Solved: Sync problems with hotmail/OE + browser problems

Q: Solved: Sync problems with hotmail/OE + browser problems

Hi, I have a hotmail account, but prefer to use OE for sending/receiving. I am on dialup and loading a page for every email is too slow.

This past week, every time I've opened OE, Ive had to synchronize the account to show the hotmail folders. Then every message in each folder has to be re-downloaded. 'Set program access and defaults' is set to use OE, but each time I return to that page, the settings have been changed.

Today I had OE open all afternoon while writing emails and all my folders disappeared again and a message appeared "there are not any folders to show for this account. would you like to view a list of available folders now? y/n". I dont know why this is happening, but I would just love my email folders to stay put for a change.

also..
While browsing on this site several days ago, the pages wouldn't load fully. So I clicked refresh, the page would refresh partially, then freeze, then refresh itself again. After that only about half the threads on each page were shown. I was viewing the world cup thread and it was showing only about the first 12 - 15 posts on each page.

Entering this site tonight a similar thing was happening. The top part of the page would load - from the red bar and above, but nothing below. Refreshing the page helped, but it would still not load to the bottom, and am unable to read the last few posts on each page. The same is happening on other websites, but not all. I've noticed the problem is mainly with forum sites.

I'm not sure if the 2 issues are connected in some way but thought it worth mentioning. I have windows xp sp2, outlook express 6. I run AVG, Ewido, Spybot S&D and windows defender. They all come up clean but for a few tracking cookies.

Any help would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have a hotmail account and use outlook express 6 for sending/receiving emails.

For the past 6 weeks, my hotmail folders have been disappearing daily, and I have to synchronise each folder and re-download all the messages in them. Its even more frustrating with my 56K connection. This happens even while I'm writing emails at the time with OE opened. When this happens a message appears;

"There are not any folders to show for this account. Would you like to view a list of available folders now? Y/N"

'Set program access and defaults' is set to use outlook express. I searched heaps and found this page; http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=220852

I followed though the steps, but it made no difference to the sync problem. I run AVG, spybot, ewido and windows defender daily. I also ran a panda scan, with no infections detected.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi there...

Have you tried deleting the account from OE and then setting it up again??

Not sure it'll fix the problem but will only take a minute or two so worth a try :)

I am downloading a lot of YouTube cartoons etc. for my Son which I copy to a Flash Disk to use in my DVD Player.
I use MP3 Rocket (Free) and save to my computer as a video clip (which I think is AVI). They all play well in my Laptop and with all music players.
However, when I convert to VOB I often have a sync problem (the audio becomes delayed) even when I play it on my Laptop.
Some, though, are perfectly OK, even though I use the same process with all of them.
I use ?Ashampoo Shrink & Burn 3? and I again save to my computer
I select ?Create Movie Files? then ?Video DVD Files (VIDEO_TS). I then select ?PAL? and ?16.9 (wide screen)?.
In the ?Target Size (in MB)? I enter ?9999?. I don?t understand this function but it seems to work. I then add my Movie Clip after changing ?All supported Files? to ?All Files?.
Next, I enter the Video Title and then chose the third option in the drop down box for the introduction to be my Video Title again and then save to my C Drive.
I'm obviously doing something wrong and consequently need some help. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit.
Kind Regards,
brovic

A:[SOLVED] Sync problems when converting to VOB

Converting from AVI to VOB can sometimes throw the audio off.
I am not familiar with Ashampoo software. But I have had great luck with DVD Flick. If you need to shrink the file before converting, in most cases you don't, you can use DVDShrink. DVD Flick has it's own burning engine, and if you have IMGBurn installed, you can download from my signature, DVDShrink will automatically open that program after shrinking to burn the DVD.

I dont know if anyone can help but here goes :
Ive been searching the internet and no help
My mother is having problems with her hotmail. everythin was working fine yesterday but today she was having problems

1st problem is when sending an email i get this message

Windows Live Hotmail couldn't send your message because the server was busy. Please try again later.

the weird thing is it still sends as i sent a test email from her account to mine

if i click on save draft i get a similar message

We can't connect to Windows Live Hotmail right now. Please try again later.

