Lenovo Z510 Battery Issues Again

Q: Lenovo Z510 Battery Issues Again

Hi!2 years ago when I encountered the battery problem on my z510. I only learned about the solution only just last year, after a few months of the release of the said solution. Just a few days ago, it happened again. It started by showing that my battery is weak, then just yesterday, whenever I unplugged my laptop from its charged state, it will just automatically shutdown, just like what happened on my first encounter if the problem 2 years ago. I tried to use the solution, but what it shows is that the firmware of my battery is already updated. Is there any ways in which I could downgrade or uninstall the firmware? Or is there another solution for my problem? Thanks alot.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A:Lenovo Z510 Battery Issues

I have had this laptip for about 4 months and this started a week or so ago. I have stopped getting warnings that my batter is low, these used to occur at 10 and 7% battery life. This wouldn't be a big issue but the battery life indicator is not accurate. It shows at a constant 80+% and the next thing I know my computer shuts down for a low battery. Please help me fix this.

Hi all,  My z510 is a couple of years old now. Tonight it is refusing to charge and when it's attached to AC power the battery remains at 5%, while the icon looks like it's charging normally. I've restarted a few times and tried updating the battery firmware, but it was up to date already. I'm running the most recent version of Windows 10. Anybody know of a solution? Thanks!

Greetings! I have a Lenovo Z510 8GB Ram, Core i7, 1tb hdd, which I purchased less than a year ago. Off late I've been experiencing major battery problems. It started off with the laptop randomly shutting off without any warning, even though there was considerable life left, for eg. 90 pct or so. This became worse when the laptop didn't start up at all, until I plugged in the charger. The only way I can now operate the laptop is by connecting to charger, but the battery still remains at 0 pct, doesn't charge. The battery light keeps blinking red, Also, I have used an application BatteryInfoView to analyze this, and it says teh battery still has 83 percent of its original capacity, However I receive a message everytime on startup saying the battery is weak and needs to be replaced. What can I do about this? Thanks.

I purchased Z510 a year and 3 months ago, I really enjoyed it's performance and stability. but after installing windows 10, I faced the usual battery issue that most of the users here complained about, and I upgraded the firmware and everything went fine after that. but 2 weeks ago, I opened the laptop to find that the battery is 0% and it's plugged in but not charging, The Energy manger was confused too sometimes by showing me a message of "Unauthorized battery" and sometimes it detects the battery but it remains 0%. so basically I was working on a laptop with no battery after a while the laptop started to restart frequently, till the situation was unbearable. I sent it to the support and they told me that it needs a new battery and a motherboard and they will cost me more than 50% of the laptop price. I don't know what to do now? I'm really pissed from Lenovo support here in Egypt, they don't even know what they are doing and their first diagnoses was even wrong and I had to ask them for a second one to solve the frequent restarting problem. Any suggestions or recommendations?By the way, The restarting thing never happened to me while in Safe Mode, does this mean anything?, I already reinstalled the windows 3 times.

I have tried every conceivable fix for it from the forums here and none has worked. The problem that I am having is that the battery is stuck at 99% while charging and when it is off charge it will stay on for half an hour and the shut off hard without warning, it has caused me to lose progress in work. The battery gauge reset is no longer working either as it was on for hours and just kept showing 99%. I would appreciate a response back. This seems to be a problem with this make of laptop as far as Ican see.

My searches ended up here that I have to use the firmware update program that always say "there are no attached batteries that require a firmware update" so how about a real fix hah???

For those of you who are new to this problem or this is the first time, where this issue occurs please check out the following guide--->https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Lenovo-Z510-Battery-Issues/m-p/2248499#M138065        For the rest of us who are facing the same issue for the 2nd time, I have decided to write this post as I saw that there is many of us who have updated our battery firmware and we are still facing the same issue, plus Lenovo staff themselve have not update us on this issue yet. From here onwards, I am going to be addressing the issue based on my experience, so I had updated my firmware on March of 2016 when this problem occurs. After the update everything was working fine as usual until recently around this week or last week the same issue occurs again and again, which is quite devastating for me as I usually use my laptop for presentation.      I hope that Lenovo support team will be able to fix this issue as soon as possible, as I do use my laptop everyday, sometimes in an environment that does not have plug. Hi, I've recently installed an OCZ Arc 100 SSD into my Z510 laptop via a SATA caddy that replaces the optical drive. The advertised sequential speed of the drive is around 480 MB/s read/write however AS SSD Benchmark is informing me that I am getting just under 250 MB/s in sequential read/write.  Getting precisely SATA II speeds seems like more than a coincidence, however I thought that my Z510 is SATA III compatible. Any ideas on what might be causing my SSD to be capping at SATA II speeds? I really need the drive to perform at full speed as I am using my laptop for (intensive disk streaming) audio production. Thanks,Alastair

