Preferred Solution: screen duration

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just installed windows 7 on a stock Hp dc 5000. Everything works ok except when I boot up the computer the Hp splash screen (the screen that prompts you about pressing function buttons to enter the bios) stays on for an extended amount of time, about 25-30 seconds before finally "starting windows". I've installed win7 on a similar machine before and the splash screen stayed on for a normal duration, maybe 3-5 seconds. Any suggestions on how I can shorten the splash screen duration would be appreciated.

A:Hp dc5000 splash screen duration

go to bios and see if you can set it to quick boot or simalar.

I wan't to ask for opinions and experience.

How long is too long? most of the days I have my laptop running for 10 -11 hours...I don't like to turn it on in the morning and then turn it off at night, because then my laptop is on for 13-15 hours.
Is there a difference between 13 hours and 10 hours?
Does longer means shortening MTBF?
According to my laptop failure times, 10 hours each day equals 5.5 years...although I am not sure how accurate it is.

Thanks for your help!

A:Up time duration

Your question brings back the old question, Is it better to let the computer sleep or turn it off each nigh. In the old days turning on and off would cause damage, due to the constant heating and cooling off. This is no longer true today. Most people would turn it off over night, but even that is not necessary. You must turn it off once a week or so, to let the computer boot. It is during boot that small corruption and problems are repaired and any depleted memory is restored.
Bottom, line enjoy.

Ummm Its a lot of info, a really log of data. You might want to break it into seperate jobs, and use a third party app like Acronis (much faster). My OS backup is 25 gigs and done over USB 2 so it is slower than firewire but takes abt 25 minutes with verify.

On the subject of restoring. You are probably not going to want to restore the entire 900 gigs and if its taking this long to backup it will take that long to restore nless you are using incremental

But it is taking a long time

Hi, I can not understand to what date will the warranty valid in my notebook just purchased in Italy.
The seller tell me that it be covered only for two years.
Then, when I registered the product on the HP website, entering the serial number, is covered up to 15-Apr-2019, thus three years..
Who can I ask to have with certainty the duration of the warranty?
The notebook is a Mobile Workstation

Could someone help me understand this 'dilemma'?

Hi all, been a while since I posted here (I'm helping as well as asking for help)

For some reason, Windows is not correctly showing the duration of mp3 files. Here is a screenshot:

(Mirror 1, Mirror 2)

As you can see, the durations are being shown as anything from 00:00 to 00:08. What's interesting is that the longer the real duration of the song is, the higher false duration Windows displays.

For example, a three-minute song could show up as 00:02, but an eight-minute song could show up as 00:09. Windows is seeing that some songs are longer than others, and is showing that in some way, but just isn't listing the actual durations correctly.

It hasn't always been like this, but has been for a while. I've searched for solutions in the past, and not found anything. If anyone can help me with this, I'd be really happy.

A:mp3 duration incorrectly shown

I'm not so sure but Windows XP has a service by default which updates the detail/size of each file regularly for viewing. If it hasn't done that recently or skipped them files totally then it won't show up correctly. Could be that...

I've experienced this many times over the years, but it's never bothered me TBH.

More likely though it's related to the codec your using and the program you're using to play the files. What do you have assigned to play such files by default?
What if you change the association to some other software, do you see any change?

Hi I am currently facing problems with a 8GB .mkv file (h264 and .dts) which i want to compress using avisynth (thats not i problem i can handle that). The video is 1:46 hours long, but unfortunately windows explorer and avisynth only recognise the first 49mins, as does the info provided by windows explorer. I know the video file is not corrupt because it plays using vlc media player (which i believe uses internal codecs and engine for finding out about file). I have installed k-lite codec pack which has handled h264 and .dts fine in the past. Anyone knows what may be the problem???

A:MKV file duration incorrect

Have you tried loading the file in mediacoder or anyfileconverter to see if they can read the full duration of the file? These applications can also convert the file into other formats if you want instead of avisynth.

I am not an expert in Excel but can understand the functions in it. I am working on a project where i have to calculate Response time for a ticket request. This is project works only 8 hrs a day and 5 days a week whereas there is no time restriction for incoming ticket requests. I have attached a sample data here. In the spreadsheet, column C shows the actual time when the ticket is created and Column D show when the ticket is accepted. Now if project works 12 noon till 9 pm and if the ticket is raised outside these working hours, it is treated at 12 noon. It should not include Saturday, Sunday and any public holiday. So if the ticket is raised on Friday 10 pm (Shift ends at 9.30 pm Friday) and its a public holiday on Monday, then the ticket accepted on Tuesday at 12:15 pm should give the Response time as 15 mins and not total no of hours from the ticket ticket raised. One more info about the time stamp, it is in mm/dd/yy hh:mm format.

