HP Pavilion HP windows reset WITHOUT admin username and pass

Q: HP Pavilion HP windows reset WITHOUT admin username and pass

I recently purchased a used HP Pavilion on craiglist. Unfortunately, the computer is full of bugs and viruses (ie pop ups and virus warning messages). In order to to clean the PC (ie remove files or download malware protection) I need admin username and password, but I don't have that and the gentleman I purchased the computer from does not know either.

Ive attempted to research methods to reset the computer and all methods have failed because I need admin credentials to reset the computer.

Is there a way to reset and erased the computer to its original factory settings? I also read I may need to buy a CD or download a rest to a cd or usb on another computer. Is there a reputable website to reset or refresh that is cheap or preferably free

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Having recently (today) inherited my company's IT support role (Without any real training / qualifications ) I'm coming across a number of small issues, one of which is the following:

All machines at my company are independently managed by their own (local) Administrator account, across the board the Username and Pass to access the Admin account is the same... except for a single machine.

It seems this machine has a differing password to the other machines, unfortunately the previous administrator is no longer contactable, I however require access to the administrator account. To the best of my knowledge he didn't set-up a Password Reset Disk either.

I've read about various 3rd party tools which can enable the resetting of the Administrator Password but am loathe to try them without first hand confirmation of their validity etc (On my head be it and so forth)

Is there any method to determine what the Admin pass may be, or should I plump for a 3rd party tool to aid in the resetting of the pass? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for which to use?

If it makes any difference, the machines are networked to a Mac Xserve server - though as I understand it, I wont be able to access locally stored passwords through the server itself?

Many thanks for any light that can be shed upon this issue

Strange and hopefully small problem -

(From a remote desktop session) I changed my windows username (ex from kurt to dan) I didn't change the password.

When I rebooted the computer, the new username dan appears, but when I enter the old password, it says "incorrect password".

So I switch to other user, and type in kurt (old name) and pass, it works and logs in - but shows my new name dan in the start menu etc...

I don't think the remote desktop session had anything to do with it.

I just wanted to change my username from kurt to dan, but something went wrong somehow..

Thoughts appreciated

The firm in which I work has a Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. There are two user profiles on the computer, the admin and another normal account without administration rights. We have only the password of the account without administrator rights.

The network administrator had left the company surprisingly in without giving the administrator password of the PC and we cannot contact him anymore.

Now we want to install another programme and we cannot do this without an administrator account.

I disabled secure boot and have tried to boot the PC with an Linux USB Stick, but it do not boot from the stick.

Any suggestion how I either can reset the password of the administrator account or create an new account with administrator rights.

A:Windows 10 admin password reset or new account with admin rights

Although there may be techniques to recover a lost password it is forum policy that we do not discuss these here - your best bet would be to visit a local security specialist and get them to recover/reset it for you - and a change to the policy for the replacement admin may be a good idea, I always wrote a list of all passwords and stored it with the Managing Director and also in a fireproof safe

I have a desktop, and a laptop, both running XP Pro. I can get them set up to where I have an identical account set up on each one(in other words, there is user1/password1 on the desktop and user1/password1 on the laptop, identical). This works fine, the two machines see other and can share, etc. I am just wondering if there is any way at all to get around XP's requirement of having to have identical accounts on the two machines? I.E., is there any way to make it so there is an account on the desktop, 'desktopuser/desktoppassword', and from my laptop, on a DIFFERENT user account, 'laptopuser/laptoppassword', connect to the desktop's shares by entering the 'desktopuser/desktoppassword' when prompted?

I hope that question made sense. It's just a pain in the *** having to have matching accounts on every machine you want to share.

A:Trying to have two XP machines share with each other without matching username/pass..

You shouldn't have to have identical accounts, actually you can't have identical accounts. The SID will still be different.
If both machines are visible to each other now, then all you have to do is attempt to access a shared file or directory, and you should get prompted with a username and password. You will have to type in computer\username and password (pay close attention to the direction of the slash). This is the remote computer wanting user credentials of a local user who has permission to access the files or directory you are trying to get to.

Desktop has share
Laptop wants access
From Laptop attempt to access share
Once prompted, provide username and password of local user for desktop
Now from Laptop you should have access to share on desktop
and vice versa

Hope this helps.
Good Luck

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Hey. Out of all of my computer experience i have never heard of or seen this problem.

I downloaded windows upgrade advisor on my laptop and ran it. It said that I was able to run windows 7. So i installed it using usb because my laptop only has a cd drive, not a dvd drive. After installing it and it prompted me that it was going to restart and it did but when it came on again, it skipped all of the setup process such as entering username, computer name, password, my preferences for updates, and product key. it went straight to a screen asking me for a username and password......... i never created one so it's kind of difficult to get past that screen. haha.

i never altered installation files or anything I just used diskpart to set up the usb drive and then just transfered the files diectly from the windows dvd to the usb using another computer. =\

Any help would be greatly appreciated. =P

Thanks in advance!

