I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Has Microsoft changed something in the latest April Windows Updates?
I create a default Windows 8 Enterprise VL image on my laptop in audit mode as I have always done previously.  Nothing has changed from my side.
When I install the image via WDS, everything installs fine.
When I use my WIM file to install via USB, it now comes up with:
The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.
right after selecting the install language.
I have checked EI.cfg and it is normal:
[EditionID]
Enterprise
[Channel]
Volume
[VL]
1
I then tried adding PID.TXT with my Enterprise KMS key and, rather than error it then prompts me for a product key.
Surely using the VL install media it should never ask for a product key.  It never has before. (And I've never had to before)
I prepped the image as normal using:
C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:C:\Windows\win8unattend.xml
Any ideas?  I can't but help thinking something has changed in the latest batch of Windows Updates.  It's quite frustrating as not all my machines are capable of PXE, so I have to use USB.
The reason I think it is a recent change, is if I do a default install and DO NOT do any Windows Updates, it all works fine.  Only when I install the latest WU does it start doing this.

A:[NEW] The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.

OK, So I've fixed it now, but I will still like to know WHY this has changed.

If i do this to my WIM, it then installs from USB:

imagex /flags "Enterprise" /info c:\temp\WIM\ME\install.wim "Win8Office2013Enterprise-x86" "Win8Office2013Enterprise-x86"

I wonder because I use the WDS capture image if this has somehow changed recently.
Very annoying, but now at least I can install my custom image :)

I am making a recovery disk for my dell latitude E6440 laptop and began the process to make a Windows 7 professional DVD.  However, the Product Key I found on the computer only has 20 characters and on the Windows download site I received an error,
saying I needed 25 characters.
Not sure where I go from here.  Dell said the Windows 7 professional Product ID was correct.

So short story, I work at a college tech site that fixes student and faculty computers. A foreign exchange student from Japan with a Sony Vaio (most likely from Japan as well) managed to get a virus on his computer and he was blocked off our network. Our policy is that we wipe and reinstall the OS to ensure that the virus is gone. However, we didn't have any Windows 7 Home Prem media CDs so I downloaded a Win7 Home Prem 32bit iso off of MSDN and burnt it to disk. However, when entering the product key given on the bottom of the laptop(and I've checked 3 times now to make sure it's correct), I get a:

"Product key does not match the current Windows SKU" error.

Why is this happening? Do I need a certain burnt iso (from Sony in Japan?) because of the laptop's foreign origins or is something else causing the problem here?

A:Product Key Does Not Match Current Windows SKU (Foreign product key?)

Yes, you need a Japanese iso, they have regional editions.

I will not question whether this is legal or illegal. This comes from Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q328874

For non-corporate users there is this from my own experience: I have on occasion run into three or four customers who attempted what is known as casual piracy by installing his XP onto a second machine. I have had to get only one customer out of this mess (about two years ago or longer) but the workaround was easy. (By the time his grace period was up, he had installed many programs and didn't want to be forced to do it again.) We called Microsoft, gave them a credit card number and they worked us through some steps that fixed the problem.

We then rebooted and was asked for a valid key.

I do not remember the steps as it was quite some time back and I saw no reason to keep notes on it.

Microsoft asked no questions about why he attempted piracy. I think they are just happy to get the money.

I wanna dual boot Windows 8 Consumer Preview with my existing OS, Windows 7 Home Premium. I have created the necessary partitions and also created the bootable pendrive from the ISO downloaded.

When I begin the installation, everything goes fine until the Product Key screen comes up. I have tried 'NF32V-Q9P3W-7DR7Y-JGWRW-JFCK8' and 'DNJXJ-7XBW8-2378T-X22TX-BKG7J' but I get an error message saying 'We couldn't verify the product key. Check the installation media'
When I enter a random product key like '00000-00000-00000-00000-00000' it gives a message saying that the product key is wrong, but when I enter the correct product key I get the error message which I have put in bold statements above.

What shall I do? Please help.

Hi, I'm new.

Right now, I'm really worried. I just bought Windows 7 Ultimate from Ebay, installed it and everything works fine. I tried the Product Key that came with it, but it said on the computer that it was blocked. That's ok, since it said on the page that it wouldn't work.

So I went to a website called Windows 7 Key Sale,Cheap Windows 7 Serial Key,Windows 7 Product Key Store!. as it was the first thing in google. I bought the Windows 7 product key, and I should get it soon.#

Bad Move.

I didn't realise I had service pack 1... it came with the Discs... FML.

Is there any way I can delete service pack 1 before the disk gets here so it will actually work? Thanks so much if you can help.

Microsoft has said that these keys won't work with SP1 windows.

