Solved: Lenovo Ideapad Z470 SD Card Reader Not Working

Q: Solved: Lenovo Ideapad Z470 SD Card Reader Not Working

I've got a new Lenovo Z470 with Windows 7 32 bit.

When I put an SD Card in the slot from my camera nothing happens.

The card doesn't show up in My Computer.

I've looked on the Lenovo website for drivers but can't find anything specific to this problem.

Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a 100s -11IBY running Win 10     I have been using a Samsung 64gb Micro sd card formatted NTFS.and has been working ok and I have stored data.   Recently the built in card reader no longer recognises the card or makes any sound when I insert or remove the card.   The card reads as a Fat 32 on my desktop and now has no data stored.   I have tried other cards which I know are working with in the built in cars reader with the same result. In divice manager on the 100s the SD Host controller lists 3 identical host controllers  and state divice is working properly.  Same with the SD storage class contoller.   I have tried updating the drivers in both and it says the best driver for your divice is already installed .  The 100S is about 4 months old   Please help

Hello Everybody , I would really need your help to figure this out ! yesterday, I used my card reader in my laptop ( ideapad 500-15ISK ) and I entered and SD-HC 4GB card on it , and copied some files. Then after it , I had a Memory stick Duo like this one : ?of course it was smaller than the slot, I thought I might try nevertheless ! ( I hope that this wasn't a bad idea and I burned my card reader !!! )  of course , it didn't work ! so I just removed and forgot about it ! today, I was trying again to put the SD-HC 4GB card,  and it didn't work, and I tried another one , it didn't work.I tried installing all the drivers in the support.lenovo.com that has to do with my laptop, still didn't work.  Anybody knows what could have happened ? What should I do ? did I damage my card reader ?  My laptop is relatively new, it has been only 4 months since I bought.

Hi! Seeking for your help. I have a Lenovo Z470. Apps run slowly so I decided to upgrade its RAM from 2GBx1 to 4GBx2. However, only 1 4GB ram works. BIOS shows that 8gb is detected but in the Computer Properties, only 4GB is shown. I've tried swapping RAM slots but still only one stick works. By the way, here the RAM specs I'm trying to use for the upgrade: 4GBx2 (SO-DIMM 1333 MHz DDR3. The processor is Intel i5 2410M. Also, after upgrade from 2GB to 4GB, my laptop's performance became faster. But after a week, it slowed down again. I also noticed that the laptop overheats. The fan does not continuously spin and is making noise. I am thinking if updating the BIOS (currently Lenovo 4ACN33WW, 05-May-11) would fix the issue. However, I can't find a BIOS update for Windows 10 64-bit.

Hello there, I'm new here, but I own this laptop for quite a while. I have been using the SD card reader with windows 10 in the past, but since I reinstalled my windows (and the drivers) the card reader will not work. Anybody else has this problem or a solution for it? Edit: I forgot to mention that I also tried to manualy install it by pointing to the .ini file from the DrvBin64 folder, but it said the folder does not contain a compatible software driver.

Hello. I have a Lenovo ideapad 100s - 80R2 that I just bought a few years ago. The device is running Windows 10 Home, build 1511. I have recently bought a Sandisk 32GB microSDHC card for use of the built-in microSD card slot of the device. When I tried to insert the card into the slot, there was not "Hardware Insert" notification sound coming out of Windows. I thought the card wasn't working. When I managed to insert the card into a USB microSD card reader, the system was able to detect the card, so it means it's working fine, but the microSD card isn't. I tried to find any updates for the SD card controller of the device, but it says it's already the latest version. Any help?

I have a SONY VAIO VGN-FZ140E and am running XP pro SP3 (32-bit). I use my laptop only at home and use it to connect to the internet using WiFi.

The problem could be because I tried to be a "wise guy" sometime back and was messing around with the services and maybe ended up either disabling some service or setting it to 'Manual'.

