Zoom Modem not connecting to internet

Q: Zoom Modem not connecting to internet

I recently moved to a new apartment and transferred Spectrum internet service to my new place.

I own my own modem and router. Modem is a Zoom 5345. It is a little over 2 years old.

Upon setting up modem and router, I had connection with no issues right away for the first 24 hours. But this AM, the wifi network is active but there is no internet.

The modem is on. The Power light is solid green, and the US DS light flash blue while the internet light is off. I have tried resetting the modem multiple times but it always goes back to the same light pattern.

I called Spectrum to confirm my service, and the guy confirmed that my apartment is online and he could even see my router, although he said it kept showing up as a video connection.

My apartment has 1 coaxial cable, which seems to be hardwired into the socket cover.

Any ideas on what could be the issue? Do I just need a new modem? Should I buy Spectrums router?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi There.
Afew days ago i was trying to connect my laptop to my ps3.
To do this i was changing setting etc but never got it to work anyway..
The next day i turn the computer on and can't connect to the internet.
I think it was something to do with dns
I uninstalled and reinstalled my usb modem and software and always get full connection bars and says its connected, but in the bottom right hand corner it says network "no internet access" with a yellow triangle over it .
This is driving me nuts!
It was because i was changing all of the settings in network and sharing senter, but being the wally i am, never wrote down the original settings. Whatever i did i am fairly certain i did it in the change adapter settings.

I hope any of that made sense to you.
If you need any extra info let me know.
Thankyou for trying to help my problem!

I am running windows 7.. i did a quick ipconfig /all and it says my dns servers are:

I am in Sweden and I have broadband from Com Hem. I have managed to set it up on one computer, but when I try connecting to my laptop, a warning message comes up saying that there is a limited connection. When I try to open Internet Explorer and access websites, it says that "The Page Cannot Be Displayed." Like I said, the connection works for one computer, but for some reason not for the other. I tried the repair option, but it seems that it is not an IP address issue. I am not very savvy when it comes to technical issues, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need a router, either wired or wireless, connected to the modem and clone the Mac address of the computer you have that connects to the modem in the router setup. You can then use more than one computer on your cable modem.

A:Connecting to internet using cable modem

When you connect a new machine to your cable modem (technically a bridge), you must reboot the modem. This allows the switches and routers at the cable company's central office to record the MAC address of your machine and assign you an IP address. If you don't reboot the modem you won't be able to connect.

My modem(motorola)(for comcast high speed internet) was working fine, until i noticed i could not shut it off, just by pressing the standby button on top, it would stay on, then the next day, the lights would not all light up, first green light at top would light up, then the 2nd, then the 3rd, then the pc/power would stay orange.. then the 3rd light would blink go off, then go to the 2nd light and blink then stay lit and then go back to the 3rd again.. over and over it does this.. the Online light will never light up.. Ive talked to comcast and they said its trying to connect but cant.. so they had me run some test, unplugging it for 30secs and then turning pc off and then rebooting.. still nothing.. do you think there is something else that casued this.. like i said it was working one day and the next it wasnt.. also i have limewire on my pc.. and i have it set to only open when i open it.. well somehow it keeps opening by itself. i close the program and about 20 seconds later it pops up all by itself.. ive scanned for viruses already and spybot and adaware programs were all ran.. still no connection.. before i have a tech man from comcast come out, i was just wondering if there was someone who might have had this problem and can help me please. thanks

A:Problem with connecting to Internet using Modem and Router

Since you already have a modem/router, why are you connecting the second router? If you're just trying to use the wireless function, try this:

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

Who is your internet service provider? Whoever you purchased service through should be able to get your modem setup and initilized on their network. Once you have connectivity, setting up the Xbox and your laptop to get an IP from the router you bought should be a piece of cake.

Hello everyone,

At the moment I have my home network running through my modem which has a 4 port hub and wireless as well as my internet.

Im looking to put a gigabit router in for the comptuers and ps3 to talk with becuase I want to get a NAS instead of use my main comp.

How would I go about hooking them together so the internet works through it all and the wireless as well, but also the gigabit between comptuers?

Can I just have it in the system and have it set to look at my modem for the DHCP and stuff like that?

Also if you know of any good NAS systems or gigabit routers please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

A:connecting gbit router and internet modem

Connect the gigabit switch to a LAN port on the router and connect all the other devices to the gigabit switch. You don't need a gigabit router, just a switch.