Can someone please help me to get a formula for this calculation.

As the title suggests really, always had crap boot times with my computer but I've now re-installed everything with an SSD and it's probably even worse. Any suggestions?

Defrag perhaps? Or is that a massive no-no with SSD's... I've already ruined one before a year ago so I'm wary or how I deal with it now.

A:163387ms boot duration with an SSD?

You don`t defrag ssd`s.

Describe the process you used to do the install.

SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

With a lot of more modern computers using SSD’s (Solid State Hard Drives), one question I often get asked is if you need to defragment a SSD. That’s a good question because up until now, pretty much everyone has defragged their computer at least once.
So why do we defragment a hard drive in the first place? Well, I won’t go into super detail here since you can read about it online, but basically it’s because spinning hard drives taker longer to read data that is “fragmented” or stored in multiple locations on the hard disk. Since spinning hard drives read and write data sequentially, it will take longer for the hard drive to read a file if parts of the file are located on different parts of the disk as compared to being located altogether in one unit/space.

So defragmenting a normal spinning hard drive can be useful depending on the size of your drive, the number of files you have stored and the size of those files. Now the question becomes is defragmenting useful if the hard drive has no physical moving parts?

Well, the answer to that question is pretty easy once you understand the difference between an SSD and a HDD. An SSD is basically non-volatile flash memory, which you are probably used to using in your digital camera, etc. An SSD is fast because it randomly accesses memory instead of sequentially like an HD... So I have come across an issue here that I was wondering if anyone had an answer to... I am pretty sure this issue is intrensic to the windows operating system or internet explorer itself (though mozilla seems to have the same issue)...

Is there a place in windows XP where you can set how long a tooltip will display for a given item in internet explorer? This seems to be a function of 'mouseover' or some sort of firing code that activates if the cursor rests over an icon or text item with the title or alt property set. I would like to lengthen the amount of time from its default time (10 sec?) to about 30 seconds before it goes away... This is the same tooltip you see when using the title or alt for HTML code. I am 99.9% sure that this cannot be controlled by HTML and I do not have the option of using scripting languages (though I would like to, it would make it a lot easier if I could find a "duration" parameter or registry location that I could set this item at.

The best way to demonstrate this issue is to hover over an item that displays a tooltip, and letting the cursor sit there until the tooltip disappears (currently the TSG banner at the top does this).

1 day I noticed that when I hover over a .avi video file is doesnt display any information (only type and size). However if I hover over a .wmv file it shows type, bit rate, duration, dimensions, protection and size. (both - wmv and avi opens with WMP11)

So how do I get my Windows XP to show this info for my .avi files? I tried searching everywhere but couldnt find any settings for this. HALP!

A:Solved: avi duration doesn't show up

That may have been deleted from the registry. Removing it is a common fix for machines that lock up when an avi folder is opened. You are better off without it. Use music editing software to get avi details.

The fix is to go to:

and create a new entry:

(Default) {87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}

Don't say I didn't warn you. If you have to use the switch to shut down your machine, don't forget to run chkdsk /f to repair the file system damage.

We have employees that seem to have an issue clocking-in and clock-out at the specified time in which they're required to. They're under limited supervision and to ensure that they're not actually working when they should be clocked-out, I'm hoping i can find a solution to solve this issue.
Is there a way to schedule an account lock-out and set a duration for say 1-hour. Essentially, what I would like to accomplish is at a set time, lets just say 12:00PM, their computer locks and they're not able to unlock it (or re-login) until 1:00PM. Does anyone know of a way to accomplish such a task? I forewarning would be nice as well. Maybe altering them in advance that they're computer will lock in so many minutes or seconds.

A:Setting Scheduled Lockout with Duration?

Well...IMO, that's a management problem.
The purpose of the timeclock is to be able to verify when an employee reports for and departs from work.
Beyond that...any administrative policies desired by management...are up to management to devise and implement.
There's no need to try to prevent employees from clocking in or out...the time-clock exists to ensure that the data is accurately gathered.
If management allows employees to be late or early...there is no policy involving a timeclock or computer that is going to solve/remedy that situation, IMO.

