New Stupid Update with no info (MS Windows Mobile Remote Adapter)

Q: New Stupid Update with no info (MS Windows Mobile Remote Adapter)

So Update tells me there is a recommended program, "Microsoft Corporation - Networking - Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" that was published on 9/14/07. Now, this update was just informed to me after I had already installed the Vista Sync Center for my PPC6700. So, I am sync up as far as I know (other than the fact I do not have Outlook installed on this computer so nothing is actually synced with anything).

So the details are as follows:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Corporation - Networking - Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter

Download size: 11.4 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Update type: Recommended

Microsoft Corporation Networking software update released in May, 2007

Well, first off when I click on the link for more info, I get told that my system is not compatible. Turns out MS forces you to use IE. Blah. So, I pop the link for more information in IE, and get a page that tells me:

"Update drivers: recommended links
Applies to all editions of Windows Vista."

Wow, really? Is that what that does? Next thing they will tell me that there is a button I can press that will turn my machine off *sigh*

Anyway, the point of this post, what in the world is this update for? I am already loaded with a sync center for my PPC. I attempted to search online, and all I was running across were horror stories of how one's PDA was zapped of all data, or their system stopped syncing. The MS site even had a lot of forum posts that they were able to fix problems they had with the system by REMOVING this from the computer. Anyone have a link or information as to what in the world this update is?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi. I don't know what your update is for but Microsoft likes to offer you "recommended" updates even though you have the latest or best driver. I have the most up-to-date video card (beta) drivers, and network card drivers, and monitor, but Microsoft insists that I need their recommended updates. My parts work fine without them, so I suggest you don't download those if you are not sure what they are.

Your best option may be to open device manager (with device connected) and uninstall any related device, making sure the 'Delete driver software for this device' is checked.Once you have done this, unplug your device, uninstall WMDC 6.1 and reboot your machine. Then follow the instruction on my first reply, this should sort it for you.If anyone is helpfull, please click the 'Vote as helpfull' icon.

I was just doing my usual check the windows updates and I updated them according to windows. After I restarted my computer I am now getting that retarded thing where before you can go into windows you have to click that little icon with your name beside it just to log onto windows...I find this very annoying and I was hoping that someone knew how to fix this. I have always hated this part of windows since I am the only user on my computer and I like to just turn my computer on and let it load up....not wait for windows to load the user switching screen. I have tried to disable the fast user switching and the welcome screen but to no avail. If anyone know how to fix this please tell me how!

THANKS

Hey everyone, how is your evening?

I just have a quick question. I just installed the RC and got everything where I wanted it, but now I am in the midle of DLing the RTM, I read about the hack that allows you to do an upgrade instead of a clean install, but will that give me the Windows.Old file?

Also, how do I find out if the RTM is legit? Something about Hashbrowns? (I'm so witty!). Isn't there some kind of number that is supposed to match up? if so where could I find this number?

Thanks in advance!

A:Update to RTM without stupid Windows.Old?

you'd get Windows.old folder if you install to a partition where Windows already lives. It would not be the case if you format the drive before you install the RTM version.

It doesn't sound like you are downloading the RTM legally. Otherwise the software would be verified automatically by Microsoft's download manager tool.

Hey there. Now I have automatic updates popping up every six hours and when I shut down the computer. I don't know why it is not installing and is really bugging the crap of me! Thanks a lot in advance!

Can you uninstall the "OFFICE WEB COMPONENTS" or even office itself....reinstall and then try to apply the update? May be the easiest way.

When using Ethernet or Wi-Fi I have no problem, but when using an HSDPA USB modem to connect to the internet via mobile broadband (dial-up) I have the following problem:

Windows Update can "check for updates" and lists pending updates without a problem, but will not download anything (starts downloading but stops at 0% with error 80200011). Internet works fine otherwise (e.g. Internet Explorer, email etc).

I am using NIS and have tried disabling this but it does not help. When booting in Selective Starup (no startup items, Microsoft services only), I can connect to the internet (dial-up manually or automatically via IE default connection and get local and internet access status), however I cannot locate any web sites (e.g. Google), so suspect there may be some issue with DNS or some other configuration setting for this connection.

Hi -

Most likely it is NIS causing the problems as usual. Simply disabling Norton does no good because the boot and kernel mode drivers continue to run.

