I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I apologize in advance, I just signed on to this site and don't wish to be incorrect in any way in asking a question but here goes:
Dell laptop using broadband wireless, can't get on internet in any way, all attempts are automatically redirected to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=74005.

I will download any appropriate software to disk and begin working on the problem by reviewing other peoples issues with auto redirect but wondering if it is a virus or what is out there that's doing this? Is it possible for me to get it fixed enough to get back on line and then continue the fix? Thank you for any assistance.

I went and downloaded HACKThis. Here is first log (after this is the second log, after I started researching what to remove, I still have more work to do on this because it's still not working). Thanks for any assistance:

Hi, I've been having this problem. When I start my computer, the whole screen is white for awhile, then it turns black. There is no windows startup logo or my computer brand logo. Then my screen starts flashing and the power button on my monitor blinks and the monitor makes TOK sounds every 2 seconds and then the screen flashes and starts doing that over and over until it decides to make the whole screen white and stay like that. Here's what it looks like:
I tried manually restarting my computer by holding the power button and after a few tries, sometimes, if I'm lucky, it will let me login and then everything is fine.
Today, I went through this process and today I tried turning off the monitor when the screen was white. It restarted and black flashing but made the screen turn white faster. I just kept trying, turning the monitor off and on again because I didn't know what to do. Then I was so lucky, the login page for windows came up and I was able to login; now everything is normal. I can go online and everything without any problems until I shut down my computer and start it up again. Then it's back to square one.
Can anyone help me fix this problem? Should I buy a new monitor? I've had this one for a few years, but my desktop is new; It's one year old in 3 days. (April. 4)
Thanks in advance!

Hi. I have had this problem for many months now and have tried to remove the infection manually using instructions found on ehow, using Norton Antivirus, malwarebytes and spybot search and destroy. Nothing has been successful at removing it. I have just been using my laptop instead of my desktop because I don't want to use an infected computer. The computer is running Windows XP Professional SP3. I receive notifications from Norton that an intrusion attempt has been blocked. When I go into the log, I found that there were three high risk log entries, one for HTTP Tide Serv Request2, one for HTTP CrimePack Activity 1, and one for HTTP Nukesploit Request. As I mentioned this has been going on for months now. At the beginning it was mostly just HTTP Tide Serv Request2, the other two are new today. I'm hoping you can help me, otherwise I'm going to have to reinstall Windows, which I'd like to avoid doing. I hope I have included enough background. My scans are below and attached. Your help is greatly appreciated!

I unstalled Comodo Time Machine after I realized I had made a mistake in setting it up, and then when I tried to re-install it (there was no option to go back and rectify my mistake), it told me the software was "already installed on my computer" and would not re-install.
I used Revo Uninstaller to remove the program, then CCcleaner to tidy up, and also went thorough my registry with CCleaner and manually checking for breadcrumbs and stuff CCleaner tends to miss.

BTW, specs:
I am running XP Professional Edition, service pack 3.
I use Rising Anti-Virus (never had a problem).
I've also tried Glary Utilities (desperate) to no avail.
CTM still thinks it is installed on my computer. I am sure there are little lurking elements somewhere where I can't find them with my limited skills. When I startup, there is a CTM splash screen detailing how it is "creating a restore point," although no other related files to this can be found, as far as my digging has shown me. Additionally, I have tried re-downloading the program and reinstalling, to no avail. Still tells me the program is already installed.

