Preferred Solution: guys my computer wont start and wont have a display

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: guys my computer wont start and wont have a display

does it beep any. if not this will indicate more major problems. (unless you dont have beep speaker installed) a mother board is programed with a set of beep to play if there is a problem like such as three beeps if the ram is not working, 1 long beep if the vid card is not working etc etc. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR BEEPs WILL BE. if you are not getting these then you need to find out why. see if you have a speaker inside your case. if you do and all of your fans spin but still no action from you pc then you may have a larger problem such as mother board or processor.

having to use the works computer to post this. My home pc is failing to startup.

Before it had gotten this bad, I had experienced crashes and reboots whilst it was working. They became more frequent and now the computer wont start at all. The power comes on, the fans all whirr, but the computer doesnt even get to the point where it displays the introductory bios screen.

Any advice?

Computer is a little old now. Intel 2600k inside.

Hello leicestersq,

Please provide information about your computer, this includes is it a notebook or desktop, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the MB, the RAM (including the amount) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable us to better assist you.

before this happened ive noticed a few weird things when turnign on my computer.
when i push the buttons i can hear the fans and everything go on, for a second, then it turns off, than turns back on
than when its loading(before going on xp)
its said something about overclocking failed
do i want to go back to settings
or continue with default

i chose default, than after that everything went normal, turned off my computer...and i couldnt start it up again

wheni push the buttons theres nothing on the sceen, i can hear the fans,
but there isnt that BEEP sound that i usually hear when i start it up.
the screen is all black, i cant even go into bios.

so i gave it in to repair, they fixed it, said somehting "ROM" n "flash" cant remember

the computer worked for a few times, than the samething happened, no display... im pretty sure its not the monitor.

anyone know whats wrong, how do i fix it?
i think i have the same problem with this guy..

i have a hp pavilion 6767tx running visa 32-bit on 1.8Ghz with 3gigs ram.
last night i shut down my laptop, but realized that i left my cd in the drive.
Thus, i started it up again, and wen the hp logo came, i ejected the disk and held down the power button until it shut off, without waiting for it to start up.(i know, very stupid)
the problem is that now when i start it, nothing happens. It doesn't even show the hp logo. The processor liht does not flash even once. The DVD drive whirs twice and goes silent.

So I turn my computer off one day only to find it wont start the next day. I open the case up and see the led is on. I flip the switch on the power supply off then on and quickly press the power button. My computer starts but the following time I shut down the computer it again wont start and now the led is blinking. I've never had any issues like this before, any help would be appreciated.

I don't routinely use many usb devices, only my mouse and keyboard and every now and then my ipod. I figure the issue is likely either the power supply or the motherboard. The ps is almost two years old while the motherboard is only about three months old.

A:Computer wont start, power supply wont start, blinking led

It sounds to me like your PSU is the problem, get a hold of another and plug it to your computer and see if that will make it start, if it doesn't it might be BOTH your motherboard and PSU. A bad PSU will burn a motherboard.

any help appreciated guys!

A:XP wont start up. Doesnt detect my ext HDD either to boot my backup :( need help guys

Hiya kel2 and welcome to TSG.

Go into BIOS by pressing either F1, F2 or the DEL key (it should tell you on-screen just after you press the ON button). Make sure your CD/DVD and hard drive/s are showing and being read correctly and also make sure the boot order contains the system`s hard drive in at least second position, if not first. It`s worth checking the physical connections to the hard drive as well, especially if it`s just started happening.

Some motherboards don`t access the USB ports as a start-up option so not finding your external drive immediately isn`t so much of an issue although depending on the mobo itself, there might be an option to enable it.

Hi guys (thanks for reading this post!)

my husband bought a laptop for xmas about 2 years, maybe 3 ago, from Currys so I doubt it's still under waranty.

