Troubleshooting with booting SSD disk HP Probook 6560b

Q: Troubleshooting with booting SSD disk HP Probook 6560b

Hi, guys again !I have another hot and pain in the ass issue. In notebook HP probook 6560b originaly primary disk was Western digital Scorpio black 500GB, but I change them to SSD Kingstone 200V 30GB. I set up boot from optical drive and try installing OS (Win7), however win setup couldnt install because of: 1st-missing drivers, 2nd-disk couldnt see, 3rd-lagy/slowly setup and freeze.. I try set up ahci and ide - didnt work. I bought hdd icy box instead of optical drive and put in SSD with preinstalled OS. It boot fine, after switch on notebook and then hard switch off. Switch on again, with pressing f10. But, if I install 500GB hdd to primary SATA slot for disk, HP bios want only boot from it. It doesnt matter what I set in boot priority, every start up wants boot from 500GB hdd. So, I try install xubuntu 16.04 on 500GB hdd and try set up GRUB boot menu. In OS Xubuntu works SSD fine, but If I want boot win7 fron menu, says no such device.. I try upgrade grub, but nothing change. So, does a HP ProBook 6560b accepts SSD drives? Some solution?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,K N R KAlthough I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP

I have been looking into upgrading my ProBook 6560b recently. I've started to do more video and photo editing for my side business. So I want to upgrade my RAM to 16GB total and upgrade my current 250GB SATA II hard drive to a 512GB SATA III SSD. My current BIOS version is F.63 and I have heard about these notebooks being really unreliable with SSD upgrades in the past. I dont see the point in upgrading to an SSD if I can only utilize it as a 3Gb/s speed which is SATA II speed. Does this lastest BIOS version (F.63) support using an SSD at the 6Gb/s SATA III speed or will I have to run the SSD at 3Gb/s? Also, can I run 16GB of RAM in my machine or will it only run with up to 8GB or RAM? Thank you!

Hi, I was working on my HP probook 6560b last week and i set it to Sleep after an hour during which time i also slept. I woke up the following day but my laptop refused to wake up, the charging light (bolt indicator) will be flashing whenever i connect the power supply or the battery. I have removed both battery and power supply and press the power button for approximately 20sec without success. An urgent help is needed to resolve this as soon as possible. Thank you in anticipation.

A:HP Probook 6560b won't power on

We've had a similar issue with our Probooks.  Below are troubleshooting steps we've taken: Removed batteryPlugged in (via power cord)Turned on. Fan running. NO video. Caps light blinking. Can't ping.No response to Ctrl-Alt-DelNo response to pressing/holding power buttonUnplugged. Plugged back in.Turned on. Boots OK. Logged in.Replaced battery. Turned on again. All appears OK.Nothing in the event logs to indicate a critical failure. We've had these steps work for some of the laptops, but others simply offer no response at all.  Then HP sends a box for us to ship laptop for repair and they replace the system board. Of the 250+ of these we've ordered, I'd say we're looking at a 5% fail rate so far (they're 2 months old).

hi, i recently purchased a hp probook 6560b and wanted to give it an upgrade by replacing the standard 500gb 7200rpm hdd with a 120gb force gt ssd. but the notebook doesn't recognize the ssd at all, it says no drive is installed. the notebook has the latest bios available and the ssd has the most recent firmware. i know the ssd isn't defective because it works just fine in my desktop pc. hopefully one of you guys can help me out. thanks in advance.

A:probook 6560b does not recognize my SSD

When the BIOS doesn't detect an ssd, it's probably caused by the voltage of the ssd. I have noticed that some Probooks and Elitebooks have this issue but nobody could find a proper solution. I would contact the BIOS manufacturer..

Hello Experts, Trying to improve the behaviour of my laptop (Probook 6560b), I've tried to install a SSD instead of the CD unit, by using a Caddy. All good, but the SSD is not installed since it was not validated in the Bios.As the admin account was not implemented at the initial setup of the system, I have no password to recover. Also the fingerprint or the stupid questions were not activated.I use the BIOS pass three times with no error code. The CMOS reset doesn't help, either. So, if you please can help me with the clear BIOS which can help me re-start the admin registration, that will be a great help. Thank you,Emil.

