I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Background: clone the entire contents of the HDD to a SSD with the aim to replace the HDD, including the OS.

After having cloned a HDD with Windows 7 laptop to a SDD successfully, and replaced the HDD with the SDD, resulted in a smooth boot exactly the the same procedure failed with a 2007 laptop Vista 32bit.

Procedure with support of the guidelines of the SSD Vendor (Sandisk):
1. Initialize SSD
2. Clone the entire HDD to the SSD
3. Replace the HDD with the SSD
4. Start the laptop.
5a. Result with a Win 7 laptop: OK
5b. Result with a Vista 32bit laptop: failed

Failure with Vista (I'm not that technical):

The BIOS indicates: no IDE device found.
When starting up, the message 'Operation System not found' appears

A major difference between the Win 7 and Vista laptop is the transfer mode of the (former) HDD and the new SSD: Win 7 had a SATA 300 installed, while the Vista has a SATA 150. The SSD is SATA 600.

What I did?
1) I created a ISO Vista 32bit file to get the laptop into the repair mode. This repair mode does not recognize a drive c: (checking out with the installed DOS).
So, i'm turning in circles. There is no way to get the internal SSD recognized.

2) When connecting the new SSD drive with USB to check the SSD status with the Computer Management/Disk Management tool, this is displayed:
The internal HDD (containing the system) shows: Healty (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition). The USB connected SSD shows: Healty (Active, Primary Partition). Further, the ... Read more

A:No bootable device found-please enter a new boot device

Try, removing the battery, unplug the device and holding the Power button down for at least 30 seconds. Re install the hard drive, making sure of proper connection. Replace battery and Power plug, go into bios and set optimized defaults. Then see if the hard drive is recognized. Try to listen and see if the hard drive is spinning up.

Hi there guys,

Originally i had windows 7 installed on my laptop and i had four partitions on my computer.

C - Windows 7 installed system,primary parition
D - logical partition - where windows xp was installed
E - logical parition - where my documents word files and so on
K - 160gb for applications to be installed (primary partition, system)

i installed windows xp on drive D after formatting and everything was working but when i installed easybcd to add windows 7 to boot...i encountered a problem. I cannot have xp + win7 together in the boot due to windows xp installed on a logical partition and its boot file is in a unknown primary partition. I Decided to convert Drive K to Logical and Drive D(XP INSTALLED) to primary. After my computer restarted., it brought up a new error saying no boot device(S) FOUND...

i ran windows 7 setup cd to repair but no operating system was found....i ran cmd repair typed in bootrec.exe /scanos - it found windows 7 then i tried bootrec.exe /fixboot - not working, tried /rebuildmbr computer restarted but same error. I Ran windows XP CD it said no installation sources available/found that means no harddrive. however windows 7 setup repair option i saw all the drives but i can't install a freash copy of windows on any of partitions.

Can anyone help me with this problem. what i have done wrong and how can i fix a problem like this...
thanks in advance

Asad

Sounds to me that you now have no system (boot) partition. If you can't fix this (mark one of the partitions "system" or "boot") with the Windows 7 installation DVD or the XP installation CD use a bootable partitioning program, such as GParted.

A:Boot device not found

JHP3595 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! I read your post about no boot device found and wanted to help. These problems are generally due to one of two basic problems:1) Failed hard drive2) Corrupted/missing boot loader filesAs to the first, please follow the directions in this link for testing your hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024If that confirms your drive has failed, then you need to replace it. Please report back if that is the case.As to the second, you will need access to a working PC for this step in order to create the media needed to repair your PC boot loader.Once you have that, please download and create Win10 install media from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit). While you CAN change these settings, do NOT. If you do, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!Boot from the media you created, and follow the directions in this link: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanced-startup-options-boot-windows-10-a.htmlYou will need to go to the Advanced Options screen and click on Startup Repair. You will probably have to run Startup Repair three times for it to fix all the boot loader problems. When done, your PC should boot OK. If it does not,... Read more

Don't know -- there is not a single "standard" price. Also, if your PC can boot from USB, HP sometimes has the option to order a USB stick instead of DVDs. And, if HP no longer stocks the media, the other places might -- and they have different charges. I've heard ranges of $10 to $40.Good Luck

I updated Window 10 yesterday, and woke up this morning to finde out that my laptop went crazy.
When I turned it on, the supportassist popped up and said, "Operating System Loader has no signature. Incompatible with SecureBoot. All bootable devices failed Secure Boot verification."
First, I went Set up(F2), then Boot Sequence to change boot into Legacy.
It didn't work. Now it says "No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot," and keeps on going on loop.
Secondly, I disabled the Secure Boot, but it's  still stuck on "November Boot device found."
Thirdly, I tried hard reboot, opened the back and unplugged/replugged the battery, HDD, and CMOS battery. Nothing worked.
Lastly, I read online that I should remove HDD off the laptop and if it passes the Dell Logo splash screen, it means HDD is faulty. I tried it and it went past the Dell Logo. So does it really mean I have a faulty HDD?
I don't know much about hardwares and stuff so it would be very kind of you guys to help me?