Anyways, here's the problem

We were using it normall and then the next day we tried to start the laptop:
pushed the power, starts with that normal booting writing, then it goes like it's about to load Vista, but this mouse pointer a bit larger then normal appears and the screen goes to Tech (now I read that this is like a repair thing that was pre installed cause the laptop was bought from Currys and I imagine the have a deal with this company to fix any problems)

I don't mind installing a new OS like Windows7 but I'd like to be able to save the 'pictures and documents' in the laptop if at all possible. I'm not that good with pc so dont go all technical on me... (I use a mac myself, never had problems...)
anyways it come with this screen and gives you a few options, and tried all of them, says the pc had come errors or something and to try to reinstall but the Vista came alrady installed on the laptop....

Let me know if you know how to remove this techguys or how to save the info on the laptop so I can just clean wipe and reinstall...

I you want, I can try taking pics and posting them... and i will get the specs in a sec...

You could make a bootable Linux Live CD or USB flash drive if you want to recover the files. Puppy Linux is probably your best bet, it sells itself (in so much as a free product can be said to sell itself) based on its small size and ability to do just this kind of work on Windows.

Nothing will load on my Compaq Presario 700 notebook. It wont even turn on in safe mode.
When I go to turn it on it sounds like the hard drive attempts to spin. I don't hear the fans, but all the lights come on. The battery is fairly new and everything is plugged in properly.
All this began when I was running Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and it locked up forcing me to shut down.

Ok, it all started when i was dloading a program to make windows setups.(.msi). Then i decided i didnt like it and uninstalled it. After tht was done. I decided i was going to stick with Inno Setup. I have used it before and liked it. But then i noticed all or most of my desktop icons were missing. And all the start menu ientries were missing. So i figured i had a virus. SO i went to do a system resotre. But found that i oculdnt find it...due to to missing folders. So i decided i would then try to boot into safe mode. When i tried to boot it said it cannot find a file(same with normal mode). Ubfortunely i dont remember what it said. I think it said windows cannot find NRDL press ctrl alt delete to reboot. or somthing like that. Any ways i tried a few more times and it all failied. SO then i tried the windows recovery console. Nothing. I really didnt know whre to go with it. Then i decied to go into the bios and reset. Or i thought i was resseting them. I seleteced. "fails proof settings". But then i rebooted and things got worse. My monitor is now getting no signal, it says it is ocnnected though..... So i cant see what i am doing. Please any ideas. I have a Programming project that i have been working on for months now. i dont wanna lose that. And a Lang arts project. I am very computer savvy but i have tried everything. and yes i tried a differ monitor. No Dice.

If I leave my computer alone for over 10 mins, the display turns of from non-use.

Sometimes, as usual, if you move the mouse it will turn back on normally.

Most of the time recently - and only since I got my Windows 10 update, but that may just be coincidental - when the display turns off, it seems the computer goes to sleep. If you shake the mouse, press the power button etc - it looks like its starting up again but it never completely gets there. The power up button will light up, the wifi sign will go orange and the computer will make a noise, but only for a few seconds before they stop and the lights switch back off. Then after a few seconds it tries to turn back on again, fails and repeats. I could leave it doing that for ages and it'll just be on repeat. It doesn't matter what I click, nothing helps it start up properly.

(Not sure if this matters, but if I left the Caps Lock button on before the display turns off, the light stays on no matter how many times you press the button. It's like its frozen, along with all the other buttons and screen)

The only way that I can get the computer to start up, is by holding down the power button to force a shut down and then powering back up from the start. Sometimes it'll start back up normally, othertimes it'll say "windows configurating" and sometimes it goes start to a green "restarting" screen after powering up.

It's very weird and it's getting annoying now because sometimes I've lost work that hadnt be... Read more

Hello there,
It seems like you did not perform a clean installation of Windows and that's why your system is acting up.
Follow the steps below to install a new copy of Windows:
1. To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation you will need to start or boot your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive. Insert your Windows 7 disc in your CD/DVD drive. Please note: will need to restart or turn on your system with the disc in the drive.
2. After turning on your system with the CD in the drive go ahead and press any key when prompted during your computer post routine and then follow the instructions presented on screen. If you don’t see this go back to step 1 to setup your BIOS to boot from CD or USB flash drive depending on your installation media.
3. On the Install Windows page simply enter your preferences and click next.
4. Accept the Windows license agreement.
5. On the “Which type of installation do you want” page go ahead and choose the “Custom” option.
6. Select Drive options (advanced) on the “Where do you want to install Windows” page.
7.  Select the partition that you want to change, choose the formatting option you want to perform and then follow the instructions.
When allocating space choosing the default MB size for your drive is typically the best for most users since you want to take full advantage of all your disk... Read more

