Extreme lag when camming & computer is slow as well

Q: Extreme lag when camming & computer is slow as well

Hi,

Ok, a note that this problem is occurring on both my laptop & my desktop so I know that it's a HUGE problem.

Also against my wishes, my ISP wanted me to test using IE (I NEVER use IE) & for some reason there's no lag on IE, although I only tested it for a second.

I haven't been able to work for 5 days now so I really hope someone can help me quickly & yes I know everyone is busy & it's long weekend.

I normally cam with 3-4 different sites some in HD & some without HD. This is on Chrome, as I have everything set up there & it always ran faster than on Fx.

5 days ago I started to get extreme lag which was so bad I shut down all cam sites except one. Even with only one cam open in HD the lag was so bad I couldn't work.

I then tried to cam on my desktop & same problem.

I tried to cam on Fx on the laptop & while it was slightly better, it wasn't normal plus again just like on the laptop, I had problems even being able to click on radio buttons, checkboxes & moving from tab to tab.

I rebooted my computer 5 times & ran CCleaner & deleted all cache & nothing helped. Even now while typing this everything is moving at a snails pace.

I thought maybe it was the webcam itself b/c about 2 weeks ago it started to show me in a white soft hue, but on Skype it seems to work fine.

Then I thought it was my ISP. I'm in a country where the cable is one company, & the provider is another which always confuses me. I had been having problems with the provider's IP address blocking certain sites & causing problems with my VoIP line, so yesterday I switched to a new provider & that didn't solve the problem at all.

Almost 2 weeks ago I had problems with the cable company. They sent a tech out & he fixed the problem or so he said, so I thought maybe that was the issue. I got a techie last night who said he could see lag & slow speeds on his end even though my speedtests look wonderful. He said he would get an advanced team member to call me today.

They were morons, but after speaking to a manager, he insisted this isn't a problem on their end & he 3wayed it to the provider who didn't find any issue & said he thought it was my browser. When I saw one cam site working fine on IE, I quickly said goodbye.

While I would have problems on Fx & Chrome on my laptop & Chrome on my desktop makes no sense to me.

Other factors:

My Opera on my desktop doesn't seem to be able to run flash. On my laptop it seems fine. This is why I thought it was a lag issue that was affecting the flash issue b/c all of these cam sites use tons of flash & so does www.speedtest.net
I'm also having slow browser issues on the desktop although I haven't rebooted to se if that will fix the problem.
I have yet to test 3-4 cam sites on IE on my laptop to see if it works, but I wanted to get this thread started b/c I was going to post the other day, but when I thought it was my ISP, I didn't want to waste your time & I didn't. In hindsight I should have posted it b/c now 2 days have passed & I'm no closer to getting the problems resolved & I'm really nervous b/c I haven't worked.
Thank you for all your help

Preferred Solution: Extreme lag when camming & computer is slow as well

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Extreme lag when camming & computer is slow as well

Ok, this is solved. I couldn't wait any longer, but I wanted others to know what the problem was.

It was FLASH. It was corrupt. I had a feeling & mentioned it to him, so he went with that. I had thought it was the latest version's issue, but in the end it was corrupt.

It took the techie ages to get rid of all the left over flash files when he uninstalled it & then when he tried to put it back, it wouldn't go back. It took over 2 hours with me on Skype with him.

And my bad, I keep forgetting to clear the flash cache, so I advise anyone who doesn't know this, to do that. I wish CCleaner could do that so I'd get everything done in one shot.

Thanks

I have a fairly new PC, but at times it becomes extremely slow (namely when browsing with firefox and/or using "Xampp" - which never use'd to happen before), it freezes to the limit where everything becomes unaccesible, and I have to litterally unplug the computer.

I'm a web developer theirfore I use "Xampp" which is a local server, it worked fine, but during this period according to the processes, "httpd.exe" which is one of "Xampp"s dependencies has contributed to the slowness as its shown "50-100%" CPU.

I've reason to believe its due to some sort of malware, since the computer is fairly new, and Xampp never use to take up that much CPU until now...

