Q: Which RAM can I use for Tecra 8000

does anybody know wihch RAM I need for my Tecra 8000
I need the PA Number

with kind regards

Preferred Solution: Which RAM can I use for Tecra 8000

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Which RAM can I use for Tecra 8000

The Tecra 8000 is an oldie and therefore it needs RAM modules which are not more used in most notebook models.
As far as I know you need the 144-Pin PC100 SODIMM module.

The part number of 128MB is PA3005U

I refurbushed a TECRA 8000. When I start it up the screen displays Sytem Failure and prompts me for a password. Do you know if there is a system default? I can't even enter CMOS to set the boot order to reload the OS. Thanks for your help.

A:TECRA 8000 password

If you can find the jumper on the mobo to reset the bios - try that.

Or else remove the cmos battery for 20 or so minutes & replace.

That should reset the bios & wipe the password.

You shouldn't need drivers, a CDROM is universal.

If you think this is incorrect you can start by telling us what symtons you are experiencing.

I read this forum and searched Google, but nothing helps.

I think the HDD on Tecra 8000 ( Pentium II , 266 Mhz ) is "dead".
I tried to replace it with one from another laptop to see if that would work.

The laptop doesn't recognize it, although I put everything back as the original.
Is there a special way or do I have to change something in the Bios?

A:Tecra 8000 does not recognize new HDD

The BIOS settings don?t need to be changed?

As long as you use the compatible HDD, the BIOS should recognize the HDD automatically without any big troubles?
What HDD did you use? What size, interface, etc?

The Tecra 8000 is a oldie? and I think you could use only the 4GB; 6GB; 9GB; 10GB; 14GB IDE HDDs.

Bigger HDDs would be not recognized by BIOS.

Hi im new to these forums came here looking for help.

Ive had this laptop for a while recently bought some upgrades for it, before the parts arrived i tried to change the bios password to somthing different, well i restarted and it would no longer accept the old password...nore the new one.

Parts came in and for weeks ive been stuck at the password screen.
Purchased "http://cgi.ebay.com/TOSHIBA-Tecra-8000-8100-8200-BIOS-Password-Removal-Key_W0QQitemZ170022133942QQihZ007QQcategoryZ40177QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem"
Was a scam and never came in the mail.

I have been told a program "keydisk.exe" or somthing can bypass the bios password, but we have a problem, my laptop does not have a floppy drive.

So heres where you get to help me , im thinking about purchasing an external floppy drive (usb connected) to try to use that "keydisk.exe".

Will i need to install drivers for the floppy drive? Im running winxp sp2.
Thanks for your time,

Hello, I have a Tecra 8000 laptop 400Mhz, 128MB Ram, Win 2k pro. I was given a 128 MB RAM chip and I installed it and I had no boot up. I took out the chip and restarted the computer and I still don't have boot up also no display. I pushed the reset button and yes, you guessed it, no boot up. Is there any other tricks I can try?

A:Tecra 8000 No Boot after Ram upgrade

Hi there -

By "no boot up", do you mean it hangs, or do you not even have power? If you have power, have you double checked your original RAM to make sure it is seated properly?

Hope that helps.

You can use an external HDD case with USB port for this.
The external HDD case should be for 2.5? HDD?s and with IDE interface. That?s all.

Contact your local computer dealer. I?m sure they will have such cases.

It's running so slow, that I can't use it effectively.
It is a 266 Mhz, with 192 Mb ram.
Bios is 9.30
It was upgraded to Win 98 SE, after I boobooed the registry and the bios was flashed to 9.30.
Since I got it back, it is so slow that I really can't use it.
It takes about 10 minutes to boot up.
I have the factory configuration CD that installs Win 95 and all of the Toshiba drivers and defaults.

What do I need to do, before trying to run the configuration CD?

A:Toshiba Tecra 8000-Too Slow

I think it's time for you to get yourself a new PC, my brother uses a PII 350 with 64mb RAM for his work and I often hear him yelling through his wall that it's too slow or has buggered up/crashed for some reason. Look on Ebay for a good cheap one, it sounds like you use yours for work. ANything with 256mb RAM and a processor of at least 1ghz (for value for money) will be more than capable. It could be that loads of crap has been left behind by WIn95 in the install of 98. Did you format the hard drive before you installed it?

What I want to do is to create an image of the current OS partition with the Ghost 2003 DOS utility loaded onto a CD instead of a floppy.

