Dell Precision T3500 Internal Speaker

Q: Dell Precision T3500 Internal Speaker

Hello,
I just installed an internal speaker in my Dell Precision T3500. How do I configure a Windows 10 system to use that speaker? The T3500 product documentation references the internal speaker but I haven't found any documentation on how to get it to work. I assume it's a cheap business speaker, so I know the quality won't be great. I'm just hoping for some basic sound out of it.
Thanks in advance,
Rob

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Everyone,
I was hoping to use an old dell internal speaker on T3600, and realized that the pin connector on motherboard (MB) is slightly different. The old speaker was taken from an Optiplex 745. On the 745 MB, the audio port is like one pin, space, three other pins, but on T3600 MB, the layout is three pins, space, one pin. The speaker has four cables, green,[space], black, white and red. I can plug in the speaker but it does not work properly.
My question is if anyone knows the pinout on T3600 MB. I can then rearrange pin receptacles of the speaker to make the speaker work.

Thank you,

DZ

I've been thinking of upgrading to a used Precision T3500. I've looked on wikipedia and pdf's and saw that it comes with either a Xeon 3500, 5500 or 5600 series. Which series is the best one? I'm assuming the 5600 series is the best one. And if so, anyone know which cpu in this series is the best one offered for this particular system?
 Thanks

Hello,

I wanted to upgrade my T3500 So I bought a 24 gig tri-channel memory, but I bought 3 8 gig modules.

After purchasing it, I discovered that the largest size memory module is 4 gig.

So, my question is, will 8 gig memory modules work?  Re-stocking fee is 15 dollars, if I return the memory.
Thanks in advance!

A:Dell Precision T3500 Anyone use 8 gig Memory module?

NO
Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-8500, DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 (ECC)
Maximum Memory: 24GB
Slots: 6         x   4 Gig per slot.

Recommended Upgrade

12GB kit (4GBx3)  DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.5V • 512Meg x 64 •   •  Part #: CT1029950

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Hi to all on Dell's Forum:
I am new on this forum and its first time to ask a question on any forum.
My first question: What are enhancement in dell t3500 new bios update for the whole hardware in dell t3500?
i.e "A17"
My second question: Does Dell t3500 can support pc3 12800 NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 like Corsair Vengeance or kingston hyperX. Does A17 Bios can run pc3 12800 at 1600 MHz, because dell bios are not too flexible, I have googling too much and I mostly found that dell t3500 only support 1066 and 1333 MHz. Some particular  processors are only support 1333Mhz like xeon W3580 etc, rest of all processors operate with 1066 Mhz.
But I have little doubt when I have opened these links:

I have mostly used this pc for home tasks like gaming, internet, office works, music etc. As a gaming rig I want to upgrade more memory for gaming with non ecc pc3 12800 at 1600 module.
Please help me in that issue. All your kind comments, assistance and suggestions are highly appreciated.

A:Dell Precision T3500 Memory Configuration

ESANELAHI,
BIOS: I'm not certain of the enhancements, but I'm quite certain updating to the latest BIOS is recommended.Much has happened since the T3500 was made- operating systems, commonality of SSD's and etc.
Memory:  The T3500 may use up to 24GB ECC or non DDR3 ECC RAM at speeds up to 1333.:
www.dell.com/.../q2wk6_dell_precision_t3500_spec_sheet.pdf
As far as I know, DDR3 1600 speed memory if used may be recognized, but would run at 1333 as the Xeon 5600-series support 1066 and 1333 speeds.   In my experience, the best way to ensure successful memory upgrades is to concult the specifications- see above, and then remove a RAM module and record the exact information on the RAM used in the system. You will see if it's single or dual ranked, that's the "1R X8 or "2R x8", ECC or non-ECC, and if it's ECC, if registered or unbuffered. If it's ECC and used with the X58 chipset which uses triple-channel RAM,  I have a vague memory that you need to use "registered" memory which was more common in servers.  I've never used non-ECC RAM,  but I believe that ECC and non-ECC use different slots, and you would have to use whichever type the slots mounted on the motherboard require.
If the RAM is ECC, the best specification might be something like: "1Rx8 PC3-10600R"- single rank DDR3 1333 registered ECC.  Single rank is a bit faster as the signal is passing through fewer chips. That is n... Read more

