Installing WWAN on hdr X1 Yoga 3rd gen?

Q: Installing WWAN on hdr X1 Yoga 3rd gen?

Hello, I am planning to get the X1 Yoga 3rd gen with the HDR screen, however, it seems the wwan is out of stock for it. So I am curious if I could just order the wwan separately and install it later, or, when can I expect wwan to be available with hdr? Thanks

Preferred Solution: Installing WWAN on hdr X1 Yoga 3rd gen?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,I am having problems with WWAN on X1 Yoga 2nd. Instalation by SCCM enterprise package. BIOS is up to date. But when I start Yoga it still shows Connecting to the mobile network, it takes about 5 minutes. After that I am online few minutes and suddenly I am disconnected. I am unable to connect back till restart. This I have to do more than 10+ times per day. I am issuing this on all Yogas (80+). Any suggestion?Thank you,BR Jakub

I have a model with WWAN card and a solderen-on RAM. I would like to replace the SSD with Intel Optane to speed things up anc compensate for lack of RAM, and add a normal 2nd SSD in WWAN port. Here's a photo of the port:It has the "B" key (6 pins on one side), so I am not sure if PCI is routed or not. I have tried to insert some old 32GB SATA drives and they were not detected by windows. Now, according to this (image) and some traces on the board, it actually has SATA lanes connected. Also, according to this, it should support both SATA and PCIe x2: So why does it not work? Is there a white list of some sort in the BIOS? If so, is it still possible to hack like on those old T40?

I purchased one of the pre-configured X1 3rd gen notebooks online.  Couldn't get wwan preinstalled.  Can i purchase said wwan card and install myself?  I heard the antennas for wwan are now built into the screen, is that true?  If so would I just need the card?  I hard it's a Fibocom 850 card, yet i can't find this to purchase anywhere (not even on ebay).  I hate the wwan on the 2nd gen, never works right and speeds are horrible.  Hopefully 3rd gen with this new model card is better (main reason for upgrading).  thx

A:Can you add WWAN to an X1 Yoga 3rd Gen?

HiThere migt be two antennas kit types in x1 yoga gen3 - WLAN only and WLAN+WWAN, depending on the laptop' MTM. The only compatible wwan card for this laptop is Fibocom L850-GL with Lenovo service p/n (FRU) 01AX786. Any other wwan cards, even generic L850-GL one without Lenovo p/n, will not work.

Why is WWAN NOT available with OLED in US store (https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x/Thinkpad-X1-Yoga-2nd-Generation/p/20JDCTO1...?)  WWAN is not available with 14.0 WQHD (2560 x 1440) OLED Touch display. While WWAN is mandatory for OLEDs in UK store (https://www3.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/x-series/Thinkpad-X1-Yoga-2nd-Generation/p/20JDCTO1WW...?)  14.0 WQHD (2560 x 1440) OLED Touch This display is only available with WWAN enabled I do want WWAN and OLED, but UK store seems to be much more expensive, and also I'm getting "Invalid configuration!" when trying to select OLED.  And 16GB option is only available for select configurations.

Is the WWAN slot on the side of my new Thinkpad Yoga 15 just for show?  I cannot seem to find out anything.  What kind of SIM card does it take?  What carriers would support it?  What would I tell a cellular carrier I need in order to buy service and plug a SIM card into it.  There seemto be as many SIM card types as there are snowflakes.   What is my IMEI number?  How do I find it?  I know I sound like a dweeb, but I'm really interested in being able to use this feature if in fact it is not just for show.  It would be SO nice to have anywhere cellular service when I travel.

A:WWAN on Thinkpad Yoga 15

Hello and welcome,

Not all TP Yogas have WWAN capability.  Most laptops and convertibles have a SIM slot since that's part of the basic structure of the machine but it doesn't necessarily mean there's a WWAN card installed.

What's your MT-M (machine type-model)?  It will look something like 20DQ007YUS - an example which doesn't have a WWAN card installed.