I have borrowed an old Tecra 8000 from my gal friend. It has Win2k Pro installed.
After d/l'ing a pdf of the manual, It seems that it originally came with Win98 installed.
The manual says to use the "Companion Diskette" to enter DOS.
The only diskette d/l I can find is for Win 98/Win98se.

So, my questions:
1. Will the Win98 diskette work with Win2k?
2. Preferably, how can I open a CD with DOS before the OS starts up?
I can get into startup. But, that doesn't seem to allow me to access the CD Rom drive.

Hopefully it is an easy process that I'm just too blind to see.

A:Tecra 8000 with Win2k - How to start up in DOS?

I don't know that ghost tool exactly, but first of all that disk should work with Win2k too. To access that CD, DOS cd-driver must be on that disk and normally they are, if it is an official ghost tool disk.
Try this and if this won't help, you may make your CD bootable. Check google how to do so. There are several instructions for this procedure.

I screwed up some things in the registry and lost my CD drive.
Prior to that, it was running fine, with win 98.

A tech worked on it and installed Win 98 SE.
Then, it started running very slowly.
He got rid of my IR and Parallel port, to free up some IRQ's, installed my Xircom Ethernet card and got the CD working again. I'm not sure which CD controller it should need but this one has the EIDE controller configured now.

I'm looking for a source for Toshiba Tecra 8000 software and manual that came with the Tecra.
I'm also seeking ideas to speed it up.

I'd just like to have the same speed I had to begin with.

Hi all,

I have recently been asked to look at a friends' Tecra 8000 (PII 233) and to give it a bit of an update.....Not sure why as the most I have ever done is to add a few small components to my home PC!!

My question is is it possible for a broadband connection to be established - I have looked all over the notebook, but cannot find anything that would suggest that it can be done.
Also what other upgrades should (can) we look at.

Sorry for the noobness, but any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Tecra 8000 and broadband connection

Wow? this is really an oldie?
By broadband do you mean the LAN port?

As far as I know the Tecra 8000 was not equipped with LAN port.
It?s really unbelievable but this is a fact?

However, if you would like to use LAN then I recommend buying a PCMCIA LAN card (Cardbus 32-Bit) which would allows you to connect the Tecra 8000 to LAN.

Do you have CD1 and CD2? Be sure you use CD1 at first.

You can enter BIOS and set optical disc drive as first bootable device.

A:Tecra 8000 - CD-ROM defect - fitting new drive ?

Wow, the Tecra 8000 series is really old. Are you still using this notebook?
It feels like the notebook would come from the Stone Age ;)

However, I think the CD/DVD drive supports *IDE* interface but not all drives would be compatible because of the slave/master/cable select settings

It looks like DVD-ROM drive +Toshiba - SD-C2002+ would be compatible.
Not quite sure if you will be able to get such drive because of the device age but probably the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country could provide some compatible optical disk drives?

is there any solution to get the new bios installed on my tecra 8000 without any floppy drive ?

A:BIOS Update for Tecra 8000 without Floppy Disk

I have checked Toshiba BIOS download page on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_bios.jsp and TRAD BIOS version is offered. This old Tecra is maybe 10 years old and at this time Toshiba has offered traditional BIOS update only.

Win versions are offered later with newer Tecra 9000/9100.

Maybe stupid question now but why do you need BIOS update?

My AC Adaptor no longer works on my laptop and I believe there must be a short in it. I have successfully used an AC adaptor for the past two years and it became more and more positional. I attempted to remove the surrounding case and a hundred screws removed later, cannot access that area of my computer. I even had someone who knows more than me make the attempt, but found it futile. He suggested I get a schematic which would tell me how to get to it. I bought the computer used with no manual.......can anyone help.............PLEASE!! Thanks

A:Need Toshiba Tecra 8000 Model PAT800U schematic

In general even with a new laptop you are not going to get a "schematic" from the manufacturer as opening the casing would void the warranty. Have you tried the clips holding the keboard down? There are probably more screws under there.

If anyone can advise on this matter I would be appreciative please

Best wishes

A:Can I use Tecra A10 OS disk to install OS on Tecra M10?

At first I must say that Toshiba recovery image is created for each notebook model separately and it is 100% created to work on specific model. Why?
Every notebook model has different hardware platform and all drivers, tools and utilities for certain model are part of recovery image. These recovery images are also tested.

Generally speaking if both models have identical hardware platform (hardware parts) it can be used.

Dear forum
The above says it all really.

I see the two look similar, but one is smaller. Are these two models different in other ways please.

A:Difference between Tecra A10 and Tecra M10

Of course the both notebooks are different.
There are different Tecra A10 models and there are different Tecra M10 units.