Remove NIS with the Norton Removal Tool. Download it to your desktop, right-click on the icon and select Run as Administrator. Upon completion, re-boot.

NRT - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/englis...moval_Tool.exe

Next, reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply (if hi-lighted) | Click OK

Norton or Symantec anti-virus is just fine. But not the firewall. In the interim, use AVG 8 for a/v protection -

Please let me know how you make out.

I was under the impression that Lumia devices with 512MB RAM weren't going to be get getting the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update, however today I turned on my old Lumia 635 to double-check a question I replied to on this forum earlier and it updated itself to the Windows 10 Mobile 1607 Anniversary Update. Well, can't complain at that.

I have no idea why though, before updating it would have been on whatever 10586 insider build it was on back in about March when I reset it back to defaults and threw it in a cupboard.

Has anyone else received the 14393.67 update on a Lumia 635?

After what seems like an eternity of waiting, Microsoft has finally released the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update. The news comes two weeks after all of the other Windows 10 platforms saw the update, and Dona Sarkar said it would be available in the coming weeks.

The build that you'll be seeing today is 14393.67, which is a cumulative update that was offered to Insiders a week ago. If it's not entirely obvious, you'll need a phone that's officially supported for Windows 10 Mobile to grab today's update.

The Anniversary Update brings quite a few new features to your device. For one thing, Wallet now supports tap-to-pay. Well, to be more specific, it only supports NFC payments if you subscribe to one of seven banks and your phone is a Lumia 650, 950, or 950 XL.

You'll also find a few camera improvements, which is also exclusive to certain devices. Windows Camera will now have a panorama feature, and on the lock screen, you'll notice that the back button turns into a camera button.

Aside from improvements to Cortana and the Action Center, perhaps the most important improvement is the new UWP Skype Preview app. One of its biggest new features is that it won't beshut down in early 2017 like its Windows Phone 8 predecessor. It also supports light and dark themes, which is something that's huge in the Windows world.

Those are just a few of the improvements that you'll see in today's update. You can check out our full re... Read more

Hi, as posted in the title, I screwed up and let something install after I thought I had a legit download.
Shortly after the opera browser showed signs of infection with weird pop-ups so I safe moded and tried to fix by restoring to an earlier point and scanning with my existing cleaning software (I have to admit I've let my diligence and awareness slide a bit lately as I have not had any problems for about a year or more, payback's a b!^%h though). All seemed ok as the pop-ups were gone. The computer was acting sluggish and within a couple of days the credit card was declined. Someone had enough info to do a credit check and use the card for online purchases.

What I've done so far:
Scan and clean with Malwarebytes anti maleware.
Scan and clean with spybot S+D
Scan and clean with Ad-Aware anti virus

Could someone please take some time to see if there is still a recognizable problem as I am scared to do any more banking on the computer.

Thanks in advance.

I was wondering, if you have a good gaming computer, and you have a program like log me in or go to my pc or something, would you be able to like play intense 3D games on like an old windows 98 laptop?

I mean, all the processing power would be computed by the gaming pc and the results would just be displayed by the laptop.

I'm guessing the answer is no. Maybe there would be too much lag for games. I don't know. But that would be cool if you have a good gaming pc and could take your games with you on the go with a cheap used laptop.

It has been a long night already and I am not sure what is relevant and what is not, so I am just going to outline what I was trying to do and what I did before I lost connectivity.

I have a custom-built PC with Vista Ultimate installed and running as well as one might expect a Windows OS to run. I put this system together a couple years ago so I would be inclined to suspect age or HW malfunction before configuration or incompatibility. That said...

I want to try out Ubuntu Server 9.1 (dual-boot with my current Vista installation) so I downloaded the iso and tried burning a cd. After about 8 CDRs going into the trash, I decided to try a USB stick. I only have one USB thumb drive, but I was using it for my bitlocker key.

I copied my key to a backup location, disabled bitlocker temporarily, used unetbootin to create a bootable install drive from my thumb drive, rebooted to the thumb drive successfully, was able to detect the network adapter and successfully download some packages from the repository.

I then realized that unetbootin does not copy the whole source to the thumb drive, so instead of redownloading it again I decided to abort the installation and log back into Vista to put the iso where the installer could find it on a USB HDD.