My company recently made it possible to access our work e-mail through the internet using "Internet Explorer." When I access the internet through my regular modem, I have no problem accessing the internet e-mail. However, I primarily use a cable modem and when I try to access the internet e-mail through my AT&[email protected] connection, I receive the following error message: "HTTP 401.2 - Logon failure due to server configuration Internet Information Services."

I have tried changing various settings under my @home connection, but without any access. The error message is fairly cryptic so I am not sure exactly what I am trying to correct.

I am using a dial-up line and Windows Me.

I recently had to replace my modem as it got blown out by a lightning strike. I have installed an internal 56K Zoom modem which works OK.

The problem arises when I want to disconnect from surfing the Internet. The signal on the line appears to stop but the line is held open for precisely 60 seconds. This did not happen with my old modem.

I use Outlook for my email and have set the option to drop the connection when the Send/Receive has finished. This happens correctly, even with my new Zoom modem.

I have asked for support from Zoom, but all they could suggest was that I download the latest driver. I have, and it has made no difference.

Any suggestions appreciated.

A:Zoom modem non-disconnection

In case anybody else has this problem, I just want to document the way I have overcome the problem - rather than resolved it.

The telephone and the modem are on the same phone socket. Until I changed modems, there was no problem with immediate disconnections.

I have found that lifting the receiver (taking the phone off the hook), before doing a disconnect, allows the disconnection to be immediate and without a 60 second time delay.

I have BellSouth Fast Access DSL, which originally came with a Westell modem. To make a long story short, I spilled a glass of water on said modem, and fried it. I revived it a couple times and it limped along for a month or so, before finally dying/sparking....decided it was time to replace it =) I purchased a Zoom ADSL X6 modem with built in wireless routing, LAN, hub, the whole shebang. I installed it per the cd/instructions, and after a few hiccups, it was working wonderfully - never had faster DSL in my life! Only problem is, it seems to be blocking any outgoing files from being sent. In Gmail, I can send and recieve text emails, but any attachments, whether they are jpg, tiff, pdf, etc, consistently attach as "empty" files, that is they show up with a generic place-holder icon and have a file-size of 0kb. In Photobucket, I can't upload images at all, the browser just "thinks and hangs" indefinitely. Even on forums that let users upload images, I can't upload anything.....hangs indefinitely....

This is very frustrating as I work in animal rescue and use a fax-to-email service that lets me fax affordably by emailing my faxes as attachments to the service. I can't even attach jpgs to outgoing emails at all! i can recieve attachments, no problem. Just can't send them!

The modem says it has a built in firewall. The advanced settings say it's disabled, I also disabled Windows firewall and updates, doesn't make a difference. ... Read more

Hi All...

I just got a new PC on Monday - here are the specs off the top of my head (I am at work, PC is at home) - HP Pavillion 764, 2.6 Ghz., 512 MB DDR Ram, Lucent Modem, 120 GB hard drive, 128 MB nVidia GeForce MX 440 video card, Windows XP Home.

I connect via MSN 8 dial up. No cable/dsl in my area at all.

Ok, with my old PC I would get a consistent connection of 32000 bps. Now, with the new PC I am connecting at 21.6 or 24000 bps - which makes for a huge performance hit since I am an online gamer.

I was ok with the 32k connection - a lot of latency - but this is worse with the 21 & 24k connection.

I am still using the same phone lines, dialing the same #'s and using the same version software for internet connection.
The only difference is the PC, OS & Modem really.

Why am I connecting slower now and how can I fix this?
Do you think I should swap modems?

In a few weeks my contract with my local cable ISP will be up and I am seriously thinking about going to AT&T DSL. AT&T has a nice package deal - they provide a modem & I have to hook it up (they charge $200 for a serviceman to come out).

My question: Is there much, if any difference in connecting a DSL modem as opposed to my current cable modem? My thinking is just to swap out the wires and carry on.

Any suggestion or input is appreciated!

A:Connecting DSL Modem

a few months ago I switched from cable to DSL.(ATT).The package came with an installation CD and very straight forward installation instructions.I was up and running in about 15 mins.
One thing about DSL though.Generally the further away you are from the main telco office, the slower the speed. The outer limit,I believe is 18,000 feet.So that might be a good thing to know.I am two blocks from the telco office so my bandwidth is pretty good(paying for 3mb's and get consistantly about 2.7(close enough).

