After CCleaner Missing Itunes file

Q: After CCleaner Missing Itunes file

After running CCleaner I can no longer get Itunes 9.2.1 to run. I have no desire for the lastest Itunes 10. When I click on any Itunes icon, I cannot get it to open. I even re-downloaded 9.2.1 again and hoped it wouldn't lose my music. If offerd a repair option to find missing files and install new ones. That didn't help either. Will installing Itunes all over again cause me to lose my music? Would that do the job or would I have two Itune programs on my computer? It had been several days since I ran CCleaner and the files and original registry were not in the Recycle bin. Not sure if there would still be backups. System restore did help either. I am running WinXP and any help would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Look in your My Documents folder for a file or files called cc_20101207_072215.reg (the numbers in your file will be different).

These are backups of the registry entries that were deleted by the CCleaner registry cleaner.

If you have one or more of those files, double-click on them and it will merge the entries back into the registry.

Have you tried un-installing iTunes before you try re-installing it?

I believe I read somewhere that QuickTime needs to be installed in order for iTunes to run correctly. Something about QuickTime handling the DRM file protection and encryption/decryption used by iTunes.

That problem is consistent with file system errors on the C: drive.
Right-click the C: drive icon and choose "Properties", then click the "Tools" tab.
Click "Check Now".
Tick both options and click "Start".
Click "YES" to allow a sheduled disk check.
Restart Windows to invoke the disk check.

How long it takes depends on the drive's capacity and how much data is on it.

I am having trouble with iTunes suddenly. About 5 days ago I installed Ccleaner and ran it. Now when I run iTunes, it seems to be locking up. Using Ccleaner may not have anything to do with it, but I thought it worth mentioning. I did a registry backup when asked by Ccleaner if I wanted to. When iTunes did not work right, I performed the merge option to put those items back, thinking that that was the problem, but it continued. So I uninstalled iTunes from Add/Remove, removed the old download file from Program Downloads, downloaded what ended up being the new version, but it is still not right. It will go to the Music Store page, but after that, the progress bar just sits there and won't go to the links I have clicked. When I close iTunes, I then cannot even reopen it. I reboot, am then able to open it, but have the same problem. I opened Task Manager to see what it was showing. When I close iTunes the CPU usage display at the bottom of the box goes to 100% and in Processes it shows 97 I think it was. It no longer shows in Applications though. And as I said, I cannot open it again without rebooting. I have not tried System Restore yet. It is like the application is locking up. Please help me!!! Thanks!

I am trying to help someone upgrade their copy of iTunes (I think the version was something like 10.0.1.48) and when I use the built in upgrade utility (via the Help>Check for updates) menu, the download goes through, the upgrade appears to start off fine, but then it gets stuck and says a file it's trying to access is on a resource it can't get to. I did a search for "iTunes.msi" with the Windows search utility and found a few different ones on the hard drive. I tried all of them, manually browsing to each one to select it, but it would always tell me the file I selected was invalid.

I have googled around for solutions to this problem but it seems like something of an unresolved issue Apple doesn't seem to give two s***'s about. There is no "official"/supported solution, as far as I have been able to find. The closest thing I have been able to find was a link to some "Microsoft Uninstaller Utility", which is a long time deprecated program you can't download from Microsoft anymore.

Does anybody know of a better way to solve this problem? I would like to get their software updated while preserving all their music and authorization if possible. Thanks in advanced!

Hey! Hardly ever do I use CCleaner but I was bored and decided to use it. When I went on the registry tab I saw this:

I decided to fix it as I had never paid attention to that ever before (i never had had any problems with it) and basically a lot of stuff stopped working and I had to system restore.

My PC works fine now but those things still worry me as they still show up there, I tried Repairing Visual C++ 2012 and 2013 to their original state but these things still appear. Should I be worried? I know Visual C++ packs are no thing to play around with.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forums.

When you do a registry clean it's a good idea to save the backup .reg file when CCleaners offers it. That way you can restore the registry without resorting to a restore point.

I would try an old version of CCleaner to see if it shows the same results for registry issues. I used that all the time and only had one version of CCleaner with a bug. I was so confident in it I stopped saving the .reg backup and got burned. But like you I got out of it using a restore point.

My wife has an ASUS laptop running windows 7 home, 64 bit. She noticed it getting slower and slower and I thought let's start by running Ccleaner (latest version). It cleared out a lot of temp files and other assorted junk. Fine. I then let it analyze the registry and it came up with a bunch (sorry for the technical term) of stuff. I didn't see anything jump to mind offhand as being uh-oh, so I pushed the button to start the cleanup. I of course said to save the keys before deleting them and it created a file (cc_20161022_172350.reg) as it usually does. I told my wife not to worry, if something happened we could always merge it back in by right-clicking and choosing "merge". And then something happened to some of her stuff, so I said, "let's just put back everything we cleaned out of the registry and we should be good." No. When she tries to merge it back, she gets a pop up saying she needs admin privilege. Trouble is her account is an administrator account.