I would like to get rid of the splash screen, and remove all remaining parts of the program. This make be as simply as deleting the logo file from my system, but since I like to run a clean machine I want to make sure to scrub the rest of the traces, if there are any. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Hello,I recently encountered what I believe to be a spyware/trojan problem on my laptop which is running Windows XP. The problem started about a week ago when a fake security alert came across my desktop saying "Attention! System has encontered a potentional problem..." I ran Spybot Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes Anti-Maleware (I already had these programs installed). These both removed a number of problems. I also have McAfee anti-virus software running. I also ran a scan with this. As of now the fake desktop alerts are gone, however, when I run a Google search and click on a result, I am redirected to some random website. I also have tried to reboot my computer in safemode but when I do this the screen gets hung up on the follow driver and goes no further:Multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)parition(2)WINDOWS\System32\Mup.sysDDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Tiffany at 16:38:16.95 on Sat 01/09/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_13Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.502.141 [GMT -6:00]AV: McAfee VirusScan *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {84B5EE75-6421-4CDE-A33A-DD43BA9FAD83}FW: McAfee Personal Firewall *enabled* {94894B63-8C7F-4050-BDA4-813CA00DA3E8}============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcsC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k WudfServiceGrou... Computer covers whole screen with either white, or white with black, and blue stripes. Multiple times a day.?
This computer was bought in 2005, (HP Media Center PC). Within the second week this freezing(it freezes, and the screen has a white or white with black and blue stipes) occured( yes second week, my brother was uninformed and thought it was normal and didnt return it. It happened often enough as to save anything you were working on every ten to twenty minutes on a bad day. It settled and slowly became less of a problem, then stoped. One day he got a virus and had to restore the computer, the freezing started up again. same as last time, it settled then stoped, a month later, i recieved this computer as a hand me down, as my brother went to college and got a MAC. That was in mid summer of 2008, a week and a half ago, i got a huge virus, i restored my computer, and the freezing started up again, after not doing it once for over a year. It has gotten as bad as freezing every 30 minutes some nights. And earlier today it froze, i turned off and on my computer, went down stairs, and when i came back it was frozen again. I had not even used and program. Please help if you have any idea whats wrong!
Things to keep in mind...
-It only happened after the computer was restored, or bought(ish)
-Its not a normal freeze where you see the programs on the screen still, the screen goes completely white, or white with black and blue stripes.
-4 years old

A:Screen Freezes and turns white or white with stripes

Then maybe it isn't freezing at all. Maybe there's a problem with your monitor, vga cable, or video card.

Try a different monitor/cable and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, then try reseating the video card--if any--and if that doesn't work I suggest getting a cheap one from someone's old pc at least to test with.

Installing a new video card can be complicated, but google search for a guide or follow the setup instructions for the video card to the letter and you'll have no problems.

Let us know what's going on, we love to help here... it's like an addiction, but we can stop anytime... really we can.

Welcome to TSF. I know I come off a bit strange, but most of the people here are friendly... and nowhere near as messed up.

Ie freezing and louder fan noise. I did recently update the bios and a pci device driver that never installed. But now it has white screen this morning. I shut off and powered up and still white.
I took off battery and pressed power for 10 sec plugged back in and still white. Still no noise.
Any ideas?

Try attaching an external monitor and notice what it displays...

I have the same problem. When turning on the laptop screen goes to white, I can hear windows starting but cannot see anything. I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded. I then took the whole laptop apart and discovered the LCD cable was frayed due to a faulty laptop hinge. I replaced the cable and it was the same, just white. The problem I think is with the motherboard and the intergrated video card. Upon taking the whole thing apart I noticed that where the video card plugs in is right where the heat sink is and the cooling fan which gets exceptional hot. I figure it has fried the board to the extend the monitor will not work where it is plugged in, but the external monitor will work but only when windows boots. So sad to say because of the the heat this laptop puts off and if you have it sitting on your lap or bed or anywhere else that it cannot cool properly it has over heated and you will have to get a new motherboard.

"I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded"... This is normal behavior because the video signal to the external monitor is not sent until Windows loads. If you can see normal video, the motherboard video chip is good