I purchased my Yoga 260 ThinkPad (i5) in December '15 from IBM website (USA).  Spoke with terchnical sale prior to purchase to verify that the unit had WWAN capability as stated in the many marketing releases.  I was told that it was LTE capable and Lenovo was waiting for the WWAN card availability.  About a month later I called to check on status of availability.  No specific date was given, BUT I was given an FRU # for WWAN card (00JT542) specific to my Yoga 260 model # (provided my exact model # to technical assistance).  I then ordered the card from IBM Parts online.  The initial ETA was February '16.  Finally arrived in June '16.  The arriving part was a  "Sierra Wireless Airprime  Model: EM7455"  Qualcomm card.  Just yesterday I went to install the card following instructions in the Yoga 260 Thinkpad user guide.  The SIM card slot/tray is functional and the WWAN fits nicely in the chassis (no holding screw though).  However, there are no attenae connections.  The integrated LTE functionality was the compelling reason for my purchase.  Of course there are other work arounds to get LTE, but had I known the unit wasn't capable with the integrated card, I would not have purchased it.   I'm not sure where to start to get response/accommodation from IBM.  Does anyone else have similar situation and/or suggestions on how to ... A:No WWAN capability for Yoga 260?!

Hello TD22, welcome to the community,

The user guides are generic and cover all possible system configurations, the same applies to harware maintenance manuals, and may feature options which are not present on your particular system.

The early Yoga 260s were not equipped with WWAN or WWAN antennae because at that time no international agency approvals had been received for the transmit and receive functions. Systems which are agency qualified may have WWAN integrated at the factory or be WWAN ready with factory installed antennae but no WWAN module.

Hello everyone, Just ordered an X1 Yoga with the OLED display and didn't see an option for WWAN or NFC cards on configuration although I see WWAN as an option on the model without OLED.  Is there a reason for this?  Can I add the antenna kit and card later?  Same question for NFC although I didn't see NFC as an option on either model. Thanks.

A:X1 Yoga OLED WWAN/NFC Questions

For unknown reasons, Lenovo appear to have stopped selling NFC on all X1 Yogas. The parts are still available from Lenovo Parts. The NFC antenna and NFC card are relatively cheap. The cable required to connect the NFC card to the motherboard is only available as part of a kit that is rather expensive - so if that cable is missing, it will not be a cheap upgrade. Previous posts on the forum suggest that Lenovo do not support WWAN or WiGig on the OLED version of the X1 Yoga. It is unclear whether this is a physical limitation (no room for the antennas) or a regulatory issue (unwillingness to qualify the OLED version for WWAN and WiGig). I would proceed on the basis that there is no way to add WWAN or WiGig to an OLED X1 Yoga.

I have an x1 yoga WWAN where SIM card occasionally not detected. This can even happen in the middle of an active LTE connection. Reseating the SIM helps but even without reseating if I run an AT!RESET to reset the EM7455 wwan card, it will start working again. I have not done any troubleshooting but would like to know what the most likely failure mode is:- Bad EM7455 card- Bad sim slot with a glitchy contact- bad solder job or other connection issue between EM7455 M.2 slot and SIM slot. I.e. how likely is it that replacing the EM7455 will resolve this? One other poster on this board had Lenovo come out and replace the entire motherboard but that seems drastic in my case as it works fine 95% of the time.

Does anyone have a 1st gen X1 Yoga that is cellular ready? Mine has been nothing but trouble.  Bought laptop at Microsoft Store in Stanford Shopping Center with my son on 1/7/17. I was told by sales person that the ThinkPad was cellular ready. Well, after spending two days on the phone with customer service at Microsoft, Lenovo, and Verizon I have learned that Microsoft's sales person lied to me about the X1 being cellular ready, Microsoft's extended warranty is worthless, Lenovo tech support and Verizon tech support know nothing about this machine or how it works. I spent 3 hours Monday and 5 hours Tuesday with tech support from each and no one has resolved my problem. After reading a few posts, I discovered that lenovo sells these with sim slots even though they are not cellular ready. What is the purpose of having a sim slot then? This is fraudulent. I'm returning the computer at Microsoft Store.

A:Thinkpad X1 Yoga (1st Gen, Oled) WWAN lie by Microsoft and Lenovo.

Good day and welcome to the community.
Sorry you're having difficulty.

In my personal experience, a ThinkPad that is described as cellular/broadband-ready has meant that it had a SIM card slot and that it had the appropriate broadband antennae installed, but did not have a WWAN card installed. That is left to the purchaser to do. One exception (there may be others) to that would be when a purchaser configures a ThinkPad on the Lenovo sales site, and selects the optional WWAN card. That machine would come as cellular/broadband-equipped, requiring only the customer's SIM card.

Again, this is my personal experience.

