Q: Calculating on fields extracted from database in OpenOffice

In an OpenOffice (version 3) text document it is possible to insert a table containing merge fields that are populated from a relational database.

It is also possible to perform calculations on cells, as in a spreadsheet. That is, a formula editor allows a cell to contain a formula that will display the result of a calculation on two other cells of the table.

This works perfectly with hard-coded data in the cells but I have been unable to find a way to perform calculations on cells containing merge fields representing data from an external source. All attempts to do so have produced an "Expression is faulty" message with no further hint. I have been unable to find anything relating to this in the somewhat chaotic OpenOffice documentation.

The aim is to convert a spreadsheet-based invoicing system to run from a relational database, thus eliminating duplicated data such as company names and addresses, and making integration with other documents using some of the same data easier and more efficient.

Can anyone help, please?

it may be the imported data from the data base is TEXT rather than a number to calc
in excel you can use =value() to convert a number thats formated as text into a number

I just tested in OpenOffice Calc and it has the same issue

format a cell as TEXT put a number in and it is right justified and will not calc
use =value() to convert to a number
now you can calc

Please help. I am trying to calculate a percentage of my yes's. I have several yes/no fields in which I'll need to calculate a rate. I would prefer to create a report that will calculate this for me. However, right now, I am really just looking for the easiest/quickest way to do this. So if I need to run a query first and base the report off the query, I'll do it. Please help ASAP if you can.

Hello, I'm trying to figure out a way to calculate time fields in a database, I would like to know how to add time fields from two text boxes so that the amount of hours will display in a Total Hours text box. I am using two text boxes, Start Time and End Time, Total Hours is where the total will be displayed in amount of hours from the two time fields, an example would be 8:00 AM (in Start Time) and 10:30 AM (in End Time) and 2.5 being in Total Hours. On a form, when typed in the Control Source property for Total Time, =DateDiff("h",[Start Time],[End Time]) seems to work, but it is not inputting the sum in the main table where all of the fields are kept, is there any way the total can be done and kept in the main table? Also, I would like to include a Total Hours text box with the totals of the Total Time fields because I would like to add more text boxes on a form. Can somebody help?

That's the only place you can do it is in a report or query. I don't think you can calculate directly in the same table for fields within that table. Try creating another table and calculate the date fields within that table. Is there a reason this time difference needs to be stored in a table?

Hello.

I am trying to create a contract template for our lawn care business. There are 22 different services that our customers can choose to add, each with a price specific to their own property. At the bottom of the service and pricing list there is a "sub-total" line, with a "5% discount" line underneath, and under that the "total" line.

Like so:

weekly lawn maintenance $35.00 Is there a way to "make" these numbers add up, and
Shrub trimming $150.00 appear in the areas below? So that we don't have to
Fertilization $35.00 manually do all of the calculations, thereby saving

Also, on the contract we have payment options for our customers. Another big time consumer has been manually calculating these options.

Like so:

$209.00 payable at a flat rate over 9 months (March through November) = $23.22/month
If I can get the "total" number from above to automatically calculate and "jump" to the figures in red above, that would be simply wonderful.

I know that in excel the calculations can be done by creating a spreadsheet (although I do not know how to make a spreadsheet), but I this contract is a legal document and needs to appear so. I'm hoping that Word has a way to do this as well.

After working with Access and SQL, I thought I'd try my hand at OpenOffice 3.1's "Base" program. Things went well creating tables and forms. What I was trying was to create a list of books I have in a library, including "Author", "Copyright Date", "Publisher", and "Price" (in case we should decide to sell them at any of our yard sales).

Here's my problem:

If I have more than one book from, say, John Grisham, I have a problem with entering the second book because the program spits an error regarding unique values in the "AuthorID" field. I know that this field, "Price" and the one for "CopyrightDate" will create duplicate values, and this error will get in the way.

Having seen this in Access and SQL, I know that I can change the properties of the field to allow duplicate entries, but I have no idea where to do that in Base. The Help function is no help to me.

It's probably a simple question to answer, but I need help, this time.

i am creating a database app. i would like to create a dropdown list of all the available fields in a particular table for the use of filtering data (adoObject.recordset.filter). i know that i want to fill the dropdown list in the form load event but i'm not sure how to get or retreive the available fields to fill the list. i have been able to fill lists with info from any one field, but i would also like to fill a list with all the available fields as well. anyone have any suggestions for a beginner such as myself???

I'm having troubles with getting a total sum from multiple subreports. I'm getting #name? and I believe
this is because Access is confused as to what to total, could be from using the same names for fields?
I have checked and I don't see that I have used the same names, but I'm not an expert with Access.

