Help with VN7-792G HDMI Resolution

Q: Help with VN7-792G HDMI Resolution

So I connect a 1080p TV to the HDMI port. Detects fine. But when I connect it, it displays in 720p (or something close to it, looks like 720p). Desktop Right Click > Display Srttings > Select TV > AdvancedThe resolution field is empty. Can't set it here, but I can for the built in display. *shrug* So instead...Desktop Right Click > Graphics Properties (which is Intel HD Graphics)I select the TV... It claims to be set at 1920x1080, which is BS. So now the real fishy part. I set the TV to mirror the built in display. My built in display is now at 720p, but HD Graphics claims I have them set at 1080. As soon as I disconnect the TV, the resolution on the built in display scales back up to 1080p. Icon sizes change, etc. It's very obvious something is not right. Any ideas or suggestions? I've tried everything I can think of. Oh and, I'm a Desktop tech. Something like this should be trivial...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, to the group. I am seeking help to troubleshoot an issue with my VN7 notebook noted in the subject. Issue: the HDMI output on my VN7 notebook stopped working. The HDMI output was working fine. No hardware changes to notebook or external monitor since last known good. I've tested my HDMI cables and HDMI monitor using my desktop and tablet devices which all work fine to display output via HDMI on the same equipment. Did I mistakenly flip a bit or setting to disable HDMI on my notebook? Is there a way to run HDMI diagnostics on the VN7? I also tried searching related questions asked by other members. The only thing close was a message about connecting to a television. Hi everyone!
So I bought a new computer yesterday and went HDMI into my HDTV, and the toolbar and the icons (lined up on the left side) weren't fully visible, as in the resolution was a little too big.....does that make sense? lol
I bumped the resolution down a little and my TV went black with a 'Not Supported' bubble floating around and its now stuck there. I can't get out of it with Esc, or Ctrl Alt Del, nothing knocks it loose.
I'm going VGA for now, and it does say that I'm maxed out resolution 1080....hmmm

Any ideas?

Thanks a ton!

A:HDMI resolution problem

Hi and welcome to severn forums

Have seen this many times. LG told me this was due to overscan, and were unable to offer a solution with their own TVs.

I have found a workaround though - many cards come with a screen "resize" function that that allows you to fit the top/bottom and sides to the screen. I use mostly nVidia, but I had one customer that had an ATI and it had a similar feature.

Different TVs handle the resolutions differently. You can try different refresh rates. Your TV will complain if you go out of range, in which case waiting 20 seconds the setting usually reverts if you don't accept the settings.

Most TV manuals also have a glossary that tells you what resolutions and modes they support. If you have not already done so, it might be worthwhile consulting the manual.

i switched my monitor from DVI over to HDMI cable and now a small portion of the display is off of the screen..to fix it i have to go into nvidia display properties and manually resize the resolution to something like 1818x1022 but then it loses quality..so why is this happening when it works fine on DVI connection ?

Dear all,I recently got a new carbon X1 2016 version and I would like to connect it to my display at work (samsung U24E590, 4K) and my TV at home (Panasonic, 4K). As especially my TV doesn't have a display port, I would like to connect over HDMI. In the manual, it says that HDMI connection allows resolutions up to 4096x2160px. However, when I connect my Samsung display, I get only options up to 1920x1080px in display settings (win 10, x64). I downloaded and installed the newest Intel HD Graphics 520 driver from the Lenovo support page. How is it possible to use full 4K resolution over HDMI connection? Anybody an idea? If possible without any expensive adapters etc. Many thanks for your help!

When I use a DVI to HDMI cable to connect to my television, it seems to work except for a couple minor flaws. First let me tell you my hardware:
50" DLP tv 1080P Monitor
8800 GTS With most up to date drivers

My tv takes the 1080 resolution perfectly. Including when I watch video with WMP.

However, when I use 3rd party DVD software or the Online movie viewer for Netflix, it automatically resizes my desktop and does a huge overscan. Pushing my desktop out of wack.

