Lenovo Z510 Battery Issues Again

Q: Lenovo Z510 Battery Issues Again

Hi!2 years ago when I encountered the battery problem on my z510. I only learned about the solution only just last year, after a few months of the release of the said solution. Just a few days ago, it happened again. It started by showing that my battery is weak, then just yesterday, whenever I unplugged my laptop from its charged state, it will just automatically shutdown, just like what happened on my first encounter if the problem 2 years ago. I tried to use the solution, but what it shows is that the firmware of my battery is already updated. Is there any ways in which I could downgrade or uninstall the firmware? Or is there another solution for my problem? Thanks alot.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have had this laptip for about 4 months and this started a week or so ago. I have stopped getting warnings that my batter is low, these used to occur at 10 and 7% battery life. This wouldn't be a big issue but the battery life indicator is not accurate. It shows at a constant 80+% and the next thing I know my computer shuts down for a low battery. Please help me fix this.

Greetings! I have a Lenovo Z510 8GB Ram, Core i7, 1tb hdd, which I purchased less than a year ago. Off late I've been experiencing major battery problems. It started off with the laptop randomly shutting off without any warning, even though there was considerable life left, for eg. 90 pct or so. This became worse when the laptop didn't start up at all, until I plugged in the charger. The only way I can now operate the laptop is by connecting to charger, but the battery still remains at 0 pct, doesn't charge. The battery light keeps blinking red, Also, I have used an application BatteryInfoView to analyze this, and it says teh battery still has 83 percent of its original capacity, However I receive a message everytime on startup saying the battery is weak and needs to be replaced. What can I do about this? Thanks.

Hi all,  My z510 is a couple of years old now. Tonight it is refusing to charge and when it's attached to AC power the battery remains at 5%, while the icon looks like it's charging normally. I've restarted a few times and tried updating the battery firmware, but it was up to date already. I'm running the most recent version of Windows 10. Anybody know of a solution? Thanks!

i have bought Z510 one year back, within this short time i am facing battery problem.Battery is not charging and the system to be keep in plugged condition at every use.I am a home user and use laptop for limited time.I dont understand why lenova has not provided detachable battery which can be change by user only. Now new battery is not available in the market ,moreover Lenova is simply shedding their responsibility by saying Laptop in not under warranty.I request Lenovo to go for root cause analysis of this problem as hundreds of people are facing same problem in this model.Hope Lenovo would provide some software for attending the problem or atleast give the details of service provider from where battery can be repaired/replaced.

dear sir, my name is nikhil in my laptop z510 ideapad i am facing battery problem it is not showing correct battery % and also not show batterey low warning message and it is stable at one position 99% please sir help me out from this problem .many of them his having this same problem please give some battery firmware update so to resolve this problem.it is not a hardware problem because it started from two days before previously it is working fine but now it is not working          I purchased the z510 last  july and while the battery life wasn't great on it now it has stopped working altogether. I have tried every conceivable fix for it from the forums here and none has worked. The problem that I am having is that the battery is stuck at 99% while charging and when it is off charge it will stay on for half an hour and the shut off hard without warning, it has caused me to lose progress in work. The battery gauge reset is no longer working either as it was on for hours and just kept showing 99%. I would appreciate a response back. This seems to be a problem with this make of laptop as far as Ican see.

I purchased Z510 a year and 3 months ago, I really enjoyed it's performance and stability. but after installing windows 10, I faced the usual battery issue that most of the users here complained about, and I upgraded the firmware and everything went fine after that. but 2 weeks ago, I opened the laptop to find that the battery is 0% and it's plugged in but not charging, The Energy manger was confused too sometimes by showing me a message of "Unauthorized battery" and sometimes it detects the battery but it remains 0%. so basically I was working on a laptop with no battery after a while the laptop started to restart frequently, till the situation was unbearable. I sent it to the support and they told me that it needs a new battery and a motherboard and they will cost me more than 50% of the laptop price. I don't know what to do now? I'm really pissed from Lenovo support here in Egypt, they don't even know what they are doing and their first diagnoses was even wrong and I had to ask them for a second one to solve the frequent restarting problem. Any suggestions or recommendations?By the way, The restarting thing never happened to me while in Safe Mode, does this mean anything?, I already reinstalled the windows 3 times.