A:Extreme Slow Computer

Hiya and welcome to Tech Support Guy

Are you still having this problem? If so, do the following:
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and... Read more

Just recently the M6300  hhas begun to be stupidly slow  after being on for a few minutes taking several seconds to respond to a key press.
CPU usage shows 100%, considerable TCIP, but no wireless activity.   Scans show no malware.  Computer has (unsupported) win 7 annd that has been no problem for 2 years.
The only clue is that some service called Dell data vault service has been trying to load a driver.  Zonealarm blocked it, and the service was trying to load that driver every 2 seconds.  I don't know what Dell data vault service is, and don't want it.  It may be malware.
The computer is unusable in this condition.
NO, win 7 is NOT the problem it has been trouble-free for 2 years.
Suggestions?

Whenever I connect external monitor or TV via HDMI the computer is slow/lagging (even moving windows or doing a right click is slow).I tried to isolate the problem and it seems to happen only when I use "Second screen only" or when the laptop lid is closes, if the lid is open and I use "Extend" or "Duplicate" everything's fine. Also, if I do reset while the monitor is still connected, it's working ok (but this is not a good solution for me as I want to keep the work evniornment).I tried playing with Display settings but nothing seems to help, maybe the community can please help me?

I have a Philips Toucam webcam that has a built in mic. My OS is Windows XP. It is a USB cam. My cam ran fine up until about 2 weeks ago. I use it for MSN Messenger mainly, but I also have used it for yahoo. One day I tried to start a video chat, I got mic but no video. So i unplugged it and plugged it back in. It didn't help. So I tried redoing the audio video wizard and that didn't help. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software and hardware. The hardware wizard recognized the cam and said it was installed and ready to use. I try again, and same thing. I have mic but no video. So I assumed it was the cam and I bought a new one. I installed the software, then rebooted and plugged the cam into the USB port, and the hardware wizard recognized it and said cam was installed and ready to use. I tried a video chat, and no video. The messages I get are the cam is either already in use or not connected. I know it wasn't in use already and I know it was connected. I hooked up each cam on my other computer, which also uses Windows XP, and both worked fine. I thought maybe it was USB ports, but my keyboard is a USB and it worked fine in every port I plugged it into. I had thought maybe it was video card, but I had been told if that was the case I wouldn't be able to play my online RPG game, which I have no issues with. I tried updating drivers for the video and the USB ports, but I got messages saying the drivers I have were the most recent. Reformatting didn'... Read more

Is it possible to get a decent quality image if you to say record in a darkish area? Any possible add-on lens you can get to provide a little extra lighting?

I have the Canon Powershot 750; hasn't been opened yet, but was wondering if there's anything better than that around the pricing range -- or an addon lens that can provide a bit o' light.

I've been having a terrible slow down in recent time. I think the main reason behind that is Windows Explorer. While I am not using it the PC works okay. Then I open it and after 10-15 min all I can do is restart the machine, often only manually. Maybe, there is another reason for that, though.

Any help will be appreciated! Thank you.

Lately my pc has been crawling, even when performing (just about) the simplest tasks. It often freezes up while surfing simple web pages, forcing me to quit everything I'm doing and restart! It's extremely frustrating and I'm close to firing it out the nearest window. I've only 256mb RAM, maybe that's a contributing factor at times when I've a few power hungry programmes open? But, it's gotten ridiculous lately and I'm sure I've got some nasties hiding somewhere!I've done everything advised in the Preparation guide - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/34773/preparation-guide-for-use-before-using-malware-removal-tools-and-requesting-help/And even re-downloaded hijackthis after being directed to the thread advising me to do so after my first posting log attempt ... so here goes a second time - Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 23:39:28, on 02/06/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16441)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\Stardock\SDMCP.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgamsvr.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgupsvc.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgemc.exeC:\Program Files\GameSpot\DownloadManager_Win32.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\EPSON\EBA... A:Extreme Pc Slow Down, Please Help!