Hi guys I bought Plextor M5S 256gb few days ago. With the latest bios f.40 it was working as SATA2 even when SATA3 in Bios was set. So I have started to looking for some solution and I found one In 6560b we have the same bios like for example 8560p and some 8560p owner tried to downgrade f.40 bios version to f.20 (can be found on 8560p page) and it solved his problem with SATA2 ! So I did the same and here is the result: http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc142/DziubekR1/Beznbsptytu1420ubmp_zpsc010cba5.jpg As we can see, the result is much, much better, but to be honest, still worst then I could seen in reviews. I see that in f.20 bios there is no option to change SATA 2 or SATA 3 like in f.40, it is changed automatic. In f.40 we can chosse, but with my HDD it doesn`t matter whether it was SATA2 or SATA3 set in bios, it was always working as SATA2. The question is why HP did something like that with the latest bios. If there was some problem with SATA3 that we don`t know about, why they gave us the choice between SATA2 and SATA3 in f.40 ? For now it is working without any problems, but maybe we don`t know everything  BTW I was looking for some solution to make my 6560b silent and I found a great program - " TPFanControl by troubadix", version for 4530s works great with our 6560b. You can try it

Hello everybody,

My name is lightyears_away from the Netherlands and I'm having trouble with my HP ProBook. It is running very slowly at startup and during general use. Sometimes I have to wait 10 - 20 seconds after clicking on an application before something happens. Also, when I open the start menu for the first time after start up, I see that the icons of all programs are not yet rendered. An other thing: when I shut down the system, I often get the message that some program is still running and it may be forced to shut down.

Today I have done an extensive malware/adware/virus sweep with several programs and with Ccleaner. Certain files were deleted but I haven't experienced any improvement. I am wondering whether there is some bug/error in my system configuration that is slowing it down.

Maybe one of you heroic experts here could be so kind to advice me on how to improve the performance of my system? I would be very thankful!

First thing I suggest:  Run the chkdsk /r command on the C: partition.

Appears that you have a Dupplica service running...yet no app appears to be installed.  My guess would be that this may account for the VSS errors, since Dupplica seems to assert its own VSS, while Windows has VSS as a native function.  I would disable the currently running Duplicca VSS service.

Hi, I have just installed Win 7 Ult x64 on my laptop. Then I have installed all the drivers needed from HP website and I have installed ESET NOD32 Antivirus. When using my computer I have registered two BSOD so far (it is 12 hours from installation).

The problem:
It is not exactly BSOD which I can see.
I command my PC to shut down - it starts to shut down - there is a sign Shutting down... for maybe 20 minutes and the PC then restarts. When it logs into the Windows a dialog appears that the system recovered from serious error, bsod giving error number 1000009f.

Hey, I've been trying to install Windows Server 2012 R2 for a school project. Sadly, on the HP ProBook 6560b Notebook I've run into a problem with finding the Network Adaptor.  Here's the following driver installs used:-sp54548-sp54549-sp60775 Also, the Intel install for this model's network adapter. All have failed and power cycling didn't contribute. I've seen in past forums this has a solution but all are dead links or a link to the HP Support page that doesn't list WIndows Server 2012 but every other WIndows OS and Linux. I ONLY NEED THE ETHERNET TO WORK. Thank you.

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer, would be to try the W8.1 ethernet driver.  Try manually installing it if the auto install method doesn't work. This package contains the driver installation package for the Intel 82579LM and 82579V Gigabit Ethernet Controller in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63881.exe ...and you tried the driver directly from Intel?  I'm surprised that didn't work either. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23073/Intel-Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-Server-2012... You may want to use the free file utility, 7-Zip and use it to extract the exe file into its driver folder and browse to it from the ethernet controller in the device manager and see if it installs that way.

