Turning off the touchpad on my notebook?

Q: Turning off the touchpad on my notebook?

Hello people. I would like to request assistance.
I need to disable the touchpad on my Asus G74Sx notebook. Is there some kind of program I can download that will allow me to disable the touchpad? I used to have a program that allowed me to do so, but when I google it now, I don't get any results that will allow me to download that program, it was called FspUip.exe
Pressing function F9 does not disable the touchpad, and going into the BIOS and disabling the internal pointing device also disables the keyboard.

I have downloaded all the drivers for my notebook numerous times, and I don't know what else to do to try to turn off this touchpad. Going into the control panel and disabling the touchpad that way, also doesn't work.
Please assist me

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

if you have a wired or wireless mouse installed with the manufacturers driver software, In Control Panel - Mouse - Hardware, there should be a box to select disable touch pad when external mouse is detected. I have this setting with both my laptops running Win 7 and Win 8.1.

I tried to put this under the correct topic but I wasn't sure. If an admin sees fit, feel free to move it.

I have an ASUS G74sx, brand new. I have Windows 7 also. I can not disable my touchpad. I tried fn + f9. I tried going to start, run, and trying to disable it that way but the touchpad device is not an available option. I've also tried doing it through control panel but again, the touchpad is not a device option.
I really need to get this disabled. I can barely type because my hand keeps brushing the touchpad.

Please help

Sounds like the quickest solution would be to reinstall the drivers so that you can get the Control Panel icon back, and then disable the touchpad thereafter.

I'm running the consumer preview on my HP envy 14 notebook. On windows 7 I can turn off the touch pad by double tapping the top left corner of the touchpad. This does not work in windows 8 CP. Does anyone know how I can get this to work on win8?

Update: I have tried to install the synaptics driver that I thought was for the touch pad, But after it installs it doesn't seem like things are working right. Any suggestions?

You could try to install the chipset for your laptop, I know that helps the other hotkeys, but I have no idea if it would help the touchpad.

The problem started with my wireless adapter gone missing from device manager as if I don't have wireless property in my laptop. I tried many solutions and nothing worked so I finally installed a fresh copy of windows but the problem was still present. Additionally, my touchpad (though with scroll and buttons working is not turning on/off. When pressing on the left upper edge it doesn't turn on/off, I can't see it in mouse properties or device manager (only PS/2 compatible mouse mentioned there + HID compliant mouse which is my external USB mouse I think). My wireless adapter problem is being solved as I am replacing my wireless adapter with a new one, so my problem now is with my touch pad, I want to be able to turn it on/off so please help

A few days ago, after using my laptop for a bit i left it, still on, for an hour or so and returned to a black screen.Assuming it had a flat battery, i plugged it in and attempted to charge it.After a few presses of the power button (spread over 5 or so minutes as i double checked the charger connection and what not), i noticed the charging light near the port on the laptop was unlit.I followed some online instructions and removed the battery and attempted a hard reset. Nothing. I then put the battery back in, left it to charge for half an hour. Still nothing. I assumed the problem may be the charger (which did not have a light on it to indicate whether it was working), so i bought a new one, but still didnt turn on :/I thought it might be the charging port is acting up but apparently there would still be some sign or light to indicate even a minimal bit of power coming in. Anyone experienced this before or have any ideas?

Hello My HP ENVY Notebook - 17t-n100 CTO (ENERGY STAR), suddenly shut down without any error or message. It wasn't overheating as it was on only for about 25 minutes. I tried to turn it back on afterwards but it was has not been responding. The charging light in on like everything is normal. Battery is fully charged. When I try to turn it on while pressing the power on button, the button itself blinks for about half a second, maybe even less, the fan starts running for about the same time, the light that indicates that laptop is plugged in, the one I mentioned earlier, shuts down and that's it, nothing happens. I tried the hard reset but it didn't help. The laptop is a brand new one and was bought for an UPcoming event on October, now it?s not responding and am not sure what to do. Please do you have any suggestion as to what could have caused this, and how to fix it?

My notebook is no longer turning on.  I have done all of the recommended trouble shooting ideas, still nothing.  Upon further inspection I noticed that the Power Port on the Notebook appears to be damaged.  That being said, I was able to get the computer to power on once briefly while plugged in.  The power indicator light was also on.  I checked to see if a battery issue and it stated I was at 94 % battery life and charging.  The power indicator light went off and so did my computer.  Since then I have not been able to get the computer to come back on.  Last evening while messing around with the Power Port, I plugged the Power Chord back in and for a couple of hours the amber, then white light next to the Power Port did come back on.  I firgured I would let it charge over night.  When I woke up this morning the light was no longer on and the computer would not power on.  Obviously there is an issue with the Power Port, but if the battery is almost fully charged, why will the Notebook not power on?  Please help.

Having a strange issue with the Touchpad on my Dell Precision M4800. When I disable it using the Dell software or using the Fn+F5 hotkey, it has a tendency to come back on after a random interval of time. I want it to stay turned off permanently, as I prefer to use the Pointstick exclusively.
When using the Fn hotkey, I get a notification onscreen as well as a popup in the system tray saying "Touchpad notification: Your touchpad has been disabled." If I manually disable it through the Dell Pointing Devices software, I get the same effect, but without the notification. In either case, this works great... for awhile.
But then the Touchpad inevitably turns back on. I often don't notice until suddenly my mouse cursor is behaving erratically, at which point I try to swipe my finger on the touchpad and sure enough, it's become enabled again.
However after some further experimenting it turns out the "random" aspect of this is not totally random and I can reproduce the issue quite reliably by furiously scanning my finger back and forth across the Touchpad for a few seconds. Inevitably, the touchpad will turn back on, and I will get the notification "Your touchpad has been enabled." No buttons or hotkeys are pressed, all I have to do is move my finger on the touchpad surface rapidly and within seconds of starting to do that, it will re-enable itself. Again, there is also a notification that it has been re-enabled when this happens, so the software... Read more