Hello! I am new to Lenovo and picked up my 1st laptop yesterday when my HP died. I have always had HP and grew tired of how easy they break & poor battery life, so I wanted to try a different band. I love the computer, the keyboard, track pad & screen are amazing. I bought the ideapad 320-15IAP for about $330 (Including tax) The specs at the store advertised 4.5-5 Hours of battery life, but I have not been able to get a charge better than 2 hours. For someone that uses my laptop at work and on the go, this will not do. Can any one offer up any advice? Does lenovo sell stronger batteries for ideapad that I can replace with this current battery?  My next issue is the Windows 10 update that you are forced to do, I have been trying to install it since 9PM last night, it is now 9PM tonight, a full 24 hours, and it has not fully installed. I have done my fair share of google searches and many people have had these same issues too, but no good solutions outside of deep computer hacking, I don't want to have to do that on a brand new computer. Thanks for any and all help!

Hi, I am having some battery issues with my Y40 laptop which I purchased in late 2014. It seems that the battery gauge reads 100% even though the battery is discharging and the power cable is not plugged in. I have tried completely draining the laptop and charging it again, when charging from 0% it does update the percentage correctly on the battery gauge. However, after I close the laptop lid and it goes to sleep, if I open it again, it reads 100% even though I know its not at 100%. Then it just dies after it discharges but I have no idea when to plug it in since I can't trust the gauge.Any ideas what could be causing this? I had a similar issue in the past and sent it back to Lenovo and they replaced the battery but could it really be the battery again after only 8 months of usage? The battery holds a charge fine, it just doesn't update the battery gauge on the taskbar properly it seems. I've gotta say, if thats the case, I'm quite dissapointed in this laptop . I read a bunch of the other posts online about similar issues but nothing specific to this laptop that has fixed the issue. I'm not sure what else to try and if there is something else I can do. Note that I am running Windows 10 instead of 8.1 which is what the laptop came with initially. Thanks for the help!

So recently when I turned on my laptop for whatever reason the battry just stopped charging for whatever reason with no warning. It had been working fine with no indication of damage beforehand and then the other day I plugged it in to charge it while I was using it but the battery started to steadily drain until it is now out of battery and cannot be turned on. The strange part in my opinion was that the laptop seemed to recognise that the power adapter was plugged in, as though it was charging but then it was just drained of battery. I don't know if it's worth noting that I just moved from Australia to Norway and so the plug is in the Australian configuration and I have just been using a European plug adapter on my laptop but I use them with every other piece of tech I own and haven't had any other issues. So I was just wondering:Has anyone else had this issue or recognises it?Is this more likely an issue with the battery or power brick? And does anyone have any suggestions?Thank you in advance.

Last September 2016 I bought a new Lenovo Yoga 3 PRO, I was quite happy with the battery life and the overall quality of the product. Now, 6~7 months later I still quite happy with screen, audio, materials... but not with my battery life. I give this computer use as home main driver for coding and web browsing, with some photo editing with Adobe Lightroom from time to time, nothing intensive that might heat up the computer on excess. I also try to give the computer "healthy" battery cicles, not leaving 0% battery for long periods neither leaving 100% battery plugged all the time. However, when today my battery seemed not to charge and have been experience shorter and shorter battery life over the last months, I was shocked when I saw on HWMonitor that my total battery capacity droped from 44.000 mWh to 14350 mWh. I could not believe it. Check here: That is too much battery loss for such a short period using my computer! Any idea of what I can do to fix this? I have just been unlucky and got a lemon with this computer? Should I send it back to seller?