At present, I have the following setup:

Cable comes into the modem and goes to the router. The router then feeds my Vonage phone system and all my computers. The only computer that connects wireless is my wife's laptop, everything else is hard wired.

99% of the time this setup works flawlessly, but there are times I want to hook my main pc directly to the modem (for troubleshooting). It will not connect to internet that way. I suspect the reason is that when I installed Win 7 Pro I told it that it would connect to my local network.

There has to a way to connect that one pc directly to the modem. This where I need the help.

Thanks for any help.

A:Connecting Modem to PC

Every time you attempt to connect to the Internet, your ISP checks the MAC address of the 1st component that's connected to the modem, which normally is your router.
However, if you did not clone the MAC address of your main PC's network card to the router when you set up the router, then your ISP will be seeing your network card's MAC address when you connect the modem directly to your main PC. And since your ISP does not recognize the network card's MAC address, it will not allow you to access the Internet.
If that's the case, then just clone the MAC address of your network card to the router at the router's online administrative site.
You can find your network card's MAC address by doing this:
Click Start, type system information in the Search box, click on System Information, click the + next to Components and then Network, and scroll down to MAC Address.

I am running on Windows XP and have been having some problems. For some reason I am having problems logging onto my msn and into the internet. When I log onto msn it comes up troubleshoot but I cannot troubleshoot because I cannot log onto the internet. When i try to log onto the internet it comes up page not found and tells me to push refresh, when I push refresh nothing happens. I have to restart my computer to log into anything. If I let it sit too long though it will do the same thing again and if I am logged onto msn and talking to someone, if I leave that too long then try to resume the conversation it will not let me send my message then I have to restart my computer. What can I do??

A:modem not connecting

It could be a number of things but the most probable from your description is a feature that disconnects you if there is too much idle time. There is a setting for 15 minutes as an example that would kick in after 15 minutes of no activity. That's one half the other may be noise on the line. That could cause your not being able to log on without a reboot.

You didn't say if you have a dial up modem ISP or high speed internet but I'm assuming dial up from your description. Also, do you have Call Waiting ?? Last would be a firmware upgrade for your modem but tell us this, did it ever work right, no disconnects, no time outs, etc. ???

Hi all,

I installed vista on my pc today and spent forever trying to connect to the internet.I tried my isp support but they were useless and i am waiting for a call back.

In the meantime, i looked around and found the drivers for the modems i have are not compatible with vista and they have not released an updated version.

If i am wrong about this i would be extremely grateful if anyone could direct me to the driver downloads for the following 2 modems that are compatible:

SAGAM [email protected] 800

I have read the forums about people editing their registry or something to connect but i dont really want to go into that. I have a 32 bit version.

Thanks for any help

Hello all...
I have search about this for days not to mention books that I have read. The more I read the more I confused.
Dial-Up Modem <- ADSL Modem (
-------------- Router ( -----------------------------------------
| | | |

I just got a new ADSL modem from my ISP for free and it happened to be a modem router which is gonna replace the dialup modem. The default IP is the same as my router ( I change the IP address to an unuse IP at the same subnet but the modem want cooperate. No connection. No ping replied. I give up changing the modem IP and I tried something else. Changed the router IP. But doing that will effect to all client pc.
Is there other way to solve this problem without bothering the client pc?

JohnWill's procedure for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

I am having really big problems connecting with a Huawei 3G modem. As soon as I connect the modem through the USB port the whole pc becomes slower. When the modem is connected I cannot open an internet explorer page. The hourglass turns around for a few times and then nothing happens at all. When I unplug the modem the amount of pages that I tried to open suddenly opens.I then thought that maybe it is only a problem with Explorer so I installed firefox and found it to be the same. When I open a few explorer pages before I plug the mode in ; I can surf just fine in those pages but I cannot open new pages I can only change the address in existing ones.
Can anyone help me figure this problem out. I tested the modem on another pc and it worked fine.

I have recently got a BT Voyager 190 Modem with my AOL Broadband subscription.
I can connect to AOL using my Laptop no problem , but when I try to use my PS3 (Playstation 3) through the modem I keep getting an error message telling me that it's a DNS error. It finds an IP address no problem but when it searches for an internet connection it promptly fails. As the modem has only got the 1 ethernet socket I can't have my Laptop plugged into it at the same time as the PS3.
Any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