Hello Cagey and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of infections in the log but there is a bit of housekeeping that we can do and there is also a program that has the potential to download malware.First let's do the housekeeping.Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}_ - (no file)O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://software-dl.real.com/2867c1e26d6cca...ip/RdxIE601.cabO16 - DPF: {91433D86-9F27-402C-B5E3-DEBDD122C339} - http://www.netvenda.com/sites/gampr-ie/iep/games7.cabNow close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.I would also recommend uninstalling Torrent Manager. It is considered unsafe and capable of downloading malware. See the information here. The choice is yours but I would not keep it installed. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For these types of issues I would suggest posting to the Windows XP Home and Professional forumThe techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to the operating system, performance and applications. Edit: I've tried everything in the 'slow running comp' thread to, helped somewhat, but I think I still may have a virus.

I have an HP a6863w that came with Vista but also a W7 upgrade (W7 hadn't been released yet). Did the upgrade to W7, no problems. Learned to love W7, but then about a month ago I got a pretty bad Malware infection and ended up having to reinstall Vista, then W7 (Docs stayed intact). Since then my mouse has been very sluggish and the computer has generally been very slow and unresponsive. A friend of mine has said he experienced the same thing after a reinstall. I'm wondering if this is something common, or if any of you have experienced this yourselves or can offer any advise? Maybe there's some setting that can be tweaked?

Have you tried performing a repair install to see if it was just a bad install?

Hi
I can see one piece of malware that needs to come out..

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/file...Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads Save the text that will open (report.txt) to your desktop.

1) Go to Start > Control Panel >Network Connections. Right click your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on Properties.
* Make a note of the settings before you change them just in case you need to put them back how they were.
Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically. Click OK twice.

2) Go to Start > Run, enter CMD and click OK.
At the Dos Prompt Screen, type in cd\ and then press <ENTER>.
Now type in ipconfig /flushdns and then press <ENTER>. (notice the space after ipconfig)
Close the command prompt window.

ok so just recently I got broadband internet because we have always been out of range for everything, including cable and DSL and stuff like that. so for Christmas my dad got wireless internet. (not exactly sure what its called but has some sort of antenea/satelite lookiing thing that is at this website http://ejourney.com/wireless.html) well that is what we have and we got the cheapest package that you can. so of course its not lightning fast but at least its better than dialup. so now that that is out of the way... my download speed are terrible sometimes! just now I was trying to download a file and it started out at like 68kbs and then sometimes it stays steady but most of the time it drops down to around 4 or 5 kbs (sometimes it stays around 23 or so but sometimes it stops completely because it is soooooo slow. Oh, by the way I am using a laptop that is connected wirelessly to the internet. I was just wondering why my speeds are so low. and if there is any way of increasing them.

A good sight to poke around in is: www.speedguide.net there are some tests you can run and optimize your connection speed etc. It's highly insightfull and very educational as well. Give it a try, just make sure you come back here! Cheers!

Hi,

not sure if this is the right thread to post my question.
I am working with a Laptop, Windows 2010 program. Since a few days I have noticed that when trying to open websites it takes extremly long for the website to come up.
Sometimes so long that I give you and log off.
I have run my antivirus program many times (Bidvest) to see if I 'accidently' have been invested by some virus, but so far nothing was discovered except some cookies.
is there anything what I could do to speed up this again?
Any suggestions?
Thank you already for any help.

This is just a small thing, but my X1 Extreme feels like it takes awfully long to wake from sleep. Opening the lid of my laptop, I expect it to be ready to go immediately, especially with a supposedly excellent SSD. But the screen stays black for a second or two, then the power button flashes, a few more seconds go by, the screen finally turns on, a few more seconds and Windows Hello decides to activate, the mouse finally starts to respond, and then I'm finally in. Just feels awfully janky for a performance device. Anyone experience this or have any fixes?

Hello, I've had some issues with my web browser over the past few days. I've run multiple virus scans as well as using ad-aware and spyblaster and I've come up with nothing.