A:Dell M4800 Touchpad keeps turning itself back on

I had the same problem.   I believe this is a "feature" in that it allows a person who, let's say forgot their travel mouse, to turn the touchpad on again.   The problem is that its too sensitive.   Here's the solution.
(I found the part of the solution here:  http://geekswithblogs.net/dbutscher/archive/2009/09/14/dell-touchpad--enablingdisabling.aspx)

Locate the Program Files\DellTpad directory
Double click on DellTPad.exe
On the bottom, adjust "Touch Check" so that it desensitizes the touchpad to you accidental touches
With this setting all the way Minimum, the touch pad never accidently turns back on, but I can still turn it on by swiping furiously

Hope this helps!

I fail to understand why on a laptop (which has no touchscreen) why you would want to have the swipe gestures?

Surely most folks don't look at the touchpad in use, so it is often that one starts off to the right (especially when the pad is off centre), and it is natural to move to the left to find where one wants to start - hey presto the charms bar opens, and if you're not carefull all sorts of events occur which you really don't want.

Any way on my Lenovo Z580 with synaptics 8.1 we have the worst of both worlds - there is no easy option in the Synaptics settings to turn off the gestures, so the option is to do registry editing to the key TouchPadPS2_3 - I have amended the Active Type dwords from 2 to 0. However there is a side effect of this.

When booting, there is now a delay till the process finishes - we now get blue circular processes next to the pointer for approx 40 seconds.

Does anyone know what other edits we need to make to remove this delay?

Here is the registry for the right edgepull:

I have been using my HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p174na for casual use (a couple of times a week, nothing strenuous at all) since I purchased it a year and a half ago. Yesterday I completed a spreadsheet and checked/sent some emails and then turned it off and put it on charge overnight. This morning I unplugged it and put it away. Then on getting it out to use again this evening I cannot get it to start. I have checked a lot of support pages and searches for the problem and have tried all solutions I have come across (hard resets, attempting turn on with and without battery and/or AV power cord). Nothing seems to work. There are no flashing lights or noises coming from the notebook at all. There also seems to be no damage to any of the cables or power equipment. Please advise what course of action I should now take.

Hello to all,

I have bought new HP laptop ProBook series. Before connecting, I was informed to "form" the battery first so it can last longer. I'm not sure what that means. Battery is included in the package but was not connected to the laptop. What should I do first? Should I connect battery and turn on laptop, or should I first connect it to the adapter for charging?

In the instruction nothing is said about the correct procedure. There are few steps such as connecting the battery to the laptop, then connecting the external power (adapter) and then turn on computer.

Should there be some time after connecting the external power and before turning on?

Do any lights stay on when the screen goes blank or does everything go dark?  It sounds like the screen stays on when you are in the BIOS since you were able to run the diagnostics.  You might try restoring Windows back if that is what is not working using the F11 system recovery option.

Hello Taey, and welcome to Seven Forums.

While changing the advanced power plan settings, double check to make sure that your default power plan is still selected. It's a bit to easy to change it by mistake and not notice it. In addition, double check your Battery settings to see if the percentage levels may be set to cause this by mistake.

Hope this helps for now.

Hi- I picked up a used Dell notebook and have just installed win98SE and just a few other programs, no special mouse software... just Dell sound and video drivers, IE 6.0 and Windows Updates, SpyBot... I have used other notebooks, but never noticed what this crazy touchpad does on the Dell Latitude CPiA366- touching the pad like you were going to scroll the cursor over is having the same affect as a left click with mouse button, or Enter key- do all notebooks do this or all Dells?
Weird- put the cursor on a link and it is activated just by the pad when you put your finger on it- not even a tap really. Is there a way to turn down this too sensitive touchpad?

This issue was raised in another thread which was closed out before it was resolved. I have an ASUS Notebook K53e and I want to disable the touchpad on it which the specific make/model is ELAN PS/2 Port Smartpad. You should be able to do this with Fn+F9 however that keyboard function does not work on my computer as the guy in the previous thread. When I got to devmgmt.msc->Properties on the device->Driver , the "Disable" button is greyed out. I did not receive a driver CD with the machine I purchased . Now the keyboard is working but still stops responding after some time and the touchpad have no driver and in device manager the "PS/2 touchpad" is gone, only the USB mouse is present. My laptop is HP Pavilion TS sleekbook 14 b133tx.OS: Windows 8.1 Single Language 64 bit

A:Notebook Keyboard and Touchpad not working

Hi @NoGameNoLife , Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to help! I grasp that you are having a difficulty with the keyboard and Touchpad but your mouse is still working.  When you checked the mouse setting the Synaptics tab was missing.  You downloaded the Synaptic Touchpad driver and installed but it again disappeared and the keyboard and Touchpad stop working,  You deleted the driver this time and rebooted your notebook. You again installed the driver and it prompted  you to reboot which you did, but again the driver is not installed.  The keyboard now works but after some time it quits responding. Have you scanned for viruses and malware? Would you try this step:Go to the command prompt and right click to run as administratorType sfc /scannow and press enterWait for it to complete and then restart your computer. This will scan for corrupted files and try to repair them. Here are links to assist you with some troubleshooting steps.Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8) If this has not resolved the issue, I would try a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).   If you connect an external keyboard do you have the same issue, does it quit responding after awhile?  If you are still having a difficulty, I would do a full recovery back to factory. Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8) During the recove...