Today I noticed that I could not open my start menu with neither the windows button, ctrl + esc, or a click of the mouse. I've also had a problem the last couple of days saving/opening files in one of the programs I used to make music. I tried to go into safe mode to do system restore, but the safe mode didn't boot. It scrolled all the system files on the screen but then just stopped and nothing happened.

So, I tried the other option (forget what it's called) that lets you perform various other system restoration tasks. I brought up the system restore screen from there, but got an error that said something about corrupt files so it could not perform the restore. I checked again, and all my restore points had been deleted.

Lastly, when I click computer, all the drives are blank with no names beside them, only the icons. I can still click them and they seem to be functioning normally, so I don't know if there is a relation to this. I don't know if some registry files were deleted or if there is some other problem. I didn't notice the start menu/safe mode/blank icon issues until I just recently installed the latest windows update.

Sorry if this seemed a little long winded, but I would appreciate help from anyone.

Last night I updated windows 8.1 from windows 8.
It got to the stage where it needs to restart so it done that started the configarations and once it reached 100% it restarted.

Since then what happens is when i press power on the samsung logo comes on the screen then the black screen with the windows picture then the bsod comes up for around half a second and it restarts. then it constantly does this.

The whole cycle only takes a few seconds.

Ive tried booting in safe mode but this isnt working so I downloaded kav rescue on another computer and saved it on a flash drive, But it wont boot off this either.

Any ideas?

What does the BSOD state? Most times it is a driver issue with the Display drivers. Other times it is hardware.

I got a new p4 3 gig with hyperthreading pc. For a while it was working like a charm, on overdrive. But only after a week of use, I started to have problems. While playing very visually demanding games (Battlefield 1942, Medal Of Honor) I would keep gettin those dreaded blue screen of death thingies. I would get one of 3 errors. One said, "IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_TO_OR_LESS_THAN" another said, "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" although im not quite sure about the NONPAGED part, i know it said non something. And the other one I think I only got once and cant remember exactly what it was, it had something to do with IRQ.

Now on all of them it said it was shutting down my pc to avoid hardware damage. Which it did, I had about 3 seconds to read the screen before my pc shut down. After a while, It got so bad that I would get an error while just browsing the internet with explorer. I tried taking out my vid card and using the on-board video, didnt work. I turned off the power carefully opened up the case of a computer from a friend of the family, put in 512mb more of ddr ram to add to the 448 already in there. It beeped when I turned it on, so something was awry I turned it off again and tried again and the beep code went off again. So I said ok nvm then and I took out the ram I put in, now then I started up the computer and no beep code but also the monitor displays nothing. I dont see any fry marks or anything and im sure this computer uses ddr ram, I tried leaving the power off for a while. Oh yeah and before when I would start it up the fan was crazy loud, now its at a normal pace. There is a lot of dirt in there, I blowed it out with a household fan, considering taking a leaf blower to it, theres what almost looks like dried mud on the cpu fan. I am thinking of reseating everything, thats all I can think of hmm any thoughts?

A:Put RAM into a computer now it wont display anything

OK reseating the ram and cleaning with a eraser worked, oddly enough it was ddr2 ram in it, but ddr ram fits into its slots and even odder the ram in it says 512mb not 448 mb, which I thought was odd. anywho crisis adverted.

okay yesterday my computer was just fine i was looking at a web page that said something about cant display it properly due to something with java then all of a sudden my desktop picture quit working. I was using wallpaper spinner which made my background change every minute. I have been using it for almost a year and never had any problems with it. Now when i go into properties to put a wallpaper up they are all grayed out and i only have the option of a color for my background. Anyone have ANY idea on why it cant display pictures and only colors? I have went into my pictures and right clicked and hit set as background and nothing happens i cant even use pictures that came on the computer for wallpaper and my wallpaper spinner was running and it wasn't even showing anything on the background. I really need to figure out what is going on its driving me crazy!!