I'm currently using firefox, but I've also tried google chrome and windows explorer and they run even worse. I seem to be able to ping websites okay but as soon as it gets to 'connecting', it is very slow and frequently times out completely. I've tried gaming online, using messengers, etc, without any lag issues, so it seems to be limited to browsers, which leads me to believe this is some kind of malware that my scanners aren't picking up.

Below is the DDS log and attached are the other logs.

Thanks!

It appears that you have two antivirus programs installed and running, AVG and Ad-Watch. While this may seem like better protection, they can actually conflict with one another and cause system instability or even system hangs.

In additon, you will have to uninstall AVG in order to run ComboFix, as AVG targets ComboFix's embedded files and prevents ComboFix from running.

Uninstall AVG via Programs and Features in your Control Panel, then reboot.

If ComboFix still detects AVG after uninstalling AVG and rebooting, try removing AVG remnants with AppRemover:

I bought a ThinkPad X1 Extreme and I've been using it since nearly two weeks now. My set-up specs are:  Intel Core i7 8750H16GB RAM512GB SSD WDC PC SN720 SDAQNTW-512G-1001NVIDIA GeForce 1050Ti with Max-Q4K Touch display Windows 10 Pro Given such gorgeous specs, I was expecting a lightining fast machine. However, it doesn't feel so.Cold boot (restart) takes usually from 15s to 20s. Normal boot (Windows fast start-up) is taking from 10s to 15s. Wake up from sleep also takes long, nearly 10s. The screen needs 5s to go from black (with the power button led still flashing) to login screen and from there it takes another 5s to activate biometrics (fingerprint and Windows Hello), verify identity and then enter desktop.Word and Excel need 2s to open (wich is 1s more than a 4 years old ASUS laptop I was using before, with way worse specs).Matlab R2106a requires an outstanding 40s to open, while on an old MacBook Pro only needs 15s. VirtualBox needs 7s to open and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS from VirtualBox took nearly 1 full minute to show the login screen. Plugging the AC cable does make some difference, however not so much for heavy software like Matlab (30s with AC). And all this was with max performance mode setted within Windows and also Lenovo Vantage utility software.  I don't think it's something hardware related, since Cinebench is giving me 1365 cb with Windows increased battery mode and 2178 cb with AC plugged in and max performance mode. So I was helping a coworker diagnose some issues with his computer and scanned a few USB keys that I thought might be infected - I couldn't find anything. (Today I read how Stuxnet was transmitted and realized that those files wouldn't be detected by any scanner..so I'm very curious, maybe this was something similar).. The day I helped him (Tuesday), my computer was fine, as was the next day. I took yesterday off and when I came back today I was noticing things weren't running right. Logon became much longer and now I'm experiencing bouts of unresponsiveness. The mouse still works but I can't click on anything, windows become Not Responding but if I wait then things pick back up. There's no disk usage and CPU is pretty much idle all the time. I've tried checking out ProcMon but I'm still learning how to use it so nothing is sticking out yet... although there could be but I don't understand yet.

I'm running a quick MBAM scan right now and so far nothing is detected but I don't think anything will. This is very odd.

Some wierd symptoms - Opening Firefox, it takes forever to connect to Google (homepage).
Opening Notepad++ takes about 2 minutes (should be instant!)

I just don't know where to start looking, hoping to get a hand.

Thanks,

I have a Dell Inspiron15 Laptop with Vista and IE8.
Since quite a while it crashed completely about once per day while I was working in MS Word. All I could do was shut it down by pushing the power button 4 seconds and then start up again. The following, however, does not apply to software installed on my laptop; that works fine.
Now, since about three days, I am having problems in IE. When starting the Internet Explorer, it takes about 35 seconds to build up my Yahoo homepage. When I type an address in the address bar, first it takes about 5 seconds for each letter I deleted, then another 5 seconds for each letter of the new address to show, while a "not responding" comes up in between, so "not responding" shows, goes away and a letter shows, then again "not responding", goes away and a letter shows, etc., etc., until the address is complete. Then it takes at least another 5 seconds, usually longer, for the site to come up. The day before yesterday it was so bad that I could hardly get any site up. I did a clean up, a defrag, and a total Norton virus scan over night. My homepage is coming up a little faster now (about 25 seconds), but the problem of going to other sites still persists.
Does anybody know what is going on here? Except for taking it all down and re-install (and I'm not even sure that that would help), I am at the end of my poor wits. Thanks a lot in advance.