I have tried all the resizing options in my nvidia control pannel and this still happens. This does not happen with VGA. I am using my VGA for my xbox 360 though and don't want to switch back and forth.

ALSO: I noticed that with my HDMI/PC setup, the refresh rate is LOCKED at 30hz. What's up with that!? Is it really actually only refreshing at this rate?

If anyone has had this problem and knows a fix or knows it can't be fixed please let me know!

Thank you

First question; VGA has an unlimited resolution out put correct? If not what is it limited too?

I'm trying to get 1920x1080 resolutions for my desktop and games, but my monitor only has VGA, Svideo, and HDMI.

With VGA it caps its self at 1680x1050, nothing I do will fix this no drivers reformatting etc. I don't know what it is.

With HDMI it wil do the 1920x1080p resolution (according to windows and the little info message built into my TV) BUT it only takes up the screen in a 4:3 ratio, so 25% black on the left, 50% of my tv is being taken up by the desktop and then 25% on the right is black. It doesn't even look like the pixels in the black area are turned on.

The HDMI works fine with an Xbox.

I'm using a xfx Radeon 6790 1gb

I connected my Alienware m11x via HDMI to my Sony Bravia 32'' (not latest series), anyway I cannot select it's native solution I can only pick 1280x720 and then 1920x1080. The text also appears to be blue and black where it should be just black, it just generally looks 'fuzzy' the image on my TV. May just be a poor TV but I'm not sure.

A:M11X HDMI Resolution wrong

The Bravia might only support 720p/i (1280x720) and 1080p/i(1920x1080) over HDMI connection. Also the wide screen ratio of the m11x's screen and the tv might be different so you can't guarentee that you'll be able to run the same resolution without black bands at the sides or top/bottom, or using rescaling on the TV to make the picture fit the screen. I've never connected my PC via an HDMI output to my Sony Bravia but used to have it over DVI adaptor to HDMI and don't remember it being fuzzy or blue/black where it should be just black.

When you go into display settings does it list your actual TV model or at least something like "Sony TV" or just "Generic Television" for the 2nd display? You could try "detect displays" as this should allow for configuration of the output to match the specific capabilities of your TV if it is correctly detected.

If I get time I'll try connecting laptop or desktop up over HDMI this evening and see if I have any problems. Only issue is that I only have ATI cards at the moment so if the m11x has a problem it could be Nvidia related.

Hey guys, so I bought a dvi splitter recently, along with a DVI to HDMI cable, so that I can copy my monitor display to my TV. The splitter works fine when only the DVI connected to the monitor is plugged in, but when I have both the monitor's DVI cable and the DVI to HDMI cable from the TV plugged in, the resolution gets really messed up (something like 600 x 400, or around there). When I try to fix the resolution, it won't allow it. Is the problem that my graphics card isn't powerful enough, or my TV and/or monitor are setting limitations, or something else?

Try swapping which connector of the splitter the monitor and TV are connected to. Aside from that, the problem is likely the DVI to HDMI converter. If two DVI devices are connected it will likely work fine.

The dell computer is not able to drive this screen at a resolution higher than full hd on the hdmi port.
I've tried with a macbook pro HDMI with the same screen and same cable, it drives it perfectly at 60Hz.
If I create custom resolution, it will always say that the bandwidth exceed the bus speed.
Is that normal for a computer of this price?

