Q: Where can i buy a SSD with 256gb for Lenovo U300S

Hi everyone,I need to know, where can i buy a SSD with 256gb for Lenovo U300S? thanks.

Preferred Solution: Where can i buy a SSD with 256gb for Lenovo U300S

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad U300s which has died, and of course I don't have current backups. I figure the SSD still has my data, and thought I'd just pull the SSD and read it on another computer, but I don't know what kind of adaptor I need to use. The SSD isn't in a typical hard drive case, it looks more like a memory card with a series of chips, but instead of edge connectors that go into a bus slot, it has a connector to a ribbon cable on one end. You can see a picture on page 58 of the hardware manual: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_%20u300_u300s_u400_hmm_1st_edition_oct_2011... Does anyone have any hints on how I could read this data? Feel free to chastize me for not making backups :-)

Hi there. Your computer uses a Mini PCIe SSD. If you want to retrieve your data, you will need to buy a Mini PCIe SSD adapter to USB. There are many options for such on Amazon, eBay, etc.

Is it possible to upgrade SSD 256GB to SSD 512/1TB or replace Optical Drive with SSD?

Read other answers

I work with an enterprise company who are suddenly experiencing a large amount of failures with these machines which have these ssd drives. They often fail with a BSOD and on the follow up boot will hang at the windows logo after POST. The hanging will persist indefinitely thereafter. According to the Lenovo Security Advisory: LEN-15217  ( located at https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/lt/en/product_security/ps500118? ) this is a known issue which can be mitigated by upgrading the firmware from L10P to L15P. However, when using the provided solution (FWSD26), one will notice that this part# is not supported. No firmware upgrade is possible with this device. -- SSDSC2KF256H6LSSS0L25071L10P and below Update the Intel 5400s SSD firmware to version L42P (180/240/480GB) or L15P (256GB) using the package at the following link: https://support.lenovo.com/downloads/ds038904This raises many questions. Do you have plans to revise the firmware upgrade tool to include this part#? Perhaps it was just missed by accident? Or was there a reason this firmware upgrade was neglected from being included for this specific part#? You include All other Intel SSD Pro 5400s models except for the 256gb.. Why? Please advise.

Does anybody have any idea where to purchase a replacement SSD for a U300s? Have not seen any other laptop using this type of a connector. Any help is appreciated.

A:U300s- SSD

hi gr8bear,
Upon looking the U300s' specs, it uses a 7mm, 2.5in SATA HDD. You will need to get a 7mm, 2.5in SATA SSD for the upgrade like this one:
Vector - 7mm Low Profile SATA 3 2.5" SSD
My bad, this is for the U300 not the U300s.

Not guaranteed to be working at your SSD, but worth to try. Please do this method on your own risk.  A few weeks ago my U300S ssd was half dead.Started with constant 100% disk usage and slow performance, then suddenly Windows fell into BSOD. I tried to restore and clean install Windows several time without any success; unable to format the ssd (somehow it was hard-locked).I came into conclusion that this poor thing was gone completely, so i should build a custom made M.2 ssd adapter. Look here: Custom U300S SSD adapterBefore this ssd is completely dismantled, i tried to BAKE it first. Nothing to lose anyway.(I had several good experiences with dead VGA and it worked nicely after i baked it.)The idea is similar with reflow, without any special tools. Do this simple steps.1. Take the ssd out from the laptop. 2. Unwrap the aluminium foil completely.3. Clean the ssd with isopropyl alcohol thoroughly. Make sure no glue or dirt or impurities on the ssd chip/pcb.4. Prepare the OVEN, pre-heat with temperature around 220 Celcius. Electric or Gas oven just the same.5. Use aluminium balls  or cup as support. Do not put SSD directly on the pan !! (see picture below)6. Put SSD into hot oven, let it baked for 8-9 minutes. And then turn the oven off.7. Open the oven door a little bit, let it cool down slowly for around 30 minutes.8. Re-wrap the SSD with aluminium foil and try it on your U300S. Done. Here the results. No more 100% Disk Usage.&n... Read more

Hi there, Llewh -
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.
I think these steps might work.

Go to the upper right side (corner) of the screen to bring out the charms menu and go into PC Settings.
Click on PC and Devices.
You should see something related to mouse or TouchPad.
If there is an option, you can disable it.

You can also try these,

Go to Control Panel.
Click on Device Manager.
Find and Click on Mice and other pointing devices.
Select the MousePad and right click on it.
If there is an option then DISABLE it or click on PROPERTIES.
Go to the Driver tab and click Disable.

Update us how it goes.