A:my computer wont display a background

There are 2 different things that I think it could be. The first one is your spinner software. That might just be some kind of junk software put on the internet. Try uninstalling it and seeing what happens.

If it is not the software then you probably clicked on a type of virus from that webpage that you were talking about. Here is what you can do. Download Hijack This by clicking here. Then install the software. Next get a scan for your computer with Hijack This. Copy and Paste the results into a new thread asking someone if they can check it for any viruses. If someone replies to you saying there is then locate that file and delete it. If it is a Windows system file then find a way to replace the file with a brand new one. Your last resort would be to reinstall Windows on your PC. Please reply and tells me what happens.

P.S. Don't use any kind of software for your wallpaper. Just put a single picture as the background. It may save you from more trouble.

Good Luck!

Do you notice if the screen flashes a quick blue before it restarts? If it does, go back to the Safe Mode menu and select instead Disable automatic restart on system failure. The computer will try then to boot normally. If booting should fail and 'bluescreen', the PC will display it instead of rebooting. If possible, take a picture of it and insert it into your next reply. Otherwise, type in what it says.

I put in the disc and the autoplay on the disc never engaged so I opened up my computer and tried to get it to start from there. No luck. I tried opening up each individual driver and all that from the cd. I got to one called "true color" or something like that ( I dont really remember sorry) and installed it on my computer. I promped a restart and everything was going fine until the screen went blank after the windows xp boot screen. I've checked the internals of my computer and everying thing is ok. I've also tried using my old monitor only to get the same black screen. Any suggestions on how to fix would be greatly appreciated.

The issue is once in a blue moon it will boot up normally and display but if i turn it off it will not display again for a few hours to a few days. At first i thought it was the psu so i replaced it and it still had the same issue. Next i did a test with a friends computer to test gpu. Both his and my gpu worked in both his and my computer. So i started using the computer again that day and turned it off later. The next day the issue came back and at this point i am stumped. Only idea i have ledt is motherboard but it seems wierd that both graphics cards worked that day just fine but now its back to not displaying. Also i tested the monitor by using 3 different monitors and it did not display on any of them. The computer is 3 years old and never had this issue before. Please give me some advice on what you think it is.

Today I got a second display for my computer, all is working well. But the problem is, when I try to put the computer to sleep, it wont go to sleep. All it will do is lock the computer making me enter my password like it was asleep.

I am not sure what to do in this situation. When I had one monitor, I could go to start>sleep or hit the sleep button on my keyboard, and it would go to sleep without a problem. But now with the second display, no chance. I hope that someone is able to help me with this.

Thank you.

A:Computer wont go to sleep, Dual display

Start here Lastwake Command

Also open Device Manager and go to Monitors and expand it. Right click your new monitor and select Properties. In the Power Management tab, if checked then uncheck Allow this device to wake my computer.

Hello everyone,

I have finally bought and put together my new beastly computer, but something is wrong.

I have connected everything as best I can and my uncle, who built his own computer, cannot find anything wrong with the way the components are connected. But when I plug my moniter into the 8800GT, nothing happens. I have tried three different moniters, (2 CRT and 1 LCD) and the best I can get is a "No Signal" image on the LCD. The other two remain black.

I have also tried removing and replacing the card, like it says to do in theTrouble-Shooting section of the card's manual, but to no avail.

The fans all start spinning around, the LED's light up... but that's about it. nothing else happens.
(The moniters all work on the other computer, just fine by the way).

It looks very pretty and all, but it isn't exactly living up to my expectations.

Is it normal for a PC to do this untill the OS is installed? I would appreciate any information anyone might have as well as any advice.

Also if anyone can post a link to a good "How To Build A Computer" guide for noobs, I would be very grateful.

Classic Rock.

A:Built a new computer, but the monitor wont display an image

Check your MB specs

You may want to look at your motherboard specs.
Some MB if it's SLI requires you to flip a jumper if you are running with 1 GPU if not already set by default. Also if you are running a single GPU it may also require you put the GPU in a specific PCI-E slot.

