Solved: Windows Media Player distorted, Zune player sounds fine

Q: Solved: Windows Media Player distorted, Zune player sounds fine

Windows Media Player sounds somewhat distorted but when I play music in the Zune player, it sounds fine. Why would that be? This would be on a new Dell Inspriron 530 desktop bought in June 08 with Windows XP Pro. Thanks so much.

Preferred Solution: Solved: Windows Media Player distorted, Zune player sounds fine

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It is so weird, it plays the audio in the previews fine, even the vocals, but when the movie starts the speaking parts are muted while you can hear all the background noises! All my volume controls are right, my speakers are set to disable all sound effects. The programs are set to their defaults, I redid the setup for WM Center. I have an Acer computer that came with these programs and Vista already installed. Please help!

A:Zune/Windows Media Player 11

What version of Media Center Edition do you have? MCE2002, 2004, or 2005?

If you are unsure, open up MediaCenter and go to Settings/General/About Media Center/Software Version and this will tell you the version of Media Center that you are running. You can't tell from the properties in "my computer" (that shows the version of XP, not the version of Media Center).

I used to use WMP a lot because I like how it automatically organized my music then I started using Zune to play music but not organize and now I want to use the Windows 8 Music app and am running into some problems.

I have a subscription to Xbox Music and apparently it looked at my playlist and music on my desktop and sent them to my Xbox Music so it can stream the songs from Microsofts server to my laptop and Xbox which I like. The problem is it is redownloading all the MP3's I have as DRM protected WMA files of a lower bit rate often and then the DRM doesn't update and I can't play the songs even though the mp3's are perfectly fine.

1. How can I get it to stop downloading the drm protected wma files of mp3's on my desktop and have the Music App play the mp3's instead?

2. Can someone clear up how the system picks up my mp3's and adds them to a list that I can stream to my Xbox Music devices? Does it only pickup play list or all of my music>

3. Is it possible to have mixed play list with mp3's and wma

4. I am also getting an error eveytime it tries to play a drm protected wma claiming I am logged in somewhere else which I'm not so the Xbox Music server is completely useless on my desktop.

Hopefully someone will please answer my dilemma. I am unable to sync my Media Player music with Zune (protected error). This is outlandish!!! Is there something I might do aside from a hope to be able to return this Zune.

A:Zune with Media Player

I have found the answer myself. When burning cd's to Windows Media the Copy Protect must be unclicked; since I did not understand what this actually meant nor did I know this might prevent using my library of music with ANOTHER Microsoft product I have been forced to RE-BURN my music. In doing so, Zune sync's and works fine. Thanks Tech Support Guy but I found the answer without you.

I want to stream music from my PC to my xbox 360 so I did what my xbox 360 told me to and went to http://www.xbox.com/en-US/pcsetup and followed the directions downloading zune. After I downloaded it the Zune media player acts like my computer has no connection with the classic "page cannot be displayed" and "your computer is not connected" messages. I've made sure that it was on windows firewall's exception list and it was. Also I added several other zune applications to the exception list. I'm positive I have a connection as I can use internet explorer. How might I fix this and what may be the problem?

A:Zune media player giving me trouble

Ok, problem fixed, I had to uninstall zune and all media player related things in add-remove program. I also uninstalled windows media connect. I then installed Windows Media Player 11 which comes with a built in windows media connect. Then I had to download and install a driver for my multimedia audio controller to get the sound working again (possibly because I uninstalled a codec pack). I went to library (in Windows Media Player 11) and clicked media sharing and didn't see my Xbox 360 so I when to advanced settings and checked automaticaly allow new devices (or something similar) and went to my Xbox 360 and attempted to connect. I was so happy when It found my computer. I went back to my computer and my xbox 360 was on the list and allowed.
Also I followed these steps but I don't know if it is what made it work or not:
1. At a command prompt, run: "regsvr32 %windir%system32rsaenh.dll"
2. Reboot
3. Attempt to connect to Xbox 360

I've been having problems listening to music on windows media player and watching flash videos. The playback is choppy (sometimes gets stuck and generally bounces around) but also my system seems to take an age to start up and is slow.

I've run disk-defragmentor, scandisk, spybot, adaware, AVG etc. But no luck.

This has come about since I've put about 20GB of music onto my laptop (I still have around 47GB of 70GB free). However, when Windows Media Player is not open the system still runs slowly and I have no luck running flash videos.

The only possible solution I can think of is deleting the music but I'm a bit hesitatant to do so because it took me ages to put it on!

Anyway, thanks very much for any help you can give me!

I have a *.wmv file that I was trying to play using WMP 10. When playing in WMP 10 the audio runs fine but the video just stays purple.