I wanted to request if there is some utility which will do the following:
Reset all services to the default settings
Save the current status of services (in the form of HTML or Text file)
Is there some place where I can see what the default AND recommended settings are
BTW, I think the related services are follows (for the card reader problem) and am listing them along with the current settings (in case the information may be useful in trying to solve the problem):

Smart Card (Automatic)
SSDP Discovery Service (Automatic)
Universal Plug and Play Device Host (Automatic)
Volume Shadow Copy (Automatic)
Windows CardSpace (Automatic)
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (Manual)
Intel(R) Matrix Storage Event Monitor (Manual)
Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service (Manual)
Protected Storage (Automatic)
Will appreciate help.

Device is: Akasa AK-ICR-01 Internal Card Reader.

See PC Specs for other hardware. Running XPSP2.

I can plug my digital camera's USB2 cable into the USB2 port of hte Akasa card reader and a G: drive appears in explorer to allow me to navigate the photos on the camera's card.

However, if I plug the SD card directly into the Akasa card reader then no G: is displayed and I have no way of exploring the card.

Am I missing some drivers? should I have an install CD?

I have a folder:
"H:/Program Files/Multimedia Card Reader/"?

In it, but nothing else. If I try to run the InstallSQ.exe then I get a missing dll (ldamfilt), so it may be that I don't have all the files I need...

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am interested in dual-boot a Linux distro on my computer using an SD card. My idea is to plug a sd card into the reader and directly run a Linux on it (my laptop has only 128GB, so I won't partition my SSD due to limited space). I read another post about another Lenovo laptop about booting using SD card, and one of the comments points out that Lenovo laptop connected the SD card reader to the PCIe and not USB, so that booting from SD card is not possible. Is this the same case on my Ideapad 320-15IKB laptop? I hope I can run Ubuntu on a 128GB SDXC card.  I tried to confirm the SD card reader is whether connected to the PCIe or USB through the device manager manu. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the card reader in the device manager. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.Jonathan

Hi everyone! The card reader on my newly bought Ideapad 700-15ISK doesn't work properly while it detects the inserted card, but in two minutes the card reader unmounts itself. The only way to reactivate it is to pull it out and put it back, but in a few minutes it unmounts again automatically even if I don't touch the computer at all. I think it is a software problem, but reinstalling the driver didn't help. Did someone experience similar problems?

Whenever I insert a 128GB SDXC Card into my IdeaPad 500-151SK the following zaps-in at the bottom right corner of the screen: "There's a problem with this drive. Scan the drive now and fix it." I did have the same problem with 64GB SDXC Cards and took it back to the retailer, who, I think, fixed it. I hope that it is capable of read/writing to SDXC Cards up to 256GB? Your advice will be appreciated.Regards.

Hi I just bought this laptop but the webcam is so dark. I tried fixing brightness and stuff it still is quite dark for me. Is there any software that can fix this? Thanks

A:Z470 Lenovo camera dark

Hello Maria48 and welcome to Lenovo community,
Kindly try reinstalling the camera software and check if it resolve the issue.
If the persist, please try following methods:
Install YouCam Software first.
Method one:
Adjust brightness and contrast via the interface ?Video Enhancement?, camera image effect could be improved clearly.

Method Two
Click ?Configure the YouCam settings? and adjust ?Capture resolution? to a higher value. The higher the resolution is, the better the effect will be.

I hope this will resolve your issue.
Best Regards,

lenovo z470. Trying to connect to tv via hdmi. When I connect, the tv doesn't read anything. I tried dual-monitor mode, where it shows the same thing on both screens, then I tried nothing on my computer but show on the tv, still didn't work but made my computer screen go blank. Now when I connect my computer to hdmi, it goes blank. It seems ridiculous, this should be so easy, I don't know what's going on!

Are you setting the TV to the correct HDMI input? Can you test the HDMI input with another device or test the Z470 with another HDMI monitor or TV? Have you tried another HDMI cable?