2nd problem is she is not receiving any emails. I sent a few test emails from my account and she has not received them or any other email

This happens on both mine and her computers and only seems to be a problem with her email. mine works fine.

I received some windows updates today but i uninstalled them to check if that was the cause and it was not.

1 - In my taskbar I have the messenger icon. When I click on this my windows messenger window appears, I thne select FILE, then MY EMAIL IN BOX, but it opens microsoft outlook, which although I have installed I do not use. I wish it to bring up my hotmail account.

2 - I no longer get a pop up window whenever I receive an email as I use to before getting and setting up a my new pc - this is frustrating as I have to keep checking my mailbox and refreshing it instead of being alerted. I have sound on so this isn't the issue - the issuie is I have no pop up box. I'm using windows XP.

The last few Hotmail letters I have sent, with the Copy to Sent Folder box checked, have turned up in my Sent Folder, but when I open them in the Sent folder the window containing them is entitled Compose rather than Sent, and the letters are in the same form as they would be in the Compose folder and not in the form that letters in the Sent folder normally are. They don't show any time and date of sending. On some on which I was one of the addressees, they show up in my Inbox, so I presume they have been in fact sent but on others on which I am not an addressee I am left wondering. How can I fix the problem? I have written to Hotmail support but I thought I'd see if anyone may have had the problem or may have a suggestion. Thanks, grandpaw

Ok wasn't sure if this relates to security or web. On the surface it looks web related so I am trying here first.

Yesterday afternoon I was able to logon to my AIM account and check my Hotmail account. I was able to chat on AIM check email send messages. Then out of nowhere my AIM shut down and gave me a message "The AIM service cannot be reached" Didn't think much of it because afternoons have high traffic. After ten minutes I lost connection to my hotmail account.

It is almost 15 hours later and this is the status and this is where it gets really strange.

I am able to access the internet search pages do whatever. But when I go to www.msn.com and click on hotmail it times out with a white web page. If I go to www.hotmail.com I get the same thing. I called up MS supprt and they said no network problems. I called my cable provider and they said no network problems. I called my friend and he was able to access hotmail fine. I cannot get to hotmail no matter what. But I can get to anything else on the web.
As for my AIM I still get the message AIM service cannot be reached. BUTTTT i do have more then one AIM account...5 to be exact. Hi all.

Not sure if this is a problem on my end or Windows Live's end, but I am getting page display problems on any Windows Live site, including Hotmail. I know, I use Hotmail still, but haven't transferred all my accounts over to Gmail yet. Basically, I can sign in but can't view any emails when I click them. Can't click any other links on the page either, really. Display issues on other Windows Live pages, too.

Tried searching online but couldn't see others getting the same issue, so assumed it was me. But I've cleared my cache and ctrl+F5'd the pages numerous times, but no changes.

If I click an email to open it, it doesn't take me anywhere. It just adds a # to end of the URL.

Image below shows the left side of my Hotmail page, all jumbled up.

Windows Live home page:

If it's something on Windows Live's end, fair enough, I'll have to wait. Otherwise, anything I can do? Many thanks guys!

Which browser are you using? Have you tried using a different browser?

If youíre not using an updated browser, some parts of Hotmail might not work and it might not display properly.

Hey, i am having some massive problems with firefox & IE recently, essentially i am getting a message telling me that the connection has timed out to sites that i KNOW work. I am on cable and i can access other sites, but for some reason once it chooses a site then i just can't access it again, it just 'times out'. If i try to type the address into IE i get a syntax error sometimes and it will show the following in the address bar in this format: http:///? www.whatever.com while in firefox it just forever timesout.
For some reason some 'IST Toolbar' got onto my computer a few days ago, i have got the latest adaware and mcaffee which removed the toolbar to start with but there are obviously still problems. I also occasionally get pop-ups when i have no browser windows open in IE for p0rn, casinos and the like.
I've never used hijackthis before so here is my logfile...any help???

A:Solved: having browser problems

This sounds like either a Display driver/card or hardware/heat related issue.

Does the problem persist if you boot in Safe Mode with Networking support from your F8 boot menu on startup?

My guess right now would be heat.

For a laptop, check the vents around the side and bottom of the laptop and blow out any accumulated dust.