A:Clean Install never asked me for username/pass/product key etc..

Thats not a regular win7 disk. Its a modded one, probably with an answer file (autounattend.xml) that did all that work for you. Even in 3rd party tools like RT7lite theres an unattend option that automates steps like user creation, product key and regional settings.

Hi Yet again, Windows is frustratingly taking up all of my time and I have tried everything google has to offer to try and fix it but it seems like no one has screwed up as much as I have on whatever forum. Let me explain the problem: I'm trying to set my account to administrator because I can't install programs, change account settings, make any changes through CMD without getting the system error 5 access denied message and I can't set the administrator account through CMD either. I also don't have the permission to change anything in regedit and I can't even reset my pc because it requires an administrator password which I don't have, is not "nothing" nor is it administrator or admin or password and I can't change it through cmd either. I can't even access the administrator account because it is disabled and even with an elevated cmd I can't activate the "hidden" administrator account. I've ran malwarebytes and superantispyware and I am now looking for the Gandalf of all Geeks to help me solve this problem. I'd immensely appreciate it!

Hello, I'm new here. Found the forums via searching for my problem. Yes, I know it's listed on the forums several times, but none of those solutions fix my problem.

All I need to do is reset the admin password on my computer. I only have a limited access account. I have tried every available program on the net. None of the linux based ones will see my hard drive, even with the correct drivers. The hash getting ones say the password is too secure to unscramble.

I do not have access to another machine, nor can I use my burner because i dont have access according to windows (limited account). So some of them I can't use because I can't make a bootable CD. However, I did get a friend to make me 3 of them, including the emergency boot disk and it crashes near the beginning with some kind of resource conflict.

Is there any other way short of formatting? I really don't want to have to do that. I also don't have any Windows XP cd's. Perhaps I can get ahold of one. I know I can install xp in another dir and logon to that install via recovery console to replace the sam file with the one from the repair dir. I just don't have access to a windows XP cd at the moment. Was hoping there was something I haven't tried yet.

If there is any way anyone knows of to change a limited account to admin status that would work also. That is really all I want to do, give myself admin on my own computer. It used to be that way but... Read more

Hi, if you had the same irritating problem as me then read on
When I bought my PC with XP preinstalled the main admin account was "user" and I was new to XP 6 months ago so took a few days to get used to it but after a few days I renamed the admin from "user" to "mark" but noticed that my documents folder was still named user, try renaming that folder and it won't let you, I honestly nearly got to the point of reinstalling xp (bear in my I wouldn't know how) I googled for solutions and all I got where mad suggestions which seemed far beyond my knowledge but glanced through an old mag today and my prob was solved if you do it create a restore point as always, open regedit, then "Hkey_local_machine", then "software" then "microsoft" then "windows NT" then click "currentversion" and click the keys "registered organisation" and "registered owner" to change, job done, no probs for me and I hate messing with settings good luck and hope i've helped someone

A:Nice little Tip R.E. admin username

Create a new user in User Accounts in Control Panel called Mark (Administrator privlidged)
Log off, then log on to the new user - Mark

This will fix your documents folder to:C:\Documents and Settings\Mark\My Documents

The Windows registered owner can be changed by many tweak tools, or by the manual registry editing (Warning manually changeing/editing the original installed owner name can stop some programs from working or updating, including all Security updates (that have the original installation name attached)

I see "User" commonly on newly installed Windows computers. I've always preferred "WindowsXp" (no spaces) on an Xp install; and "Vista" on a Vista install.
User sounds horrible, not sure why many companies use this as the standard install logon name.

I'm afraid we can't help you to circumvent restrictions on a computer, as whilst your query may be genuine, we have no way of knowing. I suggest you get in touch with the school that the computer came from and get them to format it.

I have recently ran into an issue that is probably not too uncommon but I am having issues with. I currently forgot my password for my admin account on my laptop that runs on windows vista, i have looked up ways to bypass this issue and have ran into some issues along the way so first i looked up a password rescuer online but figured that i would have a hard time running it because my pass is more than 14 characters long. i also tried to run a system restore on it for an earlier time before i changed the password that i have currently forgot but an error keeps coming up due to a corrupted file on my c drive. all i want to do is gain access to my admin account so i can back up the files that are precious to me so i can run a factory restore on my computer then have it running clean again. Anyhow, I looked online for some other ideas and im currently reading and looking into ways to bypass the admin account by using a sticky keys trick the windows vista password or offline enabling the built in admin account on vista. The trouble that I am having is that i made it to where my files were viewable and accessable only through the admin account, does that mean they are encrypted? also would doing these tricks possibly delete my files or make them unaccessable? i also dont have a vista or windows setup dvd could i possibly do anything to bypass the admin account to keep my files, without the dvd? thank you so much, i know im in one heck of a pickle any help is very appreciated.

I recently got a hand-me-down Dell 6400 Inspiron Laptop from a company I work for and unfortunately, it's inaccessible with an admininstrator password that was set by a former employee. I've made several attempts by going into "safemode", but it is still giving me the same problem only this time, it has the previous person's user name and administrator link. I tried going in without a password using the administrator icon, but it's locked also and requires a password.

