Unable to read my Sandisk Ultra SDHC 8GB camera card

Q: Unable to read my Sandisk Ultra SDHC 8GB camera card

I am unable to read my Sandisk Ultra SDHC 8GB camera card with my Sony Vaio VGN-AR21S laptop with XP Professional XP3 Media Centre Edition.

I thought the laptop should have a card reader slot but I cannot find one and when I tried the card with a USB adaptor it was not recognised.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Unable to read my Sandisk Ultra SDHC 8GB camera card

Found the following on the Sandisk website.

Other options you can use to read files on your SDHC card
If your computer's card reader is not SDHC compatible, you have 3 options available:

1. You can connect your camera (or other device) that works with SDHC to your computer using a USB cable that came with the camera. You should be able to transfer files to the computer this way.

2. You can contact your computer manufacturer to see if they have a free firmware update for your model that will make it SDHC compatible

3. You can buy inexpensive SanDisk SDHC card readers that will connect to your computer's USB port. Click to expand...

I have a small little card reader on the front of my laptop,
previously it's been able to read my card,
now it doesn't read it, well it kind of does but if I click to open it
it says to insert a card, it shows in My Computer but I can't access it
if I put any of my other cards in then they're read fine
i've even used other adapters and tried moving the card
but it doesn't work, also today for some unknown reason
there's now a pin on the card when it's in my phone
it has no un/lock slider on this card it seems the phone has randomly pinned it
I can't reformat it, it has stuff on there I can never get back
is there any way to fix the problem?

Hi All,

The SanDisk ultra 16 GB class 10 card that I use with my camera was working fine with my Lenovo Z50-70 (OS - Win 10) laptop till last week. One fine day it stopped reading the card and since then I have not been able to read the card transfer any files or pictures. The card works fine with other windows 7 laptops and my laptop is able to read other camera SD cards. Am at a fix here and I am wondering what can be the cause for concern here. I have formatted my Lenovo laptop and have reinstalled windows and its drivers from the Lenovo support site which obviously didn?t help. Any suggestions would be welcome.

A:Unable to read SDHC card in windows 10 laptop

I have a Lenovo B575 and my Card Reader stopped working as well. I fixed it by downloading an updated Win 10 driver directly from Realtek; however, I would check for an updated Lenovo driver first (which you may already have done).

good luck,

@YoannFromParis, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  When dealing with the issues from doing an update to Windows 10 there are a few things that may work to fix the issue. First thing to try is running the Windows Update Troubleshooter. The next step is to run the HP BIOS recovery to reload the BIOS to see if it will sync up with the operating system. HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS And if this fails to fix the problem, if you did the update to Windows 10 you can do the stand alone installation to see if it fixes any conflict. Download Windows 10 The other option is to roll back to the previous operating system until new updates get released by Microsoft and then uploaded on the HP support page for your notebook. Please let me know how things go.  Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

Hello everyone,

I'm having trouble with my laptop. It's an ASUS laptop running on Windows 8.1. I've had this computer for about a year now and have had no trouble before with having it pick up whatever SD cards that I insert into the port. However, a few weeks ago, I noticed that it will no longer read SD cards at all. When I updated to Windows 8.1 about 3-4 days ago, nothing changed. Cards still will not be read. I've tried 4 different SD cards before and after I undated windows. I've also tested the SD cards on other computers to make sure that the cards themselves were not faulty. {Which they are not. They are perfectly fine on other computers.} I've snooped through Disk Management on my windows and the SD cards will not show up on the list.

I'm hoping to get some help with this problem. Thanks in advance.

Any ideas why the 4GB SDHC might not be recognized by my computer? Might it be too large for my old HP Pavillion a320n?

A:Computer will not read 4GB SDHC card

It might be. Quite a few things won't read the SDHC cards. I'd consider looking for a card reader, maybe one that fits in a drive bay (floppy or cd) if you don't want anything external.

Hi.

I recently upgraded my Windows Vista 32 into a Windows 7 Ultimate. I'm not very tech savvy so I can't tell you details unless informed on how to. It's a Toshiba Satellite

Sorry, back to the topic, I have an SDHC card, and it worked fine, but I left it alone for a month or so and now I've tried to use it, and it won't read, and now my computer keeps making the sound as if I have inserted the card or a usb device into the computer. DO you think an upgrade may have messed with my computer?

A:Windows 7 SDHC Card not being read.

Welcome to SevenForums.