Hello, my dell precision t3500 started showing symptoms of bad Heatsink since december 2015.  It has been restarting several times and showing "Previous shutdown due to thermal event.".  In the first few weeks it used to shutdown like twice a week. Currently i get a lot of shutdowns. I can't use my computer for 3 hours, it shuts down at least once every single hour.
What i've done so far....(My solutions)
I rubbed off the heat sink compound between the processor and heatsink and applied new heatsink compound. This didn't help.  The computer was still shutting down due to thermal events.
I read on a forum where someone was having a shutdown problem just like me and a dell expert advised him to upgrade to the latest bios. I was running the latest bios at the instant when my computer started shutting down due to cpu excessive temperature. I tried downgrading the bios from A17 to A14, now the computer would stay for 3-5 hours without shutting down. Downgrading didn't help either.  I know that the old bios had a greater temperature threshold and that's the reason for the computer staying longer before detecting a excessive cpu temperature than in the A17 bios version. Ok, so processor upgrade/downgrade didn't help either.
i wen't out to a computer store and bought a new Heatsink for my dell precision t3500, i removed the old HeatSink and replaced it with the new one. The computer booted just fine, stayed up for 3 hour... Read more

A:Dell Precision T3500 Shutdown due to thermal event

What's the actual full error when the thermal event occurs?  Usually there are multiple temp sensors on a machine - does error say which one is causing thermal event?
I'd see what all temps actually are and monitor them.  What does HWMonitor or HWiNFO (Sensors window) say temps are when system is idle and under load?
What CPU are you using?  Thermal shutdown threshold within a CPU is often around 100C, which usually is pretty hard to hit for a desktop (as opposed to a laptop).
What heatsink compound are you using?  Is it making good contact but thinly applied?  You can check this by removing the heatsink - compound should be pressed out and thin enough to "see through it' evenly across surface.  A thick application has poor thermal properties because thermal compounds are much poorer conductors of heat (~8 W/mK) than copper (~400 W/mK) or aluminum (~200 W/mK).
I'd also check for dust/blockage on case air intakes and fans (including the PSU fan) - this can cause poor heat removal from the case and resulting heat buildup.

Hi,
I decided to spice up the old T3500 we had here with an X5640 cpu in stead of the original 3504!
It works, but under full load its getting rather hot.
Using real temp i see temperature differences to tjmax decreasing to about 8°C corresponding to an increasing absolute temperature of  92°C. Then i got scared and turned of the prime95 test.
Looking at the temperature monitoring graph the temp-s were not reallz converging yet, and would have incresed for a bit more.
We used artic silver thermal compound, and also the sink is getting really hot, so i dont think its a problem with the cpu-cooler mounting, we got these cpu-s in some other systems (HP Z600, and some self build systems with supermicro boards and coolers) , in all of those systems they need quite a bit of airflow, to keep  them under 80°C.
This little old t3500 however remains as silent as ever.
I also already dissabled Intel® Turbo Boost Technologie, but still it runns hot at stock speed.
I was always happy with the silent cooling and thermal control, with the stock cpu but now i like to make it a bit less quite and a bit more cool, but i couldn find any temperature control or fan speed managment in the Bios.
Is there any way to contol the thermal managment, speed up the fans?
It was also the first time i saw an lga1366 socket with these funny custom cooler connection.
Are there any other coolers available for the T3500?

A:Dell precision T3500 Temperature control/ fan speed settings?

Its entirely possible that your arctic silver compound is fake. (It should look Black and Test for silver)
The chemical test is obtained from Jewelry store supplier.
You may need to remove the heatsink and clean the cpu and heatsink completely.
Lapping or polishing the heatsink where it contacts the cpu can also help.

Adding a Fan that sucks air and vents out the back via the Slots can help.

So are there headers on the motherboard that will control the fans for me?  If so, where are they?  Do they just take 3-pin connectors?  If not, did you have to adapt the fans to a molex connector?  How did you do it?

Last week, I purchased a Dell Precision 5510 with Windows 7 and the audio was working fine, but on Saturday night I was watching a video on Netflix when the right-side speaker started to crackle. I followed the instructions on a number of tutorials including reinstalling the RealTek audio drivers and switching to the windows default drivers, but none of these things have gotten rid of the crackling.
Of note, the crackling only starts when the audio is raised somewhere around the 50% capacity mark or beyond, but it is a constant and persistent annoyance at that point.  I am of the belief that this is a hardware issue at this point, but any insight others could provide before I contact Dell Support would be appreciated.

A:Dell Precision 5510 Crackling Sound from Right-side Speaker

Hi waxenwings,Thanks for posting.Does this exist using external speakers or just the internal ones?  Have you tried headphones? In some cases, this may be caused by a conflict with SRS audio enhancement package and Adobe Flash. This has been escalated.Possible solutions include uninstall the SRS Audio package from Add\Remove Programs-Programs and Features. Reboot and test the system. Update Adobe Flash. Reinstall the SRS Audio package from Drivers and Downloads from support.dell.com and test again. If none of that's working, then contact Tech Support for additional troubleshooting.

