot be loaded. error message 4111."

The setup disks were downloaded from Microsoft. I've tried booting from the XP CD (OEM version), but can't seem to get it to work. I have changed my boot sequence to boot from CD, but no go, so back to using the setup disks.

I have searched the net for days and have found nothing. Anyone here know anything about this? Also, should I be using a XP bootdisk instead of the startup disks?

A:Error message loading setupreg.hiv on XP Pro set up

Does your bios recognize your CD-ROM?

I am assuming it is set as slave, should be listed in first setup (bios)screen.
Is this the Boot Disk you are using?