Attaching a sample database with by reports. Report1, the field I'm totaling on is CompAmatcost, in Report2, the field is CompAnonmaterial. Report3 is the main report where the totals are being calculated. The data criteria for both reports comes from the costing sheet form and the queries that
manipulate the data are encloed in the test database.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone. before we start: I am total newbie to Access (used few times, exited).
Situation: i am trying to analyze data that has too many fields for Excel. Like - 10 right now and it could be NOT enough. Entering data may bring errors. And sometimes I require field connections.
My thought was (unrealistic?) to create a MS Access database with many fields. An abstract of fields:
1. Numbers, entered manually.
2. Numbers, drop list + choice of "x" (no data)
3. Letters, drop list with "x"
4. Letters, drop list with "x"
5. text, entered manually
6. text, entered manually. An option to leave unfilled.
7. text, entered manually
8. text, entered manually
9. text, entered manually
10. text, entered manually
11. text, entyered manually
12. text, entered manually
13.text, entered manually
14. text, entered manually
15. Complicated field. It checks field 5 versus fields 7, 9, 11 and 13.
If field 5 corresponds with, say, field 7 and 9 - database automartically marks with, say, A
If field 5 corresponds with, say, field 11 and 13 - marks as B
If nothing, itchecks field 2 versus values entered into database (let us say, 200 positions)., if corresponds - marks with C
If still nothing - marks X
16. Check or uncheck. Only one choice. Like - "Is this product forgery?" if yes, user must check, if no - just leave unchecked.

Question:is it possible to create such thing by myself or I should hire some programmer?

I've got a form in access and all I want to do is make a "total" box that adds 5 fields with numbers (not all those fields may be populated at the same time). So if the first field has a value and the second does not, my total field is blank. If both those fields are populated, it adds. What am I doing wrong? My syntax thru the expression builder is =[1st Account Balance]+[2nd Account Balance]

In DOS-based Alpha 4, a database I've been using for years, text fields were limited to about 250 characters, but a memo field, stored separately from the rest of the record, if I understood this, was possible with far more space.  In migrating via Excel from Alpha 4 to Access, I seem to have lost the contents of the Memo field.  Does anyone know the filename where such fields were stored, perhaps dependent on the original table name to which they apply?  I do not think there were any such files with the .dbf extension, which constitute tables typical for databases.  I imported all files with that extension, and there were only 2, the 2nd a set of "child" records related to the first.  Any hints on where to look and how to re-attach this information would be appreciated.  I'm presuming some key field in common, of course, but don't know which of the many files in the old collection of such (that orchestrated all the database functions) is the one to try to import into, perhaps first, Excel, and then into Access.  Thanks for any help offered. (One thing I'll be trying, not done yet, is to just look for large files, regardless of extension, and snoop to see if I can tell what they contain.)

I'm using Crystal Reports XI.I have two tables with the same fields: current invoices and past invoices. I want to join the two so that I will be able to create a list of all current and past orders per customer and write formulas to total up various info like count each customer's orders and sum freight costs.I have tried creating a right outer join based on the customer number field, and the link is enforced on both tables. This results in many duplicate records from each table. Select Distinct Records is checked.I would love any suggestions about how to remedy this as well as how to write formulas based on the union of the two tables. I'm pretty new to Crystal but have not run into issues until trying to combine tables with the same fields, so I assume there is a way to set it up appropriately that I'm unaware of. Thanks much.EDIT: I found where to put an SQL statement to join the tables in a union instead, so I think I have solved this.

Hi all,
Can someone help me with this issue in the Crystal Report

I am using Crystal Report 2011 and Oracle database.
My query is to output some columns in 2 different table(A,B).
After run query, there is 126,978 rows in the result.
In table A, there are 36 different types. The result shows same
in the Oracle Sql Development and Crystal Report (126,978 rows).
it also shows 36 different types in the details section. But when I right click
on that column, there is 23 different types and missing other 13 types.
I tried many ways but without successful (still missing).
Is there any problem with the software? Data missing hence I cannot create correct
dynamic parameter. If it does not show all 36 different type, then my query possibly
wrong, but it can show in the details section, then browse data option should show all 36 types right?
Do you have any idea to solve this?

I am trying to create links to specific locations with each document between two documents. The document names will change. I can update the current name of the other document by creating a custom property called "otherDoc". I have solved most problems, however, I am unable to insert a field into the address of the link (to make the link dynamic) without utilizing the showfieldcodes command (which is very memory and time consuming since the documents I am working on are very large). Below is my code. I was wondering if there is any way to set the address as a field? Or somehow input an address and it would be understood by word to be field.

I have, amongst other tables, two tables called Stock_counted and Reported_quantity.