It's a little difficult reaching the person who used the laptop before me because I don't have current contact information. It's been frustrating for the past two weeks but I would like to resolve my situation on my own before I suddenly have the urge to give up and take it somewhere or to someone to fix it.

Any response to my inquiry is greatly appreciated and thank you for reading my message.

OK guys, here's one for ya and so far none of my techie friends have come up with a solution.

I have an Acer 2012 WLMi laptop that unfortunately took a drink across its keyboard. I have purchased a new keyboard but unfortunately it does not work, all I can assume is that I fried the bridge.

I am unable to plug in a USB keyboard because I don't have administrator privileges, when I try, I am asked for the admin name & password, neither of which I can remember.

When I boot up, I get to the welcome screen and because I can't use the keyboard to log in as myself, I have to log in as a guest. When I then try to plug in any USB hardware, I'm told I don't have sufficient privileges.

I can't help but think that knowing Microsoft's cavalier attitude towards security, that there must be a way around this. Unfortunately neither my techie frinds nor I have found it yet.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated but please bear in mind: I CANNOT USE A KEYBOARD!

Thanks in anticipation.

A:Admin pass bypass - no keyboard available

Unfortunately we cannot assist you with bypassing the administrator password. The username would be administrator (unless you changed it) and the password defaults to no password unless you set one when windows was installed.

I've never been prompted for username/password when installing a USB keyboard, just plug it in before starting your PC up and see if it works (can you get into the BIOS with the USB keyboard?)

I can't log in to windows, if i try it just logs out right away.
Same in "safe"mode.

I found instructions how to solve this here:

Oh...What to do?..
I really want to avoid reinstalling xp and all that hassle..

I work as a personal assistant for an older gentleman who has an HP desktop he got at Best Buy running Vista. My own pc has XP and my ability to help him is limited by the major differences in OS.

We think his pc may have been compromised by a botnet. I believe I have removed the files they were using, but one problem remains. The administrative account bears his name; however, there is another name, "rachel", which appears to be appended to or substituted for his name in various places. For instance, there is a "C:\users\rachel", but some of the contents thereof are his own desktop and so forth. When I go to control panel\user accounts, the only profile listed is his own, under his name. It seems that I cannot remove the user rachel without removing his personal data.

There is another file, (I believe it's) "C:\users\rachel\local settings\apps\roaming" which contains a lot of shortcuts to apps he has never heard of.

What I wish to know is, is there one central place where I can change all references to "rachel" or "boss's name/rachel" to his name only?

I would also like to make sure that the username rachel has no permissions for anything and no further access. If it were my computer, I would simply sit in front of it teasing out the tentacles and looking things up when necessary, but I don't think he wants to pay me for the hours that would take. I'm afraid Vista is sufficiently different fro... Read more

My daughter-in-law was using my older laptop and changed the admin password but cannot remember what she changed it to.  My grandson needs to use it for his homework but we cannot connect his printer without an admin user account to provide authorization
for installs.  How can I recover or change the admin password?

1. I downloaded a trial version of I See Password Windows Password Recovery Pro and want to know if there is another software or method tha can reset the password better and easier. 2. Also I am using a HP 15-f033wn laptop and cannot seem to boot from a bootable CD/DVD ROM. I've changed the boot order but still the bootable CD/DVD will not boot In the older days one would use +/- to change the order. 3. Last question if the BIOS supports a bootable USB flash drive does the flash drive have to be bootable or created with a bootable OS or software like Linux ?

Hi all,I hope someone might have an idea on how to proceed here. Im working in a company where the IT department is run by the 3 Stooges and hence the overall "service" is more like a free theater show when interested in wasting time.Having said that, I have my work laptop at home with full Admin Access and my own user profile. The laptop is a HP 640 G2 which was set up via fingerscan for me to log on (into the user profile). Since this laptop (which i also dislike alot for various reasons) stopped accepting the fingerscan (and subsequently fingerscan turned out to be fully broken hardware wise) Im not able to log into my User Profile. The password that has been set up for it was done once as out of requirement when we got them but never used and hence forgotten. The IT department has no clue or idea how to fix this remotely but I have the full access of the computer with admin rights, im able to go manually into my user profile folder and so on, so my question is, how can I reset the password? In theory, I should be able by going into Control Panel and User Accounts but my user profile is not on the same domain as the admin access and the userprofile is not listed within the user accounts.Admin is based on the computer domain name (like lpw1234-/admin) and my user profile is on the "office" domain, which by default required just my username with no previous domain name (like office/user).Could someone tell me how I can reset the user password for that profile? Thanks alot... Sounds to me like the entire situation is the responsibilty of the entity IT dept.  It possesses the means, at the very least, of just providing you with a system...or changing profile passwords for you.  Since this is the property of a business entity...with an IT department...it's up to them to resolve it.
My two cents...
