HP Pavilion Notebook 15z turns off when battery gets below 3...

Q: HP Pavilion Notebook 15z turns off when battery gets below 3...

Hello, Two weeks after my one year warranty was up my laptop started shutting off when the battery was around 30-40%. I checked the battery using the HP Support Assistant Diagnostic Check and it continues to say the "Primary battery is OK." I've also noticed that since this started happening the battery won't fully charge. It only charges to 90-94% then shows "94% available (plugged in, not charging)." I used to unplug the battery until the battery saver (set at 20%) would turn on then I'd fully charge it and repeat. I use my laptop for work so I'm usually plugged in 8-14 hours a day for five days a week. I shut it off every night as well. Am I missing something or is this the battery life I should get? Did I use it too much? I purposefully got a long life battery because for work. I found the article below which sounds similar to my situation and wanted to ask anyway. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Pavilion-15-notebook-sudden... This is my first HP and I didn't have battery issues like this with any previous laptop doing the same amount of work/usage for at least 2+ years. Is this the way HP's are? Am I supposed to expect this type of performance out of my laptop? Thanks for any help/suggestions/words of wisdom.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, For 2-3 weeks my laptop has been turning off with 30-50% battery left.  As soon as it is plugged in, I have no problems. While attempting to turn the computer back on (before I plug it in) the computer usually shuts down before I get to the login screen.  On a few occasions, however, I have succesfully logged in and started my web browser before it shuts down again.  Every time that my computer dips into this margin, it kills all proccesses (unexpected shutdown).  I have tried different power options, but they just delay how long the battery stays above 30-50%. I do not know of any other details.    Thanks for readingIsenfireLDC

Notebook batteri is finished. After some secs the display turns off (notebook

If the display is closed down, and opened again, the display turns on again
for some secs, and turns off again.
Hitting the batteri icon, which is always red crossed, windows prompts
that batteri has low performance and the computer may shut down anytime.
But the computer doesn't shut down, the display turns off.
Running the computer without the batteri doesn't work, the above happens.
Q: Is there a way to set windows 7 to ignore the defect batteri, and run
on wired power?

A:notebook, broken battery, display turns off

Remove the battery, & use mains power only.

We have found that our battery is not charging.  We now need to have the laptop constantly plugged in to make it have power.   Sometimes when we turn the computer on, as it doesnt hold enough power now to go to sleep mode that it has an error message displaying about the battery and needing to do something about it but it always moves to the next screen too quickly for me to understand what the issue is and what to do about it. Can you please point me in the right direction on how we can resolve this issue as it is annoying.  The minute the power chord comes out of the computer, the power is lost. Regards,Kellie Anthony

Hello, Since a couple weeks ago, I have noticed my laptop battery capacity has been significantly lower than before. Without charging, the laptop lasts about 1 hour while it used be around 3 hours. I was thinking about to purchase a new battery in case my current suddenly won't be usable anymore. I have searched for a couple of laptop batteries on the internet to find that all of them were either not similar to mine or had different capacities. At the moment I don't know what to buy, I am not planning on replacing my laptop for at least another year and I'm afraid the battery won't last that long. My laptop is an HP Pavilion 17-f040nd and uses the battery that came through the shipment. The battery and laptop are both 2 years old and have been used almost every day. The battery has a voltage of 14,8V and a capacity of 2700 mAp. It'd be nice if someone could tell what battery I should buy to ensure replacement for my current one. Regards,Mats.

Today I purchased a brand-new HP Pavilion 15-N214TX notebook. When I got home, I unboxed it, inserted the battery, plugged it into the wall, and powered it on for the very first time. I then saw this message:

HP Battery Alert
The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low.
For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.
Primary (internal) Battery (601)
ENTER - Continue Startup
For more information, please visit: www.hp.com\go\techcenter\startup

Windows reports, Plugged in and not charging.

I've removed and re-inserted the battery, gone into the HP Support Assistant application and ran a battery check (only for it to report that it can't find a battery!), and I've ran the pre-boot diagnostics, which also reports that there's no battery inserted. I saw somewhere that you should remove AC power before running the tests. When I pressed the power button while the laptop wasn't plugged into AC, the charging light simply blinked white three times. I could at one point get into the pre-boot diagnostics on battery power, but I still saw the message telling me that no battery was found.

This is a great laptop, it's super fast, software installs quickly, programs open quickly, it shuts down and boots quickly, but this battery issue is a huge letdown. I don't expect this kind of an issue from a brand-new ~$1100 laptop.

Please help!

I have a problem with my HP Pavilion notebook, the notebook is not used frequently and it's just out of warranty. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1 and I am not sure if that has caused the problem, may be just a coincidence?
The problem is that the battery is on 0% charge and displaying, "0% available plugged in not charging."

Because the battery is on 0%, could this be the problem? I read somewhere that if the battery goes completely flat it will not take a charge from the notebook charging system, is this correct? Or any other ideas would be appreciated to get it working again.

