I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Background: clone the entire contents of the HDD to a SSD with the aim to replace the HDD, including the OS.

After having cloned a HDD with Windows 7 laptop to a SDD successfully, and replaced the HDD with the SDD, resulted in a smooth boot exactly the the same procedure failed with a 2007 laptop Vista 32bit.

Procedure with support of the guidelines of the SSD Vendor (Sandisk):
1. Initialize SSD
2. Clone the entire HDD to the SSD
3. Replace the HDD with the SSD
4. Start the laptop.
5a. Result with a Win 7 laptop: OK
5b. Result with a Vista 32bit laptop: failed

Failure with Vista (I'm not that technical):

The BIOS indicates: no IDE device found.
When starting up, the message 'Operation System not found' appears

A major difference between the Win 7 and Vista laptop is the transfer mode of the (former) HDD and the new SSD: Win 7 had a SATA 300 installed, while the Vista has a SATA 150. The SSD is SATA 600.

What I did?
1) I created a ISO Vista 32bit file to get the laptop into the repair mode. This repair mode does not recognize a drive c: (checking out with the installed DOS).
So, i'm turning in circles. There is no way to get the internal SSD recognized.

2) When connecting the new SSD drive with USB to check the SSD status with the Computer Management/Disk Management tool, this is displayed:
The internal HDD (containing the system) shows: Healty (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition). The USB connected SSD shows: Healty (Active, Primary Partition). Further, the ... Read more

A:No bootable device found-please enter a new boot device

Try, removing the battery, unplug the device and holding the Power button down for at least 30 seconds. Re install the hard drive, making sure of proper connection. Replace battery and Power plug, go into bios and set optimized defaults. Then see if the hard drive is recognized. Try to listen and see if the hard drive is spinning up.

Hi there guys,

Originally i had windows 7 installed on my laptop and i had four partitions on my computer.

C - Windows 7 installed system,primary parition
D - logical partition - where windows xp was installed
E - logical parition - where my documents word files and so on
K - 160gb for applications to be installed (primary partition, system)

i installed windows xp on drive D after formatting and everything was working but when i installed easybcd to add windows 7 to boot...i encountered a problem. I cannot have xp + win7 together in the boot due to windows xp installed on a logical partition and its boot file is in a unknown primary partition. I Decided to convert Drive K to Logical and Drive D(XP INSTALLED) to primary. After my computer restarted., it brought up a new error saying no boot device(S) FOUND...

i ran windows 7 setup cd to repair but no operating system was found....i ran cmd repair typed in bootrec.exe /scanos - it found windows 7 then i tried bootrec.exe /fixboot - not working, tried /rebuildmbr computer restarted but same error. I Ran windows XP CD it said no installation sources available/found that means no harddrive. however windows 7 setup repair option i saw all the drives but i can't install a freash copy of windows on any of partitions.

Can anyone help me with this problem. what i have done wrong and how can i fix a problem like this...
thanks in advance

Asad

Sounds to me that you now have no system (boot) partition. If you can't fix this (mark one of the partitions "system" or "boot") with the Windows 7 installation DVD or the XP installation CD use a bootable partitioning program, such as GParted.

Working on a HP Envy M6 laptop. Getting the "no boot device found" error when booting. Only thing I can access is bios. Its a windows 8 preinstalled machine so I do not know the product key nor have an install or recovery disk.

I am able to access the drive when hooking up it externally to my win 7 machine ( had to save some files on the drive ).

Was only able to find a 8.1 install disc so I made a bootable USB to try and do a refresh. Still got device not found. Had to turn on legacy support in the bios. Detects the USB except repair isn't helpful. Tried the refresh and ...yep, hard drive is locked ( imagine because I am in legacy mode ).

So what do?
Legacy - hard drive gets locked
Non legacy - hard drive / usb not detected

Really stumped on what to do. Don't think I can downgrade to 7 either.

A:No boot device found

Means that the hard drive is either not working (ie no power, not installed, or just a dead drive). The other would be a blown IDE/SATA controller on the motherboard.