I have a Lenovo G50.  It will occassionally act strange.  The battery will start draining while plugged in.  Can't stop it but the battery will drain.  Then the unit will just go off.  I got a replacement power cord.  Seemed to do the same thing.  Will get to the point where the red battery light is flashing, it's plugged in a tries to come up but then goes off again.  Left it to sit for a while and it then came up.  Only to do it again.  Then, I took the battery out and it came up with just the power plugged in.  Then another time went to the recovery screen and wouldn't come up.  Then did.  It's up now but I need to watch the battery icon to see if it starts to drain again.  Then fiddle with the cord and it seems to stop. What is it?  Battery bad?  Power cord connection bad?  I am on a brand new power cord now.

A:Lenovo G50 Power and battery issues

Hi Jeffskyhook,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can have your charger checked on a different machine to check if it is ok.
Remove the battery and connect the charger.
See if you would be able to use it with power and then wiggle the cable a bit to check the integrity of both cable and dc in port.

To check the operational charging of the battery, place back the battery and connect the charger.
Allow it to charge without turning on the battery for 1-2 hours.
The battery indicator should go from amber blinking to white to say that it still have viable charge life.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

I am having some problems with the battery on my Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13.  I have searched the forum to find a mountain of topics with problems similar but not quite the same.  I have also tried a lot of the suggestions to resolve the issue but none have worked so I guess i have to start my own thread. My Lenovo has been working fine (well has fine as could be expected with these machines) up until last week.   I had been using the machine in work without issue and put it into the car (fully charged) to take home.   When i went to use it again a couple of days ago I plugged in the charger as normal and turned it on, only to find it completely dead.   The power machine didnt turn on and the power button didnt illuminate.   My initial feeling was that i may have accidently turned the machine on while in the car and this had drained the battery.   I also thought that perhaps the power supply was faulty so I bought a new one. When i tried the new power supply it was the same result as the original, (not turning on and no illumination on the power button).    I went back to the original power supply, this time there was a fan noise (although the machine did not turn on), and the battery indicator flashed repeatedly orange (which i believe means the battery is below 5% and needs charging.   So i left the oringal power supply plugged in overnight to charge.   Next morning the battery indicator was still flashing repeate... Hey guys, Just fished an old G530 out of a closet and it's become my pet project. I've cleaned it up, installed some additional memory and Windows 10 x64. Having some issues with system's power, though. Initially the battery would not charge and the unit would only run on AC. After installing Windows 10, it now charges and can be used with out the AC adapter, but occasionally will shut down and refuse to turn back on. When it does this, the battery indicator flashes at me, so I can only assume this means it's died. It will do this at seemingly random battery levels, after a varying amount of time. I do not believe this is an overheating issue. Additionally, the charging cycle is almost 7 hours, and the unit dies in under 2. I have tried multiple batteries. I would like ot update the BiOS to 1.10 from 1.09, but I cannot find the unit listed as it is no longer supported. Any help or advice is appreciated, thanks!

Like right now its stuck on 99% when I know it should be less (Since i've been using it alot on battery)" These are the things I did:1. Reinstalled Windows 10.2. Disabled Lenovo ACPI Controller and Uninstalled Microsoft ACPI Battery Drivers.3. NEVER used Lenovo Battery Manager. Please tell me a possible fix other than Downgrading back to Windows 8.1.Thanks

Hi I own a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 12 i5 180GB laptop/2-in-1. Sometimes, the CPU fan will just turn off completely, especially when the CPU is under heavy load. I am a content creator, and I use this computer for the bulk of my encoding jobs. Sometimes, when I am rendering or encoding, or even just scripting. Also, the battery is only charging to 41480 mWh instead of the designed 47060. What is happening? i have owned this for 1.5 years.

Hi ThereI have lenovo Z510 and I'm really happy with it.But I have some isssues. 1st, it always had this problem from day 1. when it's on battery, it's performance goes really down (with every windows and high performance profile).2nd, it's some time that my battery gauge doesn't work well. it gets stuck at 100 and then suddenly goes to 0 and turns off.3rd, recently the battery is stuck at 0 and it doesn't get charged, while it says it's charging. battery led is always blinking red and the big problem is while I'm using AC adapter, yet it has low performance I mentioned in 1st isse above. so I can't run any big software and even have problems with web browsers...4th, a long time has passed since windows 10 has come and yet we have no battery manager or optimizer; especially fan dust removal and gauge reset could be helpful Thanks for reading,Best Regards, Amin

OK, I know you've seen a lot of topics with that title, but here's another one for you! Famous problems: battery goes from 100 to 0 in like half an hour, or it's fully charged and as soon as i unplug the charger, battery gone! I had these problems almost a year ago and I looked for solutions here and I found that firmware. It solved all my problems, life was beautiful again!Suddenly I realised that those problems are back again and since the firmware is already installed, I didn't find any solution this time.So I really don't how how to solve this one.