First off, I will say that the main battery I am using is not an HP OEM battery, however, it has been verfied to work and charge correctly in another family member's dv6 notebook.  Furthermore, I have access to an HP OEM battery, from a family member's dv6, with which I have confirmed the same issue.  FYI: I replaced my OEM battery about a year ago with an aftermarket battery when my OEM battery stopped holding a charge.  This happened after before my laptop was 2 years old.
So, here's a description of the problem.  About a month ago, even though my laptop was plugged in to the AC adapter, the battery stopped charging.  The laptop continued to work until the battery completely ran out of charge.  Once that happened, the laptop shut down, DESPITE still being connected to the AC adapter.  At this point, as long as the battery was installed in my laptop, with the AC adapter still connected, it would not power up.  The only way I could get it to power up was to remove the battery.  Then, it would boot up just fine, but of course, I was now tethered via the AC cord, turning my laptop into a "thin and light desktop".  If I attempted to put the battery back while the computer was on, connected to the AC adapter, it would shut down IMMEDIATELY.  I took ... Okay, so the type of battery you have is designed to last approximately 1 year (see link below) it has lots of links to other useful docs too.http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00596784 HP & other companies do sell Long life batteries but they cost more.We would ask you to put the unit in our unit and run Battery check which is inside HP Support Assistant, make sure you have the latest version, same for your BIOS Version. You will see there are bunch of tips on how to make your battery last longer, but you really need to start doing them from the start, if your battery is already 1 year old there is a good chance it is low enough on it's capacity to require you buying a new one.You should check out our site, they often have sales, and Batteries would be under accessories.Check out other sites too, compare. Good luck.

My notebook is just stopped booting: When I try to boot it by pressing power button  the power indication light flashes white 3 or 4 times. This cannot be because of low power as I was charging the battery overnight, albeit directly. (I was using wire to charge, connect it to universal AC adapter that wont fit in the pc) This may be because the battery took too much voltage from the direct charging, and many of you may be tempted to scream USE AC ADAPTER IDIOT but I don't have it I may have misplaced it. I bought my hp Pavilion notebook in India. Now I live in the UK. For the last month or so, I've problems with my laptop. Whenever the laptop is on battery, it discharges very quickly. It randomly shuts off (not shut down, just shuts off with a gut wrenching clink of the hard disk) anytime below 50% charge. no notification of low battery or going into hibernation. It may happen in the middle of typing a sentence, or browsing. I ran diagnostics. HP battery check software first showed a "weak battery" result. I was about to order a new battery, when I ran the software again, which now says "primary battery OK". It is very confusing, as even if we agree that the battery has developed a problem, I can't understand why the system is not detecting low battery or putting the computer to hibernate, as per the settings. I've checked drivers - updated. The laptop is just one year and 3-4 months old. Should I replace the battery? Or is it a software error from the new windows 10 upgrade?Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

I have a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC (Product Number F6C70PA#ABG), and since I have upgraded to Windows 10 (current version 10.0.14393) last year I have had nothing but trouble with it. 1) First, when I use the shutdown option in the power menu, the notebook will not turn off; the screen goes black but the fans continue to run, and the Wireless Antenna light goes orange but does not turn off. The power button in the top left also stays lit. The only way to turn the device off properly is to hold the power button down for 5 seconds. 2) But even when I turn the power off by holding down the power button, I have recently discovered that the notebook is still draining power. If it is turned off, and the AC power removed, the battery is completely drained when I next come to try and turn it on. This is despite the fans not running while the power is turned off in this fashion. 3) Also recently, when booted up the notebook takes an excessively long time. After approximately 2-3 minutes from power off, the notebook will display the coastal scene. I press the up key or click my mouse to bring up the login box, but the login box takes another 2-3 minutes to appear. After inputting my password, it takes approximately another 2-3 minutes to finish booting the desktop.  I note that, in an attempt to follow other tech support advice to allow the notebook to shutdown properly (to solve problem 1 above), I have previously turned off the fast boot option.  However, it... Hey there,
I've been using my upgraded Inpiron 17R SE happily for a couple of years by now. I've even gone as far as buying an 128GB SSD to futureproof it. This is the only drive - besides the DVD drive - currently present in the laptop. However I've had an issue for quite a while:
Whenever I try to boot the Laptop only using the Battery (even fully charged) it Posts then loads Windows and turns of just before the Login-Screen (I can't see it). When I proceed to turn it back on, it Posts then beeps and says that there is a Real Time Clock Error and gives me the option to proceed booting or to enter Setup.
This however doesn't occur when using the Power-Brick. Moreover it isn't always the case. Sometimes the Laptop boots and works fine just using the battery, but then upon opening a Programm (while under battery-power) it shuts of and gives the same error message again. If it decides to work the battery still lasts for 2-2.5 hours.
I'm really confused to what the problem is. It could be a power delivery problem, but it's still the original battery and laptop with only the HDD changed to a SSD.
I'm aware of it being a rather old machine, but selling it is my only hope for getting a new laptop for college, but I can't sell it in this state.
I'm at a lost and really really sad because of this issue. I'm sorry for any typos or grammar mistakes, I'm a non native english speaker.