Hey Everyone, I'm having some issues when connecting my new laptop to an external screen (a Sony TV) via HDMI.  There are two separate issues which I've numbered below.  Thanks in advance for your time. 1. After I've connected the laptop to the TV (it's set to clone the screen) the TV display is fine, but when I close the laptop lid the resolution on the TV changes.  If I happen to be in the middle of playing a video, then when the lid is closed the resolution changes and the video image freezes, although audio keeps playing.   I know there is a similar screen resolution chnanging query on this forum from 2015 that appears to have been solved by this Intel forum link, but this solution does not work for me.  I would love to know if there's a way to disable anything from happening when closing the laptop lid, other than the screen going black, similar to the way you can disable the sleep/power options through the control pannel. 2. In my home setup I don't have my external screen (TV) connected to my laptop all the time, only when I want to watch a show or movie.  So I'm constantly plugging in and removing my HDMI cable.  Lately I'm having trouble with the audio, sometimes when I plug in the cable, the audio does not switch from my laptop to the TV, and if I open Playback Devices I don't even see the TV as an option.  My only workaround at the moment is to restart the computer, at whch time the TV audio is automatical... A:Connecting via HDMI to TV - Screen Resolution and Sound Issu...

1. yes, you can use "Power Options" -> "Choose what closing the lid does" to set it to "Do Nothing" 2. Since your connection to your TV over HDMI was working fine and now it is not, i would make sure your BIOS and drivers (especially graphics) are up to date. if yes and problem persistes, then it is likely a HDMI cable issue, or maybe the hdmi connector on the laptop (a bent pin somewhere??)

I work for HP. All opinions and comments are my own.

HI. I have a Samsung HD monitor and a VGA SuncMaster Samsung monitor. The HD monitor is what I use on my desktop all the time. I am wanting to have dual monitors to use on occasion and use both these at the same time with a mirror image. The graphic card ATI Radeon HD 5450 has a place for my HD and VGA slots. Win 7 recognizes both monitors, BUT my HD monitors resolution is not HD anymore but the VGA monitor is good.

How do I get the settings to be the same as it is on my HD monitor and then display the mirror image to the VGA monitor????

Thanks so much, Tammy

A:ATI Radeon HD 5450 Dual Monitors HDMI & VGA Resolution Problems

Are you sure what you want is to DUPLICATE the contents of both monitors (referred to as "clone mode")? You want to show the identical desktop content on both monitors identically and simultaneously?

Or do you want to EXTEND the Windows desktop to run horizontally across both monitors, so that your Windows desktop is pretty much "double wide"? This allows you to drag windows onto one or the other monitor, and open up independent program windows on either monitor to meet your needs (e.g. to look at two open program windows independently presented on each of your monitors).

If you run the dual-monitor setup in EXTEND mode (with one of the monitors called "primary" monitor for Windows and the other monitor known as the "extend/secondary" monitor) then each monitor can be configured to run at its own native/optimal resolution, independent of what the other is configured at. So if you have a CRT (typically 4:3 or so) it can run at say 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 or 1440x900 or something like that, while your flatscreen/TV (typically 16x9 or 16x10) can run at say 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 or 1680x1050 or something like that. So you'd get FULL use of both monitors at their native/optimal resolutions, and maximum width of the effective combined Windows desktop.

If instead you do really want to run the two monitors in "clone mode", then you only have a Windows desktop that is the smaller of the two monitors. And you will be running the... Read more

Hey everyone, I'm having this problem with Dota 2 and Diablo III. Whenever I connect my approximately 15" laptop to my 24" monitor using an HDMI cable, it forces me to use a lower resolution in order for the game to not be laggy. When I use my laptop by itself, it can support the highest resolution which is like 1324 x 1024 or something like that, in addition to all the highest settings (except shadow), and the game looks perfect. However, when I connect it to my monitor, there are many more resolutions to choose from, the highest being 1924 x 1000 or something, but when I choose this resolution the game LOOKS like it does when I just use my laptop at the 1324 x 1024 (or something close to that) resolution but it plays much much slower and forces me to use a lower resolution such as 1024 x 800 in order for it to be playable at the cost of graphics. I'm just wondering because when I play other games on my laptop that's hooked up to my monitor the games I play look the exact same on the monitor as they do on the laptop and I'm not forced to use a lower resolution, such as HoN. But when I play dota 2 and Diablo 3, the graphics become shittier on my monitor because I am forced to use a lower resolution. I don't need or want a higher resolution supported by my monitor if using it only makes the game laggy and unplayable, I'd rather use the lower resolution of my laptop with the perfect graphics and have it displayed in that exact way onto the monitor, which is what happe... A:Resolution Issue when connecting Laptop to Monitor via HDMI cable