(I know what you are thinking. For some reason I could not get my USB HDD to boot directly. Yes I did try that before robbing my encryption key. lol)

Back in Vista, I moved the plugin for my USB mouse from a front port to a rear port so... Read more

Windows 10 was designed to be a service, which means it automatically gets better through periodic software updates. The great news is that you usually don?t have to do anything to get the latest Windows 10 updates?they'll download and install whenever they?re available. Most Windows updates focus on performance and security improvements to keep you humming 24/7. You'll also see cool new features that we think you?ll like or other improvements that you?ve asked for. If you haven't already, we invite you to join the Windows Insider Program so you can add your voice to the discussion, too.

One thing we?re hearing from you is that you want to know more about what's in our Windows 10 updates, so we're providing more details on this page. In the list below, the most recent Windows update is listed first. Installing the most recent update ensures that you also get any previous updates you might have missed, including security updates. Hello!

Basically, the answer is no. Technically speaking, there is a compilcated procedure, which does work, but actually, there is very little of value in there. To save disk space, once Windows Update has finished with an installer in that folder, it deletes it, and so there is actually very little of value in there, because it has all already been deleted. You can read slightly more about it here: Is there a way to backup current MS Updates?

Unrealistic expectation.

Even if only 1% of the 250 million Windows 1 users requested that service once a year that would be 2.5 million requests a year.

One great thing about Windows 10 is is easy to reinstall yourself.

Hello,

I am currently using Windows Media Player 11 and I am having issues with album information not displaying after I download music from amazon.com and after I rip a CD, it only shows the song title. I have to go through each song and select Find album information to get it. Another problem is that the music time does not display.

I've tried deleting my temporary internet files, deleting the WMP database from the Media Player folder from Start > run. I also resetting options from the Library and Privacy tab, and also resetting Internet Explorer settings from the control panel, and rebooting my machine.

I've been having this problem for several weeks now and I can't seem to figure out why . Can you help me? My OS is Windows XP and sometimes I connect to the internet through VPN and off VPN. My ISP is ATT.
Thanks,
Yonnie

Really long story short, I've got two Toshiba L505 models and a couple of parts were broken on one and different ones were broken on the others so I've got a bit of a franken-computer at the moment. I'm working on the one that has the battery, keyboard and HDD from the other case and combined ram for both (4gb total). The post in the charge port of the other case had some wiggle and wasn't getting a charge and that is a pain to replace so I went back to this one that I'd just set aside due to an unfortunate water/keyboard accident. Everything was on an external so I didn't really care, didn't need both.

Anyway, after transferring the HDD to this case, I'm having issues with the display adapter. Screen is stretched and I'm only getting 1024x768 or 800x600 for options. Took a peek at the device manager and I'm getting a code 12 (This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12) If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.)

Deployed husband and teething 8 month old is really hindering the time I have available to tweak this thing but I've uninstalled, reinstalled. Disabled, enabled. Updated, etc. and nothing has changed.

Brain is super scattered with a move on top of everything so if you're requesting specific info, would you mind providing exactly how to do what you're requesting? The steps or links to do so are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I apologize in advance if it's something REALLY easy,... Read more

Cannot connect this computer to Galaxy S2 mobile wireless hotspot. Network is "seen" as secure but cannot "connect to network" (error message). Same problem on 1 other identical computer - both with AC3160 adapter. No problem connecting to this mobile wireless hotspot with Surface Pro 3, Asus N61-JQ, and Lenovo Laptop - all with Win 10 - and all NOT with AC3160. I have installed latest adapter driver updates for AC3160 and spent hours scouring web for answers - nothing! Any suggestions?

Hi @Huntwood,Thanks for becoming a member of the HP Support Forums. I understand you are having an issue with connecting your computer to a hot spot. I will be glad to help you. Can you tell me if your hotspot is b,g,n, or ac network? The HP ENVY 15-q178ca is only compatible with 802.11ac WLAN and Bluetooth. When I look at the spec for the other devices that can connect they are g,n network. Please keep me informed of how things went. If you require further assistance, let me know and I will gladly do all I can to help you. Please let me know if this resolves the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution".To simply say thanks, click the Thumbs up below!  Thanks.

I ran the last set of updates from MS (security update & something to do with outlook & malicious software tool IIRC), which resulted in my pc booting to a blank screen - safe mode & system restore took care of that, but my MCE remote(V.2) has topped working too & no longer shows up in device mgr.