The table Stock_counted has the following fields:
- Shop_number
- Product_code
- Quantity_counted

The table Reported_quantity has the following fields:

- Product_code

- Quantity_lost_or_returned
- Quantity_out

1. What I would like to do is to make it one table based on Shop_number AND Product_code. So in one record I would like to have Shop_number, Product_code, Quantity_in, Quantity_lost_or_returned, Quantity_out and Quantity_counted. How do I do this, making sure that the quantities end up behind the right product and shop? It is possible that some shops don?t have all items, while other shops might not have all products reported, or both. On top of that, I have another table with a price for each product, which needs to be related to it as well.

2. It happens that some products are found more than once in one specific shop and therefore appear more than once in the table, with the same shop number and product code. How do I automatically SUM these quantities, so that this product only shows up once per shop?

I got a form A and a subform B. I use B to display data retrieved from a table while use B to simutaneously update that data. More particularly, if I click a row in B, that row will be display on A and the user will be able to edit that data. The forms were designed by someone in MS Access 97. I converted it to MS Access 2003 format. Therefore, I have to link form A and form B. However, I couldn't find Link Master Fields and Link Child Fields in MS Access 2003!

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

It really sounds like form A and subform B are both using the same table, and are not a Master/Child field link situation. But rather, form B (the subform) will have code in the "On Current" event that will find the current record on the form B within the form A, therefore allowing that record to be edited. Review your original post, I think you used the "B" one place where you meant to say "A". No matter what, you need to clear up with us out here if both form A and form B are using the same table.

make a new folder on your drive and name it icons and then when you want to change an icon to one you have unzipped, point it towards the folder you have created "icons"
it's not like Fonts, that has it's own folder - icons are usually associated with the program or app - when you want to change them, you have to tell the program or app where the new icon is that you want to use

However when i extract these pictures it extracts but i cannot see the pictures the folder simply just says 'folder is empty' but it is not empty.. i know this because in properties it says contains: 139 files.....:?:?

Well i extracted this one file to my desktop and it had a lot of files. I extracted to desktop on accident then i deleted all the files which field up my desktop and deleted them. After i had turned off and restarted my computer they were back. Now everyday i have to delete 60+files on my desktop because they keep coming back. Anyone know how to fix this?

Hi All, thanks for reading.
I have this bug type issue, when i extract files from either a .zip or .rar, every now and then when i go to delete the extracted files they appear to stay where they where, be it on the desktop usually or a specific folder, the files however have actually been sent to the bin but they still appear to remain where they were extracted too.
The only way i can make them go away is by stopping explorer in DM and restarting, then the 'ghost' files have gone from the desktop or folder.
I am totally up to date with updates, i ran all sorts of scans but nothing seems to stop this occurring from time to time which is also annoying because it doesn't happen every time !!!

Any ideas peeps

I have a little problem. FILES from capturing screens and videos, extracting compress file etc. are NOT showing immediately, I need to refresh the directory folder just to see it.

For example:

I will extract the "a.rar" it contains "a"
After extracting, no files were added to my desktop
But when i refresh my desktop
The file is now shown

I don't know if other people had this problem but I have a folder that I need to extract but apparently when I extract it to desktop, I click on the folder and noticed some files were missing. I check the unextracted folder and all the files were fine.
I realized when I extract the folder to desktop, the files aren't actually deleting because they seem to be there in the unextracted folder but not there when I extract them.
the next thing I tried is extracting one file that gets deleted from that folder into the desktop and then nothing happens. So the main thing is that the files wont extract to the desktop for a weird reason. I use McAfee anti virus and I tried disabling
everything possible from it and extracted the file. But it didn't work; also i'm running Windows 10.
All I know is that this is probably not from my antivirus and it has to do something with the file not being extracted.

Please help me fix this problem ASAP as the internet has no good answers or no answers at all.

I have a 64-bit Windows 8.1 HP. It came pre-installed 7-Zip. When I extract it changes the file names automatically upon extraction.

On my old Windows 7 desktop I had WinZip and this never happened. So I purchased and installed WinZip on the Windows 8.1 and the same thing happened, it changed the file name automatically.

I have tried all over the net and on this site to find a solution but to no avail. I also compared WinZip settings on the W7 and I can't really tell if they are the same as it is different on W8.1

My real concern is that when I extract the folder, it changes the files names adding additional characters where there would be spaces and then an extension of numbers.
Windows 7 did not do this at all. Please help!!! How can I turn this off?

MS Access:
I have several fields in a form that uses two tables. I would like to set up a command button so that when you are on a current record, it will copy the field information from the record you are on to other fields in the same record. I do not know the SQL commands to set this up.

For example, there are name fields, address fields, and phone to be copied. Reason: One is contact information; one is survey information. In most cases the information is the same but on rare instances, the information needs to be entered (when different).
This is not an update for all records in the database. This is based individually on each record.
Not sure if you need to do On current, on click, or after update.
Not sure if default value in form can be used.
Please help.

What was the extension of the compressed file and what types of files did it contain?