Since the upgrade to windows 7 might have not find any drivers during the process, i'll suggest you to go on the manufacturer site, searching for your computer model and see if there's any.

PS: Be more detailled about your laptop model, there's plenty of Toshiba Satellite!

Hi, I have a problem and I hope you can help me figure it out. All of a sudden I can't drag and drop songs from my pc to my mp3 player (regular panasonic mp3 player) I can do it if I use windows media player but if I try to do it manally like I used to, I can't. The same with my digital camera. If I connect my camera to the pc using the usb cable I wont be able to read or write or do anything. I will have to take the sd card out of the camera and stick it into the computer to actually manage the pictures. I've tried everything, from uninstalling the usb controllers to connect the mp3 player to all my usb ports and nothing works. If iI try to drag an mp3 file from the hard drive to the mp3 player I'll get this message: "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected" And if I try to drag a file from the mp3 player to the hard drive nothing will happen, I'm able to see all the files in the mp3 player but wont be able to copy them, yet, I can delete them... Anybody??? Thanks in advance

A:Unable to read mp3 player or camera from pc

Try having the device plugged into the PC before you start it up. You could also try to remove the device (and your USB ports/controlers) via the Device Manager, and then reboot and let everything be detected and reinstalled automatically.

Another option (sort of a last resort) is to attempt to format the drive (on the mp3 player), which may require special software from the manufacture of the player.

As a rule of thumb, you should make sure you stop these devices using the removable device monitor that will appear in the lower right corner by the clock when you have a device attached. This is to ensure that any data transfer to/from the devices is properly ended before removing the device from the PC. If you were copying a file over to the MP3 player, for instance, and just suddenly disconnected your USB cable, it could cause problems.

Although the page is relative to your model computer, just check that your reader matches the one they are talking about.

G'day all

[Mods - if this is in the wrong place, pl swap it around]
1st post to this site - so here goes ...

I have a bog-standard Toshy Laptop L640 running Win-7 with its many & varied auto updates and w- 500Gb HDD, partitioned into 6 drives of about 75Gb each

I am a photographer and use various drives for various purposes

About 4-6 months ago I started to have "problems" in exchanging photos from the SD card [placed in the Toshy internal SD card slot] to my D:\ drive\Photos

My SOP for many years has been to mount the SD card into the SD slot, Select All images, then Cut 'n Paste into a target folder on D:\ drive

4-6 months ago I started to get issues - sometimes I could not Cut 'n Paste - only Copy then Paste. Now I find that I can only get Copy & Paste and I cannot delete images from the SD card either

In My-Computer, Right-Clicking on the SD card Properties, then going into "ReadyBoost" [whatever that is], I see a msg stating that "the drive is mounted read-only" ... locked by Bit Locker [whatever the hell that it]

Q- does anyone know why it has started to plague me with this behaviour? and
Q- does anyone know how I can zap the bloody thing so that my SD card will operate as it had done for years

Thanks in advance ...
Regards, Phil

A:Issues with Bit Locker - It's locking my camera SD card as Read-Only

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Bitlocker only operates if you have Windows Ultimate or Windows Enterprise and is a way of encrypting your hard drive so as to protect your data should your computer go missing or stolen. It also prevents unauthorized people reading your personal data.

Check out this tutorial for unlocking it: BitLocker Drive Encryption - Windows 7 Drive - Turn On or Off with no TPM

You can also try the following:

Go into Control Panel and switch to Small Icons view then click Bitlocker Drive Encryption and see if you can turn it off there.

You mentioned ReadyBoost. ReadyBoost is a way of using a USB flash drive to assist a computer to improve performance where the amount of RAM installed is very low: typically 1-2 Gb. With today's RAM configurations of 4 Gb and upwards, ReadyBoost is no longer relevant.

Hi,

Just got a Canon Rebel XSi. I took a few pictures, took the memory card (I have a Transcend SDHC Class 6 8GB) out and was able to transfer them fine to my computer. When I put the memory card back in the camera I formatted the card (the manual recommend that this be done). Since I have done this, I have taken more pictures and my computer won't read the memory card at all.

Normally when I put in the card something pops up asking what I want to do. Nothing happens now and I can't find it anywhere.

I also tried putting the memory card in my boyfriend's computer and it didn't work either. We tried other memory cards and they worked fine.

What can I do to fix this problem?