@Miguel12 Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.html When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request. Or download these files. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zu4kdgxm052l87d/AAAMi-kfX4AVH8oTCbsOM4X9a?dl=0 Insert clean USB flash drive. Then run USB Image tool. Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE. After restore remove flash drive. Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot. ?If HDD is installed remove before booting.? At C:\OUTPUT   type CD.. ?Then hit enter? Type HPBR   ?Then hit enter? First thing is to save your settings. Select #3 re-program. Press ?S? to save system information. Type HPBR and hit enter. Since your model is not listed select ?SHOTGUN.? After reboot repeat ?SHOTGUN? a second time. Some instructions here. ?If you cannot boot from USB there are instructions to make a bootable HDD.? http://mazzifsoftware.blogspot.com/2014/01/hp-bios??-unlock-for-dos.html More help here.http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility?s=ad... REO I must inform you that these services are not endorsed by HP, and that HP is not responsible for any damage that may arise to your system by using these services... Hello, Here is the problem that I've encountered with my laptop HP 6560b. My HDD has crashed and is beyond repair. I've went into the store and bought new HDD-SSD (Samsung 840 pro). I've replaced crashed HDD with new SSD. But to no joy. During WIN7 installation I've came to part where I need to select place where I want to have my new OS. Thing is it's can't be read. So I've dig around the internet and found out that BIOS is issue with these new SSDs. So I've decided to update my BIOS. BIOS is currently on versio 68SCE Ver. When you executed the download BIOS softpaq, did you create a flash bootable key at that point? i assume you used another computer to do that? If you created a bootable usb key from the BIOS softpaq, you will see 3 files 68SCF.BINeRompaq.exegpl2.txt You can then insert the key no the laptop usb port and reboot to upgrade the BIOS. Is this what did not work?

The other day I was in the middle of using my computer, when the computer decided to restart. Now at first I was a little concerned until I realized that the cpu was running hot (the computer had been on for quiet a while and I just recently had increased the core speed to 133, but since I'm running a AMD athalon 2.2+, I felt it should be able to handle it).

With the realization that the computer was at a critical level I turned the computer off and let it sit for a while. Then after an hour or so I turned it back on and everything was working fine. I used it for a while and decided that it probably wasn't smart to stay at the 133 speed so I turned the computer off, and reset the BIOS to return it to the default state.

Well when I tried to turn the computer back on, the fans came on, but other then that nothing happened. There were no beeps to indicate any errors, nor any other distinguishing noises / events.

I have tried to reset the BIOS once more, as well as pulled each part out individually trying to see if any of the peripheral devices were the problem. Yet my computer has remained unresponsive to me.

The only thought that I have left is that my CMOS battery is shot and I need a new one, or that maybe somehow I fried my Motherboard.

Either way if anyone else has encountered a similar problem or has any ideas for me to try out, I would be extremely appriciative.

Thanks,
Siliton

I noticed something loose within my laptop, the bios battery became unsecure and was on my motherboard close by. I put it back into its appropriate place and then reassembled my laptop entirely. Now, using only the battery power, it powers up for about 8 seconds, turns off and then blinks once afterwards. If I have ths powercord plugged into it, it will do nothing, no power up at all and so I went online. Any suggestions?

A:HP ProBook 1320s Laptop not Booting up..

Could be bad power adapter, power port, battery discharged. Reassembling a laptop is a very risky operation, and having a loose CMOS battery laying on mobo would be even riskier.

I'd try another power adapter, check the power port connection inside and out. If necessary disassemble and rebuild. I've never risked this with any but a disposable laptop.

I am having problems printing off of a disk, when I go to print a document a dialog box comes up saying that there is an error in spooling........ and when I click ok another box comes up saying that I have performed an illegal operation. I was told that the disk had gremlins in it before and I have never heard of that before. Can it be fixed?

A:disk troubleshooting

Are you saying that if you copy the file from the diskette to the hard drive and then print it, you don't get this error? Are you further saying that any diskette placed into your floppy drive produces the same problem?

If the answer to both those questions is truly yes, I'd go ahead and drop the five bucks it'll cost you to replace that floppy drive. If, however, the answer to either one is no, well, pitch that diskette and start over.

hi all,

Everytime I have to format a PC I have to go through the same process again and again, reinstalling OS, install software (Office pdf reader etc etc) adding the PC to a domain again and so on.

