I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:How do I find missing snipping tool?

Snipping tool should be here: C:\Windows\System32\SnippingTool.exe.

If not, download this zip file. De-extract the zip and drag Snipping Tool.exe into system32 and then Right Click on it and chose Create Shortcut (if you already have a SnippingTool.exe in system32, you do not need to use my one). On the dialogue press Yes, drag it into Accessories in the Start Menu

Also try going to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off > and select Tablet PC Components.

This used to work fine for me but two days ago it changed mysteriously so that when I try to use it it switches straight to the desktop screen, and so I can't snip what I wanted to. I don't know what to do now.

If you are trying to snip from an app you will have to use the Prt Screen function.  While on the desktop you can snip anything just like you used to.  Prnt Screen will create a folder in your Pictures folder called Screenshots (or something like that) and each screen shot will be numbered.

I just got a new computer, Win 7 Pro.  I never had a problem with the Snipping Tool on my now defunct computer.  Now, while it selects and makes the snip, it won't Save it, not with the Save button nor Save As from the menu.  I've tried different
options, always copy snips to the clipboard, and Prompt to save before exiting.  Both options on and off.  I've even tried running it as Admin.   Nothing works.  All I can do is copy it into a graphics program and save it there.
That's a major pain when I'm making a lot of s-caps.
And compatibility changes are all grayed out.
Any ideas would be appreciated, as I've come to use this tool a lot.
Thanks.

If this happens to you, try using System Restore...then when you are notified that there are updates available, deselect all of them and then install them one at a time...You may have to restart your machine after some of them...

In the past, I have lost some Windows function or personal setting after doing Updates and the above has 'fixed' it every time.
It may be just due to my set up or machine but it seems to happen when there are more than just a few 'Recommended' or 'Important' updates (7 or more) but it also happens sometimes if I select some 'Optional' updates.

Would any of the more techy savvy people out there be willing to look into this? I recently uninstalled office 2007 and then installed 2010 and noticed that the snipping tool and journal wouldn't work. After a lot of research I then tried the following:

Restoring an image of my system from the 30/06/10
Updated my antivirus software - snipping tool etc work fine - restore point taken
Updated firefox - snipping tool etc work fine - restore point taken
Updated Windows - snipping tool etc work fine - restore point taken
Updated Java - snipping tool etc work fine - restore point taken
Uninstalled Office 2007 rebooted and then installed Office 2010 - snipping tool etc failed.

I then went through the whole process again to be sure except before unstalling office 2007 I had a look in C/Windows/System32 folder. I noticed there is file called wisptis.exe which is 396kb. In the C/Windows/SysWOW64 folder there is also a file called wisptis.exe which is 287kb. These are used for tablet fuctions in Windows.

After I uninstalled office 2007 and then installed office 2010 I noticed that the wisptis.exe 396kb was there in CWindows/System32 folder but the file wisptis.exe 287kb was missing from C/Windows/SysWOW64 folder. I tried copying the file wisptis.exe from an old backup into the syswow64 folder but this doesn't work. There is clearly a bug with office 2010 somewhere as this doesn't happen with office 2007. Windows Vista and 7 have a great, easy to use image snipping tool, Snipping Tool. No such included tool comes with Windows XP, or earlier Windows. I just found and tried a good (so far) alternative, tried on Windows XP: FastStone Capture, which comes in a portable form in a zip file. http://www.faststone.org/FSCapturerDownload.htmhttp://www.faststone.org/(Their site pages)The pages there shows FSCapture as shareware with a fee, but the find through internet search was for freeware snipping, and the documentation that comes with the package does not specifically indicate that it's either commercialware or freeware.

I've been using Windows 7 (64-bit) Snipping Tool for years and suddenly today, when I launch Snipping Tool, the dialog box only shows the Title Bar and not the option buttons like New (with the drop-down arrow, etc) AND if I do get a screen capture, the Snipping Tool editing window (where you can highlight or use the pen) no longer allows me to change the type of image I capture (rectangle, window, etc.)

I have read many other posts here and else and nothing has worked. I've done:

- System Restore
- SFC /SCANNOW - no problems were found.
- downloading someone else's Snipping Tool and replacing the one I had in the System32 folder
- Went into Control Panel and made sure the Tablet PC open IS checked
- did a registry scanner - it cleaned up legacy stuff
- virus checker - always running and no issues
- have rebooted in Safe Mode, where the same problem occurs
- Did a System Restore to a few days ago - this did not fix the issue

NOTHING has corrected this.

Does anyone have any ideas besides what I have noted above and besides recommending other programs? I have SnagIt - but sometimes the Snipping Tool is perfect for certain things. Mostly, I am perplexed by this sudden issue.

I have attached two files to show what my Snipping Tool now gives me.

Thank you for your help on this. This is really perplexing.

Some built-in programs have suddenly disappeared from the 'Accessories' folder in the Start Menu, including Sticky Note, Snipping Tool, Sound Recorder, and the Tablet PC Tools folder has been emptied too, and maybe even more programs that I'm not aware of. (I don't know why this happened; the only reason I can think of is maybe that I ran a Tune-Up from my antivirus program.)
I have looked online for solutions, I have tried:
-Unchecking and re-checking the 'Tablet PC Tools' option in the 'Turn Windows Features On or Off', which only bought back the programs in the Tablet PC Tools folder in the Start Menu but not the Sticky Notes and others
-Restoring to an earlier point, but didn't work
-Entering in sfc /scannow into the Command Prompt but all it said was that Windows had no integrity problems or something after scanning, and didn't fix anything

The programs are still there, I found the 3 of them in C:/Windows/System32 as exe files and they work from there but they just won't show up in the Start Menu or when I do a search. I don't know what else is missing. Is there a way to bring them back to the start menu? Would it be fixed with a factory reset? -but I don't really want to do a factory reset unless I'm out of options.

Help would be much appreciated!

On my Windows 7 machine I was able to click the Snipping Tool from the tool bar and it would open automatically in rectangular snip mode. Now, with Windows 10 I have to click the Snipping Tool from the tool bar, snipping tool window opens, then I have to click on New and then finally select Rectangular snip. Is there a way to bypass the snipping tool window and go directly to rectangular snip mode like it used to do in Windows 7? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me.

I've heard people complain about one extra mouse click, which always makes me laugh, but I don't have to select the shape. I don't know what happened here, but my shortcut that points to the snipping tool turned into one of those generic icons - and it says that it can't find C:Windows\System32\SnippingTool.exe... Sure enough, a check of \System32 shows it's not there. I didn't go in there... so I have no idea what happened here. It's not in the recycle bin either, so it didn't get accidentally deleted, at least not recently.

So, is it as simple as grabbing a copy of SnippingTool.exe from another installation and pasting it into \System32...? Any risk in this (aside from it not working if there were some dependencies that are also gone?)

If that doesn't work does sfc restore this?

A:SNIPPING TOOL

Hello,

If you are using Windows XP, you might want to try a free program called PrintKey 2000, version 5.10 Full. It should do what you need, and I have had no problems using it myself for several years, both at home and at work. Not sure if it also works in Vista or 7, though, but you might give it a try to find out.

The "about" feature of the software claims it is free for use by an individual or Company.

Please note, however, that the software is no longer supported by the manufacturer, as they are now selling a more advanced version called PrintKey-Pro. The older, free version should still be safe to use, though.

Good luck.

Has anyone else noticed this bug with the Snipping Tool?

This is a Window snip of CPU-Z and I highlighted the name of the processor. Notice the blank area above the snip, and where the highlighted mark is.