Hi, I have a panasonic DMC-ZS7 LUMIX digital camera. I have been using the same two SD cards in it for a few months now. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 when installing a new Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB and now my internal SD card reader which I think is a Ricoh will not work when I insert a SD above 4GB, it works for smaller cards.  I have tried installing the drivers from the Lenovo KB and my Windows Troubleshooter says all drivers for that device are up to date.  One thing that I have noticed is that when I insert the card the Ricoh device pops up, but also responds with an uninstalled PCI Serial Port.  I do not know what device this is, but it doesn't show up unless an SDHC card is inserted and remains after I take it out, but when I do a restart it has disappeared and it is not there if I insert a 4gb SD card first.  Another thing I have noticed is that the card does pop up in the Disk Management utility, but it is unreadable.  I have checked the card on cameras and a friend's computer and know that it works and is not corrupted.  See pics below and the PCI serial port ID # and you can see my frustration... hopefully someone can help fix this issue, I need to read SDHCs for work all the time and would prefer not to have to buy a peripheral device to do the job...

Since other removable devices are working fine, group policy-like setting is not in use. And if you are using a microSD to SD card adapter, make sure the lock switch is not enabled; also make usre the lock switch does not enable automatically when you insert
it to the card reader (loose switches tend to show this behaviour).
If none of these suggestions able to solve the issue, take it to the nearest service center of the microSD card manufacturer and report the issue. The card will be replaced with a new one, since these memory devices carry a lifetime warranty. Refer the manufacturer
support terms and conditions about warranty claims for more information.Balaji Kundalam

In the first case, if you are using an SDHC card and an older computer, the reader may not be compatible with SDHC cards and may only support SD cards below a certain capacity.

In the second case, the reader may not be detected until there is a memory card plugged into it. If it is an older reader, it may not be compatible with SDHC cards. The reader may also require drivers be installed on the computer in order to function.

In any case, please give us the details of all the hardware involved and the version of the operating system running on your computer.

I have a Sony VGC RB62G computer with Win XP SP3. It will not recognize a 4GB SDHC card. Where can I find the drivers for the SDHC card?

A:SDHC Card

Hello and Welcome -A quick line or 2 on SD and SDHC complianceIf your computer's internal card reader works with 2GB (or lower) SD cards but fails to read a 4GB (or higher) SDHC card, then the computer's internal reader is not SDHC compliant. This same logic also applies to digital cameras, if the digital camera reads 2GB (or lower) SD cards but fails to read a 4GB (or higher) SDHC card, then the digital camera is not SDHC compliant.SD and SDHC specificationsThe initial SD card specification defined the interface for cards only up to 2GB capacity. The subsequent SDHC specification was developed to provide increased capacity of 4GB ? 32GB cards. Computers and other products purchased before 2008 may not be SDHC compatible. Computers and other products purchased before 2007 are not SDHC compatible.Verifying the card reader slotIf the card reader slot on your computer does not have the SDHC logo, it is most likely not SDHC compatible and will only read cards up to 2GB capacity.Other options you can use to read files on your SDHC cardIf your computer's card reader is not SDHC compatible, you have 3 options available:1. You can connect your camera (or other device) that works with SDHC to your computer using a USB cable that came with the camera. You should be able to transfer files to the computer this way.2. You can contact your computer manufacturer to see if they have a free firmware update for your model that will make it SDHC compatible3. You can buy inexpensive ... Read more

Hi, currently i'm very outdated since all I own is an Olympus SD card with 128mb memory which i've been using in my Fuji digital camera that i bought long ago.
see: http://www.shopping.com/Fuji-FUJIFILM-128-sec-XD-Picture-Card-DPC-128/info

At this time, the card has become pretty full, so decided to buy one with more memory.

But all I see now in stores are SDHC memory cards which look somewhat different than the SD card i've been used to.

The guy at the Walmart tech dept. couldn't say for sure if their SDHC cards would fit my digital camera, because my camera & SD card were at my house, and he didn't want to guarantee a fit, sight unseen.

Can someone please advise which current ones would be as compatible for my camera as the above linked one?

Thanks

I was curious about how to fix an SDHC card that has started telling the camera the memory card has an error and that it is locked. Then when you went to put it in the computer the computer won't recognize it at all either. I did a Google on this problem and the only thing I could find was about the little slide on the side that would lock the card.

That was not the case with this as it happened in the camera. We were at a Luau in Maui and the card went to 0 and said Memory card error. Not a nice thing to see when you have a couple days worth of pictures from Kauai and another couple from Maui. I then placed the card in the computer when we got back from the Luau hoping I could recover them from the card. No program was going to be able to recover them because now the computer will not even recognize the card when I put it in. I cleaned the contacts on the card with a Q tip to make sure they were not dirty but that still did not help.