Hello guys, so I am here to address the same issue regarding about the battery problem occur on Lenovo z510. For those of you who are new to this problem or this is the first time, where this issue occurs please check out the following guide--->https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Lenovo-Z510-Battery-Issues/m-p/2248499#M138065        For the rest of us who are facing the same issue for the 2nd time, I have decided to write this post as I saw that there is many of us who have updated our battery firmware and we are still facing the same issue, plus Lenovo staff themselve have not update us on this issue yet. From here onwards, I am going to be addressing the issue based on my experience, so I had updated my firmware on March of 2016 when this problem occurs. After the update everything was working fine as usual until recently around this week or last week the same issue occurs again and again, which is quite devastating for me as I usually use my laptop for presentation.      I hope that Lenovo support team will be able to fix this issue as soon as possible, as I do use my laptop everyday, sometimes in an environment that does not have plug. Hi, I've recently installed an OCZ Arc 100 SSD into my Z510 laptop via a SATA caddy that replaces the optical drive. The advertised sequential speed of the drive is around 480 MB/s read/write however AS SSD Benchmark is informing me that I am getting just under 250 MB/s in sequential read/write.  Getting precisely SATA II speeds seems like more than a coincidence, however I thought that my Z510 is SATA III compatible. Any ideas on what might be causing my SSD to be capping at SATA II speeds? I really need the drive to perform at full speed as I am using my laptop for (intensive disk streaming) audio production. Thanks,Alastair

So recently when I turned on my laptop for whatever reason the battry just stopped charging for whatever reason with no warning. It had been working fine with no indication of damage beforehand and then the other day I plugged it in to charge it while I was using it but the battery started to steadily drain until it is now out of battery and cannot be turned on. The strange part in my opinion was that the laptop seemed to recognise that the power adapter was plugged in, as though it was charging but then it was just drained of battery. I don't know if it's worth noting that I just moved from Australia to Norway and so the plug is in the Australian configuration and I have just been using a European plug adapter on my laptop but I use them with every other piece of tech I own and haven't had any other issues. So I was just wondering:Has anyone else had this issue or recognises it?Is this more likely an issue with the battery or power brick? And does anyone have any suggestions?Thank you in advance.

Hi, I am having some battery issues with my Y40 laptop which I purchased in late 2014. It seems that the battery gauge reads 100% even though the battery is discharging and the power cable is not plugged in. I have tried completely draining the laptop and charging it again, when charging from 0% it does update the percentage correctly on the battery gauge. However, after I close the laptop lid and it goes to sleep, if I open it again, it reads 100% even though I know its not at 100%. Then it just dies after it discharges but I have no idea when to plug it in since I can't trust the gauge.Any ideas what could be causing this? I had a similar issue in the past and sent it back to Lenovo and they replaced the battery but could it really be the battery again after only 8 months of usage? The battery holds a charge fine, it just doesn't update the battery gauge on the taskbar properly it seems. I've gotta say, if thats the case, I'm quite dissapointed in this laptop . I read a bunch of the other posts online about similar issues but nothing specific to this laptop that has fixed the issue. I'm not sure what else to try and if there is something else I can do. Note that I am running Windows 10 instead of 8.1 which is what the laptop came with initially. Thanks for the help!

Last September 2016 I bought a new Lenovo Yoga 3 PRO, I was quite happy with the battery life and the overall quality of the product. Now, 6~7 months later I still quite happy with screen, audio, materials... but not with my battery life. I give this computer use as home main driver for coding and web browsing, with some photo editing with Adobe Lightroom from time to time, nothing intensive that might heat up the computer on excess. I also try to give the computer "healthy" battery cicles, not leaving 0% battery for long periods neither leaving 100% battery plugged all the time. However, when today my battery seemed not to charge and have been experience shorter and shorter battery life over the last months, I was shocked when I saw on HWMonitor that my total battery capacity droped from 44.000 mWh to 14350 mWh. I could not believe it. Check here: That is too much battery loss for such a short period using my computer! Any idea of what I can do to fix this? I have just been unlucky and got a lemon with this computer? Should I send it back to seller?

What is the best way to resolve a a faulty battery for a pc that is still under lenovo's warranty? Note* I never leave the computer plugged in after a full charge and only charge the pc once the battery is below 10%.  I ran a diagnostic check and it confirmed the significant drop in usage time as well.