Anyone have any ideas why that should happen? Any other way I can merge the file back in? If I logon to my account on her machine (also in theory an admin account) can I merge it in? I don't think that will work, but figured I'd ask.

thanks for any help you can send my way.

Hi,

Thank you ahead of time for your assistance.

I have been previously infected with the IRS government warning virus. I am reasonably comfortable working with malware removal tools, and I thought I had all of the issues resolved. However, CCleaner keeps finding this file, C:\Users\Teresa's Laptop\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\M4HTU1IC\clients[1].txt 1 KB. Which when I locate it has literally changed before my eyes. Also, even though it shows as 1KB, the file shows only the number 1, and it disappears and reappears as I watch it.

I have also had a reoccurring issue with my Outlook cache becoming corrupted in this same folder.

I have as yet only found posts alluding to this issue, but no answers, and quite honestly, I am sick of trying to figure it out. I turned in my Tech badge a few years back, we were still using HJK, and I really hope that you can help me resolve this, and the odd things that happen now and then, I am assuming, due to this issue or residue or whatever it is.

Attached please find the DDS.txt file. I will be happy to provide anything else that you require.

Thanks again for your assistance,

Best regards,

Teresa

I'm sort of at my wits end with trying to solve this problem on my own, so any help would be much appreciated. Recently, I downloaded about 50 or so new songs via limewire. I have never had a problem with this before, and if a file does not play when I download it, I immediately delete it. I played my new music in itunes and had no problems. The next time I went to use my ipod however, a bunch of these songs were distorted (sorry I don't know how to explain it better...try to imagine listening to a song and then getting really loud speaker feedback, or as if the song was "skipping" and making an obnoxious noise while doing so).

The distortion is only present in selected songs from the 50 I downloaded, all of the other 3000+songs on my ipod are uneffected. I tired deleting these files off my computer and re-downloading, didn't work. I tried re-formatting the ipod, didn't work.

My next step was software that checks files for problems and repairs them, I downloaded MP3 Checker, which only found 2 bad files and I deleted them. Still the same problem with the other files.

Next I downloaded MP3Val which scanned all my music for file integrity and fixed all of the files that had any problems. Still this doesnt work.

So finally I go to the apple store and make them give me a new ipod (I have the extended warrenty).

Got the new ipod today...same problem.

I have around 2000 music tracks in iTunes on my PC, but I have suddenly been unable to play lots of them, instead getting an error message, accompanied by an exclamation mark (!) - "The song (xxxxxxxxx) could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" My music tracks have been playing just fine up to now, so I don't know what has caused this, nor do I know how to locate/resurrect them. The missing ones are very random, so I would appreciate if someone can suggest a cure for this problem. Thanks.

A:Missing iTunes Tracks

The only reason why that error message would appear is if the files for your missing songs were somehow deleted. To see if the physical files are still on your machine or not right click on each song that won't play & click on show in windows explorer. If the file appears on screen then there's a problem with itunes. If that doesn't work go to edit, preferences & under advanced it will tell you where itunes saves music you purchased or imported from an audio cd. Search that folder for your missing songs & if you can't find them then they may have been deleted & need to be redownloaded from the source you got them from.

I had previously installed Uniblue Registry Booster and I can scan my pc and remove all the bad files it finds and then run the Registry defrag and restart my pc and then I can access Itunes with little or no problem. This is very irritating and time consuming and I would like to find a cure for this without having to uninstall Uniblue. After all, I had to pay for the dang thing.

A:Itunes files are missing.

It is very possible that the registry "fixer" fixed your registry the same way a vet "Fixes" a puppy.

Did Uniblue back up the initial changes it made? If so, try restoring that file.

I would uninstall and not use a registry cleaner . . they seldom do anything good, and often do harm.

I have looked for the info as hidden, but to no avail. Does anyone know why this has happened and whether Itunes had anything to do with it? Or should I use some kind of recovery tool and look for the files? (I had purposely not used this drive since the dissapearance)Any suggestions welcome and thanks in advance!

I looked back over earlier posts on Tech Support Guy with this kind of uninstall/install problem and it appears that people were originally advised to use the Microsoft uninstall program (which appears to be unavailable now on the Microsoft website.)

At this point, I cannot even use my existing iTunes program. It's missing from my Programs list on the Start menu, yet I can see it in the Add/Remove programs folder under the Control Panel.

This is very distressing to me! Can anyone please help? Thanks very much for your assistance!