I ordered About 10 sticks of Dell SNPP9RN2C/8G For my T3500s , These are 8gb PC3-10600 sticks. Here is a link. ( it is the 1st Type of Ram offered) http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/PfydFeaturedCategoryResults.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&mfgpid=201440&chassisid=8560&stype=2&Tab=After putting these sticks in a t3500 I was receiving "non optimal ram config" error (the bios see's the 8gb stick). I could not get rid of this so I tried to only put the 8gb stick in. This caused the pc to not boot at all. After looking up some stuff I found the tech manual for the t3500. Reading this I found out the t3500 only supports up to a 4gb stick per slot. Then I thought why would dell make this the 1st option when you go to purchase upgrades for a t3500. Also, On the web page for the the RAM, The 1st table does not show the t3500 listed for compatibility. However, The list lower on the page does. Now after all this I Find BIOS update A11 says this under "fixed & enhancements" "Enhanced the memory map algorithm for 128GB configuration" . After installing the latest BIOS update (A17) and trying the ram again, Only putting the 8gb stick in , I still dont boot.(http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails?driverId=J7N1X&fileId=2964784371 )Does A17 not contain this memory change? Why would dell offer this ram for the t3500? Or am I just missing something?

Have you tried installing a pair of those 8-GB sticks together in slots 1 and 2?
Are you sure you know which one is slot 1, etc? Slot 1 may or may not be the first physical slot and it may or may not be the slot closest to the CPU. Unfortunately, the manual doesn't show which one is slot 1.
I'll see if I can get a Dell tech to review your post and respond here...

Dell website says it wasn't tested and no win10 drivers will be developed. Is it safe to set up a dual boot and try win10 that way?

A:Will Precision T3500 Run Win 10?

No that will not work. Windows 10 is a free upgrade for win 7 & 8.1 users and you must replace your current operating system or buy win 10 for $150-200. As a windows 10 tester and user, I recommend you stick with your current OS especially if you have windows 7. Windows 8.1 users who have Dell approved models might want to upgrade later on in the year. You have until July 29th 2016 to get the free upgrade.
Since Dell does not provide drivers for that model you would have to depend on win 10 for the right drivers. Wait until you replace the computer to get windows 10.

Hello Dell community!
Yesterday I did a motherboard swap in my E6420 from the Intel HD board to the Nvidia board.
Everything seems to be working fine, except the internal speakers won't work in the OS.
I booted into the built in diagnostics, tested the audio, and it played the tones of audio through the speakers.
I have a suspicion that because I did the Motherboard swap, I can no longer use the old IO board due to it being a different size, the audio device may be on that as it has the headphone jack.
Also, I know it uses a different sound device, but the HDMI audio works just fine.
Any help would be appreciated!

So the other night I heard some crackling noises coming from my laptop and then the sound just stopped working altogether. I pretty frequently plug and unplug a set of external speakers in the headphone jack so I figured this might be the issue. Sure enough, when I apply pressure with my finger over the headphone jack opening the internal speakers work fine. When I release the pressure the internal speakers stop working. I kind of smacked the laptop on the side a bit and it seems to be ok for now but I'm guessing the only way to fix this permanently if the issue returns is to open the laptop and secure anything that might be loose near the headphone jack. I have never opened up my laptop before, if I do have to do this are there some precautions I should be taking to ensure I don't completely mess it up?

Hi lucky512,
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
Request you to please remove the memory modules from the system, try one memory module at a time in each slot and then test the system. It could be the memory module or the memory slot on the motherboard causing the problem. You can also try these memory modules on another system to test. Memory error has occurred please refer to this link http://dell.to/1gOqfpM.

I have seven T3500 workstations and need to replace the motherboard on one of them. After pouring through the forums I've found there were three revisions of the motherboards.
DELL P/N:
9KPNV

Below are the motherboard P/N and manufactured dates of the five T3500 workstations I've looked at so far.

P/N
MFG DATE:

24-JUN-09
XPDFK
11-DEC-09
9KPNV
02-SEP-10
9KPNV
25-FEB-11

I'd greatly appreciate it If someone could help me figure out which motherboard P/N is the latest revision.

A:Precision T3500 Motherboard Revisions

Looks like 9KPNV.  That said:
These older Precisions are prone to bad capacitors, and with the newest of these being six or more years old, if you can find a board where the seller can guarantee the capacitors have been replaced, even if it's an older revision - you're better off.
You're likely to find that just about any of these on which the electrolytic caps haven't been replaced is very likely to suffer capacitor failure in the near future.