I am having some problems with the battery on my Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13.  I have searched the forum to find a mountain of topics with problems similar but not quite the same.  I have also tried a lot of the suggestions to resolve the issue but none have worked so I guess i have to start my own thread. My Lenovo has been working fine (well has fine as could be expected with these machines) up until last week.   I had been using the machine in work without issue and put it into the car (fully charged) to take home.   When i went to use it again a couple of days ago I plugged in the charger as normal and turned it on, only to find it completely dead.   The power machine didnt turn on and the power button didnt illuminate.   My initial feeling was that i may have accidently turned the machine on while in the car and this had drained the battery.   I also thought that perhaps the power supply was faulty so I bought a new one. When i tried the new power supply it was the same result as the original, (not turning on and no illumination on the power button).    I went back to the original power supply, this time there was a fan noise (although the machine did not turn on), and the battery indicator flashed repeatedly orange (which i believe means the battery is below 5% and needs charging.   So i left the oringal power supply plugged in overnight to charge.   Next morning the battery indicator was still flashing repeate... A colleague gave me his Lenovo Edge 2-1580 laptop to look at due to a charging problem he just encountered.  He said it started acting up about 3 weeks ago.  With the adapter plugged in, it quit charging (even though it registers as "plugged in, and charging").  He bought a new charging adapter, which did not fix the problem.  Then he bought a new battery, with the same results.  Then he gave it to me, and I am completely stumped. Both batteries are completely dead, with no way of charging them at all.  The laptop will run, as long as the charging adapter is plugged in.  I have tried every trick I could locate online, to no avail.  I might add, the laptop is not under warrenty, that ended on 2-20-17.  As a last resort, I did a OneKey Recovery, and took it back to factory settings, just in case some download may have affected it.  Still the same problem.  I am starting to think it is a motherboard issue, but as I said, it is out of warrenty.  Anyone have any ideas??  I have seen it change occationally from "plugged in, charging" (which is usually what it says, and isn't addressed that much online at all) to "plugged in, not charging" (which is talked about quite a bit).  But as stated before, all the tricks mentioned under those site, I have tried and nothing works. Would greatly appreciate ANY advise you could offer.  Right now it is a good paper weight that has to be plugged in all the ... I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Z510. I got it around 3 years ago, and this year, I realized that it has been running quite slow, or slower than usual. Whenever I open a chrome tab, it would take around a minute to set it up and would lag a little when I open up multiple tabs.  This is the specs of my computer.http://tech.firstpost.com/product/laptops/ideapad-z510-59-387061-specification-348262.html So, I was wondering, if I were to add more ram to my computer, would it fix this problem? Would my computer speed up and will respond/act faster? I know that I have 4 GB DDR3 right now, 2 GB that is shared with the graphics card and my task manager says that I have only used 1 out of 4 slots. Does this mean that I have another 3 empty slots that can be filled with ram? Also, is there a maximum amount of ram my computer can handle? I have seen some people ask about it but have no idea about it. So, my real question, would it be possible to add 8 GB of ram? This means that I would have a total of 12 GB ram, and would most likely have 4GB, 4GB, 4GB of ram, 3 slots taken out of 4. If I have 4 slots. But if I have 2 slots, then could I add an 8GB ram, and would have 4GB and 8GB, still totaling up to 12GB?

A:Lenovo Z510! ABOUT RAM

Hi fwachee,

Welcome to the COmmunity Forums.

Yes you can add 8GB ram to your current 4GB for a total of 12 GB.

As per specification from your hardware manual (page 27):
 DDR3-1600/1333MHz SODIMM 2 (max 16 GB)

Two slot are physically available if you would open it up for confirmation as shown below.

This would definitely improve speed and memory utilization of your machine specially with multiple browser and virtual machine apps.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

Good afternoon all,

I have been in the process of making my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad T410, a much better device to use. While I've been having HDD issues, my main issue right now is the battery that I had purchased. With the IBM Power Manager software, the battery is listed as a Sanyo 42T4710. It is a 9 cell battery and I will provide any other information you need.

When I had first purchased the device, after charging for awhile the battery icon on the laptop would begin to flash amber. It will not charge to 100%, and usually stops at 96%. With the battery manager, the charge threshold is set to "Always Full Charge (Start when below 96% and end at 100%). I tried to run the battery gauge reset option, however the laptop permanently stayed at 96% and never discharged lower than that.

Are there any recommendations that you can make for what I should do with the battery?

Thanks!