To resolve these boot device errors, perform the following steps in the order listed. If the computer still does not start, contact HP for assistance with this error.NOTE: If the notebook boots successfully after receiving this message running a hard drive test is strongly recommended. Reset the BIOS default settings. The configuration settings for the drive might have changed. To determine if this change has occurred and to reset the original configuration, do the following:To access the BIOS, turn on the computer and immediately press the esc key to display the Startup Menu, and then press the F10 key.Press F9 to reset the BIOS defaults, and press Enter to confirm the action.Press F10 to save the change and exit the BIOS, and then press Enter to confirm.Allow the computer to restart. Continue to step 3.Reseat the hard drive. These errors may occur if the computer has been jarred and the drive's connections are loose. To determine if this has occurred and to correct this issue, do the following:Press and hold the power switch for 5 - 15 seconds to turn off the notebook.Disconnect and reconnect the internal hard drive. Details on how to complete this procedure can be found in the Maintenance and Service Guide for your notebook mode. Go to HP Software & Driver Downloads web page.Once the hard disk has been reconnected and the notebook is completely re-assembled, attempt to start the notebook normally.Continue to step 3.Run HP Hard Disk Test. The HP Hard Disk Test may be ... Look for a sticker on the PC that includes the product number and post that here.  If the battery is removable, the sticker is likely to be in the battery compartment. Also, need to know what Windows version your PC is running. My desktop computer is experiencing some kind of boot up issue. I have a Dell Inspiron 3650 with Windows 10 that I just bought in March.
I'm not a tech savvy person at all, and I have no idea how to fix this issue.
My computer was working perfectly normal beforehand, and I was about to update and shut down my PC while I left the house for a bit. I came back home about 3 hours later and I saw my computer was stuck on 3% updating. This is where I'm sure I messed up because I know you're not supposed to force shut down a computer while it's updating because it can cause data loss. But foolishly I did it anyways because it just seemed really strange that it was stuck while updating, because it had never done that before.
I tried turning my computer back on but was met with the Dell Support Assist screen telling me "No Boot Device Found"... No matter how many times I tried restarting, it was that same screen showing up. I tried looking around to fix the issue myself and I read that I should run diagnostics to check if everything is working correctly. I ran diagnostics 2 times (I waited a couple hours) and it said "All tests passed" every time.
At this point I have no idea what to do. After looking around, I've been given the options of reinstalling Windows... but I don't have a Windows installation CD and I don't have another computer to download an installer to a USB. Im not sure what to do anymore... is my hard drive dead? Do I hav... Read more

Hi, Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive. Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated. Can you also post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your 15 series notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information. Regards, DP-K

If it does recognize the drive, have you run a full diagnostic on the drive?  F12 at powerup.

I need help with Boot Device Not Found. I've looked at the www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup and it didn't help me one bit. I went to the find my computer then I went to troubleshooting then to Startup and Shut down then clicked the Startup option. I found the hyperlink that said Boot Device Not Found and I tried all of the steps. For the first step I tried to force restart and I did all of the steps and it didn't work for me. It always came back to the black screen with Boot Device Not Found on it. The second one is just setting the BIOS back to normal settings and I did that and guess what. Nothing happened. The one after that which is testing the hard drive using the HP PC Hardrive Diagnostics UEFI. So I followed the video and it says to turn off your computer then turn it back on and click F2 repeatedly, so I did. I see text in the bottom left that says F2...PC Diags or something like that. So that looked promising so I waited and it brought me back to the black screen with Boot Device Not Found on it and when I clicked F2 again at that screen it doesn't bring me to the right thing. Then I was off to do Step 4 which is reseat the hard drive. I did that and nothing happened. So now I had only one more option and that was Step 5 System Recovery. I watched the video and I did as it says, which is turn off computer and then turn it back on and when you turn it on click the F11 button repeatedly. I did as told and it did the same thing as when I clicked F2, it took me back to t... Read more

JHP3595 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! I read your post about no boot device found and wanted to help. These problems are generally due to one of two basic problems:1) Failed hard drive2) Corrupted/missing boot loader filesAs to the first, please follow the directions in this link for testing your hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024If that confirms your drive has failed, then you need to replace it. Please report back if that is the case.As to the second, you will need access to a working PC for this step in order to create the media needed to repair your PC boot loader.Once you have that, please download and create Win10 install media from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit). While you CAN change these settings, do NOT. If you do, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!Boot from the media you created, and follow the directions in this link: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanced-startup-options-boot-windows-10-a.htmlYou will need to go to the Advanced Options screen and click on Startup Repair. Helpkyky Wish I had good news for you -- but I don't. That error message indicates that your hard drive has failed, so you will need to replace it. Ordinarily, I would recommend using HP Recovery Media to restore your PC to its original condition. That would erase the entire drive, format the drive, and install the OS, the drivers, and the HP utilities.Unfortunately, there is no HP Recovery Media linked to the HP Product Page for your PC. This could be an oversight by HP, or it could also mean that HP no longer stocks the recovery media for your PC.You can try contacting HP Customer Support directly, using the links below, to see if you can order if from them:If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!---------------------------------------However, HP Customer Support is generally not available on the weekends, so you might have to wait until Monday to contact them.---------------------------------------Good Luck

sudhanshukumar Since the PC passed the UEFI test, the drive should be OK -- which implies this is a Windows problem. You will need access to a working PC for this step in order to create the media needed to repair your PC boot loader.Once you have that, please download and create Win10 install media from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10Yes ...