For example:
Tecra *A10-13B* supports an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2,26 GHz CPU and Intel GM45 chipset.

Tecra *A10-1D2* supports an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.80Ghz CPU and Intel GM45 chipset

You can find details about different discontinued notebook models here:
Then you can compare all the hardware parts.

I have a DLT 8000 (40/80 GB) which does some peculiar things.

When I switch it on with a tape in it I get an a light display or "error-message" (up to 8 double-flash lights of all indicators down the left-hand side of the unit after which the unit returns to normal function) however the interesting thing is that this ONLY ever occurs when a tape is write-protected (indeed ALWAYS when the tape is write-protected). The behaviour is identical regardless of whether the tapes are Win2K/NT or Legato backup format and regardless of whether they are being tested independently or attached to a server.

I acquired a second DLT 8000 drive and tested that.

The "error message" occurs on both units only when tapes are write-protected and never when I they are not. There are no other signs of error on either unit and both drives, whilst second-user, were replaced due to upgrade to Super DLT not because of head wear.

Additionally I have performed a small backup sets on tapes that apparently caused the error after allowing them to load write-protected (generating the "error message") and unlocking the write-protect tab. No issues were encountered.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

My HP Workstation 8000 will not boot. I was downloading a torrent, and then opened the .avi file, and it told me to go to torrentm8.com to decrypt the file. I went to the site, didn't download anything, and the computer just froze. (could this be multiple trojans.avi?) I had no option but to turn it off. Now it will not boot, nothing on the monitor, though fans and drives are running. I would have made the HD a slave in another computer to save the data, but no one else seems to have internal SCSI. I have a zd8000  what is the max. ram this will take. Thanks

View Solution.

A:what is the maximum ram for the zd 8000

zd8000 is more like 2009 or so. Here is the Service Manual: Manual The series started out as a Socket 775 Pentium 4 machine but I believe by the end of the run, with a BIOS update you could actually use Core2 Duo processors in it and it could take up to 4 gigs of RAM and run 64 bit Windows. The model numbers ran up into the zd8400 range, if I recall. They are enormous machines which are essentially desktop computers in a laptop case but lots of room in there so easy to disassemble and work on.  There should be a tag on the bottom with the full model number. The Manual does not really describe the later versions very well. It is a pretty rare beast, you do not see very many of them.

A:Inspiron 8000 display dim

Hi mmann

It could be that the cable connecting the LCD to the laptop has gone bad and is opening up in certain positions. You could also try reseating the connector between the system board and the display. It could be making a bad contact. The same with the other connectors in the LCD display itself.

Sounds like a failing hard drive as heat is an issue...you could try installing Speedfan to monitor heat and fan speeds but it may not work on a laptop unless there are bios reading for health it can read. http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
I would also try elevating the back of the Notebook with something to see if it can better breathe and avoid this.

I fdsiked and formatted a hdd for the dell 8000 I then tried to boot to the installation via DVD rom. It will not read the disc. The rom was working just prior to the format.I keep getting message "fixed optical drive not found" OK I have a floppy drive and XP floppies to match the disc I do the 6 floppies and it still cannot read the disc. OK so I am a bit of a geek I clone the drive from another XP computer and it starts to boot and I get the black choice screen no matter which I select I always wind up at a blue screen with white letters saying windows shut down to protect itself. I put the other hdd in and get the same result.Memtest was run for 4 hours on each stick of ram and no problems found. I even swapped locations of the stick and tried booting with a single stick and got the same screen.
Doing a google for help I was told to hit the f12 key but that does nothing also hitting Alt & F key while in bios does nothing either !! Any help?
Oh yeah I tried UBD nothing, hierans also nothing!! Thank in advance!!!

The USB ports on my dell studio xps 8000 keep dying. the light on the mouse stops working, unplug it and plugging it back in usually fixes it. there's also the sound its makes when you unplug from usb then plug in. sometimes I only get the sound which freezes the cursor then it working again. other time mouse is completely dead (no light) passes dell full tests says nothing wrong

Hi I have an Elite 8000 with a E8400 3.0 ghz dual core and was looking to purshare an Xeon X3360 cpu. Now from seaching the web the X3360 is the same chip as the Q9550. Both chips are Quad core with 2.8 ghz that support the lga775 board. My question is would the xeon chip work in my Elite if i updated my bios?

A:HP Elite 8000 CPU Upgrade

The specifications do not show the Xenon processor as a compatible CPU. You would be taking a gamble with your $$ that would very likely result in disappointment.  Xenon CPUs are not Core 2 processors.   Best regards, erico