Also you can install Speedfan and monitor temps; look for anything above 70 c or which rises more than 30 c from a cold boot.

Hope someone here can help me.

Today, I was trying to use Mozilla, and I get a popup box that reads "Windows cannot find [null]". I had recently made Mozilla my default browser, and disabled IE.

After not being able to browse the net at all, I enabled IE, and downloaded the IE7 version. I have also uninstalled Mozilla and reinstalled it.

When I attempt to open a firefox browser, I get this error message,

AppName: firefox.exe AppVer: 1.8.20071.12718 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00001010

I am not a big IE fan, so the sooner I can get rid of this browser, the happier I will be.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks in advance,

First I would try opening FireFox in "safe mode".
Click Start>All Programs>Mozilla FireFox>Mozilla FireFox (safe mode)

If safe mode works then most likely there is a conflict with an add-on or theme.

If this does not work then I would try another profile. To quote another member here at TSF

a few months ago i started getting "The page cannot be displayed" but when i restart my pc the page show's up. some times i can access the site and after a few minutes i get the error browsing to another part of the site. and this is'nt just happening with i.e. i downloaded fire fox in hope's of fixing this (happened before to me on a different pc) and it gets the same problem. it even happens in winamp and other various apps that connect to the net. but i think its because they use i.e. somehow.

one theory i had was that i messed up java somehow because i had to install the jave runtime enviroment to run an app. at some point i uninstalled it for security reason's (java exploits freak me out) but since then i've reinstalled it and the problem is still there (could java be misconigured)

im also using a different firewall then i normally do, i switched from sygate to Outpost Firewall Pro

C00D1197. Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are tying to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted." Now I have checked the file pathway and it seems fine, all songs play with WMP. I have itunes and I can get all my songs to convert and sync to my ipod. I have tunebite which converts my songs to mp3 format. I have tried getting the songs from the tunebite folder to the mP3 player by sending them to it from the file folder, and it tells me that it cannot send the file because it is copywright protected. However, all of these songs converted are unprotected, as it says in the file properties. Any ideas???

okay he has a Palm zire 72s PDA , has been using it in conjunction with his pda via the Hot Sync function, but just recently upon trying to use the hot sync software he would find that although the programme would open up " start sync process a few seconds later it would hang at " syncronsing media " he tried reinstalling the hot sync software but same problem every time .

had a look for him last night to see if I could figure out what was going wrong but unfortunately not really any further forward !! what I was getting thou was a message saying " com 1 not available at present " strange thing is that the only options within the set up menu off the hot sync programme shows a choice off com 3 or com 5 so not sure where this com 1 comes in ??

lastly, the only thing he had added to the pc since last using this hot sync programme is a Belkin ADSL wirless router, tried unplugging this thinking it may be the cause but was still getting the same problem, could it still be a setting that the router is using that is preventing the pda hot sync working ??

dont want to muck up any settings as his wirless router is working fine but feel sure that this could very well be the very problem just wonder what anyone else here thinks ??

any simplified instructions on just what I need to do would be greatly appreciatted ( bit off a novice on this side off things !! )

cheers

This is going to get complicated.

I installed a Linksys router on my XP. After doing this I cannot get emails through Thunderbird or Outlook, cannot bring up any pages in Internet Explorer or in AOL, although AOL does load and receive mail. My laptop also receives mail in Thunderbird -- identical settings so it is not a Cable Broadband problem (Comcast). Note that Firefox and MSN Messenger work fine on the XP. Errors in the XP Outlook, I.E. and Thunderbird usually are something like -- "can't connect to server."

Here's what I have done.
1. Cleared the cache, the temp files and the important things on I.E.
2. Uninstalled and reinstalled I.E.
3. Checked settings on Thunderbird (called Comcast, account is fine) -- remember I can connect on my laptop with identical settings
4. Disabled all firewalls, including the router
5. Tried to access everything through my cable modem without going through my router
6. Virus checks, spyware checks, etc.
7. Called the Linksys people
8. Reinstalled Thuderbird (did not uninstall it first.)