But it really isn't about the program doing the compressing but the data that is being compressed. Some types of files, such as many image files, are already compressed and any attempts at further compression will accomplish little if anything. Some file types, such as text files and some others, compress very well.

But is it possible, as the title of my post asks, to extract video for a dumpfile ( DMP ) created when my screen recorder froze. And I had to close the program using the task manager. ( end program )
 
It's quite a large file, ( 256 MBs ) so I figure there is possibly video data is in the file. ( along with any other info regarding the freeze up or crash I suppose )

I downloaded a .RAR with a 4 gig .mdf and a small .mds in it, and when I extract either one with WinRAR the files are nowhere to be found, but when I check my disk space I have 4 gigs less free. I tried searching for all files with the .mdf extension, and I tried turning on "show hidden files and folders" in Folder Options, but no luck. I tried three times in a different location each time, but the files are still nowhere to be found and each time 4 more gigs disappeared.

I've tried other .RAR's and they work fine. I have XP SP2. The name of the .mdf and .mds are in Japanese, if that makes a difference, but I have the Eastern Language Pack installed. Does anyone know how I can get my disk space back?

i assume you log in as the machine's administrator, so what u need to do is go to control panel, folder options, select the view tab, then uncheck the hide extensions for known file types also uncheck the hide protected operating systems files.

Then do a *.RAR search of files in folders in ur local drives which hopefully will pick it up

I would like to ask how to set WinRAR to exclude files with the exact filenames: 'thumbs.db' or '.DS_Store' (without the quotes, ignore case) from being extracted from an archive.

Ex. Files with these filenames should not be extracted:

Also, does anyone know if WinRAR has a syntax guide for the Prohibited file types list in case I'd like to add more filenames or be flexible with the rules I need?

The reason for this question, is I'd like to not extract unnecessary files from ZIP, RAR or 7z archives in Windows 7 - files like Windows 2000/XP's Thumbs.db file (Thumbnail cache) and Mac OS X' .DS_Store file (Desktop Services Store), while not being too strict and also not extracting files which just contain 'Thumbs.db' or '.DS_Store' in its filename.

One of my drives has just Windows XP Pro on it. NO service packs.

I have a usb2 mass storage device that connects to the xp drive but this storage device (drive) only functions with usb 1 capabilities. IF I install SP2 I can get usb2 capabilities but I notice that some of my games run more slowly. (I don't know why)

Is there any way I can extract just the USB2 drivers from the SP-2 disk so I don't have to install the entire service pack to the drive?

My girlfriend was on the computer for a bit (she isn't very tech savvy by the way) and when I came back on to open My Documents, all my folders were gone replaced by the files that were located in each and every one of these same folders. Is there a way to revert this or do i have to go through the time-consuming job of regrouping every files into new folders?

Is this in your Documents library by chance instead?

If so, click on View -> Arrange by -> Folder to see if that may help.

Hi all,

I'm new to Photoshop. I'm trying to save an image without the white square background. I was able to create a layer by going to Image > Extract and tracing around the object. I haven't figured out how to save the extracted object. When I save the image, it looks the same as the original (white background included). I've tried saving in different formats (JPG, GIF, PNG, etc.). How can I save the foreground image only? I've spent way too much time today looking for this, and it's probably very simple (and will make me feel like a schmuck I'm sure).

I had an .avi file which was made with the camera tilted 90 deg to the left.

I realise now that Windows Movie Maker can fix this by offering to tilt any movie by 90 degs, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I extracted the jpgs (902 of them), corrected the angle, extracted the audio and tried to create a movie in WMM but couldn't sync the jpgs/audio properly.

Is there a program that can import the jpgs/audio and magically syncronize the two back into the original movie format???

Unfortunately I no longer have the original .avi file either....

Give a try for Adobe Premiere Pro. All the tricks and any situation for editing is possible and can be done by this powerful software.

This is not free, but the price is worth for the project.

I am just starting to us VB 2008 Express. There seem to be two different types of database I can create in it. I see something called "local database" and something called "Service-Based Database". Can you tell me what is the different between the two? I am developing the application on my computer now but I would want to have the database on the server after so multiple users can access the database. I most likely be using a web hosting company for this. Thank you.

I can't figure out how to add a column to the right of all my data. I insert column, and it inserts a column LEFT of the column my cursor is in (the very last column). And I haven't figured out how to manipulate the columns to move them around like I can in Excel (which is still a hit or miss thing for me - anyone have the tip on how to do that, too?)

Hi,
I don't support Access, nor have I been trained in it, but I've been asked if I can help in this problem.
An Access database connects externally to a SQLServer database at login time for the application. How do I find which external database they are connecting to? I know that there is a way to go behind the forms to see the source code, but I cant remember how to do this.
I cannot find an obvious User/System file dsn on the PC to give me a clue.