I fixed most of my Wi-Fi issues today by updating bios. I hadn't before because it said that the current version and the one I was trying to update to were the same. Today, I thought, "What the heck? It won't hurt anything." After the subsequent reboot, Wi-Fi works awesomely.

Maybe it could work for you too?

Hello, and thank you for trying to help me. My families computer has been infected with a virus, or malware. I tried doing scans with superantispyware and mcaffee but the things that they deleted didn't fix the problem.

What happens is about seven internet explorer boxes will open up at sites that you never visited, they are strange, one is usually for some sort of dating site and others are for some sort of flash game. Sometimes, but not always, there is a box asking you to click ok to fix the problem. I do not believe anyone clicked any of these pages, instead I told them to end the processes.

Also, I don't go on this computer much but I have noticed its extremely slow, I have a much faster computer so maybe I'm just used to that but to me it seems like the cpu or something is being used by the virus. as there is even somtimes a delay in the letters that I'm typing showing up.

Svchost.exe Extreme Memory Usage Crashes Computer When Computer Idle
I am currently experiencing a problem that started just a few days ago where the svchost.exe process keeps taking up memory on my computer even when the computer is idle and continues to grow to taking up to 99% of memory before it crashes/freezes the computer and it has to be restarted several times a day to clear the memory back down. However sometimes when I restart the computer within an hour or a couple of hours or sometimes less the memory will get exhausted again.

One special note is that since my Windows 7 OS was preinstalled on my HP computer, I do not have access to the original Windows DVD and the DVD drive on my computer is currently broken and is unable to be used.

I downloaded the TSG SysInfo tool and the FRST tool with the following results.

I was able to download the FRST tool and I have the following results, so hopefully this will help someone to be able to help me with this problem it seems to be getting worse as time goes on eating up memory.

This may cause the program to stall. When finished, a log file will be displayed (that can also be found at C:\Combofix.txt).Please copy and paste the contents of this file into your next post.Note: If you receive an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion." after the scan, just restart the computer.(You can find more detailed instructions in this guide on using Combofix.)

Hey, I just recently moved to a new house, and since then, I've experienced severe packet loss (17%), My personal guess is that the wifi card on my laptop is dying since, before I moved I had to move the router closer to my computer for a better connection (Which is no longer possible in this new house.) This is getting extremely annoying, if anyone could try to come up with a solution it'd be great. Thanks!
Ah, and since I didn't give any information, if you require me to copy paste some information or provide a screenshot or anything, Feel free to suggest that and I will reply back with such things. Please help and thank you very much!

Hello All,

After spending a lot of time isolating the specific update that was giving me the extremely slow reboot time, (from 5 seconds to 150 seconds after update) I was able to determine that Windows optional update -Qualcomm Atheroos Communication - Bluetooth Controller - Qualcomm Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth 4.0 + HS was the cause of the lag.

I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same problem and might have a solution to the lag. from 5 seconds to nearly 3 minutes is a substantial lag in restarting the computer.

I'm hoping that someone might have a solution to this problem.

The computer is a MSI GS70 229US.

thanks for the help!

A:Extreme slow rebooting speed after windows update

Hi,

Always best to download drivers from manufacturers instead.

For Atheros, this is good to use though: ATHEROS Bluetooth drivers for Windows

As far as reboot time, it is special after Windows Update. It is expected to take longer usually. There is only a problem when you reboot like 3 or 4 times and the issue remains.

But ya, just update from the link. If you already have the latest they have there, check back in a few days.