Hi Lenovo Forum,I wanted to ask for help and advice on whether there is a need for my Flex 4 laptop to update its BIOS.It's my first time opening the Lenovo companion app that came with the laptop and I noticed that there is one critical update.  Here is the installation history: Here is the system info from the companion app Now my question is, do I have to update this or simply ignore it?Just to clarify, I'm not really a tech savvy person. I am unsure if this is safe or not. I read from other sites that updating the BIOS may have risks of bricking the laptop and make it unusable. So, I really need help if I should proceed with the update or leave as it is. The current situation right now is, everything seems to be working fine. I am near my warranty expiration. The only complaints that I have is that whenever I leave my laptop and set it to sleep by 11PM, I open it the next morning and the battery is all drained to 1%. This does not happen all the time, but for it may happen quite frequently. Here is my battery information And one other complain is that, even if I set it to sleep mode, sometimes, I do hear the laptop fan go really loud. I am also not sure why that happens. But I hope all my additional information would be helpful on determining if my computer has issues and if I do really need to update the BIOS. Any type of help would be appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT Upon checking this link:http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/flex-series/flex-4-1570/80sb/80sb000... It seems like I have dozens of things to update that doesn't even show in the Lenovo Companion App.Most importantly, this has the latest BIOS:BIOS Update for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Notebook0VCN25WW(V1.09) I am not sure what is the necessary version or required updates. This is quite confusing.

Hi, I purchased my Lenovo Yoga 710 about 3 weeks ago. My battery life is not very good at all. Right now, it is 81% charged, and says it only has about 3.5 hours left. What gives? Shouldn't I have at least six hours? Also, my fans are running constantly, and my brightness keys don't seem to adjust the brightness.

I bought my Lenovo Y700 laptop last December and I started having battery issues around 6 months back. The battery randomly goes to zero even when the charge is at 30-40% and the charger is not connected. The battery of this laptop doesnt last more than 90 minutes even when full charged on moderate use(browsing/reading word docs). First raised this issue with Lenovo around July and did many troubleshooting steps but to no avail. Finally I ended up shipping my laptop to Lenovo depot for a week to get this fixed but even when the laptop was returned from the facility it had the SAME ISSUE!Called the customer care yesterday to ask for a Refund but they denied and asked me to send the laptop back to the facility for another repair. Horrible customer service. How is a customer supposed to keep sending their device back to their centers every other week? Asked the customer service people to escalate this to Customer Relationship team and they denied saying there system wont let them escalate the issue. They offered a warranty extension but then backed out of it saying we can only offer that when you send the device back to us. I cannot send the machine back without having a spare machine as it obstructs my work. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

My laptop's battery has broken a little bit so I decided to regenerate it. I've installed fixed battery and everything is ok in except of that power manager still says that I got to replace it. It's imposiblle to get battery for Z510 in my country so It was only solution. I'm afraid of clicking "gauge reset" cause a lot of people say that "it can broke my battery" (My battery problems appeard when I did it).

To the moderator Majestic, please do not move this post as the previous post that had been mod to a Solved solution preventing the support team from be able to provide help for this issue. I had updated my firmware on March of 2016 when this problem occurs. After the update everything was working fine as usual until recently around last month the same issue occurs again.

Soo, I have seen a lot of posts about this issue, but none of them answered my specific question.I have a Lenovo ideapad z510 with i5-4200M processor and a 4GB RAM.I am looking forwards to upgrading my RAM to 8GB (I would like to insert another 4GB). I do realise that the laptop has 2 RAM slots and one of them is empty, but I do not know the specific measurements of the RAM card I should get (hight, width and thickness). Could anyone please inform me of the measurements of the RAM card I should get. I would  also gladly appreciate if someone could suggest a specific 4GB RAM card that would be compatible and would work nicely on my laptop. Thanks for any reply.

hi, until recently my fn keys would work as intended  - they would mute, increse volume etc. (i left them as default). but recently they reversed and f1 would be "f1". i checked other fourms and they said to go into bios, i did not change bios before this so how it changed by it self is still a mystery to me. When i entered the bios, it said that my hotkeys were already enabled, so i was confused as to why they were not working. i did a reset and it worked. Good. but today i started my pc again and my fn keys were reversed again!. and i did not touch the bios! tldr; my fn keys keey reversing automaticallyCan someone tell me whats going on? thanks