Flangdoogler, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The full make and model of your laptop would help, as then we could see what it has for graphics in it (GPU). Depending on what it is it is likely that you answered your own question,

Or is that I simply cannot have the same graphics displayed on my laptop (15") be copied exactly onto my monitor (24") due to graphics card reasons?

If the graphics card in the laptop isn't up to running it at high settings and resolution, then one or the other has to be lowered (and most time both) to get the game to be playable.

I have the Portege R930 (pt331a-01w001) running window 7. Everything on the laptop works as expected, however when I plug the laptop into a high resolution monitor (2560x1440) via the HDMI port I get blue screen of death.
I can use the HDMI port to connect to my 1080p LCD TV and my work monitor which is a lower resolution and it works ok.

I have tried multiple cables and different monitors of the same resolution.

Can anyone assist?

Simply said: the notebook does not crash using external monitor with lower resolution than 2560x1440. Right?

Found your notebook model.
[Portege R930 PT331A-01W00101 |http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/computers/portege/r930/pt331a-01w00101/specifications]

and it seems that the unit supports the Intel? QM77 Express Chipset and Intel? Graphics Media Accelerator QM77

I would recommend updating the graphic card driver.
On the Toshiba page you can find the Intel display driver v8.15.10.2712 (Win 7)
Also you could test the version downloaded from Intel page.

Hi, I have recently bought ThinkPad T470 (20HES07J00 model). I installed Windows 10 and all the necassary drivers, and almost everything is fine besides two defects:when HDMI cable (version 1.4b) is connected, I do not have a HDMI playback to choose at allwhen I connect external monitor (which is DELL U2515H) with the same HDMI cable, the maximum resolution available is 2048x1152, whereas native resolution for this monitor is 2560x1440Tried reinstalling Intel HD Graphics and Intel Display Audio drivers many times in different ways (uninstalling and having automatic install on restart, installing from device manager, installing with Driver Easy, upgrading to the newest version), but nothing changes. I'm sure the cable is capable of such resolutions as I tried on other laptop and it worked perfectly. I also installed linux on my new T470 and it has no problems with HDMI audio and higer resolution on external monitor. So the problem is around Windows and drivers for it. Anybody knows what else can I do?

Hi folks,I have a 20BT0018US model and it has a native HDMI port & a Mini Display Port The Specifications for this Model state:Your computer supports the following video resolution, if the external monitor also supports that resolution.? Up to 1920 x 1200, with an external display connected to the VGA connector? Up to 2560 x 1600, with an external display connected to the mini DisplayPort connector? Up to 4096 x 2160, with an external display connected to the HDMI connector I have attached two different HDMI cables to three different monitors. Some were native HDMI, others had HDMI to DVI converters on them. All scenarios result in a maximum screen resolution of 1920 x 1080Althought the monitors support a greater screen resolution, I can't seem to get anything higher ?? Has anyone resolved this ?Thanks

I searched the forums and the only posts involved the AMD card and I have an Nvidia card.  I couldn't find any information on the K4000M so I called tech support and they told me it was 2560x1600.  But then I found another forum where they said even the K1000M can do 4k.
I hooked up my 4k TV to the HDMI and used the Nvidia custom resolution to set up 3840x2160 at 30 hz and the display works.  The graphics look great, but the text is super fuzzy.  The TV supports 4K at 60Hz, but I'm not sure if the HDMI port on the back of my M6700 supports 60Hz.
Does the HDMI support 60Hz at 4k?  What about the display port?  Any idea why my text is super fuzzy while the graphics are razor sharp?