Machine is an E6300, running MCE 2005, SP3, only hardware I've added was an NVidia 8800 about 3 months ago. The LED on the remote lights upwhen the buttons are pressed, which leads me to believe it's working and this is a driver/software issue of some sort (so long as the sensor's not broken; I don't know anyone else who runs MCE to test it on unfortunately).

The only thing that I've found that seems relevant is a hardware fault in the remote that can be rectified by removing the batteries till the caps drain & reinserting them. Which does nothing(yes, I tried new batteries first as well). Anyhow, that wouldn't explain it not showing up in device mgr either, would it?

Weird thing is, if Windows HAD magically removed the driver on its own (something I am not prepared to dismiss as a cause), you would think unplugging, rebooting & plugging it back in would cause it to reinstall itself, but it doesn't. I've looked for an installer for the drivers, to no avail. Anyhoo, they ought to be bundled in MCE, oughtn't they? It's a P'n'P device, like a USB stick after all, isn't it? Thing is, it's ... Hi there,

I am posting on behalf of my girlfriend as she has had a few problems with her laptop as of late. The most prominent of these problems is that when she tries to access Windows Update, her browser is redirected to Google English. This problem is browser independent, it occurs in IE, Firefox and Opera.

We figured it was some kind of malware causing the problem so tried a few virus/malware scans. Norton threw up nothing. It was suggested on other sites to use less, well known virus scanners. So we proceeded to use a program called 'Malwarebytes Anti-Malware'. This as first seemed to be a success as it found the following malware:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\DhcpNameServer (Trojan.DNSChanger) -> Data: 85.255.112.189 85.255.112.94 -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

This single computer on my network loses DNS information every time Windows auto-updates, thus losing connectivity. When I go to Network Properties, the DNS fields are blank. Updates are the only time this happens, and this is the only machine it happens on. I simply reset the settings, and everything is fine ... until the next update.

I am assuming there is some setting on this box that does this. Is anyone familiar with this situation, and can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

TBF

I will attempt to be as clear and concise as possible. The situation is that a company is being purchased by another company. Company A is being asked for information by company. Company B wants all of the information required to remotely access company A's servers as soon as the transaction is completed. The problem is company A no longer has IT support or even anyone onsite who is capable of providing this information. Company B has specifically requested a domain password. I have been given this responsibility because I am the closest thing they have to support. I have established remote access between personal computers in the past. But never a company server. How can I direct those onsite through the process of accessing the required information from their servers and then possibly setting up a vpn or remote test to make sure it works? Is a domain password all that company B will require to remotely access servers and network of company A?

HI-Did something really dumb-gave someone remote access to computer,Only about 30 sec.Question-have tax software on this computer any chance they could hace gotten my soc sec number.Thank you

A:remote access to personnel info

Yes. They certainly could have gotten your social security number, but it is unlikely for that to have happened within thirty seconds unless they knew exactly what they were looking for. It depends on whether you were using an installed version of the tax software or the online version. The online version requires a password for access and would be safer in a situation like you have described. Only give remote access to your PC to someone you trust completely.

Hi and Welcome to TSF

From what I understand, your user name and password aren't stored, so you don't have to worry about someone else accessing your system.

Hi all,

I have an Acer Aspire 5600u and the Win 8.1 update has pushed through and since my remote has stopped working, I have looked on their website and there is no updated driver for it. I have gone through device manager and scanned the internet for an updated driver but also no help.

I use my remote often but now it wont work at all, its convenient as it has a built in keyboard and Win 8 specific buttons.

Any advice or help that could be given would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Windows 7 Home Premium with patch to allow incoming RDP session has worked fine for years but quit working after latest Windows Update.

When I attempt to connect from the remote computer, it appears to connect momentarily, but disconnects immediately. On the remote computer, after the momentary connection, I see "please wait for the local session manager" for a microsecond, and then I'm disconnected.

I have Googled and read just about everything I can find, but I can't solve this.

In the event log, I see a remote login and then an immediate logoff.

I have repatched termsrv.dll, too, after replacing it with the original file first.

Have you tried TeamViewer? I gave up on Remote Desktop years ago and have used TeamViewer since then countless times without a hiccup. It is free for consumer/non-commercial use.

Otherwise try a System Restore to before the problem began. Then hide the Updates offered until you can install each one singly to find the one that's causing the problem, which often will resolve itself.

That could be because there are no Windows 10 drivers for that desktop. Did you try to install the Windows 7 driver?