My wife has a two-year-old Samsung notebook. Recently when she unplugged it the machine cut off, even though the battery said 79% charged (it wouldn't charge any further). I figured that the battery was bad so I bought another one from Amazon.

This one charges to 100% percent and does exactly the same thing. I'm perplexed but think there's something going on with the motherboard that won't let it use battery juice, even if Windows 8.1 says it's 100% charged.

I've tried the hold the power button down for 1 min with the battery out trick to no avail.

Any ideas? I'm stumped and think I might need to get her another notebook.

I was playing game few minutes ago and my pc just turned off. He was turned on for 30hours by that time. It wasnt so hot, im using cooler pad.

How can i know what caused this? Could it be the new ram or did i damaged something in it while adding that ram? I also overclocked my gpu, but for now i reverted it and gonna play some more to test it.

It was running without problems before adding that ram.

The battery died a while a go and I did not replace it, so there is no backup power. I checked the battery and the floppy drive to make sure they are fitting securely in the notebook and they're. I'm thinking that it has something to do with the power source. Any insight on trooubleshooting this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:Notebook turns off unexpectively

I would suspect possibly a bad motherboard ( corrosion/short/or maybe lose connection)

I have an IBM thinkpad 800 celeron a22e.

When I turn on the power it powers up but nothing appears on the screen. After several attempts the laptop will turn on but can freeze during boot up or while I am surfing the net, playing music etc. Sometimes it just resets itself & every so often i could get the blue screen.

Sometimes the laptop turns on & can run for hours without any errors.

I like this laptop for basic chores so I would like to keep it so I was wondering if anyone has an idea what could be the problem (internal perhaps) just to save it. If nothing can be done I guess I'll sell it on ebay for parts.......

A:Notebook turns on but nothing appears on screen

I'd like to try that program but who knows when my laptop will boot up again, lol

I've heard people talk about memory as a problem but how does memory go bad? It wears out or something??

The hard disk is new and even when the hard disk isn't the the computer the screen will still be blank. The power Jack is fine. I was thinking maybe the board but memory could be somewhere to start.......

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m notebook that is about 4 years old. I have a Samsung flat panel monitor that I plug in to the notebook, and I had the screens set up side by side I (not sure if this has anything to do with the problem, but who knows).

About three months ago, I noticed that when I would turn my computer on, my notebook monitor had a red tinge to it that would eventually go away after a few minutes. After about a week of this, the monitor started to make a high-pitched hissing sound, and then went black. There were extremely faint shadows of the screen showing, but almost impossible to see. Now, when I turn my computer on, the monitor turns on with the deep red tinge, makes the hissing sound for about 10 seconds, and then goes black.

It seems to me that the monitor is probably fried and needs to be replaced, unless there's some magical fix to this problem. I don't know how much it costs to replace a laptop monitor, and I was wondering if it's even worth replacing on a four year old machine.

My monitor/video card is ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000. I'm not too good with components, so any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

A:Dell Notebook Monitor Turns Red and Goes Out

It's the backlight that's going out. It could be caused by a bad backlight inverter. This is a small circuit board, often right near or attached to the LCD panel that takes DC and transforms it to high-voltage AC to power the backlight, which is a very small fluorescent tube.

The backlight inverter is not too difficult to replace. The backlight itself could be, usually is.

Dust it out. Take some canned air and dust all intake and exhaust ports on the laptop. Heat is the #1 cause of laptops shutting down at seemingly random times.

Turns on.  Fan is running.  Hard drive is running.   Black screen.  No beeps...Blinking LEDs at Caps Lock and by Num Pad.  Blink in unison one time and the 3-4 seconds later blink in unison and so on.  Originally thought CPU was the problem and left her for dead.  I just replaced the CPU with an Athlon II (should be OK on this MOBO).  Same issue.  No luck with an external VGA.  All it does is black screen (it doesn't have the "rainbow display" as if nothing is connected--just black).  I've tried the hard re-boot.  I've tried the pressing windows+B+power button...nothing works...I've re-checked the RAM seating as well.  The Wi-Fi Button is also constantly illuminated orangeish color. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in adavnce!

I should also I add that I had just updated this system to Windows 10 (7 was installed).  Original problem occurred about 6 months ago and she had been turnng off a lot on her own (probably overheating).  I have another laptop so I had left this one to die but after taking an A+ repair course I "grew a pair" and decided to replace the CPU.  I did use new thermal paste BTW.  The external VGA does work with other laptop so that is not the issue

Fans power on, but then off real quick....im lost...