So what I want to do is like having a image to which I can just restore to any drive and have a basic installation in order to save time and effort, how can I do this? Will a normal backup software do this like Ghost or Acronis?

any help would be really appreciated

Acronis TrueImage can make a Clone or Image file of the entire drive....the image file is quite large but will have everything on the image file so you can restore it....I have a backup on my W7 and Vista

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Dell laptop with XP (professional) that won't boot.

I also have an identical machine with nearly identical software on it that is working just fine.

I burned a CD with boot.ini, ntdetect.com, and ntldr on it that were copied from the good machine. I chose the bootable data disk option and used a standard English boot image supplied by the burning software.

When I "boot" from this disk from either machine I only get Dr. DOS. (Which is crummy because Dr. DOS won't even run CHKDSK!) I'm thinking that I don't have a proper boot disk. Is the "boot image" redundant? Should I just reburn it as a plain data disk? The burning software also gives the option to browse for my own boot image, but I don't know where (what directory) it might be.

Meanwhile, I do have a Linux live CD that boots fine on the bad machine.

Hello, i'm experiencing wierd lags and bugs on my laptop... I've googled bit, and found out that it can be caused by RAM' but today i've got 4gb more ram but problem still here!

A:HP Probook 4530s BSOD after restart/booting up Win7Ultimate64bit

Your BSODs seems to be caused by the Intel HD3000 driver which also appears to be out of date. The AMD driver was also mentioned in one dmp file.

Update both:
Intel Download Center
AMD

Driver Verifier points to NIWinCDEmu.sys, a driver used by multiple ISO mounting programs such as Native Instruments. Uninstall any of those.

Perform a RAM test if none of the above works, post back with your results.

I have a Windows7 64bit system. All Windows and other software is current. Hard drive has been cleaned and defragged. Ckdisk runs clean. Several different Av and malware scans have been run and are clean. Startup programs are at a minimum. Almost every day, the system starts to disk thrash. This will last from 10 to 15 minutes. The disk indicator light is on solid. There is usually only a light load on the system, but there is almost no response. I try to start Performance Monitor, but it does not respond. I try to start Task Manager (clt-alt-delete), but it does not respond. When the thrashing is done, then the monitors appear, too late to help. How can I troubleshoot this?

A:Need help troubleshooting a disk thrashing lockout

Welcome to Seven Forums davenk23.

What you describe certainly has the marks of some sort of infection. They can and do, often disable Task Manager. By "thrashing" I assume you mean constant disk read/write activity? Lets try this.

Please download AdwCleaner:
http://general-changelog-team.fr/fr/downloads/finish/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner
Save to the desktop.

Close all open programs.
To run the program, right-click AdwCleaner.exe and select: Run as Administrator

Click on Search and confirm the prompt.
After the program finishes, a text file report opens.
Please post the content of the C:\AdwCleaner[Rx].txt in your reply. In the reply window click the "#" icon at the top and paste the log text between the [code ] Paste Here [ /code] tags.

Do NOT perform the delete part before I or someone else can read the log.

To delete:

Run AdwCleaner once again.
This time click on: Delete
When done, please post the content of the C:\AdwCleaner[Sx].txt in your reply as outlined above..

Hi there,

I have a friend who owns a Samsung notebook, I'm not sure what model it is, but It has an AMD Processor, 4 Gigs of ram and he bought it in 2014. Yesterday I came to find out that he had a lot of virusses, adware & malware on his laptop, so I tried to delete them by installing an antivirus. For some reason the site from which I can downlaod such programs were all blocked and the laptop was really struggling to perform. After hours of trying to start it up I thought It would be smarter to make a copy of his C drive on an external hard disk and after that, install Windows again, but with an antivirus and all of his files. After we were completed doing those things and trying to copy the backup, we couldn't seem to folders like:"Downloads, Pictures, Music, etc.". The Hard disk has the usual files in the first folder (Programfiles, sources, windows), but when I enter the Users folder I get these files:
Administrator (folder)
EasySurvey (folder)
Local (folder)
Survey0C0A (shortcut)
Survey040C
Survey041E
....
The Administartor and Local folders do not have any of the files we are searching for.
Thank you for reading my post, I hope you could please help me because I'm running out of ideas.