Hey everyone. I am having trouble with my Multi-Card Reader/SD Card Reader. I am trying to take pictures off of my SD card and put them on my computer. I have lost my USB cord for the camera and can't locate it at this time or I would do that.

So anyway, I put the card in the SD card drive and the green light does not come on. I then open up My Computer and the drive isn't even listed. I checked in Device Manager as well and as far as I know, it is not listed in there either. If it is, then it is under a name that I don't recognize.

So anyway, I would greatly appreciate some help in getting my computer to recognize my Multi-Card Reader/SD Card Reader.

Also, I tried these things from my Standard Account.

I have an Ideapad 310-15ISK and recently I noticed the SD card reader has stopped working.  It seems that the hardware is not even being recognised.  When I insert a card into the reader, absolutely nothing happens.  I cannot find the device in Windows 10 "Device Manager".
I have not changed anything significant on the laptop other recently installing BIOS 0XCN44WW.  Looking at other posts around this topic I have seen mention of a BIOS parameter which enables/disables the card reader but I can see no such parameter in the 0XCN44WW BIOS.
Anyone have any ideas?
I don't use the card reader very often and I do have a USD card reader/writer if I really need one but it bugs me that this feature of my relatively new laptop has stopped working.

Windows 7 SP2 Intel desktop PC.
I have a weird 3? slot internal USB card reader problem.
All SD and mSD cards (last with adapter) are recognized normally as storage devices except one Sandisk Extreme Pro 8GB micro SD, which worked normally until 2 weeks ago but still works normally with other external USB card reader.
With internal USB reader all SD cards used to be drive L: and still are L:, except this Sandisk Pro.
When this Sandisk mSd card is inserted nothing happens and looks like Windows considers it as nothing or something else but not a storage device.
Nor computer storage manager doesn't see it in internal card reader.

But when I use external card reader, this Sandisk SD card works normally and is given a letter S:.

It looks like some kind registry numerator of USB devices has listed this SD card ID as not storage device.
Any ideas how to troubleshoot?

A:SD card stopped working in old reader while reader and card are OK

If it were in the registry as not a valid device, it wouldn't work from the external reader, either. I would check to make sure that you don't have dirty contacts in the internal reader. Sometimes dust can get in there and raise havoc, especially on some SD cards which have more active contacts than others. One dirty contact can make one card not work, while other, low density cards, will.

Hello. I got brand new Lenovo Z70-80 yesterday.  Today I installed Windows 10 Pro, and seems to everuthing runs just fine. Great laptop, beautifull display... Then I tried SD card reader. I hear the connect sound, it shows me SD card, i can open it, copy files, use it normal. But at some random moments it just unmounts it self, and then quickly mount it back. It takes a second to mount back sd card. Unmount and mount sound can be heard. I dont need to mount it manualy, no need to take off sd card. Under device manager:USB Controllers: Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader, Driver date 12/21/2015, Driver Version 10.0.10586.31222 When I mount sd card, it shows me SDHC card under Disk Drivers in device manager. Driver date 6/21/2006, Driver version 10.0.10586.0 I tried reinstaling card driver, but no luck.I also tried to move a little sd card when its in sd card slot, to see if it looses contact, but its not loosing it. Any suggestions? Tnx,Aleks

A:Card Reader? for LENOVO 100S

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
According to your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual there is a card reader.  It should be on the left side of the laptop and it is in between the USB port and the Audio Jack.   The card reader may have a dummy card inserted into it to keep the slot free of dust. That may have prevented you from easily seeing it.  Just eject the dummy card for use of the slot.
Here is your manual for your reference.  Page #37 shows the location of the card reader.

I have a "SanDisk Ultra CompactFlash" 4GB card and an internal card reader (HP desktop). When I insert the card into the reader, the green light above the slot turns on as if it recognizes the device, but it doesn't show up. Device Manager says that the driver is installed and working properly, and I have uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and restarted my computer. A system restore isn't really an option because it isn't my computer.

Any idea how I can fix this? Could it matter that I'm not on the Admin account on the computer?