Hello!I recieved (very) used Lenovo U300s from a collegue for 'repair and restore'. Apparently she wanted to try out Linux, and in the process she wiped out the hard drive. After realizing, that Linux does not suit her taste, she asked me to return it to (ioriginal) Windows 7 or 10. And now comes the hard part. The laptop does not come with COA sticker - neither on the underside, not inside (I checked the inside of cover and under the battery). Of course the laptop came without any recovery media, and the owner absolutely ignored making backups. Is the key lost, or is there still a way to retrieve it? I talked with her, and she seems ok with possibly updating to Windows 10, but I still need (I think) to install even for a while genuine Windows 7 to reserve Windows 10 key. Is there any other way to install directly Windows 10 that's genuine? What can I do now?

A:Getting Windows 7 back on U300s after complete wipe

hi Vatharian,
Welcome to the Forums.
If the U300s came preloaded with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit as listed in this datasheet then you will need to do the following:
1. Download a Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit ISO (you can get this on the net) or if you can't find a Home Premium version, any Windows 7 64-bit ISo should do and just create a universal Windows 7 installation disc (see this guide).
2. After getting the ISO, follow this guide on how to create a bootable Win7 flashdrive and use it to install Win7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit on the U300s. If successful, Windows will automatically read the product key in the motherboard and will activate your copy of Windows.
Once Windows is installed, you can view the product key using this guide (see Options 2 to 6)
3. After Win7 is installed and activated, follow this guide on how to upgrade to Windows 10 (see Step 3) then activate it.
You will need to the procedure above to get an activated copy of Windows 10. If you perform a clean install of Windows 10 on first attempt. you will need to start over from the top (unless you have a retail key to activate Windows 10).

Nothing I've tried has let me get into the bios to set my USB stick as the first boot option.  Using the small recovery key button on the side of the notebook which normally boots the notebook to the screen where you can choose which drive to boot does the same as the power button. There is no bios flash screen or abililty to press any keys before getting to the grub screen.  I've drained the battery and left over night hoping this would reset the state it seems to be stuck in but that also did nothing.  Here is a short video showing what happens when I boot the notebook http://youtu.be/2FpC2Deuawk

I have read that the normal drive erase is not a good idea for SSD's. I have also read that most SSD manufacturers should have a utility that will allow you to force it to flush deleted data. Does anyone know if this is available thru Lenovo. The SSD controller is a Jmicron but I did not see any utilities on their website.

A:I want to change my 256GB SSD for 1TB

You are doing just fine, ma'am.  I actually have a very similar laptop, the Zbook 15 G3 and mine came with just a hard drive and I have since added an SSD and an M.2 mSSD to it and a video card so I am familiar with what you can do and how you should proceed.  Here is the Service Manual: Manual See the diagram on page 41. The dark rectangular thing is a 2.5 inch hard drive or solid state drive, SATA interface and the thinner rectangular thing to the left of that with the image showing how to turn the screw imposed over it is the smaller M.2 type hard drive:  Your laptop takes either the SATA variety M.2 mSSD disk or the PCi-e (NVME) kind. On that all you need to think is fast (SATA) and faster (NVME). So the two Sandisk options you ask about represent examples of either the bigger dark thing or the smaller drive. If you replace the smaller drive you are going to have to reload the software onto it. If you just add one of the 2.5 inch drives you can just stick it in there and use it for storage and move your documents, pictures, etc. onto it. That is the setup I have. My OS is on a 256 gig NVME M.2 and then I have a 500 gig SATA 2.5 inch SSD for storage. Plenty for me, but you feel you need 1 TB. So, moving on, the issue for your adding a 2.5 inch drive is whether HP provided you with the mounting hardare which you would need to install the drive. Since my laptop was delivered with a 2.5 inch drive, it included that hardware. Since ... Read more

A:Kingston 256GB USB

Hello Anandwadhwa, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could, but you would have to break into 32GB partitions (3 primary (Dk. Blue) and the rest logical (Lt. blue). You would start off by shrinking the 256GB drive (256-32=224*1024=229376) by 229376 MB leaving 32GB. Next, keep shrinking each one by one leaving 32GB per partition. (1GB=1024MB).

You will also not be able to have file's that are 4GB+ in size on a FAT32 partition.

Hope this helps some,

I think I may be OK, but I want to look into getting a larger drive in the time being in case I end up actually filling up this drive. I honestly never expected to do this!

What do you think are the best 240/256GB SSDs that are only 7mm thick? that's the thickness I need in order for it to fit in my laptop.

A:Best inexpensive (but fast) 240/256GB 7mm SSD?

I would recommend getting one of these:

Newegg.com - Corsair Neutron Series GTX CSSD-N240GBGTX-BK 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Newegg.com - Crucial M4 CT256M4SSD1CCA 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) with Data Transfer Kit

The first one is a little more expensive, but performs way better. However, the other one includes a SATA to USB so transferring your files from you old SSD will be a lot easier.