I have 1000mbps internet connection. When I booted my Laptop (T430) from a USB with Linux Mint and checked the internet speed, it was 800+ Mbps. With Windows 10 Pro it is only ~150Mbps.Windows version: 1703I had to restore my windows to this version because after the last bigger update (1709) the whole laptop was so slow that it was impossible to work with. The internet speed was only ~50-70Mbps.Well, now the system fast enough that at least I can work on it. But still, 800+ vs 150 is a huge gap.Any idea what should I do?It is so annoying and disappointing that such an expensive laptop (even if it is 5 years old) with 16 GB RAM and with a Samsung SSD 850 Pro is totally useless. It is ridiculous.Every driver is up to date. I am connecting to the internet via cable, wifi is turned off.

I eagerly awaited the online release of HL2, and once it was fully released I immediately went in to play (after setting video settings and the like). Unfortunately, every time I have tried to start a new game and play, everything loads up, but once the actual game starts (since it's a new game it goes to the title screen first), it slows to an absolute crawl. Even when I press escape to exit its extremely jittery, and only goes away when I exit. Now, this is not simply low fps - it is actually in slow-motion. I'm getting about a frame per second, in slowmo. Normally, when one would get really low fps, the actual gametime wouldn't slowdown - however, with my problem it does.

By the way, I have been playing Counter-Strike Source flawlessly beforehand, and I can still play it flawlessly now, so I can't seem to think of a problem from my video card. Another thing is interesting too - I occassionally play lemmings on internet explorer (someone was kind enough to host it), and once about 50 or so lemmings are on screen, everything gets extremely slow (its a progressive slide to slowmotion hell). Even though lemmings would run perfectly on any 100mhz computer, my 2250mhz Athlon processor cannot handle it. Obviously, its not the mhz that's the issue - there is some other problem with it.

The same problem at least seems to be happening for Half Life 2. In any event, I uninstalled Steam and am going to reinstall all the game files to see if that works.

My problem is weird. I bought a brand new Lenovo z50-75 laptop. 4 cores, 4 Gb RAM, etc. I installed a 64 bit Windows 7 (SP1) on it. After I installed the Windows, the boot was long and the programs loaded slow too. So I downloaded the latest Ahci drivers (14.9), but nothing changed. I decided to try this out with SSD (Kingston SSDNow V300). The results were the same, the machine was SLOW! The Ahci is ON - I checked it in BIOS. What is happening? Please help me!

Hello folks,

Well, at this moment, my computer is on a sad state of disrepair. The following are some of the symptoms:

1. Cannot see hidden files and folders, even when the option is enabled in Folder Options.
2. Extremely slow startup, frequently beginning with a message such as "Data Execution Protection has closed Windows Explorer in order to protect your computer".
3. Frequent pop-up virus warnings from Norton AntiVirus, identifying threats as "Trojan.NsAnti.Packed" but is unable to repair/remove the affected files. The files are listed as C:\xk2n.bat and C:\pnt.com
4. Frequent lockups and crashes, e.g. right now I cannot use the Task Bar because it's "frozen" and same with the desktop.
5. Sometimes I cannot copy/paste.
6. I have received the "System shutdown due to RPC service terminated unexepectedly" countdown. Also a similar one but with DCOM or something.

What I have done so far is run Norton AntiVirus and let it "fix" some of the problems it encountered, but that didn't do much since it just 'solved' about 3 of the myriad of threats detected. I ran msconfig and unticked "cvko" (located at C:\WINDOWS\system32\cvko.exe) from the Startup list.

As you can see, there are a lot of things going wrong. I would appreciate your help very much. I would like to avoid having to reformat, or I'd like to return my computer to a working state decent enough so I can reformat later when I have more time.

It seems like there a lot of people experiencing very similar issues as me, but there are some slight differences. If I let it hang long enough, SOMEtimes it will finish booting up(takes about 5 min), but not always. I usually have to kill explorer.exe and restart it using task manager. I can use, like others here, the explorer window, but thats it. The screen is black, no taskbar, no start menu or desktop background. What could cause this, would a registry repair program fix it, is it spyware, or is it just a broken Windows OS?

ps. I started my own thread, so I wouldnt hijack someone else's, so please help me out here, even if you've already stated the same stuff.