I am trying to do a spreadsheet that monitors times of attendees. You enter a time in and time out, and then it works out 2 things

If attendee is still "attending", how long have they been here
If attendee has left, how long were they here

This part all works ok

Now, i have put in "conditional formatting" which is the supposed to do the following

Colour green for less than 2 hours
Yellow for more than 2 hours
Red for more than 3 hours

However, if there is no out time, it defaults to "red", no matter the duration, and here is the extra strange bit

If i overtype the formula with the duration showing, the conditional formatting works

In addition to this, i then want to work out, when we have multiple attendees, how many are here for the different durations. i am also having an issue with this

I am using Microsoft Excel 2003 with windows xp

I have also attached a sample of what i mean

I hope someone can help

Many Thanks

A:time (duration) problems with conditional formatting

The NOW function "Returns the serial number of the current date and time". So:

Thus use:

I am using a watchguard firewall to establish a vpn-connection from my mobile clients (windows 7 professional) to the office. This connection is established via l2tp secured with IPSec. The connection itself works fine so far, but I got one problem. I'm
not able to change the phase 1 key-lifetime for that connection on client-side, so the connection will end after 28800 seconds ( 8 hours ). I want to extend that time to a value of 12 hours. On watchguard side it is working fine, but on client-side it will
ignore the settings made in advanced firewall settings. I've set the value there from 420 minutes (equals 8 hours) to 720 minutes ( equals 12 hours ) but windows is just ignoring that value at all.

During the IKE-Handshake windows is still using the 28800 seconds in its proposal transforms. I can see that values on networking-side via wireshark. So the firewall will go down to this value because of this handshake information.
Am I missing something that has to be set in addition so windows will use the set value?

I read this tutorial many months ago to learn the secrets of this very powerful tool that Windows Desktop Search is compared to the old plain search in XP: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro.../advquery.mspx
Many people still ignore how sophisticated Window Desktop Search can be or worse they simply blame it and regret old search engine... go learn how to use it first!

Today I discovered that it can actually be used to find also MP3s by duration (finally)!

Let's say you want to search for all music >6 mins long...

First enable natural language search, it's much easier:

...after this passage, you can type in this in the Start menu:

music duration >3600000000
and you'll find all MP3s greater than 360 seconds (6 mins)! Isn't that simple?
Don't ask my you have to add 7 zeroes after the seconds, but it works!
Obviously you can do much more with the Advanced Query Syntax and this is just an example.

Hope this hint can be useful for others as it was for me...

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on an SSD, such that it is now dual booting with another hard drive with Windows 7.

All I want to do is reduce the countdown size on the duel boot loader such that it is only 1s, instead of the default 20s.

Is there a way to do that? My research has not turned anything up.

How about:

Control panel/system/advanced system settings/startup and recovery settings/ and then adjusting "time to display list of operating systems"??

I have my background set to 'Slideshow'. At the following :

Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Personalization > Desktop Background

... near the bottom is a provision to change the picture every so many units of time. I know this may seem a silly request but I was wanting to modify the available fixed time list (presets?) with my own units. How could this be done?

Hi, I have Windows 7 Ultimate X64 version ,and i have been using only one 250 gb Seagate harddisk,i just attached another seagate 500 gb harddisk two days before.Since then i'm noticing one thing.During booting the windows logo used to appear first followed by a black screen which used to hold on for atmost 1 or 1 and half seconds & then followed by the welcome screen prompting for administrative password. After having finished typing password & hitting enter the Desktop used to appear within 1 or 1 and half second.. this was the way how my system used to boot up & desktop used to appear, but now, since from the attachment of the second harddisk as i mentioned above i've noticed that during booting the above mentioned black screen are hanging on longer than previous(i.e. the welcome screen is slower to appear than the earlier case) and also the welcome screen is holding for longer duration after i am done with typing the administrative password(i.e. the Desktop is also slower to appear).....

now i want to know whether my system is ok & should this happen what i am experiencing now or is there somthing to fix up??
Let me tell you that i have my Windows 7 installed in my previous 250gb harddisk & i just attached the 500gb harddisk & then logically connected it with the remaining one.

Looking for your advice

Thanks in advance

An screen shot of the expanded view of your disk management screen may help figure out what is going on.

My system:
HP Envy dv7 Quad Notebook
Third generation i7-3630QM 2.4GHz
16GB 1600MHz Ram
512GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD  and second 512GB Samsung 840 SSD
Windows 8.1 64bit upgrade (original was Windows 8 64bit)
Onboard Intel HD4000 graphics
Also Nvidia GeForce 635M graphics card
I upgraded the ram from 8GB to 16GB and upgraded the one hard drive to two SSDs.
All Windows.
Intel drivers.
Nvidia drivers.
All software updates I could find.
My problem:
My boot duration up until 3 weeks ago was about 20 seconds.  All of a sudden, it went to about three minutes!
I have tried rolling back drivers, disabling some startup items, nothing seems to change the boot duration.
If I boot into safe mode, it seems to boot normally, so I figured it must be malware or some driver, but I can not figure it out.
Also, once the computer is up and running, it seems to run at normal speed.
If anyone can offer help, please do. I don't know if I have an infection, or some other problem.
I have run MalwareBytes in safe mode and regular mode - found nothing.
I also have Avast Internet Security installed, ran boot time scan, found nothing.
Thank you,