Ever since I got this notebook, all I've had are problems, and HP has never been able to resolve a single problem. It's like the warranty is completely meaningless. They didn't even replace defective parts, let alone replace the entire notebook.I've had problems with the hard disk, and was told we can't solve this problem as this is a problem with every envy notebook.I've had a problem where dust is building up inside the screen (between the screen and the external glass cover), and I was told I need to send the notebook to the service centre (even though I have an "on-site, at home service warranty? for 3 effing years). This one time, one HP tech even told me "ENVY NOTEBOOKS DON'T SUPPORT VLC PLAYER, YOU MUST PLAY MULTIMEDIA USING WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER ALONE". NOW, I have a white line appearing on the top corner of the screen, and HP said I need to take a picture of the problem in the BIOS. The BIOS itself has a white background. How can I click a picture of a white line on a white background? If I write with white ink on a white paper, can anyone read it? I explained this precisely, and was told "Since the issue is not present in BIOS, we need to check if this can be covered in the warranty". WELL, THE ISSUE IS PRESENT IN THE BIOS, IT?S JUST THAT IT CANNOT BE SEEN AS IT?S WHITE ON WHITE, AND YOU WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS AND NOT REPLACE MY LCD? The issue is present in live linux USB sticks as well! All you need to reproduce it is a DARK BACKGROUND. ... Read more

However, on Google webmaster tools there is a message saying that it is still present on http://gavindouglasfashion.com/ (i.e. without the www. after the two slashes //)

Is anyone able to advise as to how I can resolve this as there is no virus present any more but I can't get a successful review from Google.

I have read and tried many different suggestions, but I have no idea what is going on. The white on my dad's laptop is showing up with thin aqua vertical stripes in it. I have tried many different things (system restore, updating drivers, etc) and nothing has worked. The only thing that helped a little was when I calibrated it and it made the white in the window look white, but everything on the desktop that was supposed to be white, was not.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?

I have a new laptop with a gig of Ram and very few programs on it. It runs Vista. I've been building a huge mansion in Sims 2 (basic prog only) and it's run just fine. I have about 17,000 items of CC and it still ran fine.

Yesterday I discovered I could change some settings and make the picture more detailed so I did so. Things looked so much better but as I began having a display driver error message I figured I would see if mine needed updating. I had trouble finding the right one but finally did on the Gateway site. It said my driver is up to date.

Today I was testing out some new CC files and the game began crashing so I worked and found the bad files. The game was working ok.

I began slowly putting some of the files I had removed back in to be tested. I was trying to make it easier by renaming the downloads dir to downloads2 and making a new downloads dir.

At some point, and I can't recall exactly when, I began not even being able to load the game at all. I'd start it and before it even reaches the first screen I began getting this white box with a red box with a white X in it. Nothing else will happen.

1. First I removed the files I'd put into the new downloads dir. No change.
2. Then I deleted the dl dir and renamed the downloads2 dir back to downloads in case there was a conflict, though I couldn't imagine why there would be except they were in the same main directory. No change

This means that the problem has nothing at all to do... Read more

GreetingsOne or more of the identified infections is a Backdoor Trojan. This could allow hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC could be compromised and there is no way to be sure that your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? When Should I Format, How Should I ReinstallWe can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. I am not positive as to what I did - I was working on a project and dropped my keyboard - when I picked it back up my white background and color chooser - along with my style packs background had changed to this yellowing color - But its only on ONE monitor not both.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

A:Photoshop CS5 - white not white

It sounds to me like the dropping the keyboard is a red herring.

It is more likely that the colour temperature of one of your monitors has shifted with age. Get yourself a monitor calibration tool, I use the Huey pro relatively cheap or you could go for something more expensive like a Spyder or similar. You need one that copes with two monitors, then use the device to adjust your monitors properly.

I canít find any reference to your camera. Iím guessing it might be a Mavica, but I think they all have FD designations and I see no FD 63 either. A 3.5 inch floppy holds 1.44Mb total. That makes for some pretty small images. If you just want to display images online it is sufficient.

What you need is some lighting from the side to make some shadows. A movie light might work if you move it back a way and also maybe use the camera flash. A small halogen work light would work as well if you have one of those. They have remote flash units that arenít pricey that are triggered by the camera flash. You could put one of those to the side, but you might have to lower the EV if the camera doesnít have TTL metering.

You might want to lower the EV a little in any case if your camera allows that. It is easy to burn out the highlights and not be able to recover them in software. You might want to bracket the EV as it might want to lower it on its own with all that white in the picture.

Digital pictures are cheap. Take lots of pictures with different settings and whatever lighting you have at different angles and distances. But you need to get some lighting other than the camera flash.