A colleague gave me his Lenovo Edge 2-1580 laptop to look at due to a charging problem he just encountered.  He said it started acting up about 3 weeks ago.  With the adapter plugged in, it quit charging (even though it registers as "plugged in, and charging").  He bought a new charging adapter, which did not fix the problem.  Then he bought a new battery, with the same results.  Then he gave it to me, and I am completely stumped. Both batteries are completely dead, with no way of charging them at all.  The laptop will run, as long as the charging adapter is plugged in.  I have tried every trick I could locate online, to no avail.  I might add, the laptop is not under warrenty, that ended on 2-20-17.  As a last resort, I did a OneKey Recovery, and took it back to factory settings, just in case some download may have affected it.  Still the same problem.  I am starting to think it is a motherboard issue, but as I said, it is out of warrenty.  Anyone have any ideas??  I have seen it change occationally from "plugged in, charging" (which is usually what it says, and isn't addressed that much online at all) to "plugged in, not charging" (which is talked about quite a bit).  But as stated before, all the tricks mentioned under those site, I have tried and nothing works. Would greatly appreciate ANY advise you could offer.  Right now it is a good paper weight that has to be plugged in all the ... I have purchased Lenovo Ideapd Z510 about 1.5 years ago. Installed Windows 10 via Windows update 3 months ago. My laptop was working fine until now. 1 week ago I was editing some document and suddenly laptop got switched off without any notification. It did not shut down rather it turned off unexpectedly. Battery percentage shown before tuning off was 70%. I tried to power it ON as well as used Recovery Key, but nothing helped. I plugged in the charger and noticed charge indicator was RED, which means battery is low. I turned on the laptop again and now battery percentage shown was 0. SoI decided to perform Gauge Reset using Lenovo Energy Manager which in turn will calibrate the battery.

After two days I though it is fine now. But I kep on my laptop for 2 hours and battery life shown was still 94%. I understood that wrong info is being displayed. I generated enery report from command prompt by powercfg -energy. Once I opened the report I was surprised to see tha Last Full Charge value is greater than Design Capacity, which is absolutely weird. Now it takes two or three hours to charge completely from 99% to 100%. And even after lsitening to music, surfing web and editing multiple documents at once battery percent shown never goes below 94% and thatbtoo it takes more about 2 hours to go from 100% to 96 or 94%.

Please help me. I want to know it related to hardware and particularly the battery or with the OS? Note that I have not installed any new application or pr... Read more

My laptop's battery has broken a little bit so I decided to regenerate it. I've installed fixed battery and everything is ok in except of that power manager still says that I got to replace it. It's imposiblle to get battery for Z510 in my country so It was only solution. I'm afraid of clicking "gauge reset" cause a lot of people say that "it can broke my battery" (My battery problems appeard when I did it).

To the moderator Majestic, please do not move this post as the previous post that had been mod to a Solved solution preventing the support team from be able to provide help for this issue. I had updated my firmware on March of 2016 when this problem occurs. After the update everything was working fine as usual until recently around last month the same issue occurs again.

I bought my Lenovo Y700 laptop last December and I started having battery issues around 6 months back. The battery randomly goes to zero even when the charge is at 30-40% and the charger is not connected. The battery of this laptop doesnt last more than 90 minutes even when full charged on moderate use(browsing/reading word docs). First raised this issue with Lenovo around July and did many troubleshooting steps but to no avail. Finally I ended up shipping my laptop to Lenovo depot for a week to get this fixed but even when the laptop was returned from the facility it had the SAME ISSUE!Called the customer care yesterday to ask for a Refund but they denied and asked me to send the laptop back to the facility for another repair. Horrible customer service. How is a customer supposed to keep sending their device back to their centers every other week? Asked the customer service people to escalate this to Customer Relationship team and they denied saying there system wont let them escalate the issue. They offered a warranty extension but then backed out of it saying we can only offer that when you send the device back to us. I cannot send the machine back without having a spare machine as it obstructs my work. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced.