I have 128GB SSD as boot drive C:/ This drive continues to be a nuisance, because I cannot get all new installs to use custom locations I request. The SSD drive contains the boot and registry and is drive is full.

I bought another 256GB SSD to replace it. I plan for the 256GB drive to be boot drive of C: after I install it.

Maybe some type of clone or image of the 128GB SSD is the answer to this. There should be no problem with the OS, as the OS is registered to this computer.

My concern... I have two additional drives on the system where the 128GB SSD resides. The amount of applications and files is over 2.6 TB. The registry is a principal concern, since it is currently residing on the 128GB SSD drive. Just moving the contents of the 128GB SSD drive to another folder doesn't look to be a best way to do this. I don't plan to alter or change the current HDD arrangement, in order for registry pointers to be intact when I reinstall the OS.

I have never done a clone or image process, but it would seem this could be a solution. Reinstalling all the applications that are on the additional HDD will take a lot of time. I say reinstall, because if I cannot somehow get the registry right in this process I will have to reinstall the applications.

Yes, I am guessing I could make a clone or image of the 128GB SSD and store it on one of the HDD and then recover it by some method onto the new 256GB SSD drive. It is a sort of exact duplicate with more space. I have n... Read more

Hello and welcome,
Where is it not recognized?  Boot menu, BIOS, OS installer, cloning tool, somewhere else?  If it's an OS installer, what OS?

I recently got a tablet with only 256GB of storage which is adequate nearly all the time; but, I would like the added convenience of an additional 256GB for the tablet's in-built MicroSD slot. I'm looking at this card with an advertised write speed of "Up to 90MB/s". (Yes, I know that is only burst rate but others are rated only 10- or 20MB/s and I assume those pitiful speeds are also burst rates.)

So, my question is whether there are 256GB MicroSD cards that are faster? (So far, I have found none.)

Hello everyone,

Can someone tell me what is the make and model of the 256GB SSD disk in the Satellite S50-B-15E laptop Toshiba ships with? The product information is pretty good except the SSD which is a shame...

I know the SSD itself will definitely be better than a HDD but I still would like to know what Toshiba puts into this model. Is it 3Gb or 6Gb SSD model?

What make is the SSD: Toshiba Q or anything else?
I own a couple of SSDs in my PCs which are great but I like to know what I buy.

A:Satellite S50-B-15E - Details of 256GB SSD drive needed

As far as I know the Satellite S50-B-15E was equipped with a 256GB M-SATA SSD drive.
The notebook was equipped with the Mobile Intel HM86 Express Chipset and this chipset supports 4 ports with an SATA 6Gbit performance.

Unfortunately I did not find any further details about the mSATA SSD drive but I guess if the chipset supports 6Gbit, the SSD drive should be able to support this speed too.

Nevertheless, if you found some more details about the SSD drive, an feedback would be appreciated

I was looking at buying a new computer that could handle medium games, but I couldn't decide if I should go with the 256GB SSD which would be faster or the 1TB HD which is cheaper and has more storage. As I don't know much about computers I thought some with some knowledge about these systems could help. Thanks!

That's really a question for you. Do you want the much faster speed or do you need the much larger storage space?

If you currently have a computer, how much space are you using on it?

I just bought a Yoga 130-131KB and just found out I can't move all of my info from my old laptop, not enough storage.  Best Buy told me I could swap out 256 GB for 500 GB  (Samsung 500 GB  V-Nand SSD 970 EVO NVMeM.2).   I called Lenovo and they told me if I did this my warranty is null and void, they didn't tell me if this would work or not.  Has anyone done this, does it work?  Will it ruin my brand new computer?  If  someone has done this then I will do it, just want to get feedback.  Thank you.

Hi all,

Simple query from me!

I've got a Lenovo T410s with a 128 gig SSD & I want to create an image to then put straight on a new 256 gig SSD.

I've tried Macrium Reflect (paid for version), but when I then put the drive in, it doesn't boot.

Macrium only lets you select 1 partition at a time, so I tried going through it selecting the system drive, then the O/S drive (C), then the D Drive (data) and then the Lenovo recovery partition, but still when I remove the 128 and boot from the the 256-no joy.

Help please!

A:Clone existing 128Gb SSD to new 256Gb SSD-How hard can it be??

Where are you trying to put the temp image? in order to clone you need to store the IMG file on an external drive or connect both the source drive and the dest. drive to the same machine.
Is it possiable you try cloneing on a machine that you can connect both of SSDs togther (like a desktop)?