Hello,

I used iTunes to rip all my cds onto an external hard drive a while ago. I then upgraded to the latest iTunes, and having done so, iTunes reimported my music from the relevant folder. However, a huge number of songs (and I'm talking in the thousands here) are missing their artist and album info. I don't understand why this has happened when I used a previous version of iTunes to rip the cds in the first place. I've tried looking at the tags for these songs, but I don't get an option relating to ID3 tags when I right-click, so I can't manipulate that.

The only way I can see me fixing this is to manually important each album and type in the artist/album info. With such a huge number of songs to fix, I really don't want to do this! Suffice it to say I am not going to update iTunes again, ever!

Many thanks for any help you can give.

A:iTunes: artist and album info missing

I would check the files again with a tag editor like Mp3Tag to see if the data is there or not. If the Artist and Album tags are still there then you should be able to rebuild the iTunes library.

If the tags are missing you might be able to update the tags from the filenames with Mp3Tag if you have a consistent file naming convention.

I have about 2000 tracks missing, but I have them elsewhere on my computer. I'd like to add them back, but if I just import them back into my itunes all the playlists that have those tracks in them won't work anymore. Any way to get them back in as the same tracks they were before so that the playlists will continue to function?
Unfortunately the filepaths are very different so I wouldn't be able to just run find and replace in the library.xml. the tags are completely identical, though... there's got to be a way!

I recently installed internet explorer 10 and it was so buggy that I reverted back to IE9. Unfortunately, afterwards although everything else seems to be okay, when I opened itunes, although I still have my music listed in there, I no longer have my podcasts or my playlists. I do have everything on my ipod nano. Everything is also still showing up in windows explorer music file but I can't seem to get it back into itunes. Dragging, syncing, reseting is not responding. Apple has been no help. Any assistance appreciated.

Hi everyone,

I recently downloaded itunes 8 to my Toshiba laptop, running Vista, and now the CD drive is missing from the device manager. I have run the service pack 1 update, deleted the upper and lower registry filters, and uninstalled itunes. These are the only fixes I have seen published anywhere, and none of them have worked for me.

The drive is appearing in the BIOS, so I know it's not the drive itself that's the problem.

I can't download any drivers for the drive because it's not in the device manager I don't know what model it is without physically removing it from the laptop. Any ideas/clues for how I can fix this?? Getting very frustrated!

Hi, something strange is happening with my iTunes taskbar icon.

Sometimes when i mouse over it will show me player control icons (prev, play, next) but a lot of the time it won't. It seems to be completely at random, irrespective of what's or what song is selected in iTunes.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be?

Cheers

Have you downloaded "iTunes helper" or something similar?

Download this;

Malwarebytes

and run a FULL scan. If it finds anything, post the log here.

A:Windows 7 64bit unable to file missing file in Hijackthis log file

It's doubtful those files are missing. More likely a bug still present in HijackThis where it cannot correctly enumerate some entries, so it gives a (file missing).

I would not put any faith in online analyzers such as that one. Much better to use these online databases

www.systemlookup.com
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/filedb/

There's nothing wrong with any of those entries. Please leave them alone.

Analysis logs are only to be posted in this section of the forum, not General Security. I've moved it here.

I see no sign of infection in those logs. If you think the machine is infected...

Hi guys,

There are 2 issues I am trying to resolve at the moment one which has been ongoing and triggered a clean reinstall to try to resolve and the other that has occurred since the install.

Firstly,

I am having trouble playing HD files in iTunes. Playback is stuttering and freezing during HD playback but not SD. Previously it was both but now the SD files are playing without incident. CPU is being taxed to 100% during playback. New memory module has been installed due to faulty one being identified after reinstall of OS.

I am running alienware m15x (first version, so coming up on 3yrs) with windows 7. Although the computer is getting on the components are still nearly top of the line performance wise. There is a blueray drive installed and other HD audio therefore I would be very confused to see it was the specs that were the problem here. See end of post for specs. Please let me know if you think they may be causing any issues.

Secondly,

After the reinstall I moved all my iTunes purchases to an external hard drive to prevent loss. However I have noticed that Lost Season 3 is only showing up as Lost in the TV Show Library. I have tried manually managing the iTunes folders and creating a new library but neither has resolved the issue.

Does anyone know how edit the files info through the library files, it appears they can be opened in a web browser but I couldn't find the right place to edit.

Hi Newby here

Due to my switched off brain I recently managed to delete my intire OS. But as I wanted to tidy up my system this incident just sped up the tidy up process.

What I am missing now is, I think it was on this here forum, that there was a post regarding a neat PC programe ???.exe that located all music files on the pc and linked them to itunes. Which was really cool it saved me hours of folder for foler relinking the external music files to the itunes music library.

If anyone recalls or bookmarked this post I'd be greatfull if you could direct me where to find it again. I had book maked it but sadly due to deleted HDD the bookmarks are also gone.

Hope someone out there can help. Thanks