Hi,

I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with SP 1 original unmodified MS Technet ISO to a blank Crucial RealSSD C300 SSD drive and it is taking hours to do that. The last time I did the install it took almost 4 hours to copy the files, I tried it from a DVD drive and from an external USB-HDD and there was no speed difference. After the installation was done, the SSD was very fast though, no problems at all then.

Now I have to install again and I do not want to wait again a half day just for the files to copy, so I hope anyone can point me towards a solution for this problem.

My Mainboard is a ASROCK 870 Extreme 3 , I use AHCI , AMD AHCI Bios is disabled and AHCI is enabled for SATA3_5 and 6 .

Thanks for any help.

A:Super slow Windows install on Asrock 870 Extreme 3 with RealSSD C300

Are you booting the installer and not running it from another OS?

If so then I'd download another ISO, try writing to flash stick using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool.
Boot under USB, Removable or HD's. Flash stick install is known to be faster.

You could have a bad DVD burn - if necessary to use DVD, burn with ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals and try SSD in first SATA port in AHCI mode.

Hello 1st time poster with a question-
XPS8700 3.60 gigahertz Intel Core I7-4790, windows 8.1, 32 megabytes of ram, A11 BIOS
The problem encountered was extremely slow screen loads, some programs would time out, other screens took forever to come up. The spinning icon was very slow. This happened the first time I started up the computer and Dell tech support had me run the F12 diagnostics, all items passed, so he had me update the BIOS from A10 to A11 and the problem was resolved. This was a year and a half ago.
The same problem happened 2 nights ago. I first ran virus scan and malware scan. All of them reported no issue. I had Verizon reset my FIOS connection and check my Internet-no issue on their end..
I was finally able to resolve the issue the next morning by running the F12 diagnostics, the long version, took about 3 hours or so and now the computer is back to normal. Diagnostics were clean, no issues reported and everything passed.
I have a program that gives a complete profile of my computer-The Belarc Advisor- I ran it while the problem was present and my processor shows a speed of 57.65 gigahertz, not 3.60 gigahertz.
I reran the Belarc Advisor after the problem was resolved and now we are back to normal, 3.60 gigahertz.
Has anybody every encountered this issue or seen the processor speed change so dramatically and then return to normal?

A:Extremely slow screen loads and extreme change in processor speed

Unless you mis-typed it, something was wrong with what Belarc found because there's no way a CPU could run at 57.65 GIGA-Hz.
Back up your personal files on external media ASAP, in case your hard drive is about to fail....

Hi everyone,

I need some advice diagnosing a problem with my parents computer. I have been trying to help them out over the phone, so please bear with me on this.

The computer is a few years old. Runs Windows XP with 512 MB RAM, 1.8 GHz processor and a 120 GB hard drive. It's "protected" from Viruses and Spyware by Norton Internet Security 2008.

On Sunday my parents called me saying that the computer had slowed down immensely. I clocked over 20 seconds just for them to expand the start menu. Running programs is nearly impossible.

I was able to walk them through a round of Advanced Windows Care and Ccleaner to fix any registry glitches and clean out any junk files. That did not help the problem at all. They also did a MalwareBytes scan which turned up nothing. Then they attempted to defrag the hard drive over night, but it was impossible due to the extreme lag.

The really odd part is that CPU usage hovers between 5-10% even while lagging terribly, with occasional spikes up to 15%. I expected it to be maxed out...

Any ideas on how to fix this problem are extremely appreciated! It has been very difficult to help them through this, because it takes such a long time to run the diagnostics that I am so familiar with.

I am having various problems with my computer. I get a lot of errors that relate to my memory although I'm not completely sure if it is the problem.

First off, here are my specs:
AMD 3800+ Dual Core
M2N-E ASUS Motherboard
1 GB DDR2 PC5300 RAM
ASUSX1300PRO 256MB PCI-E
Western Digital SATA HD 250GB
OPTIMAX 550 Watt PSU

Generic keyboard and mouse and Dell Monitor.