Entered the pin and everything works fine. In my network selection pane (the one to the right bottom in Win 10) I then de-clicked the mobile toggle because at home I use my wifi, which is faster and is free. When then restarting the notebook or closing and re-opening the lid the mobile toggle disappears and the cellular network says "deactivated" with no option to reactivate it. The only solution to again use my sim is then to reinstall all drivers which I found on the Lenovo site. Anyone know how to stop this weird behaviour? Thanks,Paul

Hi Everyone, My laptop is a 3rd Gen X1-Yoga, and it has Fibocom L850-GL Wireless WAN (WWAN) when I purchased it.  I recently performed updates using the Lenovo System Update, whereby, the latest version of the BIOS was installed: UEFI: 1.21 / ECP: 1.08 - Dated 25/Jun/2018 I noticed that my WWAN is no longer working. I decided to perform some troubleshooting and came to the following observation: 1. Shut down the laptop, disabled in the build-in battery via BIOS, and removed the back cover, and removed the WWAN card from its slot (carefully removing the MAIN and AUX antenna cables as well) - After completing this, and turning the laptop back on and going to BIOS:  I noted under the BIOS's I/O Devices Option - WWAN option appeared (I was able to either DISABLE or ENABLE it). 2.Repeating Step #1 as per above, I proceeded to re-install the WWAN card on to its slot (carefully re-attaching the MAIN and AUX antenna cables as well) - After completing this, I noted under the BIOS's I/O Devices Option - WWAN option disappeared - hence BIOS is not detecting the Fibocom L850-GL Wireless WAN Card (wierd). 3.Because of the above situation, Windows 10 (Professional, x64, v1803 - Spring Creators Update) does not give the standard Cellular Network Connections that you would expect when attempting to connecting to cellular data. 4. Hi everyone, I'm a student and planning to buy the Campus version of the Thinkpad T480s with the Nvidia chip. It doesn't come with a WWAN module, but I'd like to add one. Information on that topic seems sparse and I tried to look for M.2 slot WWAN modules at different online stores. I found a few ones, namely- Huawei ME906S, listed to be compatible with 2016 Thinkpads- Sierra EM7455, listed to be compatible with the *70 series Thinkpads- Fibocom L831-EA (Intel XMM 7160), listed to be compatible with *70 series Thinkpads According to this reddit, at least the Huawei and Sierra ones are incompatible unauthorized for a T480s which, if true, is simply inconvenient, annoying and disappointing. Hello, Just received this laptop yesterday and liking it so far. Trying to update as many drivers as possible which lenovo seems to make difficult with their own customs one. One of the drivers is the Intel HD Graphics one, which provides an error when i do a solution centre scan - forget this issue for a sec, apparently this is a false positive but is fixed by newer drivers. When I go to install the latest Intel VGA driver for my machine (updated 12/8/16), i get through the installation and then get an error message when it finishes up telling me the  "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the manufacturor" Of course when i go to install one direct from intel I also get this message. I'm not sure what to do from here? Why is the driver on the Lenovo website not recognised? The driver remains on an old version (now over a year old). Help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jack

Hello all. Recently I've been attempting to install Windows 7 on this laptop, and I've followed several threads and tutorials to no avail. I have a fresh copy put on a USB stick configured to FAT32 as specified. I followed instructions to access the F12 Menu, and the boot Menu does not give me the option to boot from the stick. I read something else about "pressing the Novo button next to the power button", but this just pulls up a system recovery program. I understand that there are some functions which may be lost, and drivers that need to be installed afterward, from what I've read. I really miss the good old days when laptops came with a disk drive and an ethernet port, and booting from a device didn't require a PhD in rocket science. Any help would be appreciated. Have an 11S that I am upgrading the SSD from 125 to 5oo msata. Had 8.1 now installing 10. When setup asks where to install the OS it shows no drives. I may need to add a driver to the win 10 disk before I burn it. Have 2 chipset options at lenovo support. both are exe files. Where would I add them? OR If I put them on a USB drive can I add them that way using the tool to add drivers within the install? When I put them on a thumb drive, I can not access them from the list of options to load a driver.

A:ideapad yoga 11s does not see new hard drive when installing OS

Can you see the SSD in the BIOS?

Hi. I'm wondering if it's possible to install/upgrade a graphic card for my Yoga 710 14ISK laptop, machine type model 80TY0056MX. And if so, which graphic cards are available for this model. As far as I can see it's only running on Intel HD graphics 520 integrated graphics. I have a intel core i7-6500U 2.50 GHz processor. I would like to run more modern games, but the fps drops even on low settings....