Good luck.

my friend has a new computer but kept her old monitor. The old monitor "blew up" ie she saw sparks and so she disconnected it and bought a new monitor. When she switches her computer on now it wont start. It seems to get part of the way as the monitor light comes on but then switches off. nothing else happens. What could it be?? What can I do to put it right for her???

A:computer wont start

Try a different video card in the PC, that probably got toasted as well when the monitor went.

Recently, my brother got a new computer and put his old one in a closet for about a month, before he decided to give it to me. Unfortunately, this computer that was working perfectly fine when he set it aside now wont start. It turns on well enough, the fans come on and everything, and according to his description, because I don't actually get it until I drive up there tomorrow, fans come on, screen wont come on, drive sounds like it's trying to load something every twenty seconds or so, and the hard drive light doesn't turn on. Anyone have any idea what's happening?

Hello everybody reading this thread,
First of all i would like to thank you for taking the time to read this. I just got done building my new computer the specs are as follows.

motherboard- intel d915gevl
processor- intel pentium 4 530j 3.0ghz
memory-1 gig ddr2 533 ram
os- windows xp (if i can ever get the computer started lol)
hard drive- 80 gig maxtor diamondmax 10 sata drive
case- kingwin mutant x gaming case with a 420 watt psu
(i dont really know what other info you need)

well here it is in a nut shell, i've built computers before, never really went for the gaming case thing, i usually just stick to the average case but i wanted to do something different this time, everything is hooked up ,the little green led is lit where you hook the psu into the motherboard, i press power, nothing happens, i hold it in for 4 seconds then let go it makes a kind of hissing noise, it only lasts for a second not even. i unhooked everything and hooked it back up numerous times its still the same thing, there is one weird thing i have noticed for my fp header on the mother board i have the usual pwr sw, hdd led, reset sw, but instead of our usual pwr led, they turned it into a molex connector. i dont know if that is the problem, i've trouble shooted my **** off lol, i've tried to get a hold of kingwin because when i recieved the case there was no book paper work or nothing just a reciept. well i have e-mailed them so many times, the first time i waited a wee... Hi jeffdogg, sorry to hear you are having problems, I hate it when that happens. The first thing I would suspect, is the power supply. If you have an extra power supply, try that. Let us know how it goes.

Edit: jeffdogg, disconnect that power led wire, you don't really need it for now. I hope you are not talking about the square four-connector cable from the power supply? If it is, that you will need, if the MOBO is a P4 ATX MOBO.

Can you give specific details on your computer hardware, motherboard make and model, operating system, etc.

ok, heres the thing. this morning i got on the computer (xp home) from sleeping in half the day away and suddenly zone alarm starts bringing up all these new programs that want to acess the internet. and then avg starts saying i have a new virus, one after another.

so i run avg and adaware and take out like the 70ish new files. for some reason though avg didnt find anything (even though it told me about the new viruses) so then i desided to do some windows updates. after working around behind the constant "get sevice pack 2!" stuff (havent gotten it yet because ive been hearing nothing but bad news) i noticed that i missed about 8 important secrutity patches. so i install and update them and then it asks "would you like to restart your computer now?" i figured, "ok, everything seems to be fine now" so i clicked yes.

so my computer starts to restart and doesnt get very far (only to the intel processor screen) then i get "no signal" on the screen and it all starts over. and then it just keeps looping over and over.

the night before i didnt even do anything. i got off from playing final fantasy 11, and then started to work on some animations of mine. and then around 12 at night i went to bed... it was weird though because my comp didnt want to shut down right away like usual.

i would list the names of the viruses avg stated and the new programs that zone alarm mentioned, but it all kind of happened to fast. i tried s... Read more

most of the time your RAM is checked in the post screen after the CPU. If it cannot pass the ram tests then you may have lost some ram. Open her up and check all your connections and re-seat your cards and Ram. If you can get into the bios and check things out there. It could also be the processor or Mobo but usually you wont see anything. Since you freeze before anything boots it may not be the OS.