The video file runs fine on any other computer with the same specifications as above.

Now, here's the weird part that I do not understand. When trying to play the same file over remote desktop, on the same computer where it is displaying just the purple screen, the video runs fine.

Any help would be greatly appretiated.

A:No video but audio works fine in Windows Media Player 10

Try this

turn off overlays
To turn off overlays in Windows Media Player 9 Series or later, do the following:
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Performance tab.
Click Advanced.
Clear the Use overlays check box.

If the problem continues, try turning off the video mixing renderer (VMR). You can turn off the VMR by clearing the Use video mixing renderer check box (available in the same location as the Use overlays check box).
Doing both has always did the trick for me

I tried changing, under video acceleration options, instead of using overlays to high quality video, and that helped the colour problem, but i still sometimes have the green screen. Can anyone help me? Thanks

In the Video acceleration area, move the slider to turn down or turn off video acceleration.

Or updating to the latest version of DirectX.

Hi doj,

I have had this problem for some time now and have finally found a cure (at least it works for me).

Go to VIEW in Media Player.

Select Enhancements and Graphic Equaliser.

Keep the same relative levels if you are happy with the mix, but reduce all levels and the distortion will go away.

For some reason Microsoft seem to have set the audio levels in XP to the point where clipping occurs at modest equaliser levels.

Hope this fixes it for you as it fixed it for me.

However, everything else (Youtube, other internet stuff, any of my computer games) doesn't work. Looked around for a bit, nothing I found seemed to point to why.

You know what, forget WMP and use something else. I recommend you to test ?VLC player?. It can read all video formats and you don?t need to install some codecs. It is for free.

If you will be happy with it you can set it as default player for video format files.

Had a lot of trouble after installing Microsoft's DirectX 7a. Could not use DirectDraw, Direct 3D, or any media players: all would result in a page fault (Kernel32.dll @0137:bff7297c).

After over 30 days of troubleshooting, we isolated the conflict to the Vision 95 which has an option of being or not being installed along with the STB Velocity (Virge VX) 3D drivers.

However, BEWARE OF DIRECTX 7a and especially WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER!~ I shout because ya need to [email protected]

Windows MEdia Player seems to me to be programmed to seek out any and all other media players (ie. Real Player 7), and mess them up big time. I have a 465 Kb .mpg file. It used to play on Real player BEFORE i put Direct X 7a in. Now, it plays 2.4 seconds of the mpg and quits. Also, a .mov, although it plays in entirety, the sound is ABSOLUTELY RAUCIOUS at all volume settings.

INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, both the mpg and mov play REALLY WELL in Windows Media Player.

I did a Add/Remove on Windows Media Player 6.4, and Real Player started having colored lines appearing in the video.

I did a manual uninstall of WMP (delete msdxm.ocx).

    No improvement in Real Player.

Deleted Real Player, defrag/scandisk'ed, rebooted, clean install of RP 7, check out the mpg or mov: NO IMPROVEMENT.

DId a find on anything "mediaplayer2" or Windows Media Player, and deleted.

    Real player? No Improvement.

Went onto Mcafee Clinic, and cleaned the hard drive. Eliminated 83 registry files related to "mediaplayer2... Read more

We are having a problem on a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine running Windows media player 10. It says "this version of media player is incompatible" when you try and open it. We have tried removing version 10, and putting on 9 but you get the same problem. This happens if you download the install file from the website or install WMP from the WindowsUpdate site. Has anyone come across this before, or got any ideas on how to get WMP to work?

    Thanks a lot,

I read some of the posts and Im a bit confused. I got my children MP3 players for Xmas. Here is the steps I took so far. I downloaded the newest version of Windows Media player and took all of the cds to "rip" onto them. They are all on there with no problem. Here is the problem. I will start with my daughters. I got her a sandisk sansa. Opened the windows media player, plugged in the mp3 player to the computer, and it did say sansa read under the drive, so I clicked "copy" and it says error occurred. Is there a step I'm missing? Once this is done, I'll need help with my sons. I got him an archos, but to my understanding both should be compatible to windows media player. I didn't want to download tons of software for each one with differerent "libraries", so that is why I am using media player to begin with. Any other ideas?? Thanks.

Hi there. I've been having a strange problem with MPG videos downloaded from digital cameras. When opening the videos in Media Player there is no audio only pops and squeaks. The same video however plays absolutely fine in the Windows preview pane or in another video player, like Zoom player.

My realtek audio drivers are up to date as is the rest of the system and I've uninstalled and reinstalled Media Player. Any ideas or suggestions?