I have a quick question about the heatsink installed in my Precision T3500. There seems to be 2 different heatsink's that may be installed depending on the CPU's TDP.
There is this one

And there is the performance heatsink that seems to be for CPU's with a higher TPD

Now in my T3500 I have the smaller heatsink with no heatpipe's but since the CPU installed in it is the Intel Xeon W3550 (130W TDP) should it not have the bigger heatsink with the heatpipe's?
I am very interested in knowing the answer to this as while I am writing this post my CPU is basically idling but it is almost reaching 50 Celsius.

We have 4 T3500's all with the W3503 Intel Xeon 2.4GHz Dual Core Processor. They all have the copper heatsinks. After a lot of research I found that they can be upgraded to any of the W35XX processors (just a question of what we want to pay). When I checked out the W3520, I found out that it was identical to the i7 920 processor.
Has anyone upgraded a T3500 with an i7 processor?

I have a Dell Precision T3500 with a Quad Core Xeon that is shutting down due to the CPU / CHIPSET  Temperature Out of Range.  The fans seem to be working and the air ducts are clean, does anyone have any insight on what would cause this?

A:Precision T3500 CPU / CHIPSET Temperature out of Range

Hi w270,
I suggest you to update the BIOS to the latest version and check. To update the BIOS follow the below mentioned steps:
1. Visit the following website: http://dell.to/17F08dH
2. Enter the Service tag of the computer in the box provided and click “Submit”.
3. In the next page, click drop down arrow to select the Operating System which is installed in the computer.
4. Under category BIOS, click “Get driver” and save the file on desktop.
5. Run the file and restart the system.
Check the functionality of the system and post the results.

Does anyone know if the Precision T3500 supports Port Multiplier? I know my Optiplex 960's do. I have googled and looked through the two PDF's I found on the website but could find no mention. Maybe I missed something. If all else fails will try with hooking up the external drive enclosure and see if it works.
Thanks for your time in advance.

A:Precision T3500, support Port Multiplier?

Neither the training page nor the parts page for the 2009 Precision T3500 list a Port Multiplier. This tells me that Dell never actually tested one in this model. Hopefully another owner can post their findings.

Which of these CPUs would be best for gaming?  Or is there any real difference?
Xeon W3670 (3.2GHz 6C/12T)
Xeon X5687 (3.6GHz 4C/8T)

One has more cores, the other has faster clock speed.  I have 24GB 1066MHz ECC RAM now, but would be willing to change to 1333MHz if I got the quad core.

24 Gigs is max specified ram. XEON's are not noted for gaming.

I'm doing up an old T3500 and want to make use of liquid cooling, obviously I will need to buy a new case and transfer the mainboard into it, however the motherboard does not seem to be normal ATX size and am wondering what the actual size/design of the motherboard is (taking into account screw hole positions?) so I can buy the right case that supports this motherboard?

A:Installing Precision T3500 motherboard into a new chassis?

There was discussion on this quite a while back.  The power on Button being the one "Important" thing.  However I think the thermal sensor for the board is also on the front panel so I further doubt that this is a "solution"
It cant be 17 and 20 perhaps 19 and 23 or is it 4 pin 17 and 23?
Disclaimer It may or may not work. I'm not willing to ruin a board to find out.

This ~2010 W/S (Quad Core) was recently updated to Win 10. Everything was working good and then I installed a 3.5" floppy (this unit has a IDE floppy connector) and configured the floppy in Set Up. Upon reboot I get this: "Alert! Memory failure detected in DIMM 2. Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to - - - -." I don't think there's a memory problem. Diagnostics shows everything 100% OK. Once I got the floppy to work, but none of my USB ports worked. So then I took out the floppy (USB ports OK,) and now I can't get the "Alert!" boot error message to go away. I'm resigned to forget the floppy (unless someone has the exact answer to get it to work) but need to clear up whatever is causing that error message to keep showing. Thanks for any help.

Is it possible to swap out the 525W PSU in my Precision T3500 Workstation with an 875W PSU from a Precision T5xxx Workstation?  If so, will I have to swap out the wiring harness as well?

If the harness has to be swapped out, do all the motherboard connectors match up with my T3500?  Thank you.

Hello!
I have installed a new Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card in my Precision T3500 into the first PCIe x16 slot and was not able to install the drivers: the screen would go blank and the computer would just freeze in the middle of installation.
That same graphics card works just fine in the second PCIe x16 slot with all the latest drivers installed and even with some overclocking of GPU memory.
When I moved the graphics card to the first PCIe x16 slot after the successfull installation of the driver, the computer would not boot and would just start beeping. When I moved the graphics card back to the second PCIe x16 slot it worked just fine.
Why would the graphics card work fine on the second PCIe x16 slot, but not on the first PCIe x16 slot? What is the difference between these two PCIe x16 slots in Precision T3500?
Thanks!