A:Windows 7 Product Key, and SP1 Product Key.

A product key number will activate the Windows 7 with or without SP1 installed.

However, that 2nd site is a pretty questionable website, and would have my suspicions if that product key number was legit or not as well.

Getting your Windows 7 from places like these is quite risky. They have a high risk of being fake, illegal, and loaded with a virus to top it off. It's always best to get your copy of Windows 7 from a more legit retailer, or directly from Microsoft.

I picked up this lenovo laptop and shortly after I got it the HDD went out. I replaced the HDD and Installed a full version of Windows XP SP2 then used the Win 7 upgrade disc I bought. I did a clean install of the Win 7 then I activated it at that time without any issues. Some time after that I started getting the message it wasn't a genuine copy. I rearmed the time period but I'm not able to activate the copy again with the PID. I get the message this product is for upgrade and not a clean install. I need to find out if I will be able to register this copy or if I will need to start over from scratch. I did try putting in another PID but it didn't activate with it. I haven't been able to change the PID back due to the message I am getting about the upgrade not clean install.

I appreciate any help I can get with this issue.

I recently purchased a Precision M6800 (probably one of the last ) and now want to add an external slice-type battery. I did some searches on DELL web sites (my local Belgium one and some international ones) and on the www. This resulted in several product codes for what seem to be the same, or at least similar products: 451-11831 / 451-BBGJ / 312-1351. Can anyone tell me if those are all the same, or at least compatible products ? And more importantly: is any of those (or all 3) really the slice-type battery I am looking for to attach to the docking connector of my M6800 ?

The Windows product key on the bottom side of your notebook is an OEM license key. That means this can?t be used with other Windows versions.

I have been reading posts on seven-/eight-/tenforums for years with pleasure and gratitude for all the solutions they provided. But my current issue is one of the strangest things I've encountered in all these years. Have been searching through a lot of posts but haven't found any similar issue (or solution for it) yet. So here it goes.

Symptom: the OEM product key in the registry of a Windows 7 Pro installation (laptop) does not correspond with the OEM product key in the laptop's BIOS.

Here's the situation in short. It concerns a laptop from a student friend of mine who asked me to upgrade her current Windows 7 Pro x64 OS to Windows 10. She couldn't tell me if the installation was the original OEM factory partition or if it (perhaps) could be a pirated version. Since I wasn't about to just upgrade to Windows 10 without checking the authenticity of the Windows 7 OS, I performed the regular checks: see if it was activated already by running the "Activate Windows" program (check), check under Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> System tab if the OS was already activated (check) and run Microsoft's online Validation Tool (check). Everything seems fine, the OS is activated and genuine.

Still, the COA sticker was missing. My friend didn't have any physical recovery media or other stuff with a license sticker on it. So I thought I'd check the product key stored in the BIOS and compare it with the product key in the registry. If they'd correspond, all would... Read more

There are 3 options. 1 is to Buy a new product key online. 2 is to type a different product key. 3 is to contact Hewlett-Packard Company to resolve this issue. Hi
You have two choices:
You may either reinstall using the recovery partition, if you have one.
or
You could look for the key on the computer. It can be anywhere, including the battery compartment, if you have a lappy.
As a last restort you can try to use magic jelly bean, but I have doubts since you reinstalled.

I own a Dell XPS 8900 desktop computer purchased in late 2015. It came pre-installed with Windows 10 Home. Just this past week, using a legitimate  product key, I upgraded the OS to Windows 10 Pro.
However, I later realized (by way of some quick internet research) that whatever product key was used to activate the Windows 10 Home system that came with the host was actually injected into the motherboard. I did not obtain this information before upgrading to Windows 10 Pro.
My question is this...If for some reason I wanted to go back to Windows 10 Home (by re-installing it from scratch or using some kind of downgrading process), would I need to know what that original product key was or would my instance of Windows 10 be automatically activated due to the built in key in the motherboard?
Note: I tried to use a special utility to extract this key but I wasn't successful.

Hi Everyone,  I just swapped out the hard drive in my ThinkPad T510 and replaced it with a zippy SSD.I installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 thinking I have my Windows 7 COA (clearly visible under my battery). But I was unable to activate Windows 10. I called Microsoft and they said yes, I have a geniune copy of Windows 7 BUT that the OEM (Lenovo) was blocking the activation. I called Lenovo and they said it's a Microsoft issue. I called Lenovo again and they said I needed to pay $45 for recovery discs because my "real" Windows 7 code was secreted in a system board, and once I retrieved that, I would have to install Windows 7 on my new SSD, then upgrade to Windows 10 and the activation would take. Um, really? Isn't there an easier (and cheaper) way to accomplish this? Again, my Windows 7 COA is clearly visible under my battery but it didn't work. What am I doing wrong? And can anyone out there make it right? Thank you so much!