@EliHarper Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but according to HP, that error message means that your hard drive is in imminent danger of failing. While it could last for several more days, it could also fail immediately! The more you use the drive, the less likely you'll be able to recover anything on it.So, there are four issues to address here:1) Data Recovery2) Drive replacement3) Recovery Media4) System restoration---------- Data Recovery ----------Your best bet for recovering data now is to do the following:1) Remove the hard drive from the PC2) Purchase a USB-to-Hard Driver adapter kit3) Download and install this utility on a working PC: http://www.majorgeeks.com/news/story/recover_data_in_3_steps_with_minitool_power_data_recovery_free_...4) Connect the old drive to the working PC5) Run the data recovery utility to see what can be retrieved from the old drive. If that tools does not find what you need, an alternative is Recuva: http://www.piriform.com/recuvaAnd, if that does not work well, the best tool out there is this one, but only the trial version is free: http://www.file-recovery.com/---------- Drive Replacement ----------laptops:The drive will need to be replaced. Hi, Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Bios option ( usually f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages. Note:  If the option to run these tests is not available in the Bios Menu, use the f2 diagnostic menu instead. Can you also post back with the following details.   The full Model No. and Product No. of your notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information.   The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 64bit ). Regards, DP-K

I'm not sure what the operating system is, but it is either Microsoft Windows 10 (32 or 64-bit). When I turned on my laptop on Friday, I got this following message: "Boot Device Not FoundPlease install an operating system on your hard disk.Hard Disk - (3F0)F2   System Diagnostics" I also did the quick and extensive hard drive tests and saw that it failed the Long DST Test. So I bought a hard disk drive replacement and replaced the hard drive with a Crucial MX200 2.5 Solid State Drive 500GB SATA 6Gb/s. It passed the quick test, the SMART check, and the Long DST Test, but oddly at default BIOS settings (Internal Network Adapter Boot disabled, Network Boot Protocol IPv4+IPv6 [UEFI], Legacy Support disabled, and Secure Boot enabled) it still says,"Boot Device Not FoundPlease install an operating system on your hard disk.Hard Disk - (3F0)F2   System Diagnostics"  And then, if I enable Legacy Support, I get a whole new setting: Internal Network Adapter Boot disabled, Network Boot Protocol IPv4 [ Legacy], Legacy Support enabled, and Secure Boot disabled. After saving it by pressing F10, I was taken to "Operating System Boot Mode Change" (021), where I enter the assigned four-digit code and press "Enter." After that, the computer restarted, and  I was taken to "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key." I'm not quite sure what they mean here. My desktop computer is experiencing some kind of boot up issue. I have a Dell Inspiron 3650 with Windows 10 that I just bought in March.
I'm not a tech savvy person at all, and I have no idea how to fix this issue.
My computer was working perfectly normal beforehand, and I was about to update and shut down my PC while I left the house for a bit. I came back home about 3 hours later and I saw my computer was stuck on 3% updating. This is where I'm sure I messed up because I know you're not supposed to force shut down a computer while it's updating because it can cause data loss. But foolishly I did it anyways because it just seemed really strange that it was stuck while updating, because it had never done that before.
I tried turning my computer back on but was met with the Dell Support Assist screen telling me "No Boot Device Found"... No matter how many times I tried restarting, it was that same screen showing up. I tried looking around to fix the issue myself and I read that I should run diagnostics to check if everything is working correctly. I ran diagnostics 2 times (I waited a couple hours) and it said "All tests passed" every time.
At this point I have no idea what to do. After looking around, I've been given the options of reinstalling Windows... but I don't have a Windows installation CD and I don't have another computer to download an installer to a USB. Im not sure what to do anymore... is my hard drive dead? Do I hav... Read more

Hello,
I have a dell Inspiron 3521 that I purchased in December 2013.  A couple of days ago upon starting up the computer, after the dell logo, the computer displayed, "Check Media: Fail" twice and then the following message: "NO Boot Device Found.  Press any key to reboot the machine".  I restarted the computer, pressed the F2 button to see if the hard drive was detected as as you can see on the pic below the "Fixed HDD" reads "St500LT012-1DG142 (4GB).

Then I ran the ePSA Pre-boot System Assessment and as you can see in the second pic below next to the hard drive is a blue circle with the letters "NA" even though this diagnostic tool runs to completion and states that "All tests passed".

So, what should I do?  Reseat the hard drive?  Buy a new hard drive?

Ok. here's how this happened. I have a friends computer that has a sata drive and wanted xp on it. Since i didn't want to spend the time finding the drivers and slipstreaming them to the disk i decided to plug in the sata drive to my computer as a slave and install the OS through my computer. When i did that i told it to let me choose the drive letter to install to. Everything installed fine. My machine went to a dual boot setup and his hard drive booted up fine. Well all the boot files are stored on my computer and when I hooked up his sata drive to his computer it doesn't find a boot device. I thought that all it would need are some boot files, so i copied boot.ini, ntldr, and ntdetect. it still has the problem. am i missing some files still to boot?

you can try FIXBOOT and FIXMBR in the recovery console.

if those don't work. start over, install on your friend's computer. that'll be faster than trying to patch together a bootable OS.

Then reinstall drive in original Pc , enter Bios and select Boot Sequence and select CDROM as first Boot  and save and Exit.
Load Win 7 Disc in Cdrom and reboot , hit any key when prompted to Boot from Cdrom.

If still fails ? check Cabling to drives .

Vivalavonyon Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I wish I had good news for you -- but I don't ... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that error message means that your hard drive has failed. It will need to be replaced.Once you have the replacement drive, you will need to use something known as HP Recovery Media to restore your PC to working condition. This is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/driversOnce there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update". If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service: If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.h... Hello, I have this issue that has been going on for 3 months. It says that the boot device is not found and I went to the support page to try and reset but it just goes back to it. I installed the stuff I needed to on my grandma's computer and put it onto a flash drive but that didn't work. Can someone help me with this issue? It would be much appreciated, but if you can't, thank you for your time.-Louie Benavidez

I booted my laptop today and it gave me the "boot device not found" message. I ran the hard drive diagnostic check and the Short DST test fails every time with the Failure ID: 94J87X-6NV8B6-MFPWXF-60SF03. All signs I've looked at lead me to think that the hard drive needs to be replaced. I was curious if you'd be able to corroborate my theory and suggest the necessary hard drive for replacement. The product ID is E2R54AV. Thank you.