I was curious to find out what people have done to get the card to work. I did come up with a solution but am just wondering what others have done.

A:How do people usually fix an SDHC card that has gone bad.

I am having problems downloading from a SDHC card.    In the past all I had to do was insert the card and the pictures were downloaded.   I'm now getting a pop-up on lower left corner of my screen that simply says SDHC.    I'm lost as to what to do.

A:Downloading SDHC Card

Upon the detection of a "removable" device, Windows can do a few different things. For example, insert a CD-ROM, and it will ask "open to view files", or "play music".In fact, Windows can be set to "automatically" do one of those choices. So, I think that, in the past, you had told Windows to automatically run some software to upload the pictures. But, that "default" seems to have been "lost". If you double-click that 'SDHC', does Windows pop-up a menu of choices? Is there a check-box to "automatically use my choice each time" ? If you open 'Computer', do you see a list of devices, e.g., 'C:' for your disk-drive, 'D:' for your CD/DVD,and maybe 'E:' is associated with the SDHC device?  Double-click on 'E:', and see what happens.

Hi. Im trying to get my SDHC card into my laptop. Its a HP Probook 650 G.

The thing is it doesnt "click" in when I insert it. And nothing pops up in Windows either to says its been recognized.

I've looked online and it says my laptop supports SDHC cards.

Are there like different types of SDHC cards or something? How do I know which one to buy?

I am looking for something that would allow me to take my SDHC card and transfer my pictures to my portable hard drive without the use of my laptop/computer. I'm not sure that there is such a device that would be capable, but I've been looking at Wireless Portable Streaming Devices but am unsure if its capable. Thank you for your time!

A:SDHC Card to Portable HD

What connectors does the portable hard drive have on it?
(brand and model would allow us to see the exact external drive you have)

You might want to consider buying a portable hd with card reader in it.

We just bought an 8GB SDHC Transcend micro SD card from amazon. I did not realize there were probs. I put it directly into my tower in the card slot and nothing pops up. If I put my regular old 2GB micro SD in the slot, it immediately pops up, but not the SDHC card. Is there a fix for this? Something I can download to make it recognized or did I waste my money and get a piece of junk? Please help. This was actually my son's money; he wanted this, and I did not realize there was an issue with these until I googled the prob and had tons of people's complaints pop up.

A:SDHC card not recognized

Your flash reader is not SDHC compliant. Many SDHC cards come packaged with a small USB adapter. The SDHC card is (likely) not junk.

I have 4 micro SDHC camera cards, a 64 meg, 2 gig, 4 gig and 8 gig. Problem: my computer will only read the 64 meg, via a adapter, and not the 2 gig and above. I can read all directly from the camera connected to the computer via a USB port. Whats up with this?http://b.tsgstatic.com/smilies/mad.gif

A:SDHC card reader

Is it an old computer ? Those SDHC cards have evolved to higher capacities over time but your computer's Bios may be too old to read the larger ones.

Hi

My name is Marath and I'm glade to find an amazing site as this.

Sorry about my poor English.

I've a problem with ready boost. It works with 4gb sdhc proline 200x class 10, so I've bought a 8gb precisely equal sdhc proline 200x class 10... and it doesn't work...I've tried all the formats in the card and...nothing works. I've tried a college 16 gb equal card and it works...

so 4gb works, 8gb don't and 16 gb works...why

I got myself a HD video camera some time ago, and now I just need to buy myself a SDHC card for it. It will be 16GB, and has to be Class 6 minimum. I am rather confused on which one I should really consider purchasing. I have uploaded the pictures, so anyone can go have a look at them. I managed to narrow it down a bit to the ones that have a lifetime warranty on them, and of course are Class 6. I would prefer not to spend more than 100NZD + GST on one if possible. Each of the pictures should be showing NZD and GST anyway.
Which would would be the best one to pick, and why?

A:What SDHC card to choose....

I don't know if it's my screen resolution or your screen capture; but, I can't read the specs.

First, I would be sure my camera will not exceed the card's write speed. From there, all that would matter to me would be its read speed. The slower the read, the longer it would take to transfer data from the card.

As for lifetime warranty, bear in mind that one year from now, that same card may cost half as much and two years from now, the cost of shipping it back for replacement will probably not be much more than the cost of a new one of the same capacity. Bearing that in mind I would not consider a lifetime warranty of any more value than a two- or three-year warranty.