P.S. To illustrate this: when I say first PCIe x16 slot I mean the blue one, and the second PCIe x16 slot is the black one.

A:Precision T3500 and PCIe x16 graphics card, Windows 10 x64bit

Hi varmatev,
Both slots should work the same so it sounds like one of them is faulty. Do all the pins on the connector look perfectly aligned?

I have a T3500 with Xeon Hexacore W3670, 24GB ram, and I have a Zotac GTX 970 4GB GPU. I looked at the requirement specs and notice I should meet all requirements except the CPU is questionable. i5-4590 is obviously much newer 3.3ghz quad-core vs 3.2ghz hexacore, but I'm wondering if anyone can tell if the CPU should be okay or not. Thank you.
For the full Rift experience, we recommend the following system:

Video Card NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater

CPU Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater

Memory 8GB+ RAM

Video Output Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output

USB Ports 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port

OS Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer

A:Is my Precision T3500 w/ Xeon W3670 Oculus Rift VR ready?

You've got more cores (6 vs. 4) with your W3670 as well as HyperThreading (which i5-4590 doesn't have).  Memory speed of W3670 is slower, but that shouldn't matter.
Provided there isn't some required CPU instruction the W3670 is missing, key difference is single threaded performance.  Base clock on yours is 3.2 GHz vs. 3.3 GHz.  More important is max turbo:  3.46 GHz (1/1/1/1/2/2) vs. 3.7 GHz (2/3/4/4).  Numbers in parentheses are Turbo steppings from all cores active to a single core being active.
I would verify TurboBoost works with your T3500 (HWiNFO64 is only reliable way I've found to monitor this).  (I have a Dell LGA 1366 socket machine from the same era, and Turbo doesn't work for 6 core CPUs.)
You're probably ok with extra cores and HT making up for slower single threaded performance.
Worse comes to worse you could upgrade to a W3690 (3.46 GHz base, 3.73 GHz max turbo).  About $200 on ebay.  Or, you can probably "overclock" Turbo (since the Xeon should be unlocked), although you might need a better cooler for that.

I have looked at the 2 pdfs on the web site for the t3500 and could not find anything on changing the 3.5 external bays from vertical to horizontal .  Is this the way they were made and not changeable ?

Hi jfmy787,
I'm afraid it's not possible, The DVD drive is fitted in a cage which slides into the chassis housing and can't be rotated.

Hello,
I just replaced the stock CPU in my Precision T3500, going from an e5520 to an x5660.  Both CPUs will heat up beyond their TCase values, 72C and 81.3C respectively, when using the stock passive Dell copper heatsync.  Is there an active heatsync available for this system?  The OEM heatsinc setup uses female bolt downs instead of the standard male ones.
Also, I'm noticing a 5C difference between my coolest temp core and the next coolest temp core and an 8C spread between my coolest core and my hottest core.  Is this normal?
Thanks in advance,
Rob

A:Precision T3500, two Arctic F8 80mm case fans lowered temps from 81C to 70C

Hello Chris,
I received two Arctic F8 80mm case fans today along with a molex to 3-pin fan adapter.  The difference in thermal performance is profound.  I've attached four pictures, one of the fan box, one of the back of my case, one of the inside of my case, one of the molex adapter, and an updated thermal profile.
With the latest test, after installing the fans, the system seemed to stabilize round 70C.  Although, I only let the test and monitor run for about 15 minutes.
I hope this cooling method helps others.
Thanks,
Rob

I am running Windows 10 Professional with current up-to-date updates on my Dell Inspiron Laptop.

Several days ago I noticed that plugging in current headset no longer muted the internal speaker. I know that it is not the headset as it works perfectly on another computer.
.
Doing a web search has not resulted in finding the problem, let alone a solution. Further my anti-virus is up-to-date, as are the microphone and speaker drivers.

Pointers in the direction of a solution will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A:External Speaker Fails to Mute Internal Speaker

What audio codec does your laptop use?

It will be listed in device manager. The VEN DEV combo will be enough information.

You'll find it in the device properties details tab, specifically, the "Hardware IDs" section.

It will resemble this:

Code:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0288&SUBSYS_10EC0191&REV_1000
Usually the audio codec chip itself will detect an external speaker is plugged in. Have you checked your audio device's configuration software? It should have a shortcut in the classic control panel.