Note also, that installing the router actually changed certain cosmetic parts of Firefox, God knows why. These were easily fixed and worked fine. More info: Lynksis WRT54G router. Computer is XP with 1 gig ddr memor, 2,4ghz. 2 hard drives 120 gigs each.

Help

Thanks

Working windows XP, IE browser is usually Google turned on and went to www.web-res.biz and is now about::blank. Intially I would be directed to adult sites and a adult pop up appears. Once getting to a websites home page I would then be directed back to web-res.bz (I've not been on any adult sites) I have run spyblaster, S&D, ad-aware, bitdefender and removed all the threats but still cant get the browser to run correctly. I've been on several sites and taught myself a little about HJT logs but dont have confidence in my abilities and not entriely sure what it all means. Please can some one help and guide me it would be appreciated.

Edge is very klunky...slow to open sites, freezes up, etc. I switched back to Chrome and the problems disappeared. Win. 10 is fine, just Edge. I used the Microsoft Community and they gave me this advice:

I suggest you clear the Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.
Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find this page anywhere (googled it & all). I wrote them back and they gave me advice on how to leave feedback. I guess they saw the words "feedback icon." Hopefully you know what the problem is. If it is the need to clear browsing data option, perhaps you can tell me where I can find the Project Spartan Homepage to follow these instructions.

Many thanks.

problem. When I log on to TSG and then make the jump to forums, I'm no longer logged in.
Does not matter which sub-forum I go to >I log in>make the jump>and have to log in again.

I am not sure if this is problem and the one with yahoo mail are the same, with Yahoo mail I get stuck in an endless log-on loop. Every so often after logging in to Yahoo mail, it will ask you to resubmit your password for security reasons but today I have had to go through the "lost/forgot my password loop" being given a new password, then I go to the "change password page", change the password with it (yahoo) tells me has been successful; but when I try to get into my mail, I'm redirected to the "resubmit password page" and there I'm stuck.

Back to TSG: the only way I could get this thread started was to log-in, make the jump to Operating Systems, click on "start new thread" re-log on, and then it gave me this page.

Any ideas?

And to cover anything that might be trying to take a hold of your computer this:

To download HJTsetup.exe from SpyKiller To Download HijackThis go to the following at the File Repository
Click on the button for Download to the right of HijackThis Self Installer:

http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe

Save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialog boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialog.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialog box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply. DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Ok, Problem with XP. Had to reinstall (using repair on the XP install) because no one could sign on, reinstalled SP2, IE6, then IE7. Right now, using wireless or direct connect to DSL modem (2Wire, ATT), I can ping anything on my home network. I can ping out to the internet. I can traceroute to any address (such as www.yahoo.com, www.microsoft.com), but cannot connect to the internet with a browser (IE6, IE7, Foxfire, Opera) to either the URL or the IP address obtained from the traceroute. All other programs seem to work. Have removed Zone Alarm Pro, disabled XP Firewall. Virus check was done will HD was attached to another system as slave drive. Spyware check was done, removed 12 using Zone Alarm prior to removal. Can anyone else suggest another move?

My Mozilla 1.7.3 browser suddenly has developed two serious problems. First, whenever I close the browser, I lose the "Bookmarks" file. Fortunately, I can reload from a floppy, but why is the file being lost?

Secondly, if my external "A" drive is connected, the browser insists on accessing it virtually every time I left click the mouse while navigating. The Internet Explorer "Favorites" file is written to the floppy, with the Mozilla browser locked up during the 'writing.' The 'work around' is to disconnect the 'floppy' drive, but that was never previously necessary.

I uninstalled M 1.7.3 and downloaded and installed 1.7.5 to no avail. I then uninstalled M 1.7.5 and installed M 1.6 from a CD. Still the two problems persist. At the very start of these problems I went back to a System Restore point previous to the start of the problems, but that didn't do any good, hence the loading and unloading of Mozilla "cousins."

A post to the MozillaZine Forums site has not elicited a response. I look forward to a response here. Many thanks.

There's a few things you could try.

Open IE, go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings > (uncheck) automatically detect settings

Or open IE without Add-ons (sometimes certain add-ons or plug-ins can slow it down)

A:avi audio sync problems

You count use something like virtualdub and splt the audio and video streams, make sure they are each the same length, then re-dub them together. depending on where the .avi originated, it depends what coding was used at what bit-rate and fps of the video and such.