A:Precision M6700 Nvidia Quadro K4000M max resolution 4K monitor display port hdmi refresh rate

First, I'm going to refer you to this article from Nvidia discussing Ultra 4k Resolution.  The important statement is this:

The current HDMI 1.4 standard only has bandwidth for 4K at 30hz. HDMI 2.0 will add support for 4K at 60Hz. Details should become clearer in late 2013. There are a few TVs on sale today that support 4K @ 30Hz through HDMI.

Now, according to this review and article about the K4000m card specifications, it states that the card has HDMI 1.4 connections, which means it won't, theoretically, handle Ultra 4k resolution at the 60Hz bandwidth.
I also found this on documentation online about the Precision 6700.

The Precision™ M4700 & M6700 incorporates HDMI version 1.4. Features

So, unfortunately, it doesn't sound like that card will support the higher refresh rate needed.
As for Display port

DisplayPort cables are much simpler to define: There’s just one type! The current version, DisplayPort 1.2, delivers enough bandwidth to carry video resolutions of up to 3840 by 2160 pixels at a refresh rate of 60Hz

So Display Port would be a much better option for you, if available.
I hope this answers your questions.

Hi, I can't seem to get anything higher than 1920x1080 in the list of available resolution options when I connect my Dell U2713HM monitor to my Dell Inspiron 15 laptop. I've run this monitor at 2560x1440 on another laptop over HDMI in the past but that was with Windows 8. The Intel HD Graphics 530 Control Panel doesn't offer any resolutions above 1920x1080 for the external monitor and adding custom resolutions results in the error "the custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". I'm using the same high speed HDMI cable that worked at 2560x1440 with this monitor on my previous laptop. I'm fully up to date on all of the drivers for the laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not sure what else to try. Could this be a Windows 10 issue? Should I try the standard Intel HD Graphics 530 drivers from the Intel website?

Hi,Since the beginning I own this laptop it overheats. As soon as I play a game the CPU temperature will go up and fluctuate around 80-100 degrees celcius. I had to manually turn down the maximum CPU speed to about 60% in energy saving settings to keep it under 70C. This of course has quite some impact on the speed of the laptop. I cannot do the things advertised on the product page without hurting the laptop (assuming 100C is dangerous for a processor). What can I do?

I bought the machine in June and it was silent, but now we're hearing a very low volume hum/buzz (kind of like a mosquito passng by your ear, except 3 octaves lower) more and more frequently. It emanates from the right side - approximately under the Enter Key vicinity and occurs intermittently for maybe 2 or 4 seconds as the machine is actively processing data or updating webpages. It's not correlated with the fan turning on/off. Any ideas?

My new VN7-792G arrived a few days ago and is a very nice machine indeed. The only odd thing is that the Fan seems to be quite loud when is starts going. I had an XPS machine before this so I am used to noisy fans, but this is quite high pitched and sounds almost as if it's imbalanced and reminds me of fans in old machines that begin to whine towards the end of their life. Oddly, the noise decreases if I lift one (or both) corners beside the hinges even slightly. I've also tried it on different surfaces in case it was a vibration issue between the laptop and the table it was on, but no success. Has anyone experienced anything similar, or is this normal?

A:Acer VN7 792G Fan noise

I think I had a very similar issue on VN7 792G, a noise like whistling. I was about to return the product but I think I fixed it. You probably won't like the solution. One of the below solved my fan noise issue (I don't know which) 1- Opened the case and investigate anything that might vibrate due to fan. First I saw that Acer forgot one of the screw of the mainboard so I placed a new one and screwed motherboard firmly no prevent any vibration. Also close to larger fan plastic casing of the (vibrating) fan was touching to the (stationary) case.  I put a soft electric band in between. 2- I put a little machine oil to both fans. This part is tricky, you need to know where to put (check online), also you will need an oil with small sized needle heads. It possible to access fans after removing keyboard. I suggest not turn upside down for sometime if you decide to put oil. best,