Hello,On July 18th, as I was watching a streaming TV show, my computer apparently picked up Antimalware Doctor, which kept telling me that my computer was infected and that I needed to pay them money to get rid of all these infections. I managed to get rid of that with MalwareBytes. Shortly after though, my Norton Antivirus started regularly informing me (every 20 minutes to half hour) that it had blocked an intrusion attempt from either HTTP Tidserv Request (most common) or HTTPS Tidserv Request 2 (2nd most), and every once in a while some oddball like HTTP Fake Scan Webpage 5 or some Trojan (Vundo or Ad.Clicker). It seems like it's always been blocked, but as these Norton alerts keep coming, even when I don't have a browser open, I am upset and concerned. Also seems as if the attacks are coming from several different computers.I tried running Malwarebytes a few more times. It usually leaves me with 8 or so pieces of malware, identified as Rootkit or Trojan agents, which it tells me will be deleted upon reboot. However, after I reboot and run Malwarebytes immediately thereafter, there are still 8 pieces of Malware. I tried updating my Norton and running a scan, but that didn't fix the problem. I also ran Norman Malware Cleaner, with no real results.Again, though the alerts always classify the threat level as high, it seems like they are being blocked. I haven't entered any passwords into my computer since this came up, and I never save any on a regu... Read more

I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to this, but I guess I've no other choice. I've looked up this thing and from what it sounds like, I'm in deep. Like an abyss. This whole fiasco started about a week ago when my parents found a charge from McAfee on their card. None of us ever purchased anything, and called McAfee and had them remove the charge which (according to my Dad), simply removed the LiveUpdate thing McAfee had.Not long after that, Google Chrome started acting weird and some program called "pbupdate.exe" had to be closed. My computer subsequently froze and I had to manually shut down.I rebooted my computer only to find that Chrome had been completely fried and would not load any web pages at all. Resorting to Firefox, I Googled "pbupdate.exe" and clicked the first link, allowing "Top PC Defender" onto my computer (and maybe some other things). As such, I ran Malwarebytes, SUPERAntiSpyware, McAfee, AVG, and Spybot to rid myself of the problem. When this yielded no results, I ended up using System Restore which seemed to get rid of the problem. Not long after, we switched over to Norton due to Comcast preparing a move, and uninstalled McAfee. Norton ended up having to uninstall AVG in order for it to install. And ever since then I've had these messages popping up repeatedly on my computer from Norton, telling me an attack was blocked but not allowing any action to be taken. The fact that I'm still getting these mess... Read more

When wiring up a patch cable, 1 person said it has to be in the following order due to the green and greenwhite white being transmit wires or something..?
(not sure about the order of then greens and blues but it was roughly that)

The other person said he does it like this purely for convention, and the 2nd netwoking guy said it doesnt matter as long as they are the same at either end. and for crossover you just reverse the sequence.
I'd be enclined to o with the it doesnt matter which order, as they are only wires the colour of a wire doesnt meen jack surely. its just to help you get the order correct... no? its like people who say you shouldnt do 123456 in the lotto as thatll never come up... well newsflash its statistically the same as getting 6 randomly ordered numbers.

Hi. And thanks for reading this post.
Description: Windows 7 Starter (netbook) loads , desktop is visible for about 30 seconds, then is taken over by a white screen with a submit box on the right bottom portion of the screen. Other than a one-line warning that says "You have 30 seconds to connect to the internet," there are no other messages or directions. I suspect it is some type of flawed ransomware, with an intelligent, very well-hidden code.
From a USB, using command prompt, I've tried several dozen malware scanners including HitmanPro and MalwareBytes without success.
The computer was infected on 11/18/15 and the virus seems to have deleted any previous restore point(s).
The white screen virus locks up Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking. The white screen also launches when trying to use explorer.exe or opening up notepad to save a file to the desktop. Tried to use a new user account to bypass the virus, but the white screen locks up the new user account in the same way.
Safe Mode with Command Prompt works.
I am thankful to be here for some professional help and look forward to the learning experience.
I followed Bleeping Computer's directions and uploaded the relevant logs from a recently run Farbar scan.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.