Hello petri234,

This is most likely related to the video application you're using, or the video you're playing. Most video applications has settings to manage the sound output delay, so what application are you using?

If you press the Volume icon in the icon bar > Press the volume up/down and see if the sound comes right away, would prove that the original audio is working fine and that the application/video is to blame.

I have created a shortcut from the networked folder 'x:\users\SyncUser' to the desktop.
When I click 'Work Offiline' from explorer, I can use the shortcut to open the folder, but I receive an error message saying the 'file is not currently available on this computer'. Trying to access the same file through the Sync Center gives the same error.

Any suggestions what I might be doing wrong, and how I can get this working please? Thanks in advance

I'm having problems using Windows Vista Sync Center. I want to sync folders on my laptop and my desktop. Unfortunately, whenever I go to sync center and select "set up new partnerships," the only item that shows up is Offline Files. I'm assuming here I should be seeing a list of computers on my network. Not really sure why they're not showing up... Here's the rundown:

Laptop Stats:

HP Pavilion 1x 1000 Notebook PC
AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2.0 GHz
1982 MB RAM
32 bit operating system
Windows Vista Business
Norton Internet Security 2007

Desktop Stats:
Self-built
Intel Motherboard socket 478
Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
2047 MB RAM
32 bit operating system
Windows Vista Ultimate
Norton Internet Security 2007

I'm using a D-Link Rangerbooster N wireless router.

So far what I've done is-
For both computers:

-Went into Norton Internet Security Firewall settings and put the IP addresses of each computer under the "trusted" list of devices.
-File sharing is enabled in Network and Sharing center

In control panel network connections I am able to see all the computers on the network and access/change their files. Seems like I've covered all my bases....

Anyone know if I'm forgetting something or doing sometihng wrong? Any help would be AWESOME.

Hello All

I have found a lot of complaints on the Sync Center but very little solutions.

The problem I am having is whenever I plug in any external memory device (I.E. Ipod) I get: Microsoft Syn Center has stopped working. I do received a workaround through the build in help thingy but it does not work. I have also tried replacing the wmp.dll file and that does not work. The Sync center intself shows nothing, as if it is not even being used. The error menu gives you the option to close program and after which all seems to work as normal. I am the kind of person who wants things to work and not just have a band aid put over it.

Thanks Tim

My daughter's computer running Windows 7 has developed an issue where the internet is not functioning correctly. She has both Chrome and Internet Explorer installed and neither one will connect to any webpage.

I've attempted to run Malwarebytes, but the database will not update as it cannot connect to the internet either.

I've attempted to troubleshoot the IE connection and the troubleshooter finds no problems.

I followed tips for restoring connectivity I found through a Windows 7 forum. The IPV4 settings seem correct. The laptop is able to ping Google, MSN, Yahoo so I know that there is an internet connection, but something is blocking "normal" access.

I could really use some advice and tips.

Thanks in advance for any help!

When you have internet access but trouble with browsers it's often a corrupted or misconfigured firewall or security suite. What one is on the machine? Or, the need for the following repairs ...

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

I have a problem that is driving me buggy. I run MIC 5.50 browser, update version SP1. I have one website that I use to go to with no problem. Either via hyperlink, typing in address, etc. This was rushlimbaugh.com.
All of a sudden for no understandable reason it quit loading. I know that their is nothing wrong on the site because of its popularity, and the address hasn't changed that I am aware of. All I get is a long wait with no internet activity while trying to load the site, and then the standard "no server available" page. I have tried every available way to get it to open, but to no avail. I am aware that internet traffic could cause this page error, but I have tried to get to it at about all hours of the clock with no luck. I have ruled out traffic as being the problem.
I am properly hooked up to my ISP, and every other aspect of the browser works properly. This happen once before with Yahoo.com, and they indicated some kind of change in their browser LAN settings, or something like that. They gave instructions to clean out some file in the "Systems" folder. This fixed that problem, but no such instructions with the present URL problem are known to do the same thing.
Any insight into this matter is greatly appreciated.