My friend built most of the computer except installing the hard drive which I bought and installed myself.

I started out trying to install Windows XP many times but each time there would either be an installation error. Sometimes it would say that it's missing a file and sometimes it would just freeze. A couple of times, it has restarted and I had to do the installation all over again. I tried and I tried until it finally worked and I thought that would be the end of the problems.

If I try to start a program, my computer will restart sometimes. Each time I restart my computer, at least 1 program won't work. Sometimes Adobe Photoshop will give me a memory error, sometimes Firefox won't start when I click it, sometimes I get conversational errors when using Windows Live Messenger, and sometimes, Windows Live Messenger goes extremely slow.

My games don't work all the time either. Half Life 2 and Counter Strike Source never start when I try to play them and Halo has various errors like files missing, etc.

Also, my microphone port on my front and back panel don't work properly. It receiv... Read more

Hello everyone.

I'm having a lot of trouble regarding my son's ASUS Aspire laptop. It's running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. My wife shut my son's laptop one night and put it away without turning it off first. When I gave it back to him, the battery had died and was showing the Disk Check screen. I ran the disc check process and it froze at 9% all night long. I shut it off and disregarding the disc check process, I tried to log on. After about 10 minutes of nothing but black, a blue screen appeared and it turned off the computer. I tried to log on again after that and got in successfully. The computer is now running very slowly, and will not connect to the Internet. I tried running Malwarebytes (the most recent update) and it would not open. I tried starting it in safe mode and that freezes when it reaches...

Loaded: \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\avgidsha.sys

Is there any way I can log into this computer and create a disc backup? I plan on restoring it to original factory settings after the backup.

A:Extreme Computer Problem

Instead of booting into safe mode, choose the last known good configuration option that is in the advanced boot menu screen with safe mode. If this doesn't work, you could also try system restore in the recovery options. You get there by pressing one of the f keys at boot.

(I realize your actual question was creating a disc backup instead of getting the computer working, but I don't do much of creating backups so I'm not great at that. Until someone else replies with a way of doing that, we can try and get the computer working)

CORRECTION: Last known good configuration should not solve your problem. This is because it will boot as the computer was the last time you successfully booted into the system. Since you have already been able to log into the system, that is what is stored in LKGC, so your computer shouldn't be any different than now. My apologies.

Hey there, and thanks in advance for any help! Coupla weeks ago, firefox started acting wierd, so I followed a friends advice and went and got AVG to run a rootkit/av scan, and sure enough, 2 rootkits showed up, which I deleted.

"";"MBR";"Rootkit.TDSS.TDL4";"Object is inaccessible."
I had AVG heal both of them, and on reboot, my computer slowed WAAAAY down. And it's getting progressively worse each boot up. I used TDSS killer since apparently I had it and it wasn't letting me post on here before, seems to be working now, but comp is still running really slow. I havn't noticed any of the other problems I've been having yet, just the slowdown. any help would be appreciated!

We have a Windows Vista computer. Today while my brother was on youtube is suddenly crashed and blue screened. Unfortunately I wasn't here to see exactly what happened, but when I returned we were having the same issue. If we turn the computer on, it starts booting up and then goes to certain screen, please check the picture I took.

picture 1: http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/s...9/IMG_0015.jpg

We have tried F10, F2, F12 and they all bring us to the screen to launch start up repair. We tried start up repair, which will scan saying checking for repairs, then it was start disk checking. The disk check will run and then stop after a while, and we have to start over again.

OR It will keep disk checking and then suddenly go to a blue screen that says dumping memory.

If we try "start windows normally" it goes back to picture 1.

Please help us, we have over 5g of family photos and important documents, we dont want to lose them!

Hard drive is dying, apparently...Is it a home-built machine or OEM?

Look for your hard drive's manufacturer (if you don't know, it may be listed in the BIOS or you'll have to burn an Ultimate Boot CD, let us know if you need it) and download the correct test from here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f234...es-302602.html

Burn it to a CD or DVD with ImgBurn: www.imgburn.com

Good luck.