On a recently purchased, from a supplier believed to be reputable, refurbished 64 bit, Win 7-Pro, computer, the product key shown on the affixed COA and the product key retrieved with Magical Jelly Bean are different. In various places I have searched, I think I have learned that this often happens when big refurbishers use special OEM product keys when they refurbish PCs and install newer operating system software. Is this information still correct?

What happens if I choose to replace the existing HD in the PC after a HD failure or if I want a larger HD in the PC? Will the product key on the affixed COA work?

Should I, for the moment, 1) attempt to reactivate the OS with the product key on the affixed COA; 2) do nothing; 3) or something else?

Thank you, in advance, for comments, suggestions, or pointers to an appropriate tutorial.

Do nothing if Windows is currently activated and all is working well. If you ever have to re-install Windows, re-activate it using the Product Key on the COA sticker.

When installing Win 10 as a guest in Hyper-V on a laptop with an OEM licensed Windows 8.1, what key do I use? Does it matter?
Do I bypass the key and activate later? Or do I use the key that my 8.1 host system uses?
I'm concerned that if I use the 8.1 key, that OS will no longer validate and I might be forced to 10 on the host. I just want to preview and test Win 10 before making a permanent upgrade.

A:What product key to use when installing Windows 10 as guest on Hyper-V on Windows 8.1?

You have posted to a technical Windows Server/Hyper-V forum.  There is a separate forum for virtualization on Windows 10 - https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/home?forum=win10itprovirt.  If you were asking about Windows
Server activation, you would contact your OEM and ask them for an activation key for the guests.  Client licensing differs from server licensing, but you should still most likely contact your OEM and ask them.  One of the conditions of an OEM
license contract is that the OEM takes on primary support responsibility for the product they are selling.
You can also contact Microsoft - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/950929

Hi there,

I have a Gateway DX-4822 that I bought in 2010. I am planning to build a custom pc and will probably be switching from Intel to AMD.

I have read that OEM License keys are linked to motherboards and can't be used on a new rig, but some people have mentioned that it's possible to call Microsoft during installation and lie about the situation to get Windows activated on new computer.

These threads are 1-2 years old, so I was just wondering if this is still a possibility? Will save me over $100.

Further, I know this is not the thread for this but I am planning to get AMD FX-6300 along with ASRock 970M PRO3 motherboard. Do you think I can use my old computer case?

No- it's definitely not legal to do what you propose in terms of licensing. (which is not to say that it won't work sometimes)

The Windows license activation key is coded in the BIOS.  Install the OS. When you go online, it should automatically activate.

I recently tried to reinstall Windows Xp Home Edition to another computer, and found that I didn't have a product key for it. I did a bit of research and looked for the UNATTEND.txt file, but there was no file named that. I found this a bit odd and wondered if anyone could help me.

I currently testing Windows 8 on my main PC using a 90 day trial and I was curious to know whether the product key you get using the upgrade offer is usuable for both X86 and X64 like with previous versions of Windows.

Hi Red Kelt Did you upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10? If so, the product key for Windows 8.1 will be used for the activation of Windows 10, yes.

Hey guys I finally got the dual boot working on my laptop and got my version of XP pro installed. As a student at Montclair State University we have a agreement with Microsoft where we receive free XP pro downloads. They product key that they gave me I used with too many computers (3) and now my computer is saying they key is invalid. I do not want my laptop to turn into my desktop and miss the activation time and have to go through a lot of trouble to get it genuine. Does anyone know of a free XP pro product key I could use to get it activated? I know there are tons of them floating around out there... any help is appreciated.

I very stupidly bought a laptop from EBay. It turned out to be a piece of junk. However, it had the Windows XP Home Edition Product Key label with the key on the bottom of the laptop. I didn't receive a Windows XP disk with this laptop. How can I legally use this key to use in installing XP Home Edition or should I just pitch the laptop and say that I learned never to buy anything from EBay relating to computers? Thanks in advance and Happy Thanksgiving.

If you have that sticker you can legally install XP on that machine. You just need a disk. See if you can borrow one from someone.

Hi! I have Dell Inspiron 3521 which was given to me by my sister. It has Windows 8 installed originally, then I upgraded it into 8.1. I used it for over a year since she gave me but then, it's original hard disk died. It was stuck for a year when I finally decided to buy a new hard disk but sadly, the hard disk didn't have an operating system. Now, I want to download Windows 8 from Microsoft and I'm aware that they'll ask for a product key. My question is, can I use the product key that came with this and where can I find it? Thanks!