Yours Sincerely,
Ryan Nighel

A:System Hard Disk Troubleshooting

Hello Ryan and welcome to Seven Forums.

"For some reason the site from which I can download such programs were all blocked and the laptop was really struggling to perform."

That's what malware usually does ... blocks websites containing anti-malware help and slows things to a crawl. It might help to visit the anti-malware sites using a clean computer. Most of these reputable sites offer their anti-malware programs in a portable version called "emergency kit" or "portable app", "rescue CD", or something similar. (You install the program onto a CD or USB flash drive instead of trying to download it to the infected machine.) This previous Forum thread has some suggested products to look at:

What's the Best Anti-virus?

And here's a couple more suggested programs:

5 Best Portable Antivirus and Anti-Malware Software To Fix Threats Anywhere

As far as copying your friend's infected C: drive to an external drive, I think that would lead to even more issues. There's no way of knowing how the multiple malware might affect the original C: drive let alone a copy of the drive. I'm not a security expert so hopefully others with more knowledge will jump in with suggestions. In the meantime, I'd try creating an emergency/rescue flash drive or CD and use it to clean the infected computer. Perhaps you can get it clean enough to install a traditional program... Read more

I recently purchased a new laptop running Windows 7.  On setup, I was pleased to find that it connected to my home network without much complaint.  However, I soon noticed a misstep -- after putting my laptop to sleep, upon waking, it
would consistently fail to connect to network.
I've tried disabling IP Helper, as well as the wireless adapter's IPv6 protocola
la advice on other forums.  I've also ensured that the driver settings do not allow for disabling to save power.  Seeing that none of these worked, I decided uninstall and delete the driver and install a newer version (in a related issue,
the driver update feature failed to detect the existence of a newer version -- why?).
This appears to have fixed the connection issue.  However, still, after sleeping the laptop and waking, although it connects to the router, I still need to reset the IP command-line via ipconfig /release + /renew.
I was running Vista on my previous machine, and I know that its Network Diagnostic tool would, when presenting solutions, frequently suggest that my computer had the wrong IP and that I should reset it.  I was hoping throughout this process
that the Network Diagnostic troubleshooter would present a similar option.  Instead, however, no matter what I do with my wireless, the troubleshooter only ever returns the message "Troubleshooter couldn't identify any problems."  Whether or not

Hi,
To avoid confusion Let us focus on the first issue within this thread first.
Can you access internet when connecting the laptop directly via cable?
Where did you download the newer version of network card driver? Usually, the “driver update” feature from device manager will go to Microsoft update catalog website for the corresponding driver instead of the manufacture’s website. AT
this point, I would suggest install the latest driver
here. Please note: Microsoft don't write drivers, for any driver related issue, the OEM is always the best resource to turn to. Your understanding is appreciated.
As a workaround, you can prevent the network card from sleeping by the following method:
Open Device manager->expand Network adapter-> right click on the wireless adapter->Properties->under Power Management tab, uncheck the box before “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.
Is anything unclear, please feel free to post back.

Hello,

My machine has been experiencing intermittent BSODing over the last few weeks and I wonder if you could give me a hand troubleshooting it? I'll summarise what i've done so far. It's not given me anything today, as I say, it's intermittent.

System Info:
Processor Name: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Processor Information: Intel64 Family 6 Model 60 Stepping 3
Graphics Information: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti
Mobo: Z87I-PRO
System BIOS: 0903
Installed System Memory: 16 GB
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (originally installed on system)
Age of system: 1 year, 1 month
OS Reinstalls: None
This is a desktop PC
System Manufacturer: Purchased from ChillBlast
Troubleshooting so far:
* Checked EventViewer for after the crashes. The only useful thing showing is that the Kernel service is shutting down - which I suppose it would if power to it was interrupted.
* Opened up case to check components. Everything seated well. Extremely tidy cabling (if I may say so myself; nothing getting in any fan's way).
* Ran GPU stress test - all fine.
* Ran Processor stress test - all fine
* Ran driver verifier (ran for about 20 minutes) and nothing crashed.

Attached Files:
* PerfmonReport
* Your app collection dump
* IPDT Processor Test results

Appreciate your support :)
